Whatever happens, please address the ‘guest’ server identity in any ways which are feasible, and the more the better – in fact do away with the host/guest concept and treat both servers as partners. If we flip a keep, messages should show the server majority who flipped it – if that’s not feasible, then list both servers. Sounds petty but it really isn’t; this would go a fair way towards addressing morale problems in T7-8.

Not to disagree with the idea that server identity is important, but something that’s been interesting to see is that “guest” worlds are tending to have higher ratios of “Yes” votes in favor of keeping world linking. Which I’m definitely seeing as more of a “this improves my day-to-day gameplay”, and not as a “I don’t care about my world identity”.

One problem with showing both world names is that the strings of text can get very long. When/if more than two worlds are linked together, it gets very long. Much too long for the UI.

I do like the idea of showing, for example, “Devona’s Rest captured Durios Gulch”, if Devona’s Rest had more members involved in capturing the objective. Though for the moment this isn’t among our top priorities. Such a change requires programming support, and right now we’re mostly focused on the large task of scoring improvements previously voted on.

On server identity: I can report that this is a major concern on Kaineng. To be specific: I am speaking for my guildmates and friends we play with each weekend (this is about 30+ core WvWers) and that’s one thing we all agree on; we take pride in Kaineng and we are a very tight knit group – and we’d like to see our identity in some fashion since it would give us something to hang our hat on, in a way (right now we don’t even have a home borderland – if we continue to be ‘guests’, we never will.) Identity markers of any kind would simply help us keep our morale up and keep our community intact – which in turn makes us a better partner to whoever we are paired with.

On the Yes votes; as has been said, this poll is a bit of a Catch 22. A Yes vote from a lower tier player might signify that we’re hopeful Linking gets the attention that is promised and it’s preferable to a merge or a reversal, but it’s not necessarily a Huzzah! Linking! vote.

I also know that Kaineng got a really good deal by being paired with TC! We’ve had less of the toxic element and that contributes to our feeling more positive about Linking as a system. But we’d like to grow our community too, and not be just a dumping ground for transfer players down the line. To do this, we need to be visible on the map and I REALLY like Teon’s player server tag idea as well. Anything that can be done to make recruiting, training and TS management easier on linked servers would be much appreciated. We put a lot into this game mode, and we want our server to thrive no matter where we end up.

Im from TC and can fully understand where the Kaineng guys are coming from. Would it be difficult to have 1 week the host as the home bl and the next week the guest i.e Tarnished cost BL then the next Kaineng BL ? As we are linked servers it seems only right that we protect each others homes.

I think TC has been hit unfairly by the dev and the example used is a bad one.

“Notice that Blackgate was not the highest ranking world, and due to transfer bandwagoning Tarnished Coast was rising fast out of T2. Would it have been fair to leave YB, BG and JQ unlinked, but then link TC? Had we done so, we’d just be seeing a different world (or set of worlds) dominating T1 right now.”

Yes TC did get a transfer of several guilds, this was done some weeks before the announcement of server linking. At the same time however several guilds left TC for other T2 servers. TC was NOT “rising fast” out of T2, yes TC was winning matchups but not by 100K+ scores. Infact, the first of the T2 servers to hit T1 was Dragonbrand after the implementation of glicko changes and world linking.

Kaineng have brought their forces admirably to the fight, although mostly during the NA timezone. TC does not have 24/7 map queues on all maps. The scores over the last 3 weeks show very clearly that during OCX and SEA TC has very little coverage compared to other servers.

Would we see a different situation if YB/BG/JQ had been unkinked? Yes for sure. We would have competitive fights in the SEA/OCX timezone whereas at the moment 1 server is able to pull out a 60K+ lead over the weekend. Matchups would be alot closer and therefore alot more fun and exciting.

If bandwagoning is happening it it certainly not happening on TC. TC is not a stacked server.

A much easier solution, once it is dark outside that should then be considered “night”. ANET needs to make a calculation on when “night” starts for each player and then simply block access to wvw when “night” starts so that they can no longer nightcap.

To give an example of this, EU players would be blocked from playing wvw from roughly 8pm central european summer time.

Idk, i recall TC being very reluctant to even using comms during playing.

People who move on from the server have no obligation to keep your comms up for you, especially when you make it clear you don’t appreciate their work. Just sayin’

Which is why we are alot more careful now about the kind of people who control our coms. We are alot better now without those people on the server. Maybe the reluctance of certain members of TC to use coms in the past was also linked to the behaviour of those people that ran it, as it is, this is no longer a problem.

For me and alot of others on TC having open lines of communication is important (even more so after our coms were sabotaged by a group of people). To that extent I offered to open up our coms to the “possible” linked server, to create for them channels where they could run as guilds in private yet still have contact with other commanders via ccoms if needed, or to allow people on that server full access to “open” raids. This would of course mean work for our admins but we were willing to do that so as to ease communication and maybe even allow different people to get to know each other.

I see nothing wrong with this. All that was offered was a simple way to keep the two servers in contact. It was done with respect and I even mentioned that we didnt want to “swallow the other server whole as they also have a community and that we respected that”. We look at this also as an opportunity to run with different guilds and commanders and to learn from them. Its a positive developement that we will all have to adapt to so that we can work things out the best we can.

MMO gaming isnt just playing the game, its also a social environment where different cultures can meet and talk and enjoy each others company, having a communicatin system that can adapt to this is beneficial to the people playing on the same side but also the wider guild wars 2 community.

I agree with the annoyance that we will not know in advance which server we are linked with and so creating this “extended” communication between servers is going to be more complicated (but not impossible).

Plus we have a great ERP section, you aint never heard that quaggan/golem love.

I remembered a few years back a massive thread concerning how unpopular the “buff” that was given to arrowcarts was. Alot of things were written about how this change would affect the game.

I loved reading this. I’m in a guild that plays mostly WvW. Guilds Halls and the upgrades they would bring were one of the big plus points that ANET talked about before HoT release. Tp be honest i think quite a few people were looking forward to some of the things that Guild Hall upgrades would bring along, hoping it would add new variety and spruce things up a bit.

What was given to the WvW community was not fair (there is no other way to say it without using words that would get this post deleted). What we got was a grind fest for mats that cannot be got in anywhere near the quantities needed in our prefered gamemode. Whilst no one really likes to grind, at least the PVE guilds are able to play their prefered mode at the same time as they collect and gather the mats. These guilds dont really need the wvw badges (which can be got quickly enough anyway) and certainly dont need the upgrades for WvW.

So now we have a bunch of WvW guilds running around farming potatoes and flax and other wonderous items (Sand!! omg Dry Top/Silverwastes). All this just because ANET didnt think to adapt the wvw upgrade side of things. It is ridiculous to say the least. Furthermore, once we do get some of those new cool upgrades unlocked you then need to scribe the schematics.

So what do we need for that….yet more materials that can only be found in HoT and some of the rarer ones at that. A good example would be the good old guild catapult. To craft this you need 5 linen supply sacks…that is 125 flax FIBERS!!! errrrr just use commendations guys. (oh and it is scribe level 300…hello the number of resonating slivers you need to get that high).

One final point, Guild Hall upgrades have actually killed off the smaller roaming teams (a part of wvw tactics in general), the ones who would do hit and run moves on keeps and towers. The +5 supply carrying capacity upgrade that is needed by these small groups is at….wait for it….guild level 37!

I don’t think there was alot of communication between the WvW team and the Guild Hall team (Heavy supply bags is a good example here). This is really unfortunate as alot of the smaller WvW guilds are just giving up and going whilst the larger ones are buying harvesting sickles by the bucket load…

Thanks to the OP for your post as it shows that even less wvw orientated people and guilds are disappointed in these upgrades.

Heavy supply bags no longer drop as the only creatures that dropped them (Lvl 80 Centaurs) no longer exist in game (The were in the top right hand corner of the old WvW borderland maps). The only place so far identified to get these bags is via the Kryta track in PvP where you can get between 6-10 for completing the whole track.

Firstly, are there any “new” creatures that now drop these bags?

Secondly, the first time this problem was bought up on these forums was November 9th. I was wondering if someone from ANET could please reply. Are there going to be “new” creatures bought in that will drop these bags or are you going to change the bags needed to something like Heavy loot bags (which are dropped in wvw)?

What a beautifully designed waste of time.

The maps themselves are way to big but thats not the whole problem here. The mechanics are totally messed up; WAY too much pve for what was needed. WAY to complicated inside keeps.

Now who cares? No one cares at all. No one cares for yaks or camps cause the things will upgrade anyway, really bad mechanic that has annoyed more than a few. Probabably worse, WVW is way down the this for repairs and updates.

If ANET had actually got real wvw players into the design from the very start and not a bunch of streamers in beta then maybe they would have understood what was needed. As it is, this is what we got, enjoy it, or learn to do so cause ANET isnt going to change it for at least a few years.

I just thinks its slightly odd that those guilds managed to transfer to YB just before the wvw population changes were announced. Knowing full well that the leaders of this “alliance” have often bragged about the close contacts they have with some anet employees i wonder if they got some information about the changes before the rest of us did. Having also been informed that some employees " fully supported" the idea then it would seem a real possibility that this was the case.

I really don’t get why you are trying to make all skills the same across the 3 different game modes. Why is this a “goal” for you?

In the “old” days there was this great game. It had fun pve and pvp. I think that because it was difficult to match the skills for both they came up with the idea to have the same skill do slightly different things in the diffenet gamemodes…to make it easy it was called “Skillname [PVP”.

That game was GW1. They realised a while ago that it was unrealistic to have the same skill doing exactly the same thing across all gamemodes. It may be an old idea but it was a good one.

I’m Glad to hear that you feel the adopt a dev scheme has worked really well. As a guild we have enjoyed having the company of a Dev (or two) with us and simply playing along and living the guild life in wvw as we do. The experience was equally as positive for us.

I am though rather worried as to what some Devs may have brought back from their experiences. Removing white swords? Obviously this idea didn’t come out of thin air and there must have been some discussion concerning this. I would ask you once again to pull on the experiences that the Devs had (or are still having) in their wvw guilds. Ask these your devs to really ask what guild leaders and guilds think of this idea before implementing it.

You have created the ideal base now to have discussion, the devs have been accepted and are loved and respected in their guilds, trust them to bring you back the right info on game changes.

@Mal…oh how lucky I am that you have no idea who I am or what server I am on. I would hate to have any of the toxicity that you have shown toward people on other forums aimed at myself, I do however speak to some of the server leaders that you mentioned on a daily basis about problems that we see in wvw. Your snub at me really goes to show what your attitude is towards other people and how little you think of ideas that don’t come from one of the server “gods”.

The idea that a GVG play format has been talked about so much. I agree it needs to be done. This however is not going to help WvW and the population imbalance. Creating a mega server for GVG will simply give guilds even less reason to move from an allready overstacked server (but thats what you (Mal) really want anyway so its perfect for you). Yet again you show the same short-sightedness that led us to the imbalanced state we see the game in today.

Yet again, if we really want a fix to this problem then players and leaders need to start doing it themselves. Anet cannot implement any new systems if the “win at all costs” attitude persists among a vocal minority who have deemed that their ideas and ways of thinking are the only ways to go, any new system will eventually become just as “used and abused” by these people. If these people are allowed to persist in that kind of attitude and behaviour then the wvw format will be dead and buried.

@ Mal. Thank you for your sweet reply. I was touched and i almost had a tear in my eye.

As you have admitted, certain servers and you yourself have encouraged guilds to transfer by offering to pay for transfers or even paying them extra gold once they had moved. This isn’t new, another example of this would be the sudden arrival of ZD’s onto a T1 NA server for season 1 and then their sudden departure as soon as season had finished.

Don’t get me wrong..but i find that the idea that all these guilds are joining one server because they want to GVG to be rather far fetched. If they want to GVG don’t they need to be on different servers to fight each other? Oh, no silly me…thats your idea, its to create a GVG format that will allow guilds on the same server to fight against each other, so having them all stacked on one server won’t matter (unless of course you didn’t want to totally kill wvw, but that would just be a small problem and who cares anyways, it would make winning season 4 even easier).

Thats Great for GVG’s…but what about WVW? This thread is about WvW. I will try to be sweet about it. Could you please create another topic for GVG’s? It is obvious that your Idea for GVG is motivated soley by the desire to keep all the guilds currently on your server, you are not thinking about WvW as a format.

As you stated yourself, the transfer mechanics have been used and abused (wait T1 servers are “full” so you can’t transfer…..). My point is that it is the players themselves that have created this situation. The urge to “win at all costs” is extrememly short sighted and verges on paranoia when we see just how far people are willing to go (spies, siege trolls etc etc.).

We cannot expect Anet to come along and clean up the mess that we have made without first trying to clean up our act. If the players don’t do this then any “fixes” that Anet may provide with eventually be “used and abused” in the same manner.

Thanks for your reply Mal, at least you were honest enough to come on official forums to reply. Oh, and please remember, not one of the “server” leaders that you spoke to actually believes anything you say concerning balancing in T1 NA. You can write all you want but your actions past and present speak far louder than any words.

I do believe that the simplest and most satisfactory solution to this problem has actually been solved by Anet without thinking about it.

The adopt a dev scheme has worked to put anet devs on almost every server, playing in wvw guilds that have welcomed them with open arms. These devs have seen for themselves exactly what happens with siege trolls.

I really had to laugh when i saw that certain “server leaders” had posted on these forums with an apparantly logical explanation for the population imbalance that we see today in wvw.

It’s about time some of these leaders stopped blaming anet and admitted that they themselves are part of the problem. All that “chest thumping” and pushing “for the win”, inviting guilds, paying for guilds to transfer has in the end killed wvw as a competitive environment. Just read in these forums what one “server leader” really thinks and we can understand how polluted the atmosphere has really become because of this kind of leadership.

This is an example of one thread. I would advise ANET to be very careful taking any advice from any server leaders who are capable of writing this kind of toxic material. These are in fact the kind of people who are killing the game.

The current state of WVW and population imbalance is the fault of the players themselves. To watch T2 NA guilds transfer to T1 servers just before season 3 started really made one realise that season 3 was dead. Everyone knew before it even started who would win…

As to what to do about it……sry but nothing in the posts above posts will change anything. Its for the players themselves to start to act in a more responsible manner..server leaders that means you.

Siege Troll Discussion

Firstly, thanks for responding to this problem is such a positive manner.

I really think that the problem is being blown out of proportion. Not in the effects that siege trolling can have on a server but by the numbers of people actually involved. On my server we have 2 identified siege trolls who operate at different times of the day. Thats it. If every server had the same amount thats what 60 people?

Do we really need a new, comlicated system brought into place to deal with these 60 people (across all servers)? Any changes bring with them the risk of creating new (maybe even worse) situations, or new unseen ways to troll.

What really needs to be sorted out is the reporting system. I can understand that the present system is time consuming for the GM’s involved. What needs to be done is for you to specify what exaclty you feel siege trolling is and set up a means for the wvw community to be able to report these people to you in a way that simplfies the processus.

You say you do not want the “banhammer” to fall. Why? Make it very clear, set up the rules, give people the correct tools to report (this could be via a video or screenshots) and then deal with them by simply banning them from wvw. Its your responsibilty to set this up so that your game can be played by us in the way you want.

There is no need to create a brand new system to deal with a very small minority of people who disturb the game for the vaste majority. Any new system would affect the whole player base, this is not needed.

I had a great idea of finally using that season 1 chest key and making a video of it for you, that would have been great showing the wonderful rewards that you can get from wvw right guys?

Unfortunatly i still havent got the chest yet….

After that i thought i’d make a great video of me getting super loot from those rank up chests, 30 chests later i’d got 60 greens so i ditched that idea and decided to go take a couple of towers.

Had a small problem with that video too, as my small havoc group got zerged rather badly the first time and then 1 person on an AC killed our 3 rams the 2nd time…you might have to wait for a vid on the tower taking.

Finally i went into EOTM just to try and get a vid from this great new wvw area. My group started taking a tower but was promptly told not to disturb the “karma” train…vid failed. I also popped my commander tag just to show all the really useful things you can do with it….then detagged..vid lasted 2 seconds…is that any use?

These are sad days indeed for the environment of Tyria. Not a single tree reamins standing in Orr, this region, allready desolate and forboding, has been turned into a lifeless area. Hordes of crazed tyrians, eyes glazed over, logging axes in hands are charging all over the place mumbling in a mystical mantra “Find trees, low drop date, Find trees, low drop rate”.

The Risen stare confused as no one is attacking them, they have even started to shout “CHOP WOOD” instead of “DEAD GOOD!” I even saw a rather fat bottomed Norn agress a poor sylvari shouting “Drop me some cluster, drop em now!”. Something really needs to be done about this.

I tried to talk to the Pale tree, unfortunatly she said she didnt have the time as she is on her 46,763rd visit for the latest living story update, she wandered off and i heard her mumble " GG Anet, my brothers and sisters are being massacred and you got me stuck here doing living story. (On a side note, the pale tree looked even paler and her leaves were wilting, you may need to give her some fertiliser).

Please anet do something to end this Madness, before all of tyria ends up like this :

Ok i see your arguments. Simply, if i wanted to do pve, i would go into one of the many dungeons, pve maps or living story. Maybe go kill a dragon or even do a JP. Thats fine, but why put pve into a different game mode?

When i play wvw i expect to fight other players (in large or small groups). I dont expect to be taking on a giant wurm which i must kill to get some buff or whatever. Its not what i play wvw for.

Keep pve in the pve area of the game and develop the wvw idea to encompass more fights with actual players.

There is a whole game format in GW2 dedicated to those fans of pve, it gets regular updates, new bosses, new zones. This format should be kept separate from the wvw format.

WvW doesnt need unique bosses like those seen in EOTM. Any developement on this is time wasted. I’ve seen countless blobs run right past the wurm in the bl’s or the grub in EB. No one goes around killing skritt or centaurs. The pve currently Inside wvw is ignored because there is enough pve in this game to fulfill anyone’s need for it. WvW players dont want to do pve, thats why they are playing wvw.

By all means, buff up the guards, make lords harder to kill (but please if you are gonna do this make it so that lords cannot be bannered, only hard ressed). But dont start putting in huge trolls or the such like that will start roaming around an area. They will most likely be ignored like all the other current pve elements are.

Just a side note…could we also stop putting in bits and pièces of the living story too?

SOR guilds are having fun in EOTM, thats what is happening. After months of the same match-up its simply nice to have some guilds to fight. JQ/BG can still play the ppt game, if they want to run around in 80 man blobs doing pvd and killing the few hapless roamers they come across then nothing is stopping them.

I actually feel sorry for the poor scouts on those servers who must pass hours in keeps, with only the workers running around upgrading. “tagging” the 25 arrowcats, 6 trebs, 4 catas and the occasional ballista (not to mention the 4/5 omégas). Waiting for the eventual force of 15 to come along so they can call in “the blob” to dive it off….

Yeah its true SOR doesnt play the ppt game, we have a less “civil servant” attitude to how we play. I dont think anyone cares if we drop to T2 or even T3. Maybe, when the drop from T1 happens, the guilds who are currently “farming” bags in EOTM will return to wvw, or maybe not.

Yeah transfered from EU to NA and didnt get a chest, although if i were to be real honest, looking at the rewards contained in the chest i could quite easily pass up on it.

Just remove the doors and have some good old players vs players fighting it out, remove the walls aswell for that matter…

lol, you really think, after all the recent “improvements” in wvw that Anet and Mr Devon Carter are trying to promote players fighting other players in wvw? Of course there was no increase in wxp gained from killing other players, the devs dont want us doing that. They want us all sat on siege or hitting doors, not going out and fighting each other in open combat. I’m actually surprised we still get some wxp from killing players.
