Commanders that Don't command.

I dont type anything anymore, PUG’s either dont care or dont pay attention anyway. I only use our VoIP, if they decide to join, then they know whats going on, if not, well thats why their PUG’s :/…

Im at a point now where if im not commanding my guildies and im on a map with no other commander, I just solo supply camps with it on, in the hopes that people will come to the reality that they should automatically rally on me, but 99% of PUG’s dont anyway.

IMO a Commander shouldnt have to ask people to rally, it should be expected, but its no loss to me, I can only do so much, people shouldnt be allowed to use the “Im a PUG I didnt know any better” excuse.

Not all people want to be a part of the zerg and do what the commander says. There are lots of solo/small group roamers that contribute to your server, sometimes more than that 20+ zerg capping empty tower.

Just saying commanders shouldn’t judge other players because they don’t want to play the way commander wants them to. If they want to follow you, they will follow you.

One immobilize, one cripple, one chill on a pet would negate all of that, and they would be sitting without any damage for a long time. Play smarter, and even f the pets had a better chance of hitting, you would not get hit like this, period.

They shouldn’t keep the Ranger as an underpowered class because people can’t learn in this game.

Watch some of Xsorus videos on either his Ranger, or his Thief, he rarely gets hit by a pet. I can’t remember the last time a pet has hit me more than a couple times, before I’ve downed the Ranger.

The Ranger can not cure his pet, therefore they suffer the full duration of CC.

I said “At the moment pets are very easily avoided”. Meaning that I know you can avoid a lot of the pet’s damage by kiting it, without cripple. I do it all the time and I rarely lose to rangers on any of my characters.
Rangers and pets also have some tools to cripple/chill targets and help pets do their thing, you know.

If you think pets can’t do any damage in PvP now or after the patch, why do you care about it’s damage?

Rangers are good at disengaging if

  • Not fighting an ele, warrior, thief, or other ranger
  • Not crippled/chilled/immobilized … these will ruin your lightning reflexes and swoop

Not all warriors in WvW are using sword/x + GS, and you really shouldn’t have much trouble with them anyways. About other rangers… It’s like saying ele isn’t good at disengaging because they cant outrun an ele.

You know that conditions affect other professions too, right? Cripple/chill/immobilize are there for range control, and we have access to them too. I use Melandru runes and -condi duration food in WvW myself, and I dont worry about conditions at all. Also means that I don’t have to carry any condi removals.

I do think lightning reflexes should clear immobilize tho, considering the long cooldown on it.

Signet of the Wild is on a 2 minute cooldown. Sick’em is on a 1 minute cooldown. THose are very large windows in which that spec is weak … and it can’t run away like a GC Thief who just failed their burst.

As long as your pet is doing damage, BM spec is pretty far from weak.
Thing is that you could have insane burst in demand, and still have bunker ehp.
Also rangers are pretty good at disengaging too if you got GS.

Why not. It is very easy to counter for human players and it might make rangers more viable in dungeons.

Because pets critting close to 10k while ranger having around 40k ehp feels OP.

10k crits wont occur on any defensively specced class. If you are playing glasscannon and get hit by the pet then it is pretty much your own fault. What I give you is that the Jaguar is really somewaht the only pet that makes some hard to counter attacks connect due to the stealth that doesn’t break when attacking. I have a feeling that wont stay forever though, I am nearly 100% sure they will change that very soon and it wasn’t intended like that. However for all the other pets it is really your own fault if you get hit while running a glasscannon spec.

At the moment pets are very easily avoided, yes. But like I said before, if pets will be more reliable in PvP and you cant outrun em so easily, I think the damage would be too high with Sic ’em and Signet of the Wild etc.

@Noss:
I really don’t think more reliable pet damage would require our pets to have to do reduced damage. They are nowhere near the realm of other classes’ dps.

I also disagree about Sic’em.

Sick ’Em - Your pet runs faster and does more damage (40% more). 60s cd and 10s duration.

Assassin’s Signet - Passive: Grants increased power. Active: Deal 15% more damage on your next five attacks. 45s cd and 30s duration (or 5 attacks).

Now the assassin’s increases the thief’s damage by less, but the thief already does quite a bit more damage than our pet does. The signet also has passive bonuses and can be used more often (3 times for every 2 Sick’Em)

It’s not really Sic ’em alone(although I think 40% is pretty kitten strong alone), but when you add it to other damage boosts to pets, like signet of the wild.

Really the last thing I want is everyone to play a tanky beastmaster and just watch it’s pet to shred things in seconds. Kinda like beastmaster hunters in WoW at one time.

Honestly, I’m with those who have been saying that once our pet is reliable we may swing towards being somewhat OP. My pets hit hard, even when I have 0 in beastmastery. If they hit reliably, now my opponents need to devote damage to them and that is damage not on me. That has ramifications when you have good mobility and heals.

I’ve been thinking about this too. I wouldn’t mind if pet damage was to be reduced a bit, as long as they could actually apply it to moving targets reliably. Same goes to F2 abilities.

Sic ’em definitely needs to be tuned down if we really get a buff/fix to pets. Maybe drop the damage bonus to 15-20% and add a charge + stun or something to it.

I read every post! If someone writes up a lengthy reply, I make sure to read it all because you took the time to type it. I played an inquisitor so I haven’t read your guides.

I’ll watch the podcasts! I couldn’t find anything too useful on YouTube anyway, someone here was dead on- you only see PvP when the opponents are outnumbered or preoccupied. How do most people play their necros? I’m going to play around like first suggested to find what I like, but I enjoy reading other builds so that I may add my own little twists to it. Sort of how I do with LoL.

I’ve played my necro as conditionmancer most of the times. Spent lots of gold and karma for power gear, but I just couldn’t make the power or DS builds work for me as well as condition builds. And it was the manipulation of conditions that made me roll necro in the first place. :P
For builds I usually run 0/30/20/20/0, 0/30/10/30/0, 0/30/10/20/10, 0/30/10/15/15 or something like that, you get the idea. 30 in curses is kinda mandatory for the improved condition duration for scepter and rest is pretty much what you like. For runes I have 2x Lyssa and 4x Lich atm.

I can warmly recommend leveling your necro in WvW. I leveled mine from around 30 to 75 in WvW and had a blast. Trait 10 in Death Magic for larger marks and your bags get full really fast. You’ll be rolling in badges and gold once you hit 80.

New player, what's wrong with Necro?

Heya,
I started GW2 with mesmer and got an engineer, ranger and condition necro at 80 too. I mostly play WvW roaming around solo, sometimes grouping up with small gangs or zergs.

About mesmers.
They’re insanely good and versatile in WvW once you figure out how to play with clones. I’d easily rate them up there with thieves and D/D ellies to be the best classes for WvW. Lots of stealthing skills, blink, leaps, time warp, portal, confusion, high burst on demand etc. Mesmers however can have lots of trouble with hard hitting classes that can read you and see past the clones(or simply AOE them). Most of the times one of your numerous escaping skills saves your skin tho. I die very rarely in WvW on my mesmer, and I often take 1v2 to 1v5 fights, depending on situation and opponents.
It’s worth noting that mesmers dont have access to reliable movement speed bonuses without runes.

About (condition)necromancers.
Compared to mesmers, necro’s playstyle is almost the opposite. Where mesmers survive by hiding behind clones, stealthing, blinking and generally confusing opponents, necros survive by kiting, controlling their opponents via conditions and facetanking with high(ish) EHP. Necros have only 2 “blinks”, both with high cooldown and both pretty bad compared to other classes.
Where things get intresting is outnumbered fights. Necros are probably the worst stompers in game, so even if you manage to get one bad guy down, it’s really hard to pin without getting yourself killed due no access to invulnerability/stability.
Because you lack blinks/stealth/leaps your chances of running from fights are pretty slim, which means you’ll likely die if enemy zerg sees you.
It’s in group fights where necromancers really shine. Traited marks are big and powerful, wells are good for both offense and defense, epidemic is plain awesome and our elite, plague is superb with blinding pulses for diving into enemy groups and taking their rage while your buddies can push forward.

Biggest cons for necros are in my opinion:
-We are the only(?) class that doesn’t have access to vigor or endurance traits. Avoiding damage plays a big part in GW2, and sadly we are really bad at it. I’ve heard this was justified by giving us bigger hp pool and death shroud. I’d trade that ~3k extra hp compared to mesmer’s anytime for +50% endurance regen trait.
-Death Shroud. Power based builds may find this mechanic good, but as conditionmancer I don’t like this. Skills are very meh and I usually use this only for the fear, teleport rarely, and the #4 for a bit of extra survivability. Sure it’s nice that life force protects me from damage, but I wont be really doing anything better while in it. For a special ability DS is pretty weak unless you trait for it.
-Long cooldowns on our defensive utilities.
-Bad mobility in combat.

Necromancers are really fun and you get more satisfaction when you succeed with it compared to mesmer, simply because mesmers are so much better overall.
Necros aren’t really as bad as these forums(and probably this post) make it look, we have lots of issues but the class is far from being broken. You should totally roll one!
