Looks really fun for sPvP. In WvW you could have quite a bit of trouble with people kiting you.

edit: With rifle, and -5 from inventions and tools for sitting duck, this might be pretty fun for WvW too. :P

Shatter build is still viable. I usually run 20/20/0/0/30, and it does the job pretty well.

For mesmers(and for many other classes), conditions seem to be the name of the game nowdays. It’s pretty rare to see old school shatter mesmers anymore.

1. Class balance(and perplexity runes compared to other runes, kinda goes to this area)
2. Almost impossible to achieve WvW -titles
3. Alternative Bloodlust effects

Maybe something happened to your face,(you haven’t shaved, lost weight…) and you can’t roll your face over the keyboard as efficiently?

I’ll throw my opinion here too.

What I like:
-As engineer I like the radius increase on some bombs and mines and Toss Elixir S losing it’s RNG.
-New damage floaters are pretty cool.
-Bloodlust buff being tuned down.(I want the stat buff gone completely, but this is a good start)

What I don’t like:
-It’s not a frikin’ balance patch when the profession changes are mostly tooltip/bug fixes, instead of tweaking skills and traits!

Overall, I’m not disappointed about what we got, but what we didn’t get. After seeing the preview my expectations were pretty low, but I was still disappointed.
It feels like forever since we got the last balance patch, and this one is a joke compared to that. A cruel joke.

I don’t know if the devs think balance is fine atm, are they afraid to make changes, or they simply don’t know what do.
Oh, and speaking of not knowing what to do. Mesmer’s scepter. I think Karl or the other dude actually said in yesterday’s stream that they don’t really know what to do with it. Scepter #2 and #3 are both really good skills, both being the better ones on mesmer’s weapons, while scepter autoattack actually is lacking. So instead of coming up with some condition based changes to S#1, they improved S #2 and #3. And in a very cheap way(CD reduction).

Anyways, I don’t consider this a balance patch at all. More like quality of life/bug fix patch.

Yep, pretty much what I was waiting for. All the “big stuff” was shown on the stream, and rest was mostly fixes.

Like Zumy said, Perplexity runes don’t promote skilled play. You simply don’t have to be skilled to get interrupts in PvP. Everyone is doing something in PvP all the time.

Also it feels like people are forgetting that these are runes. They simply hold too much weight for that.
Just look up other runes. If you have even a slight sense of balance, you should see how over the top these runes are.

I agree old rune sets could use some love. But bringing perplexity runes closer to other runes is a lot safer, than buffing other rune sets to their level and introducing a balance disaster.
Build diversity is a good thing, but it shouldn’t come with the cost of balance.

Condi cleanses on healing turret, medkit4 and eg5, stunbreakers on slickshoes, eg toolbelt. But no stability.

Condi cleanse on healing turret is pretty neat. Med kit #4 is IMO pretty poor. And EG #5 is OK…ish. Kinda slow to use, but if you have projectile finishers it’s cool. With the current condi pressure and the way condies are cleansed, I don’t think that’s good enough. More options to cleanse would definitely be welcome.

For stunbreakers EG toolbelt is good, but that’s pretty much it. I don’t really see why anyone would use a precious utility slot for Slick Shoes in it’s current state, unless you’re running some super mobile build.

RoS should count themselves lucky this week, neither Vabbi or WSR have a fair fight, other than each other of course. RoS have it easy, boring but easy, we have it hard, extremely hard. Neither Vabbi or WSR can pull numbers this week and thats why your bored.

It’s a PvE / sPvP week here soo… its not a total loss :P

I just wanna point out that one-sided matchups aren’t fun for the winning side either, so you shouldn’t say RoS is lucky.
I kinda understand why you’d think that, since you’re in Vabbi and you can’t outnumber any other server.

On totally silly matchups I personally prefer to be on the outnumbered side. More fights.

Viz definitely has some really good players. I’ve lost quite a few fair(well, still 100-150 stat difference) fights.
But it’s just so frustrating to fight when there’s +1 Viz approximately every 15 secs. Was just roaming in completely green Vizunah BL, and still 1v1’s/1v2’s quickly turned into 1v5. What the hell do all those people even do there?

I’m prolly gonna transfer back to RoS, and I though this would be good time to do that since GH’s current matchup is just terrible. But looks like this isn’t any better.

How’s the matchup roaming-wise?

I hope Zumy is right, because atm solo roaming is just horrible.

BTW, what’s up with Kodash and D/P thieves?

Decent roaming in this matchup now we’re clear of reset. Such a nice change from Piken/Abaddon and on par with Kodash/AG for fun.

Except that Kodash roamers were far better than FSP and UWs (overall), and that AG thieves were all D/P copycats

From roamer’s perspective Kodash was great for a german server. But IMO Underworld and AG are most fun to fight against. Lots of good solo roamers.

Also keep in mind that clones generally don’t do any damage, so if a bunch of clones are attacking you it’s no reason to panic. Phantasms will do the damage, but they’re noticeable. The mesmer may have the trait where the clones and phantasms will do bleeds on crits though, so watch out for that.

Most mesmers got the “illusions bleed on crits” -trait.
2-3 staff clones actually do pretty nasty damage, because staff clones cast Winds of Chaos(7s bleed, 1s burn or 5s vulnerability on each hit) and put extra 5sec bleed on each crit. Not to mention the bounces give might and fury to the mesmer.

Good mesmers are really tough for anyone to beat 1on1.

Mesmers rely on cooldowns a lot, so just try to keep pressure and make him burn utilities. Without cooldowns they are really crippled.
Against shatter mesmers use your shield #5/toolkit #4 if you get immobilized, because they’re going for shatter+Blurred Frenzy when that happens. Shield #5 also interrupts the BF.
Against condi mesmers you really need to pay attention to what conditions are on you, and try to cleanse torment, confusion from scepter #3 and big bleed stacks. If you see the mesmer is blocking, do not attack. You gonna get 5 stacks of torment if you do.

Since you got EG and rocket boots, you have few ways to get distance if the pressure gets too hot. Mesmers are really bad at chasing people.

It’s really tough and intense fight, but still doable. Odd thing is that when I play my mesmer, I have trouble with good condi engineers. And when I’m on my engi, I have trouble with good mesmers.

Is that Gunnars Hold excuse right now against Piken? if you knew anything about RoF you’d know we kept all 3 waypoints on our map last week against Fort Ranik dova/EO 80-100 man blob for 3-4 nights straight no need to be so bitter towards us just because we don’t need to go where the bandwagon goes we have fun fights on RoF, my guild and im pretty sure the likes of TaG and AZZL etc couldn’t care less about the PPT all this matchup does for us is allow us to train new Pugs and show them why we love WvW which every server should do rather than just blob up 1 server with as many guilds as possible :P

P.S. We don’t have any excuses(or atleast I don’t), other than we’re up against rank 3 server. I’m still having fun though.

But, I don’t think RoS will ever perform poorly relative to it’s numbers, because of the strong WvW community. Reason I transfered was because my guild and many other guilds I enjoyed roaming with left. And it was pretty inevitable that RoS will drop to the “not so intresting” -tiers(WSR, AS, BT).
So, it had nothing to do with Surmia’s poor performance, because there was no such thing!

Lately I’ve been tempted to go back to RoS, because GH is climbing to the more blobby matchups… but I guess it’s still better than fighting servers like AS.

Since I’m kinda new to GH, from my perspective this is a good matchup to see the heart of Gunnar’s Hold. Obviously we can’t match the numbers PS and AM field, but we have to adapt to the situation and do our best.

We have been in situation’s like this before and there will be the same faces and Guild’s that will be mixing it up and will never give up the fight, I count myself and my Guild amongst that number. It’s one week of pain but the lesson’s learnt are well worth the bruises.
We are a good solid server with a great community, fighting Abbadon and Piken will stand us in good stead.

This is exactly the kind of spirit I’m hoping.

It’s worth it if you like WvW.
I leveled my thief from lvl 2 to 60ish in WvW, and I didn’t get flamed even once. But thieves have awesome survivability from the start, so I wasn’t rallying anyone in fights.

I’d advice to build your character for max support when leveling in WvW. Unless you’re roaming alone or in very small groups.

These two traits are pretty much a mandatory for many of us. Most engineer builds rely on very active defense, and dodges and speed are big part of that.
20 trait points is however a pretty big deal when you’re making new builds, and merging these would improve build diversity(even more). And looking at the state of our traits, I don’t think extra 10 points would be too dangerous balance-wise.

Near permanent swiftness and vigor in combat sure is amazing. But considering our profession, I’m not sure if 20 points is too much for it, or 10 points is too cheap.

Just an idea I wanna throw out there and get other’s opinions for it. So, do you think merging these two traits would be too much?
