I’d love it, but Overwatch tried and failed miserably. There was a guy who was the best widowmaker out there and he had to contact Blizzard support because he was sitting in que for hours and wanted to know why.
Turns out thousands of people blocked him because they were afraid of him. Eventually the system got a complete 180, and was changed to “prefer this player” which increases the chance of getting paired again.
If it didn’t work with Overwatch at its prime with millions of active players, it definitely won’t work in GW2.
Baseless? My good dude, people are screenshotting evidence of seriously botched & super lopsided match making
Never said matchmaking was perfect, only commented on how “anet trying to keep us from seeing the rating of people we add now!” was not true, or at least not intentional.
If the delay itself is intentional it’s probably to prevent bullying before the match even starts.
I find your crazy baseless conspiracy theories mildly amusing but it can take hours between adding someone and that person showing up on the friends tab of the ladder. So just be patient?
Could you maybe update them anyways btw?
Like give them meta builds and update them everytime you update the build emplates? Right now there is not a big difference to the golems.
Might as well get rid of the triple dodge they have?
One npc dodged 3 times in a row and a fourth time 2 secs later. And what’s with the block when they dodge?
As we talk about templates could you pleaseeee give us the ability to save our own builds like why not is that really that much work? qqIt could be even worse like that. Like, giving thief a D/P PI build, the NPC will probably just spam heartseeker on you or drop a blinding powder and stand still doing nothing. Or would the engi swap to elixir gun to heal/cleanse, then swap off? No. It’d sit in the kit and spam its autoattack until one of you dies (if even switches to kits at some point).
They can’t properly do the combos (can’t even weapon swap I think?) so many of the builds just wouldn’t do kitten.
They are fine the way they are because at least we can try stuff against damage.
Nobody’s going to test any real things against them anyway, they are just there so we get to bang on something in que.
Not worth spending dev time at. Maybe bump their HP up, that’s all.
I completely disagree. The npcs provide little to no real help. They are just justified punching bags. Unless you are new to the game they won’t pressure you. I’d rather they run realistic builds one can expect to see in ranked because the current NPCs are completely different than what anyone actually plays. I’d rather we have overpowered NPCs that force players to get better than useless punching bags.
How would a druid NPC be even remotely useful if it doesn’t sync pet swapping with We heal as One for boon stacking, doesn’t combo staff #3 and 5, instead just camps staff auto using random skills.
NPCs don’t have weapon swap to begin with. I think Rev legend doesn’t even use the right side of the bar letalone switch legends or manage its energy.
Giving better builds to the training NPCs is a nice idea, but if they’d only use 1/4th of the build AND incorrectly, then how’s that any better?
Could you maybe update them anyways btw?

Another dreadful foefire story in platinum.
It was 410-346 in favor of my team, we have 3 cap, 2 people from enemy go lord. I tell my team to just stay and hold the 3cap and we’ll win. It’s no use. 3 of them go back to defend.
My team starts losing the map because I’m the only one trying to defend 3 points vs 3 enemies while our 5th can’t decide what to do and wanders aimlessly in the middle of nowhere.
They somehow kill our lord.
Still not enough score.
Then they kill our mes who went back to “defend”. +5 score, they win.
Told the mes it was a bad idea and should’ve let them have our lord.
He replies “XD”.
Haven’t played since then. Unenjoyable.
Why?
- First and foremost, VARIETY. It’s been 5 years of nothing but conquest for competitive play. It’s so mind-numbingly boring at this point words cannot describe it. ATs are conquest, ranked is conquest, unranked and hotjoin are mostly conquest too. Don’t want another queue? Then turn the (soon failing) ATs into 2v2.
- Better for the smaller size of the community and could stimulate growth.
- The tournament’d take much less time, so the current rewards could be alright.
- There’s a demand. Adding 2v2s only to exile it immediately to the wastelands called hotjoin is a bad joke. Why even spend dev time on it if nobody cares? Surely the devs don’t think anyone gives a kitten about hotjoin, but if they do, god save us.
At the very least, do one month of conquest ATs then one month of 2v2 ATs and see which one is more popular.
You posted on the GW2 forum but it sounds like you’re talking about having the sword in GW1? Or you think having the sword in GW1 somehow earns it for you in GW2? Because it doesn’t.
The sword in GW1 is a random drop from a bunch of different mobs from various campaigns. In GW2, it’s a Hall of Monuments reward for GW1 achievements (not realted to having the sword at all in GW1).
kitten. They had it much worse in GW1 with cross-profession builds and no skill-slot locking (could use any amount of healing skilsl or none at all, etc) and they managed to do a better job.
Do you know why? They let the community find the broken stuff and they hotfixed many of the problems in days or weeks. Now compare it to the no hotfix, no communication, 1 real patch per year approach they have now.
GW2 buildcrafting is very limited in comparison, but probably 1 month after shipping the elite specs they were already busy working on the next generation of elite specs, so no time to shake things up or root out problems. They are aiming for 1 build which overshadows all others for a profession, and then leave it like that so nothing really changes and they don’t have to care, becasue they already sold it to us.

So now that you are talking, Gaile, I have a question:
Does ANET punish accounts by downrating them during the season so they get worse games? Was my account so punished? Is that why I got 68 straight losses?
I got inspired by this post. Id give 1k gold to see someone lose 68 games in a row and be able to prove it. I dont think itd be possible even if you tried.
It’s actually not that inconceivable. There has to be at any given point, a “worst player in the queue” that player presumably will be losing nearly all their matches, and if for whatever reason that player is really determined and does not give up, they could end up with a loss streak with no upper bounds.
It is. Try doing it yourself. The game forces you to win games.
Incorrect. Although I will admit that this was during one of the early “competitive” seasons.
As a secondary question: I’d like to know if the game is still deliberately setting up a winning side.
My question is; Was it simply the system designed to give win streaks? Or, (as I was told, ) was my account deliberately downrated to be consistently on the losing side?
If my account was punished.. that is a singulary ineffective way to do it. When a player is kittened, make sure they lose more. That way they’’ll feel better and be less anti social. Oh and don’t tell them why they are losing.
else if my account was not being punished, why was the system set up that harshly biased and is it still biased?
If the bias is still in the system it could be an explanation for the current match quality. Was that code properly returned to making 50/50 matches?
I once tried to throw all my placements to experience the bronze life, couldn’t do it. Won 2-3 of the 10. One game I was rushing lord at start with a zerker staff ele and we ended up 3capping them because 3 of them started chasing after me to their lord.
Had to go afk because clearly, throwing the game had the opposite effect, but we had such a momentum the enemy couldn’t win in a 4v5.
And you say you managed to lose 60+ because Anet has nothing better to do than to mess with your account and make you lose? I don’t believe it, but if it’s true maybe you should make a guide about it.
That’s a very mild punishment, it should’ve been a 3-6 month account ban for any serious case.
As our investigation continues, further action may be taken should we feel it appropriate.
There’s definitely the possibility of a harsher punishment following as they get a better insight on the topic.
Either that or this was their way to give them the “final warning” before something really bad happens.
Oh please, if they wanted to ban them they could’ve already. They just don’t have the balls to do it.
But if someone was found using an exploit granting a single gem I bet it’d be a perma ban.
That’s a very mild punishment, it should’ve been a 3-6 month account ban for any serious case.
Victory screens are actually quite common in PvP games. Aside from being able to finish fights, which isn’t really a big deal imo, I can’t see why such a feature would be fine in other games, but not in GW2… Could it just be that the GW2 community is more toxic than the communities in other games?
Other games don’t try to humiliate the losing side by rubbing in the loss while having the winning team dance over your dead bodies. At least I have yet to see one where it’s a thing.
Forsty is dumb and forgot to mention, but this was soloq only.
Read the title of the thread?
It may be faster for you to type /stuck and then not move. After 30 seconds, it should teleport you back to your spawn. If you move or do any other activity, it will cancel the /stuck command and you won’t be able to attempt it again for 2 minutes.
Once it moves you back to spawn, you can’t use the command again for 10 minutes.
That’s nice and all, but can we expect a fix anytime soon? I think it’s only caused by revenant downed state knockback, never got stuck vs longbow ranger yet they both work the same way, right? It shouldn’t be too hard to fix it based on that but I’m no expert.
30 seconds timeout for no reason can be enough to throw a game, and that’s only that person reacts instantly. If nobody on the team knows about this it can be minutes. If that happens at least once a day in a ranked season that’s extremely frustrating.
PvP is about competition and feeling like you did better than another team. I’m sorry that some of you are so sensitive that you get injured over a few people dancing on a pedestal but come on now. Most people leave the match nearly instantly anyway, just as it’s always been and there’s nothing stopping you from doing the same. It’s a fun little addition to emote and dance or set off fireworks sometimes if you win.
The entire change is about promoting BM. I used to enjoy close matches like 500-490 even when the enemy won, but now they dance on your corpses spamming GGEZ and you can’t even finish that last fight as “what could’ve been”, no, drop everything and watch others BM you because of that 10 points.
PvP is about competition, yes, but it could be a healthy competition too not this toxic kitten. Worst part is, dev time went into making this.
How do you know they are in placement?
I guess they add him as a friend and check his rating later. If that player cannot be found on the list then he is still doing placements.
What happened?
It’s not the build that’s good, but the players you face are bad.
Or rather, the only players who do care are PvE casuals who’ll never get one. Stop rewarding “endgame” PvP content by slapping some random llamas to it, I’d rather take 1 copper at least that has some value.
It’s lazy and demotivating. Why did they even start affiliating llamas with PvP anyways? Doesn’t even make sense. Let’s put an end to this pointless trend.
I remember it bouncing between OP and unplayable several times, but did it ever hit a middle-ground where it was perfectly fine?
Have you tried this new useful thing called google?
stun it, and it cant come back from that. It’s either healbot or have your team yell at you bc youre not a healbot.
Can’t come back? What about lightning flash? Shocking aura? Obsidian Flesh? Overloads?
All of these are instant cast skills that can and will save you from stunlocking.
People tend to make discrimination betwen who use elite and who don’t
That’s a bad excuse, everyone’s going to realize if someone’s playing core. Why is it any different to flame someone before the match starts or 2 minutes later?
I forget which patch it was but it was changed so that you can’t change after the match has started.
Thanks captain but I’m sure OP knows that and is complaining about how clueless people are even at the top ratings.
Elem is amazing if you duo, don’t play it alone tho.
WvW doesn’t have seasons so it’s ongoing. You can just do the pvp league until you get to byzantium or are satisfied with your rank, and then go WvW either during the PvP league season or during the off season.
I just want to clarify something, this isn’t about me. I play more than 120 games per season usually.
The 120 req was implemented to stop people from only playing 1 game occasionally to cancel decay AND to squeeze more playtime out of the current playerbase to make the ques more populated.
I’m just making an observation of how this has the OPPOSITE effect ALREADY, where a lot of people are playing less than before, not more. That’s obviously a bad thing for everyone.
Gotta love how most of the people here don’t even read what I wrote and just respond based on the title and personal interpretation.
Reading is hard LUL
But, and it’s a big but, only good players (including those who game the system) will be able to get on the leaderboard anyway.
For someone not on the leaderboard, potential wise, the 120 requirement doesn’t really exist.
It’s like a poor person complaining about a tax on millionaires.
That is so wrong. Getting into 250 range in GW2 is extremely easy, people can do it just by finishing placements.
Last season even those in gold were in the top 250 and got titles and oh boy are they nowhere near “top tier”.
A player with 80 games and 1850 rating will get nothing, but someone with 120 and 1600 probably will. Does it sound like a system where skill is rewarded more than grind? Not really.
The 120 bar is ridiculous, it should be ~70-90.
Especially for people who don’t play the season from day 1 or GW2 isn’t their only game.
It has a negative impacton PvP from what I’ve gathered. I have a lot of friends and guildmates who do PvP and even the most casual ones used to do at least 50-80 matches per season. But since the introductiong of the 120 games bar they need for any substantial reward their interest in PvP plummeted and now barely do their placements because “what’s the point”.
I understand that the bar used to be 10 games which is way too low, but 120? That went from 0 to 100 real quick.
This is supposed to make people player more which leads to more players and better matches, but it’s having the opposite effect where playersfeel like they are being forced to do something to the point where it’s just a chore they don’t care about.
Not to mention grinding both the PvP wins and the WvW pips is now almost a full-time job. Both are seriously overtuned.
If someone on your team is disconnected for 2 minutes or more, you will not incur a MMR penalty should you lose. Unless you queued as a duo with the person who disconnected, then you do lose MMR.
Maybe it’s unintended but it affects MMR gain too not just loss. I remember playing a match last season, tryharding our kitten out to win a 4v5 which we did, only to be slapped in the face by a whopping +0 MMR for it. It was the biggest letdown I have experienced in any competitive game so far.
Stronghold is the last thing in the world they should spend dev time at. It’s a failed attempt at copying mobas for an MMO.
Stronghold is PvP for PvE players. PvE players are better off with pure PvE content and PvP players benefit more from new maps and PvP gamemodes. Stronghold has no target audience, or at least not more than a few dozen players.
So Ben Phongluangtham’s recent comment regarding 2v2 only coming to custom arenas sparked some backlash and yes, I don’t agree with this decision either.
But it’s rare for someone from Anet to keep ur expecations in check, clarify what was said in the post, and pull the brake on the hype train if it’s leaving the stations for the wrong reasons, allowing us to give feedback on it early. This is the communication we need more of, regardless of how people respond. Things like this are steps towards a more healthy relationship between the dev team and the community.
So thank you, really.
I don’t get the complaints about the 2v2 custom arena only. Why would they rush to invent game mods with queues with specific maps without first letting players test put 2v2 in custom arenas first?
This is what they should have done for stronghold before releasing it to ranked and unranked queue.
I am hoping this is the beginning of a more structured development pipeline. Custom arenas > unranked queue > ranked queue.
Problem is this isn’t some sort of trial. He clearly stated they have no plans instead of “we have no plans as of now”. Big difference.
2v2 will come for custom arenas and will die there.
Unranked and ranked attract different communities with different opinions.
Sure, if I only played for dailies once or twice a week I wouldn’t mind, but if I have to play a lot of ranked matches on Coliseum I’m not going to be happy.
2v2 automated tournaments would be really cool.
1 month of conquest ATs then 1 month of 2v2 ATs, Anet please make it happen!
If it’s CA-only then what is this even about? We’re already able to restrict team sizes down to 2 players.
Is this literally nothing new then? CA rewards are so bad there won’t be 10 players at a time per region who use this for fun.. wasted opportunity and wasted dev time.
(edited by NotASmurf.1725)
Not a fan of adding this to ranked but if they do at least the 1 year old bugs and errors should be fixed.. least they can do.
S7 looked so promising, I knew they just had to ruin it.. would’ve been too nice.
condi or power creep – what is it
Power creep refers to increased power level, it has nothing to do with the GW2 stat called “power”.
Talking about the color of teammate names – used to be blue then for no reason and with no mention in any patch notes it was changed to a faint green. Nothing too important, but the blue was much easier to read in combat, could we get it back? It’s much harder to recognize randoms in soloq when say there are 2 druids on my team.
Literally…. damage for some professions is off the roof and CC makes some matches unplayable…..
Literally:
CC
CC
CC
CC
CC
deadNo where near enough stability/cc breaks to cope with it.
You never played WoW?
Wow has diminishing returns, a lot of the CC breaks on damage, and most silences do nothing if they miss whereas here you’ll get locked out of your skills if they land.
1) Why is it so long in the first place? Most other games have a ranked downtime between nothing and 1 week, yet were’re stuck with a month, sometimes more.
2) Recently we aren’t even told when the next season begins! It’s just unacceptable. Those with a main interest in PvP might just go off to play other games for this rather long period of time, and with no set date to look forward to, people will care less and less about checking for a date when it’s finally set (especially if they like that game).
You’re making your customers play other games and can’t even tell when they should check back, and why exactly? There aren’t any major reworks happening as far as I know, so why can’t we just have a fixed amount of time for all off-seasons?
This whole situation is just incredibly unprofessional not to mention damaging to your remaining community.

Thats because no other class has access to a second life bar. Shut up and quit complaining
I can voice my opinion all i want you don’t have to reply.
Im curious what class do you play Mr stop complaining I know its not necro. Its not a “second life bar” as health doesn’t degrade on its own.
I play warrior, and ive seen good reapers camp reaper shroud in 3v1s which is alot better than having blocks and evades
If a full shroud lasts more than 2 seconds in a 3v1 that’s not the necro being good, rather you 3 are playing with no hands.
I would pass atm. Unless you like just PvE. Currently WvW and PvP are in bad shape. Ultimately it is up to you. But imo it is not worth it atm.
PvP is not in bad shape, yes it needs some changes by far from bad shape. Wvw is still neglect.
PvP is a ghost town, it IS in a bad shape. Devs have no idea what they’re doing and how to go on.
Rev doesn’t use condi. Everyone’s just trying it out then after 2-3 matches realize it’s still unplayable and switches back to power.
There was nothing wrong with the skills. Nothing. It had a clear unique animation, minimal visual clutter, counterplay, synergy, and good damage.
And you changed the animation – for no reason.
Added a projectile that doesn’t hit for much but just enough to reveal the mesmer, ruining synergy with stealth – for no reason.
Why? Just.. why? Why do you break things that were completely fine?
You wanted to make power mes better.. and you made it worse.
And mods, this is 100% PvP related, please don’t move it to the mesmer forum.
(edited by NotASmurf.1725)
There aren’t enough players to operate a 5v5 gamemode properly but yeah sure let’s add 10v10 why not /s
Condi d/d spam 3 thief was in the top 10 rankings this past season.
So whoever says it’s not valid is wrong.
There were also no legit PvP players in the top 10 because all of them quit so what is this supposed to prove other than PvP hit rock bottom?
