I like what they did with the raid lore. It’s dark and also a bit disgusting how many people have been sacrificed to the bloodstone. On the other hand I also like the silly things such as Lord Faren going all Tarzan in the jungle. IMO diversity is good and there is plenty of room for the darker and happier lore in the game.
Raids for sure, best content I’ve played in an MMO to date.
And then people cry out that GW2 is dying. If people weren’t so selfish and helped out others by teaching them mechanics we’d have a much nicer/larger community.
In the low level fractals there are really no reasons for a good player to kick underlevels ‘cos the low levels are such a faceroll anyway. If they kick you from low levels they don’t wanna carry you or they’re not confident in their skills/are terrible at the game.
Not final but latest. The development of legendaries is on hold until decided otherwise. Doesn’t mean we’ll never see a new legendary ever in this game.
It’s good that Mo can make tough decisions but now the true challenge begins. Anet HAS to deliver good content or a big chunk of players will be lost.
2. Open world is way way to easy! Its never a challenge to go form one place to another because anything we encounter we kill easily. Gw1 it was a challenge to travel from one place to another, and man was it fun a rewarding!
Personally I would enjoy harder open world content, especially world bosses. The thing that makes GW2 appeal to the masses is the variety. The game has easy content in open world for casuals and challenging content in the instanced scene. Problem is that people want everything for themselves and the difficulty level has to match their preference perfectly (salty remark due to the current nerf raid plz discussion).
I would like to see a fractal where we fight a losing battle against Kralkatorrik and see how Destiny’s Edge lost that day.
Hehe, we need a How It Should Have Ended gw2 edition.
How it should have ended; “should we cut off each single tree and burn eatch plant?”
“No, the roots are to deep, it will just regrow”
- asura “great endless wood supply! I start buulding lumberjack golems with integrated portal, sell all the wood and make millions! Until the price drops, then i start sending the wood to jormak, buring in and endless fire until he melts, two dragons destroyed, who’s in?”
Perfect, and when wood drops in price in TP we can milk the vendors forever!
Hehe, we need a How It Should Have Ended gw2 edition.
While I agree that sylvari do grow most of their tools (technology in itself), Scarlet should still not be left out. No technology is developed in a vacuum after all and more often than not small upgrades and modifications make the big impact. Fusing completely different technologies together is impressive imo.
Scarlet did some pretty impressive stuff. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Scarlet_Briar
Basically you pick mallyx over shiro ‘cos you don’t need the quickness (chronos provide you that). Mallyx elite (upkeep skill) increases all of your stats resulting in a dmg increase even in a power build.
The White Mantle don’t need to have made the soul batteries to be able to use them. During All for One and One for Justice we see the White Mantle still sacrificing on the bloodstone with soul batteries attatched. This indicates that they still did their ritual even when the soul batteries had no destination.
Most likely, IMO, the situation is that they kept the sacrifices going until the soul batteries simply couldn’t hold any more souls within them and exploded (think like a lithium battery), which resulted in turn with the River of Spirits in the Spirit Vale. Then these souls go crazy with Mordremoth’s magic seeping the land.
Overloading soul batteries does make sense. Oh my, White Mantle really isn’t the nicest bunch. Sacrificing just for the heck of it is pretty brutal.
There was a comment that they were released when ‘something broke’ – it was a slip of the tongue by someone at Anet, and I’ve been thinking that something was soul batteries.
Though it’s possible that it’s the Bloodstone itself, which is why we see so many shards.
And I just recalled something about it being Mordremoth’s magic that charged the Bloodstones. Though I cannot recall if this was from a screenshot, from a dev, or just wild speculation. Seems more reasonable than souls charging them, given how many are out and about.
I believe that was from one of the guild chats. Some of Mordremoth’s magic went into the bloodstone.
Mysterious Voice: Who released us? (during wall of spirits)
Released from where and why? Releasing implies they know they were locked in somewhere.
Lost in the Rubble note
Ever since that windstorm riled up the ghosts, we can’t patrol the jungle floor. It’s infested with those kitten things. Got a hunch they came from inside the compound. I know what they did.
There were ghosts in the jungle before Mordremoth’s death. Does this mean something broke before the windstorm releasing the spirits and Mordremoth’s magic just made them crazy? Also why would the magic make them crazy?

Thank you for the answers! I’m still wondering why there are so many spirits running around when they should be inside the bloodtone shards. Doesn’t it seem a bit wasteful for something like Gorseval to emerge when all of those spirits could’ve been used to power up shards for White Mantle’s nefarious plans.
I’ve come across some theories that spirits are a form of magic. The thing is that in the new raid wing it seems like even the sacrificed still have their spirit remaining in the world.
My question is that what do the human sacrifices do to the bloodstone? What is the essence that charges the bloodstone? Bloodstone was used to seal away magic after all. How is magic charged to a person?
NPCs being able to lie or be biased certainly does add a lot of depth to the lore. Good job anet!
I think it is a poor assumption to make that casual players can’t raid or wouldn’t find raids entertaining, especially since there are probably as many definitions of casual as there are players. Raids are harder than your average content, but they aren’t by any means impossible for anyone but the elite.
Specific to this discussion, I believe it’s safe to assume that there are way more GW2 players who do not want to engage in raids in their current form than there are those that really enjoy how they currently are. That doesn’t mean that the former group has no interest in raids as a concept, or that they will never try them, just that when they do they will be more frustrated than entertained by them and relatively quickly move on to other things. Providing alternate versions may bring these players on board though.
Is it safe to assume that though? Forums tend to give a polarized picture of the current situation and in game we tend to be around people with a similar mindset enforcing our own beliefs. Only Anet has the stats to back these statements. In the meantime I would encourage not to assume anything.
Absolutely yes! I’ve got so many game hours for 100€ already and there’s still a lot of stuff I haven’t done.
In a recent reddit survey 70% of the people who answered said they’ve tried raids. Now I don’t believe that is an accurate number but I wouldn’t be surprised if 10%-15% of the active players do raids regularly. If 6/300 anet employees (that’s 2%) are developing raids I don’t see a problem here. A small group of people makes awesome content for a decent amount of players.
Be mad at the people who are making casual content if you really have to be angry all the time. The raid team just seems to have their formula down so why should they make content slow if they can make it fast.
Personally I’ve been enjoying raiding immensely. The challenge is there but it is not gated behind a simple gear grind where the next boss always needs better equipment but instead they require learning the mechanics. This approach will keep every raid wing relevant till power creep comes in the form of new elite specs (although it’ll be much slower this way than through gear).
I have been fortunate enough to get myself into a raiding group and we’re doing the content in a regular schedule. The only problem I see for people not being able to at least try out raids is the hassle around it, not the content itself. Getting a group of 10 like-minded people can be a real problem. If Anet is able to make a system to bring these people together more efficiently raids will be a HUGE advantage for Guild Wars 2.
Can’t wait to get beaten by a posessed diabolic sloth. It’ll be amazing! Love how anet doesn’t take everything too seriously.
The point is rewards offered.
AI fighting rewards are Ascended and legendary.
Player fighting rewards are scraps in comparison.
AI fighting is looking up dulfy to memorize boss and beat them to get best loot.
Players fighting other players is vastly more difficult and there are not any crutches or do overs, but those wvw and spvp players get awful loot.
Priorities.
Be good enough and compete in the pro scene. The rewards there are better than anything PvE will ever give.
Hammer DH anyone?

As much as I’d like to have annual expansions, it sounds a bit too optimistic for me. I’m predicting another expansion comes out late 2017 if they really do want to add other content while working with the expansion. HoT took like a year of development while we got almost nothing in the meantime.
Why can’t people just play the kittening game. How lazy do you have to be to go out of your way to do as little as possible in a game you supposedly play for relaxation and fun.
It’s a game; some people play for fun, others play for speed clear, while some play for the rewards.
Most people, not just limited to gamers will always opt for the path of least resistance in life. If you’re not one of those people, great there’s a solution put in some effort find a like minded group and go have fun.
It’s the same as this https://dviw3bl0enbyw.cloudfront.net/uploads/forum_attachment/file/202948/image.jpg
….Now go play how you want.
The problem is that in LFG most of the groups ad their run as “56-67-77”. A guy who doesn’t want to use the exploit gets kicked during 67 after doing 56 just fine. Is it right to force other people to use exploits when the LFG ad doesn’t indicate any particular method.
The gun isn’t at their head. If they see people exploiting they do not have to stay in said group and are more than capable of starting their own.
You missed the point. The moral dilemma was not if the guy who doesnt want to exploit should stay or not. It was that do the other people have the right to kick him for not breaking under the pressure to use exploits himself. Joining a simple “56-67-77” should not force anyone to use exploits. If people do want to use exploits, they should name it in the LFG as “56-67-77 tree exploiting”
You missed the entire point yourself there bud.
If said person has such a strong moral compass then why are they even sticking around, let alone sticking around to the point of being kicked ?A simple right click leave party solves the problem for the moral compass, as does forming their own group of like minded players.
It’s that simple.
That’s like saying a legit player has to leave Auric Basin after getting 200% participation if they see someone using position hack to tear down octovine’s stacks or a WvW player has to change server if he knows someone from his server is hacking to gain an advantage. Leaving doesn’t accomplish anything.
A legit player doesn’t have the power to stop other player from exploiting. Exploiters shouldn’t have the power to stop other players from playing legit. Kicking legit players is disrupting their gameplay.
@Dinosaurs So you would kick people for not being ok with breaking the ToS which can in theory lead to a ban? Moral dilemma indeed…

I d not understand you people you are complaining about the way people are playing their game if you do not like them using the trees then don’t use them it is that simple. People that say this is an exploit are dead wrong the trees are not the end all be all if you go to high up he becomes invulnerable so you have to be low enough for him to hit you so there is no exploit it is just an easier place to stack it matters not if you stack in the middle of the area all this dose is stops him from jumping around and taking longer then he already dose. please learn what they are being used for before you speak.
Plus about ppl being able to do higher levels with lower AR get over it maybe they are just better then you are maybe they do not have the deep pockets you have to make the armor because the prices of stuff on the trading post went through the roof and farming the stuff is almost impossible I know I have tried to farm to make stuff but guess what it takes for ever then you are stuck using exotic gear and some teams are you need this to do that well guess what you don’t you need smarts and if using our brains is against any rules then I for one am guilty and so are 3 quarters of all the rest of the community.
Abusing a mechanic that was not inteded by devs to trivialize an encounter to the point where it can be killed without proper gear sounds like an exploit to me. How do I know it wasn’t intended? They removed the pole.
What are you talking about? Have you seen the death magic condi reaper in raids? The traitline is perfectly viable.
Poor mossman, if only his attacks had a bit more verticality he’d be able to cut the bad apples from the tree with his axes.
Except that this has nothing to do with “make your own group” or “play how i want” or sth like this, but it is clearly an exploit which everybody agreed when installing the game that anet can ban you for it, and it should be fixed asap regardless if any1 likes it or not.
The Wintersday jumping puzzle exploiters also were just playing how they want, so is it ok to exploit the wintersday jumping puzzle then?
Completely agree that it should be fixed asap. But you as a player do not have the power to stop other people from exploiting. You can only control your own actions and the only way to ensure the non exploit in this case is to specifically signal the pugs in lfg.
Has been said many times on the thread but it is effective to make your own group. At least that’s what I do. Post something like “Swamps of the mists, no exploit on mossman (56-67-77)” and you’re good to go. People do actually join these groups fairly often.
Scribing makes me sad. There is so much missed potential here that it hurts. They may have thought of it as the sink to rule them all but if your players don’t use the features due to insane prices, you might as well not have it. If they really want people to start to use this sink they should lower the recipe costs so more people would be motivated to try it out. The prices are elastic so to speak if we want to use economic’s terms.
I would like to play the game for fun and not for rewards.
Wouldn’t it be better if you enjoyed the gameplay so much that the rewards are just a bonus? I have played games like that. The negative side of the psychological principle you talk about is justifying boring gameplay by adding a shiny reward at the end.
This is MMORPG. Fun = rewards. You could enjoy gameplay for a while, yes, but without rewards no mmo would live longer than a month.
Diablo 3 had amazing loot but was a snoozefest. Fun and engaging gameplay for me anyday over everything on a silver plate.
Happy New Year everyone!
Most mules are sterile, does that make them not alive?
I don’t think it’s possible or even beneficial for devs to think what might or might not offend people since we tend to be triggered by different things. Some people have lost their children to gunfire, some people have been beaten by their drunk father and in some cultures it would be blasphemy for women to wear as skimpy clothes as we can in this game. There were a lot of offended people when they announced the airplane thingy for april fools because of that one plane crashing.
You simply can’t please everyone and getting rid of jokes, booze, guns and skimpy clothes would probably make me and many others quit the game ’cos the game would just be so boring.
Offense is always taken on a personal level, never given to anyone.
What ratio between game and gem is to far 4U?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: NotOverlyCheesy.9427
I don’t really mind the gemstore stuff as long as it doesn’t have a power increase. There is always the option to farm gold in-game and transfer it to gems so you can buy gemstore items without spending real money to it.
What a funny thread. OP thinking that stating stuff like this will impact the prices in a meaningful way and then players getting triggered. Guys, chill :P
For open world PvE I suggest power builds since stuff usually dies quite fast. If you’re facing something a bit tougher I absolutely recommend a viper reaper with scepter/dagger. You never ever have to go in melee range with that build. It doesn’t utilize pewpew projectiles though so it might not suit that preference but it is a true ranged dps option.
Bumping this! We’re still welcoming people with open arms.
Doing the JP and getting to the 10k feels like a very achievable task imo. I’m at 1k drinks just after 3 days and I haven’t even been farming my kitten off or anything.
There have been a few niche situations where I’ve changed away from power reaper to power necro. For example when my party didn’t have enough burst to bring dredge suit/ ice elemental down in fractals and we moved to the ranged option. Using power necro in this situation for the life blast in necro shroud worked pretty well.
I got carried in all 3 fights and my “team” killed 1st time VG and gorsi without me (how to blame them); they then came back to “help carry” me, stating that they “didn’t mind” as long as we did it for all the ones who missed it (clearly carrying me alone would’ve been such a bother, not like we’ve been knowing each other for 2-5 years! apparently I’m a pug), so all I felt when we—I beat the raid was bitterness (vale), frustration for not killing it earlier (gorseval) and numb guilt for getting carried (sabetha).
Currently stopped raiding (temporarily, I presume?) and it’s much better. I’m bored, yeah, but at least I don’t have to scramble to get people only to have them whine because they have to “wait” (excuse me if I don’t instantly summon raid-slaves which blindly follow my lead within 2 minutes from the convocation) or we don’t down the boss 1st try, or pm spam me while I’m trying to focus and get 2-4 zombies who don’t talk on ts to collaborate and confirm we’re all on the same page.
Apparently it’s my fault if we never have enough people to fill all the slots.
deSalt is real
Not quite sure what OP is on about but I’m a bit worried about the economy. According to gw2tp.com the value of gold has increased from 1$/15g to 1$/10g. At the same time the demand of ascended equipment and guild halls have made materials go from example 2s/elder wood plank on 23rd october to 7s/elder wood plank on 25th november. I really do wonder if players who started just for HoT are ever able to get the equipment required for raiding if this kind of progression continues.
