So I take my 10 cyphers to Scarlet’s Lair and well, I am then greeted with unfathomable disappointment. Well played, I should have expected this as it made absolutely no sense which is often how business is done.
Yes, another job well done with the dialogue in these biweekly updates. I do wish the dialogue of this variety had made it into the personal story though as that is obviously more permanent. Even if well done it is still going into a black hole in a couple weeks most likely and that is kind of upsetting.
Yeah, I think this was very well-written with an emotional grab and humor in good taste and all of which I didn’t find much in the storytelling up until now. So please keep up the good work!
Well, this is a thread to voice opinion of the instance in LA that is entirely based on story telling.
My opinion is that it is probably the best story telling done in this game in a long time, if not the best. It gave you a sense of where the story was at, what role the characters had, and retained an emotional connection at least for myself. I had found the story telling up until this point to be devoid of any sort of emotional depth so this was very refreshing to see and I want this to be a lot more prevalent throughout the entire game as I think it will help it a lot in the future. Also, the writing wasn’t half-bad either, I always kind of cringed when they put cheesy humor into serious situations, and I was glad to see that didn’t happen here. So…good job guys!

Also since berserker gear affects different classes in many ways there will be horrible imbalances. Classes already behind the power curve will be really behind, and classes on top will still be on top, but by less of a margin.
If this ends up being a nerf to that gear set and not a buff to others, I can see this being a disaster absolutely, and it wouldn’t even surprise me at this point. One step forward and two steps back.
What aspect of the game are you referring to?
Well, I was just being as broad as possible, although I don’t think many will lose sleep if the axe hit pvp only. We know that’s not where it’s aimed at though.

A lot of our traits are misplaced. This is intentional sadly.
I was hoping this was going to be about balancing PvE damage more reasonably throughout the classes. Sadness
So I’ve had a gilded infusion since about a month after they came out. Then boss cash drops were taken away and their main use is gone. Is there anyway I can get more mileage out of the 20 laurels I spent on this thing? Should I just go with the 20 percent magic find option?
kitten , I’ve been sitting at 2k+ mostly in items and thought I was just doing alright.
If you think about it, Anet really isn’t asking for all that much. This ascended armor is equal to highest end raid gear in wow as far as stats are concerned.
That being said, the drop-rate is probably absurdly low given their history of drop rates.
Someone mentioned a cutscene replayer and I am strongly in agreement with that. Although, it should only be the epic cutscenes like the intro, the order intro, and the walk into Fort Trinity after the story is complete. I don’t think the dialogue cutscenes have much replay value.
Also, are we going to have a dungeon and class discussion thread? I am sure a lot of us have things to say about those topics and there is great potential.

Hire this man as your consultant. Anyway yeah, make an alternate switchable set of weapon abilities, or you guys can 1’up that and make a swappable pool of weapon abilities to pick from for each weapon. That would truly make things more interesting
Also, I am surprised little have mentioned it, but the current set-up of skill trees is absolutely boring. You have to wait until level 15 to get a minor trait that varies from awesome to absolutely useless.
Short version: Spice up the skill trees and make minor traits something that can be chosen. Also, why are we limited at 30 points? I know a lot of times I wanted to go over that and there is no good reason why I can’t.

Yeah, I’ve been trying sword sword and longbow with a bunker build the past week and I have to say that I am pretty much unstoppable in any 1v1 scenario.
I even killed a necro while standing in his wells and when I got to half health around 16k, I took a step back and used the longbow on him to finish it. If you compare the shield and the off-hand sword, I think most people will see that the sword is just flat-out better. Shorter cds, the same block if used during ranged attacks, and a ranged torment attack that is a two part skill with both resulting in high damage. In their efforts to make the War viable, they made them too viable and didn’t remove the things added in the process.
This current build is currently a monster though. I get self-healing out the wazoo and decent damage to wear down any class, even guard bunkers seem frail in comparison.
That build is strong against some builds but is still terrible under focus and pales in comparison against guard’s survavibility.16k health is your half in condi build ? Thx for the laugh and the try you got some people fooled
I don’t know what’s wrong with you, but I have never been killed by a guard with this build yet and have killed many. I am sure there are some guards that can womp me, but as of yet, I have not met one. Also, it’s a power-build, and you are a passive aggressive kitten that I would rather not have to respond to again. So please cut that crap out.
The 16k was my health if there was any confusion there.

You sir have convinced me that selling paths is an absolute cancer on this game and it should be removed immediately.
I kind of agree with the last statement. I remember seeing it blow up and thinking, “there goes months of developer hard work that is now gone forever”. I know the devs are working to get paid, but there is something demoralizing about building a statue only to have it destroyed I feel.
Besides the improvements to the jp and the new events. This Wintersday feels very rewarding with gifts out the wazoo. I enjoy the constant rewards a lot. Think this is the way the holiday should be.
The trade-in items aren’t great, but oh well. The best part is that besides the trade-in items the gifts have things you actually want like the ascended recipe and essence of luck (500). Thanks guys!

Anyone else been trying out the signet? In pve I found it to be absolutely boss, and in hotjoin 8v8s as well. If you can even squeeze 3k hp out of the passive before having to use it. I think it is very worth it.
I’m just glad that I won’t have to roll around a warrior with a hammer nearly as much now
Alright my mesmer brethren, as you can see the thieves, warriors, eles, and guardians are in disarray. I think it is time for us to rise up and stop allowing the inferior classes to survive. Remember to take no prisoners and that necromancers are still a thing. Aside from that, feel free to assist in the cause of mesmer world domination.

Yeah, the thief and ranger community should be upset to be honest. The guardian’s is also a little shaky.
But the two classes I mentioned previously seem to have been balanced with the assumption that the players will take the necessary traits, thus punishing the people who don’t with extreme prejudice.
I mean, 45 second cd on a venom heal? How is that even remotely viable without the traits?
Yeah, I was shocked to see that as well. I mean, the feature is already there. All they have to do is add some UI popups and you are good to go. They apparently decided that we don’t need such fun features to distract ourselves. Only the Devs need it. For Dev stuff.
Couple questions here that I bet a few people would want to know.
What would be the cost in gold and/or glory of these tomes? Would the cost go up once glory is removed?
At least give some speculation numbers if you can. I’m personally thinking 1 gold and some glory isn’t bad. 80 gold = level 80 providing you had the glory. However, if gold became the sole currency, someone could walk into pvp and just clean house with rewards. However, that might be absurd if the matches are giving 1 silver a win. But you certainly can’t let a level 2 walk into pvp and get 30 silver. What is going to be done about this?
There really won’t be the addition of some sort of little token we can trade in? WoW style perhaps?
I wouldn’t say any of those are scarier than a relentless onslaught of phantasms, but I agree. If anyone in the room is panicking, they should stop. I like being OP.
This sounds really good for maximizing dps in PvE if you are a slippery little quaggan and don’t need the heal too much. I do think it’ll be overpowered in pvp undoubtedly. I hope they split the skills to have a longer cd in pvp or something.
Not only could you spam phantasms in pvp, but at a sporadic and unpredictable rate. Players won’t know what to do.
Yeah, still no progress. I am running the driver version it was shipped with and the same blocks come up on the screen before crash. When I did a hard restart, the screen even appeared to have tears in it with some white lines over the blank screen.
Tried uninstalling the graphics driver and still no change with the reinstall. The file integrity was apparently good.
Should I submit this to the Nvidia website? Either that or the card is faulty or overheating I figure. Windows Kernal just keeps crashing which I suppose is to stop whatever it is from shutting my computer off. However, it is not succeeding at that :/
As far as a driver sweeper, I am not sure where to check for a reliable one. Any additional advice would be awesome!

Have you done a clean install with the driver and using a driver sweeper software? Have you also run the file integrity check I posted for the OP.

I am also having the same problem listed by the OP with this brand new computer. The screen would go black or I would see blocks of teal and the whole computer will go into some sort of coma if I don’t close GW2 Immediately.
It is driver related as far as I can tell, because when I closed GW2 quickly after seeing the warning signs, it had said “KERNEL driver has stopped working but has recovered”. Any tips?

So a fun question to ask to help direct the conversation a bit: What aspects of your favorite television shows would you think would be cool to see reflected in a game medium?
Well, I have a two part answer. One mechanically and one story driven.
I would say that specifically it would be quite interesting to see the aspects of “Bleach” in which the characters have swords (mostly katanas) that all look unique and have unique transformations that affect the user. I think having weapons that could do unique things or to give classes all their unique versions of Death Shroud would be incredibly interesting, however costly. However, if incorporated into a parody story it would probably come out cheesy in a bad way.
So what would be an interesting story would be to take someone as prominent as the “Lich King” from WoW and do segments on what led him up to that point. Since he was already an incredibly interesting character with being a human that has immense power and a king slayer. The player would likely want to test their strength against such a foe to see how powerful they them self (the player) have become. Right now there is just no good villains unfortunately, and IMO it hurts the lore a lot. Perhaps if the dragons had a humanoid form of some sort, then they could be related to. Assuming they could talk.

The rewards were barely par with the increased deadly blossoms and now they are probably under par. The chests are still average dungeons chests which makes little sense. Is this really the reward skilled dungeon runners can expect in the future? Maybe a guaranteed rare from the chests would make them acceptable.
The unique trade-able skins is a great idea. However, I didn’t even know they were trade-able until I looked them up just now, because that’s how weighed down by RNG they are, and I’ve run this path with the same group quite a few times.
Don’t make a great dungeon and then skimp on the rewards. You know it’s not good when we have more achievement hunters than treasure hunters. The RNG is just upsetting and shouldn’t be that heavy in these dungeons.

I always thought Living Story was a great idea, but there was apparent things holding it back.
I mean sure some things do change, but we never have any evidence that it was changed by us specifically. Which is why I think there needs to be more phasing done in some aspects of the game.
Also, some people have no idea who Lady Kasmeer or Lord Faren is. There needs to be more story telling going on outside of Living Story if these quests absolutely have to disappear. It quite frankly causes some confusion for returning and new players.
Maybe like a Living Story tutorial or something in the future to introduce the player to these characters. Otherwise I foresee people having no idea what is going on story-wise.
Also, is Living Story ever going to catch up with the player story? Because as far as timelines go, I see Living Story being between the start of time to who knows when. Maybe start adding dates in time to the game? Might help if done right.
I don’t know who is in charge over there, but they done messed it up. 100g to make a 20 slot that the player can instead buy off the TP for 13g. There is literally nothing I want to convert because it feels like a shafting across the board.
Where are the desirable halloween rewards?
To remove the achievement for finishing the clock tower? kitten move guys. I feel cheated.
So what would you like to see?
A “ready” button that appears before the match is created, and if someone doesn’t hit it within some time-window the match is aborted and both teams are returned to the queue? Perhaps the non-responding players kick out of the team, or kicked out of the entire queue?
One way would be to check your heartbeat every so often with a “are you still here” button, but that would be kind of annoying. It also doesn’t address the players who leave because they don’t like the team they are paired with.
We could just ramp up the dishonor system.
I know the team has their own thoughts on this, but I’d really like to see if someone here can come up with something awesome.
Well, you could increase the penalty, but I think that will do more harm than good at this point.
The best course of action would IMO be to allow people joining the solo queue to fill in progress games. You just simply can’t let a team persist with a man down as it is unfairly brutal. At least they can have a fighting chance this way.
Well if you guys ever want Living Story to feel the way you want then you know that eventually heavier phasing technology needs to be used. A hospital blows up in a race’s story-line and you go right to that place after and find that it is still there.
I am quite surprised that more phasing hasn’t been used as I can’t think of much better ways to show the player they impacted the world in some way.
I would be surprised if they did that as it would basically be death-match. On the other hand I wouldn’t mind a big flatland with a few hills and a flag or powerup in the middle. It would be Zerg Vs. Zerg, but at least it would be guaranteed team-play.
Also I guess they should add something to break up the 5v5, because at the start everyone would know who the victor is. Maybe more power ups on the map.

As you said he is one of the highest dps in WoW, but others are not far behind. As for Gw2, warrior is the top dps and others are far behind. That is the point i was trying to make. Anet should rase other classes or nerf warrior to the ground to fairly equalize the dmg. My main is a warrior btw.
Your point is incorrect, because warriors are not the top DPS, and the ones above and below it are not that far off.

This is actually the best time to be discussing this, because apparently the combat log is going to be updated to display more info. (Pets maybe?) So if that is added then you could easily get Mesmer dps using a copy cat version of recount on wow.
But yeah, if allowed, half the class forums would probably be in an uproar.
Yeah, I don’t know how I feel about this. I say they just pull an SAB and touch up the old skins a bit to pass them off as new ones. Would be a shame if we didn’t get the chainsaw this year.

Please halp the PvE phantasm mesmer. I have to go 20 into power to get the reduction of greatsword skills. 20 into precision for the reduction on pistol skills. 25 into vitality for the minor trait that gives 15 percent more phantasm damage (Not even sure why that trait is there). And 25 into the shatter tree for the minor trait that gives a reduction of illusion summon cool-downs, which previous was not there.
I mean you could probably give our illusion infinite health with no aggro pull and we still would have trouble topping wars on a dps meter. Some people want to just be pure damage, let us be damage without these silly hoops.
