There is always weird design choices that bring me back to these forums lol.
I understand removing the original content of a dungeon if you’re not happy with it, but now we have two 45’s (I think?) and an 80 path, which has terrible synergy. I am not even going to pretend there was often 45’s running TA f/u but now they don’t even have the option I would imagine, which is odd. I saw Leif’s post and I still can’t fully justify coming to that decision in their shoes. Now it seems kind of odd IMO, until they continue the revamp.
Also from the preview, I do fear that the dungeon missed its chance to tell a story, but we will see in a bit. Worst case scenario: Anyone who hasn’t done that part of Living Story has no idea why the Lionguard is there and we have no idea of Zhaitan’s current state of affairs while this dungeon is going on, which at 80 one would suspect Zhaitan to be mentioned story wise as that is when things unfold in Orr.
I have also had the money to buy my precursor for a significant time now, however, I didn’t acquire this much gold by spending it foolishly. I would be shocked if it cost more than 800g to craft a precursor.
Most of that will probably come from the levels needed for the crafting; just like the ascended
Yes, I was one person fortunate enough to have saved up, and I must say that if I ever hope to get a legendary, I cannot spend any of it. Either the person that gave this move the go-ahead had no grasp of the amount of karma needed for a legendary or they just assumed the player-base would be more than happy to get obsidian shards another way.
They are gravely mistaken. Need to reduce some costs somewhere if this is to stand.
A lot of players are just running on reserves at this point.
From wiki:
“The Shatterer, also called the Beast by some Sentinels, is a rank given to a champion of Kralkatorrik. At any given time, there’s only a single dragon of this rank.”The other one must have been on vacation or something.
Other dragons not holding the rank of Shatterer doesn’t mean that they won’t look the same.
I am pretty sure the shatterer isn’t supposed to have a twin brother roaming around without some sort of lore to explain that. That’s a serious threat.
They took this away?! Bring it back now. Really, we already have certain armors dominating the scene, at least let us customize it more.
Is the myriad of mostly useless and or misplaced Mesmer traits ever going to be addressed? The pool has been quite the mess since forever.
I’m pretty sure the Mesmer player base is in almost universal agreement that Illusionists Celerity needs to be removed and affected skills need to have their baselines adjusted a tad.
The trait is far to powerful it’s own good. The fact that so many players feel 25 points into illusions is almost mandatory should say alot. The buffs to Mantras are nice, but they still have a pretty huge problem in Harmonious Mantras.
You cant buff their rather lackluster effects, or they risk being rather overpowered with the trait. I think most players would probably prefer if the trait was removed and Mantras had their baseline brought up to par with other utilities.
EDIT:
Pain and Distraction getting a PBAoE would be pretty neato and fit in with the whole ‘AoE Mantras’ thing.Arcane Thievery can still be blocked by aegis/doesnt work through blind, is single target and has pretty poo range, all while having a higher CD than Null Field. It really needs some love.
I really feel like Phantasms hitting from stealth shouldn’t be happening.
Stealth spamming zerker phantasm builds have very little counter play.
It’s cheesy and isn’t all that fun for anybody to play against.
On the subject of Phantasms, it’d be great if they could trigger sigils and other % effects again and gain some utility outside of just dealing direct damage.Illusionary Leap.
Illusionary Leap Illusionary Leap Illusionary Leap Illusionary Leap Illusionary Leap, Illusionary Leap Illusionary Leap.
Ill. Usion. Ary. Leap.If this skill were able to write a novel, it would be a harrowing best seller about the horrors of parental neglect.
Yes to all of this. Make S/S viable and fix our trait tree that was purposely borked. If the trait trees from that other MMO had good synergy then the Mesmer would be the example of awful synergy with our kitten offensive phantasms traits buried randomly in the shatter tree.
I just hope that this is in some way related to releasing the jungle dragon, otherwise I see this story going right off the train tracks into the ravine. I also will be disappointed if there isn’t some sort of conversation about the end of the personal story-line because IMO this is probably the best shot at a smooth transition to the next dragon and we all know it won’t be the most powerful one if it is.
@OP
I am pretty sure there isn’t multiple Shatterers roaming around as that wouldn’t make sense since the gw2 universe is stuck in a time loop that repeats itself every 2 hours on average for world events.
To believe that we would also have to believe there is a new “Tequatl” every two hours and since we know that dragon by name we can safely say that he is in fact the same dragon that we fight over and over.
Although, I would like to see multiple Shatterers, maybe change his head up and rotate him out with a few others daily. Change some mechanics between them.
I will make this short and sweet. I like the accessibility and found it effective and efficient at grabbing up one person for CM P2 and 3. Took about 10 seconds to find someone both times I tried it.
However, there is no mandatory distinction on what exactly the group wants to do in the dungeon. I think this is a major problem because unfailingly I immediately found a notice in which the person was hosting a party in Sorrow’s Embrace and left no description. What the hell good is that?
Need to have a check-mark system for people to hit what they intend to do in the dungeon. Otherwise you can get a party of people with varying opinions and that may ultimately lead to the destruction of the party.
I think it is dependent on gear, build, and skill. We could force everyone into glass builds, but if they don’t know how to survive with that, it would just leave more corpses and less damage done overall.
Also on the note of Engy turrets; this is good news
On the thief pistol, I say you guys should just make a bunch of abilities and allow us to swap them out. You know how happy that would make the playerbase? Oh do I wish I could throw away the mesmer greatsword 2 and 3 for something harder hitting without condition effects.
If there is one thing I must say is that I hope the Mesmer illusions are seeing a large health buff as well. I saw previously in some claimed “leaked” notes that they will not. This is not acceptable since the health buff to our illusions I still find my berserker and duelist being one-shotted by the Flame Effigy’s self explosion-like attack at the end of CoF P1, which only does like 6k damage to my glass mesmer.
Not to mention open world leveling of mesmers is still one of the poorest class experiences to date. This is not even subjective at this point, I guarantee any poll will tell you this as I hear complaints from people all the time about how weak the mesmer is when leveling it early on. We need this buff too.
If we do the underwater dragon then they better release the quaggan with that, I can’t think of a better time to put them in.
Obviously if they go with the others then the Tengu would be acceptable, however I don’t get the appeal of playing as Big Bird from Sesame Street.
Lol, I totally forgot about the legendary karma requirement as well. To say that will be brutal may be a bit of an understatement.
Yeah, as someone who has a mil karma I will not be spending any of it as it is now extremely valuable. Monthlies give 6k karma; dailies give 600. This is extremely daunting for new players to get the things they want via karma. The orrian boxes? Forget about it. Not even remotely worth it now.
I can’t imagine someone spending all their karma pre-patch then having an enjoyable experience getting the karma they need for the ascended recipe. I don’t know why this was done.
I am glad Colin said they will make the next race based on the popular speculations. It makes me happy to know they may one day hire a voice actor to speak for a quaggan hero.
I was a little disappointed that dungeons may never get a hard mode thus rendering agony resistance forever useless.
He did make a very good point that those 3 settings would splinter the dungeon base further, but that just made me think that perhaps one of the settings should be done away with or at least merged to some degree as they are essentially the same thing, but one has sadly less reward.
Lol, I can’t imagine the reaction some dye hoarders must have had when they saw this.
Ouch, I didn’t even know they had reached above 40 gold
So I guess general consensus is to stay away?
Surely supply will be in peril eventually if they don’t bring the old ones back.
So the Super Adventure Box (SAB) is coming back with predictably new skins. Now there was a dev blog post earlier when the SAB hit that we will probably not be seeing the old skins again. However, the market is obviously hesitant to believe that and rightfully so. It doesn’t help that the market is a bit over-saturated at the moment and not everyone wants a lightsaber for a weapon.
My question is, What are your predictions on the current super skins and the new ones?
They have been in quite a slump since the last SAB round and another round of the same skins would probably make them worthless. So that will at least be interesting to see.
2. What exactly is your definition of fun? Fun is subjective, no?
This is my opinion, but I think the standard of fun should always be at minimal something that the developer and immediate friends and family of the developer team can wholeheartedly agree that something is indeed fun and enjoyable without fear of hurting the feelings of the people involved.
If you wanted to 1-up that, I would say you should look at MMOs whose PvP players hold in high regards and take a day at the office to play them and if you can confidently say that PvP in this game stacks up then you are doing it perfectly, otherwise it will likely be inspiration for improvement.
I am sure Colin would go for that. Couldn’t hurt haha.
I mostly farm in lower level areas naked, saves any wear and tear on your armor
I approve of this method.
their damage is ridiculously low
Eles may not have stealth or clones but high almost instantaneous damage(when chained quick enough with arcane spells) that auto crits has to count for something.
Edit.: Dagger main hand is sustain/control damage
Random Edit (To help you consider scepter): Phoenix IMO is one of the BEST skills in the game. The utility and damage it provides cannot be overlooked.
I disagree with that video whole-heartedly. I have careered a glass mesmer main since I have started back in October and not once has an Ele done that to me or even came close. It is great that one ele was able to do it, but that one ele doesn’t represent even a 1/10 fraction of eles in pvp; not even by a long-shot.
Although I suppose it is anecdotal evidence vs. anecdotal evidence in this scenario. I do feel eles need a boost. Controlling the elements has never felt so underwhelming considering I can conjure an imaginary image to hit 8.9k with my number 4 skill.
I hope this is true.
Mesmers are very hard to kill, near perma invul + stealth + teleport + cc + moa + etc… Like a God :/Ilusionist duelist hits harder than thief unload. Swordman and berserker do not stay far. Spatial surge taking same damage as evicerate, and without cooldown.
Actually a mesmer can easily change the tide of battle :/
May be i am the supreme noob here because i never win an mesme.
NEVER!
I put the text in bold in that quote that I thought everyone should see. Duelist hits harder than thief unload and Spatial surge (The mesmer greatsword auto-attack) is on par with the warrior’s axe kill-shot move known to hit 10k plus.
I feel just pointing that out is enough. I can’t even address the OP because of this post.
Uh, the duelist can be entirely reflected and you can obstruct it. So I am telling you not to bork my phantasms anymore.
This game is balanced around group-play anyway apparently. Two necros or two eles versus two phantasm mesmers and we will get rick-rolled and rofl-stomped to a horrible degree. Why is nothing being done about that?
Another Phantasm mesmer here to claim victory.
30/20/0/20/0
I used the truffle soup or whatever gives the 40% endurance refill rate and it helped a ton. Also a sharpening stone.
I had GS and Sword/Focus with focus abilities reflecting projectiles that I would use to hide behind in first phase.
Utilities were: Blink to get the heck out of the Aoe, feedback (blocking 1st phase attacks), and mantra of resolve in case the cripple would be a problem. Elite was Reaper of Grenth that I would use right after second phase started to chill and poison her making her not able to get to me, which gave me time to target and drop phantasms down.
Overall it is extremely easy if the phantasms land at the right time.
Edit: Oh and I was wearing full berserker gear as well.

Yeah, I once thought that it would be better for them to scrap the current system and implement a skill tree system, but when I thought about it, it would be extremely hard for them to pull it off and make it better than the current systems.
I mean, what makes a skill tree great?
New abilities
New skills
Since skills are already unlocked a different way they would have to make 5 elaborate trees that have like “45 percent chance to summon addition minion” every tier just to make it work.
They would likely have to put more effort into it than any MMO to date, but it could work, I just think that they won’t even risk the time investment with how long it will take. That’s assuming it could be done with the current engine.
Yeah, I dunno. No feedback on the infusions worries me greatly. That tells me they are either considering it or planning on the head in the sand technique, which would not be good PR.
In any case, the gilded infusion I have will now be next to useless. Yeah, I used it to get ahead in gold drops, and it took me 20 days of my times doing the dailies to get it. So I could be rewarded for my hard work. I worked out the kitten for it.
It is very depressing to see other players flaunting their apathy for other people in this thread. In any case, I would gladly take a karma infusion over what I have, but spending the laurels on it after this will be another slap in the face. Hope something is done.
There are two different masquerade sets, one is in pvp only and it used to be known as “Tribal”. However it shares the thumbnail of the pve masquerade armor and looks nothing like the masquerade armor in pve. Is this a bug or an oversight?
When can we get this armor in pve anyway?
My advice to everyone who wants their gold secure, get a personal guild bank. It cost me 2g to make mine and have 50 slots in it. You would be deluding yourself to think your gold was any safer in your personal bank anyway, with all due respect.
Yeah, I agree that the light armor classes should be the heavy damage dealers as well. I mean, that would follow stereotypical MMO logic, but at least it was a system that made sense. Now we have a class with the heaviest armor doing the heaviest damage with low risk and high reward compared to let’s say, thief or mesmer in PvE.
It is clear they didn’t want to follow the stereotypical light armor damage nuker formula, but I wonder what is even the point of armor locking classes then?
Yeah, I second the OP. Let’s not pretend people bought the gold find infusion for another reason than dungeon boss drops. I am sure that there is somebody out there who did, but that person does not represent a majority, that much I can guarantee .
This sounds like the best idea I have seen implemented in a long time anywhere. I am not even sure if WoW did this with the gold of all characters, but I think this is a +1 over all MMOs. Good move indeed.
My biggest fear is that some sort of bug/glitch/exploit is found and it likely causes catastrophic damage to the economy as well allowing clever players to get ahead again. Although I am not against that entirely, it would be a shame if someone borks the system.
As someone who went to check the event out, quite frankly, it needed to be “fixed” Anet probably won’t post on here from the sheer mob mentality reaction, but there is no logical mental process that could lead you to believe that this event wasn’t a problem.
1. It was causing a dungeon to stay locked.
2. It was causing player conflict between dungeon runners and farmers including open arguments and insults being thrown around.
3. It was extremely profitable for people with high magic find. People in my guild reported an exotic every 10 minutes.
Now, I don’t blame Anet for fixing it, but it does say a whole lot about the problem if players are continuously searching for unusual ways and creative ways to make a buck in open world constantly.
I take solace in Colin’s plan to give Champions lodestone drops etc, however and hope this won’t be an issue in the future.
I run 25/20/0/0/25 for my phantasm mesmer. The last trait-line is debatable, but I really wanted the 12 second phantasms, so I went for it. I run this build wearing glass and do well with it in PvP, WvW, and PvE alike which is why I enjoy it so much since I don’t have to transition my play-style in any scenario as I enjoy doing all 3.
Also as someone had said if you want an all-purpose build it is better not to use warden, but if you are locked into PvE then by all means warden will do well. I often use pistol offhand as it comes in handy in hitting players away from their AoEs as well as bosses doing 5k+ respectively to both of those things.
Edited from grammatical errors.
What we need to do is have “professionals” to play these class scenarios. Not people that are forced into doing it, but people who feel comfortable and enjoy class and mechanics of a build.
Throwing people up against others who have no idea what their doing won’t help much either. It is a confused state of affairs we are in to say the least, and everyone has their own opinions of what is wrong.
I don’t see why people are hating on the medium armor. I previewed it with my current dyes and it looked truly boss with the metallic parts being gold and the leather parts being black.
I personally want more metal on medium armors so the engy can make sense to me when wearing them.
Uh, maybe you don’t realize that the unfairness was purposely done because it was based off The Hunger Games. The fact that it is unfair is part of the enjoyment and hilarity, thus why there are no bonus rewards for being the last one alive.
This game is fine, and even better than the minecraft version IMO.
Yeah, there is a very simple solution to your problem, don’t hit shatter. Shatter also immensely put me off so I have only ever been a phantasm mesmer since I have started back in October.
I run phantasm in pvp, wvw, pve, and enjoy every minute of it. The leveling experience was not enjoyable at all however and I warn you of this.
That is all I can say about this. I looked last week and it was 75ish and now, at some point, It has almost become triple that. Thoughts? Concerns? I am curious.
Yeah, Main-hand pistol is a must. The scepter doesn’t cut it for power builds which is why you see very aggressive Mesmer tactics with one-handed sword. Also, I would love to make dual swords viable, can we make the sword phantasm do blurred frenzy or something?
Why can wars and thieves do crazy fire/poison/bomb arrows, but we can’t? Being a ranger, we should have access to that.
I also have to disagree, if anything, I think they should make more elementally inspired particle armor variety. If you don’t like it then there are plenty of armors without particle effects in the game.
I can see how this would bother an RPer, but I like absurdly extravagant shoulder armor and the like. Although more customization would always be good and I agree with that. It is the phrasing of the title I don’t agree with.
Well Anet doesn’t appear to like open world farmers, but their stance on dungeon farmers seems to be different. Otherwise they would have shut that kitten down immediately and put an “Under Construction” sign at the entrance.
I also thought this was hard as hell. I went to the way-point and a mesmer flagged me down, then ported me to the chest. Hardest day of my life.
mhmm
(edited by Nova.8021)
Yes, I grow tired of his bragging unless he intends to make up for the unfairness that is RNG. I couldn’t care less except for how annoyed I am at this gambling aspect of the game.
I think a developer from Wildstar said it best: From an economic standpoint, I love lotteries because they’d be an extra money sink. The extra money sink means I could reduce the costs of, say, item repair and the economy would remain balanced. However, gambling is not welcome in all regions and can create animosity.
Lol @ mesmers being worst open world PvE class. xD
Interesting results, though. I guessed a couple of them!
Well most people that play mesmer want to do attrition clone builds rather than shatter or phantasm builds. And unfortunately due to ANet having the worst AI programmers in the history of gaming, clones are utterly useless as anything but shatter fodder against most of the games AI.
Dude, did you even play a mesmer? I went glass (like I do with every class) and let me tell you, it was an ordeal. The damage was good but doing the Vigil quests ended in me often getting overwhelmed, at least as a phantasm mesmer. It was so annoying that I just stopped leveling the mesmer in PvE and went 21-80 in WvW alone.
In another universe, there exists this game with a way-point system that would charge the player a fee based on the level of the zone and not the level of the player. The reason why this system is a detriment is as follows:
Irrational fees for transportation when playing in a much lower level zone. (See Irrational Fees continued)
Players are not properly compensated enough to make up for these fees when once again playing in a low level zone. (See Compensation Continued)
(Irrational Fees continued) If the way-point fee is scaled with level then why doesn’t the money I get from filling a gold heart scale as well? I would too often fill a heart to get 2 silver and then immediately click a way-point that cost 2+ silver to remind me of how vain my attempts at profit were.
(See Compensation Continued) The drops are not worthwhile enough to compensate for increased way-point cost to pay for teleport. I mean, if some drops from high-level creatures are arguably mundane, could you imagine surviving off drops from level 5 enemies when you pay at least 1 silver to the nearest way-point? Nope, your player and his/her family would starve to death at that rate unless he did some good ole dungeon farming or TP playing here or there.
Anyway what do you guys think? Should way-point fees scale with level (Like it does now) or be based on the zone that the way-point is located in? Let me know
Ah, I misread the meaning of my own title then. I will fix it
