Will open world PVP servers be considered?

in PvP

Nurse.1085

I’d love an open world PVP server.

Why it’d be fun as hell :

  • No pressure. No objectives, just relaxed good ol’ PVP.
  • Dueling!
  • Guild vs. Guild, even Guild’s on your own home server!
  • No zerging (atleast very minimal)
  • No zerging means no culling
  • No score keeping system
  • You can “guest” to the server, which means no strings attached. Just fun times.
  • You’re not separated by a barrier or a 3 server limiter. Sorry, but fighting the same servers week after week gets stale.
  • Larger maps, which means wondering fun!

But I doubt they would ever add it. WvW is full of zerging, I think an Open World PVP Server would take away from the WvW playerbase because let’s face it, Open World PVP would be more fun and relaxed. Meh, atleast in my opinion. I’d drop WvW like a hot box of rocks if they added an Open world PVP server.

Comfirmed- Nothing being done re: conditions

The issue is big because of PvP. Condition Necro’s and Trap Rangers are a huge part of the meta at the moment. If conditions get buffed and are tracked independently the name of the game will have to change to Condition Wars instead of Guild Wars. All of the sPvP and WvWvW Fights will come down to who can apply the most conditions the fastest.

The best way to handle conditions and it’s effects in MMO was already in place in Guild Wars 1. Why fix something that isn’t broken? I understand they wanted to “innovate” but they literally went backwards in this area.

They could have it to where it’s set up differently between PVE and PVP. In Guild Wars 1, they had plenty of “PVP only skills” so it wouldn’t be too unfamiliar.

They could have it to where the cap is unlimited in PVE/World Events/Dungeons but keep the 25 cap in SPVP/WvW.

Ranger alt. Need some input.

Here’s just my 2 cents on it, this is from a full Berserker PVE perspective.

I feel pretty good about my Glass cannon Ranger in Explorable Dungeons. I pull off 12-16k Rapid Fire Crits and after using #2, #3 and #5 in Longbow, I immediately switch to my Shortbow for it’s auto attack (1000-1600 auto attack damage with Shortbow + bleeding) and swap back to Longbow to rinse and repeat. I can keep my pet alive for 70% of the time in Explorable Dungeons if I micro manage it. Even though I’m one of those “doom and gloom Anet hates Rangers” people, I secretly think I pull my weight pretty well in a EXP Dungeon setting. I don’t compare to a Warrior, but I’m not a dead weight either.

However, in Fractals, I feel like a useless sitting duck with no pet to speak of. Always dead. Always a hindrance. It’s stupid….really, it is.

In WvW, I don’t have much expertise on the situation. I know that it’s suicide to run Berserker in WvW, especially as a Ranger since you lack a lot of escape mechanisms. However, I have found some success with the overly used condition/bunker Ranger. It seems like the only way to go as a Ranger in WvW, but it’s garbage in Dungeons. My favorite weapon sets in WvW is a Shortbow/Torch combo (I swap between 1h Sword and 1h Axe).

Are hardcore players this games worst enemy?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Nurse.1085

I think we have different ideas of what Hardcore means…..I also think there are many definitions to “Hardcore”

I’d consider myself a “hardcore” player by my definition. which would be someone

  • Who devotes a lot of time to gaming / their MMO of choice
  • Complete’s content at an excelled rate in comparison to “casual” or “average” players
  • Enjoy’s challenges and hard content

Let’s get this clear : Even though I consider myself a “hardcore” player, I never wanted a gear grind. I just wanted hard-to-do bosses and better skins/cosmetics. SO the people who say “hardcore players wanted a gear grind” couldn’t be farther from the truth.

I wouldn’t consider GW2 hardcore friendly because :

  • There are no challenges or challenging content. The things I complete are the same things Casual or “Average” players can complete.
  • It’s very gold oriented. Something like a Legendary is bought, which makes it not worthy of being called a Legendary (unless we’re talking about your ingame wallet)
  • Not enough cosmetic prestigious rewards for high risk situations, it feels like a Currency Grind. I wish there were cool cosmetics for people “completing the impossible” such as hard content (that doesn’t currently exist, but if it did!) – I want more cool skins for defeating something hard, that’s all.
  • They try too hard to appeal to Casuals (and I’m sure some casuals will say they try too hard to appeal to Hardcore players), there is little to no content for hardcore players (that isn’t a grind, which I wouldn’t consider hardcore, just annoying) because everyone is equal and a lot of content feels “dumbed down” for a lack of a better word. (IE: Dragons, Dungeons, World Events in general are all very easy and can be done by Zerging).

I wouldn’t consider someone who does nothing but grind money all day as “hardcore”, unless you put the word “farmer” after it.

On another note, I think “Hardcore” players play an important role in Games as much as casuals do. Casual’s come and go, but hardcore players devote a good chunk of their time to playing the game, more-so than a Casual ever would or will. In addition, Hardcore players don’t usually devote themselves to more than one MMO at a time (due to their investments), where as a Casual may be more inclined to jump between MMOs or try new things. Both sides are equally as fussy, angsty and full of complaints – in my opinion. They just complain about different things.

If anything, I think this games worst enemy are the Developers and the higher ups pulling the strings. They should hold their ground more and listen a little bit better.

only 2 people on class balancing?
I guess you guys missed the threat, where anet gave a statement about it being a misunderstanding. They made that statement shortly after that rumor came up.

Oh, it wasn’t a Rumor. Jon 100% said it, clear as day.

And I did miss the thread where they “cleared up the misunderstanding.” But I’m willing to bet it was just to put the fire out and to make the angry mob put their pitchforks and torches away. It’d be bad publicity if people knew the lack of effort going towards balancing.

Judging by past class balance patches (lol because there are none), I’m willing to bet Jon’s original statement was the truth.

But you guys are also missing the other points being made, it isn’t going to just be a matter of unlocking these missions, your guild will also require a significant amount of guild members devoted to doing it, the guild bounty for instance is going to require 10 – 15 players all representing and all online at the same time – for a large or medium active guild, that isn’t a problem. But for all the small guilds, small casual guilds – even medium guilds that are not as active – this spells D O O M for them.

Yeah, this wasn’t thought through enough in my opinion. It seems like they were just focusing on large Guilds and thought “oh, small Guilds won’t mind because they can join in on other people’s Guild missions!”

Im reserving judgement until the patch releases. I think some of you guys are overreacting a wee bit….we don’t know what the requirements for the other types of guild missions are.

That being said, i hope some of the mission types are easier to unlock then guild bounties. I think it would be a bad idea if all guild missions required level 5 in a tech tree. Its fine if some mission types take a while to unlock but some should be easier to unlock. If at least one type isnt fairly easy to unlock(i.e require art of war level 3), then i will be very dissapointed.

Mods already confirmed the existence of one type. “Bounty” and that’s behind the AoW5 wall. No other forms are out at launch. They have to be unlocked after Bounty.. that is.. behind the AoW5 wall..

it was just said the first mission type bounty requires AoW5…i never saw any mods say anything about the other types having to be unlocked after bounty.

http://dragonseason.com/Front/tabid/124/EntryId/210/Lunch-with-Colin-Johanson-Part-I.aspx

Colin: It’s really spread out all over the game and it depends on which type of mission you’re doing. There are actually five completely different types of missions and based on which one it is – bounty hunts, for example, is the really basic one, that’s the one that you can get right off the bat when [February’s] release first goes out. You actually have to unlock all the other missions types, so it’s literally going to take months for your guild to build up enough influence to unlock all of them.

So basically, it’s another grind….
Except a Guild-wide Grind.

Invite as many players as possible…to save up enough influence to unlock Guild Events.

God, this sucks.

The only people being handed anything on a silver platter are the big guilds, IE YOU. The small guilds have to work far harder to gain influence for upgrades. What should have been done is influence costs scaling based on the number of players in the guild. That way the big and small guilds would have to put in the same amount of effort.

BAM!11!!1!!!
That’s the sound the Hammer made when you hit the nail on the head.

On that note, I’m in 2 Guilds. A small 10 man Guild and a Guild with 60+ players on. The 10 man has about 5k influence after saving (for the past few days), the 60+ player guild has OVER 40K.

It’s obviously more efficient to zerg in every aspect of this game. Now guilds.

Guild Missions = Shallow Fluff?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Nurse.1085

I’m excited for the Guild Missions but it seems like more Casual content. I was hoping the Guild Challenges / Bounty Hunt would be more like a “raiding version” for Guilds, but outsiders can jump in so I have a feeling it’ll be just another Zerg.

If that’s the case, then “outsiders” can potentially hinder the event, especially if they lay there dead and scaling the event to be harder so they can leech off of the rewards. I really hope it isn’t like that.

I also wonder how low level players fit into the equation. Is this level 80 content?

Maybe down the line they’ll add harder content for really cool skins, which is what I’ve always wanted but seems they’ll never do. I don’t mean L30+ Fractals hard (because it’s not difficult, all they did was add more mobs and make agony hit harder – It’s a gear check only.). What I mean is actual challenging 3 phase boss mechanics like Giganticus Lupicus, Grenth and Balthazar. We need more bosses like those.

In addition, I wonder how this whole thing will effect small Guilds. I’m in a very small Guild (7 players) and everything on here looks like large scaled events.

Also, I wonder if there’s a way to not have outside non-guildies participating to stop griefing and leechers, especially if Guild Challenges are hard or scale with the number of people around.

- Ranger is the only class that can deal autoattacks from 1500 range and stack 20 vulnerability quickly.

Cept Engineer’s can also hit from 1500 range. Actually, hitting from 1500 range is kind of gimmicky because the arrow and grenade speeds are so slow that people strafe out of the way.

  • Water Staff Elementalist
Example Water Ele Spec : http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fEAQFAWhEmkblR4gjDAkHvYSJjCiUeMzO2A
How to Play it: Swap between attunements often and use your blast finishers to proc your Water Fields for mass AOE healing. Dodge roll to cleanse, heal or to have a free blast finisher to proc in your Water Fields. A tip is to use your #5 in Water and then immediately switch to Earth and use your #2 to proc a Blast Finisher in your Water Field. Your Earth Attunement gives protection, in addition you have an AOE reflect that can be applied to your group that also gives protection. You also have a lot of crowd controls, which also benefits your team.
  • Guardian
    Example Spec : http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fUAQNAS5elcgqC3FSLEm4ES2DRCBTQsHa0HtRXFcIA
(note: You can pretty much use whatever weapon you want except for Scepter, since it’s not a Support weapon. I carry all of the weapons in my bag because they all have a purpose and place. Greatsword #5 is great for pulling in enemies for your group to AOE them but it doesn’t have much else support-wise. Staff is great for #4’s might and healing AOE, Mace/Shield or Mace/Focus is good for general healing/supporting but it’s melee range. Hammer is great for almost 100% uptime on Protection and #2 being a short CD blast finisher)
How to Play it: Tank things with your face.

For both professions, you want to stack Boon Duration and Healing Power.

Um, only roll a Ranger if you want be one of the 3 most broken Professions in GW2.

If you want to be “strong” and “wanted” in both PVE and PVP, go with:
-Warrior
-Thief
-Mesmer
-Elementalist
-Guardian

If you want to be a class with a lot of bugs and in desperate need of rebalancing :
-Engineer
-Necromancer
-Ranger

I wouldn’t worry about nerfs, classes like Warrior’s only see buffs. Warrior’s are by far the strongest PVE class right now, next to the always-wanted and loved-by-many Guardians.

Necro’s, Engineers and Rangers have been broken for 6 months now, I wouldn’t expect many buffs to them anytime soon either. I could be wrong though, I hope I am.

A quick poll re: stomping in PvP.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Nurse.1085

Finishing, especially in World vs World, feels just plain wrong in PVP. It’s great for PVE, but for PVP it feels like the battles are just circle jerks. It’s also a pain in 1v2 or 1v3 situations.

Zergs also get an advantage over small groups because of the downed state. I can’t tell you how many times my group of 5 friends have wiped out many people in a Zerg, only to have them get resurrected by the Zerg again. /facepalms

Some people may argue “it’s also good for small groups!” but think about it like this:

If you’re in a group of 5, going against a group of 15, they can spare 5 people to resurrect 1 person. In fact, they do so rapidly because the more people that resurrect, the faster they’re alive. If someone in your group of 5 dies while up against a group of 15, then the chances of you resurrecting your team mate is very, very slim.

I think that resurrection skills (utilities/elites) should instead be changed to include fully dead people if they were to take out the Downed state in PVP/WvW. That way, you still have a way to resurrect, but you’d need to bring a resurrect skill. In turn, you’d have a higher chance of saving your team mate in small groups instead of almost getting killed yourself trying to resurrect them against a Zerg or not having your Resurrect utility/elite not go off in time before they’re stomped.

Just my 2 cents.

PS I kind of wish they had a static set of downed skills that was shared between all of the professions so it’d be equal. I don’t see a point of professions having different downed skills. For example, everyone’s skills would be :

  • Skill 1 : Auto Attack
  • Skill 2 : AOE Knockback
  • Skill 3 : Escape Mechanic
  • Skill 4 : Help Me!

Had nothing better to do while the servers were down so I went to take a look on the official wiki and at the lists of orr events with the skuls by them, meaning you have to beat champions.

Well, out of all the cursed shore listed less than half have descriptions.
Checking if some of these spawn chests might also be a good place to start since
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/NPC_rank says that “These creatures are very rare to see, they can only be found in dungeon instances or in Ruins of Orr group events and require an organized group and concerted effort to take down. They can be identified by a special purple starburst frame with two crossed swords around their target portrait.”

When I can finally log in I’ll go take a look and see if any of the ones with blank pages are up and get some info.

My money is on it being somewhere in Orr.

That isn’t correct (@ Legendary’s only being in Orr). The boss Taidha Convington in Bloodtide Coast is a Legendary.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/The_Campaign_Against_Taidha_Covington

She’s one of the few Legendary’s that have a “chance” at triggering, making her unique/rare. In addition, the treasure chest is a large one.

But yeah, I think that’s what they meant when they said it was a “rare boss” or a “unique boss” was that it was a Legendary, not a Champion. Just a guess though.

I’ve been trying to do it off an on the past week or two and it keeps “bugging” out at the point where the Lionguard are supposed to attack(you go downstairs, kill the risen boss and all the mobs, but it doesn’t trigger anything afterwards).

I tried guesting on a few other servers and it was the same there(risen boss is killed, NPCs show up, stand around in the camp outside, then disappear and the risen boss in the bottom spawns again).

I’m in that area quite often, but I’ve honestly only seen that event properly working once, and that was RIGHT at the beginning of launch. Other than that, there has either not been enough people to even kill the risen boss or the event has been bugged.

If someone has a server with this working let me know and I’ll guest over there an try it out.

It’s working on Tarnished Coast.

That’s what makes this event so rare, it only has a random chance of triggering the meta event to kill Taidha Covington. You need to keep Lionguard Jenny alive, she’s the merchant at the Covington Keep near the skill point. If she’s not alive when you defeat the Champion, the meta event will NOT start no matter what. So, 1 person needs to guard Jenny while the other group of people kill the Champion. If you see Jenny, Bill and Hekja leave the island then you know the meta is starting.

Most people don’t know that though, you won’t be starting the meta event with out Jenny because Jenny leads you to the Taidha Covington event.

Yeah, add me to the list of people who think it is Taidha. First of all, it is a huge PITA to do, one person has to guard an NPC while a second large group has to kill a really tough champion boss. Doing all that gives you a CHANCE for the event to advance. There is no reason for level 80’s to even be in the zone and I have never once seen the event happen until yesterday.

Just curious, are you on Tarnished Coast?

“Aurora’s Remains” is a fairly hidden area in Brisban Wildlands and there is an event to kill a ghost witch spawns an chest. Possible candidate?

Event: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Draw_out_and_destroy_the_Demagogue%27s_spirit

This has been mentioned before, and I was actually going to post it again(after re-reading the latest dev input on the subject) because I think this might be the place.
-The event is fairly out of the way
-I know for a fact that not many people have done it(at least done it on a regular basis)
-The chest itself was bugged on some servers near launch, thus potentially discouraging people from going back again
-The event has a direct link to GW1
-It has a “boss”(from GW1)
-It drops a chest

It only spawns a small Splended chest that can only be opened once in awhile, which contradicts what a Dev previously said. I solo’d the event twice yesterday and it could only be opened once. It looks good on paper, but I don’t think this is it (personally).

It is super obscure though, but maybe too obscure. Haha, when I signed on and went to the area, I did find some people e-RPing. >.> Was interesting to say the least.

/EDIT
I attached a screenie of some of the text that I thought was interesting. It’d be a really good candidate if the chest wasn’t a small splended one.

Final Rest - Current Theories

Nurse.1085

Not to super analyze or anything, but this is my logic :

Quotes from Devs
(I highlighted the important parts)

“It’s a Unique spawn with its own event.”

“From following the big post on the subject, I’ve seen some posts that have correctly identified the specific event/boss, but as I said, I don’t believe that it has been completed enough times to expect it to have produced Final Rest. And it’s closer to .0005%”

Specifically, there’s an event that involves the killing of a boss. (No comment on level/type of the boss.) Succeeding at the event will spawn a chest, which has a miniscule chance of dropping Final Rest. Again, running the event once, twice, or even a hundred times means very little – from looking at the drop chance, you’d have to run the event thousands of times and hope that the RNG smiles upon you.”

It’s from the open world

Drops from a “Large” boss chest

So, I personally concluded that

  • 1. He says “he doesn’t think it’s been completed enough times” which tells me that it’s not a popular event, such as dragons or places where 80s like to roam around. Places like Shadow Behemoth (even though it’s only been working for 3 months) have had precursors drop already and 30+ people farm it everyday on cooldown all day. What are the chances then, since the 3 month passing point?
  • 2. It rules out Mini Dungeons because he says “An event that involves killing of a boss and spawning a chest after the event is over” – Mini Dungeons have visual chests spawned before the boss is killed (atleast in Flame Tombs and the chest spawned outside his door is a small chest) and are not considered true events. In addition, this rules out events with Splended Chests or Chests that are already spawned prior to completing the event.
  • 3. The event includes a “boss” so anything less than a Champion is probably not it. I’d say that it most likely comes from a Legendary Boss (purple ring) more-so than a Champion (yellow ring). Where do Champion’s stand in the “boss” department?
  • 4. He says that some people have guessed correctly. This could be super-analyzing, but some of the most popular and overly exhausted theories would be Shadow Behemoth and Catacombs. If I were him and it was either of those, I’d probably say “a lot of people have guessed correctly” or “quite a few people have guessed correctly”, not “some” ; I would think “some” would mean it’s not a super popular theory, but rather one that’s been thrown out here and there. A “medium” level of popularity between a once or twice mentioned theory and the oldest theory since launch.
  • 5. It comes from a Large chest (or Large Boss, depending on how you read it). Though, I personally think she meant a Large Chest just in size but not necessarily loot quality.
  • 6. The boss should be “unique” and have it’s own event leading up to that point. I don’t think killing a Champion Risen would count as a “unique spawn”. To me, a unique spawn would be a named boss (Champion or Legendary, I’m leaning towards Legendary) with it’s own event chain leading up to that boss.

Basically, that’s why I think it’s one of the events that I stated before. I honestly think it’s going to come from a Legendary Boss rather than a Champion. In addition, it’s probably one of the lesser of the overrated theories and the chest rewarded should be large in size and spawned after defeating the boss/event (or atleast gained access to after the battle is over).

I also don’t know if the Staff actually has anything to do with lore either, if it’s even intended to have anything to do with Gargoyles, Tombs, Ascalon or anything like that – If you look at other named weapons, some of them have nothing to do with their name or their appearance. Ruling out something because it isn’t undead, death, graves/tombs, necromancer-ish, ascalon background or anything along those lines feels like maybe this is another reason why no one has found it? -shrugs- Maybe it’s something less obvious.

/wall of text

TLDR ; Keep any open mind to the less “obvious” events that don’t necessarily tie to the lore of obvious Gargoyles, death and Ascalon. I think it comes from a Legendary Boss, not a Champion. Legendary bosses are considered unqiue, rare spawns.

LIST OF ALL SUGGESTIONS IN THIS POST
I only included the ones with a confirmed chest.

May have forgotten some, I’m still combing through the posts.

I went through my list again. I did most of the Events again today and I’ve concluded (in my opinion) that it can’t be from a Mini Dungeon. It won’t be from a Splended Chest either, since they’re small and common.

My best guesses would be most likely any of these (listed from rarest to most common imo) :

  • Taidha Covington
  • Fire Elemental
  • Megadestroyer
  • Zho’qafa Catacombs
  • Shadow Behemoth (Most common, farmed on average)

Taidha Covington was a ghost town, even on Tarnished Coast. The people who did show up weren’t even 80. As a result, it technically has the best setup for a rare event that’s hardly exposed to level 80s. It has no “dragon timers” and there’s nothing for 80s in Bloodtide Coast, so not many people pass by.

Just a quick note—I said the odds of it dropping was closer to .005 than the 1 in a million or so that was tossed out. Those aren’t the exact odds, but if my math is correct, 10 players running the event every day might expect one staff to drop after about 7 months. (And we haven’t been out that long.)

Can you give us a hint if it’s connected to lore or if the Gargoyle has any significant meaning to the event/it? Or would that be asking for too much?

Anyone else notice that in this screen shot:

He says :

I don’t believe that it has been completed enough times to expect it to have produced Final Rest

It’s a unique spawn with its own event

Does that mean that we can rule out super popular Events? I mean, if he thinks that super popular events haven’t been farmed enough for it to drop, then we’re doomed.

They were messages.
I don’t believe they show the logo when they’re private messages.

I am to lazy to look threw all the posts to see if anyone put it up as an idea but what about the bosses in WvW that everyone has forgotten about? Personally I have only done one and thats the giant forest grub and it drops a huge chest. There are many other bosses as well threw out EB that would take sometime to kill esp with another server swooping in. Champs and Legends. Just another thought that i think should be farmed.

A Dev confirmed that someone has already guessed the right event, so no new theories are necessary.

https://dviw3bl0enbyw.cloudfront.net/uploads/forum_attachment/file/47952/Screen_Shot_2013-02-19_at_20.58.20.png

This means that several people have thrown out the correct theory. But after I went through 13 pages, I can tell that a lot of people have discussed a lot of those theories, so it doesn’t narrow it down all that much.

Okay, after 13 pages I think that’s all of the events that have been suggested that have a some kind of chest reward.

Can a Dev confirm that it’s somewhere on the list? (Wishful thinking lol)

You can ditch Keeper Jones, that’s the grenth event and it’s farmed a LOT as well as Balthazar. I doubt it’s catacombs IMO.

Large boss and Large Chest pretty much narrows this list down a ton.

Yeah, I’m just listing all the possibilities that were listed in this thread since the Dev said “Someone/People have found the right event/chain/boss somewhere in this thread.” So I’m gathering up all the possibilities that dropped chests.

Ok some good news eventually!!! I think the disheartenment in a few of the posts after my response had a knock on effect, topped with my QQ PM to him, xD sorry Jeffrey, had to find out someway or another ;-)

Now we have a confirmed location! we just have to decipher which one! from all of the posts!! have a read!!!!

So one of the posts in this thread is the correct location and event?

Since the beginning of the post (the topic creator) had a list of events, does that mean that it is NOT ANY of those? Since if you read what he says, he says “some posts have correctly identified the event/boss

/EDIT
Err, nevermind. I guess it could be anything that was said here, which includes the OP’s suggestions.

Level cap increase past 80? Y/N

Firmly on the “No” side. Perhaps the only time we may find ourselves in agreement! <3

I have a feeling ArenaNet might take this one to heart. I certainly could be wrong though.

I really hope they take into consideration this poll and player feedback before they decide on raising the cap. I don’t think I know a single person who wants the cap raised.

The only reason this worries me is because in the past, I believe they said that raising the cap is a very high probability. I hope they go back on their word with this one.

I heard there will be an Expansion at the end of the year.
I hope they add more level 80 content and NOT raise the level cap.
There’s plenty of ways of adding expansions worth of stuff with out raising the cap. New skills/elites/weapon sets for example!

Please, 80 is high enough. Do NOT raise the cap!!! Level 85/95/100 is just too much and very intimidating to new players. Maybe if the original level cap was 50 or something, but since it’s so high from the start, it should not be raised higher.

They’d also be making a commitment to raise the level cap every expansion since their first expansion will be setting the standard bar for future expansions.

I say we cannot rule out the common large events, specially in light of a bug being found with the qualifying of loot, which could of been blocking the dropping of Final Rest from its chest. Something along of the lines of “Yes you can have loot, but you do not qualify for anything more than ….”.

Yeah, which is why I decided I’ll search more once the loot bug is fixed. No one knows if it’s interfering with Final Rest or not.

Though honestly, I hope it’s because Final Rest is so rare and not because of a coding error. That’d make us all look silly, wouldn’t it? lol.

Interview About Ranger Pets

in Ranger

Nurse.1085

Only issue pets have is unable to hit moving foes (Melee ones aswell as ranged)

And F2 u spam it and it does not work goes into cooldown and epic fail

I wish those were the only issues, but there are several

  • The long cast time of a pet’s F2 doesn’t work well in combat, especially in PVPing circumstances. They should be instant or be able to cast while moving. By the time my F2 usually goes off (depending on the type of pet), they are out of range of it. It also feels clunky.
  • Response time of using F2 is poor
  • Response time of using F1 and F3 is also poor
  • Pet’s have no “permanent stow” option so they stand there and die in WvW.
  • Pet’s have no way of dodging when you dodge, thus lowing their survivability and lowers their chances of getting out of sticky situations.
  • Besides Bears, pet’s die far too easily. They have no reduction to AOE damage, which is a huge problem in WvW and Fractals.
  • They die instantly in Fractals because they do not share the Ranger’s Agony Resistance.
  • When your pet dies, the swap time goes from 20 seconds to 60 seconds. You need fast swap times in order for your pet to even survive in PVP/WvW/Dungeons, so if one of your pets die, your other pet is probably screwed because he can’t be recalled or saved for 60 more seconds. Pressing F3 doesn’t help, since his pathing AI is wonky and he has no disregard for AOEs on his way back.
  • Can’t hit moving targets
  • No way to revive your pet once he dies besides waiting 60 seconds
  • Can’t rename your pets
  • Boss mechanics treat your Pet as if it were a player, so boss mechanics like Giganticus Lupicus in Arah and Jade Maw in Fractals screw you over no matter what.

/deep breath
I think small changes like a permanent stow option (so your pet doesn’t die in WvW/Keeps) and an AOE damage reduction would go a long way for Pets. Not to mention if they added a “Distortion” (Evade) buff to your pet everytime you dodged, it would also increase their survivability rate.

Something that is an attachment to a Profession shouldn’t feel like a burden.

Rangers for Dungeons

in Ranger

Posted by: Nurse.1085

Nurse.1085

Here’s the run down :

  • Your pet will be dead a lot in Fractals, which is the “top dungeon” right now because of Ascended Gear. Your pet shouldn’t have too hard of a time surviving in EXP Dungeons if you’re good about controlling/swapping them (this isn’t always the case though, some mechanics just screw you over no matter what). However, in Fractals, your pet is dead almost 100% of the time. There’s no saving it, either.
  • Ranger’s, in theory, would be a good “Support” class if they could actually use their Spirits (not as suicide bombers). They’re dead in a single hit, a single sneeze, a single hiccup. So, Supporting as a Ranger is out of the question as far as I know. (FOR THE RECORD, when I say “Supporting” I mean like a Guardian or Elementalist. You just can’t.)
  • They have pretty good DPS. They’re not the best though and they’re on the “lower side” between all of the Professions (and in my opinion, NOT the lowest in PVE). Their DPS is only “pretty good” when their Pet is alive (hence why this can be a less desirable class to have in Fractals). Compared to a Greatsword Warrior, your DPS is laughable at best, BUT this goes for all of the Professions. Greatsword Warrior’s are just the God’s of PVE right now, especially when teamed with a Mesmer.
  • You have good utilities that will help “support” your team, such as your Elite Nature of Spirit. I’ve saved many lives in Fractals when I correctly use this Elite. It’s a beautiful Elite in Dungeons, for sure. Your “Healing Spring” is also a very good 15 second Water field / condition removal / potential vigor supplier. These are your highlighting points.
  • A lot of players “dislike” Rangers, their problems are widely known so you won’t be the “top pick” on the List of Professions unless you’re a Guardian, Warrior, Mesmer or Elementalist. Be prepared to be turned down or overlooked because of your class if you’re in competition with other Professions (but this doesn’t always happen, though I have heard of it being an issue).

I’ve leveled a Thief. I’ve PVE’d with both a Ranger and a Thief to Level 25+ Fractals. This is how I feel about it :

  • Thief is by far the better DPS. They also have the better and more dependable Resurrection skill (Shadow Refuge).
  • Ranger’s have the better Downed skills
  • Ranger’s have the better “unique Resurrection” – Your “Search and Rescue” can resurect people in Lava and other awkward-hard-to-reach places. However, Search and Rescue doesn’t always work. It’s buggy and fickle. Not to mention it won’t work when your Pet is dead, which is why it’s also unreliable.
  • Ranger is the easier of the two classes. I have a better time surviving and being out of harm’s way on my Ranger than I do on my Thief.
  • Thief is squishier than a Ranger
  • Ranger has better “long ranged” options (in my opinion) if you spec for 1500 range, you can out range most boss mechanics.
  • Ranger has better single target damage with their Bows
  • Thieves have better single target damage with their Melee
  • Thieves have better AOE damage with their Short bow
  • Rangers still have very good AOE damage with their Traps / Longbow #5 / Piercing Arrows
  • Thieves do not have to deal with a terrible Pet AI / The frustrations of dealing with a Dead Pet and having it gimp their overall DPS.

So, even though I hate how “gimped” my Ranger is because of our lackluster Pet AI and our pet’s inability to live through Agony, I still prefer my Ranger over my Thief in Dungeons.

When it comes to PVP though, I prefer my Thief. Though, I do have a good time playing a Bunker/Trap Ranger as well, simply because I’m so tanky.

Just to say, for the record, I think once Ranger’s get their fixes/buffs they will undoubtedly be a very strong Dungeon Profession. You just need to have patience and when I say patience, I mean be prepared to wait a year.

so basically improving pet AI was compared to being a crazy super powered warrior (the most oped class already) with 2 great swords?

Yeah, pretty much. I don’t think he knew how to handle/answer the question. Getting a class mechanic to work isn’t exactly on the same level as “I want to be overpowered!”

The Question : Are there any plans to improve Ranger Pets and the Necromancer’s AI?

We are always looking at the balance and the systems of our Professions and we alter it as necessary. Everyone has an idea of how they would like their class to be super powerful. Warrior’s saying how they want to dual wield Greatswords, etc…Everyone wanted something crazy. But we have a keen eye on all of the different professions and we have seen a lot of questions regarding Ranger Pets and like everything else we’ll be looking into it.

Final Rest - Current Theories

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Nurse.1085

I just wanted to throw this out there

Though, it has nothing to do with a Gargoyle Scythe-shaped Staff, it is a ‘rare event’ with ‘rare’ bosses’ that can potentially happen throughout several different zones and areas. The more people that are there, the more “Modus Sceleris” Guild members participate (atleast in the particular area that I found them in.)

There’s also a Necromancer Guild Member that can ambush players throughout the zones.

It does reward a Chest at the end with a unique name of “Modus Sceleris’ Supplies” – I confirmed it today. I do not know if the loot scales the more people that are present, considering it’s unique mechanic, I only did it with one other person (thus only facing 2 of the Modus Sceleris Guild members).

When it was over, the “Modus Sceleris” Guild walked through a portal and relocated elsewhere (I’m assuming).

Meh, probably a dead end though.

/EDIT
I also tried finding other “rare spawned” events but most of them have been changed since Beta.
