Nevermind, Battle for Ascalon drops no chest at all

In addition, only a Splended Chest drops from Battle in the Vault

I’m interested in the unique chests from the starter zone bosses after hearing about Wisteria from the wurm in Caledon. If that chest has a unique exotic, why not the other starter zone bosses?

I also find the different event chains at night to be interesting. That’s a good thing to look into.

Hmm, maybe!

Neither of those. They have both been looted millions of times (individually speaking).

Have you ever looted a Precursor or any other super rare item not during a Lost Shore Event?

There’s not a lot of Precursor’s on the Trading Post. I’m guessing the drop rate of Final Rest is even rarer than a Precursor.

Not to mention someone could have gotten it and not even know what it means.

A lot of theories have been exhausted, tried and failed.

This is a relatively unknown/completed event from what I understand. It fits with the catacombs/“final resting place” theme:

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Flame_Temple_Tombs

Just a thought. The chest is individually named apparently.

It’s a Grand Chest

I just did it, it’s a really good theory actually. Not a lot of people do it and it’s a “mini dungeon” that still holds its “open world” element since everyone can jump right in without a party. – However I wonder if it has any chance of dropping there because it’s a low level area. Even if it has loot scaling, what are the chances that it’s flagged for that chest for a level 80 to get?

Or maybe that’s the brilliance of it all, it’s rare because (besides its obviously low drop rate) not many maxed level characters go there and since Final Rest is a level 80 weapon, lower leveled characters don’t even stand a chance of getting it (since the loot from chests are scaled).

Oh the mind games. T.T

Anyone else thinks it’s something as simple as Grenth or Balthazar?

I’ve been doing research on the two and they both show signs of relating to a Gargoyle Skinned Scyth / Staff.

  • Grenth : Gargoyle’s in Guild Wars 1 had a higher resistance to Lightning and Cold Damage, in addition they were used in the dark ages as a “representation of evil” and “reminding people that the end of days is near.” This ties into Grenth because he is the God of darkness, ice and death. In addition, Grenth stole Dhuum’s powers. Dhuum was pictured with a Scythe and he was an “Cruel and Unjust God of Death.” It was said he hunted down all those who escaped death which ties into the Gargoyle’s being a “reminder to people that the end of days is near”.
  • Balthazar : One of Balthazar’s titles is “He That Shows Us The FINAL Truth”. In addition, Scythe Dervishes from Guild Wars 1 show their patronage to Balthazar. Another fun fact is that some think Balthazar is another representation of the Biblical Magi (Three Wise Men / Three Kings). This is interesting because if you look up The Legend of La Gargouille you’ll see that La Gargouille is said to have been the typical dragon with batlike wings that ties to the Church/Religion reference of the Three Kings. In addition, 3 of the Gods (Balthazar, Melandru & Dwayna) made their home in Orr (Three Kings?) but that really has nothing to do with this lol.

I’m leaning more towards Grenth, since that makes more sense. Maybe it’s just bad RNG or whatever. It’s the best I could come up with after researching for an hour.

:p Sorry if it’s been said before.

It looked Epic, but it didn’t feel Epic.

That make sense? I admired the art and the beauty of it all, the chaos and the way Zhaitan held on to the tower. However, when it came down to it, you didn’t really do anything “epic” with your character.

I was expecting an intense and mechanically interesting fight. Nope. Ships and cannons all the way. He looked like a pansy.

I could probably think of half a dozen more interesting ways for it to have “ended”, but I guess it’s all subjective.

Post 80: my opinion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Nurse.1085

I had your problem OP.
I hit 80 and got my gear within a few days. I looked around and thought “Now what? 0__o”

In other MMOs, I’d dedicate a lot of time to Raiding and completing hard content, doing Dungeons, playing Battlegrounds, doing Group oriented content, search/camp for Rare items and cosmetics, work on gearing my character and so forth. Everything felt meaningful, everything I did was working towards a better Character.

But for some reason, I was having a hard time finding what to do in Guild Wars 2 at max level. To be honest, I think one of the main reasons is because it’s not laid out in front of you like a Traditional MMO. In addition, some of the things I enjoyed in Traditional MMOs, I do not enjoy in Guild Wars 2. For example, Battlegrounds/Scenarios/PVP. I don’t enjoy Structured and WvW is far too zergy. I still do WvW a lot, every day in fact, but it pales in comparison to DOAC and Warhammer (to the point where it’s painfully obvious). Lastly, GW2 is a “cosmetic game” but it lacks a variety of cosmetics. A lot of the “cool cosmetics” cost hundreds to housands of gold. On top of that, not a single “cool cosmetic” requires any type of Skill shown by the Player. Not my idea of a good time.

So, to answer your question

  • Make Alts (I have 5 80s and working on my 6th. I get bored.)
  • WvW
  • Structured
  • Map Completion
  • Fractals
  • Get the “Dungeon Master” Achievement
  • Achievement farming in general.
  • Farm
  • Farm more……
  • Do your Daily/Monthly
  • Role play (if you’re into that)
  • Jumping Puzzles
  • Put together new outfits
  • Farm more money for Cultural Tier 3
  • Join a Guild (a good sociable Guild with an active tight knit community that hosts Events)

Yeah, that’s the best I can offer. Guild Wars 2 is pretty much a casual game to be honest. Sign on, play, sign off. No commitments, strings, requirements or anything of that nature. As such, it’s content is Casual. “Everything is end game” and “There is no end game” means hitting 80 isn’t all that important, it just opens more windows. Atleast that’s the theory.

Hearts not enough xp?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Nurse.1085

Nurse.1085

I think heart exp should be waaaayyy bigger. Potentially double. Because right now it’s twice as effective to pretty much just ignore them and explore and do events. It should be an option – ignoring them should be viable in terms of levelling speed, but you shouldn’t be punished for stopping to do a heart.

Not like “balance” in levelling matters though, leveling isn’t difficult and if it was everyone would just make a 5 sig war.

Mm, I guess I’ll have to disagree. Hearts give a good chunk of EXP and you’re not punished for doing them. They unlock gear, cooking mats, accessories and so forth that can be used for leveling. In addition, the selling point of Guild Wars 2 was their Dynamic Events and lack of “questing system”, so it’s obvious why there’s a discouragement to just jumping from Heart to Heart. They wouldn’t want you to ignore the Dynamic Event because a Heart gave more EXP; that’d ruin the immersion. Also, completing Hearts and other parts of the map lead to a bigger goal : Zone Completion rewards, money and EXP. It all flows together pretty nicely if you don’t try skipping over content.

I’ve never felt punished for skipping over a Heart to do a Dynamic Event, I always just go back to the Heart after I’m finished. It’s even better when there’s an Event going on that counts for the Heart. ^__^

Hearts not enough xp?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Nurse.1085

Here’s just some tips. I’ve leveled 5 80s lol so I know my way around.

  • Do map completion, atleast while starting out. Do all the hearts, POIs, Vista’s, Waypoints and Skill Points.
  • You don’t have to do your Story Quest, but if you don’t, you’ll have to do a little bit of a different zone. It’s better to just stay up to date with it, atleast until you’re level 15.
  • Do World Events over Hearts. Heart’s are static quests, Dynamic World Events come and go and are temporary.
  • Take up Cooking as a first Profession. It’s an easy 10 levels, I suggest using a guide (http://www.gw2wiz.com) so you don’t waste money or mats on inefficient leveling.
  • Here is a map of all the locations, POIs, Vistas, Waypoints, Skillpoints and everything for all of the zones. It also includes the levels of each zone : http://gw2cartographers.com/
  • Most Important!! Guest on the server “Tarnished Coast” – There’s always tons of people everywhere in every zone.

Hope that helps!

so why can’t i get these from wvw? 3 months and counting….

you are getting update to WvW in a week…

Ascended gear has no place in WvW… who’s gonna cast agony? Really?

The WvW update was pushed back to March.

In addition, if you haven’t noticed, there are new “Infusion” slots that give you + stats (+Healing, Power, Crit, 20% Magic Find, 20% Gold from Mobs, etc) that you can slot into the Ascended gear now. They’re equivalent to “Jewelcrafting Gems” from World of Warcraft that you slot into your gear on top of the bonus stats they already give you over Exotics + Exquisite Jewels.

Thus, it’s literally an upgraded piece for all aspects of the game. Not just Fractals.

Guild Missions - revealed!

Its interesting that people not of the guild can get some kind of reward (hopefully other than normal event rewards) for doing the guild missions. My only fear is that, how are people not in the guild (and not in the specific map), going to know about these guild missions? (other than someone spamming it in LA/capitals)

Maybe there will be a symbol on the map. For example, how you can see Commander icons or the Sword icon’s in WvW when there’s PVP.

Just make a new icon for Guild Events to show up on the map.

I normally don’t go to this side of the forums since I don’t personally enjoy Spvp, but I thought I’d give my reasons here.

First: My friends and Guild are usually “hardcore” Pvpers in most MMOs. I also greatly enjoy PVPing. However, we rarely touch Spvp for a few reasons. These are mine :

  • No Incentive
  • The Mists feels too detached from my character, if that makes sense? I feel like the character I leveled and geared is my real character, and doing Structured does nothing for my “real character” other than make me look prettier when I port to the Mists. I spent a lot of time and gold on my character, so it’s disheartening to port to the Mists and see that I have to start from scratch again.
  • I also find The Mists to be gloomy and too close-quarters to “hang out” in. I wish I could queue from anywhere in the world, not just The Mists.
  • Hot joins are a hot mess.
  • Auto balancing
  • No punishment for people who leave
  • Being constantly rotated with the same set of people. I wish when one map ended, it ended. That way people can leave with out screwing the group over temporarily and you’d be placed with new people.
  • Too many of certain classes, also too much favoring of certain classes.
  • Class Balance issues and obvious imbalance
  • Too many “stand on this point” maps and “bunkers”
  • Underwater combat. Boring maps with overly used objectives. No variety.
  • No ladders or anything special to aim for.
  • You don’t earn EXP, so people who are leveling and like to casually PVP have no reason to do Structured over WvW.

Yeah, that’s about it I think.

/EDIT
It feels like Structured is Alienated from the rest of Guild Wars 2. You’re like the unloved step child and no one wants to play with you. Devs throw new maps at you, but you have deeper and more important issues that needs attention; not just new maps. There’s no gain or incentive, it’s also not easy for new players to learn, especially if they came from a Traditional MMO and not GW1.

Class Balance & Fixes

Yeah, I play a Ranger and a Necro. It was probably my mistake for leveling those classes, but I’m always so eager during patch day. Every single time I’m let down by across-the-board changes (ie: 25% Speed Signet), Aquatic updates or Tooltip error fixes. Nothing major that will improve my quality of life for my Ranger/Necro. Though I won’t deny the few baby steps they’ve made deserve credit.

I’m really curious on Anet’s stand and thought process on these things. To me, class balance/fixes are the most important and the most fragile part of MMOs. It’s the glue that holds PVP and PVE together and it’s obvious some classes and builds are strongly favored over others. That’s just my opinion anyways.

The baby steps are fine, but after 6 months I’m starting to wonder if it’ll only be baby steps.

If not, when can we expect more “major” class balancing and fixes? When I say “major”, I mean fixes/balancing that’ll majorly improve or effect Professions and their quality of life; such as Pets, Weapon buffs/nerfs, Trait fixes/improvements, etc.

I think everyone needs a little something, but some Professions need a lot more than others (*cough*EngineerRangerNecro*cough*)

Guild wars 2 ruined all other mmo's

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I think game’s like WoW offer things GW2 can’t, which is more “challenging” content/Raids and a Trinity system. Yes, believe it or not, some people like the Trinity system (as a past Healer, I’m not going to lie, I miss it a lot in PVP). So, in order to fulfill those needs that GW2 can not give, you have to take the good with the bad when playing Traditional MMOs.

Personally, I love the art style of GW2, the graphics, no competition for gathering, no competition for mob tagging, the fast gameplay and all of that. But I miss things from Traditional MMOs too, like Raids (not gear progression, but Raiding with 10 to 25 friends/guild), I miss the Trinity in group PVP fights (I loved it in Warhammer) and I miss the feeling of progression (but not necessarily gear progression).

Will I go back to a Traditional MMO? I tried. I played Rift for a bit, which is a very good MMO in my opinion. It had a lot of creative and fun ideas (such as their “Adventure” system) that GW2 could take a page out of. However, in the end, I couldn’t reach cap level because I didn’t want to stare at a quest log anymore past L50. I tried WoW again too at some point, I uninstalled it after 10 minutes of “wow, this is not what I remember” and “Oh my god, have these graphics always been this bad?”.

Then again, I always enjoyed The Secret World. The story and gameplay, in my opinion, blew Guild Wars 2’s out of the water. It was a dark, beautiful MMO. However it’s subscription ruined it for me, which is a shame. I prefer more “fantasy” type games anyways.

Ranger No stealth - Detect stealth skill?

in Ranger

Nurse.1085

@Kasama
Fact is, both classes have stealth. Both classes have mass invisibilities, thus stealthing other unstealthable classes. So in regard to the OP’s argument, it wouldn’t be just an “anti thief” skill, since it was a generalization of all classes who have access to stealth, whether or not their stealth is overpowered. Which was all I was insinuating.

In fact, a Ranger anti stealth skill would be a counter to another Ranger’s camouflage, if both of the OP’s suggestions were added.

But don’t worry about it, Anet wouldn’t do anything like this because Ranger’s are Beast Masters, not actual Hunters, Rangers or Scouts.

There should be a third option for the people who don’t want to farm 660 gold or flush their money into the Mystic Toilet. Don’t make the 3rd option an easy task, of course. No one’s asking for hand outs. I just think there could have been a more enjoyable, in-depth and more meaningful way Precursor’s could have been handled rather than it’s current shallow grind for money.

As it is right now, it’s a waste of time and money to try and get it by gambling in the Mystic Toilet. Save your pennies and hope by the time you save 600 gold, the price hasn’t sky rocketed to 900 gold instead.

you can buy a max amount of 3000 gems monthly. Anet limits how much gems you can get. With the current gem to gold rate it’s about 30 gold. What will you do exactly with 30 gold a month?

Um. One of the purchasing options is 4000 gems for $50 USD. That’s more than 3000, and you can purchase 4000 gems multiple times in a month. Not sure where you got your info, but it’s not correct.

purchased a card of 2000 and couldn’t purchase one for my boyfriend, because I got a message stating that I exceeded monthly gem limit. So it’s limited to 1 card I suppose.

That’s a limit on your card then or your area. I’ve purchased (4000) $50 worth of gems for myself and $50 worth of gems for my Husband using the same card 2 minutes later. There is no limit as far as I can tell, and if there is, it’s more than 8000 gems.

In fights having to use f3 doesn’t always work. Once again, in CoE the whole floor is aoe circles, walking away from the boss does nothing to protect your pet.

Speaking of which, the pet should be smart enough not to walk through red circles when following you, returning to you, or heading out to attack a target.

No offense to Anet, but that’d be way too complicated for them. It also seems potentially messy and too awkward/situational to code imo. We’ll be lucky if our pets can ever hit moving targets, let alone recognize danger.

An easier fix would be to tack on a Distortion buff onto the pet when the Ranger dodges. We have tons of Endurance regeneration anyways.

I like this idea. Maul always feels like it should be a Blast finisher; It would also open up a World of more possibilities. I mean, you are smashing a giant bear on their face. (Guardian #2 on Hammer is a “soft leap” and Blast finisher on a 5 sec CD).

In addition, as a second condition, I could totally see Weakness being added somewhere on the Greatsword (maybe on the auto attack for a cleave 1-2s Weakness?)

To me, that would make the Greatsword feel more “complete” if they didn’t want it to be a “DPS” weapon.

I could see a very fun and viable Greatsword + Spirit “support/tank” build if Spirit’s had more survivability. Gah! Now I want this. :[

Why are Dungeons ok, but Raids not?

It’d be cool if Dungeons (Explorable) could be scaled based on how many players are involved.

  • Scaling Example : 2 Player EXP Arah / 5 player EXP Arah / 8 Player EXP Arah / 12 Player EXP Arah
  • Dungeon difficulty and rewards will scale based on the number of players. 12 Player EXP Arah will be the hardest (with more rewards), while 2 Player EXP Arah will be the easiest (with the least rewards).

Something like that would be pretty cool in my opinion. It’s not necessarily “Raids” but it’d give people/Guilds things to do in larger groups.

The "Inspect Gear" Discussion.

Yes

  • I want to check if they’re wearing MF gear in a L20+ Fractal.
  • I want to check how much Agony resistance they really have.

Would I use this feature to judge other player’s? : No.
Would I use this feature to kick player’s if they didn’t use the “most optimal” gear?: No.

Why not? : Because I’m more curious as to where that person is in terms of gear level. I want to know if I’m running with a MF leecher, a guy with 0 resistance, a glass cannon Thief in all Greens, etc. If you’re a good player who’s honest, you have nothing to worry about.

If anything, I think an Inspection option would encourage more honesty about your character and your intentions (ie: getting carried, you want more fat lewt, etc).

PS: Inspecting someone’s gear does not include inspecting their Traits/Spec. I don’t believe the OP said anything about Trait inspecting? He only mentioned Gear Inspecting. Not sure where everyone is going with “ermahgawd he’s going to judge my build!” – As far as I’m concerned, your “build” would consist of both gear setup and trait setup.

Frustration (precursors)

They need to make it so Precursor’s are earned by completing a long Quest chain or a Scavenger hunt. Put some story into it.

Having to save up 500+ gold is ridiculous. Right now, Dusk is 665 gold.

That’s not okay. Saying “Leave it to the RNG Gods, someday you’ll get it” is the same as saying “Give up, it’s not worth it bro”. Which, honestly, it’s not. Not 665 gold. I’ll dish out 665 gold when that Legendary can dance, fold my laundry and rub my shoulders. Actually…even then I wouldn’t.

What do you really want?

I did not like how much money and reputation went into getting “cool cosmetic sets” in GW1. Sometime’s it felt more about how much money you had more than anything. I felt like I was grinding more in GW1 than I am in GW2 in that regard.

I like GW2’s system better (how it’s earned through Dungeons, etc), but I believe they messed up with Fractals. Ascended would be better if people had a variety ways of earning it, rather than just Fractals and dailies. I don’t believe it should be sold on the TP though, to stop the inflation of gear like Exotics. It should be earned personally to make it less about money and grinding money.

What I want : I wish GW2 had as many nice looking cosmetic options as GW1. Even as a “hardcore” player (someone who plays a lot, a devoted “Raider” in other MMOs), I never wanted a gear grind. Ever. What I wanted was better looking armor sets and weapons. Things that were considered “prestigious” and I wanted harder content to challenge my group. Not to mention more cosmetic rewards for WvW. Overall, for a “cosmetic” game, it lacks in cosmetics and variety (take a look at Medium armor, blegh)

Do I consider GW2 a grindy game? No. Not at all. Especially in comparison to a traditional MMO. The only thing I find “grindy” in GW2 is getting a Legendary. If they fixed the way Ascended is earned, it’ll be a lot better (just in my opinion).

Bring Back Ranger GS Damage from Beta

I’ve always found it odd how my Greatsword damage is almost equal to my One-handed Sword damage. Melee damage is suppose to be higher than Ranged (because of the high risk involved) but it doesn’t feel that way at the moment with a Ranger’s GS.

I remember fearing GS damage in beta.

What is the ranger good at?

in Ranger

Rangers are really good at farming open world PVE.
We also have the best Water field in the game (Healing Spring)

That’s all I can think of.

As for escape mechanics…. Thieves, Mesmers and Elementalists have more escape abilities. Ranger’s are good at kiting PVE mobs, but don’t expect to be able to kite many good players in PVP.

Pet’s getting Distortion when you dodge would be brilliant. There’s so many times when I’ve dodged close calls, only to have my pet walk straight through that AOE I just dodged out of.

It would increase their lifespan by a lot.

WvW Rewards - New Gear?

in WvW

Posted by: Nurse.1085

Nurse.1085

March will see the release of the WuvWuv progression system, new ranks you can earn in WvW visible to all other players, and new DubVDub specific abilities/bonuses that you can earn as you rank up.

That’s great and all, but is there any word on whether or not they’re going to be adding New cosmetic gear and/or cosmetic items to WvW in March? Maybe even Ascended?

I have nothing to spend my badges on because the current gear is awful (in both stat selection and appearance). I feel like WvW should have multiple sets of gear in terms of both cosmetics and stats, just like Dungeons do. Also, it should have more prestigious options for more devoted WvWers, equivalent to Legendaries, in my opinion.

I was just curious, maybe I missed something.
