How do rangers feel

Uhh…Yeahhhh ….if you really enjoy a WoW Hunter, you’re going to be sad when you play a GW2 Ranger. This is coming from someone who is NOT a casual player. I’m not talking about leveling, I’m talking about Competitive play / Fractals / Exp Dungeons / WvW. It’s one of the weakest classes because of it’s bugs, low damage and it’s class mechanic (your pet) is in a horrible state right now. But for leveling, it’s fine.

I still enjoy Rangers only because I enjoy using Bows / playing Archer classes. Not because I think Rangers are a strong class (not in it’s current state). I’m sure they have some buffs and fixes coming in one of the larger patches early this year (Jan/Feb/March).

PS: To the person who said they liked collecting and naming pets, another Ranger bug is that your pet names don’t save lol.

I’m sad Jan isn’t going to be a big patch, a lot of my friends are taking a break from the game and said they were going to come back to it to see what they fixed in Jan. I guess they’ll have to wait until Feb/March…..

Gah, I’m so impatient. /filled with anticipation

I’m personally happy with just seeing some class balance and fixes.

What I don’t like about it, is that 50% of the time it doesn’t work. The pet will run over to the downed ally and do nothing at all (when the pet is alive of course). It’s like our #3 downed skill, half the time it doesn’t work.

In addition, it doesn’t work when the pet is dead or dies while rezzing. Wouldn’t that make it weaker than other classes because it’s dependent on the life of a really squishy pet? That may or may not be alive when an ally is downed? Quite realistic considering it’s a dungeon, where a pet will probably be dead for most fights with any AOE.

Anyways. I prefer the Engineer resurrection or the Elementalist’s. I still use it though in Fractals because most of the Ranger utilities are pretty lack luster for my build set up. I’m not quite sure what else to take for that third utility, since my build doesn’t circle around Traps or Signets.

Name 3 "easy" improvements for WvW

Nurse.1085

Too many to list…Uhh, let’s see, besides basic bug fixes and exploits :

1. Give better rewards / Progression / Rankings…something to give WvW an incentive besides flexing your server’s ego and mediocre buffs
2. More things to do for small groups, though in the end we’ll all just get squished by The Zerg. Maybe change the mechanics in some way so it’s less rewarding for Zergs? -shrug-
3. Remove the Anonymity. I hate feeling like another face in the crowd. It gives people a chance to make a name for themselves. Sounds lame, but I really miss that (knowing your enemies).

In my view, the Trinity Needs to Come Back

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Nurse.1085

I’m personally a Healer in every game that I play. GW2 is a nice breath of fresh air but the lack of trinity makes pve really boring for me. I’m waiting for Elder Scrolls Online for this reason. I miss healing, having a true UI and nameplates. The idea of no trinity works for GW2 and it’s player base and I thought it would for me too, but I’ve had a change of heart. I’ll keep playing though for sure, but this game won’t be my main MMO.

Maybe it’s because GW2’s way of handling it was poor in terms of difficultly. Their idea of harder higher fractals is adding more mobs rather than new mechanics. Lame. I would love it if they added raids like the World bosses since they feel so epic. But for some reason they’re so hard against them, yet they add Fractals with a new tier of gear? bleh.

You’ll be glad to hear then that they discussed this in a recent interview and are currently reworking the dungeons.

I believe the reworked dungeons are coming with the January patch

Or February. But this is a good theory, I never thought about this. I remember reading that interview about the dungeon-remake. I also read Anet’s boast about how the next few patches are an Expansion’s worth, so there’s a chance this may mean the dungeon reworks.

Lack of communication during holidays

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Nurse.1085

Nurse.1085

I honestly think it’s easier for them to stay quiet.

Think about it. Everything an Anet Dev says is picked apart and talked about and it’s as if everything they say is set in stone. For example, if an Anet Dev said “Oh, that’s a good idea” it could easily be blown into “WHEN CAN WE EXPECT IT!!!??!?!?” by the community. When in reality, there are no plans for such an idea to be made, the Dev was simply stating that it was a good idea and maybe in the future.

In addition, the community holds the Anet Dev’s words as the Golden Rule. Set in Stone. Never to be changed. It’s easier for them to stay quiet about something and decide among themselves the best plan of action. If they decide on something, share it with the community, and then decide it was a bad idea and take it back, the community would throw a fit one way or another. Example: “You promised me this. You went back on your word. I can’t trust you.” As past patterns have demonstrated.

Just as another example, Jon promised certain Ranger changes but the Dev team couldn’t meet the “deadline” the Ranger community expected of them. What happened? The Ranger community exploded. How could it have been avoided? If he didn’t say anything to begin with.

However, I do wish Anet would communicate more with things they plan to do in the close future. For example, I’d love to know some of the ideas and plans they have for the Jan/Feb patch that they know they can deliver. It’d also be nice if they acknowledged faults in the game that they’re confident needs to be addressed. But again, it’s just easier and safer to stay quiet.

If you could pick 1 Ranger bug to be fixed.

Do you use Longbow?

in Ranger

Posted by: Nurse.1085

Nurse.1085

Yes, Longbow is my main weapon. I use it in Dungeons/WvWvW.

Reasons why I use it :

  • Even though Shortbow does more damage, I can’t stand the idea of pressing #1 all day for my main source of damage. Auto attack, auto attack, auto attack. I find it’s gameplay very boring for Dungeons.
  • I prefer to see the “overall” picture with Longbow. Example, I know Shortbow will do X amount of damage in the time it takes me to finish my Rapid Fire channel, but I still find it more amusing to see 10-15k+ at the end of my Rapid Fire and 2.6-3k auto attacks.
  • I love the aesthetics of a Longbow.

What I do like about Shortbow though, is how “fast” it feels. It’s so fast, that when I switch to my Longbow, I feel like a sloth. That’s the only thing I really like about Shortbow. In addition, I use my Longbow with a power/prec/crit damage build.

But yes, I know I’m “gimping” myself and Longbow needs a little bit of TLC to make it on par with Shortbow -glares at Anet-. However, I still thoroughly enjoy it.

Wanting to come back.

Char Creation - No Special Armor?

in Ranger

Posted by: Nurse.1085

Nurse.1085

Anyone else notice when you create a Ranger, you don’t get any special armor or special anything? You get a pet. Not even an unique pet. It’s just a normal pet you can get anywhere in the world.

Hear me out.
ALL of the other classes get to choose a UNIQUE armor skin for their character. What was the reasoning behind giving Rangers typical average pets as their “special selection”? It should be given to us by default, since it’s our class mechanic.

Personally, I would have like to have seen an option like a Quiver back piece (like how the Engineer’s get a Kit back piece). Just my two cents.

Do you use Longbow?

in Ranger

Posted by: Nurse.1085

Nurse.1085

I use Longbow for PVE/Dungeons and WvW. I don’t SPVP, but if I did, I wouldn’t use Longbow. I use it simply because I find it more aesthetically pleasing than a Shortbow.

In addition, I feel like I actively use my Longbow skills as opposed to Shortbow (where I let my auto attack do all of the work). Shortbow has too much CC on it for my tastes, I hate how all of it’s damage mainly comes from auto attacking. It offers me boring game play. In PVP though, this is different.

Suggestions for the long bow

in Ranger

Nurse.1085

- #1 (Long Range Shot) should have it’s cast time reduced (currently 3/4 but I’ve heard it’s actually longer than that) ; I’d personally like to see it’s cast time reduced to 1/2 second.

- Rapid Fire needs to be more Rapid. It takes 5 seconds to get a full channel off, I personally think it should be faster or have it’s damage increased.

- #1 (Long Range Shot) should also have it’s distance requirement adjusted. It’s not practical in Dungeons or Spvp.

You’ll notice you still have a lot of the bugs you saw since launch. Not much has changed.

- Your arrow projectile speed is 30% faster
- Your underwater combat hits harder
- Your Signet of the Hunt gives 25% speed (as opposed to 10%)
- Your pet has a little bit of an easier time hitting moving targets.
- Your Shortbow auto attack got nerfed

That’s about all the significant changes since launch. A lot of tooltip typos have been fixed lol. Supposedly a big update is coming in January though. So yay.

Stats and gear for dungeon?

Nurse.1085

Just sharing my stats

Traits: 30/30/5/0/5

Power: 2305
Precision: 1691
Toughness: 1297
Vitality: 1247
Attack: 3385
Crit Chance: 41%
Crit DMG: 81
Armor: 2,361
Health: 18,392

I have Power/Tough/Vit main pieces with Ruby Orb inserts. Accessories and Weapons are Glass Cannon (Power/Prec/Crit Dmg). My Fractal rings are Lunaria, Circle of the Moon and Lost Seal of Usoku.

I’m thinking about dropping the toughness and going full Vitality instead. Switching out my Power/Tough/Vit pieces for Power/Vitality/Crit Dmg. Haven’t decided yet though. >__< I figured that way my Crit Dmg would be better and I’d have a higher health pool to compensate for my lack of Toughness. Hmm!

Your new stats look better than before. I just don’t know how much Toughness will effect survivability in Dungeons as opposed to Vitality. Since Toughness only effects direct damage, you’re more vulnerable to condition damage.

Maybe, maybe not. Some servers fluctuate while others like Tarnished Coast stay steadily at Full.

There is no end-game content.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Nurse.1085

Nurse.1085

The fact is, a lot of the 80 content revolves around having a solid Group or Guild. Bad part? Anet makes it very difficult to find Guilds and Groups.

We’re forced to use an outside website to find groups for dungeons. The Guild section on the forums is just a zerg of all the guilds across all of the realms (such a mess to go through). If you’re alone, it’s hard to think of things to do if you have no goals. Yes, there’s a lot you could do solo, but it’s so subjective. A lot of the things that pop into my head to give you as an example is stuff that I don’t even find fun or want to do (IE: Jumping Puzzles, map completion, crafting, legendaries, etc). I don’t particularly care for “grinding”, yet I feel like farming a Legendary is doing just that. Plus I think that most of them look lame, so I’m not even interested.

I also find that a lot of the 80 zones are empty now (Orr / Southsun Cove). Probably because Orr is frustrating beyond belief and Southsun has nothing to offer. That could be just my server though.

The point is, the game is young. It’ll get better and it’ll add more content over time, just like all of the past MMOs before it. Hopefully they’ll add some kind of progression in WvWvW to make it more worth while.

My suggestion? Get onto a populated server. Find a guild. Make friends. Use voice chat. It makes the game a lot more enjoyable. Guild Wars 2 feels almost like a Sandbox MMO (using that term very lightly). It’s not like traditional MMOs where you’re like “Okay, I have to level. Now I have to grind my gear. Now I have to raid. Now I have to raise my PVP rating. Now I have to blahblah, etc.” It’s more like “sign on and do something.” It’s not laid out in front of you, which is very confusing for people.

It depends on what server you want to be on. There are usually 4 servers that are always full (ie: Tarnished Coast) and you’ll have a hard time getting on them. If they’re opened at all, it’s only for a split second. I know, because I’m in the same situation as you. I’ve been camping the server that I want for 4 days now and I’ve been signing on to check every 10 minutes when I’m on. I’ve been trying at awkward hours (12am / 4am / 10am) it doesn’t matter. I realize Anet must have done something to increase the cap or filtered it out or something, since the other week they all went from Full to Very High.

However, now they’re filling up again and I can’t get on the server my husband and Guild transferred to (which is Tarnished Coast). Neither can my sister-in-law.

Are these servers stuck at Full? Every time I look, it never moves from Full. Any Tarnished Coast members know what times I should be aiming for to camp the World Select screen?

Server status is based on the number of accounts tied to a server, not the number of players actively online. Even if Tarnished Coast was completely empty of players it would still read full. Shame Arenanet chose to lie about their subscriber numbers like that. : /

Not sure if serious or trolling. anet doesn’t have subscribers, and the server status do base on number of players online.

One of the community managers admitted to it being based on number of accounts. Denying the truth won’t change it. It’s probably all Arenanet can do to prevent NCsoft from shutting the game down after it failed.

Show me a link until then you’re a troll.

Right there. Last post in the thread. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but Arenanet is lieing to you, and the game is bleeding players at the throat. Arenanet needs to fix the wound somehow, and fix it fast, or this game will be shut down by February.

This is being a little too dramatic. You expect a game with no subs and more content patches coming soon, after winning a bunch of rewards right after the Holidays, to shut down by February? Ha….You can atleast throw out a more realistic GW2 Dooms Day date.

This gentlemen is correct. Tarnished Coast and Sea of Sorrows are both extremely high demand servers. There are a lot of players looking to move to them as soon as spots open.

You’ll need to check regularly as in every few hours if you’re looking to move to one of these servers.

lol I usually check every 10 minutes through out the day. There are 7 full servers right now (from 5 last time I checked). Seems to be peaking right about now. I guess my best chance would be past 4 or 5am EST tomorrow because a lot of people will be doing family events in the morning. I have a feeling though that if I don’t get in by tomorrow, my chances will be slim until next year since people will be receiving GW2 as a gift.

Dungeon Finder / LFG - In the works?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Nurse.1085

Nurse.1085

I imagine they are probably working on something similar to the original Guild Wars I game where if you said LFG, LFM and such you were automatically put on a list viewable to the whole town very much like gw2lfg.com

I am completely against the dungeon finder idea entirely, this is one of the only games I have played that felt like it had a sense of community. Especially with world verus world, you just know certain players. Ontop of that, people don’t vote kick each other for dumb reasons.

There is no sense of community when it comes to Dungeons. That’s like saying you’re against LFGing in Overflow servers because you lose a sense of community. The only reason your server even matters is because of WvWvW, which is completely separate from Dungeons. What makes GW2 so great is that Dungeons can be done with anyone on any server. So why would they limit their LFG system to a smaller server base when they could have a booming Dungeon player base across all servers? Think about the Trading Post and how it’s across all servers. It’s booming, full of items, money and it’s active. That’s how their Group Finder should be.

Regardless, I didn’t mind the GW1 system but it is outdated. Anything would be an upgrade from their current system imo.

Dungeon Finder / LFG - In the works?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Nurse.1085

The way to scale it for casual and extreme gamers alike is to open the dungeons periodically throughout the day. Each dungeon que should be announced and give an option to join the dungeon que or que as a group. You should be able to que from anywhere because you may have not explored the maps yet.

Open them periodically throughout the day? Maybe I don’t understand what you’re trying to say but I disagree with that idea if you’re saying what I think you’re saying. There’s too many restrictions for no reason other than to frustrate people and to have them manage their time around a game. The idea of a LFG would be for easy access to groups so you can get and see more content on your time. There’s no need to complicate things with LFG lock out timers, which is essentially what that would be.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Nurse.1085

I’m not necessarily asking for a Dungeon Finder like World of Warcraft, let’s get that clear. I was just wondering if Anet is working on some kind of better LFG / Group finder system for Dungeons. Can we expect one within a few months? A year? 2 years? Soon? Never?

The current one is just….well, I don’t have nice things to say about it so I won’t say anything at all.

I honestly believe a modern MMO should have some kind of functional LFG system. It would make grouping for Fractals and more traditional dungeons much easier than spamming LFG/LFM in Lions Arch.

I understand the game is young, I don’t expect one by tomorrow, but I’m honestly curious if we should even expect one at all within 2013. (PS: I already know of gw2lfg.com and if you don’t, you should).

Depends on what you want to do.

If you want to always be wanted and you like to Support, then play a Guardian.
If you want to be all around good at everything (and favor Greatswords), then play a Warrior.
If you want to be sneaky and do big burst damage (but is very squishy), then play a Thief.
If you like throwing grenades, using tools, flamethrowers and a variety of kits, then play an Engineer.
If you want a prof with a high skill cap and plays with fire, then play an Elementalist.
If you want to be tricky and your main goal is to SPVP or WvWvW, then play a Mesmer.

The “weakest” or rather “most broken” profs would be the Necromancer and the Ranger. Might want to save those for an Alt.

Right now, it’s very common to see Thieves, Guardians and Mesmers. I would say Elementalist is also close to being very common. Engineers and Necros are probably the least common and even though Ranger is broken, their aesthetics are usually popular in MMOs so they’re not as uncommon. But still weak.

Your race doesn’t matter. Racials are generally garbage and you’ll probably never use them, so pick the race that most appeals to you.

Just to refresh your memory :
- Pet survivability needs to be addressed.
- Pet responsiveness is not perfect. It has a little easier time hitting moving targets now but it’s not polished.
- Pet’s F2 cast time’s are too long and feel very clunky and unresponsive.
- Signets need a revamp
- Weapon synergy is lacking
- Sword auto attack still roots the player in place
- Some of our weapon damage needs to be looked at
- Spirits are still worthless

Hiya. ^.^ For starters, I’m a 23 year old married woman and I live on the east coast of the US. I’ve been playing MMOs for 6 or 7 years and I have a lot of past experience in both PVE and PVP.

I’m looking to join an ACTIVE guild on Stormbluff Isle. I am not interested in playing casually, I’d prefer to join a guild with a solid and active player base with voice chat.

I’m mostly interested in running dungeons and doing WvWvW, but I prefer dungeons and world events.

My Thief is currently level 21 in Fractals and I have full Exotics and Ascended gear. I have 3 other 80s which consist of a Support Guardian, Support Necro and a Support Elementalist. Obviously, I like to support :P. I would consider my Thief my “main” but I swap between characters depending on what the group needs.

PS: I’m not really interested in switching servers but if you are on a Tier 1 or Tier 2 WvWvW server then I may reconsider. Just message me ingame, on the forums or reply to this topic.
