I haven’t played since release (2+ years ago?) but I remember Support/Healer type Elementalists to be some-what viable (same thing with Support Guardians).

Are they still a thing? Were they nerfed to the point where they are no longer viable?

I am more so interested in learning about where the Staff Elementalist stands in terms of support game play. Thanks.

Has the game released an end-game yet?

It’s worth coming back to try Fractals if you haven’t already.

Are you trolling?

Anyways OP, I don’t think you’ll like the new turns GW2 has made if you’re coming from World of Warcraft.

Yes, they added a “gear grind” aka a new Tier of gear that is better than Exotics (called Ascended). However, Ascended is only earned by doing Dailies/Weeklies/Monthlies (unless you do Fractals for the rings, which is limited by a Daily and potentially RNG).

Thus, even if you play 8 hours a day, the casual who plays 30 minutes a day will have the same gear as you. It’s also time restricted, you can only get 1 piece after doing X amount of Dailies (it takes a month+ of Dailies to get 1 Ascended piece on 1 character). The rate in which you earn Ascended is also based on if you’re in a large and established Guild (aka new or small Guilds are struggling with this aspect).

As for the PVP, I can’t speak for Spvp but they did make improvements to WvW but only very recently. Previously, it’s received minimal (if any?) attention.

Basically OP, walk on by.

I’m 23 and my husband is 25. Neither of us are casual gamers, which is what GW2 is aiming for. We still play this game casually though, after devoting 1600+ hours to it each. We came to terms with this notion after a few months of kicking and screaming, asking ourselves why this game is so casual and simple.

Guild Wars 2 is designed for people to play for 2 hours a day (probably less). Someone who signs on for 60 minutes a day will be as successful as someone who plays 8 hours a day. It’s designed for the masses, which is more casual than not.

This game is beautiful, detailed and artistic. It has a lot of good ideas for MMOs, but I really really REALLY hope future MMOs do not take the casual path of GW2 (I’m looking at you, ESO).

I see this is a hot topic.
I agree with rangers need more attention. I always get teased because i play and enjoy my ranger. would be nice if people would welcome rangers into wvw, dungeons, etc.

Same here. Not by strangers, but by the people I play with (jokingly, not to be mean). My group of friends consist of a Guardian, Thief, Elementalist, Warrior and Mesmer so they chuckle at me when I play my Ranger. When we do group fights in WvW, we usually target the Profession’s with the least “escape/oh-crap” buttons, which is normally the Engineer/Ranger/Necro because we know we can pin them down.

My biggest problem with my Ranger is the fact that a lot of the time I get Out of Range, Miss, Obstructed for NO REASON. It’s frustrating trying to land Longbow hits and I’m being told I’m out of range even though I’m within 1100 range (and spec’d for 1500).

Also, channeling Rapid Fire for FIVE SECONDS is a joke in PVP. The only good that comes from it is tracking down thieves temporarily.

Too bad my pet will inevitably die from random AOE’s and cleaves anyways.

I’m also glad they’re “looking into” our weapons and utilities. Though, after 7 months, something tells me Anet is a little bit too cautious to make any significant changes.

I suspect another disappointing patch day. We’ll get some love, but nothing to put us where we need to be in terms of balance.

Casual.

I’ll probably keep playing every now and then after Neverwinter, Elder Scrolls Online and Defiance comes out. I’m hoping one of those 3 will satisfy my play style for me to call home. Guild Wars 2 just doesn’t have what I want in an MMO and I miss certain things (Raiding, Healing, Battlegrounds with variety, hard content, progression, etc).

However, it is an enjoyable MMO and it has a lot of great ideas. Casual players come first though, which is why I can’t call it my forever home.

I have multiple 80s because I enjoy playing multiple characters. I don’t have just “one main”, at the very least I have 2 classes I like to consider my mains and the other classes I play on the side. However, this is a dilemma for me because I’m being forced to choose one character (I want to progress with) and commit to that character. No matter how you try to spin it, Ascended is not for people with multiple 80s. I don’t think asking for a realistic goal to get Ascended on 2 character’s is such a high expectation.

I don’t know if you misread what I said, but I said NOT to add Ascended on the TP. I also said Anet should think of more fun and innovative ways to purchase Ascended. An example of adding them to crafting was a bare minimal suggestion and in no way shape or form meant to be an idea that would be considered “innovative.” I’ll leave the creative thinking to Anet. Let’s hope they start doing exactly that.

Exotics get the job done in most PVE scenarios. In fact, wearing Greens will get the job done. However when it comes to World vs. World, it’s always smart to max out your stats to the best of your character’s potential. In this case, the option is Ascended.

Daily’s would feel truly optional if there were multiple ways of obtaining Ascended. Until then, dailies is the only road you can take for max stats.

the game was designed with exotics being BiS

In addition, the gap between Exotics and Ascended will keep growing every time they release more Ascended. When new content releases (Expansions for example), which stats will they be made for? Exotics or Ascended?

And for the record, it is Anets problem. They are the “gate keepers” to this gated content. It’s not just about players like me either, returning and new players will also feel intimidated by Ascended’s time “requirements.” Or simply people who enjoy playing multiple specs.

Regardless, I hope you’re right about one thing. I hope when they add “more ways of obtaining Ascended” it’s not just more Dailies / gated time sinks. I will wait patiently because if I learned anything from playing a Ranger/Necro for 7 months, it’s how to be patient.

Not because I have to. Because I want to. Because I enjoy doing so. The moment…the exact millisecond gearing my characters ceases to be fun is the exact millisecond I’ll stop bothering.

Okay, fair enough.

Now consider that, like you, there are others out there who want to obtain the best gear they can.

Would you like to explain why they should have to submit themselves to a boring grind for it? Why the pursuit of the best gear can’t be both challenging and enjoyable?

People begged and pleaded for a gear grind in this game. Ascended is for those people.

Exotics are there for the people who don’t want to grind for their gear.

If you want Ascended then you’ll just have to grind for it like everyone else who wants it.

Would you prefer paying $15 a month to have one attempt a week at a boss that may not even drop your desired gear piece, which you still have to win the /roll against other players in the group? Or, play freely with a guarantee based on time, on when you get your BiS gear without the influence of RNG?

If those kinds of gates weren’t there, we would be back at square one, people complaining that BiS gear is too easy to get (exotics). That’s just the way it is.

I don’t think it’s as black and white as you’re making it sound. It doesn’t have to be “dailies or $15/mo for raids” – It can be so much more creative and innovative than that.

When people asked for gear progression, I don’t think those people ever intended it to be the way it is now. I’m sure those same people are crying “What were you thinking Anet!?” – Maybe it was bad communication between the community and Anet.

Also, as far as I know and if my memory serves me correctly, Anet said they always intended to add Ascended gear. Thus, it probably has nothing to do with people “wanting” gear progression to begin with.

It just feels like overall poor implementation. I wouldn’t mind if Ascended could be crafted or earned through other means in addition to what we have now. If Ascended stays off the Trading Post, it will never be as common as Exotics.

Right now, it’s nearly impossible to gear more than one character in Ascended. For someone like me with various 80s, you can understand how that can be frustrating.

=\ I just hope in the future they’ll be more creative.

Srsly, why do ppl complain so much about the dailies or monthly???

Nobody forces you to do it! If you dont like to do it just dont!

And btw, I get my dailies without thinking about doing them. Today I did one run of fractals plus JP in EB and voila, the daily was done! And I did those 2 instances cause I enjoy it. NOT because of getting the daily.

Enjoy your game, the rest will follow :-)

I’m sorry but I find the line “you don’t have to do them” an incredibly weak argument.

If you want end game gear, you have to do them. Anet wants you to do them and they encourage you to do them by taunting you with pretty shiny things that make your character stronger.

I am in no way saying Dailies are hard. I’m saying dailies is a horrible way to earn your end game gear.

I mean, do you really think Dailies is the best way to earn your end game gear? Yes/No?

Take this into consideration.

Other games: You need 23+ other guild members to get the end all be all of gear and it takes 4-6 months to fully deck yourself out.

Guild Wars 2: End game content can be done solo without the need of 23+ other guild members to get the gear. It takes 4-6 months to deck yourself out.

I said deck yourself out, not your entire account out. You shouldn’t be able to deck an entire account out in 4-6 months of game play because otherwise companies will lose money. While you might be able to get some pieces in other games you won’t be able to deck more than one fully out unless your guild is led by idiots or it has really kitteny loot drops.

I love this game for the simple fact, I don’t need 23+ other idiots to get the gear I want. I don’t fight over it with a DKP system or lose because of some stupid RnG. I earn it by completing dailies/monthlies, doing guild missions, and no I am not fully decked out in ascended gear and won’t be for a long time.

The biggest selling point of this game is you aren’t fighting 23+ people for the loot you earn. Note: I take 23+ as this is a normal raid system in most other online games. This has been brought down to 10+, but you do not receive the end all be all gear of a game with that little people.

It didn’t take me long at all to gear my character’s out from Raiding because I’ve always been in exceptional Raiding Guilds in most MMOs. DKP isn’t the only system, either.

In addition, it was fun to gear out my character because I was progressing in something. I felt accomplished afterwords and I enjoy being challenged. Those 24 or 9 other idiots became friends. I don’t care for solo play in a massively multiplayer online game. I’ve never bothered with dailies before Guild Wars 2.

I just wish they had an option for players like you and then for players like me. I don’t feel challenged, mentally stimulated or accomplished for doing Dailies for my end game gear. Where’s option B?

I guess we have different views on the subject.

It use to be really easy to sell Guild Wars 2 to my friends but …it’s so difficult now.

Everything sounds amazing, but when they start asking about “end gear/content” and I have to explain them it takes a minimum of 12 weeks for 2 accessories, a dedicated 20+ days of dailies and 1 monthly completion for a necklace and 20+ dailies from Fractals (unless you’re lucky with RNG) for 2 rings.

They look at me like “Are you serious?” – It’s a complete turn off and I can’t even defend you, Anet.

The most powerful/credible advertisement is word of mouth. Consider what kind of “words” are coming from our mouths recently.

What I’m saying is, please reconsider how your “gear treadmill” is earned. We understand “exotic’s were too easy to get” but please, this is not the right direction. If Ascended will be apart of Guild Wars 2 forever, add more fun ways to earn them that doesn’t involve a Daily. Maybe that means actually adding challenging content.

TLDR ; Dailies/Weeklies are not a quality way to earn end game gear and it’s NOT quality content. If someone asked me what Guild Wars 2 end game was, I’d tell them Dailies (Dragons, Fractals, Dungeons, Daily daily, Monthly, Guild Missions, etc).

Please go back to the drawing board, Anet.
I love your game but I’m concerned with the direction you’re taking.

When it comes to GC Ranger in WvW, forget about it. Bunker/Condition feels like the only efficient way to go in WvW. GC is just suicide in general but other classes do it better for sure. Rangers just don’t have the mechanics for it.

Nurse.1085

It really doesn’t matter, the only way I can see that 13% damage actually mattering is if you find yourself in a 1v1 in WvWvW when you have full exotic with berzerkers gear and your opponent having full ascended exotic gear, see how exact that scenario is? Let’s take this to pve, we’ve been wrecking mobs with masterwork items. Ascended only really matters in dungeons. In summary, you don’t even need Ascended. 13% damage? What are you trying to have a spree of 1v1’s in WvW? Do you suck at killing NPC enemies? They simply aren’t needed and if you don’t like how you acquire them then don’t buy them because I cannot stress enough, in most cases they aren’t needed

Then they shouldn’t be in the game at all.

Neither should legendaries in that case but they are as well. They offer slightly better stats than max exotics, so in theory everyone who doesn’t have a legendary should die right? Anyone who has a legendary are by far the superior dps people, you can’t survive the Cursed Shore either unless you have legendary weapons. And seeing as how like 10% of the population has legendaries, the high level areas like the Cursed Shore should be riddled with blue x’s. Legendaries are in the game for their aesthetics, not their stats. Ascended gear is in the game now for agony resistance. Like I said this is one of those only times where it matters, but other than that, it doesn’t matter, that’s just Anet giving them purpose finally. Hell, being a sylvari offers no significant gameplay from a human so they shouldn’t be in the game either. That’s your logic. Quaggan backpacks, I was fine without em, and now that they are here, still not noticing a difference in gameplay. I’m not saying they shouldn’t be there, they are there for those who want them. If you don’t want them then that’s ok just don’t make a fuss over it. Q

Sorry but comparing a Legendary with Exotic stats doesn’t really compare to an Ascended piece with increased stats. For the record, Legendary’s don’t have higher stats (but they will be bumped up to Ascended stats once Ascended Weapons release).

You’re comparing COSMETIC items to items with HIGHER STATS (Ascended). Your argument doesn’t work.

I don’t mind Ascended Gear. I don’t love it, but I don’t hate it. It does make an overall significant stat difference, no matter how you look at it. The gap will only grow larger the more Ascended pieces are released.

What I have a problem with is how Ascended gear is earned. I mean, it’s not about personal or group skill. It’s all about 20+ days of doing dailies, getting lucky with RNG and being forced into a large Guild setting that you may not want to deal with.

They need more variety in which Ascended gear is earned.

Enough restricted time syncs and dailies for God’s sake.

I have 6 80s, I don’t know which one is my “main” – Thus I do not have an amulet yet, let alone any idea who to get the other Ascended pieces on. Most of my 80s have Ascended Rings though because they weren’t too bad to get.

Ascended Rings = Easy to get, but not too easy (can’t just buy them off the TP)
Ascended Amulet = 20+ days for 1 Amulet
Ascended Accessories = An uncountable amount of days for 1 accessory + a gold requirement + a large Guild requirement

Basically, they did it right with Ascended Rings. It’s reachable and you can have multiple sets with out too much time commitment. In addition, there are multiple ways of getting Ascended Rings.

The Amulet and Accessories though have ridiculous restricted time limits.

I hope they do better in the future. This isn’t “quality” content, it’s just ghetto time syncs to get players to keep playing for all the wrong reasons.

World Fastest Guild Bounty Hunt - T3?

Bosses are too easy. Remove timer and make them so hard that players will cry. So hard that guilds need to start to really think gear, builds and tactics.

It’d also be good if the game scaled Events better based on the amount of Guildies within a certain vicinity. I mean, actually scale – HP, how hard it hits, how often it hits, etc. Not sure how well the bosses are scaling in the Bounty Hunter shenanigans because I haven’t done it yet, or if they even scale at all besides different Tiers.

At some point I think a lot of content in Guild Wars 2 just stops scaling and it’s like the program says “welp, you have too many people. I’m defeated, here’s your free loot. Thanks for Zerging, come again!.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Nurse.1085

I don’t like it when people say “If you don’t want to do the dailies then don’t do them”

We don’t really have a choice if we want to progress with the game at 80. In addition, it feels like Anets “PVE end game” is leaning more towards Dailies as some sort of time sync or a time limiter to how fast you can do content.

Daily Dungeon
Daily Laurel
Daily Fractal
Daily Dragon

They did the right thing by adding difficult Guild Missions, but isn’t that also limited/daily? In addition, it requires a lot of influence and wait-time to even do them.

I’m not going to lie, I miss PVE Raids. I miss taking 3-4 days to complete a Raid and feeling accomplished or like I progressed my character. It doesn’t have to be about gear progression or higher tier stats, but it might be a good option for Ascended or new cosmetic rewards. Even things like Underworld from Guild Wars 1 would be amazing.

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Underworld

Meh. I hope they read these posts and understand that players want more solid, living content that can be repeated and not limited by a silly Daily.

My Opinion on AC - Good job.

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Nurse.1085

Nurse.1085

I run with a fairly good group. I don’t pug Dungeons because it’s a headache. I’ve had plenty of groups fail in the past with the old AC set up. I expect it to be even worse now.

On that note, I really like the new AC paths, the only boss I “disliked” was the last both @ Detha. Not because it was hard, but because the boss kept bugging out and because he kept attacking Detha, so it was irritating to try and position him. We had to wait until Detha died to get anything done.

What I like

  • You can’t skip the first boss.
  • The bosses HP was lowered, making it feel less like a tank and spank
  • Better mechanics, though you can still skip Kohler. I suggest locking the doors until Kohler is defeated so people can’t skip him.
  • The burrow’s actually spawn an intimidating amount of mobs now.

What I fear

  • It will get nerfed to the ground
  • Pugs can not do this, which will result in nerfing, which in turn will disappoint players like me who enjoyed the challenge.

The dungeon actually required some type of coordination, which is why I think pugs or bad players will fail. But if this is your PVE endgame, then you’re heading in the right direction in terms of revamping boss mechanics.

Overall, the Dungeon feels less sugarcoated and a snooze fest or a place for quick gold (next to COF P1). I look forward to what Anet does with the other Dungeons in the future.

As i said in another thread,

A.Nets strategy -

Target the 5% of hardcore players and make them happy while royally screw the 95% of the casual player base

You think hardcore players wanted this? That made me chuckle.

I’m sure we’re all cringing. The only reason this system is in place is to equalize people, so both casuals and hardcore players are being screwed right now. They want everyone to have the same chances as the next guy, casuals and hardcores alike.

They also want time syncs, but they’re poorly done time syncs.

The only thing “hardcore” about this content is it’s grind/petty time limitations. And that’s coming from a “hardcore” player.

Posted by: Nurse.1085

Uh, why not keep the dungeon tokens and instead reward 1 Laurel for every path completed (AS A DAILY so it can’t be farmed like cof p1) in addition to the dungeon tokens and increase the Laurel cost in the vendor to match according to the influx of Laurels. (Example: Instead of 30 laurels, it’d cost 80 or something because you can do dailies and dungeon paths for them. 3 Laurels per a full 3 path dungeon run a day will add up depending on how many dungeons you do). It’d still take “longer” to get but it’d still be faster than 30 days.

It would get people out of Fractals and more into Dungeons too.

They could also be a reward for completing certain achievements or by completing certain hard-to-do rare bosses like Taidha Covington (once a day of course).

Hmph. Just brainstorming, not like it matters!

I believe it’s the fact that you have to do it everyday and you’ll get 1 piece in 30 days. Not to mention the grind required of a Guild in order to even unlock Guild Missions. Then you have the grind to even get the Ascended pieces after Guild Missions are unlocked. Fractals isn’t that bad because you can unlock Ascended Rings at your own pace but the RNG/Daily token is still a minimal 20 day devotion if you don’t get lucky with RNG.

The dailies by themselves aren’t that bad, but when you add everything else to the mixture, it starts to become an eye opener. Dailies, tokens, 100k+ influence, etc. It’s getting out of control.

In a year we shall have our gear!

You guys yet haven’t understood that Anet is purposely releasing new gear piece-by-piece and with time-based limits because they don’t want people to get it all at once?

It’s how GW2 works.
This month you get the new ring, the next you get the new sword, etc.
If you can’t stand that you can’t just grind the hell out of the game to unhealthy levels to get everything asap and then quit, either consider a change of mentality or change game.

I’m glad you brought up the psychological dimension but I’ll part ways with you now. I believe possibly the worst aspect of GW2’s grind is how it affects you psychologically. Let me explain. WoW’s grind was the product of many years experience. It was straightforward. The likely length of the grind was known. And, the path to the gear was laid out for you. All you needed to do was hop on the treadmill and get that thing rolling. There were different levels where people hopped off. Some took it to the heroic raids and absolute top level gear. For me pieces from LFR raids, a few from normal raids, and then valor gear to round it out was fine. There came a point with each tier that I was done and I…RELAXED. That’s it; I relaxed. Then I did dailies, gathered and crafted to keep a set of gear on the AH (TP), helped out family and guildies, did content for fun, and fished.

Consider GW2. When I came to GW2 I immediately relaxed. There was no grind for gear post max level. I was having the MMO time of my life. I could play relaxed all the time. Then 11/15 came and went and we were left to try to figure out Ascended gear. Anet eventually made it clear in the AMA that we were to have vertical progression going forward in GW2. Well, being a somewhat experienced gamer I knew what vertical progression was. It’s the game element that creates a gear grind to give players a sense of progression and, supposedly, keep them playing the game. We were promised that the power curve would be low—we would have a slow grind. But, what does that mean? It means that the grind is never over. There is a sword hanging over your head every day you play called the daily (the path to the shinies) and you can never relax and just play.

Bottom line, WoW has a humane grind with an endpoint (in each tier) where the player can relax and just play. In GW2, the grind is unrelenting. It never goes away. Looking honestly at the two methods of grinding, I would say Anet’s version is the less psychologically ‘healthful’ of the two.

Love this post. It hits the nail on the head.

I prefer WoW’s grinding philosphy because it was about my own skill and my group’s skill/coordination. Not to mention it was about how much time and effort I wanted to put into it. If my Guild and I were really good, we can gear out faster thus the pain is over more quickly. We can relax.

Guild Wars 2 grind requires dailies and it has a set timer on it. There’s only one way to get Ascended gear and it’s through a painful, long, slow and boring grind. It’s not about how good I am, it’s just about tokens. Tokens, tokens, tokens. And lots of them. I can’t speed or slow down the process, it’s in the hands of Dailies. I would like to add that I didn’t mind the way Fractal Ring’s were earned, but it’s still sad it all came down to a Daily RNG in the end.

Guild Wars 2 is really bad at this gear grind thing, probably because they’re so inexperienced (Guild Wars 1 had nothing like this). I think they need to start plucking a page from a Traditional MMO’s book since this new “innervated” treadmill philosophy is not working.

Um, this is suspicious. Either the drop rate was always bugged and it was fixed today after all the hype going on about it or the drop rate was increased with the chest update. =\

Lame ending for such a huge mystery.

Prerequisites for New Content Seem Arbitrary

The 50k is just the start if I read this correctly.

You need AoW5 for Guild Bounty Unlock.

You need Guild Bounty Unlock + Econ6 for Guild Treks Unlock

You need Guild Treks Unlock + Politics6 for Guild Rushes Unlock

You need Guild Rushes Unlock + AoW6 for Guild Challenges Unlock

You need Guild Challenges Unlock + Architecture6 for Guild Puzzle Unlock.

Have fun, guys. That’s a lot of chunks of 50k influence right there in dat lurvley linear progression of unlocks.

Yeah, it’s mind boggling.
They wanted it to be a time sync, just like Ascended.

Except now it just sucks because I can’t even do the content with my Guild. I can’t even do the content with another Guild as a bystander because there is no reason for non-Guildies.

It’s really, really sad how they went about this.

New/Small Guilds are screwed. You have to devote what? A month before you can even start doing Guild Missions together starting from level 1? Worst idea ever.

The influence requirements are ridiculous. Stop trying to turn what should be a fun time for the guild into a grind and poorly placed time sync.

I thought it’d be okay if I can participate with other people’s Guild Missions, it might have been fun with a little bit of reward (I wasn’t expecting the full reward as if I was in a Guild, but I expected a little something for my efforts). BUT NOW THEY SAY THERE ARE NO REWARDS FOR BYSTANDERS!? Even after saying they were!?!??!?!!!!

What

The

Kitten.

If you participated in the event to take the bounty down, you will immediately receive your personal reward for guild bounties for that week and your guild will receive completion credit for that target.

This makes it sound like any player participating will get 50 silver, the rare drops and a personal guild commendation, but only the guild that kicked the event off will receive a guild merit, correct?

No, you have have to be in the guild with a mission active. Sorry for the confusion, I wrote the whole thing from the perspective of someone who is trying to run a mission.

So... I think they buffed the wrong spirits.

Bow of Truth: The health of this spirit has been increased by 30%.
Hammer of Wisdom: The health of this spirit has been increased by 33%.
Sword of Justice: The health of this spirit has been increased by 30%.
Shield of the Avenger: The health of this spirit has been increased by 30%.

Where are our spirit buffs we’ve been waiting on since beta nerf? You guys even mentioned on the State of the Game interview that spirit ranger was nerfed to extinction so why don’t you fix it?

Hahaha, I thought that too when I saw it.
Doesn’t mean that Guardian Spirits didn’t need an HP buff, but why increase their Spirits HP and not the Rangers while you’re at it? -shrug-

Yeah, I especially got kitten off when I saw the Guardian Spirits got their HP buffed. AND all of the Guardian buffs and weapon balancing in general.

I scroll to the Ranger.

I cried a little inside.

I use to say “Rangers will get their day. They will!” – I’m not so sure anymore.
