Would that MANY be relative to the number of posters on this forum or to the WvW population as a whole? I know that Maggies have been in the YB citadel, but if you were conducting a survey into the state of mind of the average Yak, I’m afraid I missed it. So I would just like to belatedly let you know that I am currently all-aquiver and so deep in melancholy that even a jolly pink portal couldn’t get me out of it.

Haha, by calling them lies you seem to have assumed that I am soliciting him to join YB, which I am not. I was merely providing info which he asked for in a non-biased manner.

You also seemed to have missed the part where the OP is on at 3am US time. It’s hard for YB to put together a zerg at that time when we might have 20 people on each of two maps at the most. And even if we did, there would be ample opportunity to get away from it if you wanted.

As for directing him to Millenium, only very vague info can be derived about how many people are on at a particular time. Changes in ppt could occur because one server has 5 people on and the others none.

If you really are playing at that time, you need to consider how many people are going to be on at the same time, both on your side and your opponents. I think a key question you should ask is how much action you will get during your time zone. You might escape the zergs but end up in a ghost town.

I’m in New Zealand and play at a similar time to you on YB and think that there is quite a divide now between the servers with coverage at that time and those without it; by that I mean, those with coverage at that time seem to have a lot of it while those without have very little. That divide comes in tier 4 at the moment; if you look at the next likely match up in tier 4, DB and Kaineng I think both have good coverage at that time while YB does not.

If you joined YB, you might not be in a zerg at the time you are on, but you would certainly have to be prepared to face them. You would have to find out for yourself if tiers 5 and below have much action then.

Yeah, if it isn’t fun, don’t do it. Funny thing is, there seems to be a sweet spot for WvW in this match. I don’t know the NA time zone differences, but the days I have been on this week it has been about 9-12pm NZ time (GMT +13 at the mo’). We don’t seem to have been too outnumbered at this point and have successfully defended assets and even done damage in EB for a while. It hasn’t been too bogged down either, with plenty of changes of scenery.

Bigger maps, multiple contestable waypoints that can be used by both sides, Charr troop transporters and drop copters that can be built like siege and carry limited numbers of players = more strategy = more dynamic = more fun.

NooOoo, nooOoo. Sometimes the Quaggans in the lake are friendly and sometimes they are not. You’d just need one group of each to start a brawl and watch the little lumps of blubber cut each other into lardons.

This is something I am too lazy to do, but I wonder if you could train some red Quaggans onto some green Quaggans for some Quaggan on Quaggan action. I’d like to see that very much.

Maguuma has been used to this since day one. We are all broke, but despite getting our teeth kicked in, we love to play. Did Yaks/IoJ never face match ups like this?

For Yaks it was our forlorn hope matches in tier 3 against FA and TC, perhaps our peak in terms of organisation. We do seem to have regressed as a server with regard to our overall population, however, so I wouldn’t hold it against the people who have taken on the heavy lifting if they want to take a breather before re-starting the development process from scratch. Given the likely matchups, the next couple of weeks will be a (re)baptism of fire for us and perhaps a chance to do that free of any expectations.

I have just noticed that you are from EVOH and wondered if you can answer a small question that has had me mildly perplexed. Can you tell me what fascination EVOHtees have for hanging around under the domey protruberance at NW tower? Was it my manly aroma that kept drawing them back or were they simply using that spot as a toilet between battles? I’m veering more towards the latter as a mesmer did void me over the side, as did a guardian when he popped out a little bubble. This coming week I have taken it upon myself to destroy as many flame rams as possible to work out my woe and erase the painfully sweet memory of Maguuma that was.

I actually find this server scramble odd. Given all the transferring that has been going on for the past 3-4 months, are the people who are doing an 11 o’clock transfer now so certain that the server they are moving to is going to be the right one for them? If they haven’t been able to find one to their liking in 4 months, what makes them think they are doing so now?

What this thread is really doing is chastising Anet for not accounting enough for the stupidity of people.

Throughout most of military history, armies sent in their light armoured and mobile forces to harry the enemy and probe for weak points before the heavies went in. So just wait for your auxiliaries to do their job before diving into the fray

Repairing costs are something that are often in mind when engaging, especially for casual players. I think without them, however, WvW would just be a mess because there would be no reason for most players to consider their actions. People complain about zergs enough already, but imagine what zergs would be like if they knew there were no consequences for careless play.

I’m more intrigued by "Also, we’ll add a new motivation to the WvW domain that goes beyond the overall weekly score to give more short term reasons to be winning in WvW as well. "

I agree completely with what you say, though do not understand your need to be rude to reinforce your point. Your assumption seems to be that all tiers operate the same as tier 1 servers, which is not necessarily the case. The OP is from a tier 8 server; I play on a tier 4 server. I have been in bombs that have failed and helped to break enemy bombs. Inexperienced maybe, but that is the way it goes and the reason one can suggest ways of combating portals in the current climate. The alternative is to take your leggings off and say: ‘Welcome good chap, you have broken through my outer defences so the keep lord is yours for the taking. Please show me to the exit’.

If DB go up it will probably have more to do with IoJ losing than DB winning if last night is anything to go by. Over a couple of hours DB gained only Hills in the YBBL while losing an entire half of Eternal to EB. Though it does seem that DB and EB have something going on. I can smell the hormones in the air.

Although it could be spicy, for the same reason I’m not too sure I would look forward to a FA/YB/Mag match – I really don’t like being the gooseberry, but I’ll bring a candle just in case.

If you are a small group versus a big group I think the best way to combat the portal is to try and stop the mesmer or force them to put the portal at a less optimum place. In this case I would use arrow carts firing staggered areas of cripple arrows to try and slow them down and burn through their invis. You want to keep up as fast a fire rate as possible for area-denial purposes and to stagger the cart AoEs at a decent distance so the mesmer can’t blink through them all at once. The best places to fire would be at choke points such as archways and the bottom and top of stairways/ramps (e.g. a mesmer can’t see past the top of a ramp to blink past an AoE there from the bottom).

But there are some keeps, such as SM and Bay, where the entrance(s) to the Lord make defending against overwhelming numbers next to impossible.

It’s anyone’s guess at the moment It will be up to either Yaks or EB to find out next week I guess.

But my point was more that tier 5 unfortunately looks set to be the most mismatched tier for the immediate future, which, from my own experience, leads to the least interesting WvW. Even matches that had two teams relatively much ‘stronger’ than the third weren’t that great (just remembering the matches that had ET and HoD in them as they were moving down the tiers).

It all depends on how strong Kaineng is. Maguuma has possibly been in a fortunate position of being able to get a couple of strong wins to propel them up to tier 4 before Kaineng gets to tier 5. Whoever drops out of tier 4 this week might find themselves fighting to a stand still or even being beaten by Kaineng. If a stand still, then the rank difference between tiers 4 and 5 might widen; if Kaineng win, then they might well take the place of another tier 4 server, even if it takes a couple of weeks.

For the immediate future, it does seem like tier 5 is going to be the most mismatched NA tier and I wouldn’t want to be caught in there if the rankings start to stagnate.

I have been using my pet to go after siege as well using “Guard” on walls, though I’ll hold off for now.

I wouldn’t stop using it as I don’t see it as an exploit (I happily used iZerker before it was nerfed). The real problem is that Anet does not seem to use consistent logic when considering problems, such that Guard and Dragon’s Tooth are not also fixed (maybe they will never be if people don’t cry about them enough, like people did with the iZerker).

This issue has been raised before and if I recall correctly someone from Anet acknowledged it and said it shouldn’t work this way. Obviously they haven’t fixed it yet.

It is difficult to exactly compare the different types of abilities as they do not all work the same:

-Regular AoE spells hit all targets in an area that does not change and have a fixed duration
-Mesmer iZerker hits a specific target that must be in line of site but also other targets within an area of effect that can move, and they persist until they are destroyed
-Ranger pets are AoE targetable, hit a single target, but can then move outside that area to pursue that target, and they persist until they are destroyed (based on what people have written here and assuming that is correct)

That said, the iZerker was nerfed because it was able to kill siege outside LoS, and because it is persistent was not subject to CDs. The fact that the pet can do this also and is more durable I think would warrant it being looked at.

The whole EB server gets booted minutes after taking the bay in YB BL, then when we get let back in there’s a 50 strong YB zerg who already have the outer walls down to 50%. It’s the Yak Vac Hack. I was standing minding my own business knee-deep in a mother of pearl bath filled with risen juice when I was sucked without my permission into the YB BL together with another 49 complete strangers. When I got there I thought I might as well wipe my filthy boots on the tissue paper walls of the newly reset keep and I tore them a little. I’m really sorry about that, and the stain.

At this point I doubt it is going to happen even if we could. It’s Christmas eve here in Oceania and I’m sure most of us ordinarily on at this time have better things to do than mix it up with angry young men. You’ll just have to do some carolling for the hardy few trapped in the citadel.

Targeting aside, being smaller and more compact might make it harder for people to read animations in order to counter.

Perhaps yes, or at least more so. Who knows. At the very least, DB has a large Asian population, who are going to be much less affected by the Western holiday period.

Looking at your other statements though, your apparent glee seems to have clouded your memory and reasoning. You claim we are doing worse than DH did against the same opponents, but the last two times DH played DB they lost by ~100K (that’s probably why they are now in a lower tier?). And DH played MAg so long ago that it is completely irrelevant.

The other reasons you gave (fanciful transfers and fair weather players) had to do with YB winning the tier, which the other two servers obviously didn’t do, so comparing YB to them is also irrelevant.

What I find endearing is that you seem to have held onto your disdain for YB for so long. It’s been two weeks now – don’t you think it is time to let it go, especially in this season of goodwill?

The points difference between YB and FA is currently projected to be <30 (smaller than that between EB and BP). If Mag stops fighting entirely for the last few days you might just manage to move us up to T3 and keep your friends in T4. I’m sure you’d all get on famously with FA too.
