-Siege cap abuse by spies can be fixed with this solution
-Unwanted players or spies can move the siege.(Can be fixed by making siege unit to be moved only by its owner)

I imagine they thought about this already but decided it was too problematic.

Whenever I read about the breakout event I can’t help hearing this ‘song’ – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kqcNXXCIs3w&list=AL94UKMTqg-9BOVlVp0pi20u6WqwCQD41G&index=2
When explanations make no sense
When every answer’s wrong
You’re fighting with lost confidence
All expectations come
The time has come to make or break
Move on don’t hesitate
Breakout
This should be the feme tune that plays whenever the blessed event goes off.
They can’t remove them because the wheels don’t work. They’d have to get rid of that bug before they can remove them.
These dudes who have been on Mag for 5 minutes need to shut up already.
Solution: either Bunzy or dreztina moves to YB. YB’s lack of roamer population fixed and they can duel each other till the cows come home. Win-win. Any stories of subsequent love-making to be kept in PMs.
Well with current scores you guys are in NO danger of going down a tier, so hopefully give us one hell of a fight when we inevitably get pushed back down to T3
Who knows. Ehmry Bay apparently just picked up a 450 person oceanic guild (someone mentioned from tier 1/2) so if they do what CD did to tier 4, then someone in tier 3 is likely going down regardless of whether TC is there or not.
Looks like this build just got a little stronger with the 14/12 patch:
-Shattered Strength: Increased to three stacks of might and ten second duration.
-Critical Infusion: Vigor duration increased to five seconds. This can only trigger once every five seconds.
-Phantasmal Duelist: Damage now matches the tooltip. Increased damage to match the lost damage from a previous bug fix.
CD and FA both have numbers to be offensive and defensive so I am pretty happy with this match up. No disrespect to Yaks who may read this. Their skill bumped them temporarily up to T3 despite their population but as their fortunes waned so did some warriors.
No offence is taken of course, but I think our fortunes have not waned so much. Rather, they are at the mercy of the ratings system (and were just a little at the mercy of TC). Over the 3 weeks YB fought TC and FA, YB improved the rating difference between us and FA from ~45 points to ~15 points, so there was really very little difference between these two servers. YB was then displaced by CD coming up after a big win in tier 4 because our rating was the lowest in tier 3 by just 15 points. YB doesn’t have the overnight population to achieve such a win and because of the way the rating system works YB is losing rating despite winning by ~50K. It would take a few weeks, but that rating could start climbing again.
But then again, maybe fortune worked in our favour as it is now in our own hands and I think, winning aside, it has been an enjoyable week in WvW for YB.
You advertise it openly and expect it to not be crashed? What are people thinking?
I guess it must strike you as odd then that no one from CD and TC was also there to crash it? What were they thinking, not crashing it?
I honestly don’t give a single kitten if TC and CD want to team up on FA. I really, really don’t.
And how does the rest of the FA WvW community feel about it? You know, the people you have to play alongside.
But, meh, we have our version of fun. They have theirs.
Heh, and now it seems that their version of fun is about to be repaid tenfold. Are we having fun yet?
I am pretty sure it’s considered as demoralizing the enemies by means of psychological attack, or something?
Double fail then
Compare this post to the one by Wizardauz.3761 and I think you’ll realize this is a lame semantics argument about what a “gank squad” is.
Sure, so strip away all the semantics and you are left with just a bunch of braggadocio. This thread started out well but then all the loudmouths came out to play. I have nothing against boasting, but to do it in such an unimaginative and classless way is a tragedy of type.
And we saw it happen the week before that also. We haven’t seen it this week….
Sorta all points to YB.
I find it really humorous how almost anywhere you go on this forum, whenever YB is mentioned up pops a FA poster (often from GODS) to have a go. We must really have got under your skin, which makes me feel quite warm and fuzzy.
As for the conspiracies, because of the obvious dislike of YB by FA posters here, perhaps it was an FA player masquerading as a YB player in order to make us look bad. See how this goes?
There’s an (almost) flawed logic in the idea of FA and CD having an alliance to beat TC. Suppose that FA and CD do cooperate to the extent that all three servers have the same score. At that point each server will then have to fight both others for their own interests, and then things will go back to their usual form, that is, TC will win because they have better coverage. I say ‘almost’ because the only way you could make this work is if you managed to maintain similar scores until the last few hours of the match. It would then be like one of those cycle races where they ride for hundreds of kilometres and then decide the race with a sprint.
Whatever happens, it looks like you are all going to have a long time to figure it out. In the absence of any large changes in population, the tiers are now consolidating the status quo, with the gaps in rankings between 3rd place incumbents and 1st place contenders widening.
Maguumans, bring silver and pitchforks to YB bl right now.
I have a big mushroom head, so don’t forget to bring garlic and butter too.
I am now pondering on how to counter this ‘capability’ without having to use similar exploit (if I happened to chance upon it) which is against the game EULA for an eye-for-eye payback.
If the logic is to logout before you are defeated, but that is no longer working, then the hard counter to this is to not log in in the first place. They can’t stop the Alt-F4il maneuver if you aren’t there. The benefits of this are that you will be perma-stealthed and you will never be defeated. Your silver income may suffer, however, so this should be attempted only by those who have enough money for what they need, like armour repairs.
So is it fun in that matchup Yaks, or do you miss t3?
Yes, T4 is full o’ fun! I set foot in WvW for the first time in a week and a bit. After shaking off the rust I was positively sparkly.
T3, where YB had no chance of winning and even who came 2nd and 3rd was decided by TC at the end? No thanks. Besides, I like Maguuma’s style. Even some of their posters have style, unlike that other side who I won’t mention. I might like Ehmryites too, but I haven’t seen any yet.
PS: TC are nice too, but maybe seem a little too earnest for me, in that pat on the head sort of way. In fact, I think I got a bald spot after the last 3 weeks :P
Thanks for the guide and keeping it updated.
Just a small thing if you don’t already know it, but if gold isn’t such a problem for you, you could keep a second sword for night time use with a Sigil of the Night ( http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Sigil_of_the_Night ) on it. This would give 10% extra damage rather than 5% for around a third of the time.
Classic! But I say if we are going to be accused of this over and over, why don’t TC and YB actually do it? So a question to FA: if you were to face a REAL 2v1, what do you think would happen?
Here’s another meme for everyone. It seems that half the dropped precursors mentioned by people are Dusk. Does that mean that if there were say a 10% chance to get a precursor, there was a 5% chance to get Dusk? Or maybe it is just that Dusk is the one everyone remembers. being silly here – please don’t take this seriously.
Having said that, I know for a fact that the only two precursors linked in my overflow were both Dusk, although this doesn’t mean there weren’t other precursors that weren’t linked. Of those two, I know that one isn’t listed yet because the person who got it doesn’t have the gold to do so.
I was fortunate to complete this with the help of people on this forum, so my thanks to you. My brother, however, had the crash and then rebuild routine stop him and he mentioned it actually cost him silver to do this event in the end.
So with waypointing from deaths and armour repairs, how many people are actually out of pocket as a result of this?
What I find interesting is that although the website giving the timing of the event states the start time, nowhere does it say that it will last only 3 or so hours. – https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/releases/november-2012/#lost-shores-weekend-event
In fact, the Lost Shores Wiki (linked from the above page) states it is an “…event chain that will run multiple hours” – http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/The_Lost_Shores
Given such wording, I’m sure many people could be forgiven for thinking they had time to do it when they got home.
Can we please get some feed back on the thinking behind finishing a major event on a Monday morning in most Oceanic/Asian time zones.
What I would like to know is whether this is going to be a continuing trend with events in the future. As a customer, I would like to know this so I can make informed decisions about whether I will continue to support a company that appears to value me less than those living in specific time zones.
Write to them and complain. Anet made a conscious decision to time this event knowing that it would not be available to many of their paying customers. Completely astounding.
The more I think about this the more my mind boggles. What company in their right mind would consider setting something up like this that would give a big fat finger to a large chunk of their paying customers?
Seriously, I suggest everyone affected by the timezone issue should write to Anet to complain. Putting it on a forum is too easy for them to ignore.
You can’t blame ANet for giving worthy prizes for an important large scale event announced since the beginning of the month, just because you couldn’t participate
Yes, you can. I live in NZ where phase 3 started at 9am Monday morning, which means I had no chance to do this at all. And I can blame them because the solution is simple – design an event that everyone can do! They made a conscious decision to set this at a time knowing that much of their global audience couldn’t participate. As a consumer, I find that unacceptable.
Heh – missed this thread and started my own. I find it ludicrous that GW2 is sold as a global game but events like this do not cater to a global audience. Really, I can’t even figure what they were thinking – oh kitten we forgot about the rest of the world guys!
I mean Anet, you do realise you are disenfranchising a large proportion of your paying userbase don’t you?
Title should read ‘global’ but I can’t edit it.
There seems to be a lot of disappointment related to the one time nature of the Lost Shores event, but I haven’t seen this aspect discussed unless it is buried somewhere. GW2 is sold as a global game, WvW is a 24-hour affair, but one-time events completely fail to cater for people outside a certain time windows. Sunday 12pm PST is 9am Monday morning for me, meaning I had no opportunity to even participate.
If you are going to sell a game to a global audience, tune events so all players get to have a fair chance to do them please.

Gee, Yak’s still have really hurt feelings from a fortnight ago. I’ve never seen a server so upset about winning a match before.
I understand competition but a server earning your respect and holding contempt for a server? – those are just databases. The people in them could be anyone in the world around you .. if you hold contempt for people you’ve never met before so easily, well I feel sorry for you.
I guess it’s OK, however, to make blanket statements about databases of people you’ve never met before based on the posts of just a few people? I mean, you did use the word ‘server’.
Regardless, obviously 1 or 2 posters are representative of an ENTIRE servers playerbase. WvW is serious bizness it seems. lol.
Perhaps you should speak to your server mate – he seems to be an expert on this subject.
(edited by Ordibble.3092)
My experience with this event has been nothing but frustration. Half the time my iBerserker doesn’t go off (evaded, invulnerable, obstructed) and when it does, it does stupid damage to maybe a couple of karka and then they are all dead.
The issue isnt range, it’s line of sight.
Picture this, imagine you are an ele. You know exactly where the arrow cart is, but when you go to cast your spell you can only select the top of the wall. Not ONTOP of the wall, but the top of the wall. This means that unless the arrow cart is within the back half of your AOE circle, which you cant even see (Spoiler: it’s not if they placed it properly) you cant hit it.This occurs regardless of your distance. Certain placements were completely immune to any ele skill regardless of your proximity to the wall.
Indeed, they were immune to any skill that required line of sight to hit the target. Of course, mesmer phantasms were not affected by line of sight. Meaning that mesmers, were basically the only class that could hit defensive siege that was placed properly. Clearly imbalanced, perhaps not from an offense vs defense standpoint, but more from a class standpoint. If 1 class can do something that no other class can, and it’s not billed as a class feature, then there’s imbalance.
The same
It’s funny you mention this, because doesn’t the ele meteor shower (and some ranger skill?) not take vertical range into account? By this I mean it can hit targets that were outside of my 1200 iBerserker vertical range. So using your logic that mesmers should not be able to hit defensive siege that others can’t, should meteor shower also be nerfed because it can hit siege others can’t because it doesn’t obey a vertical range of 1200? Let’s QQ to nerf meteor shower because it is an anomaly.
[quote=748295;Zenyatoo.4059:]
Yeah, mesmers have been reduced to keep wallfowers and taxis during keep attacks, all because people couldn’t deal with a one shot berserker and screamed about it.
Are there any other classes that don’t have any decent AoEs (I don’t consider chaos storm every 35s decent)? If not, then I don’t see why mesmers should have to rely on siege equipment to be useful during keep attacks, especially as we have only light armour.
Solution: make Phantasmal berserker and Phantasmal warden AoEs so they can be placed where you like.
Alternatively of course, YB might prove to a powerhouse and simply flattens TC whereby they’ll probably win the same way TC did in the TC/CD/HoD fight. Or YB might turn out to actually have a big enough night crew to give the CD night crew a challenge, in which case who knows how it’ll turn out.
YB doesn’t have a big enough night crew to counter CD – we found that out last week when we played them. NA prime was even between us, we won Oceanic, but CD had an outright lead during Asian time, which was uncontested until the next day. They beat us by 60K but we still put 200K on the board, so it wasn’t what I’d call a white wash.
If TC beat CD 2:1 in score previously, with a bit of luck it could drag things back to being nice and even.
[quote=674947;Ryuujin.8236:]
I’m looking forward to it with fingers crossed. It’s not a given yet that YB will be there – we still have to hang on until tomorrow but are losing ground quickly.
Hoping for a good 3-way match. Right now in CD/TC/HoD it’s TC up 500 during the day, CD up 400 during the night, and HoD taking back their stuff whenever they feel like it.
So hopefully a 3rd powerhouse would stablise the point swing, and make for an interesting matchup.
If that’s the case, if YB is there it might very well have a bigger impact on TC than CD. We had no answer to CD’s Asian presence either but could very well bite into TC’s NA daytime PPT.
We are all over 25 years old, so a mature community is preferred.
Yak’s Bend. We might have a silly name but the community is, on the whole, mature. I originally joined YB because it was being talked about as the unofficial server for older players. One of the biggest guilds on YB is The Older Gamers (TOG), who require members to be over 25 years.
We are currently a solid tier 4 server that likes a good fight. Inter-guild communication appears to be organised, ego-free and small-guild-friendly, and map/team chat very rarely has toxic attitudes. More info at www.yaksbend.com
(edited by Ordibble.3092)
And with that FA would be the one moving up to T3 while YB stays T4. Huh.
Absolutely, which is why my last sentence above started with “If we do go up…”. Whichever of YB or FA goes up, the rank difference between CD, FA and YB will be quite small, so whoever loses in tier 3 next week will likely swap with the winner of tier 4 so long as there is no upset in tier 4.
Given the rumours of transfers to FA, I’d say they have a much better chance than YB of staying in tier 3 in the long run, though that might take a few weeks to stabilize.
…We (YB) faced CD before and their night crew completely roflstomped us. I honestly think that Yak’s Bend place is in the #4 bracket. We have too many small guilds and PUGs to compete with higher tier WvW priority servers.
Hey, hey, it might feel that way but it ain’t the truth
CD did beat us by 60K but we still put 200K on the board, which as WvW matches go is no roflstomp. Our coverage won’t be up to that of TC and CD but I still think the dynamic would be interesting and a fun way to test ourselves. Likely we will lose and then be back in tier 4 anyway, so just consider it an intrepid holiday if it happens. If we do go up next match, likely FA will then get their chance after that.
My main is an 80 mesmer and I run a combo of knights and berserker gear. I found the damage without the berserker gear to be kind of lackluster, but so much will depend on how you are traited. I have 25 points in the tree that gives vitality, so I don’t need to stack so much of this stat on gear (I still have over 18K health), though I do have vitality items I swap into if I need to jump off high cliffs, e.g., when porting supply runners. For me, the crit is necessary for endurance regen (Critical Infusion, which leads into clones off dodge) and bleeds.
Honestly, I’d go with the gear you currently have and see how it feels and then adjust accordingly depending on what you like to do. Then build up different items for different situations, just like you re-trait for different situations.
I don’t want to cause an argument on numbers but I have a video of the fight and you guys had 3 or 4 catapults firing at the west wall with people also attacking the gate. There were way more than 20 people attacking us at Greenlake tower.
No argument from my side
So to clarify, yes there were more than 20 people at Greenlake (with 3 catapults) but 40 people did not use the portal bomb.
Somewhere between 2 and 3 weeks ago Yak’s Bend had so many new players transfer to their server that they jumped from rank 16 to rank 11 in one match. That’s not due to gradually improving through learning and tactics.
From what I understand over the last few weeks the four servers people have been stacking and bandwagoning were BG, SoR, SoS and Yak’s Bend (although from what I hear people are now leaving BG).
A post from page 5 of this thread by a FA player. So now we have come full circle.
Here’s how I, a dumb random, see it:
-YB has not had massive (or even substantial) transfers at any point in our history. No one on YB has seen any new guilds
-YB does not have a huge non-NA prime time population. We have a handful of oceanics and some NAs who stay up late on the weekends.
-FA has not yet had massive transfers. No one on FA has seen any new guilds
-FA in this match so far has not had a huge non-NA prime time population. Last night when the maps went green they simply had some NA players who stayed up late (I saw them – they were mostly PRO with some Sexy, JPN and others thrown in)
But everyone please keep babbling, we have a tower to build
After taking down the west tower wall with catapults you sent in a mesmer and portal bombed us with about 40 players. Half of us were dead before you guys had even rendered for us.
Heh, I was in that bomb and there were only 20 at the most. I know it made no difference in the end, but this is a good example of how things appear from different sides.
As a little explanation, the only reason there were that many YB in our BL was because reinforcements came from other maps after FA had taken Redbriar (with decent numbers – my guess is at lest 20 at that time ) and then went on to bang on the northwest gate of AB while also pushing at the south. You might have got away with the northwest gate if I hadn’t seen the contested waypoint and went to check it out. Some guy there shot me with a ballista.
(edited by Ordibble.3092)
It was a couple thousand and that’s significant lead for the first N/A prime-time session. Score update?
It wasn’t a couple of thousand. If you check out the site I linked above it lists scores at certain times. Unfortunately they are not at regular times but the listed scores show that the most FA was ahead by was about 900 points. That might have gone up to 1K, but certainly not 2K+.
It’s too bad we can’t get a graph of WvWvW participation per world per hour over the course of the week. I guarantee that sort of information is available somewhere, and I’d pay money to get my mitts on it. I bet they could even break it down by regional representation.
The next best thing – http://mos.millenium.org/servers/view/40
To equate it with population fluctuations, you of course have to assume that PPT reflects the relative WvW populations at any particular point. With that in mind, I think it shows time zone trends reasonably well.
To answer someone else’s question, YB does have a bigger weekend than working day presence. From my own observations, our WvW population also seems to drop when we are winning by a large margin. I know the only times I haven’t logged in are when we are well in the lead.
I must say that FA numbers have greatly increased since last night, and today, we seem outnumbered at many places. Well, it looks like an already good fight is going to get better.
From posts elsewhere it sounds like FA may have picked up a decent sized Japanese guild and may also soon be getting an even bigger Euro guild. This match is only half way through and not won by any means, so if we, YB, slacken off, we could face a repeat of the second SoR match.
They went through the wall, hit me for 900 × 6 with that whirly ability, and then it explodes. One serker seems to always drop me to 20% with 2.1k toughness in one move, so no…they don’t just tickle.
So let’s just work this out. It hits you for 6×900=5400 damage, reducing you to 20% of your health in one strike. Adding the shatter, are you seriously saying you have only about 7000 health? What class has only that little health?
This is incredibly wrong. If a mesmer uses phantasmal berserker with no target selected, no phantasm spawns. I know, I play mesmer. Just cause you’re up a wall, doesn’t mean we can’t target you.
Actually, it is correct. I was surprised too so tried it out. You just have to turn on auto-targeting in the options. In this case, I see iBerserker as a just a symptom, whereas the real problem is that auto-targeting works through walls.
When I did my test I ended up with an iBerserker on me – I killed it in a second. I don’t think I have ever solo killed anyone using just iBerserker in keep attacks before and have never myself died to it, so I think the main reason people dislike it is the irritation factor. AoEs you just have to dodge out of but with the iBerserker you have to locate it, target it and then manually kill it, which is all too much effort when all you want to do is spam your arrow cart.
