Hi all,
I’m still pretty new to the Ranger, only 52, but it seems my Polar Bear is decreasingly able to hold aggro and tank very well. Are there any pets with an F2 Taunt ability, by chance?
Thanks!
Excellent, thanks for the tips!
Hi all,
I’ve been gone for months, just recently returned, and I recall really liking grenades. Is there a standard grenade build or two for PvE leveling that someone can kindly link me to? I’ve no clue what weapons to use it, what traits to slots for it, what stats to increasing for it, etc.
I appreciate the help.
Best,
Oy.
Thanks, Disturbed, brogarn, I’ll give those a go!
Thanks for the replies! I’ve never tried that dagger/horn with staff playstyle. Sounds intriguing. Is this what they call a “Well” build? I should look into how to trait and gear for it….
Thanks for the replies, all. It seems perhaps I shouldn’t be trying to make my Guardian ranged, heh.
I’ve been toying with Scepter/Focus and using Sword/Torch when they close in on me. It’s a pretty fun playstyle, but surely far from optimal.
Perhaps I should be looking for a straight-up DPS melee build….
Hi all,
I’ve been gone for many months, and was just dusting off my Guardian. I really love the profession, but am woefully ignorant how best to play it.
I like range, and I solo PvE quest mostly.
1. Is the Scepter my best bet? If so, what off-hand do you recommend.
2. Maybe a Staff is better?
3. What primary stats should I be equipping my weapons and armor with? +Power and +Vitality?
Thanks for any tips you can offer.
Oy.
Can someone kindly link me a “Power Build” and the weapons that might accompanying it?
Thanks again for the tips.
Hi all,
I’m a 43 Ranger who just returned from a long hiatus. I thought it’s long overdue that I start trying some dungeons (and, my monthly requires me too, heh).
What’s the best way of going about, as a total noob to GW2 dungeons, getting a PUG for AC and CM? Am I kitten against the wind even trying to get a group for them?
Thanks!
Thanks for the tips!
Hi all,
I’m been gone from GW2 for many months, but recently returned since I missed my cute little necro.
I know, I know, they are supposed to be quite…lacking in DPS and utility. But I like the profession.
I parked my Necro at 36, and would love some advice what build to pursue for PvE questing/leveling. I checked the first two pages here, but didn’t find much in the way of specific help. I hear “Condition build” or “Well build” here and there, but they don’t mean anything to me.
I appreciate any advice you pros might offer.
Best,
Oygg.
Hi all,
I asked these boards a while ago what profession I might like to play the most, based upon a set of criteria centered primarily around ranged. Someone suggested a GS/Staff Mesmer. I toyed with the suggestion, and honestly, since the profession is so blasted unique, I thought I’d give it a go.
I’m only at 15 or so, and find I’m struggling to play at range. Any tips on builds/skills/traits/tactics for a ranged GS/Staff Mesmer would be appreciated!
Thanks!
Oy.
Awesome tips, all, thanks a ton. I’ll give my ranger another go. I think the problem is, I rolled a Sylavari Ranger…and can’t stand the race! Ugh. Maybe I should reroll a different race to enjoy the profession more.
Thanks for the exceptionally helpful response! Off to try it now!
Thanks for the suggestion! I’ll try out both.
I wonder if a D/D + Shortbow thief would also fit (with a bit more melee than I’m used to) my tastes….
Hi all,
I’ve been toying with a Dagger/Dagger + Shortbow build for solo PvE’ing and WvWvW’ing. It seems a viable build from what I’ve read in here.
Can someone please link me a full build of the above with suggested Traits and Skills? I’ve been gone from the game for a while, and feel a bit lost, heh.
Thanks!
Hi all,
I played a bit at launch, but soon had to put the game down for work. I’m back now, and I’m struggling finding the right professions/weapon set that suits me. I’ve tried many, but would like to solicit expert suggestions.
Here’s how I like to play:
-mostly solo PvE (I’m not antisocial, just too busy to group at the moment)
-prefer range over melee (but don’t much enjoy kiting, but can if necessary)
-like joining quick WvWvW matches, time permitting, and following the zerg
I’m not looking for the OP prof du jour, and I don’t need to be a PvE god, I just like the above playstyles.
I know there is no one prof/weapon set that suits all my interests, but I’d like to hear what the pros who know the game better than I have to say in offering their suggestions.
Thanks in advance!
Oy.
I’m neither a fanboi nor a troll. I didn’t play GW1, but I’m really enjoying GW2.
Having said that, until last night, I hadn’t experienced a rollback since UO, over ten years ago! I’ve playedkittennear every single MMORPG since then (it’s the only genre I like), and last night’s rollback has me a bit perplexed.
Again, I love GW2. But one more rollback, and I’m outta here.
I’d LIKE to be able to use my turrets as aggro magnets in normal PvE, akin to a Ranger’s bear, so I could plink on the mobs with my FT or elixir gun. Sadly, the long recast timer on them makes this nigh impossible.
/tagging good thread
Hi all,
I hve a 33 scepter/dagger condition Necro, who’s fun, but a bit frustrating. Are Necros any fun in WvW at 80? That’s my endgame goal, and I don’t want to keep leveling a profession that turns out to be kitten in WvW.
Thanks!
Thanks for the replies!
Hi all,
I’m only level 40, but I’ve been struggling with finding a playstyle I like. I read a good thread here that suggested Rifle+turret(s). It’s been working surprisingly well, but I don’t think I’m quite working my turrets optimally.
Any turret Engineers able to suggest which turrets hold aggro well? I’ve found the Thumper hold aggro really well, but the Rifle doesn’t.
I appreciate the help.
/tagging great thread
Thanks for the responses. I just can’t seem to enjoy PvE’ing with my 35 Engineer. I don’t like the kit mechanics with no auto-attack, having to ground target everything (even with mouse target turned on). It’s just a clunky combat mechanic.
I’ll try a Ranger and see how it goes, thanks again.
Hi all,
I’ve been struggling finding the right ranged class for taking and defending keeps in WvW. Engineers are fun, but I struggle with all thekittentargeting problems with grenades. Necros are fun, but they take too long to accumulate DPS, and I never, never get badges with them. Guardians have scepter for range and is, well, underwhelming, etc.
So what about Rangers? How do they fare in WvW? I don’t want the OP profession du jour, just a fun one that can survive a bit and have fun in keep action.
Thanks!
I’ve been toying a bit with the dagger/dagger and staff combo. Not too bad, thanks. I’ll have to dig deeper into it (and getting more +condition armor).
Thanks for the suggestions. Perhaps I’ll give pistol/shield another go, and maybe toy more with bombs.
I love all the options Guardians have in PvE, but I’m a bit at a loss how to get badges in WvWvW keep action. Any tips?
Hi alol,
I love grenades in WvW, so I’m sticking with my 35 Engineer, despite how clunky it feels in PvE.
I can’t find a PvE solo playstyle I like. Grenade targeting is a PITA, and hard (not impossible, just hard) to drop accurately while mobile. Flamethrower seems clunky, too, with melee range and underwhelming DPS. Dual Pistols? Rifle? Both are ok, not great, just ok.
I’m open to and appreciative of any PvE suggestions. I feel too squishy in proportion to the DPS I do.
Thanks!
PS: I wish GW2 had a targeting keybind like TSW. In TSW, if you CTRL-# a ground target ability, the ability would go off at your selected target. It was SOOO nice for GTAOE abilities.
Guilds are cross-world, but the perks are locked to the world that earned them. So you will still be in the guild but will need to start the unlocking again.
Bah, thanks though.
Everyone knows, it’s not the size, but how you use it.
Our guild is on a server which we didn’t know was the unofficial Oceanic server. Therefore the peak WvWvW is at off times for most of us. If I, as the guild leader, transfer servers, will my guild transfer with me? We’ve already earned a few guild perks and we don’t want to lose them by having to start anew.
Thanks!
Thanks for the replies!
Not familiar with necro PvP builds however guildwars2guru.com had a couple of build links so you may want to check over there.
Thanks, I’ll look into the site.
Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?
Hi all,
I have a 26 Necro whom I love, both in solo PvE and in WvWvW zerging. However, where I lack success is when I get jumped 1v1 while en route to the the zerg.
Can someone please suggest a strong Necro build for such as occasion?
Thanks!
Just trying to get through the first few missions to get out of the starter area, but I keep getting swarmed with too many enemies at once which are tighly packed together so I can’t lure just one at a time.
I understand where you’re coming from; I, too, am a bit on the fence with deleveling. However, please note, part of the problem here might be your class. Eles are VERY squishy, and require quite a bit of work in the early levels to stay alive.
I might suggest you try a Guardian or Warrior and equip them with a Greatsword and have at! You’ll love the facerolling.
OP here, thanks for the replies!
In WvW I like to defend keeps, it’s a blast. Taking them is fun, too, but I really enjoy the “fear” of “Oh !@#$ they’re gonna breach!” I also like to roam in WvW, PvE’ing for drops and looking for solo enemies.
So I suppose I need advice on the best build for 1v1 in WvW (and of course in solo PvE).
I know Guardians are facemelters, and I don’t want a FOTM cookie cutter build. I’d just like to solicit folks’ advice on choice of weapons and skills and traits, etc., that they’d found offers a fun playstyle.
Hi all,
My Guardian is only 12, but after trying all the classes to 15-ish, I’m finding this to perhaps be one of the most fun.
I’d like to ask what weapons and trait lines you’d recommend for:
1) Solo PvE’ing
2) WvW
I love WvW, and I test each class based upon how much fun I have in WvW.
Thanks for the tips!
