Btw I did this with a variation of my WvW hybrid condi build.
Not to burst a bubble, but your mmr decays over time if you don’t play any matches. That is probably why you went on a win streak as big as you did (it matched you up against easier opponents)
Isn’t it supposed to be the opposite? Isn’t MMR hell for those with lower MMR constantly being teamed with baddies?
Anyways, whatever the reason is I’m going to do the same (I.e. Not play for a couple of weeks) and hope I streak my way to legend too xD
You’re just too good at this game mate
Ha ha thanks fish man
TL;DR Went from Ruby to Diamond in few hours on a win streak with only 1 loss, wondering about the existence of MMR heaven and hell.
So here I was starting this season telling myself I am not even gonna bother playing past Ruby this season, with an overall lifetime ranked win rate of ~48.5% (see attached image) every season has been pretty much a grind to legend (S1 being even more so than a S2) and eventually to make legend I always had to team up with a friend, solo Q has never been good to me… Until today.
Starting this season was no different with a rough win rate of 50-55% and the usual win/lose frustration so I decided to wait or even better not care at all, so I made it to Ruby and stopped.
A couple of nights ago out of pure boredom I started playing again and told myself I would stop as soon as a I hit a loss streak but the victories just kept coming and it wasn’t even hard… Victory after victory, eventually I made it to diamond after a 14 game win streak, 1 loss and another 4 games win streak, pure SoloQ.
Now this has never happened to me before, Ruby was always a really hard struggle and very frustrating in SoloQ, so does MMR heaven exist? Have I finally ascended to it? Or perhaps due to me waiting I was much better than the Ruby competition at this point in time of the league?
I’m not sure anymore, thoughts?
I’ve been running this (hybrid build) for 2 weeks now with great success:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vlAQRAse5nnfN2gSuJvQRHlboskyPU4S5IKor8EllTlxe93nPNgEWQNjOKB-TVDFQBqTPQDOIAuTzAJVCSgTAAAeAAsb/BHqMINaIsn6PQRpxuUixgjAw5gDg1qWzaWg1Wbt1GQtSB81wK-wMy goal was to create a real hybrid build that would deal ample dmg on the sword as well as the obviously deadly condi burst from mace/axe.
This is a variation of the old condi pvp meta with Shiro dropped for Glint as I find it doesn’t synergize well with this build anymore, Glint/Mallyx is just so much better with amazing sustain from infused light and all the boons work really well with the boon duration from the durability runes and my choice of food.
I find mobility to still be great with perma swiftness and I can still chase people or escape (although not as well as Shiro) with unyielding anguish followed by frigid blitz.
With all the condi spam going on in WvW/PvP Mallyx is just amazing, I can easily get 6 seconds of resistance from pain absorption, overall surviveability is really good with extra vitality and toughness from the carrion and dire+rabid accessories.
With condi duration at almost 40% and torment at 70% you can imagine how deadly you are on mace/axe/Mallyx.I usually start fights in glint/sword drop elemental blast around the enemy (or myself defensively) and follow with the usual sword 2/3 and depending on how they react I will either play defensively with shield 4/5 until they blow all their burst or try to chain CC them with elite facet followed by axe 5 into mace 2+3 (amazing condi burst) and switch to Mallyx and corrupt all their boons xD
The thing is once you do decent damage on sword (2k base power + easily 10-11 might when facet is on) people don’t expect that condi burst. This build is extremely effective 2v1 I have some outnumbered footage I recorded I can upload it if there is demand
I highly recommend giving this build a try, it’s nuts.
NOTES:
- Viper back item: any legend (Ascension or ad infinitum)
- Carrion accessories: citadel of flame and sorrow’s embrace dungeon collections
- Viper amulet: either mordrem loop (hot story achievements) or bought with mag shards from the PVE raid
- I would sometimes run Invocation depending on the mood, invocation works great as well giving you extra stun break and condi cleanse as well as additional 20% crit from rolling mists and burst damage from equilibrium, retribution still is the safer choice with taunt and stab (counter to burst from stealth or CC chain) as well as passive prot and dwarf damage reduction.
Please upload your video. I actually subbed you a while back and would love to see this hybrid in action.
Thanks
Uploaded by popular demand xD:

So the story behind this video is these 2 knuckleheads kept coming back to try and take the camp from me and died each time, on the 3rd or 4th time I decided to record it and got some nice action afterwards as well from war+thief.
I am by no means claiming I am god… I still sometimes random dodge or spam my skills willy nilly, plus these 2 were pretty bad but you can still see the build strength, very sustainable yet deals massive damage both power & condi.
I have some more recorded footage but since I’m on T1 it’s really hard to get uninterrupted action without someone joining you and as for 1v1s I really don’t find it a challenge on this build, you have much more room for error than pure Zerk Rev so I don’t really bother recording them.
And btw, thanks, I didn’t even know I have subscribers, I made the channel mostly for self documentation and entertainment :-)

The dude is a joker, the fact he’s using Nomad’s in PVE should have been enough to close this thread already, probably never learned how to play the game in PVE as well, if you need anything else other than zerk/viper in order to survive in PVE you seriously need to l2p.
Still blows my mind that people complain about the HoT expac from a PvPer’s perspective when WoW’s expac is basically $60 (on top of sub fee) that forces you to grind through PvE all over again just to play your same class at max level again.
Please….. this is not my kitten point. I’m trying show what problems there are in pvp for goodness sake. Don’t make comments on wow. I was trying to show what the problems are in Gw2 not WoW.
Most people can’t read between the lines, shouldn’t have mentioned WoW
Everybody criticizes WoW but what about the things in Gw2 like the condition problem i discussed. Saying that I thought WoW had better pvp was the point. Am I the only one who sees the things?
Ppl are getting derailed due to your WoW comparison, I never played WoW and I still think your points remain valid, too much power creep, too many conditions, too many boons, too spammy, non existent build diversity, boring conquest mode with garbage match making, yes that’s the state we are at IMO.

Since I made a conscious decision not to care or actually try at all to go for legend this season, seeing all this QQ definitely helps me realize I made the right decision.
Maybe I’ll give it a shot closer to the end of the season if the mood strikes me but for now my advice to anyone who already got the back item is avoid this cancer mode at all cost, life is just better this way, JS…
I don’t understand the disappintment, Rev (ofc I mean herald in that regard) is #4 class in dps rankings (https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/4ft01q/qt_dps_benchmarkstests_for_all_classes/?), 99% of raid teams will use at least 1 rev (for amplifying the chrono boons) and is meta in fractals, bringing boons and amazing reflects in ventari (critical role for say 50% of the fractals) – really, what’s there to complain about?
Go full zerk/marauder and burst them down, you can out damage their heal easily.
I run a full zerker rev in WvW roaming with sword/shield+staff invocation/devastation with strength runes (basically the PVP meta build: http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Herald_-_Power_Shiro).
I started roaming with my PVE raid gear (force/air wep sigils) as a semi-joke in off season PVP just to one-shot people with the “combo wombo” for lols, the more I did it I actually realized I can kill almost anyone 1v1 (some are much harder tho like condi mes which is your hard counter) and survive amazingly well even on zerk gear with 16khp, with shield/staff you have very decent sustain with heals/blocks/protection and with Shiro you have nice escapanility from anyone, simply target a remote bird or some other wild animal or far enemy, phase traversal out and even a thief won’t be able to catch up with you (and if he does catch up and you have your CD’s you can kitten him up he he).
The most importent lesson I learned while roaming is that zerker rev is like a great white shark in it’s attack pattern, you get in take a bite and big chunk of the enemy HP, get out, watch them bleed and waste lots of kitten on trying to hurt you (use blocks if they are ranged) then go back in for the kill, with sword/staff your burst potential is insane on zerk, even the tankiest SOB’s can die with 2 good bursts timed properly.
I have a YouTube video of me roaming if you wanna check it out (signature), I can also upload many more that I have recorded in the last few weeks, can also show you some neat tricks in game if u feel like it shoot me a message.
No TCG? Who is helseth gonna DDOS then?
EDIT: on a serious note why the same old maps again? I’d love to see the new beta maps being played.
(edited by PadreNike.1803)
Watched the whole thing, and I gotta say, like his personality or not – he’s right, if you’re pure PVP’er and solo Q is the only content u can stream it’s just horrible, you have maybe interesting content for 2 weeks at the start of the season to rank up to legend and then nothing, add to that a whole month of unranked and GG, so yeah, I totally understand his point of view.
The recent patch has made great changes to pretty much every game mode out there other except PVP, if you’re hardcore PVP’er tough luck, guild wars is a MMO, you better enjoy some other aspects of the game or find another game, personally I really enjoy WvW solo roaming since last Tuesday.
So there is no argument at the moment elite specs are pure upgrade and are mandatory in competitive play.
As they were introduced they were presented as “a different way to play your class”, that made me think, what if elite specs would also lose an ability to wield an existing weapon set?
Let’s take for example the thief class, so Darrdevil enables you to wield a staff, but what if when you go Daredevil you also lose the ability to wield daggers?
That in conjunction with some very necessary buffs to existing trait lines could make some interesting builds.
Obviously this requires more thought which weapons to enable/disable per class, but I’ll leave that to the ANet “balance experts”.
Such wonderful and helpful comments, this is the best thread I’ve seen here in a while, keep them coming guys
Gz man!!!
Well deserved.
The other team didn’t have a war, it was a rev who switched for the achievement at 400 score.
Forget the comp for a sec, can all you smarty pants answer why would there be a legend on the other team at T4 diamond while not balancing it out with a legend on my team?
Because you have a small premade on your side. This is literally as even as a matchup could be without both sides being exactly the same.
So the small premade of Diamond+Ruby (at T4 mind u) justifies having a legend on the other side?
I’ll tell you why I lost, it wasn’t the comp I see unfavorable comps win all day long in solo ranked q, I lost because Toker was on the other side which according to matchmaking would team him up with ppl at his skill level (or close) meaning probably the most skilled players that exist in diamond ATM.
What exact bonus people in legendary division have to make them superawesome deciding factor?
+20% on all stats, or something like that?
What difference does it make? does this seem like proper matchmaking to you given the pip difference? That is the only question you should be asking.
When you make Ruby, you don’t have bottom MMR. You have to get a positive win rate in any division in order to progress…
@Chaith
That’s not taking into account the comeback pip and win streak, I can lose 4 games straight and win 3 games straight and I’ll still get legend over time:
4 games lost = -4 pips
3 games won = +5 pips (2 comeback pips, 1 pip, 2 pips from winstreak)
Now that is a horrible win ratio of 3/7 I.e. ~43% win rate that could potentially get to legend.
Looks like matchmaking is working.
It’s a 15 pip range up or down so.. You could be mid diamond, someone else nearly legendary – for your side.
The opposite side found a team in pip range – unfortunately the opposite team had some PvP Gods (eg Toker) on the opposite side – as they don’t play so many ranked matches and have not yet made it into legendary.I’ve played with you – you know rotations play well and strong.
Had a match earlier today with someone vs ApEX Prime [APEX] – we only just clawed a win by about 50 points. They were a diamond rank mixed with some legendarys – we were a full diamond team,Earlier in the day I also fought team PZ – lost 2 of them < 200 points nothing I could do to win the match. However I also had the same team PZ player on my side and we just about won 450v500.
Matchmaking is a bit screwy as I know you play well – I’m now 9 pips from legendary with a low win ratio for the season of 45.9%. I have also learnt a lot more this season than last season. My win ratio is screwed as I lost a lot of emerald games-but I’m probably just shy over 50% for my diamond games or just under since I modified my build slightly and play style.
Hang in there – you’ll make it.
Plenty of time to go before the end of the season.
Thanks man
For some reason I was certain the pip search range is +-7, but even +-15 shouldn’t have gotten me legendaried as I was 19 pips away from legend (T4 1 pip).
Three reapers and a thief, its a comp where you have to play smart. Its quite easy to win that, IF your reapers know how to position themselves so they can do maximum dps without needing tons of sustain. It is khylo, its quite easy to position yourself so only the rev is a problem, but if you switch focus to that rev as soon as he overextends, you should do okay.
From score distribution, Id guess you let thief cap home, ranger went with mid… and necros died on point in mid. Thats probably the worst opening you can do on khylo with three necros.
Ranger caps home, thief shoots treb on clocktower a coule of times and then moves on to far decap, necros position sides of clocktower -> focus rev when he ports up, focus ranger afterwards and you might win that first teamfight, if the enemy team isnt smart enough to give up trying to cap and chases a necro.
If they do focus one necro, peel, run in range to close for ranger to support. Its how I would have tried to play with that comp. Might not be the best way, but you should at least be able to get a higher score than under 200.
Wow! over 200? I see the light now I should have gone ele
The other team didn’t have a war, it was a rev who switched for the achievement at 400 score.

If you’re actually wondering why you lost: your team comp is terrible, and 3 Reapers is never a good idea. Competent players would have switched for a more even matchup. You were one of the ones who did not switch and have nobody to blame but yourself.
If you’re blaming the colored icons next to peoples names: 5 diamonds (yes, your ruby counts as a diamond because of who he grouped with) versus 4 + 1 legend isn’t exactly an imbalanced matchup.
And the other team had a warrior. So the game was 4.5 players vs 5.
The other team didn’t have a war, it was an engi who switched for the achievement at 400 score.
Forget the comp for a sec, can all you smarty pants answer why would there be a legend on the other team at T4 diamond while not balancing it out with a legend on my team?

GG matchmaking.
And to all you guys wondering, it’s not like I’m diamond T7, barely a T4 diamond scrub, why should I be facing a legend (+Toker nonetheless) on the other side while my team has a thief (a good thief but still…) and a Ruby player thanks to one guy who decided to team up.
And no, this wasn’t in a godforsaken hour (widening the pip search range), this is prime time NA 1st game after reset after maybe 2 min in Q, WTF???
EDIT1: Oh, the war on his team wasn’t a war, he just switched after he saw it’s a roflstomp probably for the achievement.
EDIT 2: Added SS proof, the war started as Engi: !http://i.imgur.com/x1ggzgt.png!

I have lost count at the number of games we’ve lost (my husband and I queue together when not a guild team).
It does quite simply make it, not fun.
But, why are we losing? Why do people we queue with do some of the most stupidest things we ever see IN PvP, such as:
- Not have the BASIC knowledge of capping and defending two points
- Not having the ENTIRE team leave mid to go and help a 1v1 on close, leaving mid free for the 4 others on the enemy team
- Not watch the kitten map and see who needs help and where
- Not efficiently rotate
- Not CALL OR FOCUS targets
- What is with the NEED for an entire team to stomp ONE downed player rather than working as a team and working around the others on the node to prevent rezzes or CCs or, idk, here’s a radical thought, finish ANOTHER downed player, or rez a team mate, or GET BACK ON THE POINT if decapped
- Not discuss strategy beforehand
- Not communicate throughout match, aside from flaming players
- Go AFK because they lose their own first fightThese BASICS we seem to lack, whoever is on our team. Wherever we go, the other team has the coordination and the back-up and our team is screwing around suiciding themselves going into a 1v4 mid one after the other coming out of base. It makes no sense.
Or is it us?!
What don’t you make a gameplay video for both you and your husband? Yes people have been tough on OP (justifiably so) but also gave him some very good feedback, if you’re brave enough record some gameplay so we can see where the problem is.
I think the mist npc-ele can contribute better to a win than you did
Rofl.
Jokes aside, OP is playing ele as if he’s in the tutorial stage of the class, not even once during that entire game did he use fire/earth attunment, the entire game he keeps masturbsting on air/water and only using air overload (tons of dmg) out of combat I’m guessing for swiftness?
Combo fields, blast finishers, evade frames, lava font + meteor shower on point (offense is sometimes the best defense), bad positioning as ranged class, I can go on and on and on all day… Most of it has already been said.
Sorry I can’t be more constructive but this just shows how ridiculous the system is as this dude should have clearly stayed in the early stages of Amber but with a tiny bit of luck and a little bit of help from the comeback pip we may seeing the OP soon in Ruby… Which will be horrible for both the OP and the people teamed with him.
If the system was working properly OP would have stayed in Amber having a blast with his own kind with probably a 50% win ratio and never having a 40 game lose streak.
It isn’t the matchmaking’s fault it’s this mish-mash of a reward track system for a league that some people mistake for a ladder is the fault.
The problem is that the damage output on the other team is so high that I am forced to stay in water attunement for the regen buff that my traits give me. As ele you kind of have to be in the center of the field especially with my build because of the way some of the traits work and because of how overload works.
new video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lqxIoHT0oyY&feature=youtu.be
Yet again, another proof that you clearly have no idea what you are doing on necro, you spam abilities randomly in hopes something dies, use your healing skill unnecessarily, don’t use stability to secure the stomp, die when you shouldn’t have (you could have popped shroud on that first death and at least try to escape with #2), not even once have I seen shroud #2 used for mobility, you didn’t dodge the ranger rapid fire nor the attacks that follow (@5:43) and to add to that you have very poor rotations (but I don’t expect that at your level).
I have a suggestion for you OP, I seriously think you should try an easier build to play (at least in lower levels) that would produce really good results fast.
Now since everyone and their mother playing necro, your best defense against it that is also very easy to play is shout bow Druid, plus it will support your allies with heals and clutch resses (search and rescue), I think that build might be suitable for you and you will be able to get some easy kills in emerald just by camping bow:

What would it prove? We already know theres a bias in the system with or without one of the best players in the competition on your team. Hence why Helseth didn’t get stuck in emerald this season. He won’t be playing games against anyone remotely near his skill level as they have long moved on. If he tried it at the start of the season that would be impressive.
That would prove a single good player can raise above the noise and carry 4 baddies to victory and not get stuck in ELO hell as people are complaining that as their MMR goes down it makes them stuck playing with worse players against increasingly better players sending them on a downward spirals that can’t seem to get out of.
@Sirbomerdier, apparently he did play on a viewer’s account already:

Well, the Reddit thread is still up, let’s hope he takes on the challenge

Worth a watch, what do you guys think? is the system favoring higher MMR players or are we all just refusing to admit we aren’t as good as we think?
Can I give his Majesty O the great Lord Helseth my gaming password (with Anet closely watching any suspicious transactions that might be going on while he plays on my account) and film how he manage to “carry” the teammate I’m given?
I will either learn a lot or laugh a lot… either way is fine by me… But I’m game if he is.
We seriously need to arrange this, I am so confused myself about the truth and as much as I would probably not like the result I would be happy to see the “higher MMR player” theory disproved, we need to do it early in the season though because soon enough every scrub is going to hit Ruby even with horrible lose streaks, after all, you only need 3 wins for a tier of 5 pips (2 comeback pips, plus 2 pips from winstreak on the 3rd win)…
Can anyone contact helseth about this? It’s good for him as a content creator as it would be a very interesting content to watch.
EDIT: I’ll try to page him through Reddit.

Its fascinating how much he is full of kittens :o
Do you think he actually believes those kittens he is spouting?
Yes, he has an attitude but you can’t deny he really is a great player and delivers when he plays (if you ever watched his stream).
The thing is every player worth is salt that I know of is already in diamond/legendary and i’m wondering if they really are “favored” by the matchmaking gods?

definitely hacking, he was disappearing all over the map many times in much farther distances than Judges/Merciful Intervention (between far and mid constantly) and had the audacity to trash talk in map chat as well, if someone has any doubt I can upload the entire match this is just an excerpt.
You be the judge of that…

….55 dragons beat abjured and won pro league with mercenary mallyx rev
Yes, but the thing is there was only 1 necro with the Abjured, ATM ranked is infested with necros all over the place.
Your “example” is actually the wall of text, I don’t wanna read all that useless fluff around the notes, gw2 patch notes are perfect for me, I get exactly the information I need quickly without all the BS around it.
With the new plague of necros left and right in ranked (at least 2 in every match…) anyone else feels the old condi rev is underperforming ATM?
I’m sorry Sesshi if I’m posting this without your consent but I feel this must be seen.
I still care, I love gw2, I’m sad seeing it get ruined, I agree with most points in the video, perhaps not with the community ones there are still really good people out there but I definitely understand the feeling of having to quit your favorite game seeing it ruined methodically piece by piece, one stupid decision after another…
I honestly don’t know if there’s anything to be done at this point, have we passed the point of no return?
EDIT: oh and Sesshi, you spelled guild wars wrong in the video
Gl Sesshi, hope you have fun in BDO, your videos have always been an inspiration.
I can totally understand why you’re leaving, gw2 is like that kid in school who everyone says has got "potential’’ that is never fulfilled, the game itself is wonderful but it’s being killed methodically one bad decision after the other in all areas of the game PVP, PVE and WvW (that was already killed long long ago), we are all in that same boat of “waiting for something to happen or things to change for the best” which unfortunately (at least for me) don’t change for the best (most times the opposite happens), I find myself playing less every week, no idea how long that’s gonna last…
I think ANet’s ability to make the right decision without the original gw founders (2 out of 3 left) is very limited.
Ty Methane for the great tips! I just started necro a week ago and this thread along with the videos on your YouTube channel have been great help to get into the class, I’m loving it
Yo Meth, check this out, not impressive videos by any means just a showcase of how tanky/sustainy the build is and how good it is in escaping the brink of death :-)
It does amazing 1v1s vs just about anything as well I just don’t really capture any 1v1 footage as it’s pretty lame (especially in EOTM), the build shines in outnumbered fights.

Cool build, cool gameplay. Very enjoyable watch.
Thank you sir!
You really hate asura’s O-o

You have a tiny one? :O …nowhere is safe! >: )
(I actually love asuras :P )
Ty so much for the detailed reply!
And yah the goal was to make myself super tanky while still having enough counter to condi’s, the need for rise and spectral armor came from using sage amulet in spvp which has 0 toughness but since i use trailblazer (don’t exist in spvp) in wvw you can easily the replace spec armor with flesh wurm, you are still tanky AF especially in shroud
I wish I could use blood magic too but it feels a little lacking vs condi’s and sustain as most of your heals are from using shroud 4, the thing I found is that it must hit in order to heal which becomes a problem when a Zerg is after my kitten and I’m low health, if it would heal regardless of hitting it would be much better.
I made some changes to the gear I feel celestial accessories make more sense and provide more dmg too (both power & condi):
http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?vRAQNBLhZ6kjGo4Gs2GwbTgeTsANYSNgAwyKOF2CnhU5ggQoC-TlSAQBK4QAEtjAwBV/JNKzMjSDPcCAAwDAISKBvn+Afs/AhAUMHA-wOooo.. Sage amulet is an interesting choice…. I’d think it could have nice synergy with blood magic :o …. could dish out some nice support for allies :P I never got to try the new amulets yet X_X
Death Magic must be really nice against all those other pesky condi people you find thoespecially other Necros.
Build’s looking good
Might seems easy to stack with such long chills so condi dmg would go up and power as well.
Have you considered something like Sigil of Torment or Sigil of Frailty instead of Agony? Those would be some nice cover condis for the build. I know I keep bringing it up, but I think when you have a lot of random condis (doesn’t even have to be a damaging condi), when the enemy uses condi cleanses, they can remove that irrelevant cripple or something while your bleeds tick away. It’s really good vs. druids/scrappers/tempests.
Great idea, the only problem with torment is that it activates on crit and the build has low crit, I’m def gonna try doom Sigil though.
Do you find parasitic contagion better than weakening shroud? From my (very little) necro experience the heals from that trait felt negligible.
If going for heals what do you think about replacing Curses with either death magic for “Unholy Sanctuary” or with blood magic for “Life from death” and “Transfusion” combo? With some apothecary accesories you can get some nice heals in shroud.
EDIT: this the build I had in mind:

Even with cheap kitten food you get 100% chill duration, it’s similar to what I use in pvp with decent success so far (as much as unranked is a representation of pvp)That build seems really interesting as well – spectral attunement with spectral armour and walk = super tanky, and Rise on top of that… I actually don’t see many people use stuff like that. I think those utilities would make you super tanky xD I have no experience with wurm-less Necro so I dunno how the mobility would be though…
-Death magic has really nice condi clears so that’d make up for the loss of antitoxin+ bean buns… and Unholy Sanctuary would make up for Parasitic Contagion. So I think Death Magic could be a viable replacement.
-Blood Magic could be as well, because it is reallllllyyyyyy nice with warhorn on a Reaper… although Life from Death could make up for Parasitic Contagion, if I took Blood Magic, I would for sure, 100% take Banshee’s Wail. Banshee’s Wail is imo one of the strongest traits that a Necro has… but it’s in blood magic >_> you get constant life force and the life leech you could get from Locust Swarm and Soul Spiral could be really nice in terms of heals… I did a quick calculation and I think you’d get easy 3k – 4k heals if you’re in the middle of 5 enemies… and you also get the free regen when you dodge from Mark of Evasion… so overall I think it could replace the heals from Parasitic Contagion… but you could lack condi clears.
-I was actually thinking of making a similar build using blood magic when roaming with friends – sort of semi-support but tanky as well… I think Reaper/SR/Blood has a lot of really nice potential to fill a tanky support role.
…My only issue with Blood magic is the complete lack of cover condis. It has life leech – which is a bit of damage, but when you’re in a condi build, having a whole bunch of random condis is more valuable imo. Soul Reaping and Reaper lines both don’t have any cover condis. Spite, for example, has the constant vuln and also condis you get from corrupts when using signets or Spiteful Spirit. Curses – the 2 corrupts from Path of Corruption (which is AoE and low cooldown) and I guess Barber Precision.-I think in sPvP Weakening Shroud is better than Parasitic Contagion. I think corrupts are just.. better in sPvP. Not only that but the weakness is arguably better defense than a bit of heals. If I used Parasitic contagion in sPvP, I think it wouldn’t be very useful cuz stuff gets cleansed pretty quickly so you’d get no heals. In WvW, I think it’s definitively worth it. I notice a real drop in sustain when I don’t take Parasitic Contagion. In the 2nd video there’s some clips where you see the amount of heals you could get from it and they can add up a lot… If you do a condi bomb on a group and teleport away, you can easily get several thousand hp. I love using it on NPCs too for free heals.
TL:DR I think both Death and Blood would be viable in terms of survival and healing but you would probably lack a bit of damage, at least if you’re roaming solo (not necessarily the case if in a group).
I think Parasitic contagion is really nice in WvW, but I still think Weakening Shroud is better for sPvP …. sorry for the ramble xD

I miss those days when a 1.5 sec stun was considered “over the top”.
I wish ANET would just revert that whole June 23rd patch, that was the start of the end for me: insane power creep and the obliteration of build diversity, add elite specs and it’s gg, RIP gw2.
It seems there’s a new issue indeed, some of us who got the title/achievement after it was “fixed” close to the end of the season had the achievement & AP reversed while the title remains available, support seems to be aware of it, not sure about an upcoming fix though.
