I have some more information about the keyboard bug.

I’m the developer of BGDM dps meter (which has a mac client for a while now), at first I suspected that my mod was part of the problem but reading this thread seems like this is a pretty common issue.

Anyways, I’m using the open source glfw library with OpenGL, when the keyboard bug happens I keep getting this message in my glfw error callback:
“glfw3 error 65544: Cocoa: Failed to retrieve keyboard layout Unicode data”

The call that fails is apparently this one:
glfw.ns.unicodeData = TISGetInputSourceProperty(glfw.ns.inputSource,
kTISPropertyUnicodeKeyLayoutData);

Without getting into an unnecessary discussion whether the below builds are OP or how to fight against these builds I strongly feel that perma-evade condi thief and “vault-spammer” (funny enough this is the build name in meta-battle) needs to be nerfed next season.

These builds are the definition of anti-fun (some might say cancer), minimal skill and mindless spam, especially the condi thief build – playing against that kitten can ruin the entire match.

Now before all the heroes that “never died to a condi thief” show up I’ll just say again – it isn’t about the build being OP I just think that a spammy build that’s requires only 3 buttons to play (dagger 3, dodge and wep swap) is simply unhealthy for the game.

More of matchmaking’s greatest matches, ANET I really wanted to enjoy this season but this is so tiring… I decide to q a few games and 2nd game of the evening I get into this?
2xDuo top10 and top100 obviously vs a full solo of 1550-1600 rating??? WTF

Mind you at the time of these matches I’m a low plat scrub with 1672 rating…

Not crazy off hours weirdness, 11pm PCT roughly, insta Q pop both times, to makes this even more fun these matches were back to back:
- 1st match against Toker & Kat… #37 & #66 on the lead board (ignoring the fact that Toker & Kat are actually rank #1&2 and this is an alt as that’s another issue LOL)
- 2nd match against Naru & Amon (rank #22 & #24) and some other Necro from EzPz (dunno who he is but most likely …)

Rating screenshots were taken prior to end of match so they are accurate.

I am not going for world champ or god of PVP, usually not the one to blame matchmaking when I lose nor do I complain when I lose and the match was fun, is asking for some fun competitive matches at your own ranking too much?

What wep sets are you using btw? I go mace obviously, but instead of shield or sword I use axe for offhand for the interrupt you get from the #5 pull, plus the blink which makes up for not having Shiro imo.

2nd set I rarely go into since we only have one condi wep and I need to keep up the pressure. It’s good for a last resort/hail mary survival to have sword/shield but you do leave ample time for enemy recovery doing that since you won’t be outputting much dmg.

I use Mace/Axe and Sword/Shield as 2nd set which is a must IMO for numerous reasons:
1. Still does decent damage on viper
2. Great defensively (sword 3, shield 5/4)
3. It’s a big part of your condi burst – legend swap+wep swap will copy 3 condis from you to the enemy, activate both wep Sigil sets (additional pressure + cover condis), top it off with a few Banish’s and most of the time it’s gg

I’m playing Glint/Mallyx hybrid condi with viper amulet exclusively this season (I still love this build so much, played variations of it S1-S4), doing pretty well, a bit over 60% win rate after roughly 120 games or so (can’t remember exactly ATM), 50% solo 50% duo with a support ele (obviously works much better), started silver 2 (ty placement matches!) currently at Platinum 1.

My observations:
- There are considerably less (rarity actually) Revenants than any other season
- Condi rev is still a rare sight, I may have seen 1 during my climb
- Viper is hard to play correctly and requires lots of practice with the build, beginners better use Carrion/Wanderer
- Condi rev still has a surprise factor advantage due to it’s rarity
- The recent buff to pain absorption (stun break) is a game changer
- Play it right against the up and coming burn guard and you can insta pop them (that means let them burn burst you and transfer it back to them with pulsating pestilence while giving yourself resist)
- Try to be in team fights as much as you can, although you can beat anyone 1v1 with this build, this isn’t your role
- There is however a big downside to condi rev and that is that a good thief will just shut you down completely, a good thief can stick to you 24/7 and +1 anything you do, hence try to be in team fights, think of yourself like necro, the anti-bunker condi cleave machine
- Power rev is still viable and deadly in the right hands, it just requires a much higher skill cap, Toker has 4 accounts in the top 25 NA playing power rev, the only problem is what happens if you’re not Toker

So, are we gonna get some love next week for season 5?
I’m not being too hopeful as to fixing unnecessary nerfs like the retri stab that killed my condi rev build… but how about we get some bug fixes that were promised long ago?

Losing vs condi? Slot Mallyx! ; No optimal power dps? Do you want defense vs condi or no?

Mallyx was great before the patch when stability was available, albeit outclased by power Herald.

Now that stability no longer exists for this class and the Naturalistic Resonance is borked the Demonic Defiance resistence no longer provides you reliable defense against conditions, so runes of leadership should be replaced by Balthazar or something else. Anyway, since no stab, condi Mallyx has no way to prevent being tossed around the map as a ragdoll by classes with good cc skills.

With no sustain (Shiro heal nerf) in the power build and no stability (Unwavering Avoidance botched) in the condi build the days of Herald in top tier PvP are over.

Where do you see the nerfs?

Rewarding players for awareness rather than random spam is called balance in my opinion, if you don’t use shiro heal out of rotation without making sure the enemy is not using blocks..you’ll be fine, if you learn to read the enemy animation you get stability on dodge

“Awareness” LOL, with mallyx and no stun break you will get 1 shot from a thief in stealth with no counter, skilled gameplay.

You did it ANet! You finally broke me to the point I don’t want to play the game anymore, this recurring pattern of butchering rather than balancing has gone too far this time.

It feels like the “skills team” (or w/e you guys call it in house) is run by people who have never touched the game, feels more like run by 10 yr old girls who play MOBAs on an iPhone.

I’ve been a proponent of this game for a long time, stayed when everything was crashing and burning post HoT, but no more, you managed to break the only build I was enjoying in PvP that wasn’t even meta or remotely OP… Gz

No, unless you missed it in the OP the heal was nerfed on shiro and retribution stab on dodge was nerfed too, I’d imagine invocation rev is still pretty decent although nerfed

I think I’m gonna try this out today since it feels like every game I play has 2 condi-mesmers in it these days, but two questions on this build:

- How necessary is Retribution? It seems like having so much access to resistance sort of negates a lot of what you’re getting from Ret, unless this is mainly just to help stomp/rez people. Devastation with your Sage’s amulet seems interesting since I think traited life siphoning scales off 10% of your healing power?

- Sort of similar note, but since you’re still using Glint, why not Elder’s Force?

How necessary is retribution?
I played this build with many variants, some iterations had invocation over retribution and it was great, I had more stunbreak, more dmg from equilibrium and the best thing was “rolling mists” to compensate for the lack of precision with sage.
It works great IMO, even better than retribution vs some classes (wars for example) and depending on the comp I would go back to invocation, overall I felt retribution is better “all-rounder” choice as a bruiser, it makes you more tanky and getting those clutch stomps (with Stab from retri) I found crucial for solo-q where sometimes nobody will cleave/stomp.
Not sure about how siphoning scales with healing power but I did try the invocation trait “invigorating flow” which does scale with healing power and heals you each time you use an energy skill, I found it a little underwhelming tho.

Why not “Elder’s force”?
You’re right, it has amazing synergy with glint and I was using it on and off, I think during season 3 I even used it like 90% of the time but somehow this season I felt I was getting more value from a the double and longer stab from invigorating bulwark for those clutch resses and stomps.
In any event it’s a great choice mostly comes down to preference and play style (more tanky / more dmg / etc).

They said they will mail an item (to all legend players) called “indomitable legend” after the season ends that will unlock the achievement & title.
There was a similar bug in S1 with the Primordial Legend and a similar item was sent in mail that unlocked the achievement & title.

Probably the best single point I know is:

Never enter an outnumbered fight.

I would change that to “never enter a losing matchup/fight”, fighting outnumbered assuming you can survive for a long time or even win – most times guarantees the 2 other caps:
Let’s assume you’re on Druid and can troll 2 or more ppl at far and the enemy is stupid enough to try and fight you outnumbered forever, that actually generates 4v3 on the rest of the map in your favor and unless your teammates are complete morons it basically guarantees the other 2 caps are going to be yours.

Exactly as roamzero said, full cele isn’t a good idea without the ability to might stack (and you have to choose between MtD and Shattered Strength…). Your damage output will be very mediocre.

I personally use cele trinkets with viper weapons and armour (cele chestpiece). I have found it to work well while solo roaming or small group – the cele trinkets provide just enough stats to not be one shot and viper gives you the teeth to do damage.

I use Sword/Torch pretty much all the time and swap out the other weapon depending on mood. I like greatsword thanks to might stack and vuln stack on mirror blade – can get decent small F1 burst with subsequent condition ticks. Also enemies don’t seem to get it – they expect zerker damage when you burst in greatsword and the conditions seem to (really) confuse people.

I believe staff is a pvp weapon – not a wvw weapon. It trivialises positioning in pvp maps, however in open field phase retreat isn’t so great, especially given the scary HoT builds that exist out there. Also your ability to chase is pathetic, and enemies will be able to run due to lower burst damage so you need to be able to chase and keep up pressure.

I am currently testing Scepter/Focus + Sword/Torch but need to recraft my ascended Focus (had deleted it due to uselessness many months ago). So far it is proving to be decent – not amazing because focus untraited is bad compared with Shield, but it is a fun weapon combo.

Scepter/Shield is of course godly, but I dunno – just feels too defensive with all those blocks. I like going aggressive with greatsword or pulling enemies into shatter with Temporal Curtain.

Oh and Scepter/Pistol is also fun – first time I’ve truly enjoyed using Pistol. However it scales very badly as number of enemies increase so I rarely use this.

This is the great thing about hybrid stats – you can swap out weapons depending on mood and still be effective. The only set I always use is Sword/Torch. Everything else I rotate depending on mood. But never offhand sword – I don’t like offhand sword when using these stats.

It’s true about staff being a “utility” weapon in pvp, I’ve been experimenting for a while now with Sw/shield Scepter/torch with carrion amulet in PVP, it’s very strong for 1v1s so I wanted to try to recreate the build for WvW and actually improve it with the stat flexability available in wvw.

Actually I find it easier to kill a thief on this build more than the power variant, I dueled a skilled thief friend of mine running the d/p meta and it ended it as a tie, each duel could go either way but it requires that the thief would be really good, the average thief gets destroyed easy, plus, in a conquest game a thief wouldn’t force me to lose the point, most thieves try to hit you once/twice see they aren’t going anywhere and run away xD

True, it’s not optimal, if you can handle viper amulet it’s probably better.
Personally I found the extra vitality needed for that extra cushioning, I couldn’t stay alive as well on viper.

I wish ANet would give us an amulet with power/condi/precision/vitality.

The competition now isn’t as high as it is in the start of the season. My friends is conservative power necro and he hit legendary last week. I think first days of sapphire would probably best testing time for that.

I like the idea of hybrid revenant, I am not playing one in spvp simply because I am used to +1 style of this class but on wvw I am running celestial with testicular cancer runes of perplexity, along with sixteen +5 power infusions and sigil of bloodlust. Power damage is only a bit less than marauder’s is (think last time I tested it was only 10-20% less), plus this build contains an element of surprising durability and condition damage.

You’re right, the completion isn’t as strong as season start when everyone is rushing to legend, however with the MMR based matchmaking it’s still tough and games are mostly competitive, especially at Diamond+.

Power is about 25% less than the marauded equivalent before bloodlust stacks so probably less than 20% with full stacks as you said.

I have a viper based hybrid build for wvw leaning more toward the condi side using sw/sh+ma/ax, power is still decent at over 2k,1240 condi dmg, almost 40% condi dura and toughness at 1415 (tanky enough), I love that build so much that was my inspiration for the pvp build:

Some of you may remember my advocacy for hybrid-condi-rev, I played a variant of this build almost exclusively from S1-S3 (with a few major changes dropping shiro after S1) and S4 was no different, I got to legend playing Glint/Mallyx condi rev with Sage amulet (wat???), solo Q roughly 70% of the matches, win rate to legend was 63.5% with a total of 145 games played (only started playing last week).

I’m not claiming I’m a pro player, nor that this build is better than the meta power rev for pro level tournaments but IMO this build works amazingly well this season, even though you have no toughness it feels really tanky and with mallyx/sage combo you are basically immune to condis and also able to support your teammates vs condis really well.

Even though a really good power rev should win the matchup vs this build I felt that with the skill level in ranked right now most power revs were basically “free food” for this build (stack confusion, watch them kill themselves), I didn’t feel there was a “direct counter” to the build that could kill you quickly but rather that I had a fair chance of winning every other meta build if I played it right or at the least I could hold the point contested/capped forever.

I wish there was a better choice than Sage amulet but this was the best I could come up with if I wanted my sword to actually do some dmg and viper amulet felt too squishy for me, plus the heal power scaling on mallyx heal and shield 4/5 with sage amulet is a not bad at all.

I added a bonus screenshot so you can see the insane amount of dmg you can dish out both condi & power, I tried hard to break the 1M dmg and couldn’t, 900k was close enough :-)

On my way to legend I have seen a total of 2 other condi revs so you get that “surprise” factor as well, so if you’re having difficulty with the meta power rev cuz of condi aids or due to the fact that (IMO) power rev is high skill cap to really get gud at I encourage you to try this build.

This is in place as a measurement for potential AIDS brain-dead builds that may not be on the radar. Let me use an hypothetical situation for you to understand:
Let say I run a HoT 1v1 tournament back when Bunker mes was OP BUT no one discovered Bunker Mesmer exist and YOU somehow the godlike espurts player who theory crafted it, and we all know how aids that was. This rule is in place just in case we will most likely not ban anything you theory craft breh

Still, banning something while the tournament is ongoing based on what someone may precieve as AIDS is wrong IMO, make up the rules beforehand and live with the outcome, if by the tourney date someone managed to come up with an undiscoverable build and wins with it he should get the win no matter what.

Just my 2 cents.

Definitely, I just like the extra damage and synergy with glint and I feel 1 stack of stab and the retribution line is enough protection for me, enhanced bulwark is a very viable option for sure and a safer option to get used to the build.

It’s basically the previous meta’s condi rev with glint instead of Shiro and sage amulet.
Lot of people will laugh at you for using sage amulet but I find it is the most optimal for a hybrid build (having equal condi dmg and power) with some extra vitality.

Of course I’d rather have precision or toughness instead of healing power but it is still not a total waste of stat as Mallyx heal scales really well with it as well as shield 4/5, you also gain a nice bonus healing when you use facet of light passive from the regen.
That said, if you feel better with viper or wanderer amulet, both work and are sometimes better depending what you are facing.

Like every other build, knowing what to use and when comes with practice but here are some tricks I use (nothing new here, every revenant should know this):

- I almost always start on glint with all facets active aside from the elite, with leadership runes you will get loads of boons this way before the fight
- always leave the fury facet ready to stun break, you get extra toughness from hardening persistence as well as the fury
- right before engagement double click F2 for extra boons (protection most important)
- elemental blast (face of elements active) is really strong on this build, drop it on the point in team fights, in 1v1 I usually drop it on myself and then use shield 5, you’d be surprised how many ppl continue to attack you on block with the facet xD
- when getting low, activate the facet of light and do not double press it, you will get nice regen (especially with sage amulet) and people will be really careful around you as they will suspect the active is coming any second, sometimes you will get to decent HP this way and can even skip the heal
- when you do use facet of light, use it and go ham, I immediately switch to Mallyx after I press it and spam banish enchantment 3 times, 9 stacks on confusion is deadly
- try to always combo mace 2+3 to blast might
- use unyielding anguish for mobility and escape (yes, not as good as Shiro but it works), I also sometimes use it to chase people combined with axe 4 you can close some nice distance
- a well timed absorption can save your entire team
- always open with axe 4 when u can, it’s great damage and the chill makes sure they don’t kite you
- use axe 5 to interrupt res/stomp/heal
- do not switch legends unnecessarily this isn’t power rev and you don’t have equilibrium
- with sage/viper you do pretty decent damage on sword, use it to finish off opponents
- you’re a cleaving machine on mace/axe, cleave downed instead of stomping is most of the times the right decision
- if you do decide to stomp and need a safe stomp you have 2 options:
1. Dodge for stab right before the stomp
2. Use facet of darkness active for blind mid stomp

This is just out of my head, there is lots more probably, practice makes perfect.

1. you need to plus one more, you are supposed to be playing rev like a thief who comes in blows people up and leaves once they are downstate to do that at the next point. rev has amazing mobility and burst damage. yes you can 1v1 for days but that is a complete waste when an engi, warr, chrono or even a druid can do that job. burtnik is right and a good rev should have between 300k to 700k dmg if he does what he is supposed to do. props if you keep hitting that 1 mil mark

2. you are using your UA to much in team fights. damage is spread out so it is a waste when you should be saving it as a defensive skill in team fights. in actual high tier play you will never see a rev waste their UA in team fights due to the fact that it is a great defensive move. 1v1 sure use it but might as well sword auto for more damage and save it for defense

3. you don’t use quickness enough.. you barely used it for damage or downstate cleave. re watch some of the esl games and revs utilize quickness on sword along with their shiro heal and absolutely delete people. that is your main source of damage and all the other moves you use outside of their utility for certain situations is just to look cool i guess. for example you used your glint knockback into weapon/legend swap to shiro and staff and used your staff 3.. why would you use staff 3? should have just knockback swapped legend to shiro and sword auto with quickness. wasted your staff block for nothing when you needed damage and not a blind or block.

those are the main things other than the glaring poor choice of outnumbered fights, lack of rotation and plus 1’s, and the other teams terrible engi(engi should not lose that fast to rev or ever lose a 1v1) and a scepter ele who was food to your team… good vid to watch if you want to see some rev gameplay but far from high tier, forums aren’t here for praise but for criticism.. at least that’s how i view it, use it for constructive criticism. hope this helps you

I can’t claim credit on this as I learned this from our elitists EU counterparts nor do I ever require this… but the absolute non fakeable way to check for killproof at least until Matt is to have the person double click their" spirit quest tonic and check that they have the actual buff on thier buff bar.

TL;DR join any “teaching/training” group you can find, they are usually run by very experienced bored raiders.

Lately I’ve been seeing a trend, as people who raid hardcore clear the raid early during the week (most serious raiders I know even make the effort to do so at reset), we are left with not much to do during the rest of the week leaving most of us who like raiding to either PUG or form teaching groups just for fun and helping other people, play a different class we don’t get a chance to play much with our static group or experiment with different team comps.

Lots of teaching groups I have joined or “no exp” groups end up having very few new people (it’s funny when you ask “x up if u need explanation or new” and only 1 person X’s up) and many other very good players who are there for the reasons I stated above.
I have countless examples from the past month of “teaching” groups gone pro, just today I joined a “VG teaching” group with a vanilla longbow ranger and we 2 shot VG, no gear checks, no LI ping, good attitude and good fun (you’d be surprised at the good vibes people have when they don’t really need the kill).

My advice is do not avoid the progression groups, wait for Tuesday onward (let the hardcores get thier clear) and simply join any teaching / training group you can find, more often than not you’ll get a very experienced group of people and get your kill faster even than those who publish for “exp”.

Did you make sure to select glint as one of your legends (at the F1 picker)?
You can’t use any herald skills unless glint is enabled as one of your legends (also make sure herald is selected as your bottom trait line as well).

If I may make a recommendation, I’m running a similar hybrid build for WvW, if you change your gear to viper with durability runes with a few changes in the accessories you can get power and condi duration much higher at the expense of 5% crit, make sure to change between the sets when you check out the stats as I’m using marauder weps for s/sh and viper for the m/a (ignore the sigils they are inaccurate):
