What I have yet to grasp is ANets concept of creating a profession that is almost, but not quite, the king of versatility (i.e. the jester of versatility), make it ‘hard’ for the player to play efficiently, and then, instead of rewarding the player for handling his character well, you get to suffer the ‘costs’ of versatility.
Shouldn’t it be like:
Versatile, hard to play class gets mastered by the player = reward in terms of damage output (=bags).
Instead it is:
Versatile, hard to play class gets mastered by the player = punishment in terms of damage output.
Not talking about the ‘clever use of game mechanics’ builds here of course.
Personally, I played an affliction warlock in WoW, when that class was hard to play.
But if you mastered it, you got the reward in terms of effectiveness (damage output).
Even with Engis bugs (maybe) ironed out (in the future), I don’t understand ANets concept, really.
Red Guard
Oddly enough, if my character stands with its back to a mob and I activate pistol skills, my character turns around and hits it.
Oh this game…

Mini Golems=projectiles=reflectable=enough said.
Why fix an amusing element of the stale WvW, if you can delete it altogether… seems legit.

Why didn’t you reflect? The little golems are projectiles.
Oh… and: Shaking head at the removal of fun items from WvW.
Why can’t you just ‘tone them down a bit’?
Red Guard
Both traits allow us to wily break out of the bracket ANet set for this class. Thrice the keystrokes for 2/3 the impact.
Oh this bracket… Why not get rid of the notion, the GW2 community would need a Jester of Versatility bracket?
Just make it a real profession that can put out pressure (in many forms, not just the creative usage of game mechanics builds or bug/troll builds) like every other profession out there please.
Every time an unintended mechanic is discovered and we begin to feel like a ‘real’, pressure profession, we can see the potential of this profession, just to be denied of it after the following patch. Q_Q
Red Guard
We get weapon stats active while holding a bundle and all kits of course get “toned down a bit”™.
Weird science (why change this in the first place?), but there you go.
Red Guard
Come to think of it, have they fixed any notable bugs for the Engineer since release? I can’t recall..
They fixed the bug with Juggernaut FT being good (stability).
They fixed the bug with Elixir Gun Super Elixir being good (health on tick).
They fixed p/p, although that might have been before release.. I can’t remember.
They fixed some selected tooltips.
Notable bugs that will be addressed in a future patch:
- Pie
- underwater thrown Elixir S duration
- FT cleansing off a condition with Kit Refinement
- Static Shield being active while using other abilities
- Kits being usable under the effect of Elixir S
- tossed Elixir Us Veil being an etheral combo field
- (if weapon stats apply to kits, reduction of damage capability of every kit)
Anything else, that makes the Jester of Versatility closer to being on par with other professions without paying the cost for it? Don’t worry it will be fixed. qq

I’m for balance and that buff-food is bad for balance since it encourages ppl to not care about surviability but go full berserker because the lifeleech is godly.
Personally I’m running about 1600 toughness and vitality here. No bullkitten trollspec.
Thats what I was trying to say. If you run proper spec this food is decent, not insane.
Why am I defending it, or should I rather say, why am I not following the demand to ban it from WvW? I am simply stating my opinion and experience, because that is valuable, most of all if the general judgement about things is quick and biased.
Retaliation is the single reason why flamethrower is so aweful in WvW zergs, and lifesteal is the only thing that relieves that problem.
Don’t forget the buggieness (miss, miss, miss… etc) of it.
I mostly agree with Pannonica, but at the same time, I won’t beat around the bush in saying this thread was inspired by how I see RG playing the game. Everyone, or at least almost everyone, in their guild will be using pie + oil + skale + even the stupid blessing buffs. Do I fault them for playing with maximum efficiency? No. Even if they did not abuse veil or use all the cons, they would still dump truck 95% of disorganized zergs in the field.
Since my guys are on another server since a few days, I can’t tell what they are using at the moment. One thing I can tell you though. We explicitly got denied the usage of, in my opinion fun items, in WvW. For example the golem bombs and the underwater nets. And I can tell you, if there would be anything wrong with using this consumable, we won’t use it.
I personally learned about Pie half a week ago, and I am pretty sure none of us was using it during our last cycle on Piken. At least I didn’t.
And to counter the notion… we’re not fighting GvG because it is easy or trying to make it as easy as possible, we’re fighting because of the challenge. Nothing worse than too easy fights for us, so why one should use stuff that makes it easy, I can’t comprehend.
But thats a different topic all together.
Side note:
Give this food the sigil cooldown and it is going to be as useless as many other nourishments, or as in fact, the sigil. A 66% chance for 325 health every 2 seconds, assuming you use flamethrower? Thats bad nourishment and noone would use it.
Red Guard
(edited by Pannonica.5378)
Of course thats the counter. No damage being done from the Pie user= no healing for him, and as a true glass cannon he has nothing else to heal himself with (except the standard heal, granted). By the way, glass cannon for me is inconsistent without being all glass cannon. If you trait or equip anti CC you’re not glass cannon (in my opinion).
So the counter is being used no matter if Pie or not.. ok. Then there is no problem, is there?
It is just that the guys you fought aren’t very smart apparently. I ran Pie last night and it didn’t take long for the opponents to adjust to me (except for the random roaming nub who never encountered Pie and who didn’t get a second chance to fight me).
Just making the point that in a proper WvW build (i.e. not only running with base toughness and vitality), you will see decent but not insane results from the Pie.
I’m not talking about troll builds. Troll builds are in some way or another OP by definition.
I think it is safe to say you generally will kill upscaled players… Pie or not.
Red Guard
(edited by Pannonica.5378)
The pie is way too strong if you compare to any other food, and is a way too big factor in a fight.
Take two engineer. One with pie, the other without it. Both using Flamethrower.
The pie user will finish with about full hp, and the other one will be dead.
A consumable shouldn’t be so strong. Like other said, you can just go glass cannon and use it, and be a better tank then a +heal specced tank with low damage.
I hope they put an ICD, like everything else. Even If I can easily abuse it right now with my engineer.
In your posts are statements pro fixing the Pie but also pro fixing the Engineer and also pro buff healing power.
Also you can’t go glass cannon Pie against opponents with half a brain really. As I said, if you don’t do damage you don’t heal aka you die. Half brainers will understand this and bye bye Pie.
Using your example: Take two Engineers, one realizes he is fighting a Pie user, switches to CC -> glass cannon Pie user dead in a heartbeat, excuse my pun.
On a general note:
Every time something new or glitchy comes flying (I’m thinking PvE bundles in WvW), people start to totally freak out, instead of switching their brain on and counter properly, until ANet gives in to their Q.
Wow, are we so inflexible?
If anything, the Pie incident shows (again) that +healing is too weak. All +healing gear and all +healing traits are crap because of weak +healing.
Edit: Let me be clear here… glass cannon = no vitality and no toughness above the base numbers. If you run with proper toughness and vitality in WvW (and not some trollbuild) then you will not get OP results from the Pie… you rather get decent results from the Pie, because you will not have insane precision plus power and +crit damage on top.

Could be they are introducing ascended amulets and infusions only for those new tokens, so the FoTM grinders wouldn’t have grinded in vain.
Red Guard
Arpheus, I understand your point.
I just can’t let go of the fact that playing Engi with Pie for me feels like a viable thing to go for as Engi for the first time since a long time. I can feel, I can put pressure on people that see me as free kill. Before that, my opponents were just pulling off their rotation until I’m dead, now they have to actually think.
The downside is of course, other professions that are already powerful gain so much more from the Pie than the pathetic Engi, so it probably will get fixed and it is Bye-bye Pie and scratch that fun build for the Engi.
Although, if you think about it, its ridiculously easy to counter a Pie based character to be honest, and as long as this is the case, Pie is a feature like thieves stealth, only it is accessible to all professions, that they should leave in the game. See next paragraph.
But:
Yeah, the underlying problem is the bad +healing power effectiveness (can only speak for WvW). So the +healing power food is not very attractive, neither is +healing power armor, accessories, traits and weapons (although it exists), and they should fix that, in my opinion.
Edit: Also, it is not a 100% chance to gain health, if you go nuts on precision you have to sacrifice other stats and I don’t know how it is for other professions, but for the Engi it would totally kill the damage. And we already got enough troloBoBCat builds that can take crazy damage; thing is they don’t deal a lot, hence no bags, hence only the warm and fuzzy feeling in your heart, that you support and fill your role as Jester of Versatility but no real reward in the end.

When you got some dude spin to winning in your zerg, just cc him. I don’t see the problem tbh. If the pie user can’t hit anyone, he’s dead meat.

One thing the profession isn’t great at is producing big numbers, so if that’s what you’re after then you’ve probably made the right decision in shelving your Engineer. However, spend a while on this forum and you’ll see that Engineers are actually not in a bad place when it comes to WvWvW, there are a couple of builds in particular that, when used well, seem to be extremely effective, even in spite of the bugs that plague the profession.
Engineer needs thought, planning, attention to skill synergy, and decent timing but if you’re prepared to put in the work then it seems to pay off. Glass cannon is not a build likely to pay off in PvP unless you’re very smart with your utilities and toolbelt.
ETA:
Spended hours on it, and 150-200g on gear
150-200g? Did you buy one set of each armor or something? You can gear up with all exotics for less than 20g.
Good point, spending that amount of gold on gearing is, frankly, unnecessary. One thing you can’t do with an Engineer is buy success.
The thing with a gimmick/gag/support engi is, you won’t get many rewards except the warm and fuzzy feeling in your heart. Talking WvW here.
And the damage builds are not up to par against other professions. This is more obvious whenever we have some bug/feature that subjectively unlocks the situation we are in, like the EG heal bug or Pie atm.
Personally I ate through 5 sets of gear since the release of GW2. Granted, some of it is Karma gear. But my point is, it can get expensive to learn that you’re just the Jester of Versatility.
One thing that occured to me, speaking of the Jester of Versatility is, that maybe ANet never thought of the Engineer to be a main character profession.
Maybe more of a profession people roll when they want to see something different and have fun trolling around with.
Oddly enough this spot is occupied by the Thief right now in my opinion.
Got fed up with difficulty of gameplay or lack of fun on your main? Log to your alt Thief and roflstomp people by playing with your elbows. Better yet, form a group of 5 thieves and ROFLstomp. ;D

All I can say is that Omnomberry pie is FAR better than 15 points into blood magic, which includes siphoning health when you hit, siphoning health when you crit, and siphoning health is 50% more effective. At best with those traits I can heal for 90 on a crit and 32 on a non crit. So if I crit 50% of the time after 10 attacks the pie will have healed for 975 vs my traits healing for 600. On top of it healing better you also get 70 precision so you crit more and proc the food more often.
I am all for having vampire builds in the game and upping the effectiveness of healing power for a lot of builds, but having food that is better than 3 traits combined is stupid.
So you just saved 15 trait points?
On the topic of unbalanced trait points against game mechanics:
Welcome to the wonderful world of the Jester of Versatility, aka the Engineer.
(The lifesteal also bypasses the camp supervisors who still have the buff after being flipped. Fun fact.)
Ok, I got no objections against fixing this.
Red Guard
(edited by Pannonica.5378)
Omnom pie added one viable build to the Jester of Versatilities scarce builds.
It’s either that, or troloBoBCat build. Since everybody can get pie, I say don’t touch it.
And on the topic of qq retarldiation or oh noes, my fast hitting class dies of it… just strip it off or wait. You keep on hitting your opponent when you’re confused?
WvW isn’t meant to be fair. ANet explicitly said that.
Also… why not remove all diversity all together and have only one class with only a fixed set of abilities in WvW so the odds are the same for everybody?
Oh… right.
Red Guard
WvW needs more bundles like these to use not less. They are one of the few things that make the game more enjoyable since nobody cares about pve .They cost gold and u need spend a lot to make some propper damage, not to mention how inadequate they are to use in a quick battel,u are immobile,u need to equip from the inventory and is a gold sinkThey are slow as hell and u must be afk t o get hit by one.Kinda beats the purpois of pvp if uwanna just sit there and watch this comming to you and do nothing but spam skills and wanting it removed.

Only an engineer can outswim his speargun projectiles.
Red Guard
I’m sorry, but due to culling, stealth lasts a lot longer than 4 seconds, and tab targeting doesn’t work.
So, if someone is experiencing culling in relation to thieves, they are in a large group, ie. not alone. This means that no solo thief is a threat to them unless they, and all their allies much weaker players than the thief. In this case it’s quite purely a l2p issue.
Just reporting, I had pistol abilities damaging me for at least a second last night before the thief was visible on my screen, and I wasn’t running in a big group/zerg at that time.
I also often saw the black swirl and no thief appearing on my screen until at least a second later, if at all. I have to add to my report, that there were some strange things going on.
Thief suddenly just stands there, afk, I take a third of his health and suddenly he disappears not reappearing anywhere else (open field). Or disappearing in downed state (not using the small range ‘teleport’) and not reappearing and noone staked him, this might have been alt+f4, but I couldn’t tell, since in these situations I didn’t hit him to get XP or bags in the end. Again: just reporting not complaining.
Also it should be stated how far away from other sprites one must be to be considered ‘alone’, i.e. for no culling to occur.
Red Guard
Had some fights with a thief from adrenaline junkies (actual guild name was with troll letters in it, I think) from gandarra last night and (assuming he didn’t use some sort of timing macro to autoexecute abilities) he did fight well. He was p/p and I think his main strategy in 1v1 was to blind and cripple to kite while dealing damage, coming out of stealth and getting health back when hitting people. Thinking about the fight and why I lost, I realized I had 1. no condition removal ability readied. 2. slow moving projectiles on my part which leads to 3. having to deal with respectable damage, seemingly being applied while he is in stealth; actually being applied by him while in the process of coming out of stealth for about a second or more, while I can not target (click or tab) the thief due to culling, and when I finally could target, my projectiles were easy to dodge for him and stealth it was again. Rinse and repeat.
At that time I wasn’t using the auto targeting option (look in the right direction, see to it that there are no other hostile creatures closer, apply abilities when shots come out of stealth, game should auto target), which left me with an almost non-existent window to play my profession, since my projectiles were hitting empty air once they arrived.
Bottom line, his rotation was solid (assuming it was legit) and predictable. I, although being almost the king of versatility (duh ._.), wasn’t prepared for him, tried nonetheless (why shouldn’t I) and failed.
I might have had a better chance if I would have been able to target him, but thats that.
Oh yeah, fought him as condition/elixir engi with decent gear, and being tired. ^^
Just reporting, no qq.

And since it doesn’t take much for a keep to be contested, people would start permacontesting keeps to disable the waypoint completely.
So the deactivation you propose would backfire and render the waypoint upgrade completely useless in my opinion. But perma-contesting keeps is an excellent game mechanic that (at least in my tier) is horribly underused. It adds a much more interesting element to the siege and defense of keeps. Waypointing into a keep in that split second it’s uncontested isn’t an interesting mechanic. It’s a poor gimmick that doesn’t (as the dev’s like to say all the time) “make the game more enjoyable for all three servers.”
Remember, the fix he’s proposing is just a few seconds delay. Opposing servers can’t see the countdown to know when to hit it efficiently. A keep that’s not under direct, constant assault will still have uptime on the waypoint.
Frankly, the open waypoint gimmick greatly increases the incentive for “circle zerg” behavior that some people are trying to claim removing it would cause. Making assaults on keeps very slightly easier (because those jumping out to jump siege or the suicide cap preventers in lord room can’t just hop back directly into the keep) means that it can be done with fewer attackers (reducing the need for massive zerg attacks) unless the defenders actually bother to attempt to defend it (reducing the people involved in circle zerg attacks).
Yeah, its more interesting to run all the way back to the keep to find it is either being taken or being broken into the moment you finally manage to enter. ._.
I for one find it more interesting to have the chance to get (back) to the fight as soon as possible. But ymmv.
For what reason would one upgrade the keep to have a waypoint then, except for a small reduction in running time during uncontested periods?
Red Guard
Waypoints are currently the most powerful upgrade in the game but there are a few issues.
They are only inactive when the defense quest is active, are you guys planning on disabling them slightly longer than the defense quest to allow attackers to keep the defenders from spawning there just as the defense quest lapses?
For example under the current system I can count down on voip the defense quest and spawn in everyone right as it hits zero and before attackers can reflag the keep.
This is definitely a bug. I’ll see about leaving the rally points disabled for a few extra seconds after the event has completed. That way it just stays disabled if the event starts back up.
I’m not sure ‘fixing’ this would be such a good idea since its tiny uncontested teleport window is a at least a small chance for a better defense of the keep in question and even now it is easy to miss the uncontested phase to teleport into the contested keep.
Waypoints wouldn’t be a defense option anymore, but just be a travel option for the lazy. And since it doesn’t take much for a keep to be contested, people would start permacontesting keeps to disable the waypoint completely.
So the deactivation you propose would backfire and render the waypoint upgrade completely useless in my opinion.
But I think in the end this isn’t open for discussion.
If you see it as a bug, then it is a bug and you fix it until things work as intended.
Red Guard

There was a fun forum topic on polish sites about T1. Blacktide guys were so proud that they achieved T1 (before RG was there). Now they are crying that the server is falling down quickly cause some guilds moved somewhere else.
Thats weird, because before RG joined, BT never was in T1. We joined in Week 42 during the Riverside/SfR/Blacktide matchup (T3), in which BT was rank 2, on a Wednesday.
To be honest, the server is falling quickly, because the spine of the server, namely Xaoc, moved to another game (before any other guilds even thought about leaving the server), during week 48 I think it was.
But, well, thats another topic; just setting the facts straight…. carry on.
Edit: Corrected the date we joined BT. ¬¬.

Hi Mask,
I decided to try this build for WvW because it is already very similar to my PvE build (except I have 10 points into Explosives for Incendiary Ammo). I may have been hasty in crafting a full sex of exotic Carrion armor. I’m finding that I have plenty of health but I think my toughness is too low. I’m taking big spikes of damage. Do you have a minimum toughness that you aim for? Would you mind sharing a more detailed list of your gear (runes, sigils, etc) with a fellow pistolier?
From his first post:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fcQQJAqalspSXnvSeF17IRoC4H0D9mX+K6xjh8kB
6x runes of the adventurer
superior sigil of corruption/superior sigil of earth
armor is mostly carrion, jewels are a mix of coral and chrysocola

Funny enough, I pointed that out in my post (tried at least… I admit I was a little vague, though)…. and he even quoted it. xD

All explained here:
http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/10ilke/how_sigils_work/
Most of it still holds true, except for the engineer not being able to use sigils, obviously.
Red Guard
Yeah, I got locked into an immobile state (that I cured by /sit) when building siege in the past, but I never got the (engineer specific) swap bundle locked state until a few days ago.
Activelty using the built siege and deciding to reallocate things on your toolbar (kits in my case) = locked on your main weapon while being mounted on the siege.
I have the ‘disengage’ button on the right (don’t know the name in english unfortunately), but my buttons 1-5 aren’t showing the abilities of the siege but those of my main weapon. I never get the ‘disengage’ button when being locked into siege by building it.
As far as I remember emotes wouldn’t cure that state. Going to verify this tonight.
Red Guard
Starscream, I read about the hacking before posting here of course and it sucks big time.
But this thread has been sleeping for a month because of apparent reasons and it is clear for everyone BT is finished for the time being, then people used it to say bye then you posted something silly which had nothing to do with the people paying their respect and saying bye just to throw a Kitten at the fan.
And I would have laughed at Skotis post if hackers were apparent since the beginning of this thread and BT would’ve come all this way just because of them. THAT would’Ve been funny. But saying this thread should be named ‘Blackthide hackers report’ without this, is a big disrespect towards those who worked hard to get BT to where it was.
I am sure you understand.
Red Guard
When I’m on a catapult and decide to change a kit on the toolbar (e.g. Toolkit is allocated, and changing it to Flamethrower), I get stuck on the catapult with my main weapon equiped (rifle/pistol) and can’t move or otherwise exit from the catapult.
Only getting pulled by an enemy player once let me disengage from the catapult.
Probably this could happen on any siege. I can’t verify this at the moment though.
So basically: engaging on a siege and reallocating bundles, locks you onto that siege with no way of disengaging by yourself.
Red Guard
Experienced this a lot lately and I thought it would have been a problem for other professions as well (i.e. a game mechanic) and accepted it.
Now I learned it isn’t.
Throwing this behind me on the engineer bug pile and moving on… no point in complaining about or spending energy on this pile anymore, seriously.

@Starscream,
Last BT T1 battle report related post was a month ago when your guild [IRON] with Desolation was still in T3.
So, posting bs in a thread that is completely unrelated to recent hacking events, trying to devalue everything that was achieved by BT before the hackers even started rolling.
Seems legit…
Time to go to the Vabbi thread then and continue the generalizing drama, aye?
I bet you can find some more random threads to continue the flaming and make your guild [IRON] look bad.
@Skoti,
Hackers started rolling only yesterday. Get your facts straight. You ain’t even funny.

To be fair, at least you can nick the golem and waypoint it away
This week is the first week I’ve actively seen supply griefing to the point of 10 rams being built round a supply depot and upgrades being ordered during a siege. If you can’t buy siege equipment when a place is being attacked then why on earth should you still be allowed to buy upgrades that could decimate precious supply?
Only way to combat it, is always carry supply and keep those supply routes open and hope they don’t keep doing it.
The following didn’t took place during a siege:
I think I was present at that time and place, and as far as I remember people were just totally fooling around with siege, being morons for the lols of it, because a big golem army was supposed to be build and everyone was being totally silly. Fooling people into building rams and stuff and generally having fun
The problem is…. when I returned to said spot, pugs were building all the rams… probably just because of sillyness also, but when someone sees this place afterwards, it must have been like seeing a spy supply drain, which it wasn’t.Devs should really implement a function to destroy unwanted siege to get supplies back, but on the other hand, spies would then abuse this mechanic.
I remember ANet saying that WvW would never be fair…. so there.erm u a re aware of the fact, that your solution backfires?
If we are able to destruct siege, spies will destroy your siege the moment their server approaches with a golem rush or so…
Last part of the second to last sentence in my post…. the post you quoted kitten
Ah, what the heck… italic’d it for you in the above. ^^.
