Oh really? Reality begs to differ;
You are absolutely correct. Reality does beg to differ. Do you consider standing in the Mists and shooting a stationary golem in the back reality?
Edit: Oh nevermind, I understand now. You’re a proponent of some sort of “New Reality”. I get it.
I doubt they would be willing to put that much effort into it, let alone the resources to develop, test, and balance such an endeavor.
It’s not like they’ve put any effort into Rangers to date. So if they did now, they just might reach some level of parity.
So you pat yourself on the back for killing terrible players who can’t keep up with the zerg? Interesting…
He always looks for that inkling of a silver lining. That glimpse of a silk purse hidden in the sow’s ear.
And then expands it to infinity.
Im honestly baffled… i cant express my disappointment right now… Is there someone at Anet listening to this?
Yes.
And laughing all the way to the bank. And they will continue to until we hit them where it hurts and force them to listen. We should all stop buying gems and spending money on thier store.
Maybe you should find access to swiftness so you can close a gap? Hmm…if only there was a trait…
Are you suggesting swiftness alone, Chopps? It certainly seems that way.
Forum decorum prevents me from replying to this in the manner it so richly deserves.
The notes were “leaked” for a reason: for the developers to get feedback. We can thank the fanboys and trolls for giving them positive feedback while attacking everyone who criticized the changes for “whining” or being “paranoid.”
You are correct. And as you can see from this thread, that has not changed and never will.
So many changes were made, it’ll be a fun month figuring out new builds
And if you succeed and are successful, it too will get nerfed in the next update. So good luck with that.
It’s an Indefensible change in my book. Chopps and Durzlla surprise me.
Then you’ve apparently not been following these forums for very long.
FWIW, I believe these leaked notes to be true. After reading through the Ranger notes, it simply has that ANet feel to it. By that, I mean the ham-handed attempt at easy fixing a “problem” rather than addressing the root cause. It also takes without giving (which is an ANet trademark when it comes to Rangers). If nothing else, that single fingerprint more than anything else identifies it as their work.
They are, at this point, floundering and clueless how to balance these classes. They’ve no idea how to fix WvW. The list could go on, but why bother. It requires more energy than I’m willing to expend on a game that will soon be deleted.
I said something on these forums about 4 months ago that still holds true. ANet doesn’t balance this game from game play. They attempt to balance it from a sterile lab environment and if it works there, then its fine and dandy. Unfortunately, as we all know, that approach doesn’t work.
I’m curious about one thing. How do you all feel about the Ranger Savior Developer that graced us all with his “interaction” and promised to take pet issues before the balance committee? For those on here that seemed to love him, how’s that working out for you?
Seriously underestimated our ability in open field fighting.
Hmm, AR [Crit] does not verify this statement.
Thanks for the report. I have fixed this on our development environment and it should be in the next patch ~10 days.
A dev on the ranger forums? Go home dev, you are drunk!
It’s ok. They know that by now, Rangers ignore this one.
3pm server time, bring your A game. IoJ windmill at the south camp. Respect your opponents..no spikes no uneven matches(unless requested). Party up with the enemy, learn a few things or teach some folks something new. This is Fight Club, look forward to seeing players from all 3 sides there. (Feel free to let your individual servers know the when and where.)
Dovgan, you are ignoring the First Rule of Fight Club.
1) I’ll spare the math but It would take our company about a year, with everyone dedicated to testing 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, 50 weeks a year to get as much testing time as happens in about an hour in the live environment.
Or just one public test server. But why spend resources to do that when you can get away with using the live servers as your test suite, right?
Some of these bugs are simply so obvious and immediately apparent that one is led to think that there is no testing whatsoever prior to deployment.

10 people from PuG you say?
Not all [PuG]. There were others mixed in, but about 10 all together of various tags. [PuG] tag stood out to me though.
You talking about the tag SBI or [SBI PUGs] Because there is no tag SBI PuGs my comment was to say that he won’t find what he is looking for. In SBI most guilds are PvX so we all play a bit of everything so there is no one Guild he can go GvG to test Open Field battles.
I’m pretty sure the TAG I saw this morning said simply [PuG]. I remember thinking, “How appropriate”.
Guild Tag is SBI PuGs. So you won’t get what you are looking for. There is no WvW guild besides SBI on SBI. The SBI guild worries more about managing the WvW effort and managing the WvW PuGs.
I saw that Tag run over my solo Ranger this morning with about 10 folks when you jammed me right after I killed a thief right outside your Garrison. You’re right though, it did happen in open field.
I would say AR is quite pve bound too along with spvp, we even got pve only commanders. One being me
We still love you though, Axyd.
Btw, he’s the Necro that you all see charging solo into the middle of 50 man zergs. He’s always yelling something though I’m never sure exactly what.
I’d love to fight you all with equal numbers. So far I have seen you 3 or 4 when it is just me :P
If you are that [Prot] Norn Ranger that I and my Thief roaming partner ran into on Sunday, my hats off to you. Came around that corner and boom, we were in a cat fight. Two on one, I think the outcome was a foregone conclusion but you put up a heck of a fight. Afterwards, both of us commented that you were one tough Ranger.
Anyway, despite the slight score differences, it has been a very fun and even match-up over all, and I am going to miss you guys when we all part ways at the end of the week. If you ever want to fight me, whisper me in-game and if I’m not busy I’ll happily oblige. Cheers.
This week has been a breath of fresh air for AR. Both SBI and IOJ have been a welcome relief to the doldrums of Ebay and Borlis for 13 weeks (especially when we couldn’t field half of Ebay’s numbers).
All in all, this match up has been great fun. I wish I could play more.
You are both most welcome.
Even if you have the Order of Whisper’s HQ, aka Chantry of Secrets, and you got from a story mode instance, you need to go back and get it again.
While IoJ’s made their own recovery, AR’s a lot further along in their own recovery, having started a lot further back (late last year) and we started a few months ago. I’m pretty kitten impressed how far AR has rebounded, and how well they’re holding up against SBI and us put together (but mainly SBI).
Given all the beatdowns we took over the last 13 weeks, we turned into scrappers. Last night, on alliance TS, one of the larger guild leaders said he was taking a break to go stock up on soda and hotpockets (or something) and that he wasn’t leaving his computer till AR took SM. I’m at work so I don’t know if he’s succeeded, but I hope he took it, otherwise he might be dead soon.
Is [WAR] having alt night? Because you guys melted! Noticed lots of upleveleds
Lots of fun out in WvW tonight, had a good laugh when you guys were at the centaurs! ><
They are a Karma train (almost always). I think [Crit] properly welcomed you guys to the Tier a few times this weekend though.
Do you have any of those screenshots?
Just like in guild wars 1, where rangers were practically only nerfed, you cant take away our awesomeness!!!!!!
Nerf my bow
Nerf my pet
Nerf stuff I ain’t thought of yet
We don’t care
We won’t fuss
You can’t take the awe from us!
And if someone tries to kill you, well, you just kill ’em right back.
Hello, I finished my last explorable map yesterday and didn’t get the reward for 100% exploration. I checked my map and saw that I didn’t have the new WP in Snowdendrifts (which I completed months ago). Since it was late I thought I log out and do it the next day. When I went out to Snowden today and got that WP I still didn’t get my reward. It’s world exploration on my 5th char.
After completing everything, go back to the Chantry of Secrets and it should pop for you.
now why is AR getting points. simple they are technically doing better than the glicko system thought it would do against a rank 12 (T4) server.
So you do understand that point. And yet, you all persist in trying to continually kitten off AR and keep folks engaged. There were (and are) a number of folks “taking time off” but when we keep getting trolled some folks decide to just keep fighting to simply twist the knife a bit more (because under the circumstances, its all we can do, but we can do that very well).
FYI, we’re tired of this match-up too.
(edited by Pedra.4381)
we get more points and a higher chance to move out of this tier if we stomp the 3rd place server (red)
How’s that working out for you guys? AR is still gaining points.
…Please tell me your playing dumb I dont want to explain something you wont understand.
No, no, no. I AM dumb. Please explain.
This should be really funny.
Edit: I’ll even give you a hint, barring intervention by ArenaNet, Ebay can’t get there without AR help.

I’ve been doing the 95% for some time, but today I hit a couple karma pots and it didn’t appear to give the full 95%. Actually it appeared to give about 45% (booster not working). Anyone else?
There is apparently a bug currently. You can read about it in the Bug forum. It seems the work around is to put on all buffs, log out, and then log back in.
Ah I see… so it’s like walking on water…
No, it’s more like those folks who close their eyes to documented evidence, and tenaciously hold on to their egocentric view of the world. I’m sure you know the type I’m referring to.
Why does everybody believe, that different accounts/characters have different rng-chances? Is that just the human desire to make up some explanation if something is beyond ones understanding? Or is it the attempt to blame karma, destiny, the universe or some random developer for just being unlucky? I will never understand…
See post above. Because it has happened. Because it has not happened in your experience, does not mean it never has nor that it couldn’t again.
(edited by Pedra.4381)
Again: as long as you can’t provide sample sizes of at least a hundred, better some hundred, refrain from assuming any change in any RNG-rate.
I would really be interested in knowing what they use as the RNG seed. Is it tied to anything dealing with character creation? Some characters seem to have extreme luck with RNG and others horrible. I know someone that just found their 3rd precursor (2 drops and one on 7th try with Mystic Forge).
@Archer
I didn’t see you at Ogre in Eternal yet. (As I tolod last week for anyone that wanted to fight)
Afraid boy?
We held Ogre’s all day Sunday. We still owned it when we all logged last night. For all the trash talk about how Ebay and BP take whatever they want, I have to admit after the first couple of failed attempts, neither of them seemed interested in coming back.
stopped reading when i saw the name Jon Peters, nothing good will come out of it.
This. No credibility whatsoever from this developer.
I might be naive… but isn’t this thread title against the rules of conduct?
Only if I do it.
As someone who played Ultima Online, Shadowbane, Darkfall and STILL plays EVE Online…
You are out of your mind. I wouldn’t play a game with perma-death to save my life. Loot dropping? Yes. Loot and EQ dropping… sure, why not? Deleting my character? gtfo.
Did the hardcore mode of Diablo, was fun but different dynamics and not my cup of tea for long term play.
I’m a huge fan of both pre-trammel UO and Shadowbane because you could loot gear. It made you think about the odds a lot more. And enforcement of player behavior could be handled by players.
In UO it was possible to earn those perma-binding chits so you could keep your favorite weapon or armor but those were hard to come by and did nothing to protect all the other stuff you were required to carry to survive. I believe the most fun MMOs do have consequences to death.
Well, I for one, am terribly impressed.
I am impressed with the economist’s continual communication and efforts to resolve the problem. Kudos.
I’m impressed that it was “fixed” (or reverted).
I’m impressed that the community identified the issue and took efforts to get it resolved.
I’m impressed that the company that routinely tells us that bugs are hard to find and fix (and that said fixes take extensive testing) was so quickly able to identify this specific bug and fix it (almost as fast as if they knew exactly what it was).
Yes, truly impressed.
What I’m curious about. What behind the scene changes to the “player driven” economy were being attempted that resulted in this bug? Where were those patch notes? Yes, it makes me wonder.
Some may be skeptical if they haven’t interacted with me before, and that’s ok, but as long as I’m working with the economy, information on ecto changes will be public, end of story.
Hmmm, I wonder if he’s still working with the economy???
Perhaps I wasn’t clear, but ultimately more damaging to the players.
Maybe I’m reading too much into your post, but are you suggesting excess supply, like the example I gave at the end of the post you quoted, would be a good thing for players? Care to elaborate on that if so?
I’m suggesting that excess supply would be more damaging to the company’s “business model” (less conducive to channeling players towards the store to purchase gems) and because of that those sorts of issues get the immediate attention of said company.
Our arrows will blot out the sun.
Then we shall fight in the shade.
Fair enough… however, it may be worth considering that excess supply into the economy is potentially more damaging than deficits and therefore warrants more immediate action.
Damaging to whom? The answer to that is the crux of this matter.
Well back when unidentified dyes were dropping like rain, fix and response were very quick, and loot still sucks in 38+ FotM, so defend them more please.
But here’s the problem, when ArenaNet consistently takes IMMEDIATE action to fix game issues that affect YOUR economy and yet seems to show little interest in fixing major game issues for us, we start to lose faith and that leads to a bad place. It could be argued that the very long lead time to fix the blocking issues with “The Gates of Arah” are intentional actions because they could lead to a positive outcome in your economy. It’s been blocked for over a week on Anvil Rock. There’s a dichotomy there and unless someone explains it, you leave us to draw our own conclusions.
Some things are worth repeating.
Given the time lapse since the economist started looking at this, and given the vast tools at his disposal to look at the economy, I doubt it has taken him this long to determine if there’s a problem. I suspect he has determined it (whatever “it” is), probably fairly quickly, and now he and others are figuring out how to “explain” it.
Anyway, I feel as though John will be thorough and we will get an answer soon.
I suspect he did a cursory look, saw something that piqued his interest, and moved on to a deep dive.
Whatever the public answer, I think it’s going to be interesting.
Changes to important things like salvage rates would be listed in the update notes if they have changed. If it’s not in the update notes, then no changes have been made by the development team.
That seems carefully worded to not really address the concerns expressed in this thread.
Yeah I was so wrong, you guys were totally ready for tier 4 with these tactics. Man I would be super proud. (Let the 1 spam flow through you, nice initial wipe too, gg)LOL.
Not a jimmie was rustled (we know you prefer fighting doors to people). Besides, we took the keep back with 8 while EBay bravely attempted to spawn camp.
If you were in Eternal, remember, Ebay has told us they don’t have any real Commanders there.
80 Clovers from 22 tries of the 10 recipe. And I was really happy with the amount of tier 6 mats I got from the 14 “misses” (including 10 Corrupted Lodestones).
If you aren’t happy with those changes, I’ll be more surprised than the Imperial Japanese Army was by Marshal Georgy Zhukov at the battle of Nomonhan. I think that fits the criteria. Sort of.
So Mr. WvW developer (I can’t say developer names or I get infracted), I take it you’re extremely surprised?
Considering the direction you all went with changes to A/C and Thieves, if we are pleased, I’ll be as surprised as Admiral Zinovy Rozhestvensky at the Battle of Tsushima Straits.
I must admit, I’m not.
ArenaNet does not control Gold to Gem prices players do.
And you believe this why?
why would you believe otherwise?
Because a truly player driven economy would be counterproductive to the company’s monetary goals. And the economy guy gets paid way too much to let anything in this arena be out of his control.
Why do you believe it is?
so now .. my new WvW tactic – lure them into the water and wait for the “Ranger is too OP in water” whinging!
I do this now when I want to troll whole groups that are chasing me.
But, with that said, I hate underwater combat.
