Weapon Swap for Rev in 1 word:

Pompeia.5483

I am running mace/axe and sword/axe and put aoe-torment on the sword.. hit #3 and mass torment on a mob of units. Then back to mace again since rest of the sword stuff does not seem useful for condi build. Seems fine to me >.>

Need opinions on sinister build

in Revenant

Pompeia.5483

I have basically the same idea for my sinister build but I am using a little more survivability so I can Leeroy more often.

Same runes on armor and those sigils for mace/axe

Devastation: All top row for World bosses and team-based events where getting on side/behind is easy. Same as yours for solo’ing content.
Invocation: Fierce infusion is the same but, instead of your two I have Invigorating Howl so I get a heal off everything and Charged Mists since it is fairly easy to hover between 30 and 60 energy and stack might.
Corruption: Demonic Defiance because it really is required for survivability, Bolstered Anguish because we have so many condi self-casts might as well, and Pulsing Pestilance because of the same reason as BA.

As for weapons, I will keep axe because of #5 and slot a single sword for weapon swap to allow me to do fun things with #1 and #3 (like mass-heal with Shiro’s heal). I do not like off-sword because, in a torment build, you want your enemies to move and take more damage, not stick them to the ground. On that sword I might have something to help stack vuln or increase its duration… not sure yet.

On another note:
Did you make all the Sinister gear for the weekend? I do not recall seeing it as a stat choice in the gear we had last time (which was a serious disappointment). I wanted to make it as well but just have not had the time to farm badges.

Impossible odds?

1 second of swiftness? 1? No, really…1?

Impossible Odds is a pulsing quickness and super speed while you are upkeeping the skill.

Does it trigger the cd of legendswap when out of combat? I’m curious to know if we are going to be able to use it (almost) permanently while ooc.

It’s not intended to be constantly used out of combat, but I think in the version you all get to play this weekend that you’ll be able to do what you said..

Intended or not, it makes me giddy to use it that way because it fits into my image of making my vampire/demon hybrid character. Would certainly make me play GW2 for ever… and ever… and ever…

Going full on human female demon/vampire because it will pair with a character in a book I wrote. Will be interesting if I can manage the torture build with all the heals from Shiro though.

Thief shortbow has the poison field and cluster bomb, does that not count? Also, technically steal with traits is condi as well and has a low enough cooldown it can be similar to Guardian F1.

The Trapper Ranger.

Has anyone else stopped running a trap-based ranger because they no longer have ranged and to use them you have to close in on your target all the time? I am feeling that my condition build suffered a lot from losing that trait and not having it made implicit like the wells for necro. It was why I originally went condition-trap in the first place… and why I liked playing ranger. Now I am not so sure

Any chance this might get fixed (like it was an oops) or was there some sort of reasoning behind this (no one really used the trait over all ranger builds)?

Am I missing something? Shiro traits

Yeah… it was why I quit WoW and played Rift for so long. The countless number of builds makes the game an actual challenge since you have to refine it for so many situations and can have any playstyle you enjoy!

NOT Using Shiro?

Pompeia.5483

I enjoyed the DoT’s (torture and poison) from Malyx so I will likely run that with either Shiro for more dps or Ventari for emergency heals. Then it would be mace/axe and s/s since I was not overly impressed with hammer or staff. Just means no Megadestroyer for me I already plan to have givers weapons and sinister armor/jewelry, should be fun.

Honestly, I have never really gone with the “use this or gtfo” builds that folks call up for dungeons and PvE (which I do 95% of the time). My DS Necro uses Clerics set and would use Zealots if I could get the ascended recipes. I out-survive and tank everyone and can revive them at will if needed. Some times that turtle really does win the race

Revnant Torture Build (Demon Legend)

in Revenant

Pompeia.5483

I tried to search for ‘demon’, ‘push back’, ‘push’, and look for a feedback area but did not see it… please move if I posted in wrong spot, thanks

Anyhow. I tried a mace & axe combo with Demon build this weekend and, unlike others, did not see much issue with the overall DPS. What I did see, that concerns me as well as many other melee players, is the annoyingness of the pushback part of the torment & teleport utility skill. As this is a melee build that is heavy on DoT and, specifically, Torment, that skill is fairly essential to building up stacks.

However, the skill has two flaws…
1) Pushing enemies back outside the range of the mace/axe and forcing us to run back to our enemies (or use the teleport skill (4) from axe) to get back to attacking. This also compounds in that it makes other melee characters in the game have to constantly move about to keep attacking. In talking with a coworker who plays a melee warrior, he agreed it was annoying (and map-chat said something like “we are being Revnant trolled!”). He also pointed out that hardly anyone uses the ranger longbow skill with pushback when working with melee teammates. When using a build that requires lots of stacks of Torment as its primary DoT damage, not using this skill would be a serious detriment to damage output.
2) Skill applies cripple, making it even harder to run back to your enemies and keep swinging! If it was a ranged build, this would seem to make more sense but, as melee, it seems to be far too detrimental. I am not sure what a better self-applied condition would be to continue the theme, but maybe something like a bleed/burning for a teleport “cost” (think friction/burn of energies to move in and out of the mists).

As I have seen in a few other posts, though, the other two utility skills are indeed fairly unhelpful in the build.
— I like the condition transfer one because it lets you move the condition your skills apply to yourself (use ultimate and move the torment to the enemy, for example) but only moving one as a time with that large of an energy cost needs a bit of work (I am not sure what). At first I read that it transfered the one condition to five targets (not sure how, but I did) and thought it was really cool. Maybe that would redeem the skill if we could mass apply the condition. Then we stick to the semi-aoe nature of the build.
— The one that applied confusion? I doubt I ever even used it at all because I saw no good situations for it. When the detriment is blindness (I believe that was the one) it defeats the next damaging spell used (including, if I understand correctly, the condition transfer) unless you wait it out. For a condition build, there is a high change you would want something akin to Givers to extend condition duration (or the runes that do the same), which would only make you wait longer and lose out on even more DPS.

If I could look at my character, I would tell you the armor I used since I did not see the damage as being that bad and was, actually, stealing aggro from others just fine. However, it basically consisted of Berserker chest, Dire/Carrion/Rabid for everything else. Had I known the last “chest” had runes, I would have tried it with the Torment runeset but, sadly, stuck with Dolyak that was default.

Overall, I had fun with it and hope they can make improvements to bring it up to par with other DoT-specced professions. My shortbow ranger still kills things way faster, after all.
