Nightfall and Well of Darkness

I would guess nightfall on GS build for blind as… well, a blind.

Well of Darkness on a Chillomancer build combo’d with the trait that makes blinds also do chill.

I do not bother with GS on a condi build because scepter/focus has most condi’s, and staff as alt has chill and fear that can be traited to do condi damage… in addition to the bleeds and poison.

Something else I just noticed… this skill is actually a LOT more like the Guardian’s Judge’s Intervention (I bet it uses the same teleport code because I just went through some rocks), which can do the same stuff but at a 45 second cooldown… so, really, slow your roll, kids.

How good/bad is sinister/viper rev? Any numbers?

I am doing wonderfully fine with my fully decked-out sinister Revenant. Given a good rotation (I do not recall what I used) you can get ticks to hit ~10k+ when the target moves. With how much kiting you can do in PvE, even in the events, the targets move plenty so it is inconsequential. For stationary targets like Tequatl, you are going to be stuck with 4-6k (again on a good rotation). I also never bother with the elite… just not worth it, really. You are better off waiting till ~80 energy and then spamming Anguish three times with mace 3, axe 5, and mace aa.

I average 3-5k when I am dodge rolling and avoiding mobs after pulling aggro during a good rotations. Also, this is only counting torment. The burning stacks you apply are roughly equal to stationary torment and the poison stacks are about 1-2k depending on the amount of times you use mace AA in full and the poison trait in the corruption line with the excessive ICD.

Keep in mind my observations are from exotic armor and weapons and ascended trinkets. I am sure the 8-10% from weapons and 5% from armor being ascended might make it, in elitists eyes, legitimate… but I am not so worried about that right now. Not like it is required in raids or any other PvE content outside fractals.

Also, keep in mind, I have no clue what my might stacks were at the time but I always have 25 stacks of +10 condi damage. I also use runes of tormenting to help build up stacks… I know, by myself, I can maintain well over thirty easily. I am guessing, with proper Glint management, you can keep up reasonable might too. I also have the sigil of +6% condi damage.

Considering I could map-complete all non-heart stuff for each map in about 40min with this… I am not too opposed to the cool-down imposed. I was already basically having to wait for my energy to refill at times but… I dunno if there was a difference, overall. This just means that I have better energy regen between casts so I can use it five times in a row instead of just three before having a significant wait of ten seconds. (My math could be way off on that… I am thinking with a migraine.)

In addition to what meepeY said, you can also target enemies on the other side of walls and up cliffs and then leap through/up it to them… This skill is still, even with the cool-down, by far the most abusable and ridiculous mobility skill in the game.

Labjax :: think of the LA JP’s with a glider. Then you will know. Also the Pig Iron one or w/e it is called where you go downward across the mine carts. Also a few others were you go up and down… Oh, and do not forget the racing one where you take the bomb through the puzzle from up high to lower through the birds. Imagine that one with a glider! Just… no.

If they were to enable gliding in main Tyria, they would have to make map changes and, within the region around JP’s, disable them so you cannot fly in nor fly while inside the space reserved for it. That would likely mean something akin to a large invisible-wall & ceiling box which is never a fun thing to witness.

Ultimately, we will just have to adapt to the overall theme of each map with its massive event chains (which does show up in the progress bar on the right) as an indicator.

Luckily, I have yet to be a victim of this outside of BWE1 when I tried to glide from the bank/TP of DR down to the repair guy. It only took once to learn my lesson. If I do not see loads of vines and mordrem, I do not use the glider. (Note: there are none in Dry Top and you can not get that high in SW outside the JP or the center fort for it to matter.)

I was wondering if anyone had information (more than what meager amount is in the tooltip/description of it) as to where these merchants can be found.

Are they in towns only or am I going to need to search with someone that has maps completed? If no… is Orr part of central Tyria? Is DT or SW part of core Tyria?

Is there an icon on the map that denotes these merchants or are we going to have to basically play hide-and-seek through all these MASSIVE area’s of land to find them?

Do they move once a day or once a week? I seem to recall the video say they change location each week but still want to be sure… in case it changed.

Corruption Trait Line Getting Updated?

in Revenant

Posted by: Pompeia.5483

Pompeia.5483

Hi Roy (&| Roy’s team),

Due to the significant change to Mallyx’s play-style between BWE2 and BWE3, a couple of the traits are, effectively, useless (I cannot think of any play where they would be handy off hand).

Bolstering Anguish, especially, is heavily reliant on playing against a condi player/mob and knowing that before-hand so you can use it against them as we no longer self-apply conditions when using utilities.

Pulsing Pestilence is in the same state… though, now that we no longer self-condi, you could potentially remove the trigger chance and keep the ICD.

Also, you mentioned a trait to help torment do more damage to stationary targets… could you place that in here now instead of one of the above?

Then there’s still the high ICD of Venom Enhancement (20s). Are you simply watching things to see about lowering that to something more reasonable? It feels, to use your favourite word, lackluster, as it stands. I almost wonder if something along the lines of 5-10 would remain okay.

Hmm, based on what I see on the site, the burning duration is 4s (cooldown is 3s) and the extension only puts it up to 5.75. Regardless of which one I do (only looking at moving damage for torment) there is a ~500 damage increase (comparing one swing of mace #1 to mace #2). Thus, because I have one (traited two) items that apply burning and five skills (seven counting the other two mace swings) that apply torment, I want the extra 500 damage x5 (x7) instead of x2

Sadly, yes, burning does about 10% more damage than a moving target with torment, but there are just not enough applications of it to warrant the duration increases for it.

Today, when doing the Faren event chain, we came up the final ramp toward the wyvryn area and he bugged out.. sticking to the right (south) wall from about mid-way on that last ramp to the top and then going up that little edge there. Never did the wyvryn spawn or event chain finish. I did a /bug report of the same in game and it has the screenshot of him hugging the wall like a dirty coward. I was on Katereyna at the time (if that helps you find it).

Also, when gravedigger, traited with souleater, does a killing-blow, we do not get HP/life-leech from it.

“I am running a condi revenant and love it. It is a bit awkward in spots but otherwise handles things well and kills quickly. I, unlike the others, will be dropping invocation once I get Harald”

Do tell…what issues and whats the build? I tried Condi with my Necro but just didn’t like the feel but am keen to give it a go on my Rev if its decent enough.

Here is the build I am using:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vlEQRApX8nnvNeNS6JvJRZlLlsryjSYVZSJYssrkFNFhNc64tLC0ItToTA-TxRBABGcSAke/R9HqV+18DAQSlgAcEAcW/QAgDgdrbdrbw4jP+4jPeXv7u7u7uBA-e
Only the trinkets are actually ascended for me… rest is exotics.

My issue is with ranged fights, really (or fights where melee is less than optimal because of stomps and things). Hammer just does not work for me or condi. And condi is so insanely melee oriented you run into those problems of having to sit at range and only use axe #5 and, sometimes, mace #2 and #3 (being careful not to bounce into range but let the ripple carry to the enemy). I would have been fine with a long-ranged condi given, to my knowledge there are none (besides ele, maybe?) in game. So I guess it is just tough in that aspect.

I suppose I can shift my build around a bit but, until I have the heal from Herald that lets me stay in melee, I am stuck with less-than-favorable tactics to compensate.

Gravedigger & Souleater Bug

in Necromancer

Hey, so, just a quick bug report here on the forums since I have heard /bug in game is practically useless. Also, this way others can test it out to confirm (maybe someone with YouTube skills can make a vid of it).

When using Gravedigger with the Souleater Trait (life-leech on hit) it works fine in all but one case. The killing blow.

I tested this on numerous mobs while waiting for Tequatl and continually found this bug repeatable. Healing is fine on all but that kill-shot swing. Perhaps the “effect” is triggered during the wrong part of the skill. I am not sure… but I know it hit successfully because there is no recharge afterwards.

Caveat to the below: I only play PvE so cannot say for PvP.

Reaper is about what I expected it to be (and, given I tested it in beta events, no surprises there). Now that I unlocked chill damage, I am able to solo a lot more content than I could before. I found some bugs with the greatsword so not using it (not that it helps with my condi build) but you can abuse the hell out of Gravedigger with world bosses and, well, anything with a large HP pool. You mix this with the traits to do chill when blinded and damage from fear and you come out REALLY strong condi (still have Epidemic traited to spread it all and melt mobs.)
I would say, with the added damage type, and using Well of Darkness to both blind and chill on a pulse, you can take out large hordes in no time… on your own. I have yet to test it in a large group with others applying chill to see if that is overwritten like back in the pre-1500-stack limit of condi’s. If it is, something I will suggest gets worked on.

For reference, here is my build that is working just fine in HoT maps (though all but my staff and trinkets are exotics): http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vRUQNAW7dnc0AV2gd3AG1A0bilgBLuIuEjiUXhtQvKKBEAiAA-TRSAABFcRAU4BA4z+DYr8TadDAcEAsWdlSVpwSlgBAOAY3AA-e

As for the Revenant. It might still be a bit early to tell on her but she feels fully capable of surviving and killing with pure sinister. The majority of my deaths have just been from falls, not mobs. I even solo’d the Mad Kind Dungeon with her. Getting around with Shiro is amazing and then swap back to Mallyx for damage. I almost might consider not using Herald but… not sure yet. In beta, I always had Harald.
There is, also, still plenty of work to be done as they did a half-hearted fix to Corruption trait line after they changed how he would behave between BWE2 and BWE3. Roy still needs to remove a few of the traits that applied to the old methodology as well as put some sense into the ICD of the poison damage trait (20s is ridiculous and basically useless). He also mentioned a trait to increase torment stationary damage to help in PvE but I guess that is still in testing.

I cannot say much to the others because I only had enough hero points on my necro to get sufficiently far there. From what I hear on Ranger forums, however, Druid got nerfed to the substrate again so I will put that spec off till Raids and wanting to be a healer (and having Zealots/Keepers gear).
Same goes for daredevil. I just got her to 80 and had only enough to unlock the spec. However, I imagine she will be fun still and gain even more survivability with the dodges.
Then there’s my engineer. I only really wanted to replace rocket turret with the cleansing gyro but I have yet to even take her into HoT xD.

So, for all the rest… I will let someone else reply.

Hope that helps!

Pompeia.5483

Now that Reaper is unlocked enough to let me do chill damage, I have been doing pretty much just events to work on masteries. Even found a JP (or I think it was… there were a lot of jumps) that was exciting. The adventures things are fun as well (Ley-Line race is amazing as hell and I got 47 seconds—will go back to beat Byron or w/e with his 34 seconds).
Really, all the hero challenges can be done with two people if not solo’d if you have enough healing ability. I was even in full sinister with apothecary chest/legs and solo’d about 1/3 of them. Then I got with that one other person and we flew through several maps and got about 5-8 each of the first three. Also, if you just ask in map chat if folks want to do a hero point, you will get enough to join you.

As to the OP’s #1 about Dragon Hunter. I agree it is not worth taking the trait line for what it provides. I have a power/burn hybrid build and it does not benefit me any. So, instead, I did the initial 60 points to unlock it and get the achieve and weapon skin and then will not put any more in there. Maybe another Guardian elite spec in the future will be more interesting. Also, there are (and were during the beta) plenty of complaints about the spec. I still see people using traps out there so some enjoy it.

However, need to get Roy to fix a few of the traits that are left-over from the old self-condi thing it started with (which was oddly similar to necro’s and yet people called it unique). That and the 20s ICD for the poison damage adept is still fairly pointless. I am still hoping he puts in the increased torment stationary damage trait.

Pompeia.5483

I am honestly surprised it is classified as a bug.

- veterans here have done core open world PvE so many times they most likely never want to do it again
- dungeon and FoTM (the somewhat challenging stuff) XP has been nerfed
- HoT only progresses HoT masteries
- everyone loved running Labyrinth not only for loot, but for experience last year

It makes so much sense to think “oh look, we’re launching Tyria masteries and Labyrinth at the same time, everyone gonna boost them there, let’s check if it works!” that when I saw it didn’t work, I naturally assumed it was intended.

But since it is a bug, may I suggest adding several large chunks of experience in a new Halloween achievement for everyone who has finished the meta event and goes on doing the Lab? Or it can be a collection from some account-bound drops or something.

What I have seen several others say, and I kinda agree with, is it is not, in fact, a bug but fully intentional so you do not max out your masteries on the first weekend. There is no way it was unintentional. They just say it is a bug to try to waylay our concerns (and bug reports?).

Oh well, once I get the achieves I am done with it since I got my thief to 80 finally.

Then there’s the ones that are, doubtful, possible by less than five people but the maps are so dead that is not going to happen. Is there something I am missing to do those without having to do that? At least events automatically complete and leave the screen.

Is this something Joel never does so he missed it? I would REALLY love to have it automatically “click” chests while in the mode.
Similarly, looking at the chat pane (if it all scrolls by so fast you miss something) needs this to happen so we can get the mouse back since it does not count as a new window that will swap you to mouse mode momentarily.

I almost feel like action camera is not quite ready and not sure if it is worth using…
I find myself turning it off and on so frequently that I might as well just not use it and go back to holding the right mouse button.

So much for thinking this would be sensible and that the math would have made it possible… so much stuff is locked behind high-end masteries that it feels like I will never be Reaper/Harald/Druid by the end of the year… I think it is time to just play Halloween and forget the HoT area’s.

100% Rep Guilds & the new Guild Chat System

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Pompeia.5483

I have three guilds… none of them require 100% rep. It is the first question I ask before joining a guild because, honestly, it is BS in a system allowing five to be joined. I used to just hit accept on all invites but then people would annoy me when I would not rep so I would leave because I was not interested in that crap when I do some guilds for theme and others for friends.

Sure, one guild is dead… one is social only… and one is PvP/WvW (which I am not on their server nor do I PvP). Now I can happily chat to the two instead of having to non-stop swap between them. Just need to find a good PvE/Raid guild now.

Edit cuz of silly censor…

For those using time converters, Heart of Thorns releases at 12:01AM PDT, not PST, October 23, 2015.

@Pompeia, here’s the quote:

Tonight, October 22, beginning at 7:00 p.m. Pacific Time (UTC-7) and running until October 23 at 12:30 a.m. Pacific Time (UTC-7), we’ll be counting down the final hours until the expansion launches.

They will be streaming for five and one half hours.

Another example of Daylight Savings time ruining lives…. can we get rid of it yet? Thanks for the correction Inculpatus

Lol. For Americans, yes, in about a week. =P

Personally, I would rather keep Daylight Savings Time year-round. Never been a fan of it getting dark at 4PM.

I think what they meant was the obnoxious need to change time twice a year. Not having to do that is the only good thing about living in AZ. Maybe, some day, they will abolish the out-dated system.

Do a chest run (Gendaren fields, Harathi, few other maps) with chests behind bosses and, if you like, JPs too. You can do this daily as they “reset” their rewards then.

Everyone seems to forget there are skins/runes/sigils in that count too… and likely near the end of the unlock. So you do not have to do as much as you think you do to unlock all the traits/skills to use the spec. I would guess anywhere between 250-300 for that and the rest for the cosmetic stuff. Needs less panic

The only issue is, for alt’s that are played casual, you may not see an elite spec in a long while.

738 spread across nine characters. Major sad.

My mains have…
Necro – 205 (Need her to Reaper)
Engi – 88 (Wanted her to Scrapper but it can wait)
Guard – 102 (Not gonna DH so meh)
Ranger – 63 (Druid for alt-spec so meh till raids)
Revenant – 0 (Need Harald so… tears)
Thief – 46 (Gong Daredevil… but have two unlocked trait lines that I do not want…)

So, yeah, this news… not cool… but I will figure it out somehow -=shakes fist at ANET=-

Based on what I read from https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/countdown-to-launch-live/ that means 1230 PM, not AM :/

Yeah, I specifically made a numbers post in the big QQ thread but I am sure it got lost in the chaos.
If we presumed equal balancing, it is roughly twenty points per. However, we can make the educated guess that they weight the skins more (we can pretend 50+) which puts the rest down to about what they are today (baring the original sixty to unlock).

203 with eight left in WvW maps and two more in dry-top. That would make 213 so either there is another hidden one on the non-map-completion maps or I lost one somewhere.

The only ‘headache’ in doing it for your alts is having to unlock all the other trait lines.
The only ‘headache’ in doing it for your mains is having to play.

I admit, I was hating this whole thing till an hour ago when I broke it down in Excel and ran some numbers.

So does that mean we just got to wait and see in two days, I mean I’m all for speculation, but if what the point in turning that mole hill into a mountain if we are not even facing the right direction.

Yeah, that is what I am guessing… it got blown out of proportion from poor communication (which everyone is a victim of). I will not stress about it till the day comes. Of course I will be sad about my Revenant, but I can just play my Chillomancer until I unlock the mastery needed for enough HPC’s to get it. Besides, Herald was just a better form of Invocation anyhow (for condi)

I gave them the benefit of the doubt on thinking the specs themselves are worth more than a simple cosmetic item. However, also adding a weapon to the equation would help balance the numbers more.

If it is weighted toward the amenities and not skills/traits, then it is likely no different to any other trait/skill line today baring that initial 60 unlock.

But, another fun guess… only further proving the point it is not as huge a headache:

………60
A…….6……………….H……4
A…….6……………….U……8
A…….6……………….U……10
………..8……………….U……10
M……8……………….U……12
M……8……………….E……14
M……8
……….10………………Rune……….30
G……14………………Sigil…………30
G……14………………Armor…….60
G……14………………Weapon…60

Because I have a feeling at least half of the upset players would cool down if they just told us the layout, in numbers, to unlock traits, skills, sigils, fashion-wars items, etc. I will perform some math magic™.

I, honestly, have no problem (for my mains… alts I casually play are a diff story and will likely still remain unplayed because of these shenanigans) if the traits and skills are around 250-300 because I can see getting the GM traits in HoT as not as big a deal… except for like Daredevil or Reaper where the main idea behind the Elite spec is the GM.

However, if the GM traits end up being that 400 point item (falsely? assuming a linear path for all things elite and thus breaking the mold of skills and traits being separate) well, I hope my aforementioned box of kittens with Rabies run rampant in the home of the person that made this choice.

So… if we get someone (the mastermind behind this) to, perhaps, be kind enough to fill out this table… that would be brilliant.
(Also, we can see this as a better breakdown of where those 400 points go. We can also make assumptions based on previous traits on the order we have to get things—top down in lists == left → right on skill-bar.)

Elite-Spec Minor 1 = 60
Elite-Spec Adept 1 = ?
Elite-Spec Adept 2 = ?
Elite-Spec Adept 3 = ?
Elite-Spec Minor 2 = ?
Elite-Spec Major 1 = ?
Elite-Spec Major 2 = ?
Elite-Spec Major 3 = ?
Elite-Spec Minor 3 = ?
Elite-Spec GM 1 = ?
Elite-Spec GM 2 = ?
Elite-Spec GM 3 = ?

Elite-Spec Heal = ?
Elite-Spec Utility 1 = ?
Elite-Spec Utility 2 = ?
Elite-Spec Utility 3 = ?
Elite-Spec Utility 4 = ? (Not on Revenant so… do they cost less? Nah, likely costlier for each level… more BS!)
Elite-Spec Elite = ?

Rune ~
Sigil ~
Armor Item ~

So 340 points distributed over… seventeen skill/trait things and three cosmetic.
If we made the (obviously false) assumption it was evenly distributed, that means about twenty each. Thus, if you only wanted the trait line (and assuming skills remains equally separate like today) that means you need only 280 total points there. Which is, well, reasonable, as we already have 200-215 on a fully HP-complete character.
Then there are another 120 points for skills. Arguably, you only want one or two of those… and you can make due with just a couple. If you look at previous streams, and the order we have seen in the current skill lines, you know how many points you need to unlock your skills of choice. Though… if you (only) want that elite… then you gotta get em all anyhow.

Now, of course, factor in that they may or may not weight the rune/sigil/armor the same as the skills and that points of the elite-spec trait and skill lines increase as they progress, you now get the feeling of how much for each set of stuff. Sure, we have to fully unlock all the other (the only real mistake in this system) traits first, but it does not mean you have to fully unlock the Elite Specs to get what you want out of it… new game-play.

Lastly, given the previous “standard” we have of roughly doubling amounts as we go along and I would give the following rough assumption of what everything costs:

A1 – 5
A2 – 5
A3 – 10
`2 – 10
M1 – 20
M2 – 20
M3 – 20
`3 – 30
G1 – 35
G2 – 35
G3 – 35

H 5
U 10
U 10
U 10
U 20
E 30

Rune 10
Sigil 10
Armor 10
