Soraya Mayhew – Thief

I’m trying very hard to look at this new trait system through the eyes of a new player, and every time I do I feel like I’m looking at a barrier to entry. Its as if someone told me the moment I turned 21 i could go to a bar, and then once I’m 21 and waiting in that line the bouncer looks at me and goes, "well you can come in, but you can only buy water and these 2 drinks you don’t like until you are 26 years old, then you can buy one of these 2 other drinks you might like. Your other option is you pay a $300 fee and you can buy any of the drinks you DO want from list A, but you can’t get anything from lists B and kittenil you are 30 and 40 years old respectively. You’ll also have to pay a nominal fee at those ages to get access to those drinks as well.
After that though you can mix and match whatever drinks you like as much as you like.
Well, that’s nice, but I kinda wanted to experiment with those other drinks while i was still young to better refine my tastes as I grow older and certainly not for those prices.
they already said that wasn’t going to happen. And if it did, then my only real reason for playing the game as much as I do now would be ruined.
Anet: you done goofed.
I am what many might call an altaholic. I have a thing about making and leveling alts, even if i have a solid level 80 of that class simply because it helps me re-learn things about the class that i might have ignored or what have you.
I used to drop some money on gem cards too just to get a new slot here and there. I have 2 sub level 30 alts at the moment that might not ever see level 80 thanks to the new trait system, and worse (for you) i won’t be dropping anymore money on gem cards. I’ll def keep playing my level 80s for now.
Maybe you’ll come to your senses and see how bad this is. if not, then congrats on the loss in revenue. I know I’m not the only one. :/
And if it was NCSoft pulling your strings on this one, then shame on them for sinking this ship.
I’m kinda irked since my boons for days Guardian was not only my main, but the one i got my commander tag on BECAUSE he was a boon monkey that could support that well from the front line. Now the build is nerfed and I am left with a commander that doesn’t “work” the same way. I’m really not happy about that.
Another option is to make these traits unlockable through something in PvE, WvW, and PvP each so a player can decide if they are a 100% whatever player, which one they want to do to unlock that trait and not foce people into modes they are not willing to play in.
Oh I know. Its going to be horrific for them out there, and all so they could get a tier 2 trait unlock.
Anyone else looking forward or “looking forward” to the potential rush of up-levels coming into WvW to unlock their various trait line items?
I sense some farming in jump puzzles and hylek, ogre, etc camps.
So, as instructed here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Personality-Traits-Missing/ I ask: Where is the personality indicators? They used to be on the hero’s tab, equipment section (that didn’t exist before) right next to the class icon.
Uhm, not being rude to you, since you are just following instructions, but why does anet think putting it here was appropriate?
Seriously the mods on these forums are playing a shell game right now with posts and i don’t like it.
OK, i just looked over that trait guide. Wow Anet. Seriously. I hadn’t realized how bad this was until just now.
Just one example: Battle for Claw Island – LEVEL 50
This has to be done to unlock a Tier 1 trait (II in the list). So by my caluclations, even though I gain access to Tier one stuff at level 30, and can get enough points to drop 2 into a trait line by my 40s, I still can’t even choose this particular LEVEL 1 trait until I am at least level 50 since that is the level of the kitten ed story step I need to do?!?!?!? Mind you this is just ONE of the absurdities I saw when looking over that list. Not even touching upon the making people that don’t know any better running into WvW just to die to those of us that play it more often just so they can unlock a trait that they might use on occasion.
Seriously, I get you want people to play all aspects of the game, but you are basically forcing them to play those things just to progress personally. I didn’t enter WvW until I was level 80 for a while on my main toon, and even then it was hard for me. I had a lot to learn and re-learn, but i stayed around to have fun. If i had to go in there just to progress my character at a lower level, not only would it have left a real bad taste in my mouth, but i might have just quit playing the game. This is a big misstep Anet. A big one.
I hate to say it, but you guys have made a mistake here that needs to be tweaked. Some others have had some good suggestions, but yeah. Big mistakes.
Here is what I honestly do no understand, so please bear with me Anet:
Prior to the update town clothes were their own separate pieces. I’m not talking about what was bought from the store. I’m just talking about the clothes you literally start the game with on your character. Those town clothes.
They were individual pieces. WHY then could you not just turn those into skins? What possible logic would there be not to turn those into skins with a flag on them that made it so they could only apply to the particular race/gender they belonged to?
I’m going to be spending some more time on a lower level character i made to get used to this new system, but some of the things I am reading right now kinda disturb me.
Wow. OK, Anet.
Here’s the thing…I’m usually one of your bigger supporters for these things, but wow. I don’t know if its a mistake or not, but this feels like a huge step backwards. I don’t PvP right now, and although I considered it for some time, i don’t like the idea that I now have to do all 5 of the PvE based dailies to get it if I don’t feel like doing WvW that day, or worse, being forced to do PvP for the daily.
There were some days where I could also just do my daily in WvW, which doesn’t seem like it’d be possible now. I honestly feel bad for PvPers that have to venture from PvP just to do their dailies. If anything, this goes against the “play your way” mantra and its a little sad really. I might do PvP someday, but on my own time.
Guess i’ll be missing getting my daily every now and then until this is fixed.
I honestly don’t know if its been mentioned yet or not, and if so I apologize for being redundant, but:
I remember it being said that ALL armor skins that have been unlocked (including those from PvP) were going to be made available in the wardrobe. I know I’ve gotten through a fairly large number of achievement chests and in them I’ve gotten a fair amount of armor skins. I was expecting to see those skins in my wardrobe when i logged in, and they weren’t there. Is there a plan to get them added back to my account or is there a plan to get us something else to replace all of those items that we earned through getting the chests?
Have you visited the Heart of the Mists since the update?
I had to go there on each of my characters for their PvP gear (and the stuff in the locker) to be added to the wardrobe.
I’ve visited it with one of my characters. So I have to go there with each of my alts?!? Not sure how that will get all the items that had been in my locker to appear in my wardrobe though. i can check tonight to see if its different though.

Its not that i hate mounts. They just have no place in this game with its mechanics. Literally NO place in this game.
Why is this already on 8 pages?!?!? No. No mounts. No. This is the 45690854906-86580 thread on this subject. Just stop. You want a mount? Go play WoW or LoTRO, or any other game that needs them.
Just to point something out: there are many people that only ever want to play WvW because that is the game type they enjoy playing, yet they HAVE to go into PvE to get the maps and mats necessary to get their legendaries and map completion. Is it fair for them to have to do PvE content? Honest question for you OP.
Yeah, recruitment is going to be a PITA. I’m really glad they’ve restated that world identity isn’t going to change for WvW, but trying to recruit people both for the guild and for WvW is going to be problematic.
And seriously! TC T1 tactical knowledge also reigns supreme over those lowly lower tiers with their OP pets.
But its ok, i understand needing to down play the pet effectiveness on the official forums. Rangers don’t want them nerfed.
OK, well i have something to say here that I’m not sure if its come up yet or not. Maybe it has in 14 pages, but in either case here it goes:
Currently we are trying to build up our server community in a few ways. one of them is through our server website. We also have a server wide mumble as well. The problem i foresee is that we won’t be able to build that community after this update since maps i will be on are no longer going to be SF maps, but GW2 maps. I’m honestly worried with how this is going to impact not only server morale but also other linked aspects of the game like WvW. I mean, its hard to conceptualize WvW when you do away with the whole home server aspect of the game structure.
Agree 34985734957%. Seriously. QD champ chain is just silly if you are lvl 80. I only ever go out there to help some people if they need it or to do a speed knock out of my daily if i know that I can’t be on for too long.
Crazy idea: How about the ability to ask people to duel while you are in the Mists area of PvP. Some decent areas out that way and its something to do between actual matches with people that (wait for it) LIKE TO PvP already!
The duels can be friendly duels with no rankings, but ways for people to just have fun and test new things out without being in a structured match of any sort.
Nothing was more annoying (and do mean NOTHING) than trying to go about my business in WoW and getting harassed by some fool in a city to duel over and over and over again. i had one guy literally follow me around and kill steal in an area and hit all the harvesting nodes just because i kept ignoring and turning down the duel requests.
If there is one thing I never want to see in this game it will be this feature. When i want to fight others I will go into PvP or WvW and gleefully fight others. In PvE it just has no place.
Dat “6am-everyone-else-is-sleeping-because-they-go-to-work” time slot.
Mmmm…PvD is so very fulfilling. Good job on fighting against no one.
Seriously? This info has been known since beta and anyone transferring from A to B should really do their research before jumping all over the place. i understand your frustration, but really it was on you to do your research first. This was something Anet stated from the start regarding world transfers and even as was linked about has had posted for some time.
No, that should be right. Read the April 2014 patch blog entries. They make mention that since they are changing how dailies/monthlies work on the 14th that they were also making it so we only had to get 2/2 before the patch.
I remember seeing the 55 Healer build in Guild Wars 1 PvP. An entire team of really good damage dealers couldn’t even make a dent in one 55 healer. Is that the balance you were referring to?
HA! I remember the 55 healer build. You know how you killed them? Mesmers stripping all day long.
Great build for tanking/farming melee mobs all day long though. Missing some GW1 now. lol
uhm, yeah, this update is actually making me consider doing some more PvP since i love PvE but really hate doing a full on dungeon sometimes.
I only bought my precursor, but I still need to do the farming of… five other T6 materials, along with 100 Charged Lodestones.
Precursor-wise, it’d be kinda neat if there was a challenging, actually challenging and hard to defeat without actual teamwork, boss or encounter where it had a higher rate of dropping from. Or able to be bought with tokens gathered from doing the encounter a set number of times, or a train of such encounters that could be titled “Precursor to the Legend” or something like that, and all lead up to getting a particular precursor.
It’d make the item seem a bit more Legendary and a little less straight up boring grinding. (Only a little less, since you wouldn’t need to grind up gold for the precursor, but would need to grind up the other materials/gold for the other materials >.>)
I’m very interested in this concept actually. i think it’d be awesome to have to go on a quest line once you’re level 80 that takes you through some level 80 zones (maybe even some dungeon instances that can be solo’d or done with friends) to acquire necessary info or things to finally find some instanced boss to gain a particular precursor. They could even do something specific in EoTM for WvW players that want to avoid PvE stuff and the progressions they spoke about for PvPers.
As others have said, take a break. Barring that try setting “odd” goals for yourself in game. For instance, I am currently planning on going on picture taking expeditions. There are some maps i opened and have never been back to since opening it. I went back to one of those maps recently and stood in awe of something that i either forgot or just ignored. I realized there are tons more of those places in the game and i want to find them and basically enjoy the scenery.
in short, “play” the game differently with goals that you set for yourself and not ones based on things you can get in the game. Does that make sense?
Better late then never. Show some gratitude.
For all unneeded things, better never than late. To a formerly living or functioning thing, good things received late are valueless.
There is a threshold when late becomes too late, and never becomes the more appropriate time. A late lunch can spoil dinner if received too closely in scheduling. Such is the way lateness can afflict things that run in cycles.
When dealing with contagion, lateness allows it to spread. Too late allows it to be disposed of safely. It’s better to be both early and qualified though.
The appropriate idiom that holds true under more circumstances is: It’s better to be late than too late. Also, better never than too late.
Do you know when ‘too late’ is or was?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Impression_formationThere are first impressions; and then there are ‘last impressions’. When operating within the status of last impressions, the influences of reformative action are vastly reduced. In rarer circumstances, a ‘final impression’ state may even exist to denote the point when something can change and no longer influence the impression. Any and all attempted change is then seen only as conforming to the impression; which is also the point any method of ‘telling’ (and not showing) would completely fail to re-impress.
Impressions are also believed to be a function of complex math; ‘integration’ if you need something to call it. And they are reversed by an inverse process involving ‘differentiation’ from the previous integrated impression. The important thing to note about these types of equations is that they are continuous functions defined at separate ‘unit measurements’. So to change an already formed impression, it usually requires it to be done around the same number of measurements. But as I hinted at earlier, with the stuff about first and last impressions, the unit measurements are spaced further apart nearing the end of the equation than they are nearing the beginning. Hence, poor impressions are easier to make and harder to break.
And so, none of this ‘late’ or ‘never’ or ‘too late’ conversation really matters in this situation as much as the simpler question: Are moves like this going to instill enough trust to withstand the rapid confidence depletion that’s already been occurring? Isn’t it more effective to curb the current ‘trust depletion functions’ than it is to try to offset them with separate small ‘trust generating ones’?
yawn
We get it. You have a sad. Go play something else then. Those of us that are looking forward to playing on our alts with our WXP points pooled are going to have a blast.
Or did you somehow think that your navel gazing was shared by the rest of us or even new players coming to the game still?
Pssh, I’d go full Leeroy into a zerg even when it cost me money to repair if it meant i’d get a good dead scout vantage point on their movements. Now i get to do it for free.
No skin off my rear. I think its going to make WvW far more exciting and inviting to new players.
All I keep reading on these threads is “oh noes, I no can has insta-kill on people with my GC”. Dude, you’re not being neutered. You will be doing a LITTLE less damage and support/tank builds are getting a SMALL buff to help counter the errybody just ZERK mentality in this game. This means more actual strategic play and not stackstackstackPUUUUUSHbombbombbombbomb. Seriously. Wait for the patch and actually see how the numbers drop before your come to the boards to complain.
I make it a point to avoid people that want x build for x dungeon path as much as possible. In fact, I try to find people that just want to do them for fun and maybe even try goofy things to get through the dungeon. For me that’s more fun than speed runs for the loots.
the only time I have “lost money” has been when playing WvW due to upgrade costs that I choose to do.
I have NEVER lost money using WPs in PvE since I make far more from materials and items and events than I ever spend on WPs. Pure profit. Now with armor repair being free it will be even MORE profit. I’m happier than a porcine in excrement.
Yeah nike. You are like, SOOOOO wrong.
You see, its true because I said it, so therefore all of your common sense talk about this subject is invalid.
Seriously though, I’m with ya Nike, i like these changes. Might actually get some Celestial gear on my Ele now.
It wasn’t a case of hacking a gate. It was a pretty well known, illegitimate method to remove all defensive siege from the gate area, essentially regardless of its placement.
Honest question: what is this “known method”? I’ve never seen something like this before.
OMFG are you SERIOUS?!?! They are going to be delivering a HUGE content and QoL update and you are STILL finding something to complain about?!?!!?!?!?
O.o
Really?
Newsflash, you don’t know what they might still have planned on that front. You have no idea if that is still something to come at another big update like this. Do you have any idea the volume of things they HAVE delivered on? Good god, enjoy the game that you have right now and stop with the complaining already. These threads just smack of entitlement.
This might make my Guardian sad, but then again it might make me rework some of my build and try some new things for WvW as well.
Well, part of the deal is that I can afford scarlet’s kiss now when it was first released. It was around 30-40 gold. But it just kept climbing after that. So if you don’t have enough money at the beginning you will never have enough.
And to quote esmee about the laurels for crafting bags. I did one of those and got like… an armored scale, a crystalline dust and a vicious claw, I was expecting something more along the lines of some orichalcum ore and gossamer scraps. If I spend all my 50-something laurels on those bags then I’m just going to end up with a bunch of those things.
Also, I been playing since beta weekends and 3-day early headstart. in roughly over a year and a half we already reached the point I was talking about.
See I been using the exact same armor and the exact same weapons for the past 8 months at the very least, since summer 2013. I got a new longbow but thats because I FINALLY turned in my endgame pact token.
I too have been playing since beta, and I honestly don’t know why you are having a funds issue. I’m also a fairly casual player, but I’ve made enough gold to out fit almost if not all of my level 80s in at least one full set of exotic armor, some have 2 sets and for my mains they are running exotic weapons, all with superior sigils and runes. A lot of these were bought with a few drops here and there helping round it all out. Basically i’m saying I’ve dropped A LOT of gold in this game that I’ve gotten from straight playing the content. (Not even going to get into how much gold i’ve spent playing WvW.)
Best tip I can give you is sell your excess mats that you get from collecting them in the world. You’d be surprised how much money you can make off of those materials when sold at the right time. If you still have character slots open, then make some alts. Even if you just set them to farm in lower level areas for an hour every few days or leave one at the end of the jumping puzzle to grab some quick loots, its just another way to make some cash in game.
Oh you.
Don’t be silly. They aren’t going to give us Altaholics back any money. What next? someone that kept an accounting of every time they re-traited asking for that currency back as well?
This thread is like Jason Voorhees.
Here’s the fun thing about GW2 that the OP doesn’t seem to or want to understand.
Let’s first push aside what is “mathematically correct” when it comes to doing dungeons, or PvE stuff in the game and put aside the ZERK ALL THE THINGS that we all know to be true currently.
If you are just getting together with some friends to play some content in a game like WoW, and you load up together the moment you see your friend’s toons you know what you are in for. Oh, you’re cleric and you’re the warlock, I’m the rogue and he’s the Warrior. OK, everyone has their part so yeah, let’s DO THIS. Problem is its boring and predictable. Horribly predictable.
In GW2 however, simply seeing an Ele or Warrior or Guardian show up in your party doesn’t mean i know what all everyone is doing. My favorite dungeon run i did recently was a TA run with my asuran warrior. She was the “healer” in the group. The Guardian was the DPS, and the ranger was DPS/condi. We also had a DPS war with us and a condi Necro. We weren’t doing a speed run through the dungeon and you know what? It was a blast. We had…wait for it…FUN. Also, no one in the party really had a healing warrior in their group like that before and it was interesting seeing their reactions to the spec. GW2 gives you that flexibility to go full on with one of those classic roles, or hybrid it out, and unless you are looking to do something very specific like a dungeon run in under 5 minutes, then your build is whatever you feel like since you don’t NEED the trinity anymore.
But, OP, if you really love WoW that much…i hear there are some people that still play it.

Oh for kitten’s sake its not a THING because the only thing that makes it an “issue” in our real life world is because we have modern day idiots that cannot fathom that those “rules to live by” that condemned such behavior were born from nomadic people that live in small tribes and settlements and who had to make sure to put societal rules in place to preserve their population. You know who didn’t have problems with homosexuality? large/established cultures that have no need for the same reproductive rules (see Greek, Roman, etc). There is absolutely NOTHING in GW lore that would have ever condemned someone for wanting to be a in a same sex relationship so no, there should be no friction on that front. Good gravy, just…just stop.
Nice thread. I don’t know how many of these issues we can feasibly tackle, but I’m sure you’ll see at least a few fixes come from this.
Yeah Tyler, i understand you. You have no time for fix all the bugs. That happen when you leave the work for another day and another and another, because a lot of these bugs has 1 year old. Now you have a LOT OF ACCUMULATED work to do.
I understand you was doing another thing, too much time with the living history, and PvE content, you lose the WvW part of this game. This game is about LH Farming right now. And that was your choice.
OR (crazy thought here i know, buuuuut) maybe, just maybe, the choice wasn’t his! Hear me out. i know it might be a little out there, but maybe the decisions about how to spend resources and time and money are coming from the PARENT company. You know? NCsoft. The ones that actually own this thing. Maybe THEY are driving this car and not the devs who work for them. Just an idea though.
The communicated it because they thought they’d be able to release it earlier. When that turned out to be problematic they gave us the best estimate they could at the time, which was soon and that they’d let us know more when they knew more. Add to that the other stuff they have had on their plates and whatever strings are getting pulled by NCSOFT and you have a delayed release of something that might be important to some devs but not so much to the company controlling the money. Seriously, this is not that hard to understand.
i wonder what some of your would hate more: not getting WXP across your account or getting it and realizing a bug in the code caused you to only get about 2/3 of your actual WXP across your account? Seriously, this isn’t something that happens overnight and this isn’t the only thing they are working on coding and trying to implement into a LIVE environment. Seriously, this complaining about WXP across multiple threads is just getting sadder and sadder.
sigh “Anet, Anet, Anet”. Can everyone PLEASE look down at the bottom the screen on the far left and read the FIRST name you come to? Yeah…see, NCSOFT is the company you need to be focusing your vitriol at since they are the ones dictating where their money is spent. Getting kittened off at Anet is about as effective as getting upset at the tech support guy at Verizon because of some decision the Board of directors of Verizon made.
I don’t think a perma stow mechanic would be that had to balance. By no means are these hard thought numbers, but more of an idea regarding balance:
When stowed the pet grants the ranger buffs like:
Canines – PVT
Felines – PPCond.
Birds – PVCrit
And basically have them be the equivalent values of say a level 50 masterwork item of that kind until level 80 where the stowed pet grants exotic level bonuses of those kinds.
This way the ranger that chooses to stow a pet gets some added bonus that they can make builds around, choosing 2 different pets they’d have to swap between and re-stow to get those benefits and if they run with the pet out then they don’t get those bonuses. its too early in the morning to think this one out too far beyond this one so if someone else wants to take the ball and run with it, have at.
You guys should hop into the Ranger CDI and say this stuff. Most of the Rangers feel that pets are actually not very helpful. It’s interesting how the feedback differs so greatly between this thread and that one!
I like yoooou.
