Zane, your getting packet loss from the get go coming right from your home router. This is a problem. If I check mine (which I have in the past) I will get 0 packet loss with the exception of maybe when I hit the final hops on ANets end. The fact that you’re getting packet loss from your router and going through your ISP leads me to believe there is an issue on your end.

How are you connecting to your home router (i.e. wireless, Cat5)?

ASUS GJ73 Laptop : GW2 Shutting down Computer : Requesting help

I would agree with Kat that this is most likely a heat issue. Especially since GW2 is more CPU intensive than other MMOs. Another indication is in what you said, “it normal gets worse when I play longer.”. As heat builds up the laptop performance will degrade until it gets too hot and then it will just shut off.

You could look into investing in a laptop cooler, also make sure you are running it on a flat surface.

When you say you uninstalled and reinstalled the driver, did you uninstall through windows? Or did you use something like Drivesweeper? You should uninstall using something like Drivesweeper because that removes ALL references to the drivers while the Windows uninstaller still leaves stuff behind.

I would try that if you haven’t already, and make sure you remove and reinstall CAP too along with the main drivers as well.

MoBo Heat

It’s because it’s a laptop. Everything is in such close proximity to each other that the laptop mobo will also be subject to a lot of this heat. There is much less air actually moving across the mobo in a laptop than a desktop computer. You might try a laptop cooler if your use this laptop for a lot of gaming.

An example:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834997969

You have to keep in mind that the CPU and GPU processors are all directly mounted to the mobo, also the north bridge, all these chips produce heat especially under load. Couple that with the much more limited space and more restrictive air flow and the motherboard will tend to het hotter.

I can run BF3 ultra @60fps but GW2 drops fps still?..

The lowest FPS i get is about 40.
it still sucks..
My PC’s worth around the 1.6k$, and there’s a problem with the game that I paid 60 bucks to play with 60 FPS only. (Can get used to play with around 40 FPS in crowded places).

40FPS in crowded areas is very respectable in an MMO. Remember, MMO’s and regular games (even multiplayer games) are two very different beasts.

One thought did occur to me however, if all you max out at is 60 FPS, you might have the frame limiter enabled in game. I did when I first started playing and it did the same until I disabled it. Now I max out at times in excess of 100 FPS (occasionally).

I’ve got 16 in WvW, now that is not respectable from a gtx 680 and i5 2500k 4.2. Anet must fix it now.

Ouch, before Oct 1 patch I was getting over 30 fps in heavy pvp fights, now I can’t break 20 fps and it’s nearly unplayable.

There is no excuse for GW2 to perform this horrible, SWTOR with max settings gave me 60-80fps everywhere, as far as I know system requirements between the two games aren’t that much different.

iMetallix, mind sharing your PC specs? I don’t believe a word you say.

But again, apples and oranges. Two different developers, different game engines, different servers, etc.

But again, your talking about cards that weren’t even out when the game was in development. The AMD 7000 and Nvidia 600 series have changes in the architecture and were still in development the same time as the game. Anytime I buy a new series of hardware I always go into it expecting there to be some issues like here. It will get better as newer drivers (like AMD just releasing the 21.11 beta drivers geared specifically towards the 7000 series) are released.

Unfortunately it takes time, so the demand they “fix it now” isn’t going to speed anything up because the game developers need to work with the hardware developers to work on drivers that help optimize the game for the new hardware. Seeing as they are just now releasing new drivers that are actually geared towards the new series, I would say it’s still going to be some time before this game will run smooth in all areas.

shrugs Really don’t know what else to tell you. It is what it is. I am on track to get a HD 7970 Ghz Edition by the end if this month and I fully expect to run into issue with games until new drivers come out. But I am looking to the future and go into this with the knowledge that there will be growing pains when new hardware is first released.

Is there an issue with GW2 and ATI cards?

Rabbiddog.7690

I really don’t want to get into NVidia Vs ATI argument, but its not marketing, just look at anandtech or tomshardware benchmarks, Nvidia has been ahead for a few years across the board. Which is also the reason AMD is shifting their strategy from high end gaming cards. They aren’t able to compete.

As far as developers developing for Nvidia there are actually a few reasons… I work in the tech industry and get to deal with this all the time. The 2 main reasons are:

1- Nvidia tends to give out developers more cards than ATI does. Nvidia tends to give out top end cards while ATI gives out last gen cards. This naturally leads to devs using Nvidia more
2- whoever is in charge of ordering parts will look at benchmarks and will get the winners.. Since Nvidia has been winning for the last several years they tend to get Nvidia cards.

Again we agree to disagree. I have used both cards since since graphics cards became the necessity of gaming. And I have never seen anything in my own experience that places one ahead of another. Sure, there are times when one card exceeds the other because of new architecture\series, which then the other follows up soon with their version, and vice versa.

I also find the last part of your statement dubious. Why would, as a rival card maker trying to gain as much of market share as possible, and In constant competition with the other, why would they not give out their best and as much as needed to developers? To not do so makes no business sense whatsoever. It may happen on a smaller scale to small developers who are not established, but I find this hard to believe this happens for large established developers. And until I see actual proof of this I will take this with a grain of salt.

BTW, I am in the tech industry as well and have been working with computers since the Unix\OS2 days. I am not going to get into a long drawn out discussion because, again, from my experience it just isn’t true. So further discussion would lead nowhere. Again, we agree to disagree.

It may very well be a ‘placebo’ effect but I have stuck to this method for years and have never had issues with games. I may have minor issues here and there that a little tweaking doesn’t fix, but nothing that doesn’t prevent me from playing games and playing them without having to sacrifice performance.

shrugs If it ain’t broken, then don’t fix it.

I also disagree with you that Nvidia are superior cards. IMHO it is all marketing. And game developers chose to favor one card over another based on what their own game engines will be most easily developed on. This doesn’t make it a superior card, just an easier developmental process. Also, AMD is getting better with their driver release schedules. Anyway, just my opinion.

@Duxa, although the tests are informative they are hardly conclusive. I hit 80 FPS average (sometimes higher but never below 40) on HD 6850’s everything maxxed. Now the difference between us is I am running strictly an AMD rig. That means an AMD processor as well. When I make computers I tend to ‘keep it in the family’ so to speak. My previous rig was Intel with Nvidia, I rarely mix the two (i.e AMD with Intel or AMD with Nvidia).

A couple things to keep in mind though is the 7000 series has ‘newer’ architecture and funstionality. They are PCI-E 3.0 as well as some other changes in the architecture. Plus, when this game was in development, the 7000 series wasn’t released yet. So I would expect it to possibly run into issues with some games until newer drivers come out. This is always the case when newer series cards are released. The Nvidia 600 series are running into the similar issues.

That said I am on track to getting a HD 7970 Ghz Edition by the end of the month. I also fully expect to possibly run into similar issues. But I am looking to the future so, it goes with the territory.

From what I can tell it’s hardware and software based right? You need a motherboard that supports the tech plus the application itself installed. If that’s the case there has to be some software interface (GUI or such). In that you should be able to look at the licensing status as this does look like it is licensed (paid for) software. Usually you can see this under Help>About.

I mention this because it’s not uncommon for a hardware vendor to bundle a trial version of software with their hardware to wet your whistle (so to speak) then rope you in to buy the full version.

@shadowblue, Yeah it’s sounds like your issue just happened to coincide with the update but is indeed a hardware issue with your GPU. Constant blue screens after a fresh build would be a good indication. Just to be sure you could also throw in another video card (if you happen to have one) even if it’s older and see what happens. Just to rule out that it is indeed the video card and not some other hardware. If with another card it boots up and displays fine then it’s the other GPU for sure. If not, then you might have other bad hardware.

Then it sounds like a latency issue with only GW1 (something on their end?). As for the GPU, if you have to start the fan spinning, I would just go ahead and take it back and get a replacement. It’s gonna stop for good soon. However, if you want to monitor the fan speeds you can use MSI afterburner or some similar software.

Yes if it’s a latency issue it should be affecting all aspects of game play (chat and skills included). Hm, still interested in what the results of my diag would be. Not sure what it could be if not latency then. I had a very similar issue in LotRO. Extremely low FPS no matter what settings I used. It turned out to be the particular GPU I was using. I even went so far as to exchange it 3 times with no results. It was an Nvidia card so I traded it for an monetarily equivalent AMD card and the game ran fine.

Not saying it’s your card, because in my case it was a new card that I hadn’t previously used with the game. Your case is different. The only other thing I can suggest is to submit a help ticket.

Well there are only a few AMD 6 core processors so I don’t think it’s much of a secret. Besides, those people don’t actually know what they are talking about. I run an AMD Phenom II Black edition and have never had any problems running any games at highest settings. Same with GW2, and typically get around 70-80 FPS average.

That said, I run a similar setup as you (dual HD 6850’s) and am stumped as to what could be the issue. It sounds like a latency issue. You haven’t changed anything at all just prior to this happening? No new application installations? Running all the latest drivers?

Hi groundhog – I’d like to collect a Network Diagnostic report from you. To do this, please follow the steps below:

1. Navigate to your Guild Wars 2 folder.

2. Right-click on “GW2.exe” and select “Create Shortcut.”

3. Right-click on “GW2.exe – Shortcut” and select “Rename.”

4. Rename this file to “Guild Wars 2 Diagnostic.”

5. Right-click on “Guild Wars 2 Diagnostic” and select “Properties.”

6. Locate the “Target” line and add the following to the end " -diag"
Your target line should look like this: “C:\Gamse\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe” -diag

7. Click “Ok” to save your changes.

8. Double click “Guild Wars 2 Diagnostic” to start the test.

Once completed, please click “View Results” and save the results to a text file on your desktop. Once saved, please attach that to the thread for review.

It actually can be either depending on your system. But then again, that would be evident if you actually followed such posts closely.
