So I just bought the game, and when installing I get a “Download failed! Please check your internet connection and try again” error. I searched the internet and nothing helps.
I did a GameAdvisor test to clear up stuff.
I use ESET NOD32 v5 antivirus, so no problems there, firewall off.

Anyone knows a fix or a way to get it to work?

Did you disable antivirus altogether and try the download? Some antivirus has been known to cause this issue.

You will also get emails if there was an attempted access of your account from an IP that is not already listed and recognized, this is regardless if they have the password or not. If it’s legitimate, then you can authorize the access from the email (IIRC) or not respond to the email and nothing will happen.

Either way, if you go into Account\Security you can view recent logins and authorized networks. If you see recent login date\times that weren’t you or your SO, or locations that aren’t yours, then yes, your accounts been hacked. If not, then they only were able to get your account username and not the password. That would mean the multiple attempts were them trying to guess it. If it was hacked, then you need to contact support.

Computer Shuts Off While Playing

I don’t think it was a power issue: League of Legends takes up more power to run the game (I play LoL on high settings with RAM coming to 1,400,000kb total) than GW (I play them on low settings RAM only maxing to about 800,000kb). Heat is definitely not an issue, either. I would leave my computer off for a good length of time and it would still shut off immediately after trying to play.

On a good note: after a reinstallation, my computer has not shut off at all within the past 15 hours. If the problem persists, I might think to take it in for repair.

I’m sorry for wasting your time. Thank you for your help, Kirito and Kumakichi.

What did you reinstall? If you reinstalled the game and it seems to have stopped then it definitely sounds as if you had a corrupt game file.

Hm, my HD only really gets used when loading zones and such. I would open Resource Monitor then play the game and alt+tab back to the manager and look at the disk portion. See if it is indeed GW2 hammering your HD or if maybe it’s triggering some other process to do this.

If it is GW2, I’m not sure why it would be doing this constantly.

Ability Delay in GW2 aswell

You might be right, however I did ask that specific question and he said that everything was free flowing. No blocked ports.

This is so annoying. But it is weird, that the only problem I get is input lag in MMORPG’s. I have no issues with fps and other kinds of lag. Just input lag.

The games I’ve tried is swtor, skill/actionbar delay. Lotro, actionbar delay. GW2, skill delay.

Unfortunately, this type of network issue affects MMO’s the most. Online multiplayer games (FPS) will not be as affected. Do you have a home router that was issued by the new ISP? If so, you could try bypassing it. It’s possible the new router is the culprit. If you were issued a home router it’s possible it has QoS enabled by default and that could be affecting your games. If you have access to the router you can go into and see. But the easiest and quickest way to tell is to just bypass it altogether and test the game.

I think GW2 is blocking my IP. Not sure why. If that’s the case SwtoR was blocking my IP aswell. Maybe I was too vocal on their forums.

Why do I think this? I took my computer, newly reinstalled OS with no other programs installed, to my moms apartment and tried on her internet. The problem was still there. Maybe I should be blaming my mothers ISP aswell.

It is definatly network related and I think it’s the online games themselves doing the blocking.

Games don’t generally block ISPs. And the odds of two different game companies blocking the same ISP is even greater. Also, it is not uncommon for ISPs to block certain ports. When you contacted your ISP, did you also ask if they were blocking the specific ports GW2 needs?

EDIT: In addition, doing a quick Google of your ISP I see that it is a MAJOR European ISP with 34 million subscribers. I HIGHLY doubt both game companies are blocking a major ISP.

Thanks for the constructive replies. You are all right. Logic dictates it has to be my ISP. However : I’ve done ping -t tests to servers running for more than 15 mins even when playing. I’ve done tracert tests. And nothing suspicious shows up. I’m getting an average of 43 ms.

If they are port blocking why would they do that. I run on a land line not wireless so my bandwidth is not capped. I’m using Tele2 and the problems started when I switched to them in September. Prior to that, January to August, when using glocalnet I had zero problems.

Ok, this right here.

“I’m using Tele2 and the problems started when I switched to them in September.”

This is a key statement. So let’s look at this logically. You have the same issue in multiple MMO’s and these issues started AFTER you switched to a new ISP. You know your answer, and unfortunately your not going to get a resolution here. Despite the ISP telling you there is no issue, there is an issue. The only other thing I can suggest is if you have a home router that the new ISP issued to you, connect your PC directly to the main connection coming into your home (you may have to re-configure your IP), thus bypassing your router, and test the game again. This would rule out an issue with your router.

Other than that, your issue indeed lies with you home network, or more likely your ISP (which would be my bet). If everything was working fine and nothing else changed but your ISP, then you started having problems, well, you know the answer.

She/He means did you switch from wireless to wired, try different ports on your home router, try another network cable, etc. That sorta thing. Ability delay is most commonly associated with some sort of latency/network issues. The fact that you get this issue in more than one MMO speaks of an issue not with the games themselves, but rather your own network or your ISP.

Go read the other posts where people have posted their ping data for the path to the GW2 servers and then see if you want to sing that same tune.

Yup, I will sing the same tune. He/she stated he/she is having this issue in MULTIPLE MMOs . This means, and logic would dictate, that it is something related to ALL MMO’s he/she plays. Certainly you are not suggesting that the GW2 servers also affect his/her SWtoR game? If it were only GW2 that was having the issue, then yes, I might sing a different tune, but that is not the case.

However, instead of criticizing someone attempting to offer help, why not be constructive and post something helpful yourself, instead of just trolling.

I’m not a troll. It doesn’t matter what results he has with other MMOs, or at least the fact that he has glitches with other MMOs doesn’t mean that there isn’t a major problem with GW2. I and several thousand other people know that Rift has the same problem and it isn’t an issue with client systems or local routers. When several people are posting ping results for the path to ArenaNet IP addresses that show minimal packet delays for all path segments until it spikes up to a few hundred msec at ArenaNet’s door, something is horribly amiss. Check the other threads if you don’t believe me.

It does matter what results he is having in other MMO’s. At least I understand basic troubleshooting techniques and practices. Did you even read the OPs post, Or just mine then trolled? He stated he is having THE EXACT SAME ISSUES IN OTHER MMOS! Get it!?

The issue he is speaking of is indicative of latency\network issues, couple that with the fact he is having the same issue in other MMOs and you have to look at the common link, i.e. His network or ISP as both MMO’s don’t share the same servers. And pretty much every thread you mention also mentions they have no other issues with other MMOs. I have been on these forums helping others from the beginning and I know what others have been posting.

I am not going to continue this conversation with you because it’s pointless. We agree to disagree.

In fact leviathan, it sounds almost to me like your ISP might be the culprit. The fact that the first couple of days playing GW2 were fine then the issue popped up, sounds suspiciously like your ISP is throttling or port blocking. It’s not uncommon for some ISPs to throttle applications they see using more bandwidth. This might also explain your same issue with SWtoR as well. Just a guess though.

Who’s your ISP and do you have a data cap?

Edit; By the way, no it is not new, and there are in fact some odd things to see in some of these places. You are able to res yourself with revive orb sometimes, and explore some weird things.

Thats’ why I mentioned culling. There are various types of culling but essentially (IIRC) culling is not rendering anything that is not visible on the screen. There have been some instances of other games not implementing culling so objects behind other objects still got rendered even though they were not visible. Thus affecting game performance. Anyway, not sure if that’s what is going on here.

Most motherboards nowadays have a windows based utility that you can download from the manufacturers site that updates the BIOS right from Windows. It’s pretty easy. If you have a retail system (like Dell or HP) just go to their support site and look up your system model. It will list the latest drivers to include BIOS. If you have a custom built system and don’t know the mobo, use something like CPU-Z. It will tell you what brand/model mobo you have.

Just want to pitch in that I had to do the following: Reboot, rename local.dat to local.datBACKUP, launch GW, client hung, rebooted again, and was able to log in fine afterwards. Same exact issue as Cael, and same setup – 32bit Win XP with an 8800 Nvidia card.

For what its worth, I did enable the 3GB switch and tried to run GW2 with it – it worked at first, but ran into a serious graphical glitch. GW2 is currently running fine WITHOUT the 3GB switch enabled, and just with the local.dat file deleted – this problem was definitely introduced on your end with the patch, and telling people to muck around with their boot.ini as a solution to the problem is NOT good advice.

The problem with the 3GB switch is your robbing peter to pay paul. In other words, your taking the memory away from the kernel mode processes and giving it to application processes. This has the potential of making your OS unstable.

Rekich, try stopping any unneeded processes and applications running in the background that might be eating up additional RAM. People with only 2GB of RAM have gotten the game to run. Also make sure your page file is system managed and that you have plenty of hard drive space. Because of limited RAM, your system will tend to use swapping much more and if you don’t have sufficient hard drive space then you run into these issues.

Unfortunately at this time GW2 is a CPU centric game. The general concensus is to OC your CPU. This should help increase FPS as well as help mitigate high CPU usage issue.

As far as the FPS drops, you can create a second GW2 shortcut and add -diag to the end of the command line. When you start having the sudden FPS drop, minimize the game and run that and see if the results tell you anything.

With a 32bit OS the max supported memory is 4GB. Anything above 4GB is not even seen and just a waste. That said, I stated that GW2 is a 32bit app that is caapable of running on a 32bit OS. Capable of running doesn’t mean it will run, there are many variables that come into play.

Rabbiddog.7690

GW2 is a 32bit app which is large address aware which means it can access in excess of 2 GB of RAM. Even with LAA, a 32 bit OS limits any application to only 2GB of RAM. The remaining RAM is designated for the OS. There are commands you can run to change the kernel requirement to be lower but I wouldn’t recommend it as it can make your OS unstable. That said, afaik GW2 will run on a 32bit OS. Try stopping any background/unneeded services and applications that would eat up additional RAM. Also, as loseridiot stated, swapping comes into play using your page file. If you have little hard drive space then your page file is going to be limited and possibly not be enough to account for the lack of available memory.

Oh there is. My mistake.

ShadowBlaze, also use something like GPU-Z and check your Crossfire setup. It’s possible that the PCI-E slot your second card is running on is x4 or something like that which would limit the second card.

Most websites I see states that 2-way CFX setup at 16x/4x only affects roughly 8% performance loss compared to 8x/8x?

Compared to x8/x8, what about compared to x16/x16? I would think the difference is going to be a bit more. Also keep in mind, Crossfire throttles to the lowest PCI-E speed. So If your running one at x16 and one at x8, it will be throttled back to x8 for both. Now take that into consideration if one is running at x4.

shrugs Anyway, you can check it or not. That’s up to you, was offering another possible solution.

Mhn, your behind a home router (I hope) which masks your system from the outside. While disabling the computer firewall is considered less secure, it won’t open your system up to the outside world like you would think. And most OS firewalls are set up with default settings which is less than secure any way. But for testing purposes, you can disable it and run the game to see if you still have issues. If not, then you know it’s an issue with a firewall setting (port needing to be opened, etc.). If you still have issue then it’s pretty safe to say your firewall is not the problem and can re-enable it.
