What part of Gaurdian is its namesake?

RabbitUp.8294

When I read the name Gaurdian I think Logan Thackery with a shield holding off a ton of mofo’s from hurting his friends. From playing the Gaurdian I’ve found no one uses a shield, Hammers offer a blanket protection but what the hell does that weapon archetype have to do with protecting any one, you could go full on healer but then you’re more like a healer instead of a protector and why when Druids handle that better.

There’s a lot more to support than healing. Applying aegis to your party will soak up as much if not more damage than party heals would recover.

Shield is an amazing pvp weapon, for a support-oriented play style. It’s also great for open world HoT content, you will appreciate the bonus survivability a lot more than the little bit of extra torch damage.

With the amount of love sword and scepter recieved last patch, guardian has to be one of the top professions in terms of weapon set viability.

At the same time, it feels like the greatsword struggles to fill a niche. Tries to be DPS, mobility and cc at the same time, and fails to deliver any of those in adequate amount.

My suggestion is to make it a chasing weapon, mostly geared towards wvw roaming. I propose that Symbol of Wrath becomes a 1200 range skill that applies cripple when first placed (like how sword applies blind and lb burns)

And maybe reduce Leap of Faith CD to 12sec.

People are pointing out offhand pistol will become terrible due to this change. Don’t you see that’s because main hand pistol at the current state sacks as hell? Blowtorch is the only reason why people even use p/p. That’s a kinda sad thing!

It’s the only 1-handed weapon we have, so there’s nothing to compare to to say it sucks.

RabbitUp.8294

I don’t like the idea of making off-hand pistol terrible to make shield look appealing in comparison, and I’m talking as someone who’s been dying to use the p/s combo since the first time I rolled an engi.

Shield needs improvements by itself. The cooldown timers are way too long for both skills. Mesmer shield has the same cooldowns and both skills have in-built ways to greatly reduce them.

They should be 25s/30s respectively, 20s/24s with the trait. Then, make the trait work properly and apply protection with a delay so that we don’t lose uptime while blocking. Then, remove the channel time from Magnetic Shield. Seriously, Eles have a dozen ways to get Magnetic Aura which lasts longer and allows you to act freely. The skills is too outdated, even with the sequence.

As for main-hand pistol, I could support swapping skills, but off-hand pistol would need some improvements. A soft-CC weapon with minimal damage is pretty niche, when shield has 2 hard-CC skills. At the very least, it should do damage with both skills, so it’s solidified as the offensive off-hand option.

So because I cannot afford a Lamborghini in real life means that something is unfair? It’s a luxury items just as legendary weapons are as well as other skins. The vast majority of the game doesn’t require you to have these skins. It’s just something for you to work towards as a long term goal. You can continue to dismiss it and claim that it is a non-argument all that you want, but it doesn’t make it so.

As I said, these are longterm goals. If Anet wanted them to be earned in the short term, they would have added more faucets to the materials. Yes, legendary weapons are gold/material sinks but they’ve been like that since launch. Other desirable skins have also followed the same pattern too.

Mystic coin prices fluctuate and have for quite some time. By this weekend, prices could be back up again. They could be even higher later this summer when we get legendary armor.

Since when is a game supposed to reflect real life? Offering an escape from reality is one of the main aspects of gaming and fiction in general.

This whole “you don’t need this” is pretty much baseless. You don’t need this skin, you don’t need this item, well guess what, you don’t need to play the game at all in the first place. Gw2 is no player’s job, they play to have fun, and telling them that they have to work to have fun is stupid.

And I’m saying as someone that got a legendary by doing nothing but chopping wood for a month, and guess what I took a break twice as long to recover from such a tedious experience. I would much rather be rewarded for playing the game itself than interacting with trees.

That’s strange, doesn’t supply and demand usually mean that if there’s more items going up for sale than are being bought, the item cannot go up in price no matter what?

What he said basically means 2 things, most of the coins generated end up in the material storage and never consumed for crafting or sold in the trading post, because the casuals basically forget about them after hitting “deposit all”, or they are oblivious of their worth, and secondarily, there are players who have hoarded vast amounts of coins when they were dirt cheap, and some of them have not been listed on the trade house yet.

So, while the supply is greater than the demand technically, most of the supply is not being put up for sale.

Or they think “these things accumulate at a glacial pace and are used in most of the recent cosmetics crafting, I had better save mine for when I really want something”. Just pointing out that “forgetfulness” and “obliviousness” are far from the only explanations. =)

Those that think this way are also the ones that are going to end up buying some from the trading house and then eventually use them for crafting, reducing the available supply. I seriously doubt a good number of players are sitting on their coins for a year or so that it takes to get them from login rewards alone until they can get enough to craft what they want.

In either case, if they wanted to offer a solution to the problem, the best way would be to make coins available through methods that you actually have to work for. That way, a lot less end up in the hands of “oblivious” players, as you put it and even some of them would eventually become curious and check the trading post if they were getting coins as high-tier rewards.

People aren’t ‘forced’ to be unique with their skins… in gw2… where skins and expression of oneself is key…

What’s funny is legendaries skins are a lot less unique than most of the much cheaper skins out there. There are flashy, that’s for sure, but compare the number of people using Bifrost, to something like The Crossing for example. At this point, having a legendary means you either have a lot of hours on your back or that you have a credit card.

Nothing is out of reach. If you want to make gold and craft your legendaries you can do so in a couple of months easily. It’s just that some just don’t know how and only rely on liquid gold earnings, and for some of those that do know, spending most of their playtime chopping wood is not what they want from a game.

Stick with a zerker build to be honest, you will roll over stuff much easier in the personal story till you get to Orr. At that point I’d really recommend getting a friend to run through it with you so they can cleave stuff better. Orr gets a lot more mobs and open world they die to a full shatter but in story not sure they do.

Sad to say but mesmer sucks compared to all other classes for personal story and I include barebow ranger.

I just didn’t want to spend money/expend materials on crafting Zerker Exotic, since I seem to be doing fine with Rampager. I crafted Rampager mainly because it’s cheap to do so.

What Ascended Armor would you recommend? I mainly WvW.

I’ve got 5k hours in the game (mainly on Engi) and I’ve got boat loads of Ascended trinkets, etc., and enough mats, laurels and gold to buy what I need.

You don’t have to spend gold. Complete the Arah pvp path once for 3 zerker weapons and 2 pieces of armour. Buy the other 3 for 1500 airship parts or karma.

Anything heal-related in Inventions needs a rework. It’s hard to imagine this traitline was developed at the same time and by the same person as Druid. There was an obvious attempt to insert a supporting option for classes into the game with HoT, but they threw it all out of the window by making a “healer” spec that was specifically marketed at such, in a game that healers weren’t going to be a thing as per release.

Now we are left with Inventions and Ventari line that feel outdated since day 1, with only Tempest being able to somewhat compete as a healer by virtue of their water skills. It’s unacceptable that an Engineer that dons healing gear, slots Inventions and wields a Med Kit is so much worse than a Berserker Druid.

Asura use magitech which is basically just magical elements infused into technology. Most of their technology is powered by magic-infused powerstones, so they’re not really “engineers”.
Charr on the other hand use actual engineering since they prefer machines to magic.

The magical components of Asuran tech just act as power sources primarily. It’s not as much mechanised magic as it is engineering fueled by magic.

Bulwark Gyro takes a utility skill, you are comparing apples to oranges.

Nah, the identity of the class has always been clicking more buttons than other classes to produce the same results. Ele’s attunements each have a seperate identity. Engi’s kits are different flavours of condi damage.

Are Turrets really dead?

in Engineer

Posted by: RabbitUp.8294

RabbitUp.8294

Turrets got severely nerfed to the point of complete uselessness when they became fotm in pvp, and then they received another layer of nerfs on top of that with the removal of certain traits.

All they needed to do is have turrets inherit engi’s stats. It makes no sense for them to do the same damage and have the same survivability regardless of whether the engi himself is glass cannon or full tank.

They received no compensation, no buffs, no work was done on them to ensure they stay somewhat relevant. It’s like they specifically want them to be dead skills. And with gyros, I lost all my hope on anything happening. If they can’t make the pay-to-play gyros viable, there’s no chance the free turrets will ever become more than novelty skills and noob traps.

Nerf top list:
Hammer has too much goodies on it, making almost every engineer select hammer. Hammer offers the best power based DPS, might stacking, reflection, evade, block, triple leap finisher, whirl finisher, ranged AoE stun and a lightning combo field.

Remove triple leap from rocket charge to just 1 leap, increase Electro-whirl cooldown to 10 s.

Dual Pistols and Pistol/Shield are better choices for condi specs, which dominate pve. Sounds to me like the problem is Rifle being undertuned, not Hammer being too good. Scrapper’s utilities are already terrible, the “mechanic” is unusable in pve, we don’t need the weapon to follow suit.

Consider other game modes when making these suggestions. Removing 2 leap finishes from hammer #3 greatly reduces the weapon’s ability to break defiance bars, forcing Hammer scrappers to slot Slick Shoes.

Med kit suggestion

in Engineer

RabbitUp.8294

That’s something I would love to use, a great suggestion. I’m not sure about the self-heal, though. The toolbelt is already a low-cooldown heal, and I fear the self-heal component would drag the numbers down and make the kit stay lackluster.

My suggestion: Med Beam heals by default. The modes add additional effects, with the second mode doubling the heal amount.

Also, the beam pierces allies by default, and Health Insurance increase the heal amount, and creates an AoE around the target that applies all effects of the beam.

Yes, Scrapper is good in pvp, but Engi is the only pve class that’s suboptimal to slot your elite spec and they gut the only gyro that was worth putting in our tray.

A duration of 30 seconds seems more overtuned than the CD. How about 20 sec duration and 30 sec CD?

Alternatively, a change to all gyros: Make the CD start at spawn, not death, and increase the CD by an amount equal to the duration. For Sneak Gyro, in particular, make it 40 sec cooldown with 20 second duration. So, the opponent is rewarded for killing the gyro and you are punished for using Sneak momentarily for rez/stomps and destroying it soon afterwards.

I didn’t realize SR took the elite spot and came with a 5k health bar.

hes talking about letting it become invisible. it has no attacks, so it cant unstealth without counterplay thats only provided by ranger and engi, and its a binary guessing game that will be really boring. do you hit with your sneak gyro toolbelt? no? welp, he got away. yes? welp, you have a 6 sec timer before it happens again, and your toolbelt isnt on a 6 sec cd.

its not that hard to see that this is a terrible suggestion.

Well, you commended on the skill as a whole. I don’t like OP’s edit, either, because it’s entirely pvp-biased, and it’s backwards-thinking to buff the skill for pvp when this is the game mode that’s causing this change in the first place.

As a pve player mainly, Scrapper no longer has an elite spec for me. Yes, playing with the hammer was fun for a while, but it’s suboptimal DPS, so I stick with condi pistols. And all gyros are terrible now. I love it when Guardians complain about their 4 Spirit weapons, and here I am, with all these turrets and gyros.

But when I was roaming, or playing with more laid-back groups, I did tend to switch to Scrapper and slot Sneak Gyro. Stealth rezzing, dropping aggro, gathering resources without pesky mobs annoying me, I knew it was up for use. But not anymore. Pvp dictates the balance once more, taking small steps is not a concept in Anet’s heads, and now engineer doesn’t get to play along with the cool kids in the expansion.

We are the jack of no trades, a condi dps dealer with no utility that’s being outshined by the soon-to-be-buffed Berserker.

Re-imagining gyros

RabbitUp.8294

I have such a huge love/hate relations with gyros. Visually, they look amazing and I feel they are so close to being viable (well, Sneak already is more than that), but at the same time, they miss the mark on what I feel they and the Scrapper should be about.

Basically, I want gyros to be robot helpers. Unlike turrets, they don’t create selfish zones of control, but instead help the rest of the team do their jobs better and they are the primary means for the engineer to support their team directly. Also, I create an incentive for actually using gyros in your utility bar over kits and a new professor mechanic, since the function gyro alone doesn’t feel like one, especially with how limited its use in the pve is.

Profession mechanic: Dispenser Gyro
It replaces the function gyro. It’s always following you around, much like the latter, and mechanically, it works like a Facet that’s always on. (Function Gyro stays the same, but only appears when you press F for a finish/revive.)

The disperse gyro creates mini gyros for each ally around you (up to 5 allies). They gain untargetable floating gyros around their model. What those gyros do depends on the gyros in your bar, as well as a baseline effect

Disperse Gyro: Every 6 second, you disperse a number of gyros to nearby allies.
Baseline -> Jolt Gyro that grants 2 Might (6 sec)
Medic Gyro -> Stim Gyro that grants superspeed (2 sec)
Blast Gyro Tag -> The effectiveness of your Jolt Gyro is doubled (i.e. 4 stacks of Might)
Bulwark Gyro -> Reflect Gyro that grants retaliation (2 sec)
Purge Gyro -> Guard Gyro that grants protection (2 sec)
Shredder Gyro -> Whirl Gyro that grants swiftness (6 sec)
Sneak Gyro -> Scope Gyro that grants Fury (3 sec)

Seems wayyyy too clunky to use, 1/2 a second to get the kit out another delay whist u ground target, 1/2 a second to throw it, projectile speed to the ground target 1/2 second again. item lands and fires off its 700hp heal and removes 1 condi after nearly 2 seconds of screwing around doing nothing else. Meanwhile the warrior healing signet has healed him over those 2 seconds for 750hps passively whilst he actively smashes your face in with an eviscerate for about 6k. Those 700hps and that cripple removal not looking so crash hot now.

Or i could throw down a healing turret, overcharge it for the water field and fire off say 3 blasts for some serious burst healing(detonate turret, shield blast, rocket boots). Theres about 6k healing and 2 condis in 2 seconds to everyone, not 700 and a condi removal to that 1 dood that walked over my stimulant i threw down. And the turret is ready to be used 20 seconds later /shrug.

Why are you comparing Med Kit’s #2-4 to actual healing skills? That’s like comparing heals to traited Meditations.

Med Kit’s primary heal is the toolbelt skill, not the bandages. The #2-4 are buffs, condi removal and complimentary heals.
