Yeah, I’ve been complaining about the glory point system since Beta.

Suggestions were points for dieing on a point controlled by your team, give a small amount of points every X second for people defending a point controlled by your team and team wide points for capping/killing NPCs. Increase cap/neutralization to 15/15 or 20/20 glory points (keep as is for score). Basically, everything that benefits the team should be rewarded.

Etc.

Solo queue 5v5 is also a given.

I just love it when people come down to look at animation bit. Can you really look for all the animations on so many players around you esp asuras? No you cant.

Also PW has animation too. Also HS and every other thing Thief does so whats the difference.

You see thief fly to you you dodge. And not once but twice because that way you will make him miss 2 HS and you will dodge other 2 and he is out of ini and then he will stealth if he is succesful in doing so because all the stealth mechanics are broken. If he does go in his general direction spam 1 and there you go you have a free kill.

Thiefs are UP you just cant dodge. Animations are useless since you cant see them in time to react.

Please play Thief make a HS build and try it out or PW build. You will see how hard it is to land those. In fact any build requires more skill than guardian that can simply uses my 6k dmg and retaliates so I kill my self. OH yeah I forgot he has animation for that too.

The problems you describe with the inability to watch animations is just symptomatic of the 8v8 zergy environment. In a 1v1, the case which OP is debating and actually happen in 5v5, you can very well see the animations coming (even in 2v2).

I don’t remember complaining about PW or HS, so I do not see the point of bringing that up. I have no problem with either in 1v1. However, most people complained about HS spam, or its lack of variety and how it was a one click only noobstomper, not really the damage. PW, from my understanding, is comboed with quickness and a teleport. I don’t see any problem with it. It’s similar to the 100B combo from Warrior. It’s easily countered by a stun breaker if you get caught or anticipation. Of course, once again in a 8v8 situation, you’ll likely get roflstomped.

I already play 5 professions in sPvP and have absolutely no reason, nor will to play Thief. However, I’m sure I’d quickly find a way to dispatch those Guardians you seem to dislike because I know how they work, but that would be at the price of another profession or build having now the advantage. I just suggested possible solutions to the difficulties OP was having against a Guardian.

I believe I gave enough explanations for people to start thinking about how they can counter those guardian builds with their Thief. Just QQing will get you nowhere, just like other people QQing about PW and 100B will get them nowhere either.

Through my experience with different professions, it’s become very apparent people need to accept that their build, while it can be strong overall, will always have a few nemesis around.

For example, I’ve been playing my Guardian Retribution build an hour earlier. A condition necro happened to be there. In my normal DPS GS/Hammer mode, I completely destroy them. In this build, as a buff bot, I got wtfowned by his insane condition/boon manipulation because I relied on boons.

and yea back to the point, if you know so much of a thieves weakness than why are there SO Much QQ bout thieves being op op op and gurdians not being justified??

The bane signet has a specific animation, so if you see it used as opener, it’s a good time to use that stun break then stealth immediately and run around avoiding the Hammer.

I don’t know much about Thief as I do not play one, but since it’s pretty much a FOTM class at the moment, I’ve come to see a few things repeated over and over, and well, that Guardian build and also the Retaliation build are particularly effective against the most common Thief builds and Legion Mesmers, so no wonder they are starting to appear.

Might want to come back down to Earth. I agree DOTA 2 has a higher skill cap, but that doesn’t change the fact LoL is pretty much still the reference for MOBA competitive play right now.

We spent a lot of time theorycrafting and discussing during Beta about Retaliation on how to make it just right, not too much, not too low. Right now, it’s at a rather good place. We can’t keep it up on teammates all the time, at best a 50% uptime on 5 persons close to each other and a full time Retaliation on the Guardian requires quite a bit of traits and skills dedication.

In my opinion, this isn’t getting changed any time soon. You’ll have to adapt.

To use the command twice, you must have 20 pts in the Zeal line which is pretty much useless except for this particular Trait and another 10 pts in the Virtues line at minimum. The other requirement is that you must use the first knockback within 15s of summoning the SW if you want the 2nd knockdown later. But that means, either the first or second knockdown will be rushed and not timed very well during a fight.

The Spirit Weapons move at normal speed, cannot benefit from buffs and do not attack stealthed targets. The Hammer chain is very obvious and can be dodged appropriately easily if you pay attention which you should if you have two SWs on your back.

The best counter against such a Guardian as Thief would be Pistol I think as you can stealth/kite while still doing damage. Remember, if he has SW, he does not have Retaliation up for long, if ever, so unload. Another solution is obviously access to Stability boon.

I’m not saying it’s easy for a Thief as this and Retaliation builds are probably the most annoying for you. You’ll have to live with the fact a Thief getting chain knockdown, by any class, is going to be at disadvantage because he has low HPs and can’t stealth while stunned which is your main damage evasion mechanic.

Since you are so weak to knockback/stun, might be a good idea to pick 2 stun breaks. I run with two on my DPS Guardian and I’m much bulkier than you.

Also, remember that while you might be generally weak against such a build as a typical glass canon Thief, at the same time, that Guardian is very vulnerable to a number of other builds, particularly against fast conditions in general.

Good job about the complaining on a Guardian spec that requires almost an entire dedication to the Spirit Weapons themselves.

Learn to kite and have a Break Stun ready if you see one coming. The Spirit Weapons cooldowns start on disappearance which means once they are gone, you have 30-45s of free damage on the almost useless Guardian.

You increase chain speed and increase the symbol duration by an extra second, not hard.

I also play Hammer/GS in PvP and while I know what it is capable of, it doesn’t change the fact the 3rd hit in the chain is too long to come out for the effect it gives in most situations.

There are plenty of ways ANet can go about it to improve the flow of that chain and keep everything else as smooth as it is.

why would you facepalm that? warrior can run around full time with a rifle or longbow and not kitten themselves. you run around full time with a staff or scepter as a guardian and you ARE kittening yourself

just use two melee weapons you say? just did an event in an asura area. it’s not a group event. escort a busted golem and take out the inquest that sabotaged him. event spawns a giant. this giant chain pbaoe knocks down and pbaoe fears. you can not melee him. at all. and here i am with gs/mace+focus unable to do ANYTHING to the giant.

and yet warrior healing signet is substantially higher passive regen than anything guardians have AND is a heal on a 20s cd vs. 40s for guardian. and on a class with viable ranged and 20s cd shouts that grant huge healing when used…

The biggest problem with Hammer has always been the lack of synergy between its skills.
While the individual skills are very powerful at what they do they just don’t work that well together. If I launch a target I can no longer hit it, if I immobilize a distant target that’s also of little use for me. These types of skills would better fit on a ranged weapon.
Of course I can imagine having an organized dungeon or PvP team making good use out of each of the hammer skills, but the lack of synergy in of itself isn’t good for solo or chaos (open word pve, wvw).

Sigh.

Use 4 to root the target and catch up to him/her, then use 5 to block them inside the ring. Now use 2, followed by 4 to knock them down inside the ring. Finish by switching to GS/1h Sword and unload 3 while target is down.

Skills 3-5 can also keep someone out of a control point for over 10s if used correctly in sPvP. Having a team just increases the amount of punishment the guy will get while locked down.

The only Hammer issue is its #1 chain being too slow in PvP. In PvE, the chain does relatively good DPS. The Symbol actually does quite a bit of damage, it doesn’t just give protection.

Even in PvP, why would you pick it up over the other very useful options in the Valor line?

A 50% chance of 4s chill on a crit every 45s is useless. Should be 2-3s on all crit every 10-15s to at least be better than the Sigil.

For me, it’s a placeholder, they will come back to it soon enough hopefully.

guardina hp were nerfed on bw2 and his glyps of heal too both cut of 50%.
I had 22k of life and a heal of 10k now i have a life of 12 and a heal of 4k and is th emost powerfull……….

So? Use Knight’s Amulet and Signet of Resolve.

All profession have the same (916) and gain the same from Vitality (1 vit = 10 HPs), but Warrior’s innate base HPs are 5k+ above and so are Necromancers.

This is to balance the higher natural defensive capabilities of the Guardian. A 20 seconds fight is already 2k HPs just from the Virtue of Resolve passive, plus an absorb from the Aegis.

Moa is a bad skill because if they aren’t slotting time warp the Mesmer is BAAADDDD and you should beat them anyway.

Why is this? Your comment is neither informative or constructive.

Moa is mostly just a 1v1 or even 2v2 crutch, a type of fight the Mesmer already excels at. On the other hand, both the mass invis and the mass quickness can turn a team battle around in a few seconds.

When I play my Mesmer, I oftens switch between Moa and one of the others depending on the fight to come.

Skirmisher is bonus points awarded for killing someone away from a control point.

Defender is for killing while being on a controlled point

Assaulter is for killing while being on an opponent controlled point.

Some maps have wider radius for each of those…and Raid map does not seem to give skirmisher bonus anywhere.

Basically, it’s almost impossible not to get 15 pts total for a kill unless you are on Raid map, the exception being on a neutral point though.

In LoL Dominion, you gain a small amount of points periodically while defending and when you die on a point you own, you get a Martyr bonus.

I don’t think it would be particularly hard to add that to GW2. I’d say 5 pts per minutes standing in the area of the circle and 10 for dieing.

Don’t worry, most thieves admit there are stupid easy noob stomping builds that should get the balance treatment. Only the thieves heavily abusing it will say it’s perfectly fine as is.

Remember, there is no smoke without fire (chemistry aside huhu!). If a lot of people are complaining, then there is generally something wrong that at the very least requires the dev attention, either to buff/nerf it or explain clearly how it’s intended to be dealt with by the players.

If the devs say it’s fine as is, then people will seriously start looking at the counters. ANet always has a choice not to buff/nerf anything and just clearly say : deal with it. What they shouldn’t do is ignore the issues altogether.

I think allowing 2, maybe 3, to queue up together for same team Hotjoin 8v8 is fine.

Part of the fun is also playing against your friend, not always with. A small friendly competition can go a long way towards improving bonds.

Downed state is fine, its the 8v8 zergfest thats the problem. In a 5v5 it feels much more tactical/interesting.

A lot of issues are mostly related to the 8v8 format sadly, yet ANet seems to insist in offering this format for whatever reason.

Mesmer/Thief issues? Not much of a problem in 5v5, very much an issue in pub stomping 8v8 zerg fest.

Downed state? Perfectly fine and tactical in 5v5. Completely stupid in 8v8.

Trebuchet in Kylo? Balanced and interesting tactical choice in 5v5. Completely overpowered and free glory for the one rushing fastest to it in 8v8.

Killing guild lord? Risky tactical choice in 5v5. 8v8? Lol, no problem, always rush him for max glory.

Etc.

I think the biggest complaint is the fact that you literally only have to press one button over and over to watch the damage climb. Heartseeker is a minor closer that keeps you on the target, and the damage gets progressively larger the more you spam it.

If you don’t see what is inherently wrong with that design there can’t be a constructive conversation about it.

I understand how the design scares other classes, but look at the numbers. Anet made plenty of effort to make the skill fun for thieves that want to mindlessly spam, but at the same time be inherently ineffective. You simply cannot get the same damage and utility from HS spam as you can from other skills/combos/builds.

That’s complete rubbish. If one skill is enough to kill the majority of people by just spamming it, then there is no need to use anything else the majority of the time.

It’s a design flaw that will be corrected soon enough. They will probably keep the damage done, but either make it hard to pull it off or easier to avoid.

Elementist need a serious pvp enhancement

In a fight of glass canons, it’s hardly, if ever, the profession or build that matters, but your skill in avoiding your opponent burst.

Arguably, HS and Pistol Whip spams are annoying when you get caught unaware, but you’d get killed the same way by any other glass canon build as well.

You are an elementalist, you wear cloth. Anyone with a glass canon power burst build will try to take you down as soon as possible, so be aware.

Anyway, if you are bored of dieing, look up builds with more survivability instead of running around with 14k HPs.

I do agree Elementalist could use a tweak or two in the damage department though, they have to do way too many combos and execute them perfectly to do the same damage as some other professions.

It’s really only there I think to build you up for tournament play, which is where the real strategy comes in, or for casuals to come in a no pressure environment to play and learn.

The thing is..8v8 does absolutely nothing to prepare you for 5v5.

I’m currently using the Hammer also. Honestly, coupled with the GS, the burst combo can be quite high, but I agree that Mighty Blow getting broken from a twich of the finger is not cool… And that third auto-attack takes so long to get off people are long gone by then -.-

I’m happy to hear some tweaks are being done. Better/faster animations with slightly lower damage if need be is all that’s needed in my opinion.

I also believe weapon and character switching should be disabled.

For weapons, you have 5 minutes to prepare yourself for the coming match, that’s largely enough if you wish to make a change.

Character switching just defeats the purpose of making a team that can tackle all maps and instead encourages to switch professions better adapted to another map.

Both should be removed.
