It’s not a knock against qT at all btw, it’s a knock against people who see “rev 26k ele 31k” and assume that means ele is better without considering all implications. I don’t think qT would endorse people using their numbers to jump to conclusion prematurely
Sorry if my answer sounded like you were attacking them because that is not how I read it at all. I’ve always considered people from all those high level guilds (DnT qT sC KING….) equally : very good players with enough time and passion for the game to try to optimize and create comprehensive guides for others. But like I said, initiative like metabattle or your guides are actually the things that make people stop thinking.
Folks,
I have seen numerous posts here suggesting that the devs really only care/read about GW2 on Reddit.
You forgot that those posts are actually the most stupid comments. What do you see in reddit from devs?
Well GM talks about tickets and bans. Peter (Fries) teases some jokes about story characters, Dara making the most puns she can, Benjamin explaining some Fractal changes (but he gives some insights if not copy/pastes here), Ruby trying to get what people want to be discussed in Guildchat, Linsey giving some behind the curtain insight on how things were designed and some people from QA acknowledging some bugs.
Basically, reddit has as many threads about balance, complains which get no answers at all. The reason for it is that every single sentence said by a dev about design is taken in the meanest way possible to explain something totally unrelated. Remember the “stepping stone” to raids? Well it got discussed here as “they do not care about Fractals anymore”… I would honestly avoid any comment if I were them, or at least make some comments with an alt account hoping somebody will ever try to look at a single issue in a different manner.
So lead a crusade on reddit if you think it’s worth it but do not get your hopes too high.
Typical overreactions by people who need to be spoon fed by qT.
Well they also got spoon fed for years by DnT to be honest. As soon as you, invested players, start to share some knowledge, it triggers some switch off in many brains. I mean you are (general you) the ones who refines builds and rotations and made perma quickness a thing. Before that, boss were killed without perma quickness (it was harder but still doable). Now most players assume it should be a prerequisite and that the nerf of quickness availability is a sign that Anet devs don’t play their game. The thing is players only play the game while devs gives the rules and test those rule in their game (a.k.a play their game)… so it is actually two steps for them and one for us. Yet they are called the lazy ones…..
Rune of Chronomancer :
-Wells apply quickness (2 sec) to up to 5 affected allies when they expire. (not around the chrono but in the well so that the mesmer/necro can choose to not be affected)
OR
-increase 6th bonus to 4 seconds but add a 10 sec ICD
I think this is the “purity of purpose” part of balance part : the majority of blocks in the game are 2 seconds long so they upped shield and decreased toolkit duration to homogenize things.
. SoI was fine as it was, boon generation needed to be toned down
For raids:
I would not say SOI was fine at all. There was no control over it so you could share boons that you were not able to generate in better amount than their origin. Best example was fury. Mesmer do not generate fury but can share huge amount of it and in the end one revenant buffing 5 mates ends up as mesmer covering fury for 10 people.
In fact the nerf to SOI made it so that it was unnecessary to look at every boon generation for every class.
Generally I think they wanted to not have a single mesmer able to cover 100% quickness and high uptime alacrity for 10 people. This will be possible for 5 but bringing a second mesmer will be a question of DPS gain Vs loss. Same goes with druid. The fact that you get more DPS by having 60 % of your group with a support build to buff the 40% remaining people to tremendous levels is not a good thing.Warrior support is still an outlier though.
That said the DPS buff on sword seems too weak to compensate. While I understand that devs do not want to change too much other class DPS after such a drastic change and let the new meta settle, this update tastes unfinished.
I don’t know why anyone would downvote a discussion about improving any weak ability for any class but my goodness, the GW2 reddit boggles my mind.
I think the reason is that there is such a discussion at least once a week on the same subject. While most people just see the last 24 hours discussion on reddit so that you cannot bump a discussion, I think many people just downvote because they have the impression that it is again the same thread…
This kind of long term feedback threads are much more suited for the forum than reddit. I know people think the devs are more on reddit than the forum but it is not true.
In the year or so this profession has been out, I too can’t recall a single encounter where I’ve ever seen another Revenant use that skill. I’ve definitely seen them run around with a tablet, but even then I never see them use it, or just leave it behind in the heat of combat.
I think people used protective solace against Sloth when wing 2 got released but it turned out that Mallyx was a better option against the shake attack while other profession bring reflections instead of negation.
What about reducing channelling time on “Harmonious Mantras” ?
Original cast time : 2,75sec
-20% reduction : 2,2 sec
-33% reduction : 1,8 sec
-36% reduction : 1,75 sec ( = -1 sec)
-50% reduction : 1,38 sec
Choose the one you want (I prefer the 36 % one because of the 0,25s fractioning) but :
- it would keep the risk/reward but give a bonus for the GM trait (cast times >1,5 sec are still obvious).
- less downtime if you want to maintain “Mantra Strength” (supposed to be part of the may power build right?)
- easier reaction time for party support via “Restorative Mantras”
Since the previous previous thread got lost (with the previous one and the previous previous previous one), I will quote myself on this one :
My rather simple suggestions:
1. Med Blaster: Turn it to a channel version of what it is, with 5 pulses, affecting 5 target, the last pulse granting 2 sec of regen on the affected allies (something like FT auto, or fumigate, the regen helping for the additional healing per boon).
2. Overcharge Blaster: Throw a ball of curing and condition clearing chemicals in front of you (like Guard staff2 but with smaller range)Skills 3-4-5 : Keep their functionality but make them work like a “throw elixir” skill with a radius of 180, affecting 5 people. Maybe the CD should be somehow increased. There is also the possibility to make them elixirs but then HGH will become 1 stack of might… so better keep them non elixirs
Like I said in another thread, harmonious mantra could receive a 20 % activation of mantra reduction, and an increase in the buff duration to be actually be able to do something while the buff is active (even if it means that charges are not increased anymore).
I would also change the Imagined burden trait (renamed empowered surge) to actually give GS AA its full damage independently of range instead of applying cripple.
Healing prism should heal for more given its CD… I would say 50% of your heal.
I don’t know if it would be too much but I’d also give Shattered strength 5 sec Fury per illusion shattered.
For the damage modifiers, it could be cool if they would be applied to illusions. In fact I still think these modifiers should become a stat (called intensity) and be available on gear, food and even have a new boon for it (availability compensated by the fact that it would become additive)… but it would mess so much the balance that I am not sure it would be feasible.
Honestly if it is only open world and story, I don’t know if viper is such a great stat then because you won’t benefit much from an increased condi duration if the mobs die before you complete one round of your rotation… In that case I would prefer sinister to have better condi ticks.
If you want more a condi/power hybrid I would have a look at pistol off-hand where the phantasm does quite a bunch of damage and when traited (sharper images+ duelist’s discipline) can also apply some bleed stacks.
Also about being tanky and doing condi damage, have a look at trailblazer stats (tough condi vit expertise) which gives you exactly this. Of course you are nto forced to take everything with the same stats in your case of hybrid. I would recommend you to use a tool like gw2skills.net to simulate your gear and find the combination that suits you.
If you had learnt how to play then you would know why engy is deemed one of the weaker classes in PvE raids, and has been considered surplus to requirements in large scale WvW most of the game.
Really? The profession is top single target condi dealer, necro only comes into competition when adds enter the fight and can be epidemic’ed. If you look at power build then it is ranked 4 or 5 for the build itself, but number 3 if you exclude multiple profession…. sure if one consider number 2 is already weak then yes engi is one of the weakest class in the game…. as every other non-Elementalist class.
I see few problems of Engineer:
1. Very low mobility. I have to use one build to get swiftnes and manage to folow another in WvW and word events, fractals ect.
2. Huge amount of skill, but only one meta. That weard. That kill fun. I want to use granades, tourest, not hammer.
3. There a lot of problems in topics below.
As said earlier you can have perma swiftness through streamlined kit, so when spec for mobility there is no real competition with others. Scapper also bring super speed and electric fields to stack swiftness and super speed, which can replace streamlined kit if you combo properly (or people around you do!).
Having only one Meta is more or less the definition of the word by now. It is supposed to be the most efficient build you can spec in for a definite role. But each game mode has at least 1 meta. In sPvP you have a support/bruiser Meta build, but the condi build is also quite good, close to become Meta. In raid you have two Meta builds condi one and power one… I am less comfortable with WvW Meta but there an engi can actually fill different roles as well like bringing tons of support or damages.
I would not really call engi a weak profession. Sure it is not easy to play, requires good bindings for your keys and a lot of focus to know when the hidden skills from kits are available. Sure turrets, gadgets and somehow elixirs are not in a state where they are interesting compared to kits but the skills themselves are not that bad. It’s just that combining them with weak weapons (which are weak because of kits) does not make a good mix.
And finally, no anet is not asnwering to complaints thread because devs have actually a real job and forum are made for people to complain. Nobody will just start a forum discussion to say “Elixir gun is a good skill” because there is nothing to answer. So their reaction has a form of balance updates for which they react to complaints if they feel it is necessary. But since basically there is a complaint thread about every single skill in the game (or at least skill type) they can’t take every complaint as serious (that is why they are dev and we are players… they are less emotionally involved).
Actually we never saw any minion sylvari, the way they should be. all the mordrem we saw in HoT are former Pact members, sylvari who could not resist the call of Mordremoth. The rest of the mordrem we saw were copies of dead bodies or seemingly corrupted wildlife.
Like I said in another thread I am not sure how Malyck should be now treated because the more we learn about the world, the less he himself makes any sense in this world. For example, how does he know how to fight or talk if he has no connection to any Dream, or any conciousness that teach him what his purpose is? Rumors are that the content got scrapped from HoT and I could totally see why : whatever his fate is, there will be inconstancies.
If he turns out to be a minion, then why did he look so not minion like in PS if champions life cycle is independent of their master’s (like Great Destroyer and minions and Primordus). If he is still independent from Mordremoth then how did he manage without access to the Dream ?
Also why do all sylvari look humanoid? Beforehand it was explained that there were so because the Pale Tree (and logically Malyck Tree) were planted on dead human bodies which she copied but since episode 2 it seems like Blighting Trees copying dead bodies only got created after Zhaitan’s death…..
so how are mesmer right now?
solo HOT content?
fractals?
raid?
spvp/wvw ? (not so important for me)thanks
Mesmer is a great class but is somehow hard to play well.
You will go through HOT content quite easily, as any class, as long as you understand how it works. The class has many tools to survive in open world (mobility, stealth, decoy tanking) and do enough damage to go through every maps. Since HOT, the summoned companions only takes 5% of non targeted damages, meaning they do not die due to AOE anymore so that you can use your illusions both in defensive or offensive ways. But before you think in term of damages, do not compare yourself too much to Ele. Sure you are a spell caster but you won’t do huge lava font-like umbers. Nevertheless, nothing to be ashamed of and PvE content is mostly not challenging dps-wise.
In Fractal and raid, mesmers are sadly only considered through their elite spec, Chronomance, which is awaited to be full support. Not that you cannot fill the role of DPS (some builds are pretty good) but people will only accept you in your support role (unless you play with friends who want to try new things, even not being optimal). The support build is not really easy to play well. You want to apply perma quickness to the party and give as much as alacrity you can in order to boost others’ DPS. There are many guides to play this build you can find.
In sPvP and WvW, while I am far from being an expert I still have the impression that mesmers are always welcome and have strong builds. In Conquest, Mesmers can still pull nice party utilities and their Condi DPS is strong while allowing good defense mechanisms. In WvW I still do encounter mesmer roamers which can be deadly. In big train you will always be useful thanks to portal, group stealth, support or your personal DPS.
While magic can be split in different domains as seen in episode 2, one could also argue that different combination could be achieved.
From the map of the All, there seems to be 6 great waves (for 6 dragons) but their combinations could also overlap. For example Moredremoth domains are Plant and Mind, yet it seems Primordus only tapped into the Plant one, meaning Mordremoth wave could actually be fragmented into smaller wavelets. That is why I am not sure we can attribute one type of magic to every single profession, I think the combinations are more numerous than 6. For example Mesmer could totally fill the role of being mind oriented.
I also wonder how magic was divided among the elder races, if they all had a bit of each main branch or different ones. In fact I could imagine that when Seers made the Bloodstone they gathered all magic minus Mursaat one into the stone, creating an uncomplete spectrum of magic. Centuries after magic may have been re distributed differently (also the human Gods split of the Bloodstone may have created a new 4"colors" spectrum). But now I am wondering if by, absorbing the BF Bloodstone, Lazarus could have absorbed another part of the spectrum and if he would get a full spectrum if he absorbed all bloodstones.
Concerning Lazarus, I am quite sure he will betray us in a way or another. I know my point is weak but if he was genuine I do think the writers would have included Kas in the instance. Because last season there was this emphasis about her gift to detect lies and having Lazarus on the good side would have been confirmed by Kasmeer saying " I now it’s strange but I cannot feel the lies in his speech… I think we can trust him".
Her being away since the beginning of the season makes a good moment for a character to lie to us. I could also imagine some dramatic tension between Kasmeer and Marjory because Jory will trust too much Lazarus (maybe even be hypnotized by him) while Kas will try to argue that she should be careful.
But in the first time I wonder if Lazarus will make the PC help him to purge the White Mantle from the Caudecus followers (an arc that got opened in episode 1)in order to have full control of the organization. PC (supported by Jory) will see this as a good way to strengthen Jenna’s power in Divinity’s Reach, while Lazarus will purify (and then expand) his own army.
And then if I let myself do more speculations, I would see Caudecus and his remaining followers go to Ebonhawk to ally with the separatists but losing the fight there as well they’ll decide to go in the desert to find Glint’s lair to maybe find some kind of weapon against Lazarus. This will be our opportunity to go in the desert for next expansion
They fought “around the time the Tome of Rubicon was written” – the old lore wording – which was written before the Elder Dragons fell asleep. Which in turn means that the mursaat waged war before they left.
Isn’t the link you wanted this one ? : http://www.guildmag.com/magazine/issue1-may.pdf
If so, it says the Seers originates from the time of the tome of Rubicon but not more. There is also an issue with the Tome itself. So far the only source I could find (on Google) dating the Tome to before the dragons felt asleep is either you (guru or other sites) or Santax (wiki). In your case you said it should have been written before the fall of the ED because it describes how one general of Primordius fell.
Since then we know that ED champs and ED themselves don’t follow the same cycle so it leaves time between the last Fall of ED and the war between Mursaat and Seers.
There is one thing that puzzles me with the tablets though (outside of the Crystal desert ofc) which is the last one “We mursaat… we returned and built a base among the Fire Islands, as strong as ever.”. Which means that when they came back their main stronghold was on the fire islands…. but Saul couldn’t have met them here, because it does not seem only a 4 days walk (and I am not counting the fact of crossing the sea). They must have migrated after the writing of these tablets. Interestingly In Gw1 their fortress on the fire islands was said to have been built to watch the door of Komalie.
So were the tablets written short after the comeback of the Mursaat in Tyria, that is before they planned to conquer the world, before their war with the Seers and hence during or short before the writing of the tome?
The only time story instances took me forever to finish was when I played Chrono. The rest of the time the story instances were done in a comparable time as other characters. I won’t tell it is exactly the same time but it did not seem much longer. I even cleared solo the Chak nest for the achiev (this time I was playing condi), but it bugged because one chak was encased in the textures
This thread is getting so derailed. All OP wanted was info on when the next raid will be released…
A answer to which is obscured by the mist. Giving a release date would just be spoiler now… or like Crystal Reid herself said once : a stoiler because it would also divulge too much about the story
I am not sure everyone has the same definition of open PvE, that is, random mobs around the corner which you need to kill to fill the event bar.
I don’t get the impression that mesmer lacks in term of burst damage. I always go around with clone on dodge and double clone utility so I can spam my shatter with 3 illusions even before the mobs started to move towards me. With Sw/focus you can play the invuln burst then move them thanks to the field of focus 4…. I even play the might on GS attack traits, pop 3 clones and when might is high, shatter to maximize the F1 damage. It goes as fast as many other profession with a unique difference that mobs don’t jump on me because they are more attracted by illusion. I spend much less time healing than on my Ele when played solo.GS, staff and scepter are the only weapons we have that can pump out clones relatively quickly, of those you only claim to use GS. Even if you fully trait Sword and Focus, you only get 1 clone every 9.5 sec and 1 phantasm every 20 seconds. Again if you trait for it, you can use mirror images every 24 seconds. Look at those cooldowns man. Yes, you can pop mirror images and then kill a single mob with it great. So over the next 24 seconds you can get off one more 3 illusion shatter, 2 if you are running chronomancer. For a grand total of 3 mobs every 24 seconds…… Yes, absolutely blazingly fast kill speeds on mesmer PvE, not to mention that other classes can kill more mobs in less time while using only their weapon skills (ie no utility or class mehanics) and you claim that mesmer keeps up with other classes in terms of DPS?
No I claim that I don’t feel slower in open world progression with Mesmer, but I don’t count time for all activities, which are timed by the game itself in the end. There is less DPS in mesmer than Ele sure… but it is still way higher than the required DPS for open worlds events in any case. Who cares if a fireball crit for 4 k if a mob has 1 k DPS.
Before you quote those numbers they are just examples OK ?

I spend much less time healing than on my Ele when played solo. You’re not going to like this but it needs to be said, if this is indeed true then you’re just bad at ele and this comes from someone with 3.5k+ hours on ele. On staff ele most mobs die in 2 hits, for D/X 2 lightening whips will do the trick, no might stacking needed and that’s without talking about air overload. It’s at the point where I use the glyph heal not because I need a heal but because it gives permanent swiftness in air.
In addition if you truly are using the GS trait to stack might you will be waiting a few seconds before shattering as you described. During that time most other classes have already killed the mobs and moved on. You are also playing a shatter build, even assuming 100% alacrity and illusions line you’re looking g at a 7.5s cool down on your burst while most other classes will kill an extra 1-3 mobs while you’re plinking away with attacks that do half what other professions do.
I simply say that for what is required in open PVE there is no big difference in moving forward or completing events with a mesmer. I may be bad at Ele or you bad at mesmer, who cares… do you really feel impaired with mesmer progression in open world PVE, a.k.a loot party by following a train or chain killing weak mobs to fill an event bar?
I don’t get the impression that mesmer lacks in term of burst damage. I always go around with clone on dodge and double clone utility so I can spam my shatter with 3 illusions even before the mobs started to move towards me.
Oh boy, you can kill mobs effectively once every 30 seconds!
…somehow I remain unimpressed.
If you wanted to be impressed, don’t check open world PvE performance threads…. and with weapon skills you don’t normally have to wait 30 seconds to have 3 clones… the 12 sec CD of mind wrack is even sometimes too long
I am not very experienced in PvP with many profession but so far I did not find one to be really boring because the environment makes you unable to really lock yourself in a routine.
As far as PvE is concerned, mainly in open world, I find Warrior, ranger an to some extent Ele (depending on the build) on the boring side. On the other hand, I never find myself bored when I play Engi, Mesmer and Thief (in the case of thief I feel tired for my character because she spent the last hour jumping in every direction though
)

Initial heal of AED?
Make it a charger instead, charge the damage you are taking instead of waiting to take a critical one, and once is fulled, make his job, overheal you
There are many suggestions around to gadgets in general either a passive/active usage or them to be used automatically under conditions (e.g. when movement impaired you activate rocket boots, when taking lethal damage AED heals you for the samll amount…).
Problem is that seeing how gadgeteer works, the devs intended (at least from my understanding) to have gadgets in tanky builds (because you need to be hit for the trait to charge) but while AED would fit a tank build, the other gadgets are more CC or escape oriented. The really should find a nice spot for gadgets to be useful.
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Tome_of_Knowledge
Grants one character level if below level 80 or one spirit shard if level 80.
Just consume tomes of knowledge on a level 80 character for 1 spirit shard per tome.
The OP acknowledged that exists. They want a QoL improvement to avoid have to double-click, press ‘yes’ just to get one shard.
Well then, it would be easier to ask for a “consume all” option in the right-clic menu, wouldn’kitten
And if devs read this: use the same treatment for levelling scrolls, or find some good use for them because it seems like receiving the super gift for teenagers when you actually are 40 ….
Unless you significantly reduce the rewards and use it solely for what it is intended – to “preview mechanics” and improve accessibility of raiding to the community.
It would never be intended as a replacement for the current raids.
Well that is what is currently implemented in the game and called “phase 1 of the encounter”. It actually served its purpose in my guild. The first nights we tried VG we were getting the feel of green and blue mechanics, sometimes achieving to phase the boss and fail in phase2. We went on until we reached time limit. After that we started to optimize our builds and rotation until we went to phase 3 where we got crushed by the increasing difficulty. We then focused on being more precise on boss movement, which actually served for phase 2 as well. Eventually we killed the boss.
The best is that for all this effort we got rewarded with shards which we used to buy ascended gear to help our progression.
You can look at every boss, they work like this : first easy phase and every time new mechanics. For every reasonable failure you are rewarded… pretty much a practice mode as you describe it.
I played Flex when it got released. It seemed quite good for us as the small guild we were because we could have a roster of 14 people without fearing to exclude people.
Nevertheless, iirc it was not a way to play the raid with less than 10 people but to accommodate between 10 and 30. Not meant to be a training in any kind.
Also there was rapidly a Meta for each boss in the raid based on the number of people because there were different threshold for every boss skill on its intensity (damage) or number of people affected. So it turned out to be Boss 1 should be done with 12, boss 2 with 14, boss 3 with 11….. I think it has been changed as RNG based on number of people by now.
And last but not least, it did not really help to sort out key archetypes, namely tanks and healers because boss mechanics imposed the number of tanks and total number of people the number of healer. Problem was that those two were not the easiest to be found, finding DPS is not hard. We actually had to reject players several times because we had not enough healers for the amount of people who wanted to play.
So Flex did not really bring more people in the raid scene and I would not compare it to any training mode. It had some usefulness for limited roster guilds but it also created new issues we hadn’t before.
Just because we never see the Blighting Trees communicate doesn’t mean they can’t communicate to their subordinates
But doesn’t confirm they do either. My point is we can see things in both directions and right now I am more inclined in seeing Trees as tools rather than entity able to take decision. I am not claiming I know the truth, just saying that this possibility remains open.
For example Cellona seems to be in charge of the operation in Auric basin by ordering mordrem to bring corpse to the Trees.
As for the " power of love ", it is a bit of a caricature because only Konig an Aaron used these words to say it is not working. I was only saying that Ventari could have done more than he thought when he carved the tablet. And I genuinely think Ventari was more into the magical things than presented in GW1. I know gameplay and lore sometimes conflict but why choose him as a Legend of the Past if he was just a mere centaur with stone carving skills…. a stone that revenants can summon in combat (well not the real one but a magical copy of it having healing power).
I mean until now, everybody thought “ok we can only purify dragon minions in specific places (altar of Glaust) with specific ritual”. Now we just need to gather stones, infuse them on leyline nodes, and clay and a corrupted vine seed becomes a friendly vine…. no altar, no ritual, just foxfire as food.
Let the possibilities exist, especially when the “Pale Tree is NOT a dragon Champion” crowd form 2 years ago was as passionate to defend this opinion, sometimes with the exact same arguments.
Also if the Pale Tree was like Glint, that is a purified champion, why would she say " I wish I could be of more service. My knowledge of the world does not extend deeply into the past" when asked about Elder Dragons. I mean would a caring mother not be a bit more preventive for her children and tell them a bit more about their origins if she knew?
The dervish version of the avatar of destruction would be a 10/10 trolling from the devs
Concerning the fire resistance, while I would like it to be a thing (GW:EN was a cool thing when all Ele had to at last change their build) on a champion boss, I think that for gameplay reasons it will be like Megadestroyer and (for this one I am not sure anymore) Pyroxis.
Can we stop with the false narrative that LS3 directly followed the Forsaken Thicket Lore?
Thanks!
After the first episode of LS3 I was like: “so what exactly did we do in the Raid?”
It’s as if it didn’t happen at all so I don’t know where the comments about Raids leading to the next story come from.
It came from people wanting to prove their point of “Anet only gives content to 5% of player instead of me (errr us) the community”. A point that was decided upon wing 1 release (when the map showed it was close to the bloodstone) and strengthened at the end of wing 2 where there was a video of the White Mantle. Combined with the story content break, people started to run in circle and say they bought the expansion but they got fooled and devs only care about raiders now and …. and well it’s called internet a.k.a Armageddon on screen while comfortably seated on a chair everyday.
Maybe the best move would have been to release raid after LS3 ep 1. It would not change the raid experience and story and this tale of it being an intro would not be a thing.
I guess anet is doing the same thing they did with HOT.
LS season 3 is going to lead up to the next expansion where we kill another dragon (likely Primordus). And since they stated they are going for faster expansion output, I think it will arrive in Q4 2017.Don’t quote me on that though.
I think (well I hope) that the difference here will be between the end of the season and expansion release. There was a eight months gap between LS2 and HOT and I think this was somehow a bit too long given the fact they were saying that HOT events starts right after Seeds of Truth. Hopefully this time the gap will be shorter. Even better would be no gap at all but then it would be hard to beta test the game without telling the end of the story….
I think the preview articles stated that the JP of Ember bay is in the Mursaat fortress. It could be a misinterpretation but so far it seems the fortress will be used for the explorable map. Nevertheless, seeing the size on the map, I think 2 explorable maps and a raid would fit
I remember when feedback could one shot bosses in dungeons, or even funnier the jungle wurm in Caledon.
I won’t continue this discussion further because since I read the forum I know all your arguments already, even if I don’t always (like now) agree but
Dragon champions are, by definition, intelligent minions that direct and make minions. And that’s what Blighted Trees do.
I fail to see the intelligence in blighting Trees, and I wonder why if they are, they need a mordrem commander around to order to create new minions and then send said minions to battle.
Edit : I forgot something I wanted to add yesterday :
This vine, while appearing to be touched by Mordremoth, has been grown from seed under the good influence of a hero of Tyria.
Sometimes this is how it works, right ?

Blighting Trees – and in turn Pale Trees – are dragon champions. Bone Ships are literally inanimate objects. No consciousness to them.
That is where I disagree, I don’t think the Trees have a consciousness from the beginning on. I am not even sure they can be called champion (at least I can’t recall anything in game doing so). Bone ships are inanimate because Zhaitan corrupts dead bodies, Mordremoth corrupt plants…which are alive but don’t necessary have a soul/consciousness.
And more than just the Pale Tree would have been purified – Malyck’s tree would have too. By your supposition, Malyck’s tree either must also have gotten a soul of its own somehow or would be creating mordrem.
Malyck Tree would need to be created on human bodies to create sylvari-like mordrem. But it is true that as a mordrem he should be under the control of Mordremoth in a way or another. Maybe when we encounter him he is to far from the jungle to hear the Call. However Malyck is full of mystery since though his first memory is to go out of hid pod (hence has no dream) he is still able to speak the same language as everyone, to use weapon….
However, just having gotten a soul wouldn’t really alter anything because its dragon corruption – souls are victems to dragon corruption even if only as being trapped in vessels they cannot control. Furthermore, unlike other Elder Dragons, Mordremoth can spread its mind across its corruption, so it would just override the Pale Tree. Based on the albeit very little information we know, purification prevents re-corruption (Mordremoth didn’t bother trying to recorrupt the Pale Tree, just as Kralkatorrik never bothered to recorrupt Glint, and the sylvari are not corrupted like other dragon minions, especially mordrem, but instead are more of brought under traditional brainwashing methods).
Soul is certainly not the best word I could use. What I meant is that the benevolence of the Pale Tree, its personality or her nature are actually a manifestation of the Dream.
A regular tree would just create minions, them being controlled by the strongest mordrem entity in the neighborhood, no personality. In that case I think the weapon got hijacked (but maybe not on purpose) by the Dream… through Ventari’s wishes maybe.
The Dream of Dream is not unique to sylvari or Mordremoth – see the White Stag for example. It’s also not (just) a common consciousness but a mindscape, according to Rytlock (and he apparently witnessed mindscapes in the Mists, given his commentary about having enough of them lately), and is not only independent of the Pale Tree/Mordremoth, but actively ushers tasks to sylvari to counter Mordremoth (and the other Elder Dragons) – both Dream and Nightmare do such.
Which indicates that the Dream of Dreams is an independent entity, assailed by Nightmare, which fights against the Elder Dragons as a whole and was hijacked by Mordremoth.
I never said the Dream is unique to Sylvari. I think its existence goes beyond them to the All. The Pale Tree is an anchor to this “realm”, again I think this anchor was made both by the care and hopes of Ventari and Ronan (but mostly the former). Fortunately, this anchor is able to generate creatures, which are then touched by the Dream instead of becoming simple dragon minions. Actually every sylvari through their access to the Dream, can become such anchor, like Traherne was one for Mordremoth mind.
Trap should have cast time (heal trap the first offender) and the Cooldown should start when it trigger. This is the only OPness of traps we have right now.
Like I said in another thread, the activated healing of the heal trap should decrease if the guardian is not within the effect area of the trap….or be globally reduced because right now there is no real clever usage of the heal… which is a big one.
Dragon minions are still enslaved to their Elder Dragons’ will even while said Elder Dragon sleeps – see The Great Destroyer, Drakkar, Svanir, etc.. The Pale Tree’s independence exists for unknown reasons.
Maybe, at least that is how I see it, the Pale Tree is no minion, just a factory. I see Blighted trees are like orrian bone ships : a tool used by the dragon minions is their war.
I don’t think the Pale Tree got purified, it only got a “soul” and its own will, contratry to others trees seen in Maguuma which all have mordrem to “use” it. This may be because she took Ventari’s tablets in her roots and copied its philosophy granting her sentience… or any other thing. To be honest I am always puzzled by the fact that the realm used for sylvari common conciousness is called The Dream, while the Tree grew on a dead centaur who actually had a dream of peace… maybe I am too biased by this …
There are so many open possibilities for next Rev elite spec at the moment: Ranged condi, ranged power (though hammer is already quite powerful but the Devastation traits have weak synergy with it), bruiser, opening range healing a bit maybe….
Thing is, Mesmer already has a ranged power weapon: greatsword. I am not saying it is perfect but I’think the next weapon that would be made would be either:
-Melee condi main hand weapon (axe or dagger?)
-Healing 2-handed weapon (hammer or riffle?)
Healing could also have a main hand weapon but then there would not be any phantasm attached to it and I don’t see a healing spec without a signature phantasm.
One thing i want to change is make tablet spawn when i change to ventari legend. Why i need to press 2 button to start use ventari skills?
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Healing_skill
Every healing skill can be denied. Instant cast mantras require 2.75 seconds to charge. Withdraw has a cast time under .25 seconds preventing use during cc. Infuse light requires you to cast facet of light. The tablet can only be summoned when not cced becaue like withdraw it has a cast time under .25 seconds.
They won’t make rev the only class to heal without preparation or cast.
Given the amount of healing and functionality of Project Tranquility, it looks more like a weak version of soothing mist so there would not be such issue. If you speak about the “on using healing skill” effects, then it could be changed to only summon it without activating a skill, the real skill being Ventari’s Will.
2. Overcharge Blaster: Throw a ball of curing and condition clearing chemicals in front of you (like Guard staff2 but with smaller range)
Skills 3-4-5 : Keep their functionality but make them work like a “throw elixir” skill with a radius of 180, affecting 5 people. Maybe the CD should be somehow increased. There is also the possibility to make them elixirs but then HGH will become 1 stack of might… so better keep them non elixirs
The way I understand it is that Pale/Blighting Trees are just creating “fruits” based on the available bodies around to copy them.
Sylvari are humanoid because the tree was planted on the Ronan’s family. Since this was made when the dragon was sleeping, the tree was somehow uncontrolled by Mordremoth and did not designed the children for fight (she could have hatched mordrem soldier instead).
I tend to think that mordrem trolls are hatched the same way, only the bodies buried closed to the hatchery are those of trolls, which are not rare in the jungle.
I also think Malyck’s tree was planted on human bodies, but contrary to the Pale Tree, it was not watched by Ventari and then the Tree itself did not access to sentience nor got access to the Dream. For that reason I really think Mallyck and his brothers were in the army of mordrem soldiers we killed during HOT.
Now for Primordius corruption, like Konig said he creates new creatures from stone and fire, although his ability to directly corrupt things is not totally ruled out (the discussion started with the grawl shaman from Volcanic Fractal). So I was wondering if there is a possibility that he could corrupt stone Dwarves? It could actually be a strong army for him: berserk corrupt stone dwarves.
I think there are 3 scenarios for the future:
-Every healing Espec will get Grace of the Land buff and there will be competition. (like other profession will have a spotter like buff, non cumulative)
-Next healing Espec will get a buff that tops to 20 % increased damage and Druid will be burried
-They scrap profession buff and then there will be comparison between healers and healer not healers and healers/buffers.You forgot the 4th scenario – that the next heal spec will also get a new buff that will be equally important to the group, and cumulative with already existing ones. Might be another dps buff (cumulative with GotL), or something else completely (think what would have happened if chrono was a heal spec).
In many ways, that wouldn’t be a good option either.
I did not even wanted to think of this option to be honest. Support in this game is already close to be broken when combined to other things. Chrono is nice because it is a support bot but offers weak healing and pitiful DPS. But specs like PSEA which has good DPS and incredibly good support, Druid that heals very well and give good boost are not really balanced. Rev is particular because it offers strong support through facet of nature, but this one can be replaced by gear and the rest of his support is good but can be achieved by other specs.
A few development updates for you guys since there are some things I can clarify here.
While Forsaken Thicket was 3 wings that encompassed a complete story line, that does not mean all raids will be 3 wings. We’ll do that where it makes sense, and sometimes it will make sense to release a stand alone raid with 1 wing if we think we have an interesting story to tell there that doesn’t need to be stretched out over multiple releases.
Sorry to hijack your answer but if you think you can break the cycle by having a raid only composed of one wing, do you also think that now bosses could also not live in circular rooms/platforms ?
It will not give new blood in the mode. It will only create another sub-community of people playing only practice mode.
Worst case scenario it will comfort many players in a behaviour of not questioning themselves about their skill.
I experienced the LFR release in WoW and while the ususal raiders farmed their stuff in low tier, few players made the opposite shift. And for those ones, it was impossible to tell them that they were doing mistakes because their answer was always " don’t tell me what to do I am experienced on this boss, I know the mechanics". What they failed to see is that some mechanics were becoming lethal in the non practice mode.
In GW2 it would generate a lot of players going in normal raid and complaining they got kicked by elitists because they were full PVT exo while they are able to do pracice mode with such gear. In fact it would be the same ones saying today " Yeah but I’ve seen videos of people beating the raid in full exo so stop requiring ascended".
From that survey we can see that players that are willing to raid feel their lack of raid exp, general lack of coordination and know-how in pug groups are putting them off from actively participating in raids. Therefore, it might be a good idea to have some system in place for those new players to practice boss mechanic and improve raid coordination.
Following the logic of “I fear to go in raid because I have never done” the next step will be to have an Easy Easy mode to let people practice for the Easy mode…..
No raider is magically experienced, everyone has to try and do mistakes before feeling experienced.
If one want to practice boss mechanics, P1 of most encounter gives a good flavor without adding too many layers. If one want to improve coordination, it is better to find people to play with because coordination involve several people. If you find like minded people, you learn as a group, practice as a group…
An easy mode will not improve social skills. If people don’t raid because they are scared from others, this will be the same with easy raid.
If anything this survey (for what it worth…I would not call the audience representative) does not show that raids are actually too hard, only 6 % of non raiding people answering the survey say they don’t raid because it is too challenging….
In fact it depends how they will expend the class in the future. For now Druid are preferred not for their heal (because an Ele has more constant healing and is less strict about positioning) but for their heal + damage buff.
I think there are 3 scenarios for the future:
-Every healing Espec will get Grace of the Land buff and there will be competition. (like other profession will have a spotter like buff, non cumulative)
-Next healing Espec will get a buff that tops to 20 % increased damage and Druid will be burried
-They scrap profession buff and then there will be comparison between healers and healer not healers and healers/buffers.
Option 2 would be the worst case but I admit I don’t like too much the amount of specific buffs right now because they are not removable (in PvP), they are difficult to track while playing and they clutter the interface.
