that’s the problem with every mmo. expansions=adding stuff to make you more powerful in developers minds which is just a terrible mindset to have
the pacing of pre-hot pvp was far more enjoyably than what we have now, even with cele eles walking around being immortal. the pacing was fast enough to make sure timing and reflexes mattered, but slow enough to allow for strategic play, they had a real nice sweet spot there
but with the introduction of raids, they did away with the rule of not following the trinity of tank/dps/healer and implemented healers. a big mistake imo. you’ve gone from very nice paced combat where builds could be diverse enough without feeling completely unplayable to a meta only situation where damage output has to be much higher due to the presence of healers in a sense
conditions and boons feel very cluttered right now with combat being very chaotic, and we have raids to thank for that :\
if you don’t like condi then just get yourself a full set of zerker gear and use basically any power build
spite/soul reaping if you like your shroud, or spite/blood magic for group support in the form of life siphon
if you wanna do easy mode, slot in all minions with rise and use blood magic/death magic trait lines
weapons use dagger/warhorn and staff for its utility. gs is a pack of crap with its incredibly slow attacks except where loads of cleave is needed. and even then you have shroud for that
axe/focus is trash tier for everything so i wouldn’t bother with them.
for reaper, decimate defences is stupid strong especially considering you can get near 25 stacks of vulnerability if you build around it
you can use that in pretty much all pve content except probably raids cause viper horror is just so strong, even still, shroud makes you tanky enough with zerker stats and with decimate defences you can dish out some pain with almost 100% crit

just use the spite signet build with curses and laugh as u rip everyone’s boons away while sustaining in shroud

if you want condi ranged, you have sceptre/dagger, for power you have axe/focus (laughable tho lol just go melee)
staff has its role and is very much loved by pvp players, don’t touch it

I’ve played debuffing classes in every single game that I could. Some that come to mind are affliction lock and unholy dk in wow, necrolock in rift, condi necro here.
I think where some of the hate stems from is power players don’t really understand the role of a debuffer. Our role is to supply reduced effectiveness to the enemy team and spread pressure.
Our role is supplemental by its very nature and is the exact opposite of buffers. Without debuffers you’ll have buffers pumping up their team to extraordinary strengths, and then it turns into a game of who can apply the most boons the quickest. Debuffers are the direct result of buffers and are necessary to promote healthy gameplay.
The problem at the moment, is the fact that everything is out of hand. This is because of power creep and bad design, nothing else.
And the reason that condi only really needs one stat to perform is because our damage takes time. Precious time that could have enemy players arrive to help their friend being debuffed. This means we need defensive stats to stay alive against the aggressive power players, toughness and vitality are necessary in order for a debuffer to be truly effective.
And onto the argument that condis aren’t affected by boons like protection? Well condis are also not affected by damage increases like Close to Death. This is a fair trade-off, I’ll happily have my condis affected by boons like protection if it means they’ll be affected by damage multipliers as well, I can always boon rip or transfer to condi, you can’t stop my dots ticking harder when you’re under 50% apart from cleansing and resistance, and my condi application is always going to outperform your cleansing.
Now I think where a lot of the hate and “condi spam” mentality comes from, is the fact that no one likes to be weakened. Everyone likes being stronger, more effective, as this marks progress. Debuffing takes that away. And the mentality that condi takes no skill, probably comes from the thought process of, “he’s making me 50% less effective, if i were at full effectiveness id be able to kill him, he must be a bad player because he needs the crutch of making me weak to win”.
That’s where the hate comes from, it’s not that condi players are bad or whatever, it’s the thought that we need condis to put ourselves on the same level as the enemy, which is simply untrue. Personally, if I can destroy someone using a condi build, I can certainly destroy them using a power build.
I’m sorry if this is hard to follow or if I missed some things, I’m writing this on my phone so it’s difficult to keep an argument coherent. For me anyway.

Shroud 1. .5 sec cast time, increase range to 1200 maybe even 1500, damage reduced by 35%, piercing is fine but exploding would be nice.
Shroud 2. .5 sec cast time, ground targetable, 900 range, instant teleport, causes chill in 600 aoe around teleport destination.
Shroud 3. Untouched.
Shroud 4. Pulsing stability during the channel, you want stability on this to complete the cast and refill your life force as much as possible.
Shroud 5. Remove the immobilise, replace with chill or cripple, reduce cooldown, 900 range, 5 targets.
Done.
lack of diversity is not exclusive to necromancer
because their design vision around greatsword doesn’t match with pvp
pvp is about fast paced mobility, greatsword is about slow, strong attacks. guess what will win that match up.
I agree on almost everything except removing stealth. That, to me, is good for the game and is what thieves are mainly built around.
What I think needs to be addressed is the duration of stealth you can achieve.
maybe don’t give us so many boons to convert then
like, for example, glint revenants?
Just need to change it to have the bleed at a higher stack and shorter duration.

PvP hasn’t been all that great since HoT.
A big problem is skill bloating.
Another big problem is that elite specs are necessary for literally every class. They should have been balanced with all the other trait lines, but they weren’t. They should have been simply a different way to play that class, but they weren’t.
Now it’s literally skill spamming whereas in the core game it felt a lot smoother and fun to play, you had time to react to situations and there was more skill involved with using your abilities correctly.
TL;DR: elite trait lines weren’t balanced with the core game, possibly to garner more sales.
you’re honestly gonna take anything people like that say to heart?
they usually have no bloody clue, just ignore them
pite: first line is okay, bottom trait is probably better though for more vulnerability uptime
second line, you’re probably going to be best off with the top trait. sub-50% health you’re passively ripping boons, chilling which will apply 5? stacks of vulnerability, and dealing additional damage.
soul reaping: you really should be running middle trait and staff on the first line, the utility of staff alone is worth taking in pvp. access to aoe regen/bleed, chill/poison, condition transfer, and fear all unlockable and all generating life force. come on.
last line, is a toss up. you’re already running zerker and decimate defences so it’s a little overkill to me. i would either run the stun break or dhuumfire. despite being a power build (why) extra pressure is always nice. but that’s just me.
reaper: again second line middle trait is a bit overkill, i would either change something else up or switch that one out with something else. might on striking a chilled target is relatively decent? i mean, i guess. there’s not much on that tier tbh. i would say keep decimate defences and switch it up somewhere else, but again that’s just me.
use deathly chill, even if you’re a power build cause again more pressure.
also you should probably look at using a condi build or maybe even a hybrid. straight power isn’t as strong as it used to be
weapons i would recommend using dagger/warhorn and staff
also runes of the scholar is a bit… not that good for pvp. i mean how often are you going to be above 90% health? considering you’re using no defensive stats, i would say rune of hoelbrak is better for the -20% condi uptime on you

i feel like allowing us to choose which shroud we want to use wouldnt be terribly game breaking, nor would it be bad game design
you take reaper but decide you prefer death shroud over reaper shroud. so you switch reaper shroud out for death shroud, much like how our utility slots work. no big deal
dont give us the ability to straight up switch between the 2 shrouds during combat, give us choice. i dont see anything wrong with that

full zerk with decimated defences means you can maintain like 100% crit in all forms, not just shroud, and take dhuumfire for extra damage. you might not be condi build, but burning does nice damage even if you have no condi stats. going that way means you crit like, all the time. or you can take foot in the grave for that cc break which can be helpful sometimes
valkyrie gives you a bit more survivability with the vitality and you dont necessarily sacrifice crit by taking that. death perception keeps you at 100% crit for shroud, and you maintain a nice 50% crit in all other forms
that is like, the only difference
edit: oh also, going valkyrie means youre funnelled into decimated defences all the time. this slows down your solo damage quite considerably and your critting isnt dependant on the mob having vulnerability stacks.
that and dodging is better than vitality anyway

id rather see one more focused around raising more and more minions
using your life force as costs for different minions with different effects, the quicker you can generate your life force and summon, the more minions you can have
of course, we would need some sort of minion control

i don’t feel cheated or anything. you’ve been given how many years of content for the original price of the game? considering the work that was put into it, i don’t mind paying for an expansion.
pros:
- pve is a bit more engaging than before
- elite specs add fun new playstyles to the game
- gliding is radical
- events im finding are actually fun
- maguuma is incredibly designed
- rata novus
cons:
- most elite specs are strong to the point where if you don’t run it, you’re severely hindering yourself compared to players who are. some don’t really change playstyle at all and are just a flat upgrade to the current base class. this is a problem as it seriously hinders build diversity and health of the game, imo
- pvp pacing has gone through the roof to the point where skilful ability usage is barely a factor anymore and just whoever is the faster masher can decide the fight. that being said, positioning is still a factor that hasn’t changed all that much
i more or less have 0 issue with the expansion apart from the cons ive outlined there. pvp used to be well paced, rewarded skilful ability usage and positioning, and had decent enough build diversity. could it have had more diversity? definitely. was class balance an issue? somewhat. but compared to the class balance now as a necro, i preferred d/d ele rather than what we have now
again this is just my opinion on what ive experienced, i know someone is going to come in and “correct” me, but like i said, im just not enjoying pvp all that much since hot was released

all classes don’t need to be good at everything ever. foot in the grace gives you more opportunity to turn the fight to your favour, that’s it. if that’s not for you, then take death perception or dhuumfire. it’s sufficiently powerful enough as it is.
use spite/blood magic/soul reaping, zerker stats, dagger+whatever/whatever
and then whichever utilities suit you best. consume conditions is probably the best heal bar none. but basically just build the old power necro and tear stuff apart. your damage output will be mental and any survivability you lost from defensive stats will be offset with your siphoning.
if it’s the fastest at max level for short fights, logic dictates it should be the same at lower levels

But that’s the point. If the elite specializations weren’t blatantly stronger than the core classes, PvPers would have no reason to buy the expansion.

they have every right to charge us for expansions considering the amount of content you get for it.
the slap in the face is the fact that unless you have the elite specs, you may as well just not even play pvp. the fact that theyre so blatantly stronger than literally anything else you can play and that you cant access them unless you buy the expansion, is whats wrong here.

unfortunately, the fact of the matter is that they handled elite specs all wrong
the elite specs shouldnt have been a flat and obvious upgrade to the class like reaper, chronomancer, or dragonhunter. it should have been balanced against the existing core specs and give you a new way to play your class.
for some classes, i feel that it was achieved somewhat, i.e. scrapper. note, i said somewhat; i still believe its stronger than anything else you have available, just that its closer to core spec balance than something like chronomancer which is just a flat upgrade to the class as a whole.
theres a huge list of things i would like to see done in order to bring things back to how they were, but i cant be bothered to type all that out cause believe me. its kitten extensive.
i just hope they balance the elite specs against the core specs again and reduce the overall pace of spvp and amount of cc going around. pre-HoT was a good pace and spvp was fun overall, now its just a joke.

they’re not trying to screw people over, they made a decision they thought was good for the game to be able to continue to run and were potentially wrong, ask them to put it back. but don’t go spouting how shady and backhanded they were. you’ve been given literally 3 years of a substantial amount of content for a very, very, very reasonable sum. i get that you want stuff back that you once had, but to all of a sudden essentially throw a tantrum and call them names over it? cmon seriously

My build is Spite/Soul Reaping/Reaper for PvE with Berserker stats.
Considering the survivability boost for minions coming out with HoT, I was wondering whether it would be worth it to run with minions in some of my skill slots but here’s my issue.
Their damage does not scale off player stats.
Most of them don’t have decent utility on bosses, with the exception of the Flesh Wurm teleport and Bone Minions for blast finishers.
I don’t want to go into Death Magic.
So are they worth using without Necromantic Corruption? I know the 25% damage increase is big, but I feel like I lose too much replacing Spite or Soul Reaping with Death Magic in this build.

I had a quick look at the error codes you were getting over here.
The game client lost its connection to the server.
Which means it could potentially be a DNS issue. Try flushing your DNS cache.
For Windows users simply follow these steps:
1. Windows Key+R
2. Type cmd then hit Enter
3. Type ipconfig /flushdns then hit Enter
4. And just for good measure, I like to renew after flushing DNS so type, ipconfig /renew and hit Enter
5. Boot the GW2 client and login.
Mac users go here and select the appropriate terminal commands for the OS you’re running.

I’ve also been unable to buy gems. There is nothing wrong with my cards, they both have plenty of money in them, they both have not gone over any daily withdrawal limits or anything. I don’t know whether or not my cards have been debited, but if they have I will be pretty kitten kitten . Though, from what I’m getting on screen; it looks like I haven’t been debited.
I’ve sent in a ticket 2 days ago, no response. You’d think that they would be all over tickets about problems with giving them money. Every day this isn’t fixed, they lose money.
Anyway, I would like at least a response saying what the problem is and when it will be fixed, also whether or not people will be credited back their money if it has already been debited.
