Latency issues from UK through BT gateways

For the past week I have had lag at random intervals. Today it has been all day, any time, any where, any zone.

I have run some ping tests using WinMTR to the IP addresses that I am connecting to in the game, while experiencing the issue. I am getting some loss from ae-2-70.edge6.Frankfurt1.Level3.net which is the 4th last hop.

Why is nothing being done about this? I have looked around the forums and can only find other players making similar posts about the same issue. Clearly this is affecting a larger client base and needs a responce, not just merging posts into one massive thread that seems to get ignored.

Instead of just complaining, I am trying to post relevant information. Please provide an IP address you wish me to ping to test my connection.

PC Specs:
CPU: Intel Core i7 3.5GHz
GPU: Gigabyte GTX760 4GB
RAM: 16GB(2×8) DDR3 Dual-Channel
OS: Windows 8 64bit

Connection Details:
Router: Thompson Technicolor TG582N
ISP: BTW (BT Wholesale/Business)
Country: UK

Troubleshooting:
Speed: 23.1Mbps
Latency: 27ms
Jitter: 2ms

It times out because the server/router does not accept WAN ping requests.

This is exactly why I asked days ago for an IP address that we can use to run more accurate diagnostic tests from our connections!

What frustrates me is there seems to be no reply, no news announcements of this when it’s clearly a larger issue.

LAG. DISCONNECTS. peak time BT ISP throttle?

I am on a BTW (BT Wholesale) business package which is completely unlimited. There is no peak time restrictions, no P2P restrictions etc. However, I am having sever lag in GW2 the past week!

I know for a fact it’s not my ISP, because my ISP is the company I work for who hosts their own data network from servers based in Telehouse London. Our network links directly via a gigabit pipe to BTW hostlinks. I have 3 hops on my tracert to Google DNS (my previous ISP had 19 hops!). I am able to view the data on our network and we’re running at less than 5% capacity right now, yet I’m lagging like mad! Since my connection is basically uncontended, this shows that the issue is “off-net” for me.

Furthermore, since other players who are on BT or BT-backed connections, are also having this issue, it is logical to conclude that one of the links our connection routes through on the BT network to reach a-net, is at fault. This is the responsiblity of the host (a-net) to contact that provider and raise a fault.

The thing with BT, is you cannot let them dictate their usual “check back in 48hours for an update” crap, you need to badger them hourly to get results. Demmand to speak to Managers, Supervisors etc as the general staff cannot do anything.

I am still experiencing periodic lag. Today is quite bad as it is affecting me in all zones, no matter what I am doing. I just tried to do a dungeon and was kicked form the group because my lag was so bad.

The attached WinMTR ping test was done to the IP of the dungeon while I was experincing the lag.

Do we have an ETA as to when BT are expected to resolve the issues? My ISP is a BTW (BT Wholesale) product with no restrictions.

I use utility called WinMTR to ‘simulate’ a connection/stream to the same IP that my game client is currently connecting to. The test that I have attached was run while in-game and connected to the LA event (not overflow) and while I was experiencing the lag. Interestingly, the test does not show any lost packets or latency.

Is there a specific IP address we should be pinging to test our connection route to the game servers? I have been typing /IP in-game to see the current server I am connecting to.

I have had no issues at all with network lag or latency until today. I waited to join the Escape from Lion’s Arch event at 14:05 GMT on Gandara (not overflow), entered the event and played for about 15minutes before hitting huge lag spikes and being disconnected. I am now unable to log on ANY of my characters, even ones that are not in this zone.

Router: Thompson TG582N
PC: Intel Core i7 3770K @ 3.5GHz, 16GB DDR3 RAM, Gigabyte 4GB GTX760 GPU, Corsair SSD 525/535 W/R
OS: Windows 8 64bit

I logged into the game after many attempts and was able to chat in guild (but not in world or map) so typed /ip and have attached some network stats for your review.

PathPing.txt ยป Path Ping to 206.127.159.155

Exact Error Message: “The game client lost its connection to the server. Please wait a few minutes before restarting the client and trying again. (Code=7:11:3:191:101)”

Just an additional note, I was able to log on perfectly fine wthout lag immediately after the LA event had ended at 14:50. However, I then travelled to another world event in a different zone (IP: 206.127.159.81) and had no lag until I reached the event where there were other players and then had 2-3minute lag spikes until being disconnected. After the event, I was still lagging and have now given up on trying to play.

I’ve only recently started to play GW2, for the past 3 weeks or so. In that time I’ve thouroughly enjoyed the game up to the point of now having to get gear at lv80.

Firstly, I think that it is absolutely rediculous the sheer cost of crafting something and the difficulty in obtaining the materials required. I’m not talking about farming materials, which simply requires effort, I’m talking about vendor materials! I require 30 “Obsidian Shards” to craft a single item. I do not wish to waste skill points or laurels, which I need for other gear, but cannot purchase these with my 200k Karma! This is because the vendor requires you to put together a massive group, mess about pointlessly for ages to retake the Temple of Balthazar, then you can get what you need. That is completely rediculous! Just put the NPC in a camp somewhere, done. People do not want to screw about for hours just to purchase something.

Secondly, I am fed up of being on the floor dying from a single hit from any mob, boss or event in the world! I got to lv80 so I could avoid that but find myself fighting for my life every step of the way. Furthermore, when you’re in danger you run FASTER not slower! Duh. I want to be able to walk through a zone without being slowed, stunned, knocked back and killed because I cannot out-run mobs and I do not want to have to kill the entire map to get two ore nodes in the distance!

Thirdly, respawn timers are way, WAY too quick! You spend 10-15mins cleaning all the mobs so you don’t die only to find they respawn like 40seconds later!

Lastly, why is my character so weak?! I have a Ranger with a DPS build who only has 16k hp and no defence at all. This means anything and everything rips my face off at the first touch. Because there are no healers or defensive abilities (bar one) I am on the floor dying all the time. In my 3 weeks of playing I have died over 200 times now. It is getting tedious. Why should a DPS class be forced to stack ‘Tank’ stats just to nerf their DPS to the groun so they can survive more than a single hit?
