Keep these kind of puzzles coming Anet, it was fun and easy to finish after a bit of practice
WvW is considered PvE to Anet, you can see they divide skills to work differently in SPvP and PvE.. and WvW gets the PvE versions, SPvP has had updates.. soooo what are you whining about?
Why oh why would anyone from arenanet associate themselves with Kotaku.. of all websites they could pick from.. i’ll wait for someone to post a transcript or something.
big sigh
Siege is a counter to this.
Siege is not brilliant vs this, it is effective I agree.. but all it takes is one mesmer and a portal and that entire turtle is ontop of your siege.
It’s an example of the ‘arms race’ that occurs in most mmo pvp.. the game is still quite young and people are discovering new ways to fight using the mechanics to the best of there abilities
The aoe limit has lead us up to this point, while the tactic does have some ways to counter it it is more often far more taxing on the ones trying to break the ‘turtle’ then it is for the people who are gathered up doing it.
Either people will figure out a truely effective method of fighting it.. and the arms race will continue to the next strong tactic.. or things will grow stale and Anet might have to step in and adjust things to bring back some variety.
Okay, here is what Arenanet should do.
Not give out stupid ‘previews’ to websites.. because they hardly cover any information that actual players want to know about.. being vague is not good.
Put informative previews on your own kitten website.. i’m sure alot of the upset that is going on is just because the info is so vague, put it into perspective or don’t tell us at all please.
Trouble is, Anet decided to show us server rankings.. which are for the sole purpose of matching up servers of similar ability over a period of time.
People decided to use this list as a way of saying “look we are the best!” and a very competitive element is added to a game style that doesn’t really ask for it, now I don’t entirely think this is a bad thing.. it builds community and gives competitive focused players something to fight for..
but! it gets taken too far.. entire guilds leaving servers on a weekly basis.. people yelling inside eternal battlegrounds for people to leave so there guild members can join and much much more are becoming the norm.
Pumping gold like this into the economy every month would be a very poor idea, think about it please.. just for a minute or two :P
Guys from DS [IRON] stop exploiting with thief on supply camps.
This is pathetic :/ Play fair. Please dont dissapoint us.Thanks.
please do explain to me how using the stealth mechanics put in the game by arenanet is exploiting? don’t cry “cheater!” just because you can’t handle and deal with the game mechanics
Ya, it was a visual culling bug. It will be fixed next patch.
Cheers.
Guess what, this is now an official bug exploit. Stealth is not supposed to last that long.
Where does he say it’s an exploit? Many players across all servers are doing this.. we had problems with thieves doing this all last week, why suddenly complain about it?
Everyone hopes they fix it because yeah.. it’s very annoying to play against, but so are many other things people use in wvw, stop complaining and learn to adapt and deal with it until Anet decide on how they want it to be.
If you feel like you need to be constantly rewarded in games to feel like you aren’t wasting your life, please stop playing games altogether.
The more you put into wvw, the more you will get out of it.. that goes for pretty much everything.. ever.
Join a guild.. get connected with other guilds who wvw, communicate.. learn what wins the match ups.. learn what is effective in wvw.. find your niche in there and enjoy it for what it is.
I have 30 or so of these left after the halloween binge on lion chests.. I primarily wvw in this game, I am going to be able to go on for ages without paying a single copper for repairs… good stuff imo
Escorting the dolyaks means your chances of winning that week are higher then those who don’t escort them and have them killed repeatedly.
You will start to see more variety as you go, Leather workers have access to 8 complete sets of different gear.. so approx one per 10 levels.. once you have access to the orders there is more suits of gear there.. cultural gear comes into the picture at level 35 and onward.. dungeon armours.. wvw gear.. karma gear..
As for transmutation stones, each use lets you swap the look of one item for another. Simple as that.. they are hardly a gem store rip off though, you get given piles of them for map completion.. sometimes via daily quests, they are in lion chests too, i’m currently sitting on 80 or so of these things without having to buy any :P
I like the variety it enables.
I dislike how flat it feels as you level.. +10 power? woo.
I dislike the way stats are tied to some lines of traits.. the necro ‘Curses’ line of traits is such a mess for example.
The one thing i’m dreading from a tropic/piratey/sea monstery piece of content…
Water combat.
Remove the physical orb object, change it into a boon that only transfers on death (and goes to whoever dealt the most damage to the target) Whoever has the boon in has a large unique look so is easily identifiable (map icon as well)
Once inside keeps the boon is transfered to the keep lord, who must be killed to have the boon stolen (no stupid altar breaking hacks)
Change the orb from a physical item in the world into a boon on a player that is only removed on death, whoever deals the killing blow gains the boon.
Now to spice things up a bit, have the boon change the player into a super tall avatar of one of the gods.. (randomly determined when first taking the boon) with funky abilities to match, this way they are easy to spot in combat (also give ’em an icon on the map just like the normal orb)
When a player returns to a keep they transfer the boon onto the keep lord by speaking to him (performing a ritual I guess).. the keep lord takes on the form of said god and bestows the borderlands with a buff specific to that god (nothing as OP as the current orb! but unique to the god would be cool)
This way the keep lord must be killed (counters hacking) to steal the boon, which is going require a (shock horror) team effort :P
I’m sure Anet could flesh it out more then I have here, any thoughts?

Here is a pic of my Sylvari Necromancer with her cultural weapons finally!
The whole 2v1 dynamic is something that having 3 ‘factions’ is supposed to create.. maybe not 24/7 but that situation is supposed to happen when the design includes 3 different teams.
Generally it’s the two losing factions teaming on the winning one, that doesn’t mean it’s the only way to go though, maybe in the weeks to come these servers will try to fight off all comers instead of what is going on right now, I guess they felt like they needed the help to get what they wanted done!
Sadly no, since that sounds like a cool way to do it
In the Grove (the Sylvari home city) are three vendors who sell cultural armour, a tier 1.. 2 and 3 set that get progressively more expensive, good thing is they are the ‘leafy’ armour types that you ask for.. there is also a trio of vendors selling Sylvari styled weaponry in the Grove.
Another way to obtain this kind of stuff is through the twilight arbor explorable dungeon paths, if you save up the tokens and visit the twilight arbor npc in Lions Arch they sell armour and weapons of Sylvari design.
As far as I know this is all of it, there is enough variety to mix and match pieces for a more unique look… though it can get expensive :P
I totally agree it could use a little more.. ‘oomph’ We all know the necro as a whole needs a bit of fixing.. death shroud in it’s current state has many uses though.. just think many condition necros can’t see past there own build to see it.
Many of these comments are coming from condition build necro’s.. stuff like dark path teleporting you, that part of the skill is there to provide utility to a wide variety of builds.. you need to think about the necro as a whole and not just how it effects your build specifically, I play a power/vit/healing necro and I get a ton of good use out of that teleport.. the conditions are just a bonus for me.. remember you can cast dark path, cancel death shroud before the skill hits and still benefit from the teleport/gap closer.
This kind of thinking goes across all classes, some guardians make little use of virtues.. doesn’t mean they are useless for those builds, other builds with trait support can make them into core abilities for that particular build.
- Realised I shoulda posted this in suggestions instead of wvw forum really! **
In the pve world, we have access to cultural items that bring flavour to the different races of Tyria.
I think it would be cool.. and add more depth to wvw combat to have access to cultural siege equipment, and upgrades to towers/keeps
Make them available to everyone (maybe discount the price if you happen to be the correct race when purchasing).. for example something like this:
As well as the basic arrow cart, options to buy…
Sylvari arrow cart > give it a chance to cast entangling roots on hit
Human/Krytan arrow cart > Master crafted, increased damage
Charr arrow cart > explosive shots.. burning damage
Norn arrow cart > can fire a shot with greater force with a chance to knock people down
Asura arrow cart > couldn’t think of something but you get the idea!
That is stuff I just thought up in a few minutes, imagine upgrades in keeps as well.. turn the walls into thorny/vine covered sylvari walls that poison enemies on contact.. or the ability to lay charr land mines around the perimeter of a tower :P
I think it would change up some tactics, guilds might favour one style of ram over another.. or enjoy using certain kinds of catapults in specific situations… it opens up loads of customisation for towers/keeps as well, let us choose what type of guards to hire and let them have a racial effect.. same goes for the cannons on towers/keeps as well
Just spitting ideas mostly, what do you people think?

Never heard of the millenium falcon?!..
I give up, I don’t want to live on this planet any more
Don’t think this thread needs to go much further, whether these kitten hackers are at it again or if it’s a misunderstanding.. it sucks and doesn’t need to turn into people accusing each other.
Well the exact same thing happened when stuff was being hacked by Kodash and Seafarers over the past few days.. get annoyed with Arenanet if you want to be annoyed at something, could be players defending that stuff who had no idea how it got capped.. gets very muddy when there are so many players running about :/
meh.. sucks that this happened again, doesn’t matter what server they are on.. hackers kittening suck.
Any siege equipment on the defensive side of a siege is only there to delay the attackers, unless the attackers come in very small numbers.
Anything placed on the walls can be aoe’d down with some effort, players on the wall aren’t really able to kill attackers as they can’t bring more then a few skills to bare at any one time.. sometimes the combined shots will knock some people over but usually not enough to have attackers even think about falling back.
Best ways i’ve seen in game so far to deal with it include:
1) Players grouping on a mes portal, mesmer rushes out of the postern gate and drops other side of portal… contents of the keep goes through and aoes the hell out of the attackers. Seen this work just as well with players just grouping and rushing out of the gate.. never seen it fail with a mes though.
2) A rush of players coming from another angle, preferably behind the attackers.. this will bring defenders out to help as well, needs a sizeable force to avoid just getting stomped.
3) Building siege inside the walls can be effective, balistas especially.. the bottleneck of most gates can sometimes be all you need but this one is very last ditch effort.
Could name a few more but these are ones i’ve seen work most often, most require player action and communication.. which sadly isn’t always something people want to take part in, many seem happy to sit on the walls spamming there one aoe while there keep/tower slowly gets crushed.
What exactly happened? I was playing for most of today and didn’t see anything like what you describe.. bounced around the different borderlands too.
How often are you dying in wvw? I played two hours of wvw before posting here and I died three times.. that is a drop in the ocean when you are constantly getting rewards and bags for doing pretty much anything
Here’s a pic I posted in another thread, from some wvw earlier.. both opponents and allies invisible, NEEDS a fix.
The real problem here is invisible enemies. Give their algorithms time to match servers properly.

Added a pic I took 10 minutes ago, annoyingly enough the fact we couldn’t even see what was coming towards us had us losing stonemist castle about 5 mins after this was taken.. doesn’t really matter though.. the real problem is how poor a gaming experience this ‘feature’ is … it’s not fun to play.
I’m surprised they put this badges system into the game at all, they designed the rest of wvw to be so unrestrictive and yet they put this breadcrumb trail of badges into the game.. it does bad things to the gameplay, people end up focusing to much on getting there ‘rewards’ then actively helping in the big picture.
I know today has been a frustrating time for wvw players on Deso, we were all looking forward to some relief from the french servers with maxed out population in the dead of night capping all the things.. remember it wasn’t every player on seafarers and kodash hacking.. hell next time it might be some idiot on Deso who does it, no use getting bent out of shape over it.
I agree though it feels like we can’t catch a break, last weeks hell and now this to kick off a new week of wvw.. it is having a massive impact on the playerbase on Deso who take part in wvw, people just don’t want to play if it means dealing with stuff like this..which just has us getting out manned and falling behind.
Much respect to every player who hangs in there throughout the week on Deso, not much else I can add :/
Raising the level cap is really not necessary in this game. To steal an example from GW1, they could introduce Cantha with its own range of zones, dungeons, and personal storyline that takes you from level 1 to 80, and every player (regardless of their level) would be able to enjoy the new adventure in its entirety thanks to the scaling mechanics.
You don’t have to tack on 5 or 10 character “levels” to do this (as GW1 showed). There are other ways to allow character progression.
This pretty much nails it imo, they have created so much room in this game to expand upon without needing to up your levels.. i’d actually be a little sad if thats the route they take.. some people might argue for more skills/traits.. just include new weapons and add more traits.. simple as that.
What sucks is lets say server A hacks an orb from server B.. it’s blatent, everyone saw it etc..
Server A will defend that orb just as hard as if they won it fair and square.. nice behaviour :/
Disabling the orbs would be Arenanet admitting that the hacking is a serious problem.. I would be very surprised to see it happen.. but I would LOVE to see it happen, while they are at it .. redesign the orb/outmanned buff please :P
Yesterday on Deso, people were pumped up to play the new week of wvw after getting night capped to death by french servers… today people have a bad taste in there mouth after seeing orbs hacked and it’s messed with the morale of the whole wvw community on our server.. it sucks.

you guys here have to realize that the issue of invisible enemies is not an issue of your computer. even the NASA computers would have invisible enemies.
it is an issue with Arenanet and the way they have developed this game. at the beginning this game didnt even have this “feature”. then people complained about performance issues, so Arenanet put in this “barrier-feature” for everyone – in order to have less complaints from users and better server stability for themselves.
give them time to fix it.
I wish this was more realised, every night I see people bewildered that there i7 rig is suffering from invisible player syndrome… it is a restraint put in place by the devs.. nothing to do with your pc specs!
they hacked and got 3 orbs without any effort

Thank you very much for checking back in on this thread HabibLoew and giving us more feedback.. I was actually stunned to see it, games i’ve played in the past would just let a thread like this die.
We players really hope you can do something to resolve this, ‘fighting the good fight’ only goes so far when you get ran over by 40 people who don’t even appear on your screen until you are dead.
Hope you guys and gals can nail the issue once and for all.
I guess it’s just a case of people doing what is optimal.. even when there is no need or reason to do it
People are really so cheap that they only use lions arch because of the mists? C’mon now.. how often do you go back to lions arch? Every 5 minutes or something?
I prefer to use rata sum and the grove because the crafting area is right next to the bank/black lion guys..
It’s not hard to make money in this game.. and there is hardly anything that even costs much gold, so you are making this money and have very few things to spend it on, whats the big deal? :P

Bump!
This issue is one that must be resolved, preload standard models while we load into the borderlands if thats what it takes… 50 guys high on swiftness buffs running into you in wvw is a complete joke right now… you might see 1/5 guys loaded up before 30/40 are trampling your corpse.
When combat is less mobile it’s fine.. while sieging etc, mobile groups running around together cause unplayable problems for opponents.
Bump.
It just means you need to unequip armour for a moment while you transmute it, I think it was causing some messed up/unintentional looks before if you did it while you had the item equipped.
I just went ingame to test it.. tbh I couldn’t see any difference from how it worked before, I equipped a pistol.. and transmuted it with one in my bag, worked fine even though I had it equipped.
Soooo.. I dunno :P
Most of you kinda went off topic.. but oh well, least people looked :p
In my experience with gw2, the story up till around level 50 was the most fun and enjoyable part of the story for me, here is what i’d like to see in expansions to come.
Upon logging in with your character with a new expansion, have the game pull you back into the character creation process.. with a new series of questions about what you have done in the time since you defeated Zhaitan.. a few different questions leveled at the player to kickstart the new story (and give players that feeling of controlling there own story) would be awesome.
Perhaps let some of the choices players made in the orignal game have more impact, like the question about gods for the humans.
I am hoping it doesn’t just go straight into the next ‘build an army > kill dragon’ kinda story, all of the earlier stuff in the game told us so much more about the world and the type of characters who live within it.. and for me that was way more interesting then dealing with Zhaitan himself.
