The new Dragon helm we all get from the festival is very welcome, it’s a cool piece of gear..

If you put more stuff like this in the gemstore.. be it helms.. shoulders.. chests.. whatever, with the level of detail that that dragon helm has.. people would eat it up!

Why still downed state in WvW?

The downed state is a critical part of the balance of pvp in this game, all the skills.. numbers.. health pools of professions are balanced around all things that effect combat, which includes that chance for a comeback from being downed.

Removing the downed state in custom pvp might suit a dueling style gameplay, but it does essentially break part of the balance that Anet have been shooting for with there game so far..

It’s part of the game, get over it.. if you blitz someone down in a few moments with your build and then struggle to finish them off.. that is a weakness you need to overcome, not for the devs to fix for you, it’s balanced this way for a reason :P

I do it on the days I play some guild wars 2.. which might be three/four evenings in a week for varying amount of time, it doesn’t make me want to play more.. and since it’s so easy to finish the tasks given, when I do play I usually end up finishing it doing whatever else I was doing anyway.

People are dumb, the simple builds that work are desired above all else.. the unknown is shunned for little reason beyond “I heard it was bad”

Rangers and Necros are far from useless, just harder to get great performance from really.. good players on these professions do great things.

I have played the scenario a few times now.. it’s really not that bad, use what stability is available to you.. dodge when they go for knockdowns.. interupt when they go for knockdowns.. I haven’t had any issues at all really, did it with a necro first and my alt ranger and thief soon after.

While I expect this post to get moved to the WvW section, i’m putting it here so hopefully players who don’t even play WvW can see it.

If Anet expect the upcoming ‘WvW’ patch to bring back older players and keep them.. then the increasing problem of lag/delay in WvW needs addressing fast, While the issue has been ever present over this games short lifespan.. the frequency that you run into this problem in WvW today is quite unbelievable.

It’s a server side issue without a doubt, the chat doesn’t lag.. infact it becomes quite active when the lag/delay is full on, it’s full of people complaining or asking others about lag.

Any large scale fight over a tower/garrison or bigger is getting messed up because of this.. 3 hours ago while fighting at garrison my skills wouldn’t fire for a good minute or above, the sole reason the fight lasted so long was because both sides were so lagged that we couldn’t hit each other properly with spells/damage.. it’s pretty bad.

I want this game to be successful, and to keep the returning players who come back every month to check out new patch content.. the lag has got to go, it was much more managable a few months ago.. barely noticeable at times in huge battles, now it is every single large engagement.

I’d love to know what is causing the rise in skill delay… the wvw update is going to be for nothing if it remains as bad as it is, playing in t1 in eu.. any fight around garrision is just a nice 30 second delay to any skills used, it is a joke.

While I applaud Anet for responding to the playerbase and fixing this up for smaller guilds.. it still irks me that such a huge gap was left in the original design for guild missions, money/time/effort was spent fixing a problem that really should never have occured in the first place.

Either way, it’s great to see.

confusion is kinda strange since in pve and spvp.. it’s fairly easy to play around it, in wvw though.. the damage on players can be very high, 4/5 stacks from a condition built prof.. it will cut you deep .. more then that and you are in serious trouble :P

No idea why they balance it this way tbh.. wvw should follow the same ruleset as spvp imo.

The longer this thread goes on the more mad people seem to be getting.. you are having a laugh if you didn’t think this was a change coming sooner rather then later in some form :P

Players railed against Anet for introducing a gear grind.. and here we see players just doing it to themselves for the sake of it, plenty of people on my server (desolation eu) pretty much farm these bosses all day long.. they time them and camp them till they spawn.

It’s completely correct for them to try to fix this kind of playstyle.. anything else is just wrong tbh.

How about exp transferred to alt?

For me, the most fun i’ve had with this game since it was released was the leveling process.. I have three 80’s.. and 4 other alts ranging from 15 to 55 and the only crafting skill I maxed was leatherworking.. on my very first character, barely touched any crafts since (because it’s all rubbish and only for xp) When I login I just pick one and then go find a zone that fits and just roam around.. events/hearts etc.. trying to solo champs at low level.. helping other players in the zones.. joining wvw with the rest of my guild (though I often pick an 80 for that)

The game world is freaking huge.. with a varied number of pve zones to get lost in, if you don’t enjoy leveling the other classes you probably won’t have fun playing them at max level either.. just stick to what you find fun, that is the key :P

One major flaw I see in guild missions goes like this:

Bunch of guild members drifted away from gw2, they see info of new guild focused content coming to the game next patch!

Patch arrives and people come back to the game, names we haven’t seen login suddenly reappear with the wanderlust to go out and fight missions with the guild!

Guild finds out there is a massive wall of influence to even begin tier 1 missions.. people log off/drift off..

Tier 1 should have been accessable to ALL guilds, big or small.. active or inactive.. if the worry was on the rewards then just straighten those out so this tier 1 was giving less then the rest, put the huge wall on tier 2 and 3.

You want to attract people back to the game with new content, at least let people get in on it and play from the get go…

I am in a big active guild so we haven’t really suffered much from any of the above, many friends in other guilds (of different sizes and activity) have really been stung by this.. it makes such little sense to roll out NEW content in this way, you scare off gamers who WANT to come back and play more guild wars.

So you want 20-30 guilds tracking same bounties at the same time, instead of 2 or 3 guilds right now?

Anet did the right thing.

So what if it takes abit longer for smaller guilds to unlock the bounties? You in a rush somewhere? Is your train leaving?

The train has already left! People have already unlocked other missions. I see that you have already boarded ‘the train’. No wonder you don’t want others to be on equal grounds.

I don’t understand your reply, I said that it should have been designed in a way that allowed every single guild access to tier 1, so that players of all kinds be they hardcore/casual/coming back from a break could take part in NEW content, if that meant designing the specific missions differently then so be it (bounty for sure)

New content is a very large draw for returning players, especially since this games model is so free to let people take long breaks and return on even terms with most other gamers.. if the newest content has such a massive wall in the way for these players, they will just leave again.

My comments about being in a larger guild and thus less effected are true, lucky me I am not in the predicament that many others are in.. it’s overall a very poor implementation of new content in my opinion, Anet can and should do better then this.

Improved meta event loot + guesting = issues

They need to just put all these events on completely random timers.

The players have made this a problem with the current working, because timers are easily accessable and so people feel that they can waltz into a zone just as one of these events are beginning… multiply that by 100 + players and sure, you will create overflow servers.. just as it’s intended to work.

Picked up the medium vigil chest piece for my alt ranger, this is what it looks like when I move or attack anything.. it’s hard to show from a screenshot but the textures on that one side of the armour freak out, expand.. distort and disappear randomly.

One of our guild leaders was banned earlier tonight, we had just done our guild ‘farm’ (running around orr collecting everything.. sending it to the banker to sell to fund our wvw for the week) we made around 240 gold or so.. 100 was sent out in small parts to mulitple commanders to pay for siege, another 100 was sent to pay for a new commander book…. 5 minutes later our guild leader/banker was banned, gg anet :/

I realise it’ll (hopefully) be fixed soon but it’s pretty sad.. it throws a big wrench in our guilds plans for the weekend.

I am glad there are others out there who think like this! I am 30.. been a huge gamer for most of my life.. enjoy games for what they are.

I really like that Anet have a bit of an old school mentality when it comes to the design of this game.. yet it rubs alot of people the wrong way because they are so used to getting everything on a plate.. I still play games like Quake III (Quakelive) on almost a daily basis.. not because it’s the finest game ever made but because it is really fun to play… as far as MMO’s go GW2 suits what I want out of these kinds of games more then pretty much anything else out there right now.

Who are the Daily Achievements intended for?

Todays missions:

-Daily kill variety (check)
-Daily aquatic slayer (check)
-Daily gatherer (check)
-Personal story completer – I don’t play the storyline…
-Daily healer (check)
-Mystic forgesmith – Dont have the items for mystic forge
-Keg brawl stealer – I don’t play the mini games
-Group event completion – Searched for an hour, could not find one active with enough players around
-Daily myst invasion – no clue where this happens

The list does not favor the causual player. We need a larger list or at least 5 choices out of the old daily event list…

Come on really? Keg Brawl.. 10 minutes, I still play this whenever i’m around Hoelbrak :P

Mystic Forge, dyes cost coppers.. throw them in there.. you can use all kinds of low level items in here.. you have access to the /wiki command to even tell you what to use..

I think you are missing the point of what Anet are trying to do.. either that or remembering wow with rose tinted shades.

While that firelands quest line was fun and well delivered (typical blizz!) it didn’t bring the world ‘alive’ at all.. if anything it just annoyed people trying to play together because of phasing (until everyone had done it at least)

Whats going on in this game has a far greater scope to it.. and while you make some great points about the old !Quest! system, which maybe could be used to ease people into the content better… I don’t think Anet are aiming for that at all, they seem happy for people to not know all the details.. or get them to go and look for it.

This has two sides, some people will really enjoy getting stuck into it.. others will hit a website.. find the spawn/event/item/whatever points and go grab it for the sake of doing new content.

The sheer amount of whine on the forum is bad enough.. but whining about this story content? This stuff harks back to the days of ultima online (before renaissance) and MUDS before that, it is an absolute joy to see this sort of delivered story content return in a modern game..

As for it not being ‘exciting’ .. do you really want Dragons every month? It would get stale.

The world they created is amazing.. it makes complete sense to dig a little deeper into the conflicts all these different factions/races have with each other.. make it feel like the world is changing over time, the world we all live in changes all the time too.. time takes it’s course.

People playing these kinds of games these days seem to want action/rewards/action/excitement every 10 minutes.. it’s an MMO for kittens sake.. it’s a slow burning experience.

It’s upcoming in regards to Ascended items through WvW, and it’s well documented on the forum.. if you expected it in this patch today.. then again it’s pretty well documented what was going to be included.

Doing the daily achievement is a way to get access to limited Ascended stuff right now, though of course you probably can’t finish it all inside WvW.

Since it’s so easy to ‘catch up’ in this game compared to other MMO’s after taking a break.. do just that, go play some other games for a while.. WvW has never really felt right to me since the orbs were removed so I left to play other stuff and dropped back into GW2 on and off in the mean time.

Pretty much hadn’t played the game in two and a half months till just last week and my love for the game feels renewed.. as i’ve been playing it pretty much daily since :P

So just before christmas.. I found myself playing less and less.. my guild are primarily a WvW guild on Desolation EU, things felt a little stale and so I went off to enjoy some other games while leaving GW2 on the backburner.

Over the last two weeks i’ve found myself logging back in.. couple of hours every evening or so, playing different characters.. some evenings I might WvW a bit.. others I jump into some sPvP.. and sometimes I just play an alt and roam around the zones just having a bit of fun.

I have found myself really surprised at how much i’ve enjoyed this.. perhaps I was just burnt out before.. I really don’t know

Cheers Anet, this is pretty much the mmo for me.. I can leave whenever I please and come back without being left behind, it’s a great feeling really.

For the past week, at random times while i’m playing friendly members of my guild will show as name [] instead of name [guildname] .. when this happens I cannot type anything at all into guild chat and the guild UI reports I am the only person in the guild, I have no idea what causes it or how to fix it.

All my guild members still show up as yellow name tags, but I can’t talk to them via guild chat when this happens.

Any help would be much appreciated, it’s very.. very annoying.

I go for a look that I like over everything, my 80 necro has a mix of culture pieces.. and some tailored pieces that I could of made at level 20 :P I like how it looks and thats all that matters.

OP’s comments about needing more choice.. I understand where you are coming from especially with medium armour, but really this game has only just started.. 3 months is nothing really, i’m sure we’ll see more stuff soon enough :P

Take the money you have earnt in wvw, play the auction house with said money in the downtimes of wvw… when you are keeping lookout at a tower, waiting for the next dolyak to spawn etc

It’s free profit for whoever takes 5 mins every now and then to do it

Just spit balling ideas here.

Conditions are kinda boring right now, while they play a large role in the game they don’t have the kind of impact i’d personally like.. so here is my idea to spice them up a bit.

Change the effects of conditions based on the type of armour they are applied onto.. for example:

  • Bleed – Decrease the damage done to heavy armour (hard to bleed a guy/gal in a plate suit)
  • Burning – Increase the damage done to heavy armour (imagine cooking inside plate!)
  • Cripple – Reduce the slowing effect on light armour (even when slowed.. people in the lightest gear should move faster)
  • Poison – Give heavy armour some resistance to the damage portion of poison (tough to poison those tin cans)
  • Confusion – Have confusion linger slightly longer on heavier armour and slightly shorter on lightly armoured targets
  • Chilled – Have Chilled linger longer on heavy armour, less so on light

I feel that fear/immobilise/vulnerability/weakness and blind are fairly universal.. if you have any ideas though throw them in the pot.

The thinking behind the above is this: Increase the complexity in combat by having players make gear choices beforehand on how best to protect themselves.. I see medium armour as the happy medium, heavy to decrease the easily stacked bleeds available while suffering from other condi’s more.. and light being able to move more swiftly even when under attack..

Now here is a biggy…

Break up the armour restriction on all professions and allow people to choose how they will suit up themselves, it would open up some more depth in combat and in players gear choices… will you be a lightly armoured guardian? Moving swiftly around the field applying your healing and boons or will you be a heavily armour elementalist wading into the midst of the fight. It would also open up a huge range of cosmetic looks by mixing and matching different armour to balance these effects on conditions.

Now the counter arguement would probably be the age old “but the class silouettes are important!” I don’t think it is important in guild wars 2, in spvp you can identify any class in moments by what they are doing and the effects of there skills… in world vs world it matters even less, heavy armoured people are still going to be line breakers.. the lighter people are still going to hang back.

Like I said at the top of the post.. just spit balling ideas, didn’t put any real numbers on those changes because it’s not my job to balance things :P I even imagine wearing a full set of either light/med/heavy could provide some over arching bonus if it is needed.. anyways, comments appreciated.. this post is probably a bit long by now :P

Might take a couple of days for all of Deso to get back in the swing of things.. I really hope we can though, don’t let the total mess that was last weeks WvW turn you off, get in there and fight :P

Please remember that your exotic has a gem in it as well, by using my ascended backslot I actually lose some of the stats I consider primary in favour of stuff I don’t really want..

I totally think that it should never have had more stats then exotic to start with.. just the infusion slot would have been enough (fighting with the agony debuff on bosses is actually fun past level 10 fractal!)

Keep doing activity A (the thing you are enjoying) until you earn enough gold (you get plenty, plenty of rares/drops to sell.. even t6 mats) and then buy what you need.. everyone wants everything handed to them on a silver plate lol.

it’s the reinforcements part.. that takes WAY to long, the other pieces to the event were pretty cool… the reinforcements is stupid.
