PvE Main – Zar Poisonclaw – Daredevil
WvW Main – Ghost Mistcaller – Herald
Actually…that gives me a better idea Zardul, have them give us a Gambit-like system (see Final Fantasy XII) that Rangers can use that effect the pet. I wouldn’t mind being able to tell my pet to use a specific ability if it’s at a certain spot. Imagine it, being able to make our drakes pull a blast finisher at the push of a button.
Actually, there IS an easy solution…give enemies more toughness. For dungeons, more toughness for bosses and certain mobs and less vitality would give condition builds their chance to shine while keeping the berserker classes from becoming useless.
Mesmer survavibility was insane due to Blured Frenzy + distortion + staff#2 + perma vigor from duelling trait. BF was especially op and deserved that cooldown nerf. I am more concerned with the 1s cooldown for Into the void in PvE. A PvE/PVP split or a shorter cooldown (0.5s) could be nice
are you saying mesmer survivability in pvE was OP?
i hope not…..Yes, that’s more or less what I said. Mesmer have plenty ways of ignoring damage, and can melee almost everything in pve.
you are trolling then….
Definitely trolling. My memser can barely survive as is. :/
I disagree with the blanket nerf to pet damage for Rangers.
I still dislike that there is not enough separation between PvP balance and PvE balance.
I dislike that the idea of balance is to nerf to the lowest rung on the pole rather than picking a baseline of a working build and bringing the rest of the builds up to par.
I agree with this on the whole of what I’m raging at.
This happens after every patch. you think it’s a big deal but it isn’t. i promise. in a week you will realize you can do something different, you will build different, it will work, and you will adapt. done.
By the way this comment goes for EVERYONE and EVERY class.
Except for Ranger. Since they nerfed the pets that heavily, they basically nerfed every Ranger build.
So.. Rangers got shafted? Haven’t rangers been complaining since day one? Who makes these decisions?
I haven’t really logged in since the first day or two of dragon bash so I don’t know whats going on.
They halved the normal damage of our pets by at most 50%. Since our overall damage output relies on the pet for 30-40% of it, you can see what they did…and this is happening to a class that was already not really wanted in dungeons and was kinda subpar in WvW.
thats what the blog is for. read that. they explain why they did what they did already.
So they have a kitten good explanation to why they nerfed pets ACROSS THE BOARD instead of just in sPvP? Because as far as I can tell, there’s no good reason to make pets so useless for Rangers that there’s no point for us to be in dungeons and WvW when we’re gimping our party THAT badly. Plus now our general PvE performance is shot to hell.
Oh how many things this would change if they did that…because at least then we’d have some insight as to ANet’s mindset when doing these patches.
have to spend GIL
Wrong section and wrong MMO.
Ironically, rangers in that MMO weren’t “destroyed”. In that game the rangers were very effective at their role (damage).
From what I know Rangers are the 2nd hardest hitting class in that game still.
Praise be to Arenanet for finally making this and BM Ranger 0 skill builds void.
1. Less people running such a silly build in tournament, literally screwing your teammates so you can win silly 1v1s.
2. Less people crying about mesmer being 0skillnoobclass, because they’re losing 1v1s with their bad 1v1 builds in a tournament setting.
3. More build options, thank you anet, I will totally have a ball with these new traits.
It had to be done and I’m glad that Anet went for such a bold solution(Mesmer here, I for one welcome our new SkillbasedPvP overlords.)
Too bad to do that nerf of the BM, they were stupid enough to nerf ALL RANGER PETS IN ALL FIELDS (PvE, PvP, WvW) instead of just nerfing how much power the Beastmastery Traitline gives the pet. You nerf how much power it gives the pet, you deal with quite a bit of complaining without horribly nerfing the Ranger…but for some stupid reason they chose the nerf the Ranger completely. <_<
The problem here is that this update badly burned our class, and they’re about to lose a bunch of customers over this. I’m personally considering leaving Guild Wars 2 over this, and I have never left a MMO over a nerf before (because none have ever been this bad).
Here is your answer for most in this forum. “Every class but my (insert profession here). It got nerfed into the ground.”
This one is actually really true for the Ranger class, one that nobody can deny. An across the board nerf of our pets normal damage, at the worst being 50% of the damage nerfed. Since pets are 30-40% of a Ranger’s damage output, that’s a 15-20% nerf to a Ranger’s overall damage. No other class this patch can say they got hit that hard, NONE.
Whats the point of trap ranger when necros are so good now.
To give the ranger an actual good build in a sea of complete crap.
Only the Trap Ranger now. Meaning that build is going to get nerfed next month just so they can get rid of our class. <_<
My problem with this patch doesn’t lie with the shortbow…it lies with the fact that they did an across the board nerf of our pets, which are 30-40% of our damage output. The nerf for some of the pets at the worst is a 50% nerf, meaning a 15-20% overall drop in damage output. In every other MMO I played, the developers would never dare nerf one of the professions THIS hard. This is especially bad since it was just to deal with the whining over the BM ranger in sPvP, which could have easily been taken care of by slightly nerfing the amount of power output increase the Beastmastery traitline gives out FOR PVP ONLY!
If they wanted to fix that problem, Atrabelos, they should have just lowered the amount of a boost the Beastmastery traitline gave to the pets. There, you fixed the problem completely, without nerfing the rest of the rangers.
Lithril, the hard part about thieves is all the stealth. You know, the ONE buff that is impossible to counter in this game other than the obvious one which is uncounterable for a reason (invulnerable).
The only way Anet can redeem this ranger nerf is by buffing the damage of the ranger character itself, e.g. By either buffing our auto attack damage or by giving us a half decent power signet. Wishful thinking though of course.
Don’t play a ranger much (only level 40ish) but didn’t rangers get a damage buff to every ranged skill?
If pet damage was a percentage of your original damage, and they buffed your personal damage while they nerfed pets, but pets were also stupid, couldn’t dodge and always died. didn’t you get a damage buff?
Was the damage increase not high enough?
They did not buff every ranged skill. Only the ones for the shortbow. LB only got a projectile increase, and our remaining weapons (save for axe) were left out in the cold. And we have a LOT of weapons.
For Ranger, darkace, we don’t even need to look at the builds to know that. They halved the damage for almost every pet we have, making the only viable build at this point for Ranger the Trap Ranger build. BM has been destroyed, at least in its offensive capabilities.
They need to fix this Ranger nerf fast, and the best way I can think of is to take back the nerfs to the pet, and instead nerf the boost your pets get in the Beastmaster Traitline for SPVP ONLY. There, that fixes the problem people there have with BM rangers, and it doesn’t nerf the rest of us to oblivion. There ANet, I did YOUR JOB FOR YOU on how to fix it.
They nerfed pretty much every pet’s normal attack.
I kept him out because he tanks aggro more than me and most of the party. Besides…condition spec, anything that helps with the conditions is good for me.
Menorah, you need to help me, I’m crying so hard and I’m not sure I’m going to be entering WvW anymore with my main. The nerf to our pets is heavy enough to where my poor devourer may be permanently in its pen. T_T
I like these changes and think overall its in the Rangers best interests.
Good job Anet
I’ll be frank, you don’t know anything if you think we needed this across the board nerf for pets, Jinks. Before the patch, the following is how we were:
General PvE: Good
Dungeons: Average
PvP: Amazing
WvW: Average
Here’s how we look now.
General PvE: Above Average
Dungeons: Below Average
PvP: Good
WvW: Below Average
We needed buffs for Dungeons and WvW, and this across the board patch hit us hard in those two areas we were already just average in.
Holds hand up, my Ranger has quit, not playing him ever again…thinking of quitting GW2 fullstop…
Lost ALL confidence in developers…
Yeah, that was one rough buff to the class.
Or rather: they buffed up weaker builds and lowered down stronger ones – result: more parity and wider diversity of options.
Since when has more options been a bad thing?
They nerfed pets to the point where a Jaguar’s Maul does the same damage as its regular attack, and somebody’s already tested everything. The only thing that does good damage now as a pet is a bird. The pet is 30-40% of our total damage in battle. They nerfed it by 50% without buffing the ranger in return. That’s a 15-20% total damage drop across the board for rangers. That’s a super nerf, and one I THOUGHT ANet was smart enough to avoid.
I feel for you mesmers, because you’ve seen what they’ve done with the Ranger pets. Our pets are now 100% useless across the board, meaning we’ve been nerfed as hard as you guys.
I’ve never been this kitten ed off at an update before. My pets are now 100% worthless. Before they did some good things to make me use them on attack, just to keep up some DPS. But now, I’m not bothering with my pet on attack anymore. I’m just going to run Moas now because there’s no point in the pet’s existence now other than support abilities.
My problem with stealth is that not all attacks can be used against stealthed foes.
For example, warrior can swing widely or d/d ele can use his auto attacks. But a S/F ele (what I play) has very few skills that can hit a stealthed thief, or pressure him out of refuge. The s/d auto attacks don’t work without a target and the aoes are on high c/d or are lamesauce.
I’m sure there are other classes / setups in the same boat.
Oh there are quite a few. Rangers in general have a really hard time with this, due to the fact that pretty much all of our weapons (with the exception of the GS) require a target to be used properly.
Removing blind and poison isn’t that great.
It is when you’re almost exclusively WvW and PvE (meaning dungeons).
Nope. Still will be a trap ranger. Though the 20 points in NM is tempting for the Evasive Purity trait. If ONLY the max level was 90, then I could have a 0/30/30/20/0 build.
Major flaw of stealth isn’t being able to attack while in it, it’s the fact that there is no counter whatsoever to it. Start giving out traits and added effects to AoE that allows a person to throw an enemy out of stealth, and the problem will be solved. For example, make it so that if you have a certain trait on, a Ranger trap can knock an opponent out of stealth. You’ve immediately given stealth a counter and made it easier to deal with somebody who has it. Another example would be making it so that a Warrior can knock them out of stealth with “Fear Me!”
I’m hoping they make it so Eagle Eye effects the shortbow and increases its range to 1200. At least then people who want that range can still spec for it.
We used to see it often from certain members of BP when we fought them for all those weeks. And that one in the picture is almost always doing it.
Renxian, which class ARE you? Some have an easier time than others at killing a thief.
So if the leaked patch notes are real is this going to apply to pve?
I’m thinking they’ll apply it only to PvP, since that’s the only place where pets are being called OP.
The one thing I noticed that still can give us some hope is that they didn’t label whether the changes are blanket, or just for PvP (where the calls for nerfs are taking place). If it’s just PvP, we’re fine. If it’s blanket, then we’re going to need to slap a dev.
There’s one thing about the patch notes that gives me some hope…it didn’t label whether the changes were across the board or PvP only. If the pet nerfs are PvP only, we’re fine, and we can all take a deep breathe of relief. If it’s a blanket nerf, then we really need to cuss out the guys in charge.
Don’t bother buying exotics with gold, you can get pieces either through karma merchants in Orr (these ones seem to be pretty meh on stats) or by running dungeons for the tokens to get the pieces.
They did it so low levels wouldn’t get too horribly pwned in WvW.
Are you wearing full exotic condition damage armor?
They justify it in the fact that while the stats from the armor and weapons are higher at that level, your traits are not that strong, so the lack of boosts and abilities from those even it out. Plus well, at level 40 you’re not likely to have access to all of the skills.
The mistake those commanders made was going to EB where there are a bunch of pugs who don’t follow orders. /joke
To be honest, I think it’s because those troops could be used elsewhere almost immediately, so it’s somewhat making your server lose ground.
Uplevels are actually more powerful than level 80 players themselves in terms of the flat stats from equipment when they’re upleveled
Go a step further Bryzy. Imagine if you’re able to combine it with Flame Trap, Spike Trap, and Viper’s Nest along with it. I think that’d be the closest we’d ever get to true burst damage in a sense. XD
Have ANY of you people read these leaked patch notes? It’s going to possibly be only on the mesmer’s scepter #2 (their counter) and the thief’s Skale Venom.
Path of Scars pull…
:D
So I can go Kholer yes?
This is gonna be funny as hell to mess with.
Makes me think of Firion from Dissidia: Final Fantasy. Path of Scars to Whirling Defense is going to look like Reel Axe to Lance Combo.
I dunno, the last leaked patch notes were correct on multiple fronts.
Hey, I never mentioned dungeons. I was talking WvW and general PvE. I consider dungeons a whole ‘nother ballpark, considering several classes that suck in general PvE are amazing in dungeons. They’re a portal to bizarro world IMO.
And for WvW, it depends on the server. I’ve seen multiple 5+ ranger teams in zergs raining down arrows on a section of the battlefield, massively damaging people in range.
Wait…did you seriously just said Flame Trap is a waste of a utility slot? You’ve just invalidated all your posts with that one.
Flame trap is amazing, firing off concussion and crippling shot simply because there is a fire field in front you is not.
I probably should have used a word other than ‘utility’ to describe SB 2-5.
Ahh, thanks for the correction. The entire post is different when you say SB 2-5 (which I admit are pretty bad).
Zenith, every post I’ve ever seen you make in this subforum has always been negative, so excuse me if I don’t take you seriously.
But here’s the question, will you outright state that you were wrong if this turns out to have helped LB enough to be viable?
