Leaving level gating as bad, removal of vendors, crafting and trait sellers in low level area’s bad, the change removing trait points to 30 or 40? VERY bad for the immersion for higher levels and people who want to help people to rush to 20 to avoid all this idiocy and allow them to start playing are hampered as they cannot just buy a weapons and show how to people just starting…

I see people in our guild getting lvl 80, not even having unlcoked traits with NO ACTUAL CLUE they can unlock traits… They mostly gave up on the story bnbefor the lvl 50 due to the fact it is level gated now and it is no longer fun, not immersive and not rewarding for the mind, also the story line continuity is broken..

We see people spamming the forum they do not know what to do after they are lvl 80 as they just haven’t figured out anything themselves. Yes you actually opened up this game for people who cannot think and removed all fun for those who do.

I like, no love the rest of the game though… It’s a shame people need to survive basic training to be allowed into the fight…

First off, how was the trait change bad for immersion for high level characters? The trait changes could have been handled better for sure and that’s why they’re making changes to it again, but i fail to see how immersion has to do with any of it at all.
If people you know are getting to 80 and not knowing what to do, that’s their own fault not Anet, you get pop-ups explaining almost every single game mechanic throughout your leveling up process, if they’re not reading it that’s their own fault and they would still have the same issue with or without the NPE.
The PS works just fine up until the end of the battle for claw island, the continuity errors all come after that and if they found the story before that point not fun then its just too bad, but then again fun is subjective, while one might find it boring someone else might be having a blast…and again with the ‘not immersive’ remark, i find it much more ‘immersive’ to have my character help out the PS npc’s for a while and then go off to do his own thing before being called by the PS npc’s to help them out again, instead of having them asking me to do stuff as soon as i get out of their sights and not even giving me time to breath…
Also “It’s a shame people need to survive basic training to be allowed into the fight… ", So yea let’s start throwing ppl in warzones without giving them proper training, or we can all become MMA fighters with no basic fighting training at all that sounds smart right? Right?

looooong snip…

There’s so many misinformation in those two posts, dear god, lets go by parts:
trait points- you can get the same amount of traits as you did before (2 full lines and the beggining of another), all they did was make the trait point simpler by removing the excessive amount points you need to go from minor to major traits, used to be 5 now its 1.
hearts some hearts changed yea, but really aside from the little minigame in the asura area nothing to bad, the bunny feeding heart is in the same general area, used to be top of the mountain now its near the bottom of it, the farmer help in queensdale is still the same except that now you entertain cows instead of giving them food, which really changes nothing since youre still pressing f on the cow and thats it…
pvp is not locked it just doesnt show you the icon until you get to a certain level, you can still access it through lions arch, same with wvw or eotm, if your ‘buddies’ got locked out of gaining skill points then that means that they didn’t even play on their ‘beta/launch’-old accounts, and no theyre not screwed out of anything so stop saying that, they just have to go level up enough until its unlocked, you dont even have to deal with the NPE just go do pvp and gain the tomes you so despise so you can level your character on pve while not even doing pve content.
I don’t even know where u got that they added tomes of knowlege or lvl-20 scrolls to make money, you can get those things so easily by just playing the game, and no the lvl-20 scrolls wont make ppl skip lowbie zones anymore than they already could before by crafting their way up to 80, besides just because you can get an alt to a higher level it doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the lowbie areas all the same, gw2 system was made with that in mind after all…. Also i don’t really get your complaints about the mega-server and giving players the option to switch to move populated shard of the map while giving them a small buff? What’s so wrong about that? Do you not want to see people in the same map as you in a MMORPG?
And Last, No, the game has not been out for 3 years; No, they couldn’t just have added gw1 classes into this game, it’s not how it works, the games don’t even work in the same way; and No it’s not just one class, its one class and 9 specializations .

Like i said in my first post, some complains about the NPE are completely valid, but sometimes it feels like ppl just want to complain for the sake of complaining…

I don’t get all the hate. It takes like a week to get level 20 and that’s taking your time and being a completionist. A little patience would have served you and your friend well. It is a great game.

First impressions are developed within the first few hours of playing, telling someone they have to spend a few days to a week (depending on how much time they can dedicate to gaming) before they can unlock game features doesn’t help.

And, honestly, how can anyone tell that GW2 is a great game when they spend the first 23 levels having features locked or hidden from them?

“Game features” have always been locked behind levels. Since launch.

Are you talking about content or features? I certainly don’t remember having to get up to level 17 before I could fully unlock elemental attunments in elementalists, or level 19 for F1-F4 skills for engineers and mesmers, or level 22 for the guardian’s virtue of courage. Definitely don’t remember having skill challenges and diving goggles tell me to come back some other time.

Leveling to unlock skills work just like it does on most other games, which imho is much better than having to kill x amount of mobs with one skill to be able to unlock the next, with every single weapon and attunement/etc, go forbid you made a necro at launch, the shivers from having to unlock death shroud skills above and underwater almost turned me off of the class as a whole…
The NPE has its problems sure but some ppl make it out to seem like its the worst thing to ever happen in history of mmos…

I believe there is something wrong with having different ways of “micromanaging” professions. It can alienate people from playing certain professions purely based on the levels of keyboard and resource management proficiency required to be competent and/or competitive in any area of the game. All professions should be on equal “control” footing and equally manageable. Choosing what profession(s) to play should be about personal preference (preferred role(s) and aesthetics), not based on “easy or hard to manage”. These imposed “difficulty levels” are an unnecessary gate to playing certain professions and are particularly detrimental for end game.

Let me spin that “lots of choice is good” statement. Look at the spvp meta and tell me that there are lots of choices there. Tell me there are a plethora of viable “high end” team compositions, weapons, utilities, traits… On the flip side, in owpve and wvw players can run around in a zerg while auto attacking and aoeing their way to victory with a bit more forgiving build options, but that has a limited enjoyment lifespan for some. Also, the zerg and stack game hides many of the core profession and combat issues that I mentioned in my original post.

Overall, the main problems are that the higher you go in any area of the game, there are less and less optimal build choices and flexibility. These problems are made worse by the profession “difficult level” designs. Colin mentioned wanting all the skills to be meaningful to use, so by extension that means all professions will need work and “things” need to be better balanced. When the devs have to account for all these different profession mechanics and such, it makes balancing and progression much more difficult. Also, the devs want to build better and more meaningful game content, and that starts with fixing/working on the flawed profession and combat foundations.

Think about this… NPE was designed so the game would be more user friendly because things were “too confusing for new players”. At the moment, all professions are not equally user friendly and can be “too confusing for new players”.

You can believe anything you want but on a high competitive level the difficulty to learn a profession is irrelevant.
And when it comes to NPE not all professions have to be equally user friendly, hell if every class was the same it would just be boring, most ppl need new mechanics and ways to play to keep themselves interested, if playing a thief and an ele was basically the same cooldown managing mechanic then what incentive would i have to play it?“oh you can hazz fireeeeee and water and air and earthss” someone might say but that will just be the same thing i was already doing with different effects.
So no i do not think every class have to use the same resource managing mechanics or be equally user friendly, every class should be whatever they need to be so that it is engaging and interesting enough for someone that rolled x class to want to roll z class, if they so choose to, and not have to feel like it’s all the same but with different graphic effects.

We are getting GvG with HoT as guilds will be able to “queue” as guilds and not as a team of individuals in PVP. I expect GvG to allow for far easier matchmaking as it won’t have to do complex math on the individual player’s ratings to pick a suitable opponent, it will be just one number.

Guild Teams

Guilds can register guild teams to compete within sPvP, in both Conquest and Stronghold maps.
Leaderboard will show the best guild teams in the world.

So in a way we will get a similar GvG system as it was in the first game. Easier matchmaking, faster queues, more “personal” battles as guilds will develop rivalries in battles etc

It’s a step to the right direction AND actual GvG

It’s not GvG, it’s guild lader.

It’s Guilds against Guilds, therefore it is GvG, whether it’s the GvG version you wanted or not is irrelevant.

Harpoon gun simply doesn’t work without water. That is all there is to that. And while I don’t see why spear and trident couldn’t be used on land in the most basic of manners, they would need brand new skills. If you are doing that, why not just bring in brand new weapon types?

Possibly as a gun skin? They might need a different animation to make them really work but it’s not impossible.

However the spears and tridents could be easily adapted to a staff skin.

Staves already ‘share’ some skins with tridents just like rifles ‘shares’ with spearguns, and to the OP about the idea of using spearguns out of water, yea you can but there’s no resistance, like when you’re in water, so the recoil will slap you silly in the face everytime you try to shoot it.
Maybe if we ever get to play as largos or fight against the deep sea dragon they’ll expand upon the underwater combat, but i don’t see that happening any time soon.

The mesmer one is most disappointing so far. Engi, Necro, Ranger get a weapon with at least 5 skills.

Mesmer gets an offhand with 2 skills.

Lame.

Think about it though. It’s a whole new spec! It’s not just 2 offhand skills it’s probably completely different!

“Specialization: Mesmer tank – your flashy statstick offhand AOE’s make it so you die in 3 hits, instead of 2. however your damage output is reduced by 500%

You’re welcome!
-Anet"

the more i think on it, the more worried i get about the whole mastery/spec system, it feels like it’s going to shoehorn various classes into very specific builds, rather than let us expand on existing ones.

Also, the classes that are getting 2h 5-skill weapons? they’re getting specs too, or did you forget that already?

You’re not required to use your specialization if you do not like it, it’s just a new way to play your character which btw is expanding on existing ways. You’ll most likely be able to still use your beloved pistol off-hand for your mad dmgzzzz output if you specialize or just don’t specialize at all it won’t matter.
At this point you’re just complaining because you’re not getting what you want, so just deal with it and wait for more info on the kitten system to come out so you know the full scope of it before bashing mindlessly on it like a spoiled kid who didn’t get their favorite candy when they wanted it.

Soooo, expecting them to put a large amount of effort into a paid-for expansion is bad? Especially when it’s the first one and it hardly lives up to the GW1 ones? (Y’know, how some added 2 fully fledged classes with skills and everything?)

I suppose, in the end, Since Day one complaints are -still here- Day one balance issues are -still here- and expecting them to fix any of them is a fool’s errand, that i shouldn’t be suprised.

Maybe they’ll suprise us in the end as info comes out…..But with all the annoying F2P Focused changes that add massive grind to a game they used to say “Won’t make you grind to have fun” i won’t hold my breath.

They are putting effort in the xpac, what you were asking was for them to become inhuman and basically add a whole new freaking game combat-wise, and that takes too much time and resources, y’know, things that they might just not have right now.
There’s was one xpac in gw1 which was eye of the north, nightfall and factions were both campaigns that did not need the base game to run, so with that clarified eotn did not add any new class and HoT will be adding a whole new class with 9 specializations, and no one knows the full scope of every feature being added with the xpac yet so saying it doesn’t live up to some other xpac is just baseless assumption.
The only complaints and balance issues that are still here from day one relate mostly to wvw, tho they did make changes to try things out over there, none seemed to do much aside from the ppk which they hopefully will bring back.
I would love to hear about this massive grind to have fun that you talk about, because i have yet to grind for anything to be able to have fun. But y’know, ppl have different opinions and all…

If they wanted to added every weapon to every class it would take a long time to develop every skill, animate it and make it not be stupidly overpowered and invalidate the sets that are currently available to each profession.
Adding one weapon per class with added utilities and elites in the form of specializations makes them able to work on it and as times goes by add more as more specializations come out.
Yes it would be cool to have everything now but that’s just not realistically possible if we want the xpac to come out anytime soon.

Samhaim.8956

I know this is a bit of a stretch that most likely wont happen BUT i think it would be cool for certain proffessions like the warrior, to be able to dual wield GS’s which would eliminate a need for having a second set of weapons to swap out to, it could easily be implemented as a mastery. Plus i think due to all the nerfs warriors have been getting, it would be a nice compensation from anet.

NOOOOO
Greatswords should never be dual wielded. Ever. It completely defeats the purpose of greatswords being two handed weapons. We already have the ability to dual wield swords. We don’t need the ability to dual wield giant swords.

Again its a mastery that you WOULDNT have to take if you dont want to, no one is forcing you to do it. Not sure how familiar you are with this game but other proffesions that can dual wield. And most warriors would agree that dual wielding GS’s would just look completely awesome, it could be specifically locked into the warrior mastery skill line.

I don’t think his complaint had anything to do with him wanting to dual wield GS or not, its more of the fact that it makes absolute no sense, no one should be able to swing two giant swords with enough precision and strength to cut through things. Many professions can dual wield, yes, but they can’t dual wield Two-Handed Weapons. Idk how ‘most warriors’ would feel about dual wielding gs, but in my case i just think it would look stupid.

Anet announced Heart of Thorns as the Season 3 free living story instead of calling it an expansion and said every thing the exact same about all its features and details in the interviews?

Would people be just as hyped or more meh? Judging by the attitude and mentality of some people I would think it would lean towards the meh side all because of a price tag. Is that not insanity?

i’d be even more hyped since i wouldn’t have to pay for it, since at least to me it seems like it’ll give me a lot to do with my characters and it will give me reasons to try out other classes, plus depending on what kind of challenging group content they’ll add it could give me the same exciting feeling i got while doing dungeons for the first time and when they released the molten/aetherblade instances, sadly that’s no the case and they need to make money somehow since they can’t just keep on pumping out content for free and live off of whatever they make from gem sales.

ok, so when you BUY a movie do you see it as a good thing to BUY another movie just because the last 30 minutes are on a different disk?
ofcouse not, when you buy a movie you want the whole movie, not 2/3 the movie, that’s what the LS is right now and that’s a valid argument.

there is no free stuff entitlement, it’s asking to complete the story (movie) before moving on.
oh and the LS isn’t free entirely, you have to pay for it when you missed it the 2 weeks it came out.

LS was concluded, all of it was leading up to the pact airship attack to mordremoth, the attack happened and it failed, that was the conclusion, what happens beyong this point is a follow-up, use movies such a LoTR and Star Wars as examples.

Actually we are only getting 1 spvp map with that 1 spvp mode. The devs said so. They also said if stronghold was successful they would add more.

Its not about entitlement. It is definitely not bullcrap. These features that should have been at release are features that many MMO games have at release! INCLUDING GW1 Anet doesn’t have to say whether or not they would have them because us gamers expected to have guild halls in guild wars 2 as they did in GW1. I mean why back peddle?

Many MMO’s have them at launch, and many don’t, one that i can think of at the top of my head is Tera. Just because a feature was present in gw it doesn’t mean it should be present at launch on gw2, it’s a whole different game with a different main story focus and goal that shares the same lore. When ppl say it should’ve been here from launch it’s like they’re not taking into consideration the amount of work put into adding it now, it’s not like they can just copy and paste things from gw into gw2, if it was any other MMO adding it and marketing as a xpac feature i doubt ppl would be so condescending about it, so just take a step back and stop with the “it should’ve been here at launch”, it wasn’t, get over it and just enjoy that they’re adding something you like to the game after all it is something new and we don’t even know what we’ll be able to do in them yet, as i’m pretty sure they won’t serve the same purposes the served in gw.
Also i would like to see where exactly is it that you’re seeing that we’ll get only 1 pvp map, because from all the interviews i’ve read so far i have seen nothing of sorts

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Samhaim.8956

There is no arguments being thrown at my end ? You’re the one that eems to not be taking logic into the consideration.

PLus, what if a player doesnt like the current weapons’s set ? What if a player doesnt like maces ? Swords ? Bows ? What if he wants his character to use a specific weapon ?
He is FORCED to have on an MMo to have his character use a certain weapon just because it “offers what he needs” ?

Sorry, the argument of “There’s already things that do that, and the class doesnt need more of it” its not logical. At all. Its an MMO, diversity makes it, the option to use whatever you want makes it. Not being forced to stick with something just because it gives what you needs.

You talk as if every class in every MMO is able to use all kinds of weapon that ever existed. Most MMO’s tie your weapon to your class, and the class options aren’t even that big to begin with, and you end up with 8~10 class/weapon choices, but here you have most weapons available independent of your class.
Demanding new weapons to be added by saying that they should have been on the game since the beginning is silly and a kittenildish, new weapons could be cool, yes, but the amount of weapons available to every class, with the exception of engineers, makes it so that you already have a lot of options.

Making us players originally from that server cannot take advantage of the server’s organized runs.

I expect BG Sparkfly Fen to be like this whole weekend long, sigh.

They do prioritize you during queue, so unless you expect them to kick guests from the main server to make room for ppl that log in late, there’s nothing to be done about it.

Also everyone that wants to implement something like that should take into consideration that people could just fully transfer to that server, so how would you fix that? And how would you fix it making lower pop servers ghost towns?

P/P and S/P for main zerg, P/P will be close enough for ranged zergs and S/P is prob the best meele option, its how i’ve been doing this since it was released and i’ve had no problem.

Regarding traits, you can go 30 into Crit line for executioner, or you can go for survivability traits, i personaly went for 0/0/20/30/20 with faster recharge on deceptions and cond removal on stealth, 2 ini every 10 sec and heal on ini points used and ricochet for pistols. Using Refugee, Dagger Storm and Signets of Malice, Assassin and Infiltrators, using refugee whenever its avaliable in the middle of the zerg helps keeping ppl up.

Yes, that was the thread I’ve been talking about. Maybe you should re-read it as well? Nowhere does he say it was intended.

That entire thread is about how the eagle shortcut is not intended. The dev responded because it would not be very justice-y. Someone then brought up that the wurm has a strong sense of indigestion. which the dev agreed. Based on what the thread was about, you could assume that the it wasn’t intended since the wurm has a strong sense of indigestion that was supposed to prevent you similar to the justice with the eagle.

There was no direct response from the dev, yes. That does not mean it was an admission that it’s intended. I don’t see why they would allow one shortcut and not the other.

The devs answer was pretty clear, he was asked if the worm had no sense of “justice” which was what prevented the player from using the eagle and he agreed. It’s just a matter of putting 2+2 together.
Besides having the worm work makes the players think the eagle should too, leading to them trying to use it and getting trolled, if the worm was disabled by traps most ppl wouldn’t try to use the eagle and it would make the trolling expected.

As for you saying the worm and the eagle work differently, they don’t. Both transport you from the regular route into a special place, that at the end drops you off at a different location that you previously were, the only difference is that you actually walk from place A to B inside the worm and the eagle is time-based, but both have the same “loading screen” at the beggining and the end which leads to believe that they could’ve simply made the worm drop you off at the beggining, like the eagle, if that was their intention.

Unless they did not intend for you to get past the traps. This isn’t the first time people have found away around obstacles that were supposed to stop players.

Going by your logic, if they didn’t intend players to take the W2Z2 shortcut then they would’ve put up spike traps so you couldn’t get to it. However they did not put up traps and instead let you complete it which then ports you to the beginning after. They let you go through thinking you could take the shortcut and got “punished” for doing so. There’s no reason to think that they did not tempt you with the wurm shortcut and have it impassable near the end.

Only the devs know whether it was intended or not. They have not directly stated either direction. However, in the same thread about the eagle shortcut, it did appear that the dev seemed to be hinting that the wurm one was not intended to be doable.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/livingworld/sab-bts/Shortcut-eagle-TM-bugged
Read through both of his answers again, if after doign that u still can’t see that the shortcut worm was intended to be doable then idk what else they could say to change your mind.

So... about this Soldier Inscription

Just buy one from the TP, you’ll probably use less money doing that.

Why exactly is soldiers special like that when you could just buy the recipes for stuff like valkyrie or berserker?

There are only so many T6 mats and each one of them is related to only one stat combo, would be cool to be able to mix them up to able to get all the other stat combos that are missing from crafting though.

Tequatl will take as long as a temple event with the addition of having the best rewards in the game, i fail to see how that won’t be enough to bring everyone there when its up.

Temple events only take 5mins each and that is only cause of timers what are you complaining about they already made it so you don’t need to do gates of arah to get in. Come to maguuma we do all world bosses in 2 hours every single day. We also want more people for wvw we are 7th and rising and that is only because we have no daytime players. If it was an easy event rewards from it would quickly become worthless and no one would do also. To kittenly an army can do which is what you expect from a fricking dragon.

hard is aparently a curse word

What? o-o
I wasn’t complaining about anything, all i said was that Tequatl would be comparable to temple events time-wise and would give even better rewards which should be enough to get ppl there to do it. And i’m not wrong about that, because just like temple events Tequatl will have periods where you wont be attacking the boss itself but making sure other objectives get done(in this case protecting the batteries for the cannon) which will roughly take ~6min(~2min every 25% of his hp) away from the fight itself.

Anyways, i think the changes to Tequatl are very welcome and i can’t wait to see the unique skins that will come from it.

So, raids?..

In Guild Wars 2, the monsters raid you.

Also, check out Guild Missions

Ah. Guild Missions. The once-a-week guild-only zerg that takes scant minutes and only a cursory knowledge of the ‘boss’. Don’t forget you’ve gotta be in a guild to get any credit worth your while. Because the pittance you get when you’re not in that guild is kinda an insult.

The only guild missions that can be zerged are Bounties, and even then if you don’t know the boss mechanics you’ll have a bad a time. Guild Challenges and Puzzles are both challenging and fun if you like do things in group, especially if you dont go running online to look for a guide to will simplify it.

Here’s what will really happen.

As the other spawning mobs drop nothing, no one will bother with that bit of content- you will see the same as what happens now, a lot of people standing around while a few do the pre events.

Then when the dragon spawns 100 people suddenly appear at the spawn point as people log in to their toon that is parked at the spawn spot.

There is no pre-event for Tequalt, it’ll be announced the same way clockwork invasions were, so everyone will have the same chance to get there.

If the final 25% is where the rewards are at, that’s when these toons will start helping.

Unless it’s all over in less than 15 minutes and the rewards are quite amazing, after a few goes the champ train farmers will just not bother and go back to champ farming. Then the spawn will be like karka queen which rarely if ever gets done as it’s ‘too hard’, for which read ‘I can no longer press my auto attack button’.

You get rewarded for every 25% down you get him aside from the daily bonus chest apparently, also the event wont take more than 15minutes as it has a 15minutes timer itself, if ppl dont help from the start they will get no reward because it will likely not even reach 75% health without cooperation

Tequatl and conditions...

Probably not the solution people want to hear.

But maybe Anet can consider splitting Teq into multiple targets, with each target being treated as a separate mob. Decreasing the health of any of these targets decrease the overall health of teq as a whole.

So if the new Teq still has Head, Left Claw, Right Claw, that would be 3 targets, essentially raising the cap to 75.

It’s a workaround but that’s all I got.

This creates a problem, where ppl could potentially kill it 3x faster by mobbing, Like its been said here already Condi builds are not meant to be taking bosses head on, but taking care of big mobs.

You can get Ascended Weapons from anything that drops ascended mats..

If you’re not gonna bother leveling craft enough to refined the account bound mats, then i see no reason why youre complaining about having to destroy them, you wont be using them either way.
If you don’t like crafting as a mean to get ascended equipment, thats too bad cause the armors will go the same way (you can already see the mats for it in the collectibles tab). I for one think the way it was added was great, it gives ppl crafting a bigger meaning and you can get the mats for it by simple playing the game, and even if u get it at a slow pace you’ll still be getting it.

The “next round of ascended” may as well be the introduction of ascended weapons, and in that case they didn’t break any promises, all you gotta do is look for Occam items to see that they have Carrion stats.

To those there are complaining about Ascended Weapons saying that you can’t get them through WvW, last time i checked there were crafting stations on WvW as well as gathering nodes and item drops that you can salvage for mats, on top of that you can get all of the ascended mats through WvW, and if you’re lucky you might just get the weapon from the same place.
So saying you can’t get them through WvW is nothing but misinformation.
