Okay, you had your little rant against what you seem to see as unjustified criticisms, how about actually trying to explain WHY this apparently arbitrary and player-hostile limitation is actually based on TECHNICAL reasons when no other game I play (or I expect most others play) has anything like this alleged design flaw.
Other games you play don’t have trading posts, they have simplistic auction houses that allow inflation to ruin the game’s economy.
Because this game has a robust economy, it requires a significantly more complex trading system, which by it’s very nature is going to be subject to more technical limitations as a result of trying to do a lot more.
Not to mention most games with AH still have listing limitations.
This isn’t a new business model, this was announced back when HoT pre-purchase started so i’m having a hard time understanding why you would only bring this up now??
The play-for-free announcement changed absolutely nothing regarding their stance towards the expansion pricing and how they think they’ll handle it in future, as of right now.
Yes, newer players only need to pay the latest expansion price to gain access to ‘core game’ and what the expansion will bring in the future, but they are not getting the same content that you has experienced over time.
They don’t however get access to all LS for free, or all of the temporary content with its respective rewards, or the achievement points, but most importantly they don’t get access to a whole community experiencing all of that content when it was first released.
Gw2 is a MMO and not a single player game, therefore you can’t ever say that someone new to the game will get access to the same thing you did, because they simply won’t.
Have you seen how the blindfolds look on asuras? The way it ties and goes over their head is just soooooo bad :/
+1 for better blindfolds on all races pls anet
I’d just like to add that the one thing i feel is missing from the day cycle is that there are no events for those who are not following the event chain, so maybe adding some small repeatable events from time to time for the people that aren’t following the zerg or for those who got on the map late might be a good idea.
Sorry to break to you but Trait Lines were supposed to be picked for the Traits not the stats in them, if you want different stats get different gear, legendary weapons alone should give you the stat freedom you want.
Is this actually working? i have yet to see chill stacking at all…
Also what’s up with necro’s trident #5 skill “Frozen Abyss” it says in the tooltip that it gives 7 stacks of chill but the cap is just 5 and right now it’s only giving 1???
I don’t believe your suggestions are practical for all game modes, in pvp for instance this solution would make gameplay very confusing when you can’t see what’s damaging you or your teammate or what the enemy is attacking.
One thing that they could add would maybe be an option to change the instance of the map you’re on if you block someone and from that point forward have the megaserver system try to place you in different instances as the person blocked.
I completely agree. It’s an illusion of choice. The traits are mostly dictated by the weapon you choose and not by your preferred playstyle as it should have been.
The weapon you choose is part of your preferred playstyle and you are not forced in any way to pick the traits related to it. My hybrid warrior for instance only has the dual shot augment that add’s burning to the auto attack, and i can switch to empower allies at any moment depending on how i want to play it.
1. the teq buff is completely fine, ppl just need to get over the fact that entering the first burn phase with 7 or less minutes left on the clock does not mean it will fail, so less qq’ing and more killing.
2. guardian symbol is op, yes, but you can still create your own group and do whatever the hell you want with it, its not like everyone in the game is playing symbolic avenger guardians right now
No matter how much they test it, bugs are bound to exist once a build hits the live servers, the only way to minimize it would be to have a test server, which they already replied they are unable to do at the moment.
Since OP mentioned F2P games i’d just like to bring up a couple of the ones i know of that added a slot to the account of active players when a new class was made available, like Tera and Maplestory, the business model is wildly different but since you brought it up that F2P games don’t add new slots.
Also you seem to miss the point on why a new character slot is important in this situation, even tho we were given only 5 slots for 8 classes with the initial game purchase, we could still try out every single class, before deciding which class to invest your time into, via heart of the mists, the same however is not true for the revenant If you have already used all 5 slots given to you from the base game, and well why wouldn’t you have used them? we had 8 different classes to pick and before this expac was announced we had no concrete info or even a hint that a new class would be made available and that we would need one of the slots given to us when we first bought the game to be able to even try it out and see if we actually want to play it or not.
You are wrong, because you assume that HoT is something you must have. You don’t. 10 Dollar value for core GW2 is massively good value.
Not everybody is going to be interested in paying 50 dollars for GW2 + HoT. You get hundreds – thousands hours of gameplay in core GW2, so stop making it sound like its an apple to apple comparisons. The milk example was related to how outragous it is to expect to be compensated just for being a consumer. You are a consumer, nothing more, nothing less. You’re not entitled to retention based rewards. It makes no sense at all to expect that.
And again – WoW, EQ, HGL, TERA, Aion – The list of people who have bought games shortly before it went F2P is long. They lost out on a deal which essentially made the game free, but thats the way the market works.
And getting GW2 for 10 dollars is a massive steal compared to the people before that sale who paid 40 dollars. What about them?`You see, the entitlement goes around in circles like that if everybody keeps pointing fingers with jealousy and envy over who got the better deal. Someone will always get a better deal than you, and thinking that someone else gets something, is somehow your loss is crazy.GW2 provides a free service. An optional service. And its being compared to monetary subscription games. The kitten is up with this irrationality?
What exactly did i assume? can you show me exactly the phrase in my post in which i am assuming anything? My whole post had nothing about the core game price or anything else you posted so i’m a bit confused but either way i’ll humor you and show a few points in your argument that are flawed.
- 1 – Your list of MMO’s that went f2p is great and all, but as far as i know most mmos that do go f2p offer some sort of perks for already paying customers so that the money that they’re currently spending on the game is not completely invalidated;
- 2 – Anyone who paid $40 for gw2 and then saw a sale come up right could try for a refund, that how it has always worked and how it works right now, people that recently bought gw2 can try to get a discount on HoT through that;
- 3 – Gw2 provides no free service, never have, never will, and most of the people throwing comparisons involving Gw2 are doing so by pulling GW own history with expansions/standalone.

When people have been given three years of nothing but FREE updates and content and turn around and claim that they are OWED for their ‘loyalty’ when a product update is launched and costs money…I think the word (in the negative connotation) ‘entitlement’ is entirely deserved.
You are aware a lot of those people paid more in gem items, per month, than a subscription fee, aren’t you? Heck in some cases, some of our peers paid more, per month in gem store items, than the cost of buying the game.
How are they ‘entitled’ given your scenario?
First of all this is a flat out lie. GW2 isn’t even on the top 10 of games that made a profit from micro transactions ( http://www.polygon.com/2014/7/20/5920815/list-of-mmos-by-revenue-warcraft-old-republic )
And even if it was true, buying gems is completely unnecessary and optional. Because you chose to buy a unnecessary luxury, it does not mean you deserve anything. You paid for a thing, got a thing, that’s it. You are not awarded for your “loyalty” when you go buy milk at the grocery store are you? You knew what the deal was. Stop trying to martyr yourself. It’s embarrassing.
And stop with the lies too. Please. For the love of god.
Are new customers reward with 2 milk bottles when they go to the grocery store? because if so i think i might have been missing out on good stuff…
So stop with nonsensical analogies alright?
If they can give new customers a incentive to try out their game, why cant they do the same for old customers? Or if it was their plan all along to not give us a character slot, why not be open about it on the discussion thread that was made about that same subject instead of being evasive, it would at least give players a heads up and not making them hopeful?
No, you are not.
You are entitled to the ability to roll a Revenent into any character slots you may have available, just as you were able to roll any of the original eight classes into any slot you had available. You are NOT entitled to a free slot to put that character into, unless ANet says that you are.
I would love for you to provide one single quote in which anyone from anet says what you are saying, because the fact of it is that they refused to give a straight answer on the thread that was created about the very subject of HoT having a character slot included or not and are marking the new profession as a core feature of the expansion.
Yes, we could roll eight classes at release but only had 5 slots, those 5 slots however at least gave you the chance to try out every class you wanted before making a choice, all you had to do is create a character and head to spvp. The situation is not the same with HoT because you cannot roll the new profession, which is a core feature, to try it out and decide whether you want to play it or not if you made use of the 5 slots given to you when you first bought the game.
Anet is not a charity and i’m not rich, however if they’re that desperate for money that they need to try to squeeze out those extra $10 from veteran players that want to play the revenant then maybe they shouldn’t be giving away the base game for free at all should they?
Just curious, but you do realize that the max character slots for an account is 64, not 8.
Most of his argument still stands tho, and just as a last reply to your post, you’re ok with content you paid for being put behind a paywall and i am not, at least not in the current way of how they are offering their expansion, because i’m being forced to pay extra since i already have my 5 slots filled with characters in which i invested time and money into and that i will not delete.
I know it is pointless as you seem to think that you are absolutely correct with your nonsensical argument, but I would imagine there is a very valid reason why people are ‘missing your point’.
Must be because you have selective reading as you seem to skip everything that i and others write that explains the point across and never gives a reply to it.
So if you’re not gonna reply to the part of the posts that perfectly explains the situation and be a prick about it, its better to just not reply to it at all don’t you think?
That very same argument could be made for the original game. They put 3 characters (challenging content as I haven’t played those classes)that you did not have behind an 800 gem paywall for each one.
“How would you guys felt if they took whatever they have as “challenging content” and put behind a 800 gems paywall? Would you still feel fine over it?"
I have already been there and done that for 3 of my characters……so no, I have no problem with them doing that for the revenant.
Sure, it would have been a neat bonus for the core expansion, but I am most certainly not going to get my panties all in a wad over it.
You need to come up with a better argument that actually makes sense, and then drop the condescending attitude when people disagree with it.
No, the same argument cannot be made for the base game, and you still haven’t understood my point, you were given 5 slots, but you could effectively try out every single class in the game before making any substantial investment in said character. can you do that with the revenant? no you cannot.
Had they released 2 new classes with the expac, would i be asking for 2 char slot? NO. Because i can try out both classes with 1 slot and pick which one i like best. I Cannot do that without a character slot without deleting progress or paying more money, Got It?
Its hard not to be condescending when people are seriously suggesting character deletion as a valid argument and completely missing the point i’ve been making for a while now.
edit: +1 to what DeceiverX said.
(edited by Samhaim.8956)
Will you guys ever understand that the base game giving 5 slots for 8 classes has nothing to do with the revenant problem? Pick and Play from 8 available classes and Play as the revenant are different things. Got It? No?
Here i’ll put it as simple as i can:
You buy the core game, you get your 5 slots , as time goes by you eventually fills out the 5 slots with your favorite characters, you deck them out with gem store hairstyles and colors, different equipments and such.
Then a new class gets added on a expansion, and the only way for you to play that content is to delete one your characters, in which you have time and most likely real money invested into or pay up extra money to unlock an additional slot, even though you have already payed for the expansion itself.
How would you guys felt if they took whatever they have as “challenging content” and put behind a 800 gems paywall? Would you still feel fine over it?
I give up, as long as you think deleting a character in which u may have spent time and/or money as an acceptable option there is nothing i can say that will make you understand what is so stupidly wrong about marketing a expansion with a new class and not making it fully available to all of your customers.
Sure, but the same is true of buying the base GW2, as there were eight classes but only five character slots. you couldn’t play them all without either buying additional slots or deleting characters.
If you want to make a Revenant without paying another dime, then buy the slot with gold or delete a character. If you want to play the Revenant without deleting a character, then buy an additional character slot. That is the deal, they don’t owe you anything better than that, all they owe is what they offered, that you have the OPTION of filling any empty character slots you may have with Revenants.
You realize that’s the same thing, right? “I’m not saying they have to give me something for free, I’m just saying they should give it to me, and I shouldn’t have to pay for it.”
It actually isn’t the same, the base game was never sold on the premise of playing 8 different classes, only that it had 8 different classes to pick from.
The Revenant is being market as a core part of HoT for which we must either delete a character, which is honestly one of the most stupid suggestions i’ve heard in a while (yea let’s forget about all the time and money you spent on it, it clearly doesn’t matter at all), or pay $10 more, effectively making the expansion value to be $60 and that’s just overpriced.
It’s a clear cash grab that threats us customers as nothing more then money bags, so why the kitten should we not question what we are getting for the money we are being asked to spend?
You already have the core game available. Thus you are not losing out on anything because the inclusion of the core game was never aimed at you in the first place. Rather, it’s just misplaced outrage from current players who have a false concept about how because the core game is being bundled (mainly because it’s NOT being offered separately anymore) with the expac, they’re somehow owed something beyond the expac. Despite the fact they’ve been playing the core game for up to 3 years.
Like Manasa said, i paid for the core game 3 years ago, my purchase of HoT right now has nothing to do with it, aside from the fact that i’m unable to make full use of their promotion because i’m already a paying customer. And if i’m unable to make use of said promotion then that option becomes extremely unattractive because i get nothing, zilch, nada, zero, for already being a customer and now deciding to pay upfront and putting my faith in anet to deliver a good product.
Compare the two if you may, imagine their thought process as the new and old customer go make their purchase and see what they’re getting for their money investment:
- 1 -The new customer, gets the base game (which is still valued at $40~$30 and is a known product, so you can look for reviews on what you might get) plus HoT(which is worth $50, but he’s effectively paying less than half for, but he doesn’t fully know what will come out of it, but even tho it is a uncertain product the price is so little that he most likely won’t mind it);
*2 – The old customer, gets HoT (like i said above, worth $50 but uncertain product).
Can you clearly tell whos making the biggest leap of faith with their money? And that they’re getting nothing for it?
2- use the HoT code on your current account, and therefore losing part of the product you are paying for;
What, exactly, are you paying for and losing out on? Now, before you answer, I’ll just reiterate that anet staff have repeatedly stated that with, or WITHOUT the core game included, you’d be needing to fork out $50 for the expac.
Whether HoT is worth $50 with or without the base game is irrelevant, when you buy any version of HoT you gain the core game “free”, but you cannot use said “free” core game whatever way you so wish, you can’t apply HoT to your current account and keep the “free” core game as a mule account, you can’t gift it to a friend, your only option is to have a new account with HoT or no new account at all. Do you understand now?
- Just to make something clear, i have no problem paying $50 for HoT, some ppl might but i don’t, my problem is that part of what they’re offering is not being fully given out to me because i’m not a new player.
(edited by Samhaim.8956)
Why is it so hard to understand for some people that we, the current players of the game, are being given to options with HoT standard bundle:
1- abandon your current account and make a new one, so that you can get the full value of the product they’re selling;
2- use the HoT code on your current account, and therefore losing part of the product you are paying for;
There’s no third option in which current players are given something to make up for the loss of the product that they can’t use if they decide to go with option #2. And that ‘simple’ fact is whats causing most of the problem, especially if you’re someone that value your money/is unable to have a fixed income/lives somewhere like brasil (the price after the conversion rate hovers around $150 before taxes, that’s 1/4 of the minimum wage here)
HoT Price Feedback + Base game included [merged]

LOLOL
so you want him to start fresh with HoT? you mean, not take all the characters with hundreds and hundreds of hours upon into the Magumma Jungle?
he said he should get a free account, I was just pointing out that he can. Sure its an empty account but guess what? so are the free accounts for new players. They have to start fresh too. Or maybe they should get free level 80s and free legendaries, since some players seem to think everything should be free.
If its too much, don’t buy it. Nobody is forcing you to. I’m pretty sure you can stay viable in existing pve, pvp and wvw with the basic traitlines.
Is it too hard of a concept to understand that people might want the HoT upgrade plus the base to be separated, and that it is not an option?
Right now they are advertising the base game to be included with the HoT purchase, but guess what, if you’re already a customer that doesnt apply to you, but you still have to pay the same amount ofc…
It’s like anet went out of their way to find how they could screw up the pre-purchase deals so that a large portion of playerbase would decide not to buy it.
Some people like to be mindful about where their money is being spent instead of just throwing it away on the first opportunity they get.
Harvesting nodes are not part of the core world. Just because they’ve been here since release, and have always been available, does not make the part of the core world. They have no inclusion in the living story or ‘direction’ of the game. These are the reasons given why SAB isn’t available. Does the living story still make sense without harvesting nodes? Yup. Does immersion or thematic elements in the game still function without them? Sure does. Crafting would obviously become ludicrously expensive, but that’s all that would change.
Harvesting is a core feature, introduced to every lv10 or so new character. You have nodes as living story chapters rewards, they are tied to a lot more than what you seem to take into account.
SAB isn’t available because they probably haven’t had a team working on it in between living story releases and going from partially working on HoT to full on HoT, And if someone can’t accept the answer that they’ve already given us on the subject then that’s just too bad, i mean they don’t even give us a timetable for when the expansion will be live, why would they do that for SAB?
Would you pay extra money for an infinite version of something that you only planned on using once? Probably not, the fact that it is infinite and reuseable said that the content would be coming back again. They themselves set a 6-7 month period by releasing W2 6-7 months after the first one. What if you bought infinite harvesting tools today, used them all over tyria and then woke up tomorrow to find that they removed harvesting nodes from the world? They have not said they are not going to remove harvesting nodes from the world and then what if instead of a refund they just told you that when the time is right and it wouldn’t take away from the living story, they would reintroduce the harvesting nodes and you could use it again? do you think you would feel the same way?
You didn’t use it once tho did you? And even if you had for whatever reason used it only once, its not their fault, again, they never set a timetable for it to return, they did however say when they would be removing it, so you had more than enough time to think if you really wanted to buy it or not, all things considered.
The comparison is kinda ridiculous, they didn’t set a 6-7 month period, you set a 6-7 month period because you had expectations, nowhere did they ever said SAB was a permanent content or that you’d have the chance to play it every year.
Harvesting nodes on the other hand are part of the core world so if they were to remove it for whatever reason the situation would be completely different.
They’ve said that they will when the time is right.
Which is a wholly meaningless and worthless statement.
No. It’s a definite yes rather than it being that they will never bring it back. You may not like that there’s not a specific timeline attached to it but that does not mean that it’s a meaningless and worthless statement.
No, it’s a meaningless and worthless statement because what does “when the time is right” even kittening mean?
When there’s literally nothing going on in the game?
When it’s been five years later and they happen to remember it’s a thing that existed that peopled liked?
How about five minutes before all the servers permanently shut down?
How about when the Sun is just about to go Super Nova?
Oh, I know! How about just before the heat death of the kittening Universe?
Something as vague as “when the time is right” can mean that ANet can NEVER find the time right, and as such, never have to actually release SAB, again, and on the tiniest of technicalities they could claim to not be full of kitten. It’s a bullkitten vague statement so they can worm around having to actually be held accountable.
Christ, at this rate, Half Life 3 is going to be a thing before SAB ever returns.
Accountable for what?
They do not have to bring SAB back. They never said they would when it was released in the first place.
I will never understand ppl that ask for a refund on the infinity coin, if you used it at all during SAB you are not entitled to a refund, you bought it and you made use of it. A refund would only make sense if you bought it and then SAB was taken out before you could even use the coin.
I’m right and everyone that disagrees with me is a white knight mimimimimi is the best troll argument to be used these days. /s
The fact of it is:
Legendaries are not just skins, each and everyone of them has their own set of animations, aura, effects on mobs, etc etc etc… group that with new evolving precursors and the lore behind the scavenge hunt for every single legendary, it is quite a bit of work. Trying to deny that is quite stupid, not as stupid as comparing it to what WoW does or does not add, since WoW has a bigger team and a lot more resources to pull from.
Anyhow, if i had to guess i’d say we’ll be seeing one legendary for each of the specializations, so: Hammer, Staff, Greatsword, Sword, Shield, Longbow(?), Rifle(?) and whatever warriors and revs get.
Tho if they manage to get all of the legendaries done by HoT launch it would be pretty nice.
My issue is with story steps being disjointed. If i chose to leave sylvari to their fate at the start, and later went back and replayed being the cabbage hero, then which scenario will the next story instance pick up? Probably none, as it’s not connected to previous because you can make all the choices you want by replaying it. That’s the point where it hurts the most.
It will most likely depend on the branch you pick last, imagine it like the regular personal story step that at the end give you an option to pick, depending on what you pick in that instance the next step will change, and if you decide to replay the instance with the option and choose differently then whatever option you choose at that time will be the one that influences your next instances.
That’s what i think they’ll be doing, the choices will be there, the different instances will be there, the only difference will be the chance to play all of them with one character if you want to.
I think most of you are just misunderstanding what was said.
Racial story steps are great and all, but to fully experience all of the possible branches you need to roll several different characters, that is Not a good thing, and what is being proposed is simply make instances be repeatable so that you can experience all of the outcomes with the same character if you desire to do so. You can still keep it one branch per character and experience something new everytime, but they are talking about being able to give you the option to experience it all on the same one for ppl that want to.
For the love of god will people stop comparing gw2 gliders to archages? They’re not used for the same purpose.
The glider is small because we’re not gonna be flying with it everywhere, its supposed to be a way to cross gaps you couldn’t otherwise, not kittening go laps around a tree root or smth.
All these “don’t like it don’t use it” people not even reading the OP…
The problem here is that people can exploit the camera changes, putting people who do not at a disadvantage. It’s not “exploiting the camera”, it’s literally just using it. Anyways, Anet know that it can be used for way and they even approved of it- go watch the PoI about the camera changes if you don’t believe me.
So yeah, it’s working as intended. There’s nothing to fix.
Oh, so putting arrow carts by the walls to destroy other machines you shouldn’t even see is now officially a part of the player experience, very fun and now it sure as hell doesn’t seem cheap that I know this. Thanks specs-man!
Shouldn’t even see by what standarts? by game standarts you could always see them, by real life standarts…uhm, then we’d have to remove the option of arrow cart aiming at siege on any walls at all since you shouldnt be able to see it unless its really poor placed.
I don’t understand the complaints about this, this is not a new mechanic people, as long as they knew how everyone could do it before.
All these “don’t like it don’t use it” people not even reading the OP…
The problem here is that people can exploit the camera changes, putting people who do not at a disadvantage. Try thinking of an actual solution instead of yelling about wanting to keep your new toy, it’s not helping anybody because anet is not removing these changes anyway, they will at best tweak them.
People could already do that before, the changes just made it so they don’t have to go into windowed mode anymore to do it.
The official response is “it’s in beta, but it’s actually live, so we don’t care.”
Despite the fact that the camera settings were never claimed to be in any sort of beta, and the “beta” map they use to test this is supposed to be EotM. This is a joke. The patch was delayed a week for “additional testing” and then released to us on Monday.
So how bad did the Chinese get it? The western patch is a nightmare. Fix your crap and stop the furious backpedaling when things go wrong. Interact with us like we’re, you know, people that actually paid for and play your game. It’s ridiculous.
If you had logged on and looked at the options you’d see a big and clear “BETA” on the new camera options. EotM is the beta map? where are you getting this from? the only time EotM was used on beta, that we know of, was when they were Beta Testing EotM, shocking i know.
The patch wasn’t delayed a week, it was delayed indefinitely so the fact that we got it on monday means absolutely nothing. And when it comes to chinese release, all i heard about it was the leaked patch notes we got(because they were released there when the patch was not ready, which lead them to be taken down after). So as far as i know the chinese client doesn’t even have this changes live yet, since they usually patch a couple days after it goes live for us.
Regarding the FoV+AC interactions, it was expected, they said so in the blog post, in which they also mentioned people could already do that before if they used windowed mode, so what is the difference?
Here’s a theory as to why a build saver isn’t feasible, or at the very least difficult. Builds in this game aren’t based just on your chosen traits, but also on at least 12-14 pieces of gear (armor/weapons/trinkets) and associated utility skills. Assuming you’re even willing to carry half a bag’s worth of extra gear in your inventory, coming up with a mechanic that switches all that around with a click or two when out of combat seems like it would be difficult in the extreme.
Wow and Rift both do that. Thats standard now.
Wow is over 10 years old, with a sub model, you can’t really compare the amount of resources it has had available to it, to what anet has. I’ll refrain from commenting on Rift because i know jack about it or about how complex its system is. Either way, there is no guideline of Holy features mmos need to follow to meet the standard requirements
All the mmos i’ve played never cared much for templates tbh, the only one i remember having one was Tera(glyph build templates), so i never really understood the bashing for gw2 not having one. I mean sure it seems like a nice QoL improvement, changing things on the spot and all, but i’d rather seem ascended equips being able to swap between prefixes through some upgrade, and i can perfectly live with how trait swapping works rn, but i wouldn’t complain if we were to get a quick time-saver like templates.
And that’s why I don’t craft.
lol Ascended is making me wonder about that myself. I used to have all the crafts when I began the game, but I couldn’t afford to keep up with them all, so I dropped half of them.
I’m trying to decide whether or not to make ascended armor for my main. I keep waffling and haven’t come to a conclusion. It appears making it will take much longer than the month or so due to cooldowns because of needing so much silk.
If you do decided to go for it i suggest crafting the pieces that take the less amount of mats overall, like gloves/ boots/shoulders, since you never know when you might get lucky to find a ascended armor box or smth. Its what i’ve been doing to get my heavy armor set, and so far i got gloves and shoulders through crafting and top/bottom through drops
I would love to see all these endless threads about this “terrible system” since yours seem to be the only one i see and i have yet to find anyone i know that has complained about it, either way, do as you please.
Search function is there. Failing that, read the other replies to this thread. Don’t close your eyes just because you don’t want to challenge yourself to think, rather than blindly follow.
Do you agree with the system? A few crafters making abit of gold, at the expense of the player base, yes or no?
Yea, give me a second, let me open my eyes and see how many are agreeing with you against this nefarious system that anet put in place!!/s
2 others agreed with you, out of everyone else that replied. Is that your big proof of the majority of the player base feeling like the system is crap?
All you’ve done in the whole thread is argue like a child who is denied his gift before christmas, "But I want it NOW!!11!!11!! :‘[ " If you want it so kitten bad then farm the kitten materials, sell them, and use the money to buy the ascended mats. Problem kittening solved, no need to whine and bring out baseless numbers of ppl affected by x or y when you don’t know crap about it aye?
I would love to see all these endless threads about this “terrible system” since yours seem to be the only one i see and i have yet to find anyone i know that has complained about it, either way, do as you please.
ESPECIALLY since ascended armor doesn’t even offer a significant stat increase over exotic.
so….if its not worth it…don’t do it….? You don’t NEED ascended unless you are planning high level fractals, you don’t need it…at all….
Heck, even after its release, I STILL don’t have a full set of ascended yet. I could, but I don’t NEED IT. I just craft a piece when the mats come to me. I’m still sitting on the ascended chest from my luminescent gear collection, not even sure what piece I want.
Its inherently limiting, its the underlying issue of not being able to reap rewards of my work and the accomplishment in doing so that is bugging. Its the arbitrary implementation of the system to begin. It does not NEED to be in the game, yet it is and it is directly affecting my enjoyment as well as progress in the game.
Just because you don’t understand why they implemented it it doesn’t mean it was arbitrary, so i’ll explain it to you:
Anet wanted crafters to be able to make money out of the new crafting levels, so they made it so that if you wanted to craft your ascended set as fast as possible you would have to buy the crafted pieces from, (you guessed it!), crafters. If they didn’t they the price for the ascended mats would be basically the price of base mats+1s and thatd be it, nothing to be gained for crafters. So with this system in place, crafters make money by selling their time-gated product to people that are impatient and can’t wait around to craft it themselves, and there’s no harm done to the people that are impatient since they’d be farming the money for it anyways.
But you just contradicted yourself there, if it was never supposed to be something that can be bypassed with a credit card, why can people still buy the timegated pieces of the TP? They can buy gems, sell gems and buy the gear, simple.
The time gated pieces can be bought of the TP because anet wanted crafters to be able to make money out of this if they so wanted.
I wouldn’t mind that if I was able to craft the gear as a I got the mats which I also stated wouldnt just be afew days. It took me 2 weeks to get crafting to 500 and it will take me another 2 weeks to farm the rest of the mats, thats still a month. Not a short amount of time at all.
You can craft as you get the mats for it tho, just set yourself a lower goal for getting enough mats for every piece you need to craft every day and after that’s done you can use w/e time you have left on the day to do as you want. Much better than farming mats non-stop until you get everything to craft ur set, but that’s just my opinion. And if by chance you end up getting enough mats for everything you plan on crafting and still need to wait it out, you can just log in everyday for a couple mins to craft it, get your daily login reward, and log out if you so desire.
Besides you said you wanted to get ready for when HoT is released, and it’s not like it’s getting dropped anytime soon, so what would you do after you rushed to craft that set in 2 weeks? Just take your time, make sure you craft as much as you can every day, do things you want to do and once HoT is released, you’ll have your set ready.
Also in case you don’t know, the ascended equipments are all account bound, so while they don’t offer much stat-wise over exotics its a great convenience if you got more than one character that uses the same equip types.
As Electro said, sylvari skin color is in the hair. It changes stem colors and shading.
I was neutral on the suggested change at the start of this thread, but now I do think hair kits should include skin color, for all races. It still doesn’t let you swap gender, face structure, musculature, and so on, but does fit the theme of the kit.
Why is everyone taking this out of context? Your skin is your skin, if you wanted to change that you can change it in a total makeover kit. The topic of this thread is that the glow matters what colour your hair (i.e. the leaves/pine cone/ spikes/whatever) appears.
It’s not out of context, like they said and you can’t seem to understand, the skin color of sylvaris is present in their hair.
And no, i disagree that they should add glow to the hair kits, glow is not a stylish option, its somewhat of add-on of the sylvaris skin that appears at night. glow is like makings or patterns or tattoos, with a difference that it adds a little flair to the sylvaris hair, but that is not its main function.
Stronghold will only have that map avaliable to it on release, as for conquest and deathmatch i don’t rmb seeing any mentions to new maps being added, so i wouldn’t keep my hopes up if i were you, but i this is just as far as i know.
How exciting would the dungeons (let’s face it, that’s what we’re talking about) in any trinity game be if they were seeing continual play with no updates, no new rewards, no heroic modes or any other additions for 2.5 years, and no new dungeons on the horizon, either?
I honestly really like the dungeons in this game, with the different paths and great rewards it offers a lot of replay-ability, but the combat is stale the first run, much less the 50th.
Sorry but i have to disagree, if you’re running a dungeon for the first time casually without stack and los’ing mobs the combat is anything but stale, i still have vivid memories of my first AC run about 2 years ago with my guildies and the near 3~4 hours it tooks us to figure out the bosses and rooms and finish it. Hell, i was helping my gf with story dungeons and the SE golem bosses while youre fighting kudu(?) all require a different kind of stragety to beat, doing it with a bunch of new players was one of the most fun ive had with dungeons in a while.
I honestly just wish the AI on dungeons get fixed so that we can all finally move on from stacking and los’ing mobs and go back to actually being able to move around when fighting.
I feel like this is the most screwed thing with gw2 pve right now, you get this amazing action combat but the mobs AI ‘reward’ you for stacking in one spot where you can barely see whats going on, instead of being able to move around freely and make use of the action based combat we were given…
To add on some stuff that has been answered already:
- accessing the game is completely free of charge after you buy, and the regular content added to the game so far has also been free of charge, you only have to buy gems or convert gold→gems if you want to access the instanced story steps and achievements related to certain updates but only if you weren’t able to get on during the time the update was active(which is usually a two-week period). The price of those is 200 gems each, which is about 2 bucks if i’m not wrong.
- you can also get transmutation stones(the things you to copy one armor/weapon look to another) from pvp reward tracks and for completing pve map.
- the guild cap is at 500 and they can’t increase it at the time because of a game limitation, but you can be part of 5 guilds at the same, tho you’ll only be able to read the chat/access bank/show tag of the guild you are currently representing.
A few days ago I saw blue stream gw2, I have no idea is Blue gonna stream gw2 in the future or not. I mean if we can get blue and soda stream gw2 at same time, we can get twitch NO1 in no time. Anet really should get in contact with Blue, not to pay him or anything, just talk about pvp portion because he seems to be interested in that.
what’s nightblue? a new dye? does it have to be diluted in a stream of soda in order to work? What’s twitch and why are you interested in its nitrogen monoxide emissions?
no entiendo….
He’s a streamer, a pretty famous one, Challenger player on League of Legends, usually he have around 30k viewers
A Legend in his own Lunchtime.
Y’all can act like such childs sometimes, nightblue is no legend but when hes playing the game hes giving it free advertising for ~30k ppl, that makes the game jump up in twitch charts which in turn brings in more viewers to the other twitch gw related channels and consequently more players to the game.
So while he may be a nobody to many of you, his impact in the game through twitch is much bigger and brings more ppl in than any of you could.
And before anyone try to claim that i’m a nightblue fanboy, well guess what, i’m not, i just happen to pay attention to twitch and other gaming community circles instead of having my head shoved up on my kitten while makking snarky remarks on forums all day
OT: idk about anet doing this, but if other gw2 vets follow what phantaram did to teach soda about classes and stuff it could go a long way in teaching these new streamers how the game works when it comes to pvp and stuff.
YEA! Let’s kill the elder dragon on our own and show everyone how its done! ez pz m8!!
To the ppl complaining about the dungeon community and lfg, you can start you own dungeon saying “story mode any welcome watching cutscenes” or whatever the hell you want and it’ll fill up in a few minutes. I’ve done it on my alt, worked just fine, no one was complaining or calling ppl noobs or w/e…All you gotta do is state what you’re looking for and you’ll get it.
@OP i think it would make absolutely no sense to have us solo the fight against zhaitan, its an elder dragon, a weakened one, but still, its a massive battle and you’re not the star, you’re just part of the army, and if you weren’t there someone else would’ve taken your place. In such massive fight you are Not a special snowflake.
No I do not realize that because that’s not true. I was following my friend and while doing to I took that skillpoint outside of the garrison, which started the confusion because my friend couldn’t do it and neither of us knew why.
Same thing with Vistas. He asked me: “What is this?” when he saw the actual vista-flag in the physical space, but nothing on the map and no way to interact with it. I told him it was Vista which would trigger a panoramic cutscene and give you some exp. afterwards. I also told him that like the skillpoint he first had to be a high-enough level before he could see it. To which he asked: “Then how come YOU are interacting with it? Aren’t we the same level?” To which I replied: "Yes we are, but you are a new player and I’m not, that’s why you have some restrictions that I don’t have. To which he replied: “That’s stupid. Does Anet think I’m a moron or something?”
So yeah, go figure. Even after we both understood why he couldn’t get skillpoints/vistas yet I could we still thought it was ridiculously stupid and absolutely unnecessary.
You can interact with vistas at any level, they just won’t show in your map until you reach a certain level. I’m not gonna contest the skill point thing, i find it a non-issue as long you’re aware of the changes or able to figure them out easily, happened to me when i was first running around with my gf, we didn’t know why she couldn’t commune with the sp place but we just assumed it would be unlocked later, but i can see how it could be confusing if you’re distressed over it and/or not paying that much attention.
And why do you think that? The only frustrations my friend experienced were NPE related. So that quite contracts your opinion.
The statement that it supposedly took longer to reach lvl 20 and unlock your weapon skills before the NPE is also factually not true. Before the NPE we could do the Personal Story right away. The Personal Story used to give you the biggest bulk of exp while leveling and by the time I completed my first map (Queensdale) I was already lvl 26. I’ve leveled 2 new characters after the NPE introduction and neither where higher than lvl 20 when I completed the first map. I believe both where around lvl 15 when I completed the first map on them.
The reason why leveling in the NPE isn’t faster is because of the gating of the Personal Story.
Even with the PS gating, i still believe that the NPE is faster when it comes to unlocking your weapon skills, if you had an necro pre-NPE, the effort to unlock all your skills and things like death shroud were pretty annoying and took quite a while. Still if they could unlock all profession mechanics within the first 5 levels, or not lock it at all, it would be a lot better than it is right now.
And you don’t need to be an experienced player to be able to level faster, the game basically tells you where to go, guiding you from heart to heart and then pointing out events, i know this because like i said the only guiding i did to my friends was showing them stuff like jumping puzzles and world bosses whenever we were in the area and it was about to spawn.
+1 ^
Well it all go backs to Zerker problem, as bad as holy trinity is, it is still way better than all zerker.
I’ll take playing with my own build and slapping some zerker gear on every now and then over having to be forced to wait for a healer/tank to do content any day of the year.
Gw2 is not just about dps, not if you really understand what you have to do and why, its about using the right support skills at the right time while doing w/e you want for dps, which if you think about it is more than most trinity games would have you do( dps=rotation, tank=aggro/control, healer=reactive support). The problem with gw2 pve has little to do with zerker and a lot to do with mobs AI and their ability to be threatening.
The idea of giving every class the ability to perform every role is interesting but it would end up backfiring as eventually people would learn which class ‘x’ does ‘z’ role the best and that’s what would become required on group content and if class ‘y’ tried to perform the same role they’d just be kicked or flamed for not being efficient enough at it and being told to switch to ‘v’ role which their class can do much better or smth.

I don’t get all the hate. It takes like a week to get level 20 and that’s taking your time and being a completionist. A little patience would have served you and your friend well. It is a great game.
A week is too much if you don’t actually enjoy yourself, way too much.
You do realize that it has nothing to do with anet the fact that you gave your friend wrong information because you were not aware of the changes and that if you had decided to just follow him around and kept on your way none of that would’ve happened right?
A week to level 20 is like way over exaggerating, every new account gets exp boosters and it takes around an hour to reach lv 10 if you follow the hearts and do events normally, from there on you can the first PS chapter, which shouldn’t take too long and it leaves you at ~13/15 and from then on you can finish your first map and move to the second one and by then you’ll be 20 or really close to it. All of that can be done in 2-3 days if you play a couple or hours daily. Though if you’re really not enjoying the game on your first hours in, i doubt it has to do with anything NPE related and i’m inclined to think you wouldn’t enjoy it back at launch either, where it took way longer to level/unlock skills/unlock all of the weapon skills.
I recently got my gf and a couple of our friends in the game, and the only complain i heard was relating to the PS changes past claw island, which are terrible and thank god will be fixed, but there was nothing about the game being boring or how trait unlocking sucks, they all seemed to enjoy the game quite a lot and all i did was accompany them while they leveled while directing them to a big event/world boss/jumping puzzle whenever we were close to one.
New players don’t need to hear about veterans biased comments about the NPE, all they need is the occasional steering in the right direction, and after that whether they’ll enjoy the game or not is purely a matter of personal taste.
Like Atherakhia mentioned the way boons can be reapplied right now is the issue, so i think a better change would be to have boon stripping add a debuff to the affected players making them unable to reapply w/e boon was removed for x amount of time, similar to how revealed/stealth works.
