Not to mention that most of the hate is born from ignorance in the first place

I think there IS some justification for the hate.

What we have here is a class balanced an AI, an AI that the devs have struggled for two years to find a good spot. Even now, there are still some players who feel that pets require more nerfing.

Additionally as some in this thread pointed out, due to the design philosophy of sustained damage, ranger weapons tend to rely on autoattacks for dpsing.

In short, like you said before, it’s not that the devs don’t know what to do with the class, but that their vision differs from ours, and this not only applies to the ranger community, but to the rest of the GW2 community as well.

Maybe simply extend the block to all attacks.

Otherwise a simple damage reduction – say 15 to 20% all the time when meleeing.

That’s the sad reality of Power Rangers. Anet did give us a reason to run it because of Survival of the Fittest, but more tweaks will be welcome though, especially in the Skirmishing line.

Anyway, even though sword aa is low, it’s really fast. Consider using QZ with it.

Has anyone ever considered making Fortifying Bond work both ways? I basically want this to combine with Companion’s Might so we can give ourselves Might stacks and use Rune of Strength. Additionally, vigor can be potentially useful for the pet.

To prevent abuse, the effect should only work once per boon. To elaborate, if my pet shares a Might with me using the above combo, my pet won’t get a second Might just because of the one from the pet, and vice versa. Another obvious restriction is that boons from your pet are affected by Concentration Training only.

I can see some potential risks with this. One example is that Stalker F2 might become over the top, especially when you solo, since you and the cat will be getting 10 stacks each. Still not a big deal when you’re in a party.

I suppose another risk is that there will be more Bearbows because this change will make people lazier than ever, since they can still stand 1200 away and aaing with longbow while getting boons from the rest of the party while giving nothing back.

What do you think?

I would love it if they simply reduce the swap penalty unconditionally rather than through a trait.

And +1 to moving the evade from aa to Swoop. In fact I would love it if Devs add in that Whirl Finisher to Power Stab in addition to Blast on Maul. Oh well a guy can dream…

Is it just me or did no one mention that you can buy ori tools with karma? I’ll admit the pick is rather annoying to get since you have to do an event in Southsun, but you can get the axe and sickle in Cursed Shore.

Anyway, I bought the infinite tools back when they’re 800 gems each, and don’t regret it, but now at 1000, I’ll have to think about it.

But seriously, I sometimes feel that there is no hope for this class, simply because of its inherit design. I have no complaints now save for some of the traits, which are minor issues at best, but the fact that being designed around an AI does make balancing a headache.

Perhaps OP should ask why Rangers and Engineers are still going condis over power.

“still” ? the most used builds before the patch were direct dmg rifles and grenades, not conditions .. same with Rangers and using direct dmg shortbows and greatswords kinda

Any grenade build is condi since Anet nerfed the power coefficient to hell back when they made sigils affect kits.

As for Rangers, the most common build is shortbow + sword/dagger/torch/axe condi. Greatsword + longbow are only used seriously in WvW zerging.

entangle is broken with this. only removes 1 condi.

It also doesn’t grant fury when you have SotF.

Tested it last night and the trait is bugged with Entangled.

Never mind the wrong tooltip, and I know the trait works outside combat because MT grants the fury.

We’ll see though. It’s the only new trait I have any real interest in using.

Pretty much the only trait anyone running power builds have any real interest in running.

If people are crying about rangers, it is always about Spirit rangers.

Spirit Ranger is a variant of the Condi Bunker.

I didn’t check the actual source, so does “unequip” mean moving the weapon to the inventory or swapping to the other weapon set?

If former, then I can imagine any build that rely on single main hand weapon might use this, in addition to Eles and Engies.

I can see grizzly being useful, but Arctodus? The others (with maybe the exception of Murellow) might be useful if it weren’t for the atrocious CD.

One thing to note is that the video is outdated, and most rangers, including the creator of that vid, now run the usual Melandru Runes + Lemongrass combo.

That being said, I would argue that that build is the Ranger meta for WvW zerg combat, at least until maybe the Feature Patch.

No it doesn’t, dunno why Anet simply nerfed it rather than giving it a coefficient.

Now that I think about it, do we really need these traits? What I mean is that, why not bake them into existing traits instead of new traits?

Read the Wing: Should be default for not only longbow, but also shortbow and harpoon gun. Or bake it into Piercing Arrows, Eagle Eye, or Quick Draw.

Strider’s Defense: Agreed that it’s useless. If you want to bake it, why not Martial Mastery?

Poison Master: I honestly can’t think of anything for this. Some suggested improved healing deficiency in addition to the DoT increase.

Survival of the Fittest: I will say that this is sorely needed, to the point that I’m willing to give it a pass. That being said, it would be great if this is baked into Wilderness Knowledge, or at the least Oakheart Salve, and possibly have the fury removed.

Invigorating Bond: I also have no idea what to do with this. Like some said, I have to see the healing value. But even then, I wouldn’t use it since I wouldn’t touch the trait line with even a ten-foot pole in the first place.

PS: I haven’t looked into other professions, but honestly I think Anet should focus what’s currently broken before adding new.

Disclaimer: I have zero experience with sPvP.

So I heard that the NM Grandmaster trait gives Survival skills condi removal and fury. So out of whim I came up with this build.

Some traits and skills can be switched and the Marksmanship GM is left blank because I’m thinking of using RtW, but you can use another trait as well.

Hmm… my ranger is my first character and just hit 80 today. I know bearbow is the hallmark of a n00b (and yeah, I leveled halfway as a bearbow). I’m now playing with axes and a lynx in a skirmishing / beast mastery build around bleeds / precision / condition damage, but I know I need a whole new approach if I am going to do any dungeons or fractals.

Any recommendations about what the best build for a new player would be in order to be useful instead of a rangetard in dungeons?

Pick up a sword or GS and learn to melee with it.

Way many people asked for faster arrows because players can just sidestep to avoid them… Not because it is not something you are looking forward to for your gameplay does not mean it’s a useless trait…
I’m more questioning making a gm trait out of something that just make LB arrows more likely to hit than the need of that feature…

But on another trait? LB traits are already too many, why can’t they just simply increase the base speed?
