I actually believe EB would be much better and quite reliable trait if you simply had
“Remove a condition from you and your pet every 3 (2,5?) seconds)”
There you go. Viable and if you pair it with evasive purity you have a nice condi cleanse. If you pair it with SotR you’ll be able to win against any of those pesky condi bombers … And yep, your team will love you twice as much if you take Healing Spring to all of that.
It used to work similarly like that before they double-nerfed it.
Previous version is “Pet REMOVES all conditions every 10 secs.”

So rangers who hate sword can still have something to melee with.
Even Legolas is quite proficient with melee weapons…
Marks, Skir, and BM for PvE.
I need to do some theorycrafting for WvW and PvP.

Why on earth would you want evade on AA removed? It’s the only weapon in the game with it and it is fantastic!
Because I agree that auto damage sucks and I’m willing to trade the evade for it.
I’d rather they remove the evade on auto and buff the Swoop evade one way or the other, either increasing the duration or reduce the skill CD.
(edited by Sarision.6347)
At least it’s reduced from 90s.
Basically it’s a case of “Anything a ranger can do, another profession can do it better.”
New Bearbow:
Marks
Skirmishing
BM (Take Beastly Warden)
Arctodus + Brown Bear
I love how remorseless went from absolute garbage trait that doesn’t synergize with anything to being amazing and synergizing with EVERYHING.
I’m glad they finally started taking some risks with the profession revamps, and the ranger in general
Oh you and me both.
Me three.
Is it just me or are people forgetting the fact that all of the changes are not final?
^Well when you’re dodging, you’re technically not DPSing.
^Same here.
Otherwise go with this:
Marks: LB + SB
Skirmish: Sword + GS
WS: Everything else
Is it just me or does anyone not noticing the fact that Wilderness Knowledge also reduces CD? I think it + TU + LR should be enough condi removal for most builds. If you need more, then there’s MT, SoR, QZ, SS, and Entangle.
EB should be moved to BM so it gets synergy with Loud Whistle.
Heh looks like we’re both on the same page.
Hmm well I like the idea of pets being tactical weapons; stowing it and unleashing it have their own advantages and disadvantages.
^Heard it’s baseline, but Dulfy’s notes only state velocity from RtW.
Perhaps Druid gets the “Aspect” mechanic discussed in CDI?
Man Wilderness Survival is insane, pretty much a staple in all PvP builds.
Dat Wilderness Knowledge.
Sebrent and Wonderouswall, I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels this way.
Speaking of autoattacks, the GS doesn’t have one.
i c wut u did dere
Correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t EB also had that requirement where you have to be within 600 units of the pet for it to work, like Signet of Renewal?
And then there’s the fact that it stops working when pet goes down.
I understand the above reasoning for taking EB; however, my main issue with EB is that it does not deserve its status as a grandmaster.
What we have here is a grandmaster trait that does not truly remove conditions, and uses the pet as some sort of scapegoat.
If I’m going to spend 6 trait points to remove conditions, it should remove them, not transferring them to the pet.
I’m glad more people are realizing EB is bad.
^ Might as well go back to 111111111111111111111111111 x infinity.
Reduce pet leash range to 5000.
^Wat.
I’ll bite: Rework LB auto. Keep the same coefficient (mid) and move the Vuln from RF to it, but only beyond 600 units.
Therefore, one stack of Vuln at 600 or greater for 5 seconds base. Oh and rename it to Power Shot or Penetrating Attack.
Perhaps they should simply rework Ranger downed state. Pet disappears and Lick Wound is replaced with something else…
He has NO IDEA what rangers do. There is a thread up on the PvP forum where he teaches some streamer about GW2. When he gets to ranger he can’t even put the right traits on a LB build and he has little idea what the skills do. Pretty amusing.
Didn’t he put up a thread on the states of professions in PvP Forum awhile back? In it he stated his view on the professions but when he came to Ranger, he said that he has no idea because he has zero interest in the Ranger.
Or was that someone else? I forget.
If we can stow pet, sure.
(edited by Sarision.6347)
Do you know why you are locked in to the chain?
Look, I kill many, many people in WvW with the sword just fine. The ONLY issue I have is the startup delay on hornet sting. Reduce that and there is nothing wrong with the weapon IMO.
Isn’t the delay due to the stabbing animation? Maybe lose that and move the damage into Monarch’s Leap.
I wish canines are amphibious…
Oh and also a diving bell spider: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diving_bell_spider
If a ranger does not have a pet, then what different is he from say, a warrior or a thief other than it’s skill set? I know that pets still have yet to be improved upon but removing them is just counter productive.
True, but how can we improve pets without incurring the wrath of PvP community?
Hate to say it, but yeah the difference in damage is not insignificant.
Would it be better to simply axe the duration by half? 20 seconds is a long time, even without the boon duration increases.
Those complaining about AI should just ask for a rework on both Mesmer and Ranger.
Someone made a suggestion of a heal trap; I propose classifying Healing Spring as a trap, just like its GW1 version:
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Healing_Spring
Should make the class more attractive in WvW and maybe even more criticized in PvP.
(edited by Sarision.6347)
If Devs want Celestial to benefit the class, they should do something about shortbow, not GS.
You’re asking for a rework; good luck with that.
I’d rather they move it to Skirmishing or merge it with Two-Handed Training.
(edited by Sarision.6347)
The only thing I hate about EB is that it’s not “true” removal. I feel that the devs overnerfed it, given its limitations (600 range and useless when pet’s down).
As for SotF, I used to be a fan of it, but not so sure of it anymore. The main reason is you’ll want to dedicate 8 trait points to make good use of it.
^What’s the condition damage used for?
I’d rather they improve the first 2 parts of the auto than bring the bleed back to Maul.
As it stands, the pet is the least important thing I consider when facing another ranger. It’s an after-thought and I don’t think this should be the case.
Ideally you are right, since pet is our profession mechanic, but we all know how the PvP community is going to react if the devs buff pets.
Not trying to derail the thread, but would 45050 maximize GS dmg because of Two-Hand Mastery + Bountiful Hunter?
^Isn’t that what Engineer Rifle is?
Love it in sPvP, hate it in PvE.
^This.
People complaining about about sword should advocate for more GS buffs, just sayin’.
“But, but I’m Ranger! I should be using bows! If I want to swing a sword, I should be playing Warrior, Guardian, or Thief!”
Wait, isn’t SoS instant-cast?
