I’m fine with nerfing Wild, but not Stone.
And if there is anything that needs changing on longbow, it’s the autoattack. Rename it to Power Shot or Penetrating/Sundering Attack, keep the mid-level damage, and move the vuln from RF to it.
I’m all for petless + compensation if the following happens:
Warrior gaining a Zen-esque style where they gain damage bonus in exchanging for not gaining adrenaline.
Guard gaining damage bonus for becoming non virtuous.
Thief gaining damage bonus for, well, quit being thief.
Engi loosing their belt, kits, and maybe their pants, for damage bonus.
Mesmer ditching clones like ranger ditching pet and gain damage bonus.
Ele mastering an attunement at the cost of other attunements and gain a damage bonus on that particular attunement.
Necro gaining damage bonus in exchange for not gaining life force.
PBS can be spammed at 1200 range? News to me…
Only issue I have with optional pet is that it will be a matter of time before the same people start asking for compensation.
Nah DnT’s advocating for longbow in PvE now. Use SoW + QZ + Barrage + RF and camp sword + axe.
Was this before or after the fix to Frost Spirit? That utility bar could change, which is why I’m asking.
Replace Sic ’Em with FS.

Let’s not beat the dead horse any longer.
The point is, one of Anet’s core balancing philosophy is “Melee > Ranged.” Now you have something that throws tomatoes at that philosophy.
Personally I think the RF buff is highly needed, unless people want rangers to 1111111111 at 1000+. That being said, I don’t mind some nerfs on other skills.
Apparently one dev has admitted that Frost Spirit is bugged and that they’re looking into it.
^Might as well turn it into Killshot 2.
This build is nothing new, honestly.
^ If you have spare points for that, then sure.
it could have 16s CD, grant fury and vigor as well as cleanse 2 conditions, potentially.
Now that is really overpowered. Should it also make you breakfast?
Not unless you’re willing to spend 8 trait points.
Now if only we could keybind the auto-attack toggle…
On a more serious note: it has been 2 years. As said with the “Congratulations!!! You are the 100.000th person…” post, these threads have also been popping up for 2 years. Is anyone still stubborn enough to cling on to their hopes of this getting fixed?
No I pretty much gave up on this, so I decided to craft ascended GS instead.
^My thoughts exactly.
Seriously what’s with this fascination with carrying two bows at once?
Has there ever been an archer, historically and contemporarily, who carries two bows at once?
Archers always had a melee sidearm. But because our name has “range” in it we are forbidden from carrying such a disgrace.
^That’s what I always thought. A competent archer would carry a dagger or shortsword or a hatchet, in case things do get personal.
And Isn’t melee also a form of “range?” Like we have melee-range, short-range, and long-range?

Just make the other two prevent point-capture.
Maybe we should just promote Ranger and Mesmer to Cheese Professions…
Every class has at least one cheese build though.
Yeah but according to the PvP community, AI = Cheese. And since Ranger and Mesmer have to play the pet and clones respectively, every build is literally cheese build.
Maybe we should just promote Ranger and Mesmer to Cheese Professions…
I can’t even remember the last time I used Protect Me, if ever…
Should just move Martial Mastery out of Wilderness Survival instead.
Surprised that it took this long for this thread to pop up.
^Cuz they spent time to level it to 80, and only then realize that it’s crap?
Am I the only one who feels that Heal As One only needs small changes like 1s cast time and Survival Skill status?
Frankly Oakheart Salve should have been SotF minus the Fury.
No, otherwise people would QQ Rangers instead of Warriors.
What do you expect? Pets can’t even PvD in EotM.
Honestly I feel like the topic is going off the track. I thought OP was talking about using GS as the main weapon, while everyone else was talking about LB instead.
Btw how long will it take before some people call LB build cheesy and brainless due to autoattack spam and ranging off-node.

Rangers are a nature class, and gun clash with that.
Now, as much as I want rifles on my Ranger, that is something we must acknowledge.
Instead, I’d like to see Rangers get Hammers, so that we can bunny thump some dragons.
I think if we ever got a new weapon, it would be staff or MH dagger. Those two are really all that fit in with the “druid” lore atm.
But Hammers fit with Guild Wars lore. It even acknowledged by the devs themselves!
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Bunny_ThumperNot to mention, a famous Ranger character in GW1 also uses a hammer during the Norn Fighting Tournament:
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/ZhoConsidering there was an entire cross-campaign side-quest involving Zho after fighting her in the Norn Fighting Tournament, I’d think Hammers and bunny thumpers are pretty well established for Rangers in GW lore.
Seriously, ANET needs to consider giving us back Bunny Thumpers. They were a really well loved part of Rangers in GW1.
You forgot Nente in AC Story Mode.
It’s viable if your team makes it viable. Our Ranger, Eurantien, played Power Ranger with LB/GS in the ToL 2 Qualifier 1. We won our four games and advanced to the August Finals. If your team makes use of it correctly and makes it viable, it is.
So it requires the entire team to be built around it?
Might as well remove Mesmer and Ranger from the game.
Bet if this is implemented people will start naming their rangers “Link.”
Anyway, +1 to this concept.
Not worth the aggravation imo. While you make a very valid point and back it up with far more PvP experience then I’ll ever have (strictly GvG and WvW myself), is it really worth furthering the whole AI stereotype the class is dealing with?
I’d much rather see them find something to make the Ranger unique. How? We’ve had a whole CDI thread and more discussing that one.
Couldn’t have said better myself.
+1 A nice QoL change I’d like to see.
A few weeks back, someone (not gonna name who) in sPvP forum actually claimed that pets need a further nerf to the leash range – down to 1500, or simply any nerf in general.
Honestly I don’t agree with that, but at the same time, I’m not sure I would agree with OP. I feel any form of buffs should go directly to the ranger, with the exception of pet control.
I feel that if the devs want to commit to the somewhat controversial balance philosophy from the Ready Up, they need to get their sheep together.

I would prefer if they cut both the duration and recharge down by half, so 10s and 60s respectively.
Also GS having sword-level damage would make sword basically obsolete (amazing offhands aside) due to the redonkulous amounts of evade on autoattack. LB being able to compete with the swords would mean it did like 20k per autoattack from 2000 range. This is regarding PvE.
GS having sword-level damage in PvE does make sword obsolete, not because of the evade on Power Stab, but because people don’t have to deal with the sword auto.
^Or they can simply tack the evade on F3 along with a cooldown.
Its not that empathic bond should be a master trait like cleansing ire, its that cleansing ire should be a grandmaster trait like empathic bond.
Agreed, either that or take out that adrenaline gain.
PvP and PvE Yes. WvW meh.
?
Ranger is awesome in WvW roaming, if you can carry supply and aren’t rally bait than you are useful in a zerg.
Even then there are several classes topping it in roaming.
I main ranger, but I don’t PvP much, mainly WvW and PvE.
In PvP, Spirit Ranger is your best bet, yes it’s no longer considered top tier by some, but it still gives considerable reward vs risk ratio. Otherwise you can give traps, BM, and even Power Ranger a try.
In WvW, Ranger is underachieving in zergs, period, but you can give this a try: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fNAQJARTjMq0xaFLOsQ1agAha9BEAFQrbw9TsvhdBraA-TlSDwA9UiNT9nc7PEUpxhjAgATDCVGk4QAKBBprBgZOyAwMGA-w. The class is better at roaming, but even then there are several classes topping it.
In PvE, you only have one build: Frost Spirit + Spotter. Not everyone likes the sword, so those that don’t use GS.
It’s been suggested before countless times, but it just goes against the devs’ visions.
I would like it to affect both the pet and the Ranger, so I don’t have to rely on the signet.
I just go shortbow in dungeons if I need to range.
I just wish HaO gets at least a slight cast time reduction, like down to 1s just like TU.
Meh, I’ll use it since it IS our top DPS weapon.
But if devs do offer a rework, I’ll be the first in line.
Sustained melee AoE
So does that mean we don’t cleave with our melee weapons, but actually AoE (five targets instead of three)?
Yes rangers are broken. Main source of damage = auto attack.
You mean autoattack + pet.
