Hi everybody, Some of you will already know the name Foostival and be aware of it. For those that are not the Foostival is a fan run celebration of all things GW2.
It takes place every year with events across Europe ( check out https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/foostival-2014-a-celebration/ ) and this year we would like to bring the foostival to the UK. In order to bring the Foostival to you in the best possible way we would love to hear your thoughts on it via our 2 minute survey over at
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1jb7fXAS2zwHwOLN0WcsqULS3VwJIhfz7g3H-i2VSR4c/viewform
A random respondent will be selected to win a Mini Lama pet as a thank you for your time.
For those of you that enjoyed our coverage we go live every 2 weeks to cover Guild Wars 2 in depth. You can find us tonight at twitch.v/mmobuff at 8pm uk time
Not going to drop any more puns in the thread my wit isn’t quite SARP enough for that this time of the morning….(sorry I always blame Dara)
Chap it’s a sad time to see you leave you’ve been a huge influence on the game and it’s development. It’s been great the few times I’ve interacted with you but I know you are going to have the hugest success in the future.
Hugh I can attest is a great fit for the Chap shaped hole. Hugh you’ll kill this
all the best to both of you
I’m just passing through the thread while on the train so if I have time I can sit and do numbers later but just incase … here goes
24 hour coverage
To keep it short I don’t beleiove anything that you can class as low hanging fruit is viable here to tackle this. It is the nature of a 24 hour game that players will play in a manner that games this as best possible. Without changing the game type you aren’t going to stop or mitigate people playing for the whole of the 24 hour period.
scoring
This is a great idea form my pov. It follows a similar idea to the current split up of the wvw tourney into smaller weekly segments and whether they scoring is weighted differently or each scoring period is given a score itself, each being a match is debateable.. Either has merits
There is also some merit to the idea that over a period of time the accumulation of points scored for performing an activity (eg capturing sm) is scaled based on the total number of points that a server has such that over the initial say X number of points a server can gain occurs at a normal rate, at a total points score of Y the score gain per tick or for performing an activity is scaled down such that rather than a linear graph of total points scored over time we’d see this increase then tend towards a flat line (not entirely obv) .
This increase in difficulty to gaining points would potentially stop snowballing , be able to tackle the night team if combined with scoring periods however it again would encourage some amount of being first out the gate and stacking to the start of the wvw scoring period. SO nothing perfect but some ideas to think about
For any of you that missed it the replay of the Friday night Convergence is at http://youtu.be/VydKE9XAtdY?list=UUT4GszAok8j1MtGPl3okglA
today’s the last day we will be accepting questions as we need to pick some winners and organise ourselves for Eurogamer.
The response has been fantastic thus far and I’m looking forward to Fridays Convergence when we get to put your questions forward.
Hi Everyone, Pax, Gamescom and E3 are all past for 2014 but con season isn’t quite over yet. The team at ArenaNet are taking Guild Wars 2 to London, England and the Eurogamer Expo show . Between 25th-28th September devs and the community team will be on hand to sign your stuff, answer your questions and sample dubious British culinary delights. They will also be helping us present the Friday night Convergence show on MMOBuff.tv
On Friday 26th September at 6pm British time, in a change to our normal 8pm time, we will be broadcasting live from the Eurogamer Expo at the Twitch booth. You can catch us and some of the team form AenaNet over at twitch.tv/mmobuff during this broadcast.
With Devs on hand it’s a great opportunity to get questions answered. We want your help to pick those questions. Drop us an email on voice@mmobuff.tv with questions for the ArenaNet dev team or topics you want us to cover.
While you could just be curious to find out some more about Guild Wars 2 there’s another reason to pose your questions. Everyone entering a question will get put into a draw to win a super rare Mini Lama Pet as well as a other prizes such as GW2 mouse mats and notebooks.
Thank you Allie for your tireless effort. It’s been a great privilege to see you progress through the studio and I’m sure that you are going on to even greater things.
Have a good time and come back Evan just to keep an eye on us
Great to see the wuvwu get more time on ready up
ive got a few specific questions relating to what we have so far.
Specifically if it crosses home server will that lead to it being used to not play as intended?
right that’s everything off the top of my head… probably more tomorrow
Hello all you desoleers!
With Afterlfie having moved back to Piken Square we were in WvW last night and I had a fantastic thought. What with all the the Scarlet bashing you’ve all been doing there’s an abundance of quaggan tonic around. This is surely the time find out who is better pink quaggan or blue quaggan, green quaggan or black quaggan…. surely there’s one way to tell.
Im proposing the first (maybe last) Deso vs Piken Quaggan brawl. Thursday night in WvW we want to meet you on the lush fields of Gunnar’s Hold. Relive those epic GvG fights, run round the windmill, avoid the spiders in the orchard all in QUAGGAN RUMBLE!
Gunanrs Hold BL 8.30PM GMT on Thursday? desolation vs Piken Quaggan costume Brawl!
Fooo Foooo
what do you say ?
<3 screenager
no confirmation on that Ahmrill however I wouldn’t expect it if it’s not been announced
With the new year jsut coming in We’re finally off Christmas break and active in WvW again.
We are recruiting for players wanting to play EU time zone looking for fights that are not just blob vs Blob… saying that like Monday night when we have to step up and take a borderlands by the scruff of the neck we can still lead it to victory
Good to see you back on. We had a similarly sucessful night on Monday starting back. Went from defending garry on SoR pretty much alone to taking things by the scruff of the neck and turnign round the whole map
good times to be on SoR
WIth our current entry into the Edge of The Mists Testing we are looking for new players to fill our ranks and help bolster our active Euro prime time players.
Please feel free to take a look and apply if you think we are a good fit for you

Seems like people really enjoy answering questions so I’ll throw out a few more.
How big do you expect a squad to be?
What kind of content is a PvE commander most useful?
Is money a good enough gate for commander tags?Just a note from a purely wvw perspective. Talking about how big a squad should be. The potential changes being made here if squad management comes into the picture really presents the possibility of pushing grouping in wvw away from 60,70,80+ people on one player towards smaller squads based on having a reasonable number of players visible on a squad and group management window or overlay.
Just a thought as I always like to encourage players not to ball massive numbers in one place as much as possibleand yep erm 30 seems reasonable for a squad tbh (purely personal answer)
I’m in agreement with Screenager on this one.
The element that I feel most people aren’t considering when they ask for 50+ people in a Commander’s squad is the UI.
First off, I don’t think Anet wants to design a fully flexible UI frame that can fit up to 50 people and grow/shrink in size based on the number of players in the frame and customizations by the user. I sure as hell know I’d hate to design such a thing in a game that’s designed on field awareness and watching your opponent, as opposed to staring at bars and panels. Seriously, a 50 person UI frame would have to cover a 4th of the screen to be large enough to see, display each player, and actually present meaningful information.
Now…imagine some of the suggestions of “Oh, you should be able to have the whole map in your squad!” Ideas like these don’t think about the future. There would be no possible way to make a UI frame to support that.
To prevent UI clutter, I too would have to limit a squad at 30 people. Squads that are coordinating together can communicate via the Commander chat tab. Commanders could have the option of granting privilege to Lieutenants to also post in this tab. Anyone would have visibility into the tab, but only Commanders and Lieutenants have speaking privileges. The tab could be added as a filtered selection to appear in the Main chat tab as well (or any tab the user desires).
Good points.
But we can still play around with some of these ideas.
What about a limited visibility system.
commander sees all of his/her sub commanders on the map.
sub commanders can see 2 groups in their ui.This way 10 player squad will be effective on its own and a commander can see their position on the map.
Another way to do it is to have a group lead assigned in each group. This group lead is visible on commander’s map. Have squad limited to say 6 groups.
In the end you still need voip to coordinate well, and it might be ok to keep the current system but with a few changes. But hey we can dream:D
I jsut read through the suggestions about sub group leads having map icons and visibility and it geniuenly is a good idea (here comes the bbut part :P )
but….
bearing in mind I’m trying to think about what is high and low reach to get done… would a commander tag with a lower squad cap (im throwing 30 around but you get the idea), the ability to change your tag icon or colour allow the same kind of functionality by having say 4 people on ts with different tag colours on map without having to have the pressure of producing a whole ream of code in game for it ?
I still think its a neat idea I jsut wonder re balance of what we could potentially get quicker
Seems like people really enjoy answering questions so I’ll throw out a few more.

Most of what I would expect has been mentioned here and YES the tag would be more useful with the lower reach stuff sure. I’d say that acquisition via guild unlocks and being able to have different tag shapes / colours are probably the most useful of that list from our pov.
The end goal from my pov on this will be to provide us with a tool that allows us to manage a large group and without that “raid frame” for player and group management these lower reach suggestions don’t really approach the goal of making the commander tag useful in lots of situations to manage large groups of players across a decent distance. They still essentially mean I have to have 30 players on me to know whats going on with them, I can’t send a 5 man group off to do something knowing their composition and whats happening to them without having them on comms directly.
more markers, guild only tags, less suppression, better supply info, and possibly additional marker shapes?
I think something thats been raised and that is probably the biggest deal here is going to be managing expectations in the CDI as stated in the last topic. A lot of the reason I didn’t get hugely into the CDI was that I honestly feel a lot of players (especially the ones who shout loudest about the problems) don’t understand how low rach or not a problem is to tackle.
would players be willing to hang around a year for a fix when something else a couple down on their list might be do able in a couple of months.. I do feel that some more direct feedback on setting this would be very valuable.
Im not suggesting we give people a date for a fix just the ability to go “ok this is a big issue itll take time” or “this is fairly low hanging fruit”
If that makes sense
We are continuing to look for active players interested in WvW to join our ranks. Running raids in wvw most nights as well as PvE guild missions and other shenanigans.
If you are looking for something more than the zerg get in touch
Aw theres so much animosity and hassle here. The score is largely irrelevant at the moment we’re still turning out and still having a great time fighting in the EU time zone. We wouldn’t have had such a good time last night if SoR had all but given up.
The fights are still there to be had, honest
thanks everyone for turning out in SoS BL last night and tonight
Im seeing a bit of to and fro about the matchup but just take each fight as it comes even though the score has a massive defect right now we still had a great time over the weekend and despite being beaten in ppt sat night still ended up with some great fights in smc.
Every fights different and it only stops being fun when people give up.
had a great few hours out on SoS BL this afternoon ended up tagging for the first time since aftl moved t sor. thanks to peeps for following was a good run lots of bags xD
That forum is like a burning anuss
1. ZDs came to NA to avoid queue in EU
2. We were 15 at best 20 on EU during our prime with 30-40 in queue including 1-2 RL
3. Core WvW players went to slack due to unreal timers on queues
4. No server but BG approached us prior League and invited us in a respectful manner to join their ranks
5. We did not plan to move before the league starts but the Arena’s Net reality adjusted our plans
6. Core ZDs guild which consists of 300 players is on SFR, only WvW department transferred to BG
7. We came to NA BG for a minmum of 8 weeks
8. We play for fun & for server win
9. We never dodge fights
10. Dear IRON, we don’t have to whisper you for fights nor we will since you are the one map jumping from us whole evening, if you want to fight come and fight in game not on the forums.
11. We are thrilled and looking forward to have fun with BULL which is one of greatest enemies we had before
12. IF you have any bloody questions feel free to ask ingame since we are bit busy fighting rather then pouring gasoline on others kitten s at forums
welcome guys heres hoping you bring a good fight.
Nice thing is the EU prime time has been stacking up quite nicely recently its generally pretty evenly balanced.
We can go in and roll around as part of a big grp or peel off and still find decent fights that dont involve us being stomped by a massive zerg either way
As a side note get an idea of what you are coming into, Monday nights highlights from our raid wvw are up
you’ll enjoy yourselves.
Hi. Althugh I can’t see what server you are on I do see you are looking for a guild
I am an officer and community lead for Afterlife Gaming
We are a pvp based guild and community spanning a few games including aion wow and gw2.
We have been around since 2009 where we formed in Aion on Telemachus and have had significant success in mmos since.
As an experienced guild we have a good number of well skilled players and run regular events every night of the week in game and within our community.
We use teamspeak for comms and expect users to use this.
We run on SoR Server which allows us to enter WvW nightly as a guild with little to no queuing time and co ordinate with our allies effectively. You will see us rolling around Sanctum of Rall in EU prime time.
In return we will provide an active community, wvw raids every night with experienced raid leads and well established allies.
Rather than spam any further I’ll let the following do the rest of the talking

We are continuing to recruit for our adventures in the NA tiers. If you are looking to be the first into battle let take a look.
great wee night last night in SoR BL looks like we’re not going to get much sleep this week
great night last night, first little stint since AFTL moved to SoR that I’ve had a chance to tag up ty everyone that followed.
Props to MErC particularly who seemed to be everywhere on SoR BL that I hit… dam scouts
and nice to see RK despite them running all over the top of us
We have now moved to Sanctum of Rall.
In the NA we look forward to finding lots of new friends, some old ones and new challenges in game.
Thank you Desolation for hosting us for our time there and look out NA we are coming for you
we will still be out fighting in Desolation despite all these problems and though we spent most of the night on Monday out manoeuvring the zerg, throwing people to attack and defend the wrong fort we still got a fair bit done as a recap of monday night on Deso BL shows… I think we were outmanned most of the night crazy times.
just going through the footage at the moment
might keep this screeny for a bit
good night thanks everyone for coming out
Just a quick one. Thanks to dvg and good luck guys.
Also thanks to everyone on deso bl last night. It was short butsweet xD
Zenj ty for coming out and playing last night. Miss playing with vii and it was a very big kick to see deso bl in such dire straights… Anyway ty all the deso players who formed up and helped the cause last night. It was a tough tough fight
With wvw seasons coming we are continuing to recruit WvW players to help Afterlife carry on making a real impact in our endeavours.
If you haven’t checked us out please do so and drop by our youtube channel to see us in action at http://www.youtube.com/user/AfterlifeLegion
Ive had decent fights this week irrespective of the score. Loving stuff so far.. Second law… just guys.. I took the target off my back :P
anyhow bit slow off the mark with this but friday nights highlights as an example of the week so far good night good times
bit late but finally done a few highlights from Monday night on Deso Borderland…. man that abaddon zerg… just… wow!
Thanks to everyone who turned out I’m told yesterday was a bag fest too
Thanks everyone who turned out from all sides this week it’s been fun
props to ECL as always TEQ and CON love to fight you peeps as always
A little taster of wed nights raid I just threw together… it has been interesting
thanks to everyone that turned out last night on Desolation borderlands. Despite being out manned repeatedly all night we still had some people in Desolation willing to step up and hold the line. We really fared immeasurable pressure from both sfr and viz all night it wasn’t pretty
props to zbs very tight raid
and just as somebody says a small team can change the course of a map… I’m finally finished pulling together Monday nights WvW raid video
We pretty much ran untagged as a 10 man group on Deso Bl on monday and used that mobility do do loads from pull the enemy zerg around, throw distractions, flip camps and co ordinate ninja takes on keeps. While those of you getting rolled over by large groups might not enjoy that understand playing tactically and your group can 100% have an impact
was a fairly low numbers game o deso orderlands tonight but till even with a wee 10 man group the AFTL peeps still managed to nick bay back on our own tonight
good times… sometimes it pays to be sneaky
and frankly overall I think Desos had noting but good things from these matchups with piken its really forced the community into activity and different strategy outside of take and hole up
Hi Bry, Afterlife are continuing to recruit for new active players
Our recruitment thread is here so you can see if we fit your requirements
I suspect as we are a heavily focused pvp/wvw guild you’ll probably want to look for something a bit more all round from your post. If y;ou do I’d recommend having a look at http://www.desospeak.com/ to see if anyone fits
finally got 15 minutes to throw together some of the highlights from monday night on deso borderland if anyone that was there wants to take a look
excuse the the low quality sony vegas kept throwing a fit
You guys on Deso must have had it bad all those weeks vs Vizunah if that was fun. Tonight was a snorefest for us on your BL. I don’t think we had one open field fight the whole night. Our raid time consisted mostly of Ramming and Trebbing.
Thankfully we have some GvG’s this week to guarantee action.
Mate seriously its no joke when I say we were literally fighting a 70 ball. In any map and t3 forts all over pretty much with us time zone coverage in decent numbers with viz. It degraded the servers will to fight and for the 3 odd 10 – 15 man guild raids we had in the bl this was the most enemy activity we’ve had in a long time.
Viz used to zerg in defend on mass and night cap so open field wasn’t an option. That reflects the fact you v won’t get many gvg from Deso as the guild numbers are generally not in the 20-40 man raid area due to boredom of being in that matchup for so long
Hey guys was fantastic to see a lot of Afterlifes old friends from Piken this week on reset. I’ll be seeing you again tonight on deso BL
Loving this week
+1
yo screen, axle and all the good people from aftl. big , warm Hi

Hey guys was fantastic to see a lot of Afterlifes old friends from Piken this week on reset. I’ll be seeing you again tonight on deso BL
Loving this week
We are continuing to recruit for wvw. If you are the first into a fight and the last out yu could find your match in Afterlife.
and ty geno
thanks to everyone that joined deso borderlands tonight… and ty to votf for the fights love playing you guys even if you decimate a BL just to troll me :P
Hey Hugh great to see the wuvwu team live streaming.
In terms of basics. New players see the zerg all the time its really off putting. What can a lonely be player get to do in wvw if they don’t have a big old team to run with.
What is the point? I’m new to wvw and dont know where to go. What wvw map should I go to?
Do all these forts give the same points?
What other stuff do I get from wvw… We’ve all seen the karma train video
What’s the blue icon on the map?
Should I follow the zerg? I find it kind of off putting what else can I do with my friend?
So I gave this siege blueprint… Why is the arrow cart doing nothing to this wall? How do I use siege?
What’s the deal with upgrades?
What the heck are traps?
How do the swords work what do they mean?
OK I am finished trying to cover new player questions I’ve been asked while commanding…
Now Hugh what’s the craziest idea you’ve ever had or heard for wvw ?
