they sold infinite continue coins for the adventure box then removed adventure box from the game. who knows if / when itll be back maybe youll get the airship back the next time LA is attacked, but theres no guarantee its permanent.

this is why im asking if they are turning off spvp and WvW, because you have an infinite number of defenders entering from the mists/other cities bringing supplies, a siege isnt realistic as you cannot trap people in the city and deny them resources (the point of a siege)
do sPvP and WvW players care about PvE? I didn’t think they did., at least so they keep telling us! :p

We should hope that lessons learned from previous Living Story patches will be clearly visible. It’s not worth worrying about until the patch hits. I hope it’s been well planned and implemented by now.
thing is we have lag now, before the patch has even hit, and from what I’ve seen they haven’t learned much from previous story patches or even other games, unless of course they are just choosing to make the same mistakes over and over again.

i think a better option would be to let gifts of exploration be used in more recipies, ie a cape thats a map of tyria,

tbh i think they are driving inflation up to increase the gem to gold conversion rate so that just buying them outright will be more affordable to more people the current cost of a legendary is approximately $525 (2500 gold from gems) and falling

I’m not really sure why people are choosing this to complain about compared to say:
the crippling diminishing returns and abysmal drop rates for trying to farm anything that even looks like T6.
or that there are people who have literally just converted cash to gems to gold to buy a legendary outright,
if you look at the design decisions, its always more grind, more gold focused to promote people buying gold.
they aren’t going to stop the monetization train now, i think this is the patch when you can just pay for spvp as glory is gone, just think about that, they are changing the currency you earn through participating and wining to the one you can buy with your credit card.
that’s the direction of the game, you wont get them to change the pick. at best you will get additions to the others that yield azurite or pristine spores and similar for all the old event items that become unobtainable.

Im not really sure why people are complaining about difficulty, none of the mechanics are inherently difficult or complex.
The problem is organization. Anet has decided to implement open world raids and taken the annoying part and made it worse
If you wipe in a raid you retry when everyone is alive again not wait 2h
If you have the people for a raid you can start it whenever you want not when Anet says or the servers align to magically provide the 100 people during peak and no other time
In a raid you can choose who goes and are sure you are all ready before starting
In a raid you are sure everyone is the right level and is interested in the activity
Given the above you can also get rid of anyone who is deliberately failing to troll others

That said, the gem shop in GW2 is still relatively mild compared to the real cash shop games. Practically only serious problem it has is those RNG boxes.
given one of the main sells of the gem shop is gold which they are currently promoting as the primary currency of the game (removing glory etc) that will buy you anything and adding more grind and inflation as they go which you can bypass with some IRL cash id say rng boxes are a symptom and not the main problem

Technically you can do lvl 50 Fractals without ever joining a fractal over lvl 1,, and the infusions can be bought on the TP.

using this type of psychological manipulation is just cheap and lazy development, i think everyone would rather you implemented an engaging game play experience through deeper immersion
i think im just going to ignore you guys on the reason for ascended gear as you seem to contradict yourselves whenever you talk about it, just re-balance it to be on par with exotic and have some other functionality and remove agony, maybe use infusion slots for appearance customization ie purchase fire infusion from gem store apply to Armour get flamekissed effect and so on.
there is a reason resist gating was removed from other mmos the better part of a decade ago, it’s ridiculous that you seem to have learned nothing from other mmos or even the original guild wars. where difficulty increases were not tied to stat increases or resistances such as Frostmaw Burrows where you started with fewer wurm bosses and as you went deeper you fought more at the same time and were higher levels or came in larger groups with multiple healers.
in terms of vertical progression guild wars actually did it well, with title tracks ( why cant i progress towards sweet tooth or party animal or drunkard in this game?) any title based skill was usually effective enough with the progression gained through completing the story, without having to grind further. atm the only good vertical progression in this game is ranks which you were going to remove… it seems theres a massive disconnect going on where you cant even grasp basic elements of which parts of the game design are good and which aren’t, so ill make it simple
grinds are fine so long as they are optional; BIS isn’t optional for competitive content
in terms of games with good horizontal progression im going to actually have to go with WoW, collecting mounts/ pets/ appearances/ dungeon specific items/ toys available from crafting or quests, new crafting professions/ classes it implemented a lot of horizontal progression over time in addition to the gear tread mill which also gave you visually distinct item procs, which is something this game could do with more of
in comparison this game has gone from initially being fairly horizontal to being narrowly vertical you are locked into one build on one character, better hope you dont get hit with a balance patch that ruins your build and means another 6+ months to re-gear with no guarantee it wont happen again.
endgame has devolved into grind the living world content before its gone then farm gold as that’s now the games major currency and only way to to mitigate the crippling diminishing returns and rng to farm ascended materials so you can craft bis if you want to be competitive or dont play those areas of the game, to an extent it feels like your design is based mainly around monetization ie removing non gold currencies so everything can be bought by converting gems to gold and focusing your art time on skins for the store.
finally, how are new players meant to compete given the time gating required by the current vertical progression, they are basically free kills in wvw till they hit 80 and gear up and wvw rank up, because scaling sucks atm, are you going to give out free boosts so they can catch up? nerf requirements so its easier for them to catch up? how are you going to sustain this long term? more progress resets? you seem to be doing that more frequently these days.
ps. will jewlecrafting ever be relevant again, it obsolete atm given the ease of obtaining ascended jewlery and artifice making infusions, when will we see this?

arena net: fixing bad decisions with bad decisions
while its good that the initiative continues and you hopefully learn things from it, one of the major issues is that you wont talk about future plans, this creates the issue of having you go off and develop things and have no direct feedback on them till they are ready to launch and cannot be changed, do you really want another 200+ page thread of wild speculation and distress because you announce a new feature/ direction days before its patched in?
we need to know about things at a point where our feedback can still make a difference in how its implemented or have it scrapped and reiterated. We also need to have an idea of long term plans ie what are you doing once all the ascended gear is out? should we expect a level cap increase, will achievements ever be meaningful? etc.
So that we can in good time contribute to the development of the systems/ design
otherwise the feedback is meaningless as you will thank us for it say you have taken it on board and we will likely not see any indication of how it has been integrated into the decision making process
for this to be successful the last part is really important, we need to see it making a difference, otherwise whats the point, you may as well continue saying “thanks for feedback we will ignore it and are doing X anyway”
I would love to see ascended gear changed in the following way:
1. Same stats as exotic, only difference is they have two upgrade slots (one for infusions, one for runes).
2. Defensive and offensive infusions removed from the game (materials / tokens refunded).
3. Idiotic number-grind mechanic (agony) removed from the game.
4. New infusions introduced that simply add a visual effect to the weapon or armour they are placed on (ex., fire / lightning / poison / smoke / frost / blood / etc.)
I think any competent player would gladly trade the slight stat advantage that ascended gear has (which you don’t really need, if you know how to play – and which just makes it harder for the developers to balance the game content) for the ability to customize the visual effects on his or her gear.

you can link to external polls, most of those i have seen are majority in favor of the removal of ascended (someone will probably argue selection bias)
if this^ happened id likely return to making gem purchases, iirc correctly i spent a few times the cost of the CE in the months before lost shores (some was beta purchases) from which point i no longer funded the development in a direction that’s contrary to the reason i bought the game.
ascended was a terrible knee jerk reaction to the mmo tourist crowd that buy every new mmo in the hopes its the game they have become jaded with but better and then leave after the first month or two when they realize its not, and it wont magically change to be so
its supposed to fill a void that doesn’t exist, exotics were meant to be easy to obtain by design, with better looking ones like Volcanus or the anomaly or infinite light harder so that you grind for the prestige of looking awesome.
as it stands they are trying to use it to compensate for the lack of actual achievements. look at any achievement and 9/10 times you haven’t achieved anything you have grinded X Y times till you meet the criteria this is a far cry from proper achievements like fighting two bosses at once or getting a title that means something epic.
as it is i no longer WvW as i used to get through 1v1 and 1v2 fights with as little as 200 hp or less before ascended so don’t say the stats don’t make a difference. i refuse to WvW till ascended is removed or it becomes a part of SPvP and they sort out ranks
in PvE it does actually make a difference as loot allocation is based on dmg % contribution, if you have enough people hitting something and they are wearing ascended and you are not you wont get loot as your % will be below the cutoff, you could say it doesn’t matter but it feeds into the economy and inflation affecting your ability to buy things you need/want.

They never reset achievement points…all points I earned were still there and they GAVE me something…achievement chests for even past achievement points earned before the rewards came in.
They didn’t reset MF, they changed it…you could re-pick stats on items that were affected, and they GAVE you 50% MF for all your characters (account-wide) with the ability to raise it for ALL your characters….this was probably the best update for people who run ALTS (I started running alts after this update since my MF gear wasn’t limited to a single character anymore)….not to mention not having to carry yet another set of gear on my main! I was a little upset at first about the loss of my 300% MF on my one character, but having it spread account-wide was actually a blessing…I can now play any character in optimized gear and still get the same loot.
you may not have been reset personally but they DID reset achievement points you had players with around 20k+ points through repeatable things like agent of entropy reset down to 3k because of the changes they were making to the system and leaderboards
in regards to MF i have no idea where you are pulling 50% from, there was some luck essence gifted to every player , even those without any MF that if used right at the start would get you 20%, but given the scaling of input needed to get to higher percentages it wont even give you 1% when used later.
i have every class at 80, every tangible reward in the game is ONCE PER ACCOUNT PER DAY, combined with the grind to get BIS which is time gated in terms of months for one build on one character. meaning by design its kind of pointless to focus on more than one character at endgame if your interested in playing competitively.
if your just doing world completion or something you may like that you now get a little extra MF on all characters, but getting a partial MF set before the changes and eating some food would get you a similar amount to what many players are stuck with now

We feel like our fractals dungeon is the perfect fit for this kind of “historical” experience, similar to the way the BMP worked in Gw1. Even better, it already exists and has explanations behind why these slices of time are available to discover and experience within.

this is being requested because people specifically do not want to have to go into fractals to experience it, i have 0 desire to run in and out of an instance for 30+ min hoping this time ill randomly get the living story fractal i want, i further have 0 desire to participate in the VP grind fest associated with fractals. i didn’t have to go into fractals to do the content originally, i shouldn’t have to now.
i doubt you are implementing hero’s/henchmen making the living story releases that were solo-able originally forced group now
just make the npc a copy of Nick Sandford and have him travel and offer experiences relevant to the zone he is in at that time this has the added bonus of getting people back into the dead zones around the world so it appears more “living”

does anyone have any idea how the next level of the box rewards will play out, as we are now through all the normal mode skins ergo playing normal mode rewards no skins as they were all used in the last two releases.
extrapolating further there will also be no rewards for clearing trib 1 and 2 either as they were all part of the previous release
we will still be able to get red and purple skins for w3 and 4 trib , but what about the rest?
best i can think of is they do something like use the actual box items like the candle etc as new skins and add back things like obsidian shards.
very much this, right now most dynamic events are extremely shallow with simple win/lose states with the same event replaying a few minutes later if you don’t progress the chain further if its part of a chain. you could really use the living story to expand on this say for example the centaurs are pushed back in harathi, rather than lasting 10-20 min a new foe steps into the power vacuum and the DEs change those already in progress are modified ie escorts where at point x you are attacked by centaurs, you are instead attacked by aetherblade and so on, taking this a step further you could also introduce a whole new set of hearts, this lasts till the new foe is defeated or perhaps the centaurs launch an offensive and battle them
in regards to pacing and plot, the scarlet plot may have an amazing ending that fully explains everything and fleshes out her character, but there’s no guarantee ill be playing for it, if i miss those two weeks due to having a life or not wanting to play, shes still a one dimensional character and nothing is explained to me, i skipped most of lost shores due to the LA invasions being a buggy laggy mess and every previous instance of "you really don’t want to miss it " being a cut scene you could catch on youtube, obviously after the fact i was a bit miffed it rained precursors, but going there for secret of southsun i had no idea who canach was, to me he was just a random sylvari, who liked mines, i needed to kill to get a backpack. he wasn’t really explained in that release, it was assumed you’d met him previously, some of my friends only started playing during that release and didn’t really know what was going on as i rushed them around to get the meta.
in my opinion NOTHING should be unobtainable because you missed an event, make it harder to get after the event like the new healing skill but still available, so if people want to put in the extra effort they can.
So while I think it’s entirely possible that we can implement such a feature we are limited in how much historical text we can display. But if players are able to “fill in the gaps” somehow, then I think they’ll get what they need out of it. I wish I could say more because I think our current designs are pretty exciting, but we’re just not ready to discuss them in detail just yet.
Regarding GW1 lore in the game, I think it’d be really compelling to have in-game books or some other delivery device to allow players to immerse themselves in Tyria’s history.
don’t have scrolling text actually make them replayable, introduce THE MINSTREL or similar, have him wander tyria a different zone each week (ie nicholas sandford), and by talking to him you can request an epic tale of battles past, this would trigger a short piece of VO and possibly a cut scene where your sitting by a fire as he narrates imagining the events where he introduces the content and then the player is placed into an instance where they can actually play through it, and watch relevant cut-scenes etc and if you request the same tale enough times he may reward you with a memento ie that storys meta (assuming you clear the requirements through replaying the events) some aspects can be tweaked such as grindy click x n00 times is reduced to n0 and the narrator chimes in “<name> finally finished < activity (n)> while it was only <n> it felt as though <s/he> had been at it much longer and done it many more times”
this does two things
it has players move around the world a bit more to find him, he may also ask for zone specific materials as a price for his tales or only tell zone specific tales.
it saves on new content you have to make, as essentially other than the narration you are replaying an instance of the old content with minor tweaks.
In regards to books existing books can be expanded ie koss on koss, Abaddon: The Secret Truths and so on in regards to books that are backpacks add a read option to the right click menu.
What rewards would you like to see from rewards? Would they be different when you’re leveling up than when you’re level 80? What would motivate you to want to go around the world playing as many different events as possible, rather than the same 4-5 over and over again?
Some of the fun challenges we are currently solving, but it’s great to hear peoples thoughts on this subject as well.
i would like to see things like collectables ie toys/ minipets / tonics consumable/ permanent bundles different ones for each zone or themed per faction so for example Kryta areas could reward seraph/ centaur minis, these could be the currently existing ones or new ones, southsun could have those that were around for the living world events back and so on.
WOW does this really well with different areas having different mount/ pet vendors, some requiring certain quest completion or faction standing or crafting or as rng drops, people today still farm Strathholme for the mount 7 years on to a certain extent you have this in the game with some karma vendors giving nice themed rewards, but this is let down by the fact that i cant transmute my pet rock onto a lvl 80 trinket or that the quaggan offering tonics is behind an event chain with a buggy champion you need to kill

I think there’s some confusion here – the PvP Team is an entirely separate entity from the Skills and Balance Team.
The PvP Team’s main focus is improving the infrastructure of PvP – meaning features, rewards, etc.
The teams do often consult each other on various ideas, but they have separate projects.

from where im sitting it doesn’t seem much, pve rewards better spvp rewards through achievement chests and other than:
a few new maps
variants on previous game types
matchmaking tweaks
custom arenas for gems
leaderboards
i don’t see that you’ve done anything, this may be due to my missing announcements or whatever, but feel free to update us.
other than discussing things and “looking at reward balancing” which seems to be a go to phrase for devs when questioned about anything what are you doing atm to make us want to play spvp and make it fun/ interesting.
i voted for 0-5 min as a personal rule of thumb i shouldn’t be able to fit a match in in the time im waiting in que id rather just play and then hope i get a better match next map.
obviously there are still issues with for example joining towards the end of a match where you cant actually impact play before it ends, perhaps consider implementing a lockout so players cant join if there is very little time left in regards to auto balancing, however that has implications in regard to things like boosters, if you pay for a glory booster and spend 30 min in que its not ideal,
ive had unbalanced matches where ive built up a solid lead and then been moved to the other team, and had to fight against my own effort to get a victory. while its fun, i wouldn’t say no to a title track or something to mark the added effort that takes.
Given the state of achievements atm im going to go with NO do X n times isnt an achievement its boring lazy design, and while there are some good posts here about possible achieves, many suggestions follow the pattern of repeat this n times.
there are still games where to get achievements you actually have to achieve something, where the requirements are varied and interesting and in some cases difficult.
achievements like those would be welcome, but if the last year has told me anything its Anet doesn’t do that kind of design.
