Class 1 Magic Rift (Current Events)

I’ve been trying to find one a Class 1 Magic Rift for 6+ months, spending a total of at least 20 hours looking for one of them in Field of Ruin near Gillscale Pond , and I’ve seen only one (someone jumped into it before me). I have followed what various guides say I should do and nothing works. Is this Current Event chain broken or has it been disabled?
If not, what should I be doing?

This has been, by far, the most frustrating thing I’ve encountered in GW2. This brings back memories of the stupid-long camps from back in the days of EverQuest.

Blocking dps meters

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Shostie.6435

Shostie.6435

The point is that people don’t need a DPS meter to be single-minded about “meta or bust.” At least with a DPS meter, people are using an objective measure of the damage done, even if they are still being subjective about how much that number matters.

I’ve never really run dungeons for this reason. Before the expansion, most dungeon groups in LFG (as far as I could tell) specified that they were looking for a particular profession/build. I almost never even tried to run dungeons because I simply didn’t want to deal with the “meta or bust” crowd.

Now that there are some viable DPS meters, I’m personally more confident joining PUGs because I know, thanks to data, that I’m able to carry my own weight. I don’t need to run a meta build to be viable, and I can prove it.

This is why I don’t understand people who complain about DPS meters. Sure, they could have been used to discriminate, but people already did that. Instead, I used DPS meters to improve my play to the point that I don’t need to worry about discrimination. And as someone else mentioned, more than a few people in the “meta or bust” crowd aren’t nearly as good as they think they are. Just because you’re running a meta build doesn’t mean you have any idea how to play it.

Weapons for mostly Fracs?

How does it not make sense? It’s the definition and it’s what each of those stats do, you’re pretty wrong.

You still fail to get the actual context of what those stats do. Slavishly sticking to the wiki definitions doesn’t cut it.

A typical full berserker guardian will have (all values rounded) roughly 13,000 HP and 2250 armor. Armor scales in a way that doubling it reduces direct damage taken by 50%. Hence, to increase your survivability against direct damage by 100%, you can either double your HP or double your armor. Doing so requires 1300 vitality or 2250 toughness, respectively. Observation: vitality is much cheaper for this purpose, because guardian is a low-HP class.

Now toughness has one innate advantage in case of direct damage: it simply reduces damage taken, therefore lowering the amount of healing needed to get back to full health. Since condition damage usually does not put up that much pressure in fractals, the weakness of toughness is less relevant there. That would, in theory, probably balance out the “cheaper” price tag of vitality if you are healing-restricted.

However, for toughness to become superior, you actually need to be restricted by the amount of healing which is available over a long period of time. In my fractal experience, that happens rather rarely and most nasty situations could also be overcome by a larger health pool. As long as you can heal the damage taken, it doesn’t matter whether you take less damage or have a higher buffer to take it. That is why vitality a) does help against direct damage in content like fractals and is b) surprisingly efficient.

Additionally, there is one very practical reason for marauder stats, if berserker is too squishy for someone: there simply is no equivalent with toughness instead of vitality. All toughness-based stat combinations will either yield substantially reduced offensive stats for the same defense or vice versa.

Well, what I see here is a lot of assumptions made from personal experience and a derailed conversation from what OP is asking. If someone wants to run Marauder I couldn’t care less, will they be optimal? No. Will they still down and make his party down due longer fights? Probably. But if in your experience that works, as I said before I couldn’t care less. Yes it’s probably cheaper to build vitality than toughness but that does not change the fact that toughness negates direct damage while vitality denies condition damage, sorry but it is what it is even if you want/need to justify using marauder. Ever thought that maybe if you survived longer running FotM with Marauder it’s because Agony has a lower impact since you have more vitality to withstand it?

Vitality does not “deny” condition damage. Vitality does not “deny” or reduce any incoming damage. It simply increases the size of your health pool so you can sustain more damage before being downed. This obviously applies to both direct and condition damage.

What's Missing from Material Storage?

Please remember that this is “Material Storage”. Not “Stuff I Don’t Want To Spend Bank Slots On Storage”. Items that are not used in crafting or mystic forge recipes are VERY unlikely to be chosen. Sigils, Runes, Tomes of Knowledge, Boosters, etc are all not going to be chosen to add.

EDIT: That said, I am still very seriously considering things like Chak Eggs, Blood Rubies, and Petrified Wood.

I’d like to have slots for sigils/runes/boosters/etc, but not because I don’t want to spend money on bank slots. It’s the functionality and clean organization of material storage that I want. Let me pay for bank slots that sort sigils/runes/boosters/etc, and allow me to deposit them like other materials, and I would be a happy camper. Then I could spend more time actually playing the game and less time organizing my bank slots.

I’ve started playing through Living World Season 2 on a new character in the last couple days and I’ve noticed that not only do you get no XP or loot from mobs, you sometimes don’t even get XP for completing a story chapter. For some steps the mastery XP bar is blank like it is in the Mad King’s Labyrinth. For some steps, it’s not. When the mastery XP bar is blank, you don’t even get the XP for completing the story. Stupid.

The only thing that I will admit to is that sometimes the amount of damage seem a bit over-tuned. In my opinion it would be better to be able to take two or three more hits before you die. Keep the mechanics though. keep in mind I am saying this while still in full berserker gear. And I have seen builds that have already adapted that generate a lot more toughness while only losing 300-400 power.

I like the damage output because it forces people to really consider using something other than berserker gear. I’ve been running in almost full berserker gear so far, and I’ve paid the price. I’m glad that I now have a legitimate reason to run something other than berserker, besides doing something “different”. The only reason I’m not running another stat set yet is because I haven’t decided which stat set to use.

Overall I love the expansion. The zones are beautiful and the content is engaging. The story presentation is much better than in the original personal story, but the dialogue is still too cheesy, IMO. Get better writers and voice actors. Hire some of the people who work on the Witcher series or something.

I personally like the fact that masteries are difficult to obtain. I don’t feel the same way about the the elite specs. I think it was a poor design decision to lock masteries AND elite specs behind difficult content. I can’t even find many of the hero points without using a web guide, much less defeat the challenge when I finally manage to get there (when it’s a champion spawn).

My biggest gripe is the fact that you can’t earn HoT mastery experience in Central Tyria. I’m not one of those people who is exploiting CoF to grind Tyria masteries. I haven’t done that, at all. I just don’t like the fact that I’m funneled into HoT if I want to earn mastery experience, and vice versa…I’d like to be able to work on legendary mastery tracks while in HoT.

And it’s coming back anyway, so it’s not like you can’t get it.

Maybe they did, but they also managed to anger a bunch of their players. Does the extra sales they may or may not have made make up for the loss of good will among the players they deliberately frustrated?

All the 1-day sales this week are apparently “previews” of items which will be made available again (and I’d imagine for longer periods of time) in the future. This is just some sort of very limited thing for people to get it before others.

Exclusivity, even limited-time exclusivity, to drive sales, I guess. I think its rather silly myself, but I know there are plenty of people who play games that thrive on it.

I don’t usually pay attention to this stuff, but this one happened to catch my attention. They did an awesome job of making me not want to pay attention in the future. If you want to expand your (gem buying) customer base, this is not how to do it.

I rarely purchase anything from the gem store, but the black feather wing backpack was something I was actually going to get. I look for it in the Gem Store tonight and don’t see it, so I come here and learn that it was only available for 24 hours. Smart move, Arenanet, making it so willing customers can’t actually give you money (I know I could still purchase gems, but I won’t until I actually see something for sale that I want.). Whoever came up with this idea is a financial genius. He/she must have gone to Harvard Business School to learn how to NOT make money.

All Arenanet has managed to do is annoy me and put me in a spiteful frame of mind where I will spend even less money on the gem store. Good job.

Daily Event Completer...

I can accept ANET’s thinking behind this achievment, trying to get players to go to different zones (assuming that is their thinking). That’s not a bad idea. But this implementation is poor, IMO. There must be a better way of doing this. As it is currently implemented, all it seems to accomplish is frustrating me and putting me into a bad mood. It has too much in common with driving in rush hour traffic for my taste.

The best way to complete this daily is to waypoint around the map as people shout out events in map chat. I’m sure some people like this gameplay, but for me it is unfulfilling and I don’t think this is what ANET intended. You’re not experiencing the zone. You’re not paying attention to the environment, at all. You’re just clicking waypoints to stick with a zerg. I don’t participate in this play style as I find it defeating the purpose of the game as I’ve defined it for myself.

The other option is to try to play the zone as you normally would, running around and completing events as you come across them. The problem with this is that, more often than not, the events you encounter are completed before you’re able to participate, due to the inflated player population. This is incredibly frustrating because this doesn’t happen in a “normal” zone (normal defined as a zone that doesn’t have its population inflated due to a daily).

I don’t know what the solution is to this “problem” or if this is even a “problem” for other people, but I despise this achievement. When it’s in places like the Silverwastes, the zone gameplay doesn’t really change. But when it’s in low and mid-level zones, gameplay changes drastically. Maybe, making it region specific rather than zone specific would help? Or maybe I’m an outlier and everyone else loves this type of gameplay.

This mob has a ridiculous amount of HP now. It used to be that you could solo it in a minute or so (I’ve completed the event dozens of times). Now you’re lucky if you can even get the HP bar to drop one pixel in a minute. It’s seems like its HP was multiplied by 100 or 1000. It’s not a champion. I don’t think it’s even a veteran (I could be remembering wrong). It’s just a strong “normal” mob for a mundane, (formerly) soloable event that is now virtually unkillable. It might technically be killable, but it would take far longer than I believe is intended for this event.

Trait unlocking is the first thing I’ve experienced in this game that has actually made me angry. And I’m not talking about the concept, but the execution. Putting traits behind events on long timers was an incredibly stupid design decision. The chest in the Straits of Devastation is fine. The other events are horrible. I’ve been trying to do these events for days, and they’re never active when I’m online. I’ve wasted too many hours trying to complete this and it’s making me hate the game.

Shostie, I completely agree with you. I hope that game designers will read this topic very carefully and they realize that this “traits update” is for lots of people very frustrating. I am older casual player with family and two children and lots of work. Game is for me place for fun and relaxation and not for hunting achievements and waiting hours for triggering some event. This update definitively destroy my motivation to play with new alts and experiment with different builds. I realize that younger hardcore players will not have problems with this changes, but people like me are disgust and that is a real pity. From the early beginning of this game I appreciated that this game is friendly to casual players and you don’t have to be “no-real-life-person” to enjoy it. In past I appreciated freedom and lots of opportunities what to do. This model will force players to uniformity and making bigger differences between casual and hardcore players.

Dear designers I like your work and I really enjoy the game but this form of unlocking traits is mistake. Please consider change in the next update.

I like hunting down achievements. I just don’t like waiting and waiting and waiting for a spawn to complete something like this. This goes against their original design philosophy.

obtaining new traits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Shostie.6435

So the new trait system seemed like a good idea at first until i started doing the events:
karka – spawning 3 times per day —- ok
grenth – can defend or take temple —- ok
find treasure underwater in straights of devastation — ok
lyssa and arah — skucks
reason being, when the temple is secured the event has to FAIL!!!!
now i was waiting for arah to start and the defend event came up the majority of us wanted it to fail to claim it for the trait where as a few other players wanted to defend. Bottom line they defended it now have to wait a very long time for event to come up again and they will likely be people who will try to defend.
Suggestion- make defend events for all temples give credit that way everyone is happy

You’re fortunate to actually be able to complete any of these events. I’ve been trying to complete Grenth for days. Every time I’m online and in that area, the event is not running. I’ve even camped my character at the Grenth waypoint, logging in every 10-15 minutes to try to kill the priest. That didn’t work either. It looks like my only option is to log on and sit at my computer waiting for 100+ minutes to make sure I don’t miss killing the priest. But that’s not fun. That’s not a game. That’s work.

I like the idea of having to acquire traits out in the world (I had no problem with the chest trait). I do NOT like the idea of that stuff being on a long timer. That was a HORRIBLE design decision.

It’s not just handicapped players who want gamepad support. After spending hours sitting at a desk at work, I don’t really look forward to sitting at a desk when I get home. I’d just like to be able to play on my couch rather than my desk sometimes.

Xpadder and other programs are nice, but they’re not nearly as good as native controller support. Things like navigating the UI and placing AOE circles are difficult to do with third-party programs. I’d love to see a solution similar to how the Knights of Amalur handles controllers. They basically have two interfaces overlapping, but only one is active at a time. If you hit a button on your mouse or keyboard, that interface takes over. If you hit a button on your controller, that interface takes over. It’s really well done. I know there are issues of there not being enough buttons/less precision, etc, when it comes to GW2, but those are issues I can deal with. Not being able to navigate the interface isn’t.

Mesmer, around level 60. You’re trying to do these before you’re level 40? That’s your problem. You can’t do most dungeons at that level, either. There’s lots of content that is out of your range if you’re not level 40 yet. All the of dungeons, except AC (so not being able to do something because of your level is nothing new). You can’t expect to do elite level stuff with only 10 trait points per line and missing most of your skills. You have a shell of a character.

It’s good for those that want the challenge I agree… I also like the challenge but it’s a lot harder for me with hardly any traits.

It’s unrealistic for you to expect to be able to do every single thing in a game like this. That may sound harsh, but it’s the truth. I’ve missed out on a lot of living story achievements because I took a break from the game for a while, and I could feel left out if I dwelled on that, but I don’t. I made a choice to not play during those months. You’ve also made a choice, to not level a character up to 80 quickly (you could easily start a new character and get to 80 during this 2-week period).

ArenaNet talked about this, specifically, before. They separated the achievements for this episode of the living story, creating one set for casual players and another for more devoted players. But the one thing I find intolerably frustrating is the long queue. And it’s not just that you can sit there waiting for more than 5 minutes to fight, it’s the you have no idea how long you have to wait until right before your turn. So you can’t afk, alt-tab, or anything else. I’m guessing ArenaNet probably intended for us to watch others fight while we wait, but we’re too far away to really see anything interesting. Shostie, the engine doesn’t render people half the time, and so yes, people are invisible. If you haven’t noticed this, you’re either on an empty server, or not paying attention.

So your argument shifts, now players are only invisible half of the time?

This is only an issue in a few areas of the game. Throughout most of the world, players do not experience this. That said, it’s silly to make a design decision (on something like titles) based upon this undesirable phenomenon. Your argument is a non-starter. There’s not even anything to refute. Using your reasoning, why even have armor graphics? Why have legendary weapons? No one will ever see them.

In the game, in general, nobody can even see you. You’re invisible unless they wait around and hope you show up in a city, and nobody’s paying attention to anyone else in any zone.

Your argument is that players are invisible…okay…I’m sure ArenaNet will totally agree with your position here. Good one.

Is it just me or is Minion AI a little "whack"?

We don’t need bigger nameplates cluttering the already massively cluttered screen just so you can feel special. If you want to feel special, get out of WvW, and go to real PvP where people will see your name, followed by a screen showing exactly which of your skills killed them.

What is this nonsense? I was talking about the game, in general. Take your outrage elsewhere.
