OK I know how it works now!

With concussion bomb (5 stacks, 5 sec) prybar (5 stacks, 5 sec) and static shot (2 stacks, 3 sec) I manage to get 12 stacks of confusion on my opponent.

12 stacks mean roughly 2000 damage per “skilluse” – and that for 5 seconds… if he#s auto attacking me – he will die for sure!

I don’t know how it stacked before – but now it is completely broken!

Thats how its always been, and good players will cleanse/not let em all land. but yes its powerful vs ppl who dont know they have 12 stacks of confusion and spam lol.

That’s definitely not was it used to be!

2047 dmg per skilluse for 5 seconds – in that time usually you will use roughly 5 skills – that already 10k damage!

At least I have never noticed it before – I literally kill people within 5 seconds when properly apply confusion – and I don’t have to do a lot of things to kill them..

It doesn’t matter – just test it out!

My skill (which stacks 5x confusion) says it’ll deal 853 damage (fully traited on condidmg). Having 12 stacks on the enemy it will deal 853/5*12=2047 dmg – per skilluse!

That will last for 5 seconds – and each skill you (as my opponent) use in that time will deal you 2047 damage! That’s not normal – and that’s not what it used to be!!!!

Mesmer can do the same – it’s all about stacking high amount of confusion at the same time on one target!

When I died btw I was Engi aswell – figured every time I died it was because of huge amount of confusion dmg – that’s when I tried it and saw the numbers popping!

Just noticed that everytime i die in a fight the main damage comes from confusion – and it’s very time like 8-12k damage – that is definitely more than it used to be… did ANET change anything to that? I feel like the only thing I need to do now is stacking confusion…

In the leaderboards threat they actually mention… Will be displayed for Top100 first, and when the server can handle the traffic, all…

So for this is a clear – we will be able to see ourselves in a ranking…and probably going up or down in ranking based on your performance.

I know there are a bunch of threats out there complaining about the latest patch. But I see a huge difference between this patch and the older ones…

Finally, we have again something to play for. With a ladder you will actually see a difference after winning / loosing some matches. It was getting completely indifferent for us if we lost or won simply because we couldn’t see any impact. In the old days we had PAIDs with QP which you could strive for (cause we all thought QP would lead to something good) but since then the whole game was just…boring.

Now with a ladder in place – I feel lik the motivation to play is coming back to me.

When I also see the recent posts on Custom Arenas (let’s not talk about possible prices here but on the fact that they will probably come soon) – I have a possibility to practice in a good way to actually help me being better in my gameplay.

I thinks it’s a HUGE step into the right direction!

Now let’s see how the balance will actually look like after some days of giving good thought on possible builds – but what the heck.. I will play the game no matter what.

ANET now please be so kind and fulfil our expectations by making the things good (cause I don’t want a ladder that shows irrelevant stuff) – if it’s even half decent, I think the community will grow again.

People complaining about gems

So arena.net needs to invest serious amounts of development hours into pvp, make everything for free and wish very very hard that the game becomes way more popular so they make money (and this will happen with a mmo that started it’s downfall already and with a part of that mmo played by maybe 10% of the players, or less).

TBH there are two options:

1) Invest in future success and have a chance of a cashback if the game is successful
2) Decide to stop investments and cash in the cow (unfortunately the cow turns out to be a poor dog afterall – and there isn’t really something to cash in)

So it’s basically translates into the two following statements:
1) Invest in future success and have a chance of a cashback if the game is successful (yes it is the same as above :-))
2) Beeing fine with the total sales of the game (and therefore only get tiny bits of more money with Stupid Gem Ideas that are easy to put in)

2 means no more money for ANET (or just a little) – I’d go for 1 even if it’s a risk

Why is everybody thinking everybody should be able to rent a Custom Server? […]
As somebody in this thread already mentioned: 200 gems for one person a day is a lot but if there’s a community or a guild with 15-30 people who want to rent a server it’s 4 gold each for half a month / a month. I think that’s okay.

And what if you are only 5 in a guild – because that is exactly how many you need to play tPvP (or let’s say 6 – one is replacement) – then suddenly it is expensive!

And what if you cannot even afford 4g in a month? There are people out there who just want to play PvP – so getting gold is not an option. Fair enough if ANet supplies the server they surely can be paid. But ~70 EURO/month? Look at other games what server cost like – its less than 50% – in most cases even less than 25%!

And one more thing – if I want to rent a custom arena (for several reasons – I do want to have one) how stupid is it to have to buy that each day – and maybe each day buy gems with real life money??? It would be good to have that on a monthly basis! Or an option to go even longer!

Seeing the result i really feel like this isn’t showing the complete picture.

I think it would be actually good to have the same result splitted in between “players that do mostly hotjoins or SoloQ” and “players that play in a team on a regular basis”

and/or “players that are mostly new to the game” and “players that play spvp for a long time now”

I think in each divisions the picture would looks severly different.

As for:

Class Balance:
In my opinion class balance is different for beginners and enthusiasts. What looks extremely OP was the Warrior at first with his 100blades but when you figure out what he is doing – you know how to prevent the damage.

What I hear from the people I play with is a completely different picture with class balance for enthusiasts. Of course you hear quite a lot that Elementalists are still too strong, but you also hear quite often that Rangers are beeing in certain builds too strong as well.
You would also hear that Mesmers are still viable – but not at all too strong!

That’s give the impression that in hotjoins (that’s what I assume when I read most of the people are not in a team) Mesmer seem to be too strong because either the class is confusing people or the whole mechanic is unknown and therefore not “easy to read”.
Reading that 230 people think the Ranger is the weakest class really scares me – because buffing them would IMO lead to a problem for “enthuasiasts”.

This also give me the following impression:

Elementalist: too strong for most people (620) not as easy as other classes to pick up (57 weakest) – maybe due to attunement switching?

Engineer: 281 think it’s the weakest – it is either weak or very difficult to play well (but seeing that only 12 think it strongest – I guess you could settle for weak)

Guardian: (148 storng, 12 weak) – seems kind of balanced – maybe sometimes a little strong because maybe annoying (not easily killable)

Mesmer: (367 strong, 26 weak) – seems too strong in most parts

Necromancer: (216 weak, 23 strong) – semms to weak in most parts

Ranger: Too difficult for beginners, strong when played well (230 think weak, 59 think strong)

Thief: (195 strong, 60 weak) can be very powerful in a “one-shot matter” thats probably why you would vote strong – is extremely fragile and therefore probably not so easy to play well.

Warrior: (625 weak, 93 strong) seems to be extremely powerful when you don’t know what they are doing, once you know it they seem to be very weak.

That is what I (my personal opinion here) would read out of it.

Maybe balancing for some classes is making them stronger or weaker – but I think even same important is making some classes easier to play with – and others easier to read.

Health overview of whole team

Hi everyone,

me and my team figured that lately there has been an update which changed the way of the health overview on the top left hand side changed.

In the old days you could always see your whole team – which was good, because you could see healthbars and conditions/boons on mates from very far away and then judge if you really want to help over there (or maybe the fight is almost over, so you choose to go for a different node).

With the changes it appears that you can only see members of your party that are in closer range – so when you are on home you cannot see health bars of mates on far – telling them to remove condis/disengage/whatever.

Would love to see the old system back – that helped a lot in teams communication!

Good that they nerfed Engineer – it was time to do so, all Engi builds are waaaay to strong. And really – in hotjoin you just entered and got instagibbed by 5 100nades Engis.

TBH: Anet just delete the Enigneer already – I don’t feel like you want them to be in the game.

I don’t generally split into classes that are easy to kill and hard to kill… but more how does one class (build) contribute to the team. If they have too many features it looks sometimes overpowered.

1. Thiefs generally (have huge mobility, high burst, okay survivibility [meaning with stealth and mobility have a chance to leave a fight – compared to other classes])
1. Def-Ele (have huge mobility, huge survivibility, decent dmg [tbh I kill e.g. a mesmer after 30 sec. or so if I land my “burst”])

2. Trap-Ranger (high Condi-dmg, okay CC with pet, good survivibility)
2. Mesmer (high burst, mobility okay with focus)
2. Bunker-Guard (huge survivibility, great cc)
2. dps Ele (high dps, high mobility)

3. bombkit / HGH Engineer (okay condi, okay survivibility, good mobility)
3. necro (good condi, good dps, poor mobility)

4. warrior (good dps, good mobility, good survivibility (theoretical) – but just to easy to read)

I think the major issue is that the classes in Tier 1 have too much options – I still think Thief is very strong in tPvP, because the just turn around smaller group fights so crazy (they engage a fight, instantkill somebody and leave)

They should have a “downside”
- either remove stealth from thief to lower surv. or remove port with shortbow or lower dps… one of the three.
- either remove mobility from def-ele, or mass-heal surv., or “panic-button” mistform.

Both of these classes can easily leave a fight without dying – they aren’t punished for bad decisions.

Overall I have to say in tPvP all classes are viable and good. And having a good Player for one class is really really strong (even is the class seems underpowered currently). What I think is sad – when you look at certain classes and all the builds – for each build you will find a build in another class that can do better.

Readin this i thought it was someone from CN or Crs. Then i get to the sig, and i see its Oops.

I am a mediocre player without a team, one of those guys who considered getting into finals of paid tourneys (8 team format obviously) a huge success. Yet, 2 nights ago, a bunch of guys like me, and me, beat your team 3 times in a row. And yet you talk about quality drop, and how paid should be only for “very good players.”

It is great as it is, we just need some visible rating (elo works the best, there is a reason its used in chess), which would solve your point of “not knowing how good you are”, and then tie rewards to these ratings somehow so some newbies who beat other newbies in their 2nd match ever dont get same rewards as teams consisting of “very good players” like Traq get for beating another team of mediocre players such as me.

Im not trying to argue, but i think i saw some needless elitist whining (without being elite in the first place, no offense intended), when what we have now is a kittenin world of difference compared to what we had a week ago.

1. Random map 1v1
2. Elo
3. Tie rewards to rating
4. Tweak the system

And it will be perfect.

If im reading these “signs” and tips properly, i think you may like whats comin in the next patch.

No offense taken – thats why I even stated that we aren’t one of the top teams… Although we are testing out different things on the new map currently and that’s not how we play PAID overall..

I am not even saying up there that I want to be in that group of PAID people.. But I have been playing competitive games in high rankings and there needs to be a split between best teams – and the rest… There should be something where you see the best teams competing against each other… and sorry – a 1on1 map is not the thing you want to watch. 1v1 is not even a Tournament.

EDIT: And when we played against you we weren’t playing in core team – and our Guard played a Thief xD

Very interesting to see – although I don’t think this is useful for discussions for areas of GW2 (PvE, WvW or sPvP).

I would highly suggest to also add the feature to say what type of character it is. PvE, WvW or sPvP. This would really give us some input.

I would expect Warrior to be a lot played in PvE whereas in sPvP it is not very common currently.

I would prefer the “unlocking” and having infinite number of weapons/armors. That would mean that you cannot destroy the withdrawed item because you could get infinite number of orbs/crystal/slivers.

It would also make orbs/crystal/slivers a bit useless as you don’t have to craft any items anymore…

I dont know – but I think they should rework it somehow.

Monthly PvP Achievement is a Joke

TBH I think it was pretty difficult to get the monthly this time. I did it yesterday.

Reason is: I did pretty much everything of the monthly while doing PAIDs and was proceeding quickly – but I had to log onto 12 different hotjoin server to find an Engineer. Finally I was able to kill the last class and the monthly popped up.

Irony off: Yeah monthlys are waaaay to easy to get. I wouldn’t go for complete matches at all as this encourage guys to just login and wait for the game to finish without contributing to the team goal.

I would more go for:
defended a node 50 times
won 50 Tournys
Win 500 to zero (or a small amount of points for the enemy)
Contributed big time to team effort in Hotjoin (team goals)

No because before the people doing paids weren’t special in anyway whatsoever. They were just the people who had teams and thought they “should” do paids. Doing paids often meant nothing then and it means nothing now. There is no skill check on paids when it is 5 tickets then or when it is 1 ticket now.

The worst player in the world could of decided before that he wanted to do paids and it wouldnt make him good. There was no skill check for paid tournies with the old system. People should stop pretending there was. The only check was “having a team”….which really is a completely fail way to get a game successful on a competitive environment. Holding a team together isnt easy and some people who have exceptional talent (way more than many in the top teams now I am sure) will not be given the chance to compete. Having a team means regular play times which are coordinated (which is hard if more than 1 or 2 of the 5 man team have a life), it means not falling out with teammates (have you seen guild drama – this happens a ton), it means all the team staying in the game (people quit games all the time). A team isnt really a good way to base competitive play.

More than any other type of game MMORPG PvP games tend to revolve around communication above raw individual skill level. When you run in a premade on TS its basically an auto win even against vastly superior opponents who aren’t on TS with each other. Thus, “having a team” is what makes someone successful in this game…which kind of sucks to be honest.

I dunno, I kind of agree with you but mainly I dont because there is no logic behind paids being this place for mega talented play under the previous system. It wasnt matchmaking. If you had a rating of +200 (not qp which again as you say = no indication of individual skill but just grinding – or often team grinding). Matchmaking solves all the problems. It fixes 90% of the issues with tournaments in this game.

Of course I would like to see a purely solo queue with rankings so we can see who the top players in the world are…rather than who can just stomp pugs in their team which shows no skill at all….irrespective of whether they paid 5 tickets, 1 ticket or no tickets to carry out this boring stomping.

I understand what you are saying – anyway I think the old Paid in some way lead to only good teams could play PAID consistently. Because you would only “get your tickets back” when you placed 2nd or 1st.
With Frees giving only 1 ticket not successful team were forced to “buy” tickets – and who does that for a serious amount of time?

I do understand that it’s sometimes hard to find a team – but for a teambased game this is simply neccessary to be successful. Do you see any random build soccer team being successful in any major league? Im sure you wouldn’t.
Better Teams are playing PAIDs then – the other teams (which don’t have to be worse 1to1 compared to the good ones – but simply lack teamplay because of different reasons) play Free which shouldn’t be PUG stomping!

With the new PAID you rarely loose tickets – that’s why everyone can keep playing it – no matter what skill level. Matchmaking will actually find you some teams which are equally compatible which will lead to an even smaller loss of tickets over time.

Matchmaking is fine for PvP and it really boosts fun for the most parts. For the very high end play though I find it destructive.

If PAIDs are for the high end teams then it should follow the known pattern which are successful (see tournaments where strong teams would rather get weaker teams in the beginning to make sure the final is really high end).

If not – we are lacking a mode for these teams.

BTW: Im not saying that me or my team belong to the very high end GW2 Teams out there! That’s not the case – we could see though, that we are good enough to compete longterm in PAIDs and we only lost against the really big teams – sometimes we even win against them. It was very clear to see how we could compete globally. With new PAIDs the transparency is worse.

Really you people would moan about anything.

1v1 is about 10,000 times better than 8 team tournies. Here is why:

1, No massive queue times

2, You can play vs different people often

3, Matchmaking will only work with 1v1 system not 8 team tournies (obviously)

4, Keeps the maps fresh as a rotation of maps is way better than always having legacy 2nd for example.

5, 1v1 isnt a stupid time sink like 8 team is. This lets people drop in and play something which isnt lame like hotjoin, and yet doesnt take an hour out of their day to do (some people have things which come up in their lives)

6, Less tickets to enter means the community isnt artifically split on the basis of whether they think they should do paids or frees. There is no skill difference in built into this system, people self select whether they play paids – so the arguement that paids lets people have top tier matches is a complete fallacy. Matchmaking will result in skill based segregation which is what is needed.

I can follow your thinking – but you should also try to follow the thinking other players have.

1) No massive Queue times – for sure that’s good. Queue times have been okay at evening times before aswell. At least since December!

2) I don’t want to play with different people – it is PAID Tournament, this was intended to be Tournaments for the ones who really eagerly compete in PvP – in my opinion this requires a core team which doesn’t change that often

And this is the main topic I guess what drives people to one or the other opinion – the quality that should be in PAID Tournaments.

Because this is also the reason I disagree on 6) PAID should be for “good” teams only – this is a mode that will guarantee that you face teams with similar skill. PAID shouldn’t be intended to be for everyone. And that is exactly the case now: Everyone is playing PAIDs and the skill level dropped dramatically.

I like that more people play PvP now (if that is really true) – but I don’t like that everyone is able to play PAIDs all the time and farm QP.

QP was the last thing you could rely on in terms of skill level (of course if you play more often you have more QP – but having >150QP in the old PAID meant you have good experience). Now simply everyone could farm a million QP – if you have enough time for it.

You cannot even see how good you are anymore because you are put on the map with a team of similar strength – you cannot even get a hold of how far you are from beeing one of the best teams out there by competing with them and seeing that you lack here and there. You cannot learn from them either.

PAID should be something that is only for very good teams – and therefore an entryfee is good!

I agree with you on one thing though: For non-core teams the game isn’t very friendly anymore – that why I would go to:

Hotjoin: braindead farming or build testen
PUG Free Trouny: Solo or Duo-queue for Tournys
Premade Free Tourny: Tournys for premade Teams
PAID Tourny: Only for high skill players

If it’s then 3 rounds or just 1 – hard to tell. I prefer the 3 rounds because simply winning one round doesn’t feel like a Tourny anymore… Beeing on Khylo in old PAID was somehow important.

Are there still "weak" professions in sPvP?

The only underrepresented professions right now to me appear to be Engineer and Warrior. This is primarily because their only viably competitive builds (100 Nades and 100 Blades) are overshadowed by what the Thief can currently do. The rest of their builds are slightly overshadowed by what others can offer.

There are a lot of professions remaining though that only have one competitive build. All professions need five to six competitive builds, and that’s still a long road ahead. One of the primary issues a lot of the lack luster builds have is a lack of disengage and/or mobility. Which is one of the defining traits of the best builds out there right now.

I think you need to define “underpowered” or weak. If that is that a class isn’t playable in PvP – then no – there’s no weak class anymore.

If Underpowered means that other classes are better – then yes, some classes are underpowered.

I personally think the second definition is more suitable so I think Warrior and Engineer are currently underpowered.

If I go through every class and consider every build I see that each class has something unique which makes it special and the best class for the situation.

Now if you take a look at Warrior you’ll see that it can be build as a decent DMG build – but still I’d say the Thief can perform better in pure DMG. As a Thief has higher mobility and a stealth system which will save you from being downed in a lot cases.
The Warrior is behaving OK and I like having one around – but Thief is imho better to have.

Same for Engineer – there are probably more Builds out there so you could say that the Engineer is more versatile. Being more versatile doesn’t bring any values for me atm – so I don’t really see that as a big plus anymore. Being able to spec to a tanky build or a glasscanon build is fine – but I do that off-match where I could also switch classes to get the same effect. If I could be versatile in-match that would be helpful. But currently the Engineer is stuck with his build, too. And having a look at 100Nade Build – Thief can do better – a tank build – guard / ele can do better.

I wished they would try to get the game to less glasscanons (you can’t kill sombody in 3 seconds) because that would also remove the Hyper-Bunker Builds and would lead to longer fights which is more fun to watch.
It would also lead to Warrior and Engineer being more useful – as you don’t have to spec that you cannot be oneshotted by a thief —> more viable builds.

Help Anet please!

My whole team is stuck in the OLD Paid Tourny.

We were on third map when the update came und got kicked out. Since then it tells us we are waiting for a tourny to start (tournament is in progress).. there’s no GO NOW button and we cannot leave the roster anymore.

That means we cannot apply for NEW PAIDs or Free Tourny…

What can we do about it?

I was wondering if we could get an update on the use of classes in sPvP (or if thats not possible even the whole game) like you guys did in September

I think it would be really nice to see what classes are being played the most currently – and which are played the fewest.

At least for me, I would love to give the fewest played class a shot. It would maybe also indicate that the most played class is probably the easiest to play well currently – or just really great in playstyle.

Thanks a lot – but I would really help to get at least some kind of Build-Info. Because you do break the rules with classes here – but as Elementalist and Ranger can be run pretty bunker aswell it would be great to see if you stuck to meta-lineup in terms of use for team or really broke all “rules” and ran “random”.

Why do people complain about backstab when Killshot can hit you for over 10,000 damage?

Don’t quote me for truth, since Warrior (as of yet) is the one Profession I lack.
But – iirc – folk leave Killshot alone, because it has a pretty wicked cast time and c/d.

If backstab is “easy” to avoid, like many thieves claim it is, than Killshot is the equivilent of a semi truck rolling towards you at 5mph, from 50 feet away. Blowing its horn the whole time. Oh did i mention the semi truck is covered in neon lights with Hulk Hogan dancing naked on top?

But honestly you (not refering to Yoji here!) really cannot compare the Thief burst with any other burst in the game. Why? Because in sPvP (or even tPvP to be more concrete) NOT WvWvW you can always see what’s coming. Except for a thief.

Tbh I don’t die to a thief with mostly any class in a 1v1 because I can focus on him und can count his stealth time.
But having for example a 1v1 on a node – you are about to win that thing and tell your mates to stay away because the node is safe and suddenly it goes BOOM is just not good for PvP (in case you missed it – the thief came in stealth on the node and instakilled me).
Every other class I can see and call so my mates help me.

For Thief it should be either high damage or being tricky and stealth.

In addition to that the thief will take out his longbow after he killed me and jump to mid-node to be in that fight literally 5 seconds later.

I vote for either:
dmg thief
stealth thief (maybe with good mobility) and decent dmg but not 10k combo

Walorx – okay good to know… I already thought that it would be faster but didn’t want to state low numbers until I couldn’t confirm.

But I also remember it pressing 5 buttons in a row and somewhere in the middle the Golem already falls apart :-)

Actually if you play a glasscanon Engineer with Rifle and Toolkit you do it in under 2 seconds aswell.. don’t know exactly what long – but I can test it out!
