Ok – to start in a nice manner: I was really looking forward to this patch – there were certain things in PvP before that weren’t fun to play with/against that needed to be fixed. So we were all thrilled when we heard about bigger changes and a “PvP Patch”.
Some things that most of the people found “wrong” before patch was e.g.:
1) Passive skills that you just don’t need to use – passive is too strong
2) AI – too many pets running around
3) Too much AOE
4) Skills that grant immunity against something for longer time (Warri Stance & Engi Condi Immunity)
5) Warrior builds were too strong in 1v1 AND group fights
6) Elementalist were too weak in terms of survivibility
and some other minor tweaks here and there
So what did this patch bring?
1) They added even some more passive heals, although they kind of admitted in the videos that passive skills tend to be “too easy to use”
2) They made fun of Spirit Ranger before – HEY now they have even one spirit more than before
3) They didn’t change anything in terms of AOE – it is still AOE spamming everywhere
4) They added some skill that grant immunity – although they said this wouldn’t be fun
5) I don’t really feel any difference – there are some tweaks but it isn’t a game breaker
6) They nerfed the ELE – REALLY? Put all Traits into Master Tier
This game has some potential to be a wonderful game – be very competitive in PvP – but Arenanet simply doesn’t know what to do. They admit they made mistakes – they want to listen to the community – but usually every patch is making is worse.
How can you call a game “competitive” when it has tons of “immunities against anything”, “random procs” and “AI running around doing most of the damage”.
Arenanet you need to delete these cheesy skills and traits – otherwise you will never get this game any further.
This patch is making me really really sad as finally I see that Arenanet is unable to fix this game – it will always remain “cheesy”. It will always get worse with every patch.
They simply don’t listen to the community.
IMO the player size in PvP will decrease drastically now. HotM will be empty in the future. That’s SAD – so SAD!

I totally understand the OP.
As I’m Engi I know the situation quite well – I think you can summarize it pretty well:
It feels unfair because your enemy can make mistakes without being punished, whereas you have to play perfect to outlast him and die for doing the tiniest mistake.
I had heaps of fights against Stunlock Warriors aswell – but I run a stunbreaker.
My stunbreaker is on 40sec cooldown – meaning I can “eat” one stun – the remaining 3-4 stuns (or even more) in the 40sec I need to dodge or blind. If I manage to do – I really have great play and the Warrior will go low. When going low the Warrior can still escape in 90% of the time because his huge mobility.
Meaning: I need to play perfect to have him run away and come back 10 seconds later.
If I make one mistake – I’m dead!
The other way round it’s not the same though – the Warrior is not being punished for mistakes. He has pretty much 30-40 seconds to kill me (no matter what happens – he can eat all my damage) if he doesn’t excel – he runs away.
That’s making me mad – I see the Warrior eating all my damage – he’s even hundredbladind with 5 stacks confusion – and is not being punished for it.
It applies for both Warris out there… M/S-GS and LB/H
Still I was happy to have them around because they pretty much destroyed the Necro Meta.

its not my internet problem , becouse not only me have those lags , i think the problem is only in team que , many times when i am playing with my team we are lagging , same problem with enemy team so its anets server problems.
THIS! It’s driving us crazy, too.
We are in the HOTM – no lags, some of us play SoloQ because we are waiting for the last of the team – no lags…
We group and go to TeamQ – lags!
1) We have delays for skills of 1-10 seconds (walking around is fine)
2) We have lags of 1-10 seconds (the game actually freezes)
3) We have dcs like hell
1 is pretty different per player – every one of us is experiencing this – usually at different times though
2 is like 1 + from time to time we experience all the same lag – most of the times our opponents do so too
3 it just happens randomly – but actually most of our dcs are while stomping an opponent player
And this is since July or so… it’s no fun anymore…

Engi shouldn’t win against the condi necro
Engi vs shatter mesmer is equal I’d say. For sure if one shatter gets through the engi has problems, but played well and with use of terrain you should get to a 50% ratio against a shatter mesmer

About engi, have you ever try to fight a engi bunker/condition build? it’s unkillable. Too much resistance, whit a good damage, ranged, AoE knock back, quick skills, confusion ‘till 9 stack in 2 sec… and they can auto ress… it’s a OP build XD

The Engineer you are referring has Toolkit as Utility (otherwise 9 stacks of confusion is not possible), Bombkit, and probably you are referring to Flamethrower AOE knockback, because the shield knockback is on a 30 sec cooldown and a easy to see animation with casttime.
I haven’t seen any engineer running the three kits – but just in case you met one, here’s what you do:
1) “Bunker/condition build” – Engineer aren’t bunkers, they survive due to blinds and well timed knockbacks – if you really get your hits at him he will die easily.
2) “ranged” the Engi you are referring to isn’t ranged at all – the 9 stack of confusion can only happen, if you happen to stand in his bombs and the engineer will hit you with the pry bar – both melee attacks!
3) The engineer won’t have any stunbreaks – you stun them, they are pretty much screwed
Don’t argue with me that I see things differently because I’m an egineer – the engineer was a strong class, true (maybe on the very strong side of life if played well), but there are already too much counters out there, so it’s declining anyway. You won’t see that much in future anyway. The engineer you are describing isn’t played that way – get yourself someone who shows you the builds before mixing up things.
If you eat the whole 9 stacks of confusion – I’d say get yourself an engineer and practice playing against him.
You listed 5 classes, may as well buff the other four for balance.
No, no and no – enough buffing already. There has been so many buffs to damage that pure damage is dominating everything (either condi or direct damage) we have never had so much dmg before – it’s isn’t good for the meta, nor for the viewership. Let’s go to more hybrid setups where you can actually see whats happening!

Thing is – in the past you only had good 1v1 classes that excelled in 1v1 only.
You cannot say Ranger is not strong in 1v1s.
Imo a strong 1v1 build shouldn’t have huge team support. Either you spec for the one or the other.
With the spirits though it offers great team support – and with the rez it’s huge support!
Same for the Necro – with necro you can kill almost every class in 1v1 if played strong – also it’s HUGE team support at the same time.
Why would you pick anything else than a profession/build that can do everything.

I’m only talking about TPvP for the last 4 weeks:
Tier S:
=Necromancer
Tier A
+Ranger
+Thief
=Warrior
=Guardian (Slightly higher than Elementalist)
=Engineer
Tier B
=Elementalist
Tier C
=Mesmer
Explaination:
Necro: Excells in Teamfights aswell as super strong in 1v1
Ranger: Very strong 1v1 class that also supports a LOT in teamfights (Rez, Burning uptime)
Thief: Very strong 1v1, lots of condiremoval, high toughness →hard to kill
Engineer: Very strong 1v1, team support OK
Guard: Still necessary imo but not as strong as it used to be – pressure of condis with the condi meta incredible high
Warrior: not easy to kill anymore – with stun-builds very strong in support
Ele: Still very high burst, survivability low
Mesmer: pretty much everything counters mesmer now
Why is 1v1 important – although we play a teambased game: If you can engage a 1v1 on a side-node with a strong class – the opponents have two possibilities:
- either get help – that will most likely win you the mid fight as you outnumber them there
- fight and probably loose the 1v1 – you loose the side-node.
Pretty much all high end comp are currently:
Necro, Ranger, Guard, Engi, Thief… sometimes they swap 1 class with something else – e.g. warri, ele.
Didn’t see any mesmer in TPvP in a looooong time

1) Unranked Queue to have fun with friends
2) New maps (good ones like the old 3 – not the new ones – no underwater combat!!!)
3) Reward System (Let us have some ingame cash that we can spend on skins or Dyes, or let us have mass-carfting abilitys in the mystic forge – so you don’t have to put in 4 item each times for one Dye – give us a “craft all”)

… is the first step to create a competitive league for GW2. Although that will be highly unprofessional (no offense – but as you don’t earn money with it it can only stay a hobby) it will increase the awareness of GW2.
Other playerbased leagues will follow that example which will improve the GW2 situation as well.
After that professional league can hopp on that train – and boom GW2 is an e-sport.
I know that there are quite some barriers to break – but the first step is taken!

So… hold on. The single one mode in the game which earns no revenue (PvE earns gold, WvW earns (some) gold. Heck, even Jumping Puzzle aficionados earn gold) is the one which has to pay to use it?
How come we do not need to rent CoF when we want to run that instance?

In other games I have to pay for a server as well when I want to have my own one.
They will have to add some servers to their server park which will add costs. So I understand their point of view.
You can also play on public servers if you like – you don’t HAVE to pay for one.
Custom Arenas finally enable something I’ve been looking for quite a while now. Players can now create custome leagues on website where you set private games to team-vs-team. That’s great and I gladly pay for that.
Although: They cannot make it too expensive. Referring e.g. to CS (where every Clan bought Servers) you usually pay in between 10-20 Euro per month – it shouldn’t be more expensive than that. I guess other gameservers are similar (Minecraft maybe a bit cheaper
)
I also hope they make it possible to pay per month – I don’t want to buy every day again a new server!

It might not be a professional league with incentives, but for other games as well you can see that community leagues are mostly a lot of fun. They help newer player to get into a regular playing pattern so they can improve – they are also the best thing available so far.

About us: We are a team of 4 guys all based in Germany and therefore speak german currently. As we know that German limits our search dramatically, we also accept anyone who speaks english fluently (although of course german is very much appreciated). We all started to play GW2 in the BWE or right at release. The team in it’s current player base is playing since October 2012.
We settled for regular playing days as Thursdays and Sundays – but we actually play more often than that – usually almost every day in the week.
We are consisting of a Guard, a Mesmer, an Elementalist and an Engineer – which we all play since release.
About you: You should be a thief that plays a burst build (sorry we are not looking for Condi-Thiefs or Venomshares) have a high online time and know how to play (I know there’s no “rule” for that – but we would expect you to have more than 700 played Tourneys with the profession – if that not the case – okay…. but we won’t test anybody who claims he’s good with the class and has less than 100 Tournygames e.g.)
Our goal: Mostly FUN – but then again Fun for us means to be able to beat any team out there if we are “best-form” – so I think Top10/20 teams should be realistic. But then again we all have real lifes – so probably not Top5.

I think using the NPCs on the battlefield to shield you from attacks is an intentional design decision judging from the minion master necro. A lot of what makes things like that viable at all are the defense you get from hiding behind your minions.
Also, I’ve often intentionally stood behind a clone while stomping a warrior or something to avoid their downed interrupt projectile.
I don’t think the mechanic needs to be changed – just learn how to adapt to it, use it to your benefit, etc.
I agree – but what should be changes is target priority (when I run onto a ranger with pet and simply start attacking in 50% of the time my first hits will hit the pet)
Same with necros – I don’t want to target the minion and I don’t want to klick through 20 minions before getting the necro into my target!
Body blocking however is a nice mechanic and should stay in!!!

This has to be removed – as it’s essential! I have had that so many times now – and this really changes the outcome of a teamfight!
I – as an Engineer – have the task to DPS everyone that is downed (and all that are near and try to rezz the guy) – and currently I do that with grenades. Because of long “airtime” of the grenades I tend to approach the downed enemy.
Now in 50% of the cases instead of spamming AOE damage – I start stomping the guy which prevents me from keeping my burst up. This lead to multiple opponents rezzes – and a lot of “hate” of my team (hey you shouldn’t stomp – you are here for damage).
Hitting escape or dodging away won’t help a lot – I still lost up to half a second of burst – which can be enough for the opponent team.
Please A-Net change that!

Hey Anet – on Asura – everytime you use Elixier S you will get a weird “toggle” of camera – it’ll zoom in and out constantly while being tiny.
I think that came with the december update or so – could you pls fix that?

I completely disagree with the comment that HGH engis are brain dead. It’s the best spec in the game yet it has one of the highest skill caps in the game. Any class can kill an HGH engi if they kitten up, but if you don’t kitten up you can kill any class in the game.
Landing nades, proper cleansing, proper application of condis, proper use of kiting and range, all things that most classes don’t have to deal with. Furthermore it’s a reactionary class, you won’t explicitly determine the outcome of a fight like a thief, warrior or ele. You must understand every other spec in the game to win. Finally, it is a relatively squishy build with only 1 48s CD stun break and an exceptional lack of CC. Still the best though
I am inclined to agree, HGH engi’s can either be extremely easy to kill or extremely hard; I guess thats testament to the skill level of the player on that class.
Well – I didn’t say braindead… But the whole mechanic (use elixiers for might/condi cleaning) feels…odd…
I use the F-skills of elixier which are random and therefore mostly stupid, to gain different things than they were supposed to do.
Also I find it a lot easier to play than a good 2-Kit Engineer.
I agree with you that you have to know every opponents skill to perfectly dodge the spikes and I also agree that you have to play more reactive – but that counts for the whole class Engineer!
At least for me – it’s a boring playstyle as an HGH Engineer (also it is probably the best build currently as an Engineer)

Tanky venom share build took our tPvP to 15 straight victories last night…..I’d call that viable both on the tank and group support front.
Did actually the thief only got you to the victories? Probably not – maybe it’s playable – but talking about being tanky you have to commit that other classes can do better than the thief

The question is viable for what. Reading your post I see clearly that you talk about tPvP. Reading the tanky build and group support and condi build – I think he was talking about hotjoin (sure you can be tanky when you are in stealth like 99% of the time – can you hold a node like that – no!)
For serious tPvP where you want to follow the principles of conquest there is only one build viable! (maybe one and a half :-))

This is a performance optimization. People who are too far away from you do not show up in the world. PvP is a special case because you always want to know about your teammates. Another drawback is that your teammates will disappear from your team UI. We have one version of a solution to this in the works.
Were you referring to with “UI” to exactly that problem? When can we expect a hotfix?

3) Engi: I initially liked the changes to the Kit Refinement and I still like the Effects most Kits give you, but the global 20s CD makes it almost useless, because you won’t really be able to get the effects when you need them. I initially also thought that this would create a nice tension and require planning and skill when to use which Kit so you can still get the most out of Kit Refinement, until I realized that I need to switch Kits constantly, to get Swiftness/Vigor…. -.-° […]
So true – I wanted to try the new kit refinments as well and I really like them – the effect of each one of them is good. But I just cannot time to use them with a global cd.
In a fight I am constantly switching kits – so I trigger random things every 20sec (it’s quite impossible to have the timer in view to time your kit refinments) Even if I don’t need a certain trigger – I just cannot wait using kits until I need a trigger to be ready then! Engineer without kits is dead!
I understand that a cd on each refinment would be really nice (then I can actually go into Medkit to gain magnetic aura when I want to, or something else). But with a global cd – bullkitten trait!

Engineer: There has pretty much been 3 builds used in serious competitive play through out the games life so I will discuss those 3.Elixirs HGH: Over powered and didn’t get touched in the patch.
100 nades: Easily killed target, but it has a crazy 1 shot – never was overpowered but something did need to change about the 1 shot, the 1 shot is now non existent and it even lost some utility through the kit refinement change – verdict – went from semi viable to completely not viable.
2 kit with double elixir R (teldos fav build) – also easily killed like 100 nades, gets 1 shot by thieves, the kit refinement change didn’t affect the build very much. Hasn’t been viable for a while and will remain that way.
Engi overall – only 1 viable build and it’s over powered and brain dead. It’s interesting to also state that, hgh build is the most tanky, has the only condi removal, and does the most damage of all 3 builds. Kit refinements global cooldown on kits should be removed. […]

As I play that profession the most, I like to add one thing (and I surely think this counts for other professions aswell)
2kit with Elixier R is one-shotted by the thief – that’s correct but it’s simply that every build is being one-shotted by the thief! Even with HGH Engi you would have a hard time – but you have Elixier S which saves your …
Elixier R is a good stunbreak – but it will never protect yourself from a thief!
And that’s the main problem – due to thiefs you are currently forced to take Elixier S as one utility. This is your only stun-break – but you wouldn’t use this as a regular stunbreak… you would take the stun except there comes huge amount of damage with it. Elixier S is now your PANIC BUTTON!
I don’t like that we are being forced to use something like that. And I think Ele has the same with Mist Form. Probably other classes aswell.

Condition damage seems normal to me. The death breakdown is just bugged and shows 30k burning, bleeding, retaliation, and confusion every death.

I’m being honest! Look at the ticks – every tick is proper amount – but it ticks twice per second! That’s why all condition do huge amount of damage

Dude if you are running a condition build of course thats whats going to do most of your damage… think about it.
Dude just go online and test it – you can feel that after 2 seconds that something is weird!
Don’t try to even think about telling me that everything is right!

Guys – just look at the description of the skills already – it says bleeding dmg 226 for one bleed whereas with the formula it should do 113 with my spec.
Condis are completely off currently – it’s what you will die off now!!!
Look at the death review and you won’t hardly see any time condis wouldn’t have done less than 75% dmg of the overall amount.
Burning, bleeding, confusion – just tested it all – they are all broken!

No, you do not do 2000 damage in spvp from one stack of confusion. One condition removal will remove every single stack you put on me, and I will only take one hit from confusion from removing them. Not sure the exact damage but nowhere near 2000
Zaragoz – I’m able to stack 12x confusion on somebody – that will lead to 2047 damage per skilluse – even also on condicleaning!
if you remove it – I just apply it to you 10 seconds later again!
If you cannot clean it again – you either cannot use any skill for 5 seconds – or you will probably die… as a elementalist at full life (which is usually 12-14k life) you only need to use 7 skills – or when I do let’s say in that time 5k damage on my own on you – it needs only 7k damage – so 3 skills…
That cannot be intended?
iF your fighthing a thief the fight wont lsat 20 seconds, he will be dead or you will. If your fighting a necro he can send it to you. If your fighting me on my engy i can cleanse every 5 seconds, so =) its not an instant win . Trust me i main engy and have tested this. I find hgh condition to be more useful overall.

Ive seen it before. The confusion stack generally isnt considered viable because toolkit and bombkit dont synergize well. with 100nades gone though, maybe that will change.
