Anet dropped the ball when they decided “new players” = 8 year olds who never picked up a game before.
You want to teach players about this game anet? how bout actually telling players stuff that you would have to look up on the internet? think like how combo fields and finishers work? how traps in WvW are used? How conditions and boons affect gameplay ? Theres multiple things you could have taught new players, instead we get this braindead tutorial that a new born could do. I love anet’s metrics. This is what the metrics showed players didn’t know how to do? good god
When I was that age I was playing Commodore 64 and then DOS games all on my own. The audacity of this update though… and you brought up WvW: just imagine them putting this kind of tutorial in WvW. I don’t know whether to laugh, cry, or bang my head against the wall just thinking about it.
What about the 30 year old who has never played any games. That is a different experience for them I know if i gave my father who works in the medical field my keyboard and told him to kill a skritt he’d have a hard time knowing how to do it. New players don’t have to be 5 year olds they can be adults who have never gamed before….
Your father can’t ask you “Okay how do I move around?” He can’t move the mouse to options and see the keybindings? He can’t look at the bottom of the screen and see 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and try pressing those?
Come on. Stop making excuses. I’m sure your doctor or nurse father can figure this stuff out.
At any rate, why would ANet even WANT to bring people that couldn’t figure this out into the game? If they can’t figure how to press 1 on their keyboard then how the hell did they pass the login screen?

Many people who read this thread have probably played xbox or playstation now remember when you gave your father or mother or grandfather… whatever …the control and told them to play and they where very confused? I am sure EVERYONE has had this experience. Now imagine in an MMO which is a lot more complex then FIFA or NBA2k or any other console game that are easy in comparison.

With all the complaints about utilities/elites/etc being moved by several levels, has anyone even bothered to calculate what it used to be vs what it is now in terms of time?
I only went up to 10, but those levels are basically handed to you now. Originally, levels were supposed to be normalized and take roughly 1 hour each, though 1-15ish was always less. Considering 1-10 is like 30 minutes now, doesn’t it even out? If hearts continue to reward more experience like the early level ones, is it not even faster?

1. I can tell you what happend. you uploaded and aweful feature patch. reroll and everything is fine.
2. JPs and dodging has been teasted by the community itself hours ago. we talking about diving goggles, skill challanges, weapon and utility skill beeing level gated like a asian hardcore gind MMO. return it to pre patch and all is good.
3. WHY was it necassary to even lower ep requirments anyway? give as reward more ep if you wanted to speed up the levling. i mean you also made new hearts quests to give the extra bonus XP why over doin it by lowering the requirments? then you wouldn´t have to even touch any skills and atunments.
4. AND the reward messages was enough. you over did it again. You could have easily jsut added a reward message in the old system just to bette rpoint they unlocked a skillwhen they kiled enough mobs. there was NO need to lock them, none at all.
And NO i didn´t earn ym wepaons kill around 10 or 20 minutes in after leveling, even back then as a GW2 i learned quickly i could unlock all weapons skill by hitting stuff. and i did it under a minute. this is impossible now with level locking. sorry you have not hit you goal.
5. rewards as in weapons armor or trinkets yes! not skills for somethign we had as i stated before in elss then a minute.
Also the content direction system MIGHT be encouraging how ever it leads to another problem, new palyers won´t look their environmet. I grantee there will be a number of new comers complainig about how thecontent direction system led them to a flase point of interest, while not under standing they have past a ramp to go up or downwards at some point. Enhancing the OLD system would have been better, by just let the point and visata be visable on the map even when not discovered, I mean skill challanges ar epointed out aswell and are even mentioned in the first scout map view. Add points of interest and vistas there and new comers will find their own way.
6. with what kind of people did you tested that? No im not goin below the belt here or point at any ethnic groups or something. BUT my guess is you tested it with people who were actually not interested in MMOs in the first place. Asoon i donw want to show interest into something, then playing it will only cause these results since there were not willing to learn at all. And us palyers two years ago had no problem either to adapt from GW1 to GW2, because we were willing to learn the new mechanics and play the game. If THIS feature pack was the result of a study with test people, then i can fairly assume those tester didn´t like MMOs in general and even the promise of an MMO not like other MMOs wouldn´t have changed their mind either.
You basicly doin what runes scape did few years ago, this MMO tried similar tactics, trying to cater to the mysterious not reach audience. they failed and lost good 70% off their user base during that time, and only after many back paddles the biggest bunch off players returned.
And believe me this will happen with GW2 aswell if nothing changes.
However i doubt you would inform us correctly, you wouldn´t even tell us anything. I actually believe you will say that it completly work and that everyone is happy while in this forum and in game people still complain about it in masses.
This is not a unabsed assumption, it´s the conclusion of the expirience with Anets rather shoddy communication with their player base.
If here would have been one we the palyers might have given you better options to teach newcomers better, and would have reached a Mega-Man x intro stage level: all basic stuff (weapons skill and the old utility and elite levels, and the F -skills) avilable from the very first secound. and then let the player learn their basics in an controlled environment.
thats not given ATM. its just: Level 3 new shiny things.
7. THAT should have been the focus in this feature patch.
PS. it would be nice if we would get ALL of the personaly story in their proper order. People liked the “greatest fear” arc. some even claims it to be the best. specialy since we lost jsut revently our mentor from our order.

No one is going to keep playing this game because of the early levels…every MMORPG maker knows that endgame is how you retain players, not the early stages that get completed in less than a week…. so for the 10000th time, please work on a CONTENT PATCH FOR VETERANS. thats how you get new players to commit to this game and stay commited…. not by this pointless NPE.
I want to clarify one point I’ve been seeing expressed. This is one type of retention. There’s another type of retention where new players try the game and churn out before they even get to the point where they’re seeing the potential the game has to offer. Yes, a certain amount of people will just do that; they’ll log in to see what it’s about, have their curiosity satisfied, and move on. But we were seeing a lot of places where people who would otherwise have become active users were churning out prematurely because of the issues that we’re addressing with the NPE.
As Colin stated above, we can’t talk in detail about the ongoing development to drive retention for our veteran players, but I just wanted to make the point that the NPE was deliberately designed to address the early game retention issues, and ensure that Guild Wars 2 can benefit from a strong and steady influx of new players into the game.

This is for many player and wihtout doubt the majority of players an unnessacary vut of content. specialy since the"greatest feat" story missions were on of the best in the entire personal story, specialy since it volved around your charcater specific decisions.
and as biggest “insult” Trahearne stieals the show again by beeing palced there.
And i think you developers have heard enough complain how the personaly story at the end was more about him then the player avatar.

BTW when can we exspect a statment to the cut and reshuffled parts of the personal story. i find the new order pretty confusing.
You level up faster so vets should be happy. New players have a better way of understanding the game. The real issue here is people not being able to key farm and complaining about it under other reasons. With this new system if your creating an alt you can level him faster! I think more key farmers here then anything else.

I have two level 80s right now but enjoy making alts of different classes. Now I, quite frankly, fear creating a new character or playing the ones I have who are all under level 20. Sometimes I like to mix up my GW2 routine and work on alts and other classes, but now I don’t want to because I know of the heavy, stifling restrictions made on characters 1-20/30/40. I fear this patch will make you lose veteran players and not bring in as many new players as you wish. So I ask you, please take our complaints into consideration and find a compromise. The threads complaining about the changes are still alive and well into the second day of the patch. Surely this tells ANet something…

yes because as arin state this is something game designers need to keep in mind. if they would have left mobs with condis and dodgeable abilites it would give new comers actualy accomplishment feelings.
it´s literaly soemthign that should have been done: turning all starter zones into presearing ascalon. that was a good tutorial, we learned everythign we needed for later adventures and that they can occure in different situations. and if you are really good at it you can evne reahc max level there.
While I really think a CDI about guilds would be very usefull, I just think it wouldn’t be very usefull to discuss guild related things at this time.
The forum is flooded with (healthy and constructive)discussions/raging/complaining etc. about the latest feature patch. That’s what is moving the forum right now.I think it would be best if someone of the development team, doesn’t necessarily has to be Chris, would first open some kind of CDI regarding the latest feature patch.
I would really like to see improvents on guilds, don’t get me wrong, I just think we won’t get 100% out if it while the majority of the forum is moved by another thing.

i don´t think many want to play an alt anymore because they don´t agree with the new level gating policy.
The game was losing subscriptions, but it was not hemoraghing before the CU, just a steady decline. Player representatives and developers had come up with a list of changes everyone could agree on, which was to be the combat upgrade. And then, suddenly, in an extremely short period, a completely DIFFERENT update happened.
It has always been rumored that the prime cause for the change was the success of WoW. There you had this barely known IP, made into a (at the start) very buggy MMO, and it had over 1 million subs pretty much from the start. And LucasArts said ‘hold on a minute, our IP is Star Wars, we should be doing better’. And hence a chance that completely ignored all the veteran players wanted, in the hopes of drawing a new public. Sound familiar?
And we have SOE’s own word for the fact that the CU caused the game to bleed players at an enormous rate, they admitted this in an article a few years after the fact. They also admitted they panicked and tried another change, the NGE, which was even LESS desirable to the remaining players, causing another even bigger exodus.

actually the greatest fear mission are metnion in forging the pact and battle for fort trinity in the very last sentence. however nobody ha spalyed aroudn that level yet.
I could powerplay til then. i have an 80 who jsut did the first two chapters.
these tutorials in the starting zone showever loose all meanign if you can not aply them to the next or secound next heart quest. the dodge tutaorial in queens dale is after the apple farm so baisly after quest three. you have 15 other quests to do before you reach an appropriat level for kessex hills, where oyu need the dodge mechanic.
So as a new play you spend only the beginning of the game to learn ONE mechanic and the next lets say 2-3 you spend in queens dale never using it again. then you run into kessex hills NOT knowing what or how uses stuff you need to dodge. and the new palyer fall right back were they would be without the feature pack.
and thats the problem: they took away anything to pratice on in a safe environment.

NOW the starting zones are like a intro stage wihtout ALL the elemnt where you elarn by doin in the controlled environment.
the little tutorials are now nothing more but pop up screen telling you what a button does.
before the patch you could run around free and asoon you would hit an obstacle you need to have afunctioning brain to figure it out. yes in an MMO with a keyboard you still need a pop up saying which key does it but teach basicly yourself where and when to use it. and that constantly with changing enemies and situations.
the megaman x intro stage does that too. goin further into the stage the very mechanic you jsut thought yourself will be atleast used 3 more times so that the palyer can atleast learn that not all situation will be exactly the same so you need cognitiv conclusion skills to analyse a situation and act with the learned abilites accordingly.
thats not given in the starting zones. there is jsut one spot that never changes in its approch of dodging and new players will be overwelemd when they sudden ly have to move and or attack at the same time. so nothing is really gained there.
Anet should have kept the dodge ability of mobs and bundle item and use the startign zones more as itnro stage. teaching the player one thing by doin it and let him apply this knowledge in variosu EASY situation to let him know that sometimes u need to dodge a projectile or a moving wave or aoe attackand not jsut a red cirle area on the floor that doesn´t move.
then the level gating. it should have been kept to the first levels NOT halfway through the leveling. they have those reward UIs. they should have used these to "reward a new palyer with the new weapons skill each level, it also would have drawn attention to the skill and its use.

Real polar bears are often not snow white, and my guess is that they are using a real bear model for that color.

That said, the real fix is to ask ANet to allow rangers to apply dies to their pets and make them whatever color they want. Then you can spend 34 gold in the trading post getting the Celestial dye so you can have a bright white bear.

I dont really think of Rangers as pristine. Street sludge is our level, and if im getting dirty the beast is too.
As far as “being the only one thats bothered”; you might be. If you are in a position where using bears is somehow the right thing to do, black bear and brown bear are typically much stronger options. I dont think i’ve ever seen someone running a polar bear, simply because its F2 is weak relative to the species (same could be said about arctic wolf).

Up to this day, I still believe that the kitteniness of “Armor is armor, we don’t want kittentail dresses and skirts !” that started on gw2guru is the reason why this armor and another one (the one the mesmer concept art wears) isn’t available to players.
And yet there are some armour sets which hardly qualify as clothing, let alone armour… :/
sometimes armor is not a whole body integralprotection armor. ever seen abrbariens in role playing games? their armor is hardly protectiv as a knights armor, but it does its job of protecting of smaller injuries.
You can´t always go with the principle of how many hits an armor can take.
sometimewarrior depend more on their agility to avoid direct hits or their ability to pairy and counter blows. for that they need movment, which they wouldn´t have in a full plate armor. The norn armors are very reminiscent of that armor philosophie.
Yes there are armors with questionable skin showing spots but keeping in mind how many skin showin armors are more suited for barbarian types of warriors, they are very few.

this is wanted for CASTERS, who wear cloth. which is not protectiv AT ALL.
Or is your t-shirt capable to protect you from a sword blow? if so patent that kitten.
other wise it´s pointless to complain about protectivness about cloth armor, since realisticly it has none.
people seem to forget where the term zergin evne comes from.
zerging is a starcraft stratigy of the zerg race. they can build very cheap units called zerglings. these can be built to hundred of units in a game. and their onyl purpose is to attack in a mass without any big stratigy other then micromanagment. how ever witht he right stratigy you can destroy it with more powerful and less units.
and a zeg in MMOs is basicly the same. not much stratigy and does only one thing. many on one and hitting with simple not much dmg hits.
zerg as ONE SC palyer might be a strategy, but if each zergling is controlled individualy its not. its just un satisfying wave. and until recently the best way to farm kitten.
and thats what really bugs all of you. you have to do kitten to get somethin done. you can´t jsut mindlessly go into a boss fight and exspect good lootz and legendaries OMGZ.
but thats what gw2 lacked since launch what people from traditional MMOs missed. THAT kind of end game that requires skill then just mass.
or were those complainers people who had no idea of raids? where jsut expsecting big HP bosses they can down with hundred men?

Okay i played the pavilion and the the problems are following:
FIRST OFF everybody despite the lack of organisation just spends money to heal-o-tron. they just trigger the event without enough people around or people beeing organized.
secound: without enough people and lack of coordination only two and i repeat" ONLY TWO" groups form
thrid: these onll two groups do exactly the wrong thing, well and they have to. they zerg the bosses one after another.
and the first two bosses go msotly down in the gold reward time.
but then all the othe rbosses get their abilities adding more difficulty to them allready.
fourth: if they groups are smart enough they stay sperated. however thats not the case msot of the time and after two or three bosses the groups join together forming a zerg bigneough to trigger the anti zerg scaling and the bosses get even harder. resulting in even longer periods to kill them.
fifth: the lack of understanding the bosses themselfs.
while some are not much of a hassle like the charr boss and the pirate one. asoon we get to ogre or boom boom people ignore OBVIOUS mechnics. people need to take alot at what they hit.
the ogre hasa bird shield tha can only be broken with bird food. and boom boom hasa healing turret that need to be damaned SIMULTANIOUSLY to with her.
i didn´t do the destroyer yet but i its probably not that complicated either.
YOU players need to do the following:
-stop spending gold to heal-o-tron. aslong you don´t organized six groups with 15-20. don´t even try.
- FORM six groups for kittens sake. there are six areas six bosses. how is that not obvious with the time constrained and the obvious OP scaling when you zerg one boss?
-with six groups with the formerly nammed amount of people bosses do NOT scale to impossible difficulty. they are killable in the godl reward time. i have seen it with every boss even i didn´t participate yet in the destroyer.
-if there is one group finshed before everyone else, and there is one group still sruggeling, DON`T GO THERE AS THE ENTIRE GROUP. do not send more then 5 max. there to keep the scaling in a small range. the rest can either go to other bosses or jsut wait depending on hwo far the bosses are downed. to large groups trigger the anti zerg difficulty. help if it doesn´t make the boss harder.
-take a look at the update announcment and read what the bosses can do. the update release said what bosses can do for their for most feature. from there i learned that boom boom needs to be dealt with her turret thats heals her.
or before you charge into a boss LOOCK whats around him. specialy with the ogre you have birds and bird seeds laying around .maybe they interact with each other and make it easier to stay alive and dmg the boss.
in short learn the encounter. yes you can go to the current constant unnessacary event trigger BS and look at those bsoses learn the basic mechanics adn then return prepared for a real try.
unless you do these easy steps you will never achiv gold reward and never get loot.
raiders in wow don´t get loot either when they wipe. and when they wipe its either they have bad coordination or they took SO LONG the boss enrages and kills thems.
behappy that these bosses do NOT enrage. unless they kill you and the regenerate instantly
Hey all, just a quick note. Earning higher tiers of reward in the Boss Blitz in the Queen’s Pavilion is a great way to earn Festival Tokens, and Queen’s Gauntlet tickets – the rewards that the other activities within the festival give as well. If you check your inventory, you should see the tokens & tickets you have received.
So by using Great Jungle Wurm style coordination to get a gold reward, the only reward we get is tokens for buying skins that we already have from doing Living Story the last time around, and Queen’s Gauntlet tickets for entering fights and getting achievements that we already have from doing Living Story the last time around.

look who has no clue of the wurm mechanic. the worm mechanics are a bit mor complicated then jsut spplitting up into 6 groups and then basht he bosses.

they did a fix if there are many palyers hitting a boss you see less blinding lights and see more of the battle.

Festival Gold Sink.I’ve never thought I’d feel like quitting the game so strongly.
I also find the gauntle tickets arent too easy to come buy, and I hate the dual currency of having them cost silver AND festival tokens. Please no dual currency. It sucks.
This event has increased the price of all mats. and has brought nothing in. Its really disappointing.
(the boss mechanices are interesting, and people did ask for marionette to be brought back, this is similar in terms of organisation, only, nobody wants to organise, because it’s worthless.)
the prizes increase becaus there was drop before before everyone speculated on a zerg farm fest again. its basicly all the zergs fault.
i think what a few of you don´t seem to under stand is that the scaling is intentianly that way to dis courage zerging. this blitz is supposed to be done by 6 single groups of people doin each one boss. the scalign THEN is not a problem. the scaling a 150 zerg however is meant to be impossible to finish as gold.
anet net tries to brign you to do these tactic watch over the plateedge. trying to give you the raid encounter everyone havs been bithcing about since launch even though they KNEW there wasn´t any wow raid in this game.
however i agree for that to work better they need to show all bosses HP in the entire pavilion.
and if im correct after one boss is down, two groups can still help each other. like
grooup 1-6 fight. group 4 and 1 finshed 4 helps 5 out who has done not so much dmg while 1 helps group 2 who are secound to last. by that time 3 has finshed and split up to either boss if nessecarey. #
and maybe to tneder to people more enter a 7th boss that can be zerged, jsut to let our frustration of the struggle before and then get good, not to much but good amoutns of loot.
It´s not a new thing to joke about the hilarious misplaced personal story bits in lion´s arch due to LA beeing destroyed while we try to stop it zhaithan to destroy it.
I think the devs need to impliment a possibilty to keep old versions of a map as instance so that such un fitting misshaps don´t happen any more and to keep the personal story somewhat emerging.
Most of the Personal stories SEEm to be insequential at the moment, but what if orr suddenly grows green again? would be weird for the PS, any probably for the meta events.
or if the dwarfs ruin in timberland falls suddenly are rebuild (jsut to give an exaturated exsample)
I would love to see you devs impliment this little bit into the game to ensure that future heros expirence the story the same as we all did. i mean you can apperently switch places with the map alone, the vision from the pale tree seem to be a good kandidate to execute this practice.

BUT back to dragons.
you seem to miss little quirks here and there.
YES the primary goal is to defeat the dragons but they allready left their dangerous mark deep into all of the 5 races core.
the huamsn race struggles allready with enslavement or extintion and then there is cadaceus probably a whitemantle traitor who doesn´t care about the dragons at all. also many npcs in DR state they don´t “BLEIEVE IN DRAGONS” it seems many citiziens begin to even doubt dragons exist at all. they don´t care about them, becuase they have more imidiant problems to deal with.
the norn lost lots of their proud hutning days from GW1 when several spirtes where killed by jormag, luring many norn to the sons of svanir to regain what many norn believe is their pride and strengh. and the others wnat to forge their own legend all the time. but even if the legend was build on saving other it is always part of their pride that can bring them doom. the nron need to be even more selfless to one day dmaage jormags tooth.
mysteries rank aroudn the sylvari msotly in our community: are they dragon minions? HOW did the nightmare court came to be? what is caiths secret hinted at by scarlet? who came the one capsle from with the very neutral sylvari that had no connection to the dream at all?
asura are crafty the smartest and dnagerous inventors. their politics are ricked evne wporse then the human ones and xenophobie is on the rise again with the inquest and the seemingly not caring councler flux. will those asura force the asurian race to lock anyother race out? flux even shows those steps in the first steps of the PS. will they betray the other races?
the charr are in a constant battle with ghosts flame legion and traitors to the weapon peace. As much the charr have achived in their shourt past since the searing they still struggle with minor problems to this day and then there is the seemingl never ending fronts with ascalonion humans, even if the msot of them want peace, the seperatists seem to be supported by cadaceus in some way.
the dragons wait. they lurk. they only show their presence and leave a mark. they turn from imidiant thread to fact to tales to myths to the populuse or unimportant . they races pay less attention to them, somethign all orders struggle against to prevent.
the dragons learned since they fought dwarves, mursaat, the seer, jotun and the other old races.
they wait they let petty fight among the races tear them appart.
thats why zhaitans fought to destroy threhearn and us the commander, because we brought proof of united strengh is the way to defeat them.
the dragons at the moment wait for the day when queen jennah is dethroned and the white mantle rises his banner over the human capital, when the asura will get secluded from the others, when their is a distrust against the sylvari, when the charr have to many fronts to fight on and when the norn lose their way and their pride fully.
and with our battle in the PS story we delay the worst case scenario and then force the dragons out. i know we will NOT face primordus until the end. he will commit something that make all our efforts look pointless and that invloves us doin as anet want us to expirence the PS and LS.
the onyl thing anet ahs to do is to make this theory more solid with very very subtle hints.

Okay, well… Is that all?
THIS is the final chapter of the story? THIS is our answers, revelations and closure? You honestly want tot ell me that THIS is something only “a few thousand” got right in their predictions?
Yeah, no. I don’t buy it. Not one bit.
So what secret does caithe hide? We didn’t got to know.
So what was all that FOR? To wake another dragon? All that kitten, death and terror to wake another monstrosity? Well if that’s not blown out of scale.
She said there’d be “even less” of Lion’s Arch left after today. Well sorry, the world looks pretty intact to me after all that doom and gloom we were promised. Lions Arch is burned down, nothing more. That’s hardly something that would “change things forever”.. the city can be rebuild with a bit of spare wood, I fail to see any permanent damage other then a big hole in the harbor.
So instead of answers and closure, we get another two week kittentease of boss farming before we get another shot at answers and closure, which I am fairly sure will be 80% tease for the next episode, 10% pointless trifle and 10% answers to questions remaining open, if we’re lucky.
From a technical viewpoint, I can say the content update is well done. And while I am disappointed that we’re back at mindless boss zerging again, at least the knights are packing a rather nasty punch.
From a story point aspect though? No, I find myself bitterly disappointed. We learned next to nothing other then something a braindead skritt would have been able to guess from these oh so very subtle hints that were dropped along the story. We got that one big, blatantly obvious answer. And the things and questions that actually mattered weren’t even answered. Thanks a lot Braham.
So the witch is dead. Yay. Excuse my lack of joy, I’m too busy drowning my disappointment in pudding.
