Only a WvW player would grudgingly take time from playing to buckle down for work, yet still sneak on the forums every chance available to read the threads. Even then they still feel like they are cheating on their server for not being in there playing.

Here is something I ran across that is a direct interpritation of Sun Tzu’s Art of War. Though it is directly applied to the principles of MMO gaming. I created a playlist using itunes. Saved it. Named it using the list on the link (ambient, etc). And put it in the proper folder.

I only changed the music for character select screen, battles and boss battles because i otherwise like the GW2 music and i didnt want to lose all of it.

It for me made the already enjoyable wvw… insanely fun.

After conferring with Grand General Walken and Supreme Commander Busey . (In reality they are both drunk as lords sitting in a back booth at the ‘Spread Eagle and Whippet’ pub on EBBL). They have both suggested for FA to enlist none other than General Bruce ‘Badazz’ Campbell to fight for your servers cause!

Since the dust seems to have settled a bit, I want to offer a perspective from the bleacher seats. I have barely been able to play this past week due to r/l stuff. Though I have avidly followed our battle from reading here. Fortunately I am already a devotee of WvW. Because if I were someone in our PvE communities considering trying out WvW and trying to talk my guild-mates into jumping into WvW I would run in the opposite direction, if this past couple of days posts were all I had to go on.

Mind you I am just a plain old PuG, a little no body that has no inside knowledge of whatever server grudges and politics surrounding all of the past days… vitriol and dare I say pettiness. I am simply trying to do my best to learn how to become a better player in WvW. I came from a purely PvE background and fell in love with this style of PvP that GW2 provided. The very same as many folks watching and reading about this interesting and challenging world of WvWvW. We should ask ourselves if what has been displayed is representative of the reality?

When actually playing in the BL’s I have never run across the childish displays I’ve seen in here. I have had my hat handed to me by so many players from both FA and TC, and each time it’s been a fun battle and I learn something with each spike through the head. FA and TC, you’re both great servers and fun loving communities with so many great guilds that are the best kind of teachers. The ones that teach the hard lessons that in my experience are the ones that stay with you. I can’t imagine sneering at someone that will participate in helping me to become a better player and always shows up for the lessons. Dang guys! We are so lucky here in T2 to have such able competition! Don’t whiz in our own well.. since it poisons the water for yourselves too.

As we begin this next week of our tiers competition I am asking each of you and myself included to remember, lots of folks are paying attention and instead of showing how snarky we can be, let’s show them what WvW really is. Brutal, hard, epic fights full of amazing groups of people and great guilds all working hard for their servers. I already know FA and TC for the tough, respectable and honorable competitors you are on the battlefield. How about we all show those folks that don’t play WvW yet and those who might be considering making one of our fine communities their new home our real side, instead of a bunch of pointless squabbling that hurts us all.

I’d like to see Anet come out with WvW only Tabbards that say, " The COOKIEs are NOT a lie!" Or even cloaks. That way we WuvWuv’s can actually have something special just for our segment of the community.

I am going to refrain from making any predictions. Most of what I see posted here aren’t serious predictions, but more taking a shot at Anet due to built up frustration. And while many of those frustrations have a valid basis, it’s obviously not garnering the response that is hoped for.

As for expectations, much of what has already been listed here I would echo, or at the very least hope for. Though even before those things such as the Culling, Lag and UI functionality, I would ask ArenaNet to please set aside their own frustrations with us the player base. I am not foolish enough to think that your jobs are at all easy, and I am certain that being barraged at every turn has embittered many of you towards your players. It’s never an easy task to address such a large and obviously devoted mass of people. However, it is probably one of the most basic marketing issues any company in a service industry can deal with and the most daunting.

With that being said, perhaps the single most meaningful thing that a company can do is to maintain an approachable and clear information exchange with your customer base. Once customers realize they are being avoided and are not being ‘directly’ addressed via the very structure the company puts in place to impart information, ie: Arena Net’s very own forum, your customers become angry and suspicious. Then we arrive at the state we currently have here. Frustrated moderators (doing a largely thankless task) trying to keep a lid on the boiling over situation that is currently here in the WvWvW forums.

In customer service and marketing, perception is vastly important. While this seems the most obvious of statements, it is an elusive balance to maintain, much less to return your current customer base to a state of trust again. To achieve this seems much harder than it actually is though. Simply put, open the lines of communication and do not be stingy and evasive with that information. You already know that we the customers are huge fans, and we are going to speculate on the information we receive. Then why not make that information as clear and concise as you are able. This way when we excitedly discuss which updates and changes your teams are working on, we can do so with fact and not wild speculation.

Next is to engage your customer/fan base into HELPING your team. For instance, if your team is noticing something wonky going on such as a glitch in the meshing for a keep door or something that we would encounter while in the game world. Use our eyes and experiences to your teams advantage. Player based volunteers or “Realm Assistant” could be chosen from players who meet a criteria that your team of Devs and management decide upon to ensure that those volunteer positions are not going to be abused. This would free up massive amounts of time for the folks that are currently having to wade through, dare I say thousands, of “reports” each day. For instance, someone opens a report ticket on an issue they are having, the assigned “Realm Assistant” would get a PM. The “RA” (for short), would then log into the extra character slot assigned for this purpose. Then the player reporting the issue would get a whisper from the “RA” to clarify the issue. Even perhaps go with the player to look into whatever the issue is, say if it is a terrain problem or something.

In this way, your dedicated players who are realm citizens in good standing and wish to give something extra for their community can help YOU and free up your development teams and support team. While at the same time creating an atmosphere of an open and clear line of communication. It would enable ArenaNet to know with some certainty you are getting accurate information and your customer base is reassured that their issues are heard and acted on in a timely manner. (This of course would have to be anonymous with a non-disclosure agreement). There are various way to implement this effectively.

I apologize for the wall of text, but this has been on my mind for sometime. I truly enjoy GW2 and wish to see the rift that I am seeing be repaired. ArenaNet has created a wonderful game with some amazing design. Please allow us your customers and players to become a help and not a hinderance to future ideas and developments. If this meeting of the minds can be reached, you will find grateful and willing minds and hands to help in any way that is needed to keep this great game healthy and growing. Thank you for your time in reading this.. if you got this far. Now let’s go take some keeps!

I agree with the sentiment of loving T2. It offers everything WvW’rs like best. Great fights no matter the group configuration and very capable opponents to test ourselves and grow our skills.

That being said, I believe what Chill is getting at is to not become complacent and loose sight of the goal that was set back when Kai was just getting started up the tiers. As to when we reach that goal is entirely beside the point. Being in tier 2 is healthy for our server currently, by focusing our strengths and taking to heart the lessons we learn from our opponents each week. I am sure we will reach T1, and I for one hope this is later rather than sooner, since T2 is providing exactly what is needed for us and hopefully for our other T2 servers as well.

My hope is that the equilibrium that is occurring here in T2 will continue to expand as each tier begins to find it’s right opponents, while also providing the experience to move upwards as teams develop into more cohesive units. I would like for everyone that plays WvW as their focus to enjoy their tier as much as we in T2 are experiencing, and still looking forward to testing what the next tiers challenges might bring. For myself, trying for something just out of my reach keeps it fresh and makes me want to work just a little harder and strive just a bit more each week. If we fail, so be it, it’s in the striving I find my heart is most content.

Great fights tonight inside Hills on TC borderland. Kaineng would come in then Tarnished coast then one after the other was great fun. I haven’t had fights like that in a long time. Loving tier 2 compared to the second job that is tier 1.

I would like to give a hearty /Saaaalute to all the SOS and FA players tonight in KBL! Great fights the entire 5+ hours I spent in there. Our Guild had a blast trying to keep our mitts on the camps in the North, you all really kept us on our toes. Mind you we only had maybe 8 or so of us in tonight, but everyone commented on what fun fights we got.

On FABL…can honestly say the Talon guild is equal to anything I’ve seen on T1 during NA coverage. Should be an interesting week with good fights, hope we can keep moral up.

I agree they are very well coordinated. I haven’t had the chance to battle them as yet, since I’m waiting to get in there atm…~grrr queues/shrug~ Though I watched several of their videos and was impressed! Some of their maneuvers look similar to some of our heavy hitter guilds. Good stuff.

Are you asking about the characters ‘hit-box circumference" ? If that’s what you’re getting at you are probably used to the disparity of that size from playing WoW. Since the circumference of the hitbox is quite a bit different for say a gnome to a Tauren. However that’s another game. afaik, there isn’t that much of a difference in GW2, or at least none that I’ve noted to any degree.

I have a question for the lower WvW participation servers. Do you regard all transfer people/guilds with such scorn? I simply do not understand the vitriol here?

The thing I find so odd about the ‘apparent’ lack of concern for WvW, is the live participation of some of Anets own crew. It seems from recent commentary that many of them do actually play in WvW. So it would seem that they enjoy this aspect of the game they’ve developed?

Then to read this interview (props to the interviewer for getting right to it!) and see more of the same side-stepping of the actual problems (lets not dress them up by calling them ‘issues’) in this segment of the game. Though I was pleased to see that Mike did confirm what we all suspected about the stealth queue reductions we all experienced.

It just saddens me to see that a game with such high aspirations and promises of " Epic, large scale battles" is now waffling about what the definition of that means. Heck, I don’t even expect “Epic” any longer, I simply expect clear, concise fact and truth. Period.

In any case, I hope that the Anet folks that are in WvW playing, give some insights and perspective to the guys and gals doing the development. Hopefully to offer advice on actual fixes and what it’s really like to play in there on busy nights.

Guilds came to Kaineng for various reasons. It is actually easier for new transfers to fit into Kaineng, since many people had experienced the same thing. Moving to Kaineng is like moving to Canada.

I am in Canada and I approve of this comparison! With the disclaimer that Kaineng has better weather. ;P

Oh and Jayne from TC gave me her cookie recipe! plus plus.. I have Supreme Commander Chris Walken locked in to represent us*.

*(the actual Mr. Walken has not been harmed in any way during our negotiations. Simply fed a diet of cookies and champangyne, until he succumbed to my wiles. lol)

Before coming to Tier2 I had never really met any TC’rs before. Admittedly I was skeptical that a RP(ish) server could bring the fight…Boy oh Boy was I wrong! Not only are they some of the best I have ever encountered in WvW, but the class and humor they bring to a match is inspiring. Really, I am not kidding here!

So, if your guild is looking for a new home, please consider TC. I would love to see them have a bit more coverage. Believe me when I say the ONLY reason TC isn’t T1 already, is coverage. Because they certainly have the skills! Not to mention that Jayne makes the bestest cookies!!

Until Anet makes a call on this issue. Let’s all focus on what we ourselves can do. Sweep your keeps, or as a pretty awesome commander once told me,
“Keep your camps and camp your keeps”.

I for one am always willing to sweep and stay behind for some good defense. I know I’m kinda weird, but I like siege and defense. I giggle when I get my trebs sighted in well. I lol even more when I do find one of my fellow pesky thieves in MAHHH keep/tower/anywhere. I know I’m still rather new to all the ins and outs of WvW and therefore a noob, but I respect our match-up servers far too much to not be willing to hunt them down and give them *hugs ~ g~

I enjoy your videos Orcommander! They are always hilarious and informative. It’s kind of refreshing to hear the ongoing commentary as the battle progresses.
