Working as intended. You want free stuff? Fight for it.
If you fight for it…it is not free. But I see where you are going here.
I also think it is really funny that I noticed this thread. I think I have been to the WvW section once. Don’t know what brought me here yesterday, but glad I did.
Down with Sorrow’s Furnace, lol.
LOLOL this thread made my day. My wife and I were trying to get the last 6 kills for her monthly progress. I was like….lets all hide here, as a joke, and it was even funnier, because one of the guys pet kept running out, LOL. Anyway, she did get her last kill there so thanks for that.
Next time we’ll try to be more sneaky.
The fact that et and hod are even out there fighting speaks volumes about thier character.
Thanks. I have been saying every week to my guild since early October, “Well we will drop a tier and do better next week”. Had good hopes about this week, but oh well.
We will drop a tier and hopefully do better next week.
I am on HoD, and have been since Beta. I feel bad for SF players who are long time players. Likely the same thing will happen to you as happened to HoD, unless servers are locked soon. You will climb high, then the “groups” that carried you there well bail and you will be left to free fall.
As to how far we will fall before “Trying”? Me and my guild regularly work on WvW, but it is dishearteing and boring to get on and have a 25 man group that can’t take more than a camp or two because the invaders own 98% and can stand around looking for crossed swords, port to their fully upgraded everything and stomp you before 25 people can take down an upgraded tower door with 3 rams.
There have been time I get on in the evening and can’t even take a camp because there are invaders guarding them with siege.
Again, I feel bad for “true” Sorrows Furnace people, but I hope people with the attitude of the OP get stung by bees.
…when you read a thread that has been posted 80 times.
Seriously, find yourself a goal, lol. Tons of fun things to do. I will mail you an ecto RIGHT now if you show me that you have explored 100% of Tyria, or a set of exotic armor/weps.
Do all the jump puzzles.
Yes. Recent games played/purchaced:
D3: $60 ~100 hours. Liked it for lore, recommend….meh.
Portal 2: $50 ~20 hours. Absolutely loved it, reccomend….YES!!
GW2: $70 ~760 hours. Even if I never played it again, I’d say I got my moneys worth.
That’s about $0.09 per hour. I’d like anyone to find me an activity cheaper than that. (My hobby is breathing, does not count)
Agreed. I have a feeling that additional mat storage is coming, but I hope that they also add some type of storage for other collectible items like dungeon tokens, badges of honor, and globs of ectoplasm.
if it helps some people, and doesn’t hurt others.. i hope. ; )) it’s kinda like wearing your lucky underwear on a big day. i’m personally going for the 1x recipe now and slowly amassing my shards and other mats.
quick and silly question, since i haven’t used the forge much. so say i have stacks of each item. and i just double click / drag them into the mystic forge. usually the entire stack goes into the 4 slots. if the recipe, for the 1x recipe for e.g. only uses up 1 of each and 6 stones… when i hit forge, it’ll take exactly that amount right?
in other words, i don’t have to separate the amounts manually using Alt + drag, etc?
and OP, may the lights of luck shine upon you soon.
You can just drag the who stack in. It will only use one each combine.
Also on a more positive note…I took a look at my “failure” vs Clover rates and based on the current TP prices, The cost to craft the 53 clovers (ecto prices) was about 52g, but the value of the t6 mats I have gotten is almost 46g. That works out to about 11s each. Probably one of the cheapest items for the legendary.
(This is discounting the monetary value of the obby shards, coins, and skill points. I feel that I can do this due to the fact that I earn them for free while working on other things, farming, dungeons, etc)
I have done 205 combines and have 53 clovers to show for it. That is roughly 1 in 4. Here are some of the spreads I got.
8 combines in a row 5 clovers.
11 combines in a row 0 clovers.
3 combines in a row 3 clovers.
18 combines in a row 0 clovers.
5 combines in a row 4 clovers.
6 combines in a row 4 clovers.
4 combines in a row 3 clovers.
As you can see, spells of good luck and spells of bad. You good sir have had a nasty spell O’ the bad. Hope you get a nice good spell soon. Cheers!
As for the Balthazar Event being so tricky, I am just patiently waiting for guesting to be implemented. Once it is it shouldn’t be too hard to pick a server to be the “Balthazar” server and get anyone who wants shards to guest from all over and bang it out on a regular basis.
I know that I have read the transmuting a precursor breaks it…do not do it (if you want a legendary).
she really thinks she’s awesome?
That’s the spirit! Lets encourage their community interaction by being petty and mean whenever they give us updates. Well played!
On topic, I’m hoping the scavenger hunt includes multiple phases. Such as collecting trophies from all over, (low and mid level areas as well to get more people out and about), slay the Teq, Claw of J, and Shatterer dragons in 1 day. Stuff like that.
I think his point was that you need 525,000 Karma for the 250 Shards. PLUS you need roughly 250 more for the clovers. All in all you will need around 500 shards total. Whether you buy them via karma or fractal relics. My point was that it is cool that we don’t have to do all one or all the other. Variety, spice of life and all that.
I thought I has seen this question answered before, but I cannot find it with the search.
Can you change the sigil on a precursor and still have it work for the legendary? I am pretty sure that you can, however I am nervous for very (100’s of gold) obvious reasons, lol.
I already have my clovers so I do just need the 525k to finish up.
correction…I have the karma and supplies for my clovers (about 600k atm) just need to pwn the temple of Balth. Know any good solo mesmer builds? It seems that may be my only route, lol.
I definitely plan on using any relics I get to buy Obsidian shards, however, I will have 525,000 karma from daily reward jugs long before I could get the 3750 fractal relics it would take.
/agree however on the “Yay for other means of of obtaining them!” It helps to bring the goal posts a few miles closer.
• Separate Currency Systems for WvW ( like kamar Points), only obtainable in WvW.
• All Siege equipment purchase using WvW Currency.
Though a WvW currency I am all for.
Badges of Honor…
May or may not be coincidnece, but maybe they upped server caps a bit due to the free demo weekend…So people can play with their friends.
I recall then at some point saying “not to worry” about playing with friends you invite.
Gehenna kind of mentioned what I was thinking. You can’t let the knowledge that because things might go away you can’t enjoy them now. Life is fleeting.
Enjoy the fall leaves even thought they trees will soon be bare.
Enjoy your kids even though they will grow up an move away.
Enjoy your dog/cat even though it will probably die long before you do.
Even if GW1 does cease to run, I will always have the 7 years of memories I got with that game. Maybe even more so than other people, as I played GW1 with my wife for those 7 years and it was fun as well as a bonding experience for us. Whether it ends in 2 years, 20 years, or 2 months, don’t let that stop you from enjoying something at the present. Now…if you actually don’t care for GW2, I can’t help you there, find something you DO like and love that instead. Hope that helps.
If you start adding gravity and anti-gravity elements, you risk worm-holes and rips in the space time continuum….nobody wants to see that.
Also this quote from Chris Whiteside:
“Ascended and infusion rewards will be available in both PvE and WvW over time, and be made available through all sorts of content around the world including existing content.”
Would be pretty easy to add Ascended items to the vendors….600 tokens for an ascended whatever for example.
The map completion seems possible. I could see you doing it in two weeks. (If you rush through everything.) Prices were much lower back then. So the money is possible. Her friends were possibly gold sellers. Who knows.
yeah map completion can be done in a week, but the karma is what i find hard to believe. She also had very broken English which leads me to assume (I’m not trying to be racist) she could be associated with gold sellers as 98% of gold sellers i have seen speak very poor English.
That’s a very narrow minded view i know.
Just a question…why would a gold seller blow that much gold on a vanity wep by soul binding it? You might argue that they are a gold buyer, but that is different. You don’t need broken-english to buy gold.
Not specifically an answer but not infrequently I get an Ori or Ancient wood off of a lvl 80 item with a 88c Basic Kit. Basic kits are all I ever buy, and I have probably gotten over a dozen if each of the t6 mats using them.
Don’t forget the 4s fee to WP in and out if you want to check if people are there/trying.
Explorers Kraktastic Sword….where do I get mine?
Why is everyone panicking? The time was always going to come where those that are stronger, more dedicated players get rewarded for being that way. Think of this as raising the level cap based on skill alone and you get the idea.
Also, why would the devs make it so that all dungeons apart from the new one give you obsolete gear? Expect either present dungeon rewards to change or the ability to upgrade exotics.
This ^
Rememer the ability to “Infuse” armor in GW1. I am betting that the Ascended armer is merely “Upgraded” exotics. Take a few deep breaths before you reformat your HD to remove GW2 from it.
Me and a friend have managed to farm up 6 charged lodestone between the two of us in the past 3 days. We farmed sparks after completing the Zephrys Temple. The are hard to come by, but not impossible. From what i have read and our experience 1 per hour is possible (over time…you won’t get 1 ever hour, on the hour). I also made over a gold each time we farmed it just from the huge number of greens, few golds, and Opal Shards/Crystals.
Get out there and get farming.
And if you don’t like farming….maybe a legendary isn’t for you.
You can give it to me
I need only 5 gold to buy abyss dye and I am frustrated that my wealth never even pass 2 golds.
How do you people gather those much golds anyway? (no, I already know the answer – playing TP – selling mats – farming orr – etc etc, none of them works for me)For what it’s worth, farming copper in queensdale and selling to highest buy order should easily earn you those 5g in a few hours. I earned my 30g without playing TP, without farming anything and by simply enjoying the game while not buying useless stuff. I play around 2 hours a day and easily make 2g in that time.
All the gold I spent currently was on:
- 80s on yellow gear
- 5g on orange weapons
- 2g or so on crafting
- upkeep: repairs, wp, …..Earning gold while playing to enjoy the game:
- focus on the daily
- do events when possible
- harvest whatever you find and just sell it if you don’t have a use for it. Even the copper from copper ore adds up quickly.
- salvage salvage items with basic salvage kit, not higher. It doesn’t give better drops so that’s wasted money!
- sell anything that’s not yellow to the vendor
- check price for exotics and rares on TP and sell to highest bidder if the price is good
- do not die lol so you don’t need to repair
- drop of all gold except 30s in the bank at the end of the day and don’t pick up money from TP unless you bought an item. Money you don’t see is money you don’t spend.
- whatever you need, check whether it can be bought for karma instead of goldWhile those won’t make you rich fast, these tips will add up over time and you’ll have the money to buy yourself something cool every few hours.
All very good advice. Also be careful with your WP costs. It is possible to get anywhere in the game from anywhere for just a little over 2s. Mapping from Cursed Shore to Frostgorge Sound will cost you 4s+, but if you travel thru the mists and go from there you cut the price in half. It is over 3s to go to CS from LA, but if you use the asura gate to The Grove, the cost become 2s 6c. Doesn’t seem like a ton, but if you save 1-2s per WP and you WP 4-6 times per day you could save as much as 1.2 to 3.6 gold per month. Money not spent is money in the bank. Like marnick said…these things will not make you uber wealthy or buy you a precursor next Tuesday, but for a casual player saving money here and there will add up fast.
I too have been mutilated by them, but that doesn’t really answer the question. Would getting hit by 10x be an instagib, or just provide enough cover that I could not get away in time?
A better example would be if you have 4, 5, 8, whatever the magic number is inside a keep/tower could those people lay down a rain of death that was completely impenetrable without countering with other siege? ie. no zerg of any size would be able to overwhelm it, as they are all killed near instantly upon entering the area.
I am curious about how the damage of arrow carts work. Do multiple carts stack damage, or merely expand the area of effect? See the attached image for a better idea of what I mean.
LOL, I’ll bump this once, but it seems like I have stumped everyone. Or there is no such beast.
I believe that the level scaling is somewhat different at lower levels. I maxed 2 crafting profession on three alts that were freshly created. All they did was the intro quest and port to LA. After maxing 1 profession they were each lvl 16 after 2 maxed lvl 26.
You get enough experience for 10 levels normally, but i think that while you are low level it takes less to go from 2-3, 3-4 etc (keep in mind it does scale, still just differently).
I didn’t do any testing to check my theories really; just what I noticed while crafting on low level characters.
I would have to say this: Don’t judge a Mesmer by gameplay at less the level 40-50. I found it very difficult early on, especially playing alongside my wife (ranger) who could seemingly take on 2-3x what I could and walk away without breathing hard.
Once you start getting some of the higher traits it makes a huge difference in damage and survivability. As a lvl 80 mesmer I can routinely solo 3-6 mobs at a time(depending on foe type) in frost gorge sound, and 2-3 in CS.
Does anyone have any suggestions for a build/trait spec that can be used with a couple armor setups?
For example I like to use MF gear when I am out and about, doing my dalies, farming nodes and whatever. I also would like to have a non MF exotic set to use for dungeons and more difficult situations.
What I am looking for is a build and armor set up that works well with both a MF armor setup and a non-MF armor set, without having to go to a trainer and re-spec my trait lines each time.
Any thoughts?
3 times.
Once on a human mesmer.
Twice on a human ranger.
I am at work and can’t do this right now, but one possible way to “calculate” size would be using travel time. Estimating walking/jogging speed (several websites I checked suggest around 6 mile/hour) gives a way to convert time to distance.
For example it might (just guessing) take you 12 minutes to cross a map from north to south and 10 minutes from east to west. A speed of 6 miles per hour is .1 miles per minute. That would make that zone roughly 1.2 miles by 1 mile.
I think that is estimating somewhat high as I don’t think it takes 12 minutes to run across any map (if you don’t stop to fight or get crippled alot).
Because the run speed is such an important factor a much more accurate way to calculate run speed would be to derive it in-game.
Find a nice long straight spot (bridge, fence, etc.) and estimating your character height (I assume mine is around 6 feet) walk along the bridge or what ever in distances about your height and count them. If the bridge is 16 “me’s” long that would make it 96 feet. Then you run that distance a few times and time it. If it takes 6 seconds you now have a speed in feet per second, easily convertible to miles/hour.
Vote: New GW2 Profession to go with Engineer….Land Surveyor.
I come at this from the point of view of an avid GW1 title hunter. I loved title hunting, that is what kept me hooked to GW1 for 7 years with max of 2 months off. I had 4 GWAMM characters and every single non-PvP title attainable, and every non-pvp statue in my HoM. But thing back to when GW1 titles were introduced. I think there were 5…Cartographer, Protector, Skill Hunter and I forget the others…
Anyway just enought to get “Kind of a Big Deal” (5 maxed). After all the expansions there were a total of 37 maxible titles for PvE alone.
I am not worried about number of titles at this point, I have a feeling that at some point in the future they will add more and/or do a major title update like they did in GW1 when they added GWAMM and many of the others.
I’m still uncertain as to why the Legendary weapons are more about gold grind than in-game achievement. Gifts akin to the Gift of Mastery make sense. 600-800g+ in materials seems like a not-so-subtle attempt to coerce players into buying Gems.
I actually LOL’ed at this…every time people say “A-Net just wants to FORCE people to buy gems” a little piece of me dies.
Not because I am a “How DARE you attempt to besmirch the name of A-Net” type person. Do you realize that 600-800g converted from gems is $750-$1000. IF you get 1g per 100 gems which you can’t…so it actually cost even more.
NO ONE…count them…NO ONE…is going to spend $1000 on a legendary skin…OK maybe 2 people. So there ya go, A-Net made enough to pay their seckitteny for 2 weeks.
Anyone who drags out the old-dead horse of A-Net just wants to coerce people into buying gems, only shows their lack of understanding and common sense. Gem sales are designed to make them some extra money and for people to get some items, while yes you can get some gold from it, it is obvious that it is not intended to be used to buy everything the game has to offer. It is simply way too expensive.
Edit: LOL, apparently s e c kitteny is too hot of a word for the forums to handle.
Edit #2: Checking thesaurus …ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT!!!
(edited by Skar Hand.5037)
It is the same recipe for each level:
I forget the order, but you’ll get the drift:
2 Slivers = 1 Fragment
2 Fragments = 1 Shard
2 Shards = 1 Core
2 Cores = 1 Lodestone
And each level requires the same other 3 ingredients: 1 Crystal, 1 Elonian Wine, 1 Dust (of level equal to the sliver/shard/fragment)
So to make 1 lodestone from Slivers it would take 16 slivers 15 crystals, and 15 elonian wine (at 25s60c each that is almost 3.8g alone)
So…not really viable.
Edit: Fixed calc.

Didn’t anyone just try hiting ‘enter’ atfer you put the number in, no the hardest thing to figure out.
It isn’t intuitive…where else in the game (or in computing) do you press enter and click both? When you chat you press enter to submit. When you used to type in a number in the craft UI you just clicked craft. When you deposit gold in your bank you type the number you want, then click deposit. When you search in the TP you don’t have to type in your search, then press enter, then click search.
Usually, in most places, it is either/or…either you type something then click a “submit” or you type and press enter. Not both.
I crafted a bunch yesterday, and never once did I think, “oh, try pressing enter, then craft”. It is possible to do, and I will now, but it just didn’t cross my mind before I read about it.
I honestly have to believe this was a troll thread…even my 6 year old knows better then to say “I’ll never (XYZ), it’s NOT FAIR”.
Seriously, lol. I think somebody needs a spanking. Or at the very least a time out…
Over time yes…But the beauty of crafting is the ability to gain 10 levels in an hour or less.

Yep. “Connection Errors, Retrying”
What else are you going to do with gold?
How could A-net possibly be expected to prevent anyone/everyone from messing up by being careless?
If you are careless, you should lose out on stuff. Or maybe they could put a “Hand Holding Golem” in the gem store that just prompts you every time you do any action, “Have you thought about the consequences of that action?”, “Are you sure you want to sell that broken lockpick?”, Are you sure you want to attack that Rabbit?"
If you think you go out there and experience the world as intended, and will reach anywhere close to 1 million karma, you are playing a very different game.
This is not true. I am a semi-casual player. I just get on for fun, but I have set myself the goal of getting a legendary weapon before any expansions come out (1-year is my assumption)
So far I have not even made it to Orr yet, or rather spent much time there. I have about 15% of Melchior’s Leap. I do daily’s and monthly’s, and pretty much just play with guildies doing whatever needs doing. In a month and a half, with only 1 lvl 80 character I have gotten almost 200k karma. Just playing and using no karma boosts.
That puts me 1/5 of the way to 1 million karma. Once I do get to Orr, I will probably do a bit of karma farming to speed it up, but even if I don’t 1.5 million karma can be obtained in 11 months at the rate I am earning it.
If you are trying to get a Legendary FAST, do not try this method, lol. But I think (depending on obtaining a precursor) that it will possible to get one within a year. All while experiencing the world “as intended”.
Congrats!! Well done.
