Well buddy if you’ve got pockets full of full stacks of exotic essences of luck, then keep some and throw out the rest. Maybe make an alt and put them in their inventory? Y’know, a mule.
Well unfortunately, attempting to join part way through is not possible, because the map fills up and I just end up on an empty one that didn’t do the pre event. :/
Maybe next time I’ll stay on the map but far enough away that I can’t accidentally get involved in the fight, then run in at the last minute. I don’t know. It sounds ideal, but almost too good. Like I’d get that lucky with a group event achievement that requires multiple squads, lol.
(edited by SmirkDog.3160)
Just dump it. I’m up to my ears in stuff like Bloodstone Dust, but it’s not worth it to keep it so I just throw it away.
And doesn’t Artificer use essences of luck?
The problem is, its hard to get into raids unless you play Meta..
Then do what all the Good Players do and find a bunch of people who don’t care about the dumb meta and just want to play the game together. Like play it for yourself, not for other people. Duh.
This may be new information, but you can actually play however you want. Playing a certain way because that’s what the ~~~meta~~~ is and all the Cool Players tell you to is dumb.
Yeah most people with auras have like 5 stacked on each other and it looks crappy as heck. And like why would I want particle effects obscuring the view of my character.
I mean, I’m all for everyone having access to certain types of content, but also maybe make them less ugly and annoying while you’re there. And let me choose to not see it.
I expected this to be interesting, and thought it might be when I saw what you think of Guardians, but then it immediately devolved into (mostly) single word opinions of the classes and the people that play them. I can do that.
Every class that isn’t a Revenant with Herald elite spec: Badâ„¢
You’re right, this is fun.
With no-fly zone you can get lucky with it. If you get onto the map with only about 1/4 of Shatterer’s health left and you take part in the last part of the flight, then there’s a chance that Shatterer won’t attempt to take off again before the end of the fight. I think that will count as the achievement for you since Shatterer hasn’t made it into the air since you’ve been there.
I’d like to be hopeful about that, but it seems too convenient. And getting into a map with an active Shatterer fight near the end seems unlikely, since I don’t know how full the map usually gets. But I can always give it an attempt.
You probably dont have the most toughness out of every single player in the game. You certainly do not pull aggro from every player in the game.
You also dont outlive everyone’s, “precious,” berzerker against any foe either..
You are tougher than some, perhaps many, and do draw aggro, depending on mob, as a result.
You are not forced to be a tank, aggro control or not.
Well you’d be surprised to see that I pull enemies away from everyone that I run past or those that run past me. I can join group events halfway through and the boss (if possible) will target me immediately and not target anyone else.
And it sounds like you’re one of those people that thinks if you don’t have Berserker stats then you’re playing the wrong way. But yeah, I’ve outlived everyone I’ve played with. I’ve been the designated picker-upper since everyone else would go down in a couple hits because they think DPS Elementalists with daggers are the Best Thing Ever.
But you see, if I’m a tank, why don’t I have tank skills, like ones that specifically draw aggro? I don’t know if you’ve played any other MMOs, but having high armour alone doesn’t make you a tank. Tanks get skills that generate aggro, and if they don’t use those skills then someone else will start getting attacked, like a healer or something.
Other world bosses like Tequatl have achievements that can be done fairly easily with a little time and multiple runs, but No-Fly Zone and Smash the Dragon are way more difficult compared to the rest of the achievements required to get the Branded Backpiece.
A friend that’s done the fight quite a lot says that people hate doing the fight in general and the only way a group can get Smash the Dragon is with like 3 commanders all extremely organized, and all I’ve seen is regular players just mashing 1 and none of them have ever even heard of crowd control because they think power+precision solves everything. And I can’t even get the other one because apparently in all the times I’ve fought it they’ve only broken its defiance bar once.
I know they have 11 achievements and only 10 need to be completed to get the backpiece, but it still requires doing at least one achievement that involves way more coordination than any regular player is going to get. I shouldn’t have to gather the entire community just for one achievement that’s unusually difficult compared to the rest.
Can’t they add another achievement that we could do instead? Like actually using the turrets or mortars to kill x amount of branded or something? ‘Cause at this rate, I don’t think I’ll ever be getting that backpiece. And I can’t log in every 3 hours every day for weeks or months in hopes that maybe people will actually try.
You’re the victim of artificial stupidity, so that GW2 can be like all the cool MMO kids with their stupid outdated tanking mechanics. They might as well make enemies focus their CCs on whoever has the most stab.
Hey quick question, who urinated in your breakfast this morning?
I asked for clarification (which other people gave, albeit not in the most civil way), so it’s really not necessary to be rude about it.
Anyway…. if it is about toughness, how in the world do I have the most toughness out of every single player in the game. I use Soldier’s stats for my Herald. It’s the reason why I can outlive everyone’s precious Berserkers against any enemy, but that doesn’t mean I want to be a tank. I’m there to give boons and keep everyone else alive, not be a tank. Why can’t there be a more clear aggro system. It shouldn’t be determined by 8 or more vague concepts simultaneously. If there’s no rigid party roles, why am I forced to be a tank without any actual aggro control.
Every enemy that someone attacks first will always attack me. Someone could be fighting a random mob on their own, and even at 1% health it will start fighting me if I run by within range. Every enemy will stop fighting whoever they’re fighting no matter the circumstances just to attack me.
Can ANet please tell us how aggro works so I can stop them from always pursuing me? It actually makes some stuff more difficult for me (like running around doing map completion or getting collectibles) because mobs I wouldn’t normally encounter will slow me down, and I can never get around them like I would with un-aggro’d mobs.
I expect people to tel me to stop whining or something, but I just want to know how or why it happens so I can may prevent it. I don’t enjoy being the main target for every possible enemy in the game.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen the Plush Ram Backpack set in the gem store, but the wiki says it’s been there. I’ve wanted to buy it forever.
I would really like an item that unlocks all waypoints for level 80 characters. Obviously it would ruin the exploration aspect of the game for low level characters, but I have 10 level 80 characters and having to run through all areas to re-unlock the waypoints for all of them sounds so tedious that I really only play on one character, the one that has world completion, because a lot of my others don’t have them.
Or maybe have it be an achievement unlock for world completion? A reusable item you can give to every character to unlock those waypoints for them? There’s already level boosts that can be obtained in multiple ways, so why not something like this.
How can you really master something if you only do a few things in the expansion?
Good point, how about an option to opt out of the mastery system entirely (or at least tuck it away somewhere so it’s not visible) for those who have no desire to “master” anything. Fair is fair, right?
If they actually can prove people are AFK that is.
It’s not hard to find out if someone is afk or not. Standing there, watching them get attacked without fighting back normally, but using the same aoe skill at regular intervals makes it pretty obvious. I spotted two necros with minions piled around the same tree yesterday, using the same skill at the same time, never moving. Some I even whispered, asking if they were afk. No answer. Not replying doesn’t help them, it just confirms that they’re obviously not there.
Point me in the right direction and I’ll report them. I love ruining someone’s fun ’cause they thought they found the quick and painless way to make money that, in most cases, is an exploit. Whinge all you want about it, but I love snitching on players like that.
A repeatable mastery line that gives mastery points would be great. I was just thinking of this earlier. As much fun as it sounds to go and do every out of the way achievement just to finish some of them sounds, I’d much rather just play the way I want and then unlock them that way. There’s no specific related requirement for each mastery (like glide 500 times to get a mastery point to unlock more gliding masteries or something), so why does it matter how I unlock them. I’d rather just play with my friends, level up (sort of), and get mastery points like skill/hero points and allocate them how I want.
A friend told me you could hide the gloves on the chef outfit, and I just confirmed in-game. Though there doesn’t seem to be any explanation as to why some allow it and others don’t.
I personally crafted my own legendaries (notice the plural form) but I couldn’t care less for a title to make myself feel like a special snowflake.
“Um it doesn’t matter that you crafted them yourself? Who cares. Bee-tee-dubz I made multiples, just saying. Not trying to brag or anything.”
Anyway, there are titles for dumber things (Honorary Skritt, anyone?), so I still don’t see why there can’t be one for crafting at least one legendary weapon.
Again, nitpicking my phrasing. Crafting, dumping it in the Forge, whatever. You take 4 things and you combine them somehow, getting a new thing. Also no thank you, I’d like a title for the one I’ve already made. I don’t want one of the new ones.
Pal, phrasing it in a way that doesn’t please you doesn’t mean I’m wrong. I guess I need to be extremely specific so people actually read my whole post instead of just nitpicking. My bad, clearly.
And you’re also incorrect, it’s for presenting two of the same one to an NPC. It doesn’t say anything about having to create them both.
There’s lots for collections (like Exotic Hunter and Grand Artisan), and one for **having two legendary weapons (Twice-Told Legend), so why isn’t there a title for just making one? Shouldn’t we be rewarded for taking the time to collect the materials to craft them instead of just buying them off the TP? Something like just ‘Legendary’ would be nice.
I’m sure the people that bought their legendary weapons will be annoyed by this thread, but I want to be able to show people that I crafted mine. Why make the reward the same regardless of how you got to the goal?
(edited by SmirkDog.3160)
It’s probably for the same reason people freak out when the option of making everyone look default and plain as a graphical setting comes up. They just want to show everyone their super obnoxious junk they paid lots of money for worked really hard to get, so they think other people should be subjected to it whether they like it or not.
Pal, my Herald runs Sentinel/Soldier gear, sword/shield and staff or hammer. Everything in the vicinity will attack me, even if I’m not fighting them. Doing chest runs in SW and someone aggro’d a random critter and led it to the pile of people trying to open a chest? It’ll immediately start fighting me. Something is fighting someone and I happen to run past? It’s attacking me now.
I’ve got aggro 24/7. Even if I’m not in the same map.
Why are people so against making it easier for other people to see things? I guess ‘cause it’s easy for you it must be easier for everyone else, huh?
Also the Halloween JP wasn’t technically moving. It was just an illusion. If you went too slow, you’d die. Similar to the Wintersday one. Weird, isn’kitten
(edited by SmirkDog.3160)
The wispy stuff made the Halloween JP a lot easier with regards to seeing stuff, so I don’t see why they don’t also do it for Wintersday.
And I agree on not letting you join an instance that only has 2 minutes left. In the bell choir, it’s already over by that point and you can’t actually get anything.
I was hoping to get a response from players that have also experienced the problem, and may have also fixed it. It might even be faster than submitting a ticket and wouldn’t bog down ANet’s support team. But sure, why not. You’re very helpful.
But not everyone can afford to pay $30 USD for just a single item and just bank the rest.
Yeah the same thing happened to me with the Lich outfit just after Halloween. Never did get it.
Why is that even an option. Why would we want to join to play “whatever [we] like” if there’s nothing to gain. I ended up in 4 instances in a row that were like that before getting one that wasn’t over. I thought they’d maybe fix that after all these years.
So a while ago, maybe about a month ago, I had a problem when starting the game where I wouldn’t be able to click or use any of the keys. If I was really fast, I might’ve been able to click a character to play, but once I was loaded in, I couldn’t do anything. I could only close the game by tabbing out and ending the process. I think I was able to remedy this by doing the repair thing, but only for a single time. So every time I wanted to start the game, I had to repair it.
I have since fixed that problem by reinstalling the game, but now have a new problem, also on startup. Now it just crashes as soon as I hit play. It opens a blank window and looks like it would load, but immediately disappears. Sometimes, if I try to start the game repeatedly, it would stay open, but stop responding and would have to be closed by force. This can also be remedied by repairing it, but I have to do it every single time, and it can take upwards of 10 minutes.
Is there a specific thing causing this problem? Does it happen to anyone else?
Let us buy the Raiment of the Lich outfit separately instead of in a bundle.
Bundles really only make sense if you can obtain most of the items individually, and it would be cheaper to buy the bundle if you wanted all the contents anyway. ANet please. Money’s been tight for me for the last 6 months (your house burning down will do that to ya), I can’t spend $30 USD just to get an in-game outfit right now.
But it’s there. And nearly every outfit I’ve seen has been part of those bundles and individually. I remember waiting forever for the Bandit Sniper outfit to come back, and when it did over the summer I was glad I could just get it on its own for 700 gems instead of getting the full thing.
ANet please add it as a separate buy option, not everyone can afford spending like $30 USD just to get the outfit they want.
I’ve been waiting through the whole Halloween event for the outfit to become available, and I thought it was so lucky that it was still added today, but it’s only in the bundle, and I really don’t want to buy ~2250 gems for it. I already have the Watchwork Mining Pick, I don’t want a Shared Inventory Slot, and I have all the dyes I need. And all the other outfits currently there (like the Ironclad and White Mantle) can all be purchases separately. Did I miss it?
While i don’t care about others showing their mastery levels or not, the ingame inspect option is a completely different matter. My dislike of it was never based on whether i need it or not – it’s because i’d rather not see it in the hands of others. And privacy options wouldn’t help here at all.
That doesn’t make any sense at all. Are you sure if what you’re trying to say here?
(edited by SmirkDog.3160)
Some people probably can’t even fathom why others would want these things, but just because someone doesn’t want the option for themselves, that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be available for other people.
I feel like a lot of people missed this part. Maybe you guys didn’t read the whole thing.
It’s okay though, I’m mostly hoping for dev input.
After being yelled at in the HoT subforum for my original idea (and I expect those same people to continue to harass me here), but also getting some new ideas from others, I thought this would be a better location for this suggestion.
There are players of all different types in this game, from the super casual and laid-back to the super hardcore. For a lot of players like myself, I don’t care much for my mastery level, and only level it up when I happen upon enough exp and mastery points to do so (which is pretty rare). It’s hardly related at all to most of the things I do, which is usually open world Central Tyria stuff with friends. As a result, I’d like the option to have my level show up in that spot instead of my mastery level. I don’t feel that it accurately represents me as a player (and shouldn’t affect the way others perceive me), and others may feel the same way.
Someone else had mentioned that they’d like the ability to examine people. Of course that would raise a lot of protests, so maybe it would be an interesting idea to add that as a privacy setting as well, by allowing players to toggle whether they want to let others examine their gear and maybe even stats.
This can be done with other things too, like hiding a player’s Achievement Points, maybe the gold star for world completion, etc.
Some people probably can’t even fathom why others would want these things, but just because someone doesn’t want the option for themselves, that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be available for other people.
Maybe in some areas certain privacy features could be toggled on by default and can’t be turned off (like PvP or WvW, I’m not sure because I don’t play either), like how gliding is disabled in instances and stuff.
Is it possible to get any input on this from devs to know if it’s possible??
(edited by SmirkDog.3160)
No one has said this. What a sad strawman. Also if you have 10k AP if never sat foot in a dungeon, you still have 10k AP, which means you have still played more than someone with 2k Ap.
You don’t get 10k in a short period of time. You had to do dailies for one thousand days at least, but the chances of that being your ONLY source of AP, are laughable.
So what you’re saying is that you proved my point, and that ignoring you doesn’t work. And I can’t exactly block you here, now can I?
You really like picking apart every little bit of what I say, and separate parts of sentences in order to make it look like something I said doesn’t make sense.
Anyway, I still want to hear a dev’s opinion on this. I’m a bit bored of hotshot tryhards ‘explaining’ to me why I’m wrong for asking the people who make the game if it would be possible to add a new feature. Maybe I’ll start a new thread and say I want responses from people at ANet or something. Of course, then I’d get told I’m not being fair to real players by excluding them from the conversation or some crap like that.
I judge people based purely on their appearances. Meaning if they have ugly armor or weapon skins, I don’t associate with them at all. I might even be a jerk about it.
Are you going to ask for a way to hide your appearances to thwart people like me?
No, you’re going to tell me I’m an idiot because my opinion doesn’t equal fact. It’s the same exact thing with Mastery Points, AP, or anything else in this casual game. GW2 is not based around numbers and gear; therefore, a metric like item level – which lets you judge whether people can perform at a glance – is not needed. There’s no way to know whether someone can play their class or execute fight mechanics at a glance; you must see them in action. At best, low MP/AP serves as a “warning signal”, but as long as you have any Masteries required for a fight, you’re fine.
You’re asking for the option, but as others have said, it doesn’t solve the problem you’re having. An option that doesn’t solve anything is a useless option.
Well to that my answer is what ArchonWing said:
Anyhow, on the matter at hand, I do think you should be able to hide various things including AP simply for the sake of privacy, not because people are going to be jerks or whatnot but because it should just be a choice.
You can yell over and over that hiding certain things won’t stop people, but you still forget that there’s a startling lack of privacy options. I don’t care about the ~~~meta-game~~~ (i.e. Lots of Damage Fast all the time), I don’t do raids, I’ve done fractals and dungeons occasionally if I wanted a specific item, but I always explicitly stated in the LFG thing that it was meant to be done at a leisurely pace because I don’t like rushing through content. Certain things, like my mastery level and AP, have no bearing on my experience in the content I play. I’ve played since the game came out, and have a full understanding of my classes and their roles (when I do take part in content with other people that aren’t friends). I don’t believe my mastery level or AP should define me, so I don’t want them to be visible on my character. Make your judgements based on my performance, not what you think my performance will be based on an arbitrary number.
And of course, before anyone comes to me to say AP isn’t arbitrary, consider this: Someone could have AP over 10,000+ or something, but have never stepped foot in a dungeon. But you’ll assume they’re super experienced with dungeons because they have a high AP. There’s very little correlation.
In my opinion, it doesn’t matter if a disable option is implemented or not. The people talking down to you are jerks and bullies, and they will continue to be so regardless. Hide mastery level, they will use something else. Maybe not having a Legendary or whatever new armor piece came out yesterday. Whenever they say something judgmental and stupid, ignore, block, or have your character point and laugh at them.
Except legendary weapons and gear that just came out yesterday mean nothing. Anyone with money can get a legendary weapon, and if you can acquire gear in one day it can’t be that special. Whereas even multiple people in this thread have claimed that Mastery and AP supposedly tell you how experienced someone is.
How about you let me deal with what happens if they still harass me after being able to hide certain things about my character.
Wrong, low AP usually reflects bad playing. But it isn’t a must. I don’t care about AP but usually if people have low AP they are significantly worse in dungeon runs than ppl with a couple of thousand AP.
Define ‘low’. Also I don’t think you can say AP means someone’s probably bad but then say you don’t care. If you didn’t care you wouldn’t have said any of that in the first place.
Well we can all agree to disagree. I still want a dev’s opinion, or the opinion of someone who actually has any control over it. I still want the option.
It’s funny though, that half of you say Mastery and AP don’t matter, while the other half insist that it does. So what’s the truth?
Ditto.
I think the berating would happen in face of joining Raids, Fractals or other higher difficulty groups. In town, I don’t hear much.
Without a damage meter or inspection technique, sadly people use whatever IS visible to shun seeming inferiors.
Finding a GOOD guild helps there. I have anxiety in the face of these issues. My guild is very laid back, even in challenging settings.
Also this.
(edited by SmirkDog.3160)
Except it won’t do anything. Those that are going to harass others over something arbitrarily are going to do so whether or not they can see your stats. They’ll even judge you based on not being able to see them.
This is also not taking into consideration the amount of programming that will likely be involved. If Anet can’t simply make the cutscene in Moltan boss fractal skipped easily, what makes you think they can go into the interface code and modify it so that certain items can be skippable easily? Is that really something that would benefit the player population rather than just a handful of players?
Why are you aggressively against people having the right to choose what things about their character they want to make public?
Clearly some of you missed the rest of the conversation with ProtoGunner. It progressed to being able to show or hide a number of things, such as gear (as in having your stats available to be viewed by others), AP, mastery level, etc.
It comes down to what each person would be comfortable with showing, if it were implemented.
No, I am for full transparency, I even would love to see other people’s gear like inspect in WoW.
Well then let that be an option too. Let people choose if they want their gear, AP, mastery level, world completion symbol-thing, etc. to be visible or not. Lots of things in games and on the internet have privacy settings you can toggle, like if you want your full name to be visible, or your birthday, things like that. It’s a thing that people have already experienced, and should have the option to toggle those things.
I would just really like my level number back instead. My mastery level says nothing about how I play, and I hardly ever level them because I never seem to have enough mastery points for Central Tyria stuff and don’t really like playing in the new maps usually in order to level the Maguuma ones. Let me choose whether I want to be represented by that, like a title.
Sure at first glance that would solve the problem….for ppl that get easily offended, and I can’t stand ppl like that. You have the power to create party for whatever content you like yourself.
With that being said, I always took everyone to any content even T4 fracs with below recommended AR and carried them if needed. Ppl are all different, so expect to be treated differently.
But again, I want the option to do so. As in, let people do with it what they want, if they want. Leave the consequences up to them. Why deny someone something that may make their experience better when it doesn’t even hurt anyone else.
