Prec/ condition DMg/toughness.. And a mix of carrion set… And rampager if u want

What items come with a prec/condition damage/ toughness combination ?

The best I can get from crafted gear is Power/Precision/Condition damage. Sapphires come with Healing/Power/Toughness, so I could go with them for my jewelry, but power/prec/condition damage on my armor and weapons.

Then there is the matter of upgrades to weapons/armor. I’m thinking Rune of the dolyak for armor. For sigils I’m trying to decide between blood (lifesteal chance on crit) or earth (bleed chance on crit).
Or would I be better slapping some gems into weapons and armor ?

Then all my complaints about legendary weapons are wrong. I’m happy to have that cleared up.

inb4 give us legendaries for free.

The most I would be doing was to ask ANET to reduce the stats on legendary weapons down to the same as exotics. Maybe remove the stats from them completely, just like HoM gear.

But I was wrong on that.

Now for level 80 “vanity” gear, thats part of the PvE end game. Remove that and there will be more complaints about lack of PvE end game in a PvP game.

There is no one in the thread asking to remove the “vanity” gear grind. We are asking for for a base set (doesn’t matter if it’s ugly) that will offer all the different exotic gear sets and put us on par. So we don’t have to GRIND to remain competitive.

We want a grind for looks, not a grind for stats.

Think of the ugliest skin in the game. Ugly it up a bit more. Then beat it with the ugly stick. As long as it’s affordable, and can come with any stat combination found on any exotic, it would satisfy our request.

If we play for any length of time, we will acquire better looking gear.

So far I know:
– I like the staff and how useful marks are in WvW. Which means at least 10 points in Death Magic for greater marks
– I like using wells. Especially the well of darkness. So 20 points in curses to make them ground targeted.
– I prefer the trident when underwater. Which means I’ll be investing in condition damage. Thus the scepter is in my second weapon set for on land.

I just need to nail down the rest of my build. Including what stats to aim for on my exotic gear.

I’m thinking at least 20 points in Blood Magic for ritual mastery and bringing curses up to 30 since precision and condition damage will both be helpful. Which leaves 10 trait points to go elsewhere.

I need some advise on offhand choices (I’m thinking dagger), underwater utility skills, and what traits I chose. Though I am expecting to switch traits/utility skills and maybe even my elite as necessary, meaning using different ones in PvE and WvW is acceptable.

Because that means the night shift players will be annoyed at not being allowed to cap stuff. For Canadians you might be able to say they should play on US servers (though that will mean queues and not playing with EU friends). But what about the Oceanic/Asian players running nightshift on US servers ?

Do you really want to tell them that they aren’t allowed to cap anything because of where they live ?

Since we heard how WvW would work we have all known that the servers with active players while their opponents weren’t active would be the winning servers. There is simply no way around that.

90% of us playing LIKE THE GRIND

Do you have any evidence for this claim ?

The worst part about the gear treadmill is that I’m hearing that Legendary weapons have higher stats than exotics. And that to make one, you need items that can only be acquired through world completion. You get two of these items for world completion. Which means each character can make at most two legendary weapons, to make more another character needs to go without.
The only classes that could fill all their weapon slots with legendary weapons are staff eles and rifle engineers.

Really off topic but let me clarify that.
Legendaries are 100% cosmetic, they have the same stats as exotics.

I used to think that. Then I saw the stats listed here.

Lets take tridens as an example:
Kraitkin (legendary trident)
Weapon strength: 919 – 1015
+ 91 power
+ 65 toughness
+ 65 vitality

Exotic tridents: Strength: 904-1000
+ 90 primary stat
+ 64 on the other two (excluding crit damage)

So the Dark Asuran Trident is:
Weapon strength: 904-1000
+ 90 power
+ 64 Toughness
+ 64 Vitality

So they are more powerful.

The 2 world completion gifts are ACCOUNT bound. So if you are insane enough to try to craft more than 2 legendaries you can get another set of gifts from each alt you have. Also ArenaNet has stated that the final legendary you make is bind on equip, so whoever creates a legendary is free to send it to someone else or try to sell it.

It’s still a case that if you want a third legendary weapon, another character that someone put a lot of time into must lose out. Maybe your alt, maybe someone else’s character.

Though them being more powerful is only true if your build uses Power/Toughness/Vitality. If you don’t, then you’re stuck with exotics because that’s the only stat combination they come with. Which just makes things worse for condition builds, which already have a problems operating in a group.

Snoring Sleepwalker.9073

There are two problems with voting ?

What happens when an idea is popular with the voters, but ANET refuses to implement it ?

What about a very unpopular idea that ANET does implement ?

For an example of both, lets use balance changes in sPvP. ANET makes them based on the statistics they collect on the server. If a class is winning too often (compared to the number of people playing it) then it’s overpowered somehow. Winning too little, it’s clearly underpowered.

But the players perception differs from reality. Add in people who don’t care enough to vote and:
– Someone calls for a nerf on a class because he can’t figure out how to defeat it.
– People like him vote yes.
– Other people see lots of complaining, assume that the complaining means there is a problem, so they also vote yes despite not knowing either way.
– The vote shows lots of support for a nerf.
Now ANET comes along, looks at the statistics, and decides the class isn’t winning as often as other classes. So they buff it.

Imagine the uproar after that happens. Lots of people will be very unhappy at ANET ‘ignoring’ the vote. But the only mistake ANET has made in my scenario is allowing the vote in the first place.

If ANET works on filtering the part before the .com, then the gold sellers will have to mangle it, then ANET will block the mangled form, then they mangle it some more. The end result being a URL too mangled for buyers to figure out, forcing a dip in the gold sellers income until they spend money getting a new URL.

Much more effective than just forcing them to change .com to .c0m, .c()m, .c_m, etc.

I think we may see this feature implemented in time and would be a welcome addition to our trade options.

Unlikely. Not implementing it was a very intentional move on ANET’s part. Why are they going to change their mind just because the move was unpopular ?
Especially if the evidence they have collected agreess with why they didn’t include it.

a player 2 player trading system is almost a must for a modern MMO. I fail to see why ANET thought it was a good idea to not have one.

The reason ANET staff give is that forcing people to use the trading post vastly reduces scams. Probably true, as once people understand the obvious mail trading scam (not sending what you have promised) and stop mail trading they won’t be vulnerable to more subtle scams. But there are some other benefits that come from the removal of secure P2P trading:

- Vastly less trade spam cluttering up chat channels.
– It forces people to pay the trading post tax. Which is the only gold sink that can halt inflation*, which is good for the long term health of the economy. Sure, ANET could tax P2P trades if someone is paying coin, but not if it’s an item for item trade. Especially if players start hording an item to use as a currency, like they did with ectos in GW1.

*Other gold sinks remove gold at a fixed rate. Since players earn more gold than they sink, inflation happens. But the tax is a variable rate, the higher prices are, the more it sinks. So inflation will mean it takes more gold, slowing inflation until we hit the point where it’s taking gold at the same rate that players are creating it. Which means no inflation (well, a cycle of inflation and deflation around a point).

Also, the Trading Post is impersonal. It is fun to RP trading, haggle with the person and being able to know that you are not going to get kitten’d in the end would help this.

Lucky you. I’ve never found someone willing to haggle in MMOs, and the trading post making prices so obvious is only going to make haggling harder

The trading post takes away from people’s sense of pride in their work though. When you post something on the trading post your name isn’t attached. Nobody knows who made the equipment. Therefore nobody knows who to talk to to have equipment crafted.

Also, nobody knows who sold a lot of crafted stuff. Meaning that if you have, you won’t be bothered by people whispering you to try and get a better deal than the price you’re asking on the trading post.

This old chestnut has been done to death in so many threads already. Use the TP for trading and GW2 doesn’t have the problem of everyone spamming the main chat channels with trade stuff – since noone will be stupid enuf to trade with strangers over mail… will they?

What a terrible argument. We shouldn’t have player trading because you don’t like the “spam”? No, add trading between players. There is no real reason it shouldn’t be in.

When there are no good reasons to include it then any argument against it, no matter how small, becomes a good reason to not include it.
So what are the good reasons to add it ?

If someone wants to sell something to someone else, they should be able to without risking mail. At the very least add C.O.D.

You can sell to other players, through the trading post.

Since almost all trades will use coin even if barter is an option, I don’t see how COD is any different to a trade window. So don’t pretend it’s any kind of compromise.

Two possibilities:
– Your team is winning so much that the only place they have left is their spawn.
– Your team is so stupid that you’re trying to hit them at their strongest point when there are easier places for you to cap.

If it’s the first, congrats. You’re winning. Winners calling for their enemies to be nerfed is never a good look.

For me the most annoying line is: “More people should learn to barter”. Lets see what’s wrong with it:
– Barter is a horrible system for trade. That’s why currencies exist, to avoid the problems of barter.
– These lines are usually said by merchant NPCs. They don’t allow any form of negotiation, you either accept their set price or not trade with them. Meaning these are the worst NPCs to say this line.
– Barter isn’t even an option in GW2, because the trading post requires currency, and mail trading is just insecure.

So this line was annoyingly stupid the first time I heard it. On top of the annoyances of it being constantly repeated.

Recording who created the item is the kind of variation that will break the trading post. So to implement it, ANET will need to completly change the trading post into something else.

Snoring Sleepwalker.9073

What is the exact algorithm used for determining the exchange rate ?
All I know so far is that the currency exchange has a stock of gems and coin, and that the ratio between them determines the exchange rates and that either of them reaching 0 causes problems.

Why did ANET decide to use this hidden algorithm over just selling gems like any other item on the trading post ?
Everyone can easily see how the trading post operates, not so much the black box of the currency exchange algorithm.

Does the currency exchange act as a gem sink ?
By that I mean, does the currency exchanges stock of gems increase over time (meaning some gems will never make it back out into player hands) or does it stay constant.

Are there any plans to replace the hidden currency exchange algorithm with the buy/sell order system of the trading post ?

Block WTS/WTB messages from /map chat

in Suggestions

Posted by: Snoring Sleepwalker.9073

Snoring Sleepwalker.9073

I don’t really know why there just isn’t a separate trade chat like there was in GW1
the vast majority of people used it, only occaisionally would you get someone typing it into a different chat.

The only reason people used trade chat in GW1 is that ANET forced them to with a combination of filters that moved trade spam from general to trade, and threats of action against trade spam in general for those who bypassed the filters. So they know hard it is to build those filters without impacting regular chat.

The main reason (perhaps the only reason that is needed) that trade chat doesn’t exist, is that peer-to-peer trading doesn’t exist. Arenanet want to encourage people to use the TP, and not use the mail/trust route.

The best way for Arenanet to reduce the amount of WTSs and WTBs in map chat, is just to make the Trading Post more appealing.

Or to continue their current method and make trading via other methods unappealing due to the risk of scams. I noticed a major drop in trade spam when the trading post became stable and people weren’t forced to use mail trading.

The only things ANET can do to further reduce trade spam are:
– Officially announce that if you trade with someone via mail and they don’t send what they promised, then you are not getting what you sent back. After all, the more scammers there are preying on mail trading, the less people that will be willing to use it.
– Start punishing people for trade spam.

Not sure if you’re aware, there’s a 15% tax on the Trading Post. When you’re selling things that are worth more than a few silver, that can get large.

That tax is a gold sink. It is essential for the long term health of the GW2 economy. Even more essential that other gold sinks because other gold sinks only sink at a fixed rate, since players earn more than that amount inflation happens and prices rise.
But the more prices rise, the more gold the trading post will sink, slowing inflation until prices eventually get high enough that the tax is sinking more gold that players earn in the same timeframe. Which leads to deflation and prices oscillating around a stable value.

The more people that avoid the trading post due to greed, the less effective the gold sink is. So you’ll just have to chose between the trading post tax and the risk of mail trading scams.

The price crashing because the market is flooded with that item just means the economy is behaving rationally: Massive supply compared to demand means low prices.
So I wouldn’t implement a time limit for that reason. However a time limit is still a good idea for performance reasons. The more orders exist, the more that need to be searched through. There will always be people who keep placing orders that will never be filled, so the trading post will clog up with those orders over time. Unless something is put in place to remove old orders, like an expiry timer.

I’m actually a bit mystified about why ANET didn’t copy that part of the Eve Online market.

What’s wrong with the trading post ?

Seriously? Fair enough, a legitimate question.

Look at Diablo III’s auction house UI: I can look for precisely what I want with a few clicks. I can’t come close to that in GW2 TP.

Let’s say I want to find chest armour with +vitality and +condition damage. The best I can do is search for “Armour” | “Chest” and wade through all the medium and heavy armour and hover over tool-tips for each stat. Oy vey.

Additionally, the rest of the interface just…sucks…constantly sliding back, doesn’t remember last searches, slow load times…

I’m hoping the current TP is nowhere near the desired end-state and is something that was decided to further develop after launch rather than wait.

Fair enough. That’s a big problem.

As for why I haven’t seen that problem myself: I’ve been crafting my own armor and leveling tailor with my character. Which means I haven’t bought any armor over the trading post yet.

Though, even with that problem, the trading post still lets you find items faster than player to player trading would, because the TP is searchable and P2P trading requires you to be in the same place as the person selling the item you’re after (or 3rd party websites to help).

I support this entirely Direct Trade is something just every Co Op RPG MMO or the likes should have

Why ?

Removing it greatly reduces trade spam. So what does secure direct trading add to make up for the trade spam ?

I remember the early days of GW1, when the trade spam in Lions Arch was so bad that I’d expand my chat box to the full height of the screen, and the trade spam was still scrolling off the top in mere seconds.

I would like that philosophy if the trading post didn’t, well, suck (downtime notwithstanding even).

What’s wrong with the trading post ?

I also second a trade option. I’m a bit sick of having to open up a mail window, then type who I want to send the item to. It’d be more convenient when I’m questing with my friends, to simply rite click on their portrait and hand them the loot.

Try clicking their character, then right clicking on it. That’s always had a send mail option for me.

This and we need a PoD system. Why they even made the mail system without a PoD feature is nuts.

By removing all means of secure player to player trading, ANET have greatly reduced trade spam by making responding to the spam a very risky option for the spammer and the person responding.

Can you think of a better way to reduce trade spam ?

I can see several technical reasons that could make increasing the population limit per map impossible. PvE maps get round that by making the overflow on a different physical server to the first one, but that isn’t an option when WvW only allows one instance of each map.

Adding more WvW maps should be much easier, if ANET can think of a theme for them. I’m thinking a map that is mostly underwater for two reasons:
– It will be very different from other maps.

- Lots of people don’t seem to like underwater combat. Meaning they won’t want to play this map. So lower queues there. As someone who likes underwater combat, this would be good for me.

– Nobody liked trade spam in GW1. But trade spam was useful for the spammer in GW1. With no secure player to player trading in GW2, trade spam is much less useful, so is greatly reduced.

Custom chat filter to combat Gold Spammers

I’m already seeing gold sellers mangling their own URLs. Which means that ANET is filtering the chat on the server end, and the gold sellers are bypassing it. For now, each time they come up with a new mangled form, ANET blocks it. Until the gold sellers have to mangle their URL so badly that the people stupid enough to buy from them (instead of via the gem store) are unable to work out the real URL.

(because, apparently, not everyone does the math).

How can they do the math when the sale fee is hidden from them ?

I didnt said “stop the discussion”… the vote system is just for easy perceive by us and the dev the most appealing suggestions.. of course common sense and discussion is always there… and we could change votes as the discussion goes on..

Even if you can change votes, the problem is that a lot of people won’t. They will just read the title, probably read the opening post (if they post, then their failure to read the opening post becomes very obvious. Not so if they only vote), vote, then never visit the thread again. Since they will never see new arguments, they will never change their vote.

Even if that was somehow solved, the discussion is what should convince ANET that an idea is good or not. Voting adds nothing to the discussion.

Waypoints to Major Cities

I don’t just use it for cities. I sometimes use it because I know that if I do it, then waypoint to my destination, I’ll pay less than waypointing directly.

So what I suggest is that GW2 calculates two costs for a waypoint:
– The cost of travel from where you are standing.
– The cost of travel from the nearest city waypoint to your destination. If it’s a city waypoint, the cost is 0.

Then you get charged whichever cost is less.

Though the waypoint cost itself is questionable:
– Any goldsink effect it has can be compensated by reducing player income. Say a few % reduction in vendor prices for everything.
– It discourages playing with friends as you have to pay for the waypoint to your friend, then pay a second time to get back to what you are doing.

Remove bank and TP from WvW

People who use the Bank with the TP for trading should just go to Rata Sum. They’re about 20 feet away from each other.

Problem is, the WvW trading post and bank NPCs are right beside each other. For someone wanting maximum efficiency, they are only going to use Rata Sum until they get through the WvW queue. Then they’ll use the WvW NPCs, because closer NPCs mean faster profit for them.

More details in the trading post

As for the buy and sell orders, anyone who has played Eve Online can clearly see how Guild Wars 2 copies the Eve market. The Eve market has this window listing all the buy and sell orders in a region. Ignore the columns that aren’t price or quantity, as they aren’t implemented in GW2*.
Now I’ll compare that to what we see in GW2, buy covering up the parts hidden from us on each of the trading screens:
This is all we see when selling
This is what we get when placing a buy order
This is what we get when buying instantly

As you can see, in order to see all the details for an item you need to look at both buy order screens. If you’re trying to sell an item, that means looking at all three screens.

What I’d like to see is a single button, on both buy screens and the sell screen, that brings up a new window showing all buy and sell orders for the item in question.

A vote is a bad idea. It’s just asking for people to read the first post, misunderstand it, then vote on that misunderstanding.

Or you have a suggestion that sounds good at first glance. So lots of people vote for it. Then someone points out a reason why it is actually a terrible idea. A reason lots of people missed, but agree with it now they think it through. Problem is, most of the votes happened before that reason was posted.

What about a complex suggestion that would be good for GW2 as a whole, but most of the people who understand it are a tiny fraction of the community that would be hurt by it ?
The idea would get low approval.

What happens when ANET implements an idea with low approval ?
Or keeps refusing an idea with high approval ?

Popularity is not going to tell an ANET if an idea is a good one or not. Which is why suggestion forums generally have rules against /signed posts, as they just drown out discussion. Discussion which does help show if an idea is a good one.

Removing them is overkill. Just move the bank and trading post NPCs further apart so that the people looking for the most optimal place for trading will pick somewhere else.

People like this guy (watch from 1:43:20 to see why he uses the WvW trading post).
