You refuse to take no for an answer, which is exactly why we want nothing to do with open world dueling.
I heard this argument twice now and I just had to post about it!
You go to a thread about dueling giving arguments for in the OP, give your arguments why it is a bad idea/see someone has already given the arguments and then the defendants of the original idea come with counter arguments to those points.
Instead of coming up with more counters to actually help the discussion, you post that the duelist who are continuing the discussion are the trolls that will hound you ingame not taking no for an answer.
What is happening now isn’t comparable, if you wanted compare it to a dueling situation, what you are doing is accepting the duel request, making a retort and running away before the fight actually starts just to troll the player. But to be fair, this topic has been chewed out, so I don’t really think there is much more to add.
On topic: Pve/wvw duels would be interesting imo, if imbalanced and potentially trolly. A duel arena might be a nice work around, but I kinda just want to fight in beautiful scenery with a group of friends only. I’m pretty neutral if it is added or not at this point, but I would use it if it did come out.
Many minipets are intelligent species, it might be a bit awkward to be see all the people tickling scantly clad Southsun Kasmeer/Speedo boy.
Edit: A more serious argument against would be the effort it would probably take to create the animation that needs to deal with different size and shapes of multiple races.
I thought it made sense, it makes it an actually character reward rather than an account award, for a character achievement. A step up from the year one imo.
Check the date of OP right top. For crying out loud,Necromancers… This body ain’t fresh.
When he’s like 50? If it’s taken him 12 years to form a full sentence I’m not holding out hope here…. :-P
(and just to clarify /sarcasm, /facetious)
When he finds himself unable to be distracted by bonds with other humans and can ascend to realize that glorious 1v1 combat is the only way by which he can live his life, and when his life decisions shine as a great beacon of hope and truth to all those around, the time will come.
He will be great one day.
My biggest gripe with this suggestion is that it would force me to stop doing my activity, visit the vendor and dump my currencies regularly when I might just want to do the activity I like doing and have the currency build up for a rainy day when I need it.
4 sec quickness on a 12 sec cd. Too little info to actually draw any conclusions (its an offhand but 3 skills are shown) but this seems off even with that huge casting time… (for reference all 6 sec quickness skills are on 60 sec cd with a debuff during the 6 secs)
The casting times in general seem a bit odd. But the cooldowns seem to be alright. The longer cds are bound to ccs.

Bad fist fight methinks
Frizz, people with sweetfx, gemfx or windows xp can’t play the game (there are workarounds now). WvW (europe at least) was hit by the return of the skill lag, making that game mode unplayable for many people. PvP’s scoreboard causes crashes, switching reward tracks either doesn’t work or crashes for quite a few people.
You’re just in one of the less afflicted demographics is all, or perhaps one of the lucky ones.
Also there was a major exploit (that seems to have been hotpatched) that gave large amounts of people HoM achievements.
This is on top of the less game breaking bugs that are flooding the bug forums, including the ingame bug report being broken. This is why there is so much negativity on the forums right now I think, because a bug that disrupts a player’s gameplay is usually just reported without coming to the forums to complain if minor.
I love how you argue as if not catching all bugs is equivalent to catching no bugs, Krall.
So, why do these game with PTS still end up having glaring bugs when the patches are released?
Clearly something doesn’t work, and I would rather have ArenaNet spending money on developing the game than spending money on a PTS that potentially will do nothing at all other than spoil content.
Beautiful transition. Still having bugs that were not to be found except under the stress of live went to potentially no bugs at all being found without blinking.
(edited by Snow.2048)
They keep moving these to the bug section
Here’s a few you missed
Bug reports bugged
Guild workshop bugged
HoM portal Bugged
HoM achievements bugged
Multiple textures bugged
Item stacking bugged
Pvp reward tracks bugged
Vendors bugged (karma, dungeon, etc)
Ranger’s pet passive mode is no longer functional
There are even more, most people give up actually complying a list in one post
(edited by Snow.2048)
Have you guys even seen the list of bugs? If it was just a bug or two, then sure. But at this point:
Bug reports bugged
Guild chat bugged
Guild workshop bugged
HoM portal Bugged
HoM achievements bugged
Multiple textures bugged
Item stacking bugged
Pvp reward tracks bugged
Vendors bugged (karma, dungeon, etc)
Audio bugs
EU WvW unplayable due to lag
… (Head over to the bug forums for more, there are many)
Some people can’t play, while others are getting massive exploits (accidentally or not)
It is unreasonable to expect them to catch every bug but come on. If they added a testing platform then many of these things wouldn’t have hit live.
What is with the mediocrity loving. Not being the worst is a poor standard.

You mean like build templates (save trait choices and switch rapidly between them)? If so, there is a new thread about this every few days.
Definitely would be a great qol feature
I agree with a roll back, not just because of the HoM bug but because of the ever growing list of bugs caused by this patch. Way too many issues to be released onto a none beta game.
I seem to have no problems
There’s a thread in the bug forum about this, so you’re not the only one experiencing it.
Thanks guys for checking it.
Make this optional please, some of us actually collect skins XD
Does it affect karma vendors as well? If so, then so much for getting all the karma skins with one character completion…
Wasn’t the warning pop up that your character can’t use this item enough?
IMO:
Most broken: Trait-wise+class mechanic, Ranger (no need for buffs just rework, the trait lines just don’t make sense and the synergy is limited)I disagree. Ranger is the only profession where I actually get the traits I want AND the extra stats from traits fit my Knight gear perfectly. I would be disappointed if they changed something.
So traps, great sword and power gear… You do know your traps are only about half as effective as a real trapper? If you didn’t want to take conditions in this full crit line, which traits would you choose that would be worth taking?
That is what I mean about trait issues.
Glad PVE gets what it wanted, and no longer needs to touch wvw more than a minimalist amount to craft a legendary.
Can those of us who fall asleep during the chasing after loot pinatas that is pve and thus only pvp/wvw also get a way to earn them with minimalist pve effort as well? Would be fair
The dungeon tokens and mats are there in pvp, so only having to complete nearly the entire vanilla open world pve experience is in the way. That is way worse than 4 pvp enabled maps imo (almost everyone hates getting ganked or zerged)… But as I’m a primarily pvp/wvw player, I am in the minority I guess
You already get the best rewards in the game (reward tracks) through afk’ing sPvP if you want to…do you really need more?
I’m talking about crafting Legendaries. Not the other rewards in game. That is what this is about. Gift of exploration, the star, and the title. The star and title you can keep, I think the gift is what most people want the most. I may be wrong!
IMO:
Least Played: I see about every single class multiple times a day, so not sure.
Most broken: Trait-wise+class mechanic, Ranger (no need for buffs just rework, the trait lines just don’t make sense and the synergy is limited)
Actually broken (eg bugged) would go to mesmer I think, slight changes in elevation can break so many of their skills… It is still very playable mind you, but good lord if sword 3 actually worked all the time…
Glad PVE gets what it wanted, and no longer needs to touch wvw more than a minimalist amount to craft a legendary.

We can discuss WoW streamers, but not a quick salute to this great author…
“No one remembers the singer, but the song remains.”
Rest in peace, Sir Terry Pratchett. May your spirit live on in your work forevermore.
I never understood people who watched streamers, etc. Why should I spend my free time watching someone else play is my question (unless I’m checking out a game before buying that is!), but I’m probably a minority considering the popularity of these guys…
Tbh, if he gets a lot of people to join, they might end up quitting anyway because it isn’t to their tastes, whereas whatever game they were playing was. Or they might not join because they like watching him more than playing a game. Or he might just lose fans because they don’t want to watch him play guild wars 2, but whatever he was playing beforehand. I dont think it is going to be a 30k increase from one guy alone because of this.
And if he is only bringing the trinity worshipers back and is indirectly the cause of half the posts [/exaggeration] being hit by “the trinity will solve everything!” then I don’t see this being positive for the community as a whole.
Queensdale Map Chat Before NPE
New PLayer: How do I do X?
Vet player: Simple answer.
Other Vet Player: More in depth answer.
Another Player: Also, you can do Y.
Yet Another Player: Z is pretty awesome too!Queensdale Map Chat Post NPE
New PLayer: Why can’t I do X?
Vet Player: Because you aren’t high enough level. Not sure if anyone else sees this particular inherent flaw.
This post basically sums up how all the people who are new or just started playing again that I personally play with experience the game now. Although my answer is usually: “New player experience, go complain about it on the forums please.”
Oh, and you know what really kittenz people off, the fact that one of the dye rewards is bugged, you don’t actually get the unid dye
@shadow Ah I misunderstood, sorry

I just want my natural weapon skill unlocking again. That change alone was heartbreaking.
Highlight is mine, isn’t it more clear about how it was before?
No, I would say there is no difference between how “clear” either were. You play the game, and you suddenly get skills added to your bar either way. Just one you got from using your weapon, which is very natural and the other you get them at set levels that limit your build until you get there. If you wanted more skills with the previous system, you went and practiced with the weapon. If you want more skill now, tough luck just keep leveling.
I won’t say that the system takes longer, or is more grindy when it comes to weapon skills necessarily. But now its just the typical you leveled, here is a new skill that almost every single MMO I played has. The natural unlocking at the beginning made the game feel new and exciting and different, even if it wasn’t actually that different at all. That was the beauty of the system.
Personally, that made me feel more like I was progressing a character than the cheesy DING! of me crossing another level off my checklist ever did.
In pvp you are facing an opponent with unknown abilities, but based on experience you can build to fight what you seem to encounter most often. That’s why you see defensive builds as well as burst, it can shift but you can see a wider range if you playing lower levels of competition. I like playing in practice often just to see what crazy builds people think up…
In pve you are facing a mob that you can google or within a few minutes know exactly what to expect. Most mobs arn’t powerful enough to have their different abilities noticed anyway. Mobs don’t adapt to your strategy, but you can adapt. With your active defenses it doesn’t make much sense to take any more defense than you need, and the more experienced you are the less you need.
The elementalist example is particularly big because 10k hp is a death sentence when facing fast paced and intelligent opponents, whereas the AI is slow to attack, and can’t see your weak points and exploit them intentionally.
Well if its a protest we can always do one of those cute signature things. Like the crossing out your server name and replacing it with megaserver, or the no conquest to stronghold thingy.
Not buying into HoT, till trait system is rethought!
Like so =P
RIP Heavy Horns of the Dragon Skin
I just want my natural weapon skill unlocking again. That change alone was heartbreaking.
Oh and traits, but we have a different thread for that.
Discipline I is the warrior
Stacking already presents its own risks and increased damage from taking focused AoEs and cleaves without issue, I’m not sure how a condition that needs to be cleared once in a while (or pop resistance once that hits) would add to this. Instead of a whole new condition, they could add some bosses that have constant rapid attacks. Then players could counter with confusion, for example or need more sustainable defense. And all this without anything new being made.
I gave the Lovestruck one to my gf for valentines when they came out, thought it looked pretty neat. I like the priory, kodan, dragon jade as well and dead stop the best myself I think. I love the idea of flameseeker prophecies, but the skin itself I’m not fond of personally (most legendaries I’m not big on though)
We’re gunna get locked for being off topic if we keep this up… But tbh I don’t know what to add to the actual discussion that hasn’t be suggested or said already, if not here then the previous thread.
It would be nice though if we could get a bit of direction in the discussion.
Make it a special property (not a new condition) of the occasional new boss and I’m game with it, sounds like an interesting mechanic.
It won’t solve the stacking “problem”, but I’m not sure how taking the risk of stacking (thus being clustered when aoes and cleaves hit) in order to share buffs is actually a problem… If buffs have a range, then a good team will stay in range to get the buff imo, or am I seeing this completely wrong?
Thanks Randulf, tbh I don’t even consider the bubble a feature, never seen it at work, it was the knock back that made me happy she had my back when I got myself into some mess while roaming…
If it helps, my buddy with sword shield was a pug zerg commander, and he was pretty tanky. Not optimal but he spent hours on his roman look. Shields definitely have some pretty awesome skins
A buddy of mine runs sword and board condition warrior, he seems to do ok (wvw), I’ve seen him use the reflect on block very nicely despite sword/sword being better imo. My gf runs sword and board mediation guardian when she’s on her guard, she loves ports and the aoe interrupt/knockback (think she took the trait as well). (I haven’t played it myself, is it broken that everyone hates it?)
Engineer pistol shield is fun, not quite sword and board but its a shield.
Mesmer seems to be getting shield with the first specialization, maybe sword and board illusion mage would be cool…
@Riku Ahh I see, so its more of a personal choice and idealistic circumstances. Fair enough, thanks for elaborating
MMOs don’t typically set standards for amazing gameplay, or heart rending storyline.
And will continue to be so for as long as people settle for less.
Indeed
MMOs don’t typically set standards for amazing gameplay, or heart rending storyline. You choose an MMO because you want to play with other people, with gameplay considerations helping to decide which MMO, not deciding to MMO. You probably shouldn’t choose an an MMO because you want the gameplay without the social factor, because the whole game’s selling point is the social factor with gameplay being a way of catering to a certain sub audience.
So you are grinding out gameplay, realizing it isn’t top notch and seems like you are not doing much with the social aspect. That is why its lackluster, because what makes MMOs shine is not their gameplay, but that you are playing with so many other people. This isn’t an excuse for MMOs, but a personal observation.
Also the NPE sucks imo making all pre 80 content a tedious mess. Don’t delete anymore characters unless you want to find out about the trait grind.
@Snow – General use, Dungeons, Map Complete, events.
Aoe as in Mesmer Greatsword phantasm and mind stab, Elementalist skills etc.
I am having a hard time with how it surprises you tbh haha.
Well, I personally wouldn’t put the random nature of mesmer conditions over a condition necromancer or a good trapper when I want conditions, AoE on a mesmer never impressed me (though they have some good multi-target abilities that help out a bit) due to the long cooldown and/or small effect and I wouldn’t take a full tank guardian to many situations outside point control. Oh and hammer warrior I would have to know the things we are fighting are cc’able and greatsword is a mobility weapon making one of your damage dealers much more mobile than your tank, either wasting the mobility or wasting the point of having a defender. This is less important if you are required to split up the party often.
Which was also part of the reason I was curious about the situation. General pve I wouldn’t take a condition damage build because of the long build up (if a creature dies in 3 seconds due to focus fire, conditions do very little damage and with an extra bit of fire power it might die in 2 seconds), though I could understand control conditions a bit better, but again things die way too quick in pve. If this were a extended fight situation, I could feel it more but why not take something that is valid in more situations?
The fact that things die so quickly pushes me away from taking a tank with as well in pve, we have dodges for short fights, making it only an option in extended fights (bosses). Even then, with good support or skilled players a tank isn’t needed. The cc warrior has the same issue (why cc something when it dies almost instantly or you can dodge it anyway) and because of the current way defiance works its not great in a boss fight, although you have a conjure ele so I can feel a nice cc combo with frost bow. The combo might not be worth having a character dedicated to mobility and CC in a typical boss fight however when you can instead have a dodging damage dealer killing the thing faster so there is less time to make mistakes and less pressure on your team.
A utility mesmer I can feel (portal is a godsend), but I’d take sword over great sword myself so the utilities are located close to the front line so more can benefit. A staff elementalist can really make things easier with support and do less important roles should the time come so you don’t have to dedicate a slot (eg hammer warrior for cc).
It is an interesting composition though, and not too different from what I am used to running with from time to time (Mediation guard instead of tank guard, phantom mes, condistealth mes, cc engi/warrior, x) in wvw (guild group).
EDIT: This is all based of the current state of pve. And my groups almost always are made up of whoever wants to group up so I never run with any optimal group anyway.
(edited by Snow.2048)
Tier 1:
Guardian Tank with heals.
Mesmer with Aoe and Conditions
Elementalist with Conjure and Staff
Warrior with Hammer and Greatsword
Mesmer with AoE and Utility.Tier 2:
Guardian DPS with Utility
Warrior with banners and PS
Thief DPS and stealth
Necro Conditions and Wells
Ranger with Greatsword and Utility.
What game type/what criteria is this list based on? I ask because it slightly surprises me relative to the situations I’m normally in. Except staff elementalist, staff eles are always cool imo.
And what is your definition of AoE? I never included cleaves and bounce myself, but if you do it makes more sense.
My list for straight up fighting (my fav content)
2 identical mesmers, running different builds
1 Thief(/ranger) skirmishing spike
1 Staff elementalist, not glass. If it is identical to the mesmers, awesome.
1 Guardian
Not optimal probably, but the idea is to confuse the other team with mesmers, Guardian providing a center piece, thief to quickly take out the weak then disappear and elementalist to provide area control
Asura guardian + banish x = win.
x guardian + banish Asura = win
Asura heavies are cool. Banish (guardian skill) is cool [You send an enemy flying 750m, inefficient but hilarious]. The choice is clear =P
Sylvari necro’s have the best quotes so when you get to necro, I recommend sylvari male.
Lucos, you are confusing trinity with good design.
You don’t need a trinity to have a good fight design, it just gives you a set of rules so you can force situations, calling for less creative thinking on the part of the designer in engaging players to perform different tasks. I would argue that forcing players into set roles instead of making a situation the forces the players to think for themselves and define roles is not good design either, just an easier one to work with. When it is easier to work with, you can get a good basis faster.
Easier to design with does not make it better designed by default, it just makes it easier to achieve a base level of difficulty.
The gw2 “raids” have many flaws but lack of the trinity is not one of them. People have been asking for trinity before this game came out, it’s not a sudden group of people who saw the light, it is all the people who are used to a trinity wanting it without switching games. The dungeons are being speedrun in full dps armor because it has been run hundreds of times before and everyone knows or can look up how to do it.
The problem is not that there is no trinity, it is that the design needs to be better.
Trinity design can fail too against the test of time. In WoW I could solo the dungeons until level 60 with an underleveled tankadin. Trinity didn’t do much anymore in the outdated content. Even once you got to the point you were forced into it, trinity isn’t amazing fun either. Tank and spank may have 3 flavors, but it doesn’t stop it from being tedious. There is a shortage of healers because of how boring it is for many people. Heal flavor is wack-a-moling health bars, tank flavor is using tank skill rotation, dps flavor is using dps rotation. Don’t think, don’t react, learn your rotation. You know your rotation? Good, let’s add moving out of harm’s way while doing rotation, or memorizing patrol routes.
My fondest memory of WoW was when my tankadin accidentally got mind controlled for what felt like minutes, which is good because I was laughing so hard I couldn’t play while I watched my character wipe my entire team. After I regained control of my character, I preceeded to solo the boss thingy that did it, then rez everyone. Hilarious, but questionable design if what was meant to be a total party wipe just meant that the tank could yawn and solo it if it was the right class.
If I were a dev, I would have stayed the heck away from the old thread too and only posted updates like what went on. There was no point to a dialogue when:
A – You can’t talk about anything in development, and your fixes are currently in development.
2 – A lot of the posts are convinced you broke it intentionally, or convinced you’re just plain incompetent.
iii – Few people involved think you’re capable of fixing it without their input, and will tell you how to do it. (Or you’re an idiot.)
A Company prevents communication, and yet they make threads to communicate.
I’ll give you this one as a reason not to post, but I don’t think its the players fault.
2 When responding, you can choose to ignore the conspiracy theorists or not waste too much time answering them. Not sure if this is an excuse not to talk at all.
iii The changes were made without prior input, and lead to the people here not liking the system. So it isn’t completely unexpected that the population here might think this way. If they didn’t have A blocking them, they could convince the reasonable players by presenting their ideas and supporting them.
There is no point in dialogue mainly because they arn’t allowed to have a dialogue.

4. Different progression system. If you like it better, that is ok. I hear Rift is free. The progression in this game is either personal skill or collecting things (achieves, skins, etc). This isn’t as common, if you don’t like it than you probably shouldn’t have bought this game as this was a major selling point.
5. WoW guilds only served to pay my subscription because I could tank. If you don’t like your current guild experience, get a new guild. Or just fill out your guild slots (you can join multiple guilds) so if one is slow at certain times you can play with another. As said before, guilds are more social than gameplay at this time (perhaps the expansion will change that, but I wouldn’t hold my breathe)
6. Ah good, I can agree with something. However the timers and such were changes to cater to people like you who needed more structure, ruining it for many others. I too would like to see more instanced content and challenge. But…
7. There are so many other options (see thread). Instead of being told how to play (the whole NPE caters to people who need to be told how to play while making things meh for those who don’t) go play and if its not fun try something different, perhaps a different game.
There are tons of issues with GW2, but for some of us it is as close as we can get to what we want in a game. If its not your style, ok. But coming at the game with the attitude that you don’t like it (come on, you didn’t even try half of it) then complaining on the forums is pretty trollish.
(PS going with the wow example, what you are doing is somewhat similar to taking a healer spec in the dps slot and wondering why it ineffective and you never get to use all your fancy heals when the real healer is doing his job)
