The point of dailies is not to dump items into your inventory. The point of dailies is to incentivize players to participate in specific content.
By trimming down what can be done in PvE, you create the impetus for players to participate in WvW or PvP.
No you dont. What you ACTUALLY do is p-off your pve playerbase. I’ll stop logging in at all before I play PvP or WvW. That junk is just an excuse for lack of content so far as I’m concerned.
New new Dailys suck. Completely and utterly. I’m not going to waste 3 hours of my time on a kitten Fractal for a ONE PART of a frickn’ Daily achievement. I have a life, and 1-1 1/2 hours a day is should be MORE THAN ENOUGH time to get a frickn’ daily achievement.
Lets hope someone at ANet realizes what a kitten colossal screwup this is, and fixes it post-haste.
/agree. I dislike the fractals in this game and wont play them because they are a hassle. I hate PvP (no matter what stupid nomenclature it’s labeled with), and will not participate. If Anet doesn’t wish to make sure I have a game to play outside of that extra junk, then I simply wont give them any money.
Last year you got the Daily Bell Choir for just being in the instance when it ended. That meant you couldn’t leave before the final score comes up, but as long as you didn’t you’d get credit.
Not sure if they changed that this year. If they did and it actually does require you to get up on stage and successfully play one song… that’s still super easy.
I just ran through the first song and did literally nothing, and I only got kicked on the last few notes. Which means you only need to hit something like 3 notes total to finish it (as long as you don’t miss notes). With as slow as the notes are in the first round, I think that should be doable for anyone.
Some things to note as far as general tips, though… you get penalized for missing notes AND for playing the wrong notes. So don’t mash buttons or anything like that, you’ll only get kicked faster that way. Maybe just play the two center notes (4 and 6) and ignore everything else if you can’t handle watching everything.
Also, you want to hit the notes AFTER they pass the white line, not before or the moment they cross. You get more leeway pushing the note late than pushing it early, so take your time and don’t jump the gun.
It isnt easy with all of the horrible lag going on. CHanging it from last year once again makes work out of something that’s supposed to be fun. Seriously – I get enough work. I’d just rather not bother to even play.
Thanks to everyone for sharing tips to complete this daily. I’m sure they were very helpful to Lillith and others who are attempting this objective.
No, what would be helpful is getting the notation by the game that you participated. Especially since you reduced the number of ways for us to get the dailies this year!
Wow people are really defending this change… I didn’t realize the game had sunk so low that something like this is actually defensible….
You always get this sort of fanboi BS in every game. Personally, I find the new dailies extremely limited, and liked to do the ones we used to have. Adding more options for dailies would have been fine. What really sucks is this edition of Wintersday, as it expands on the “Less is more” BS theme they rolled out. No snowball fighting this year, and the bell controls are screwed up too (used to coincide with my number keys, and now has unusable #1 and #0). – not to mention not getting credit for “participating” in the bell choir at all.
But yeah – Anet does stuff I dont like, then I just wont play. Fanbois are happy, and anet gets less cash. Win-win, right?
Yes, same for me, stuttering all the time, very annoying, wasn’t like that before patch.
Couple of other topics where people complaining about this.

I am also having horrible graphics issues since the last patch – makes the game unplayable on my WinXP 64 machine running an NVIDIA 650 GTX.
Tried rolling everything back, and still get the exact same issue – which only materialized since last snafu of a patch

For those with comps where one works, you can try directly copying the updated folder to your non-responsive machine. This worked for me (after none of the other fixes did) taking the folder from my WIn7 machine and copying it over onto my WinXP 64 computer.
I was finally able to get my Win XP 64 computer working by copying over the GW2 file from another comp (Win 7) that was not having any problems running the game.
This seemed to work on Windows 8.1 (latest updates): disabling “Automatically detect settings” in the Network > Proxy control panel.
Not sure if this was just coincidence, or something else was fixed. Perhaps the new launcher is more sensitive to network issues / crappy proxy detection? I had previously tried basically everything everybody else had in this thread (repair, run as admin, disable firewall/av, uninstall/attempt to reinstall).
It’s a simple setting to test out, so it might be worth a shot.
FWIW, That fixed it for me as well – I no longer have to run the launcher with -email / -password / -nopatchui.
This is on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.
Control Panel > Internet Options > Connections > LAN Settings
Make sure “Automatically detect settings” is UNcheckedFunny thing is, I usually disable auto-detect but apparently I have gotten lax in my old age.
EDIT: This fixed the issue on all 3 computers. I think we have a winner!
THANK YOU BOTH.. you have made me a very happy man!!
Me too! Thanks! The Launcher is working again!
Jup, it works for me to. I’m on windows 8 and unchekking the detect automatic’ in LAN settings did the trick.
None of these workarounds functions for my WinXP 64 machine.
I sure am tired of having to patch the game almost daily to the tune of gigabytes of line time.
When I get a moment to play, it would be nice not to have to forego it to patch – only to have to patch again almost instantly.
There needs to be either a marked reduction in patching, or a way to have “playable” status reached early in the patch, then the rest load in the background, like RIFT does.
These nerfs suck. I can no longer log in and do my dailies to have fun for an hour or whatever.
Seriously – to hell with this game. I’ve seen this BS before, and I wont bother to let it be fed to me here.
I will never buy another product from this company.
I’m tired of the time limited stuff. Very annoyed that there was no daily for it today. I’m about done with it I think. And by done with it, I don’t mean completed or finished. I mean done with dealing with time limits on finishing things. Sick of it, really.
Yep, total ripoff. Two weekends for people with jobs, other responsibilities – especially with all the issues around this event – is pretty poor service, IMO.
I agree that these events need to scale. I also agree that acheivements should be more individual-centered. I get tired of people yelling at others in chat.
I’m kind of tired of getting a bunch of useless (for me) PvP stuff exclusively in my achievement chests.
I think selectable rewards are much better, and are already implemented in other areas, so wouldn’t be much to put in here.
I don’t do PvP of any sort, and don’t like having to take the time to destroy all the junk (since you also wont let us sell it to someone who might want it). This includes boosters etc as well as the box of armor, blueprints, etc. Also seems like kind of a ripoff for pure PvE folks to not get a box of goodies, extra tokens to spend, or whatever.
So this has been complained about for a very long time and yet Anet refuses to fix it? Great
The current “kick” system is too easily abused with only two people required to kick someone. Needs to be fixed so that it takes three members, and cannot be employed past a certain point in any instance (timer or checkpoint, I suppose). Exception for DC folks could be employed by the leader (and leadership of an instance should auto-change upon DC of the instance “owner”).
The current system further needs to be updated to allow people to vote “no” on the proposed kick to dismiss it from the screen. The current system is very poor design.
There also needs to be a way of addressing grief-kicking. Some sort of log, or report button.
After playing this game for a couple of months, this stands out as one of the worst designed and implemented “features” of this game (along with the boot mechanic if the leader DCs in the instance), and I see from doing a bit of research that it is a long-standing gripe amongst much of the player base. One would think the Devs would thus also consider it a priority.
Although the inventory bag slots holding a collectable have a right-click menu which allows you to individually store a collectable item or stack thereof, there’s no way to “lock” an item or stack so that it stays in inventory when you use the “store all collectables” option.
Please add this feature.
You are so right! it would be great to be able to do things as a raid, and to group up with 12 or 24 people.
I despise this system.
It’s stupid, and defeats a major reason to run an MMO. Simply having the squelch and report spam tools is sufficient for any concerns.
