Has anyone ever made a video about mob pathing in dungeons? Would be a great resource for what seems to be the 95% of the population that has no idea about it. I’d be willing to make said video if nobody else wanted to do it.

Said video would explain the mechanics behind pathing, and show every spot in each dungeon path where you need to path the mobs.

You can’t have Crea be a requirement for beating the final boss because, believe it or not, the event where you save her can fail and she dies.

You can make as many spreadsheets as you want since Arenanet can (and probably does) adjust the drop rate of things between patches so the long-term data might just be useless.

You say that as if ArenaNet even acknowledges the existence of fractals/dungeons.

I ran AC last night and the end reward box had a pouch of spirit shards. I don’t recall how many shards were in it, but it was a direct, guaranteed award for completing the dungeon.

I’m sorry, but there is no direct, guaranteed award of Spirit Shards for completing dungeons. Opening dungeon chests grants no Spirit Shards (I have run about 15 dungeon paths every day since the update and have gotten 0 from dungeon chests, so…) and opening champ bags gives very few (just before typing this post I opened 30 and got 3 Spirit Shards.)

I remain baffled as to why people care so much about the spirit shard drop rate. What on earth uses them up in such quantities that missing a few is horrible?

This is a serious question. I’m sure there is some useful thing to do with them and it involves using the Forge to make something profitable, but after 3 years in this game (I include beta play) I still don’t grok the Forge.

I am wondering the same. I am sitting on 5k+ shards and have no idea what to do with them other than building an exotic skin every now and then when the TP is right.

You can mass use Spirit Shards to promote materials and resell them on the TP. There are several calculators out there that show all the profitable conversions, with the best ones giving you about 1.5g per Spirit Shard.

I still got spirit shards from champion bags in my dungeon runs. Not sure how many (it’s easy to miss them since they’re deposited directly into the wallet now) but it doesn’t seem like a significant decrease.

That’s exactly the thing; we also got those BEFORE the update, in the form of Scrolls of Knowledge. The Spirit Shards from Champion Loot Boxes is the same after the patch, so they are not relevant to the discussion. Now you no longer get any from completing the dungeon. This effectively is saying “If you want Spirit Shards, go join a champ train.”

In short, this discussion is only about Spirit Shards as a direct dungeon reward.

Before the recent update to how leveling and skill points work, each dungeon you completed would grant you 70% of an experience bar, when combined with all the mobs you kill in a dungeon, would more or less grant you a Skill Point for each dungeon path you completed. However, since leveling past 80 does not give you any Spirit Shards, the equivalent of Skill Points, the rewards from dungeons have indirectly been nerfed. This change, along with the fact that dungeons (oustide of a select few paths) have long been considered as “not worth the time” by the majority of the community serves as a great opportunity to consider rebalancing dungeon rewards.

There are two different simple methods that I can think of to introduce Spirit Shards into the rewards of dungeons. The first would be to grant a single Spirit Shard along with the bonus (the daily chest) at the end of the dungeon. This is slightly more rewarding than 70% of a Skill Point, and could help to motivate more people to try their hand in a few dungeons.

The other method that I can think of would help to balance different dungeon paths. Instead of offering a Spirit Shard with the bonus chest at the end of the dungeon, each chest in the dungeon (not champ bags, the bigger ground chests) would offer a chance at a Spirit Shard. (at a rate determined by the devs) This would help to balance longer, more difficult dungeon paths that have more bosses such as Arah path 4 which has six chests with the easier, shorter paths such as Citadel of Flame path 1 which has two chests.

Thief dagger auto, aftercast?

Yes, it’s because there is an aftercast delay on each of the auto attacks. For the dagger auto chain, Double Strike has the least aftercast delay, then Wild Strike, then Lotus Strike. For the Sword, Slash (second hit) has the least aftercast delay, then Slice (first hit), then Crippling Strike.

As for is there a reason? Yes. Think about it this way; imagine two different attacks, one that has a one second cast time with one second aftercast delay and one with a two second cast time. Overall they have the same total time to activate, but which one would be harder to hit on a moving target/easier to interrupt? The two second cast time.

The best way to get around this is to just not continuously press your auto attacks if you anticipate needing to use a dodge skill shortly.

Death blossom works on his bolt, but you can just use CnD and wait on the backstab to regen energy in stealth. And you need to pre-empt the bolt to dodge it.

Pretty much this. Honestly you don’t even really need that good of RNG.. going Trickery/Acro/Crit, if you make sure to never waste a dodge then you shouldn’t need to Death Blossom.

On the other hand, I’m currently doing Trickery/Crit/DA and I’ve found that it’s also possible w/o energy sigils. You just need to be tricky with using CnD/BS at the right times to delay his autos, and the occasional Death Blossom. Right before I typed this, I got him to like 51% at about 2:35 (well ahead of my pre bug WR pace) and I died… was like 1 millisecond away from a dodge, should have used Withdraw instead Q.Q

btw, if your ping/reaction time is good enough you don’t have to preemptively dodge, you can reactively dodge

Whew… So, post Feline Grace nerf/vigor nerf, Lupicus is a kitten and a half to solo on thief (or maybe I was just sucking today lolol) but anywho, I eventually succeeded.

What I’m more concerned about with Tar is that when he puts that really long burn on you (that has insane condi damage) when you get knocked back into the fields, it will now stack in intensity. And I doubt they’ll adjust the damage to the new values.

Open world boss fights are not raids, and cannot ever be a replacement for raids

So what is a raid? It’s an instanced , dungeon type encounter that requires a minimum of 10 people.

They’re adding daily map rewards that will have these as drops. Luckily only 4 recipes needs these and you need a total of 291.

Farming 291 eyes yourself without using the TP can easily take 100k hours.

Which is exactly why this game is not designed for you to farm everything yourself. The trading post is there for a reason; to be used.

I did a semi serious one on thief just for reference (only recorded one kill) just to see a relative time difference, so obviously it’s pretty ugly compared to my other kills.

New should be faster I think, if I can maintain endurance. Will seaweed salad still reign supreme? 100 power 70 prec? 100 prec 70 ferocity? Most of the new changes add a lot of ferocity, so crit chance becomes very important

In other less than hype news… movement skills will no longer be affected by movement speed modifiers. I’l have to say goodbye to my patented “Rune of the Trapper Super Speed Jump Withdraw Thief Arah Goating”.

Fortunately, we will now be able to accurately cast skills at max range, so my Infiltrators arrow will always go 900 units. I guess IA will now be the preferred method of travel over HS now?

Forgive me if I missed a post/thread in here about this, but…

  • Leveling up after level 80 no longer grants skill points, but level 80 characters will be able to loot spirit shards off of monsters.

Does that mean we won’t be getting spirit shards from completing dungeons? Currently we’d be getting about 70% of one. We still might get them from the trash we kill in dungeons, but be real here.. Anet is obviously going to balance them for open world event farmers.

Yes. The only thing that matters for servers these days (used to be different in the past) is that for World vs World, players are divided by server. Other than that, people on any server can play together at all times.

EDIT: Do note that NA and EU are completely split and independent, but that should be obvious enough.

When I’m bored, sometimes I will join a group of complete first timers and carry them through Arah. To make it more fun, I limit myself to no chat, only emotes. (/e emotes aren’t allowed) I usually do this with path 4, but today I was only able to find a p1/2 group, but it was still pretty interesting..

For starters, they didn’t even know about the detonator to blow up the mobs. In path 1, when I killed them they thought I did some crazy move to kill them all (this is after soloing Ooze/Champs after they all wiped). They didn’t learn about the button until path 2…

Also, somewhere along the way, I picked up the nickname “Legendary Mime Unicorn Thief.” I like it.

That was me in that group! It was my first time on any Arah paths and I still can’t believe all the champs the LMUT killed, us four noobs really only helped at the giant for like 30 seconds before getting trashed and watching as it was solo’d… I still bow to you, oh great Legendary Mime Unicorn Thief.

It has been nearly two months since Lupicus’s Necrid Bolt has been changed. While I do understand and appreciate the fact that it takes a lot of work to fix bugs like these, I would appreciate if we could get an official response relatively soon regarding at least whether or not the change to Necrid Bolt was intentional, and if it was not, the future plans regarding Necrid Bolt.

It is good to have some bosses with different ranged and melee skills, but why does the melee have to always be weaker than the ranged?

According to gw2dungeons.net, phase 2 Lupi has:
Lupine Blast (ranged) ~9700 damage + 2 secs poison vs. Vicious Slash (melee) ~18400 damage + 30 secs bleeding (3 stacks) + ~3secs cc

Obviously Blast can hit targets which are further away, but that is the inherent advantage of ranged skills. Apart from that, at which point is his melee skill weaker than the ranged one?

It is weaker in terms of cast time, recharge time, aftercast delay, etc.

I am starting to think its not so much the game as it is most of the people in it that I am getting tired of.

I didn’t want to but had to reply to this cancerous Nemesis video.

*You talk about Corner stacking, yet show a record run with clearly not a single Corner stack. Then you call perma CC an exploits (after complaining last year about CC not being meta). Then you call using terrain an exploits, while this being a fricking action MMO meant to use the terrain to fight.

But you didn’t stop there, you then talk about “freezing” boss while showing a boss being chained immobilize, which is using the game mechanic in a creative way instead of just tanking and spanking.

But that wasn’t enough, you show footage of YOU in a group exploiting mossman underwater (which no meta group does) then wipe countless time at the ice elemental because your team wasn’t able to provide the support a meta group does (you joined a meta group while not being meta, you deserved a kick there just for lying)
and corner stacking in aetherblade fractal.

You also claim the meta is so easy but couldn’t show a video of yourself succeeding in this so called meta.

I could keep going on but this post is already long enough.*

Everything in his video is wrong, EVERYTHING, I’m really starting to think MMO’s aren’t for me if this is the kind of people they are made for, I would really like to see how GW2 would end up if this guy was giving any kind of control on the gameplay.

It’s hard for inexperienced, uncoordinated groups, but for veteran players, it is by far the fastest fractal of the first set.

Fortunately for you, ele is very good for soloing. Unfortunately for you, you will not be able to solo “every” explorable path because some paths are simply not doable due to mechanics, such as CoE lasers.

As for Spider Queen, for ele it really comes down to just bursting her as fast as possible. If you’re watching old videos, they are likely before when a bug came out that increased the area of all cone type attacks, such as her immobilizing web, so you can’t just stand to the side of that anymore.
