PvE (Dungeons) From best to worst
1. Everything except necro
2. Necro/thread
Sadly true. Every other class at least has a unique niche in dungeons. Everything a necro can do, another class can do better.
As long as the two sigils do not share the same name(minor/major/sup versions count as same name), and are not both stacking sigils, they will work together.
-snip-
Also keep in mind that she goes into hiding based off of a global timer, so you need to deal as much damage as possible in between the increments of time that she’ll stay put in order to succeed. This is why it’s really easy to get stuck in a lousy loop of her disappearing right away and why sometimes people I’ve known had to reset the fight to progress.
-snip-.
Can you explain the concept of the “global timer” a bit more? I’ve never been able to figure out the exact mechanics of her myself, other than just how to beat her pretty easily. I’m just the type of person who likes to know as much as possible about boss mechanics and stuff.
How does one use stun (and paralyzation sigil) to prevent the reflect?
I haven’t tested it much myself, but it seems that paralyzation sigil allows you to stun/interrupt enemies that are normally completely immune to CC. Someone with more knowledge on the topic replying would be great
Yes, because nerfing the hell out of two classes in particular is a good idea.
When you suggest a change like this, keep balance in mind, and suggest other things to keep the game balanced.
First, nice solo
Second, just started doing Lupi solos on thief for a change of pace. It’s fun learning how to do it on different classes. Tried it for the first time yesterday and it went fine. Today, no fewer than 3 times he reset on me (once p1, twice in p2) after stealth from CnD… and I can’t figure out why. I was backstabbing immediately too. Is this just kittenty luck or is there something I’m missing?
He will not reset if you CnD+Backstab while he is doing an attack or in the short ‘aftercast’ after an attack, so just make sure you’ve landed your backstab by the time that aftercast is over. In Phase 1, that ideally means during the scream and ‘after’ the kick (providing you can evade through Lupi early enough). In Phase 2, that ideally means after you’ve avoided the swipe, or after his phase 2 frenzied blast.
Thanks.
Also, I should have mentioned this earlier, but the gates/certain walls will cause him to reset if he is pushed into them.
Exactly. I didn’t figure that out until a while after I started using them, so that’s why I swap to the curry butternut squash soup at phase 3. I still have the habit of running into the wall though from when I was using seaweed salad
It is still much lower. Warrior self buffing is way too strong for thief to compete with in solo settings, but it still isn’t bad at all
Very nice work! Awesome timing on those backstabs. I still have trouble with this, and the vid will help a ton
Tip if you don’t mind: you don’t have to be completely inside his circle for p3 or even touching it for that matter. If you stand a little outside of it, this should give you enough room to safely 1dodge and withdraw out of the aoe w/o getting hit if you’re not able to time the evades.
Ah, thanks for the tip! I was never able to figure out why sometimes my withdraw would get me out of the AoE, and other times it wouldn’t. I’m just used to running against the wall when I used to use seaweed salad on p3
I’m pretty sure the thief one I just posted is the new WR. That’s 1/8
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PWNAJjM9ff0&feature=youtu.be
Since I can’t find any faster times anywhere, I guess this counts as a world record. I’m also posting it here because the youtube doubler I posted below gives a good image of how thieves have changed since pre-ferocity. While damage has definitely dropped, we got Revealed Training, and the ability to cleave with daggers, allowing me to stay on D/D 100% of the time on phase one. Still, even though P3Rry let lupi get a grub, I was just barely able to beat the time even without any empowered. If you look at phase three (yeah I know I was bad w/ scholar and First Strikes), where Revealed Training and dagger cleaves no longer matter, it’s amazing to see how much more damage P3Rry does even with empowered on lupi, thanks to the ferocity nerf.

Thief on Mage Crusher is really good. In addition to having Smokescreen to block his auto, you can also use pistol whip so you don’t have to worry about endurance, plus you get to keep doing DPS while evading. I might have a video of it somewhere, but as for now, I’m about to post something else =)
Odd.. I’ve never heard of this happening before. The LFG feature is supposed to be specific to each region. Naturally, since this is not supposed to happen in the first place, there is no way to “toggle” this bug off. I think your best bet is submitting a support ticket.
You can buy up to 4 now afaik
I’m pretty sure it was noted that they fixed it in the patch notes a while back.
Though the Conjure that was both Fiery and Great has fallen, we must not forget it’s Icy brother who gives us five seconds to act and shower larger enemies with it’s righteous Storm!
So is there a dungeon team again? Or at least a dungeon forums team? I’ve never seen so many red posts on the front page =O
Hrouda got the boot years ago. RIP
1. Press Y, look on the left. There is an in game LFG tool now. That website was used before the tool came out.
2. You could start at around level 30, but since you will be much weaker than level 80s (yes, there is a system that downlevels the 80’s to 30, but they will still be much stronger due to having more traits/better gear) you should just wait until level 80 to start running dungeons.
3. You should have at least most of your professions weapons, so you can swap them out as the situation calls for it. Don’t worry about the stats on the gear to start out, but be informed that any decent group will want you to be wearing berserker gear, or in the case of mesmers, assassin gear.
4. World v World also has a team aspect to it, especially if you hop on your servers teamspeak and run with an organized group. And of course PvP has a team aspect, since you’re on teams, competing against another team.
Welcome to Guild Wars 2!
Probably about 10 hours of attempts before I got my first solo
Every now and then i enter a path sellers lfg and say they should be ashamed of themselves. Then exit the group.
Every time i see a staff ele i force myself not to vote kick it from a dungeon, instead i grind my teeth and watch it how he/she spams fireballs with no attument switch ever and then die max range from all of us. Then i don’t res him/her the whole run because f you start using dodge and stop checking your facebook.
I do the same from above when a necro is in a group. Or a ranger. Because max range-spamming 1 rocks.
I change my armor’s apperance way to often. Sometimes weekly.
After i flushed 200gold in mystic forge and only got a few pearl exotics i quit playing for 2 months.
I like like world completion it relaxes me.
I strongly resent people who ping precursor drops on world boss event. I’m jelous besause in 2 years of playing the most expensive item that dropped to me is a hammer worth 20 gold.
I like running fractals even tho i know i’m going to get a uninfused ring on lvl 50.
Once i vote kicked afk-er on the phone after being afk for 10 min because i wanted to finish asuran fractal because Mentalist was on in 30 min on tv and i wanted to watch it.
This post is filled with so much fail.
Paragraph 1: Ever actually enter the path to see if the person completed every boss, aka legit solo’d the path? Because when I sell Arah, I complete the path. When I check other parties, I’d say 75% are legit sellers
Paragraph 2: Staff ele camping fire is actually the highest personal DPS build in the game. Usually you bring it when you have a second ele in the group (the other will run scepter for might stacking) or if the ele wants a relaxed playstyle build.
Paragraph 3: Well, I can’t disagree with you here. Though you should actually check to see if the ranger is running Sword/Warhorn or /axe and using frost spirit and spotter, because that’s actually a good build.
And the rest is just things you enjoy doing, minus the mystic forge (your RNG isn’t that bad) and the fractal kicking (patience please.)
If there is enough interest in it, I could upload a p3 solo I did on my thief a while back. Keep in mind the video quality is sorta shaky, so it only looks nice when you speed it up.
Now in the abstract, there’s nothing wrong with this, better performance = better reward, makes sense. The problem is, the game’s architecture is HORRIBLE for managing this sort of thing, because players have almost no choice as to whether they end up on a T4/Gold map, or a T2/Bronze map. You just load up and hope for the best, chances are you’ll get the latter and there’s little you can do about it.
Nothing you can do about it? Let me let you in on a little secret… In Guild Wars 2, there is this wonderful feature called map chat. Use it to find a group of, oh, five people that are willing to actually use their brains. Spread out, CALL OUT, and complete the events, and there you have it, a tier four sandstorm.
Seriously though…. You’re actually complaining about something like this? Put in a little bit of work. On the second day that the content was out, I did exactly what I said above, and went from a tier two sandstorm to a tier four within one run.
Since he started the story instance, and you accepted “credit” for the specific way that the instance owner completed the mission (in this case, which is joining the Priory,) you joined the Priory. Nothing you can do about it now, afaik
If only I didn’t have to go to work!
tl;dr: Yes, it is.
Wow, for a second I thought I might have been the person whose name was blacked out… sounded exactly like a conversation I had a few days ago. Just to clear things up, I’m going to explain the whole concept of path selling.
Yes, it is allowed. For example, let’s say Player A finished an entire dungeon path solo, and now has the last boss at 1%. If he wanted to, he could attack the boss once, and have his reward. However, he COULD invite people to his party to receive credit for the entire path right at the end of the run, but he would not benefit from doing this at all.
Now, let’s say he announces that he is giving out the path completion reward for FREE, to a large audience. This creates what we call a supply and demand. Right now, the supply is four open spots. The problem is, who wouldn’t want free gold and tokens? I would! As would everybody else. Now, we have a very large demand for this, which is more than four people.
Obviously, Player A can’t satisfy the demands of the masses. He isn’t going to just solo the dungeon over and over again until everyone is happy! Secondly, how would that be fair to him? He is doing all the work by himself, and not getting any increased reward. Just as, for example, a plumber in the real world would charge money for his services, Player A starts to charge money for admission into his party.
Going back to the plumber, let’s say he isn’t charging anything. Who wouldn’t want someone to fix their toilet for free? However, we all know that no plumbers are free. Now, since he is charging money, some people with the know-how would forego paying the plumber and simply fix the toilet themselves. However, others, like I, have no idea how to fix a toilet, and do not enjoy the idea of messing around with one. I would pay the plumber for his services.
Similarly, some people with the skills and time to complete the dungeon would forego paying Player A and complete the path normally with a party of five. However, there are others who admit that they are not skilled enough to complete the dungeon, or simply do not have the time to sit through it start to finish. If these people feel that the dungeon tokens are worth the cost (which let’s say is the 15 gold you mentioned earlier) they will pay for the entry into Player A’s group.
Now, in the real world, once you pay the plumber, you can be pretty sure he’s going to fix your toilet. However, in Guild Wars 2, scammers are out there, and there is a chance that he could simply kick you from the party after you pay. To my experience, these people are few and far between, and some dungeon solo’ers are willing to accept payment after the completion of the path, and some are willing to do 50% before and 50% after. Despite this risk, there are still many people who are willing to pay someone to complete a dungeon path for them.
In the end, yes, this is allowed. It is your choice whether to buy a path, or simply form another group to complete it normally. Arenanet has stated that dungeon selling is okay.
I’ve heard that they’ve already noted the oversight and will be fixing it eventually.
And the new stat combo is trash anyways, you don’t need to be able to swap to it for BiS.
Anybody else noticing that, after you steal, it takes a fraction of a second to see what item you’ve stolen? A few patches ago they supposedly fixed some bug where you could steal items from things you could not shadowstep to, and now the game take a moment to check whether or not you can shadowstep to the enemy before granting you the item. Also according to another post I read in the bugs forum, Hidden Thief + Mug now applies instant revealed, as where post patch it would still stealth you.
I doubt this person wanted an extra gear slot. Just a cosmetic change. IIRC, in Runescape there is a NPC that allows you to combine certain headgear, such as glasses and a fake beard. Maybe something similar could work here?
[Ren] #1 NA!! GJ SC, #1 EU and world
Is there a bingo card for the thief forums like the dungeon forums? This would win instantly.
My build is all power toughness vitality with a bit of precision. I have 29k health and 3.6 toughness, 1.8k shout heal. So today I did my usual trot along to get to the commander in wvw.
A thief cloaks onto me and killed me in exactly 6 seconds, now before I enquire about how it can cut a heavy tank to ribbons so quickly, he took a full volley of 100 blades at 70% critical chance and lost about 20% health.
Right from the start we can see something is horribly wrong with your numbers. There is no way, that if you build full PVT with a “bit” of precision, you will hit 70% crit chance. Even with fury. Next, assuming he did eat a full hundred blades (which if we assume this was a skilled thief, he would not) there is no way that he could only lose 20% health. Likely scenarios? You were standing in black powder, and missing most of your hits. More likely? He simply wasn’t getting hit by your 100b. Just dodged behind you and attacked from there.
Next up, you say that he killed you in exactly six seconds.. How do you know this so precisely? Either you have a video of the fight (which I’d like to see) or you must have stood there calmly counting the seconds of the fight while he was killing you.. Which might explain why he killed you so quickly, if you just stood there.
Throughout your post, you specifically say a few times that you are using the legendary greatsword Sunrise, as if it is supposed to be more powerful than other greatswords. Legendary weapons are just as powerful as other ascended weapons, so that part makes no difference.
Despite this it still shows that in one million scenarios I would not be able to kill him once
The reason you would never beat him is simply because he is that much better than you. The thief isn’t some super duper OP faceroll win class, you’re simply flustered because you got killed a few times by someone who is better than you, and, much akin to a flustered child who exaggerates everything, you also are exaggerating everything about that fight.
TL;DR?
L2P
I make my lfgs say “elitist jerks only.” Works like a charm.
Why would you even join a group that thinks only having eles wars and guards is anywhere near ideal?
I’m sure RNJesus just isn’t being nice today.
Most likely it’s not that SE is broken, it’s just something is messed up with the instance ownership system. Usually you can fix it by closing GW2 and reopening it.
It’s not going to be corrected, because the current behavior is intended. Player stats (boon duration) are not linked to pet stats.
I wouldn’t say that’s a bug… to me it looks more like the hair is flowing up because it’s (filter) hitting the air as you fall back down. I don’t really know how to explain it, if you have longish hair in real life just try standing up and jumping up and down a bit, it’s what actually happens.
If I recall correctly they reduced the evade time on the skill. Not sure if it has changed otherwise.
Going to bump this once to see if anybody else is interested.
Also just make sure you don’t play Necro. Necro’s are generally bad at dungeon (forums.)
Is first strikes for 6 or more initiative or over 6?
I have never played that game, but I think several games have a mode like this.
I think the OP intended this as more of a contest/challenge than an actual game mode.
This. The honor rule coming into effect is cool and I want this to stay between a set number of people who all start at the same and watching the numbers dwindle. And I’m sure some would write down intense/funny/sad moments on the forums for others to read.
Back when my friends and I used to play Minecraft, one of our favorite things to do was to frequently create new worlds and thus, new buildings. However, after a while, this became less and less fun, until my obsession with playing every game on the hardest difficulty kicked in; after a long time of pestering them, my friends reluctantly came with me to play on the Hardcore difficulty. For those of you who don’t know, on Hardcore mode in Minecraft, a few new effects kick in:
- You can die from starvation
- Enemies are stronger than ever before
- Once you die, you cannot respawn and must delete your world.
We tried this a few times, and, not being the best Minecraft players, I don’t think we ever were able to defeat the Enderdragon. (Darn you lava!) Nevertheless, we had fun, and even after one of us died it was exciting to cheer on the rest of our teammates in their attempts to avenge us.
Years later, here I am closing in upon my seventh character creation. Since I choose to only play humans (I have tried out the other races and can’t enjoy the animations/armors) leveling has become quite tedious as I have played through the human areas several times, and almost have the personal story dialogue memorized. In search of a way to spice things up this time around, I recalled those days and nights I spent with my friends in Minecraft and various other games, and thought I could bring the tradition over to Guild Wars 2. Taking inspiration from Minecraft and several other games, here are some of the rules I came up with:
- Death is permanent. If you die, you must delete that character. Going down and rallying is okay.
- No use of experience scrolls
- Adding to no use of experience scrolls, no use of the account or guild vaults to gain items through your other characters. In addition, acceptance of items from other people throughout the run is not allowed.
- To sum up the above rule, just don’t accept any help from your other characters/friends.
- No waypointing is allowed. Use of Asura gates is okay.
- No use of the trading post is allowed.
- Since most of the usable armor will come from monster drops/renown hearts, in the case of renown hearts, go by general honor rule not to use more karma than you’ve earned on that character. Emptying out karma before beginning this is not expected.
- Crafting is allowed, but since vault use is not, materials will need to be held in the inventory, and not come from materials you have gathered on your other characters.
- and possibly many more! I’m just listing out what comes to mind at the moment.
Whew. That’s quite the list of rules.. challenging ones at that. Challenging enough to know that I will most likely never complete a run of this by myself. And now, we finally get to the point of this post! Since the fun of those Minecraft days came from playing with friends, I am posting this to know if anyone is crazy enough to attempt this with me. Here are just some thoughts that come into play when thinking about the group dynamics of a run like this.
- Obviously, if someone spends a lot of time on a character and then dies on it, I don’t really expect him to delete it. Of course, I will, but not doing so is understandable, and I don’t think it’ll be looked down upon.
- On that note, if somebody does die, they are no longer allowed to aid the people who are still alive.
- Mailing and crafting could come really in handy. Maybe we could have people specialize in different disciplines, and mail each other the materials required to make each other armor.
- Reviving will save a LOT of people.
- Having people be different races will separate players in the beginning, but as the story progresses, everyone will come together in the end.
- If you want to stay alive, it would be best to play with a few other people who are also doing this challenge. We might want to organize times where everyone logs on, parties up, and works together to progress through the story and level up our characters.
- This would be cool to meet new players, new friends, and possibly people will even form a guild together.
- And much more! The party dynamic to a run like this will change more things than I can list.
So, at this point, I’m pretty much rambling. This threads purpose isn’t to advertise this as something that will happen, but just to see if other people are as crazy as me and want to join me on this ridiculous challenge. If you’ve read this much, thanks! And now, for the TL;DR
Who wants to level a new character and complete the personal story under a set of rules that pretty much spell out certain failure?
I can help you out. Please state exact build and gear, so I can point out where you went wrong. Also, are we talking PvE. PvP, or WvW?
Seems like somebody swapped a legendary weapon over to their necro.
It’s been bugged since launch.. Your best bet is to hop around to a lot of different servers around a new update, hope it works on one, then stock up your alts.
Wait, people actually kill those? But.. there’s a boss right there to be killed instead.
I hope they don’t fix this =/
